Dear Readers Welcome to the November issue of In and Around Iver And I’m proud to announce that on 11th October, rather later than expected, I finally became a proud Nanny to my beautiful baby granddaughter, Summer-Hope. I have to say, I’m completely smitten with her and she often comes to keep me company in my office, laying in her little crib gurgling away. Who knew that one small person could regularly bring a smile to your face simply by doing nothing. Sammy has already become a fantastic Mum and whilst she’s suffering somewhat from the constant night time feeds (this is someone who previously enjoyed a good ten hour sleep), I can’t help but feel proud of my own baby for instantly becoming an unselfish and responsible adult. I’m always amazed that what we often perceive as being the impossible, or fretting as to how it will all work out, suddenly is possible and works out perfectly well in the end. My only real challenge having spent many days and nights at the hospital was somehow trying to fit work in and get this month’s mags to print. A whole month’s work in five days. It turned out that was possible too. Until next month... Angela & Sammy

Passion came into the centre heavily pregnant and suffering with cat flu. Following the difficult birth of 3 kittens, she required a caesarian section to remove a stillborn kitten stuck inside her. Golden Oldy Tito

Special little Tito at 15 years young, finds himself looking for a retirement home as his owner couldn't look after him anymore. Tito has a heart murmur so he may require medication for that at some point and he is also a little hard of hearing. He is however such a happy chap with loads of love to give. Tito loves his walks, and is good with other dogs and cats. Could you offer our golden oldie the retirement home he deserves?

We are always grateful for any donations of old sheets and blankets to use for bedding for the animals & food and toys for the animals to play with. These can be brought into our Clinic at 16 Crescent Parade, Hillingdon UB10 0LG.

If you missed it over 100 residents had a fantastic evening, yet again galvanizing the community for the betterment for all. This has all happened with great support from the Richings Park Residents Association and Iver Parish Council. A fantastic example of working together has been the reinstatement of the Richings Park Family Fireworks which has been sadly missed for the last few years on the 5th November. However, the biggest initiative that has brought the community together has been by taking care of the environment and organising a community litter pick. Hopefully you have heard of the appropriately named #RichingsSparkle, coined by a local resident Jane Cherrington as it brought the shine back to the village. Not only has #RichingsSparkle helped cleaned up the village, removing litter, weeds and leaves it has helped to get residents to know their neighbours better and have fun. The children have actively wanted to get involved. They have seen why being a ‘litter bug’ is so terrible and most of them have presented at school the great work they have done on a weekend! 42

What Is Neighbourhood Watch? Neighbourhood Watch is one of the biggest and most successful crime prevention initiatives ever. Neighbourhood Watch (or Home Watch as it is known in some areas) is all about an active partnership with the police. Neighbourhood Watch schemes can: • Cut crime and the opportunities for crime • Help and reassure those who live in the area • Encourage neighbourliness and closer communities. How Does It Work? Neighbourhood Watch schemes can be large, covering whole estates, or they might involve just a few houses. It depends on the area and what people living there want. A scheme is generally led by a volunteer coordinator whose job is to get people working together and make sure things get done. Schemes keep in close touch with local police to share information and advice. What can Neighbourhood Watch schemes do? They can target local crime problems and take action to prevent them. Schemes should find out from local people what most concerns them and focus on a specific problem. These are the key steps to targeting and reducing crime and the fear of crime in an area. In consultation with your local police: • Get a picture of local crime • Conduct a "fear of crime" survey • Target certain crimes • Identify the opportunities for crime • Form an action plan to tackle the problems • Block or reduce opportunities for the criminals An active Partnership with the Police Watch schemes are not police-run groups. But to be truly effective against crime, they need to plan action in co-operation with the police (or other agency such as the local authority). It is essential to establish a close working relationship with your local police, and to share with them all information relating to crime and other incidents in your area. How much should I do? It's entirely up to you. Some people have more free time than others, and may want to take a very active role as a coordinator of a local Watch scheme. You may know something about marketing or communications, and volunteer to write and distribute newsletters, or publicise your local scheme's activities. You may be in business locally and know of avenues to seek sponsorship for Watch activities. Or your part may be as simple as keeping a look out while your neighbour is on holiday, making sure there are no tell-tale signs such as milk left on a doorstep that would attract a burglar. Everyone can do something that will really make a difference. How can I set up a Scheme? If you want to start a Neighbourhood Watch scheme, join one already operating in your road, or find out more about how Neighbourhood Watch works, please contact the Community Safety team, 01494 586535, communitysafety@southbucks.gov.uk Your Area NHW Coordinator is Jane Brown 01753 653883 / 0771 223 6159 swallowdalenhw@aol.com please contact me if you have any questions or concerns , or if you would like help in setting up a scheme Your Neighbourhood Policing Team Are Sgt Davison, PC Thompson , PCSO Fisher, PCSO Lewis , PCSO Benawra and can be contacted on IverStokePogesWexhamNHPT@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk 52
