Dear Readers Welcome to the August issue of In and Around Iver Firstly, I’d like to say thank you to our readers for the lovely feedback over recent months. It’s always good to hear when we’ve got it right (and even when we haven’t), as this really helps us to keep publishing a magazine that you read, use and enjoy. It’s been over eleven years since we first started publishing and whilst some things haven’t changed very much at all, others have changed beyond recognition. Looking back at previous issues, my ramblings were about my daughter Sammy and the challenges of sharing a workspace with a small child, a pink pop up tent and endless viewings of Dora the Explorer and Hannah Montana. My two dogs, Freddie and Pickle featured quite a lot too, with their puppy like escapades and antics. Years later, my world still revolves around the very same child and pets, except during that time we’ve moved to four different homes, the dogs are now of pensionable age (both currently snoring behind me as I work) and this Saturday will be the party celebration for Sammy’s 18th Birthday. A garden party and rain is forecast - I’m off to find that pop up pink tent! Until next month! Angela & Sammy

FLEA BE GONE Fleas can be an almost certain nightmare to pet owners. They are easily picked up by cats and dogs and can affect your pet and infest your home. If left untreated this can lead to a flea infestation. For this reason, it is essential that as well as using a treatment on your pet that you also treat the environment. Fleas can survive without a host for many months. Visit your vet for advice on the best products. Clean bedding regularly and vacuum furniture, floors and skirting boards to help destroy fleas at each stage of their lifecycle. Throw away the dustbag from your vacuum after each cleaning.

LOP EARED RABBITS For Kiwi and Berry "Big" is no exaggeration as a description for this pair of giant lop eared rabbits that have come into the homing centre. This pair are looking for a home together as Berry (tan) is actually blind and relies on her sister for help, though she is blind she does gets around extremely well. All rabbits require a spacious hutch and a generous sized run with plenty of room to play, stretch and exercise as well as a healthy and nutritious diet to help them thrive. Not forgetting of course, the all-important love and attention of their human family.

Only give your pet flea treatment that has been recommended for them. Products suitable for one If you have the perfect bunny home to offer our species may not be suitable for another lovely bunnies please get in touch. Still in doubt? Groom your pet with a fine-tooth comb held over a white surface - any fleas or drop- Thank you for your support . We can’t do it withpings will be deposited on the surface. Add a few out you! drops of water and if the droppings turn reddish If you think you can offer one of our animals a brown it's very likely your pet has fleas. loving home then please ring RSPCA Hillingdon A PAIR OF PRECIOUS ANGELS Branch on 01895 833417 or visit our website www.rspcahillingdonclinic.org.uk to download Angel (female) and Precious (male) are a pair of an application form beautiful black cats who at only a year and half old have come into our centre through no fault of their We are always grateful own. Black cats are often overlooked in rescue and for any donations of old we are really hoping that with Angel and Precious, sheets and blankets to their affectionate personalities shine through and use for bedding for the they are not waiting for their forever home for too animals & food and toys long! Precious is a little timid around new people so for the animals to play this lovely pair would prefer a quiet home without with. These can be any dogs. They may be able to live with another brought into our Clinic at cat. Are you able to offer these lovely felines their 16 Crescent Parade, puuurfect home? Hillingdon UB10 0LG. 14

Heathrow We have been advised that the North West Runway proposal would lead to Richings Park and Langley being considerably overflown as planes taking off west bound would be forced to make a sharp right turn in order to maintain aircraft separation from planes using the other runways. Currently Richings Park lies outside of the noise envelope defined for compensation in terms of double glazing etc. Should the proposal finally obtain Government approval we shall be fighting on everyone’s behalf to be included for compensation.

Residents Parking Scheme As reported earlier, a sum of money had been allocated by the Bucks Local Area Forum to fund a feasibility study into a residents parking scheme. As a consequence of the planning application for a station car park this has been put on hold until a decision is made on this application.

Defibrillator The first couple of grants have now come through but we need to raise funds ourselves to match. A lottery licence has been granted to the Association and this should be up and running in the next couple of months. Look out for ticket sales!

The Ivers Good Neighbour Scheme We are now seeing an increase in demand and thus could do with a few more volunteers and to as well as spreading the word amongst those who would benefit from it. Hospital Appointments have been added to GP Surgery runs.

The river running through this patch has turned “sour” and fish life become non-existent. The Rivers Authority made an inspection recently and found that a local resident had diverted the flow upstream into an ornamental fish pond in their garden and had placed a fish gate to prevent fish passing though downstream. We are now waiting
