Dear Readers Welcome to the June issue of

Inside this month’s Bumper issue

In and Around Iver And it’s officially Summer! Our bbq has seen plenty of action, the pots are planted and baby granddaughter already has her own small paddling pool in the garden. We also couldn’t resist buying her a little pink tent. The moment I saw it, it reminded me of the days Sammy used to sit in my office with me, camped out in her little tent watching Dora the Explorer. I feel truly blessed to be able to re-live those wonderful times all over again. I hadn’t realised how quickly time passes and how much I’d missed having a small child to entertain. We even had a family day out at Beale Park, where we spent hours walking around and looking at all the different animals. Simple, enjoyable things that disappear from your life when children are no longer around. Now don’t get me wrong, we still enjoy a stroll down the pub for a vino, especially at the end of a long day, we simply now have an additional drinking partner. Fortunately the price of a round has remained the same, since she brings her own bottle! Until next month... Angela & Sammy

Iver’s award-winning amateur theatre company The Richings Players are absolutely thrilled and delighted to announce that January’s world-premiere of “Panto in the StoneAge” has won the It’s Behind You Best Pantomime Award in this year’s NODA London Awards – oh yes, it has!

MORE AWARDS FOR THE RICHINGS PLAYERS The stone-age tale was penned by RP members David Bainbridge and Michael Lucas and joined by Ley Dobson and Phoebe Pearson Hall as Choreographers and Toby Stafford-Allen as Musical Director. It doesn’t just stop there either! Our stunning production of "Two", performed last May, written by Jim Cartwright and directed by Jess Howard has been nominated for an Innovation Award! And, last October's production of "Plaza Suite" written by Neil Simon and directed by our Vice-President Adrian Uzzell has been nominated for a Programme and Poster Award, designed by Will Torrent and Mandy Gasson! A group including Chairman Evelyn Stafford-Allen will attend the NODA Awards in London in June to receive the certificates and see if they have won anything further in the Reginal Awards. On hearing the news, Evelyn said; "I am absolutely delighted! The whole society work so hard and are extremely dedicated, as are our wonderful audiences! I could not be more proud of Richings Players right now – well done team!” These awards follow on from last year’s successes which saw 2016's 90th Anniversary production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" winning three awards including a Flame Award which recognises inspirational contribution for the pursuit of excellence in theatre.

2000 amateur theatre groups and approximately800 individual members staging musicals, operas, plays, concerts and pantomimes in a wide variety of venues ranging from the country’s leading professional theatres to village halls. Covering a broad spectrum of age ranges NODA member societies meet the needs of all levels of both performers, whether dramatic, dance or musical, and those involved backstage, front of house or in society administration. In June, the Players will present the much-loved classic tale of Mr Toad and his band of river bank friends in “The Wind in the Willows”. directed by Will Torrent. This delightful and ingenious adaption of Kenneth Grahame's classic tale of river-bank antics by Alan Bennett created a sensation at the National Theatre in the 1990s and follows the adventures of Mr Toad, Ratty, Mole and Badger. Along the way, Toad finds himself in prison and manages to escape, but not before Toad Hall, his pride and joy, has been overrun by the wicked Weasels. Thanks to the efforts of his kind and concerned friends, all ends happily, after an exciting battle to regain Toad's home...but will Toady learn his lesson?

Performing in Iver Village Hall from Wednesday 6th to Saturday 9th June, with Wednesday, Thursday and Friday performances at 7.45pm. The Saturday performance times are 12.30pm and 4.30pm. Tickets are priced at £12 and £10 (Concessions – senior citizens, disabled and children) and can be The National Operatic and Dramatic Association purchased by calling the Box Office on 01753 (NODA), founded in 1899, is the leading represen- 654550 or online at www.richingsplayers.co.uk. tative body for amateur theatre in the UK. Spring Newsletter The newsletter is now available at both Costcutter Stores and Saleys the Chemist.

Children’s Playground A delay in the manufacture of the equipment has pushed the start date for construction to June 4th after which it will take around 3 weeks to complete. We hope to have an official opening at the forthcoming Summer Fete on June 24th. The plan will be to hold some form of competition amongst the children in advance and the winner gets to cut the ribbon at the opening. Look out for advertising in the next few weeks.

Defibrillator A briefing meeting was held at the Sports Club on May 12th regarding the operation of the defibrillator. There we learned that a key element in saving someone’s life with this device was the performance of effective CPR. We also learnt that around 88% of cardiac arrests occur in the home and thus CPR is an essential skill for everyone. We are in preliminary discussions with the Parish Council as to how a rolling and on-going programme of CPR training could be conducted in Iver Heath, Iver Village and Richings Park. We will also be holding another Defibrillator Briefing at the Sports Club soon specifically for staff of the local shops who are the most likely to be in attendance to any incident around there.

Website We have now revamped our old website and brought it up to date technically and aesthetically. We are still moving over some 46

of the content from the old site so it will be missing stuff for a little while yet.

Neighbourhood Watch We are now partnering with our local NHW and a webpage has been added to our website for information about this. A public meeting is to be held on June 13th at the Sports Club to launch a project to network the privately owned CCTV cameras in our area to improve upon intelligence gathering following incidents of burglary and theft. This draws upon the experience of neighbouring Ickenham which has had a successful project running for a number of years.

Subscriptions As well as accepting cash or cheques as before, the new website also allows for online subscription payments. So, if you’ve not yet paid your subscription for this year and mislaid your donation envelope then take advantage of this facility.

Residents Garden A reminder that if you would like to support the upkeep of the Residents Garden and the planter tubs by the shops you can buy a lottery ticket from the South Bucks and Chilterns Lottery. This means that if you buy a lottery ticket from their website and nominate us as your chosen cause then we receive 50p per ticket which we are putting towards the cost of upkeep for the garden. Tickets can only be purchased on-line at www.chilternsouthbuckslottery.co.uk.

Community Club performs UK Premier of 'Cancelled' play This year the Iver Heath Drama Club celebrates its 70th birthday by performing two plays this summer at the Iver Heath Village Hall, one of which has never been performed by anyone in the UK before.

‘Cancelled’ play. He said “Our Summer show is a fantastic opportunity. Our audience see two brilliant ‘one-act’ shows in one night for one ticket. Meanwhile it gives our young talent the opportunity to grow, experiment and flourish who will then be ready to take my place when I’m too old for my Panto Dame high heels!” Both shows are being performed at the Iver Heath New Village Hall this July.

The adults of the club are performing ‘Cancelled’, a one-act comedy in which a 1940s radio soap opera is suddently cancelled. This upsets their new sponsor, who happens to run the local mafia, so he demands the show must go on. The play is written by American playright M. Robert Grunwald. Arthur

Giant rabbits looking for loving homes Please say hello to our very handsome gentle giant Arthur! He is about 1 year old and a Continental Giant, one of the largest and oldest rabbit breeds. His previous owner had to give him up along with several of his younger family members, due to having too many to look after. All are now in search of loving homes, ideally with experience of caring for giant breeds. Arthur is a sweet and friendly boy as you would expect from a breed generally known for their intelligence and lovely laid back temperaments. In the right home, he will make a delightful pet. Naturally, the giant rabbits do require much larger accommodation than the smaller breeds, and also lots of safe secure space for daily exercise, play and foraging. Potential adopters should be prepared for the commitment needed to ensure that all health and welfare needs are met and be able to spare the time to provide company, stimulation and of course lots of love. Please get in touch if you could offer Arthur, or any of our baby giants, the perfect home.

Denham Charity Shop opens 1st June

We’re very excited about the planned opening of our new charity shop at 2 Station Parade, Denham Green, UB9 5ET on 1st June 2018. Our charity shops are the backbone of our fundraising activities and this new venture is vital to help us continue funding our animal welfare work in the area. Some of you will be aware that a group of residents got together at the start of 2017 with a common purpose – to bring together the Richings Park community, in turn, making it more fun, better connected and a safer place to live. 4 residents initially quickly became 12, then 25, then 50 and now there are over 200 residents actively involved with the aptly named “Richings Park Village Action Group’. Rather than call the group a ‘community’, we opted for ‘Action’ because we wanted to get things done! Our next event in conjunction with the Richings Park Sports Club & Residents’ Association will be a Family Summer Fete: Sunday 24th June at Richings Park Sports Club 11.00 onwards 11.45 Grand opening of the NEW! Richings Park Village Playground Like everything we do, it is about pulling the community together. Most residents have attended social occasions like #RichingsPints, Bollywood Hollywood, Cycling, Fireworks and other such events. Again, the Family Summer Fete is for everyone. There will be Live music, Stalls, Fairground Rides, Sports events, Food & Drink, World Cup Football and much much more! Most of the outdoor events will be from 11am – 1pm, with the highlight being the opening of the new Playground which was delivered on the back of fundraising organised by the community for the community. A huge thank you to all the fund raisers, Richings Park Sports Club, Iver Parish Council, Richings Park Residents’ Association, HS2 GroundWorks, Heart of Bucks & Flowerland. This will be followed by the crucial World Cup Match between England and Panama at 13:00. As with the Family Fireworks in November, we need volunteers. If you can help, please email RPVAG@hotmail.com. As with everything that happens, these events only get delivered through residents actively being involved and helping. The Richings Park Village community goes from strength to strength. To find out more and get involved we are on twitter @richings_park, Facebook under “Richings Park Village Action Group’ and are all actively involved and supportive of the Richings Park Residents’ Association www.richingspark.com. Finally, we can be reached on RPVAG@hotmail.com The Richings Park Village Action Group Team 86
