Dear Readers Welcome to the
Inside this month’s issue
July issue of In and Around Iver This is the month parents wait for with bated breath. Good old School Summer holidays! My Facebook feed will no doubt be full of Mums celebrating not having to get up early in the morning to do the school run and excitedly exchanging ideas as to where to take the kids to keep them amused. By mid August this is usually followed by cries of frustration, exhausted tempers and equally exhausted wallets. I remember it all as if it were yesterday. Meanwhile, Sammy is being run ragged every day by little Summer-Hope and counting down the months until she can get a little nursery school down time. Personally I just can’t wait until she stops using my furniture as a climbing frame, the dog’s water bowl as a form of splashy fun and the kitchen bin as some sort of lucky dip! I applaud any parent who can maintain a tidy home with a tiny terror on the loose. I’m just a grandparent and yet, the struggle is real! A one hour visit from this bundle of joy creates at least two hours of restoration work afterwards. Oh the joy of smeared tv screens and patio doors, toy strewn floors and rearranged ornaments. But of course, nothing compares to that cheeky little face and wonderful Nanny kisses. I wouldn’t change it for the world! Until next month .Angela & Sammy

Come and join us at Iver Heath Recreation Ground on 28th July from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m for the free Sunday Funday event! The Sunday Funday event is not a fair or a fete – there will be no raffles, tombolas and no stalls. Instead we have organisations that run groups for young people and families coming along to give you a chance to join them in some fun games and activities. There will be something for those who enjoy crafts, sports and playing games ALL FREE! There will be food to purchase from the Scouts who will be running their BBQ and cream teas and soft drinks from the Bowls club. If you want to bring your own food and soft drinks there will be a picnic area set aside. ALREADY CONFIRMED - the free activities are a circus skills activity, facepainting, designing and painting giant butterflies for selfie boards with others on display (including one for dogs!), a family games area including welly wanging, giant noughts and crosses, spacehopper races, tomahawk throwing, a football penalty challenge, and much much more. The tennis and bowls club will both be open and visitors are welcome to try the sports. Just one thing to note – due to the nature of this event public parking will be limited to blue badge holders. Dogs are welcome but we ask for them to kept on a lead while the event is underway. Are you a sports club or group for young people in Iver Heath and not yet involved? It’s not too late – call us on 01753 655331 during office hours to find out more details.

THREE CHEERS (and three trophies) FOR THE RICHINGS PLAYERS! The Richings Players are delighted to have once again, been recognised by NODA London, as one of the finest amateur theatre companies in the area winning a Flame Award for the second time in three years, previously awarded for our 90th Anniversary production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. The coveted award recognises inspirational contribution for the pursuit of excellence in theatre. The citation from our NODA Rep, Judith Watsham makes it clear that this award is for “excellence in all three of The Richings Players’ productions last season; “a traditional yet very original pantomime, Panto in the Stone-Age, a compelling drama, Blue Stockings and a magical production of The Wind in the Willows.” Judith goes on to say that “all three productions were performed to a very high standard, all with totally different staging which showed the group’s versatility and ability to offer audiences a wide variety of entertainment performed to almost professional levels both from a performance perspective and a technical one.” Last June’s The Wind in the Willows directed by Will Torrent won the “Shinfield Players Scenic Award” which was up against twelve other fantastic examples of scenic design. Special praise must go to Malcolm Roberts and Richard Evans who caught Will’s vision for the play, helping to transform Iver Village Hall into the sights of the riverbank, Badger, Ratty and Moley’s houses, the Wild Wood and of the course, Toad Hall. Will said after receiving the award; “I’m absolutely delighted! This play was very special and Malcolm and Richard, with the help of many others caught the vision I had for it and helped bring it to life! This award is a real testament to the huge amount of hard work, effort and time, we as a society put in to making our sets as professional as we can – well done team!”
programme which was designed by designed by her older brother Will, follows on from last year’s successful win for the Plaza Suite programme where it was awarded the “June King Memorial Trophy for Programme Design” At the end of June, many of the original cast will perform the play again at the 150th Anniversary of Girton College in Cambridge. Rooted in real events in and around Girton College, this will be the first time the play has been performed there, amid the Victorian buildings where the story unfolded. Chairman Evelyn Stafford-Allen, Vice-Chairman Will Torrent and members Howard and Joan Gibbs attended the awards in London to receive the awards and trophies. After the ceremony, Evelyn said; "I’m once again thrilled for all our Richings family – everyone connected with the society works so hard to bring quality entertainment to our audiences and so to be recognised as doing this with real excellence, really is the cherry on the top of an already sweet cake!” On hearing the news, Heather Harper MBE, President of Richings Players said; “Fantastic news! I’m so proud of our wonderful theatre society. Thank you NODA for this recognition once again!” We sadly lost one of our longest serving members Jeanette Watkins earlier this year and she was remembered along with others who have passed away in the last year in a touching moment of silence during the ceremony. Our most recent production “Don’t Get Your Vicars in a Twist” was dedicated to her memory.
These awards follow on from last year’s successes which also saw our world-premiere performances of (the recently published) Panto in the StoneAge written by David Bainbridge and Michael LuAnd if this wasn’t enough, last October’s Blue cas winning the “It’s Behind You Best Pantomime” Stockings directed by Sophie Torrent won the Award. “Whitebread Trophy for Programme Design”. The The National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA), founded in 1899, is the leading representative body for amateur theatre in the UK. The Association has a membership of approximately 2000 amateur theatre groups and approximately 800 individual members staging musicals, operas, plays, concerts and pantomimes in a wide variety of venues ranging from the country’s leading professional theatres to village halls. Covering a broad spectrum of age ranges NODA member societies meet the needs of all levels of both performers, whether dramatic, dance or musical, and those involved backstage, front of house or in society administration. 52

Residents Garden and Shopping Precinct
Road Wardens Wanted
Our first visit by the Heathrow Rangers took place on June 10th and featured the grass being cut in the Residents’ Garden, litter picking by the shops and tending to the plants in the tubs. It was a job well done and will continue at regular intervals for the next 2 years.
At the time of writing we are still seeking representatives to join the committee to act as liaison for North Park, Syke Cluan and Wellesley Avenue. Please contact the Chairman if you are interested in helping out in this regard.
If you would like to support the upkeep of the Residents Garden and the planter tubs by the shops, you can buy a lottery ticket from the South Bucks and Chilterns Lottery. This means that if you buy a lottery ticket from their website and nominate us as your chosen cause then we receive 50p per ticket which we are putting towards the cost of upkeep for the garden. Tickets can only be purchased on-line at www.chilternsouthbuckslottery.co.uk Station Car Park and Parking Restrictions A revised letter and questionnaire about parking is being put together for mailing to all households as it was felt that a fair amount of mis information had been disseminated that had led to confusion and rejection of some of the proposals. So, another attempt is being made. It should be emphasised that if we don’t get a controlled parking zone approved then the proposed station car park will not go ahead. Then, once Crossrail starts in earnest, you will not be able to move for commuter cars in our roads.
CCTV Project The equipment has been ordered and should all be installed by the time you read this. What we now need is a small team of volunteers to assist in the collection of footage whenever an incident is reported, and CCTV evidence is required. If you would be interested in helping, then please let us know by using the feedback form on the entry page of the Association website. Heathrow The consultation on the expansion of Heathrow commenced on June 17 and closes in September. There will be a drop-in exhibition at the Sports Club on August 22nd. At the time of writing this article we did not know what the details of their plans are. Subscriptions As well as accepting cash or cheques as before, our website also allows for on-line subscription payments. Our current financial year commenced on April 1st.
