Dear Readers Welcome to the November issue of In and Around Iver With the ghoulish goings on of Halloween behind us, we now move on to skies filled with flashes of light from the numerous local fireworks display, oceans of poppies for Remembrance and the start of early Xmas work do’s and parties. We tend to miss out here on that last one, as a works Xmas do for two doesn’t really have quite the same buzz about it, as does a group of colleagues joining up for the annual food and drink binge and hoping to god that the next day they aren’t recollecting the embarrassing moments of the night before. Oh how I miss those days! Or do I? Last month we celebrated little Summer-Hope’s first birthday, and whilst none of us suffered a hangover, the milk and ribena flowed freely and all of us were exhausted at the end of it. Now I’m off to join in the beginning of the Xmas shopping frenzy. I really should have appreciated these last few years of having a teenage daughter and being able to shop last minute. Back to scouring shops and trawling the internet before they sell out of the latest Maca Paca, Iggle Piggle or Teletubby. Someone save me! Until next month... Angela & Sammy

Looking for loving homes Salsa Sadly, black cats are often overlooked by potential adopters and this has so far been the case for beautiful one year old Salsa, who has been with us quite a while now. Salsa is struggling with life in the cattery and is looking for an adult-only home without other pets, where she will be shown the patience and understanding she will need to settle in to a new environment. Ideally her new family will have experience with nervous cats and be able to help Salsa rebuild her confidence and trust in humans. She so wants to love and be loved, but just needs a little time to adjust. If you could work some magic for lovely Salsa and make all her wishes come true, please get in touch.
Kipper Handsome tabby Kipper, is an eight year old who came into our care when his owners were no longer able to look after him. He is a really affectionate boy who enjoys attention and has so much to give. He is longing for a new loving family, a nice garden to roam and relax in and a comfy lap to come home to. Although pretty easy-going, he would prefer to be the only cat in the household. Do you have a Kipper-shaped space in your home and heart for this lovely lad?
Fireworks Frighten Animals As the darker evenings draw in and firework season approaches, please plan ahead for the safety and wellbeing of your pets. Fireworks are enjoyed by lots of people but many animals are frightened by them. It doesn’t have to be that way though, so if your pet is scared, there are lots of things you can do to help. Follow the RSPCA’s top tips to make fireworks celebrations less frightening for your pet and talk to your vet who will, if necessary, be able to refer you to a professional clinical animal behaviourist. 18
Dogs and cats: Make sure your dog or cat always has somewhere to hide if they want to and has access to this place at all times. For example, this may be under some furniture or in a cupboard. Make sure your cat or dog is always kept in a safe and secure environment and can’t escape if there’s a sudden noise. Have your pets microchipped in case they do escape – by law, your dog should already be microchipped. During fireworks seasons, walk dogs during daylight hours and keep cats and dogs indoors when fireworks are likely to be set off. At nightfall, close windows and curtains and put on music to mask and muffle the sound of fireworks. Never punish your pets when they are scared as this will only make things worse in the long run.
Pets that live outside: Partly cover cages, pens and aviaries with blankets so that one area is well sound-proofed. Make sure that your pets are still able to look out. Provide lots of extra bedding so your pets have something to burrow in. Consider bringing them indoors. This should be done gradually, so you will need to plan ahead. Further information is at www.rspca.org.uk/fireworks.

Dear Residents, The Ivers Parish Council are extremely pleased to advise residents that the mural, which had degraded so badly at the children’s playground at Iver Heath Recreation Ground, received an entirely new lease of life recently. The mural project was made possible by funding from the Heathrow Community Investment Programme. Working in partnership with environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, The Ivers Parish Council selected this project to improve the appearance and quality of the local environment. The Chairman of The Ivers Parish Council Wendy Matthews said ‘I am delighted that Positive Arts and the children of Iver Heath Junior School revived this once-tired space with fresh, positive and uplifting artwork our community can be proud of’. Led by the children’s design work, James and Tom, artists from Positive Arts, developed their ideas into a mural concept that was brought to life on the wall backing the children’s playGallery of Remembrance WW1 Centenary ground. The Ivers Parish Council would like to take this opportunity to appeal to our residents to offer information on the history of relatives who were involved in the Great War conflict 1914-1918. We would be honoured to display this material in the new Community Hub facility on the High Street as part of our WW1 Centenary remembrance programme. Please email comms@iverparishcouncil.gov.uk should you wish to contribute materials or mementos all of which will be returned after the event. Love The Place You Live! 42

Heathrow In order to achieve a greater resilience at the airport, Heathrow are proposing to implement what is known as an Independent Parallel Approach protocol. This will allow them to land on both runways simultaneously when a stack or queue is building up in the sky. They have been consulting with the neighbouring communities, including Richings Park and Iver, as there are some choices to be made which would affect noise distribution. The communities are of a single opinion that any increase in noise footprints must be shared fairly and should not impose totally upon existing affected areas. This conflicts with what Heathrow would prefer. We are also concerned that this could be used to increase the number of Air Traffic Movements which is currently set at 480,00 per year. We will continue to lobby Heathrow and the Department of Transport over this proposal.
Richings Park Village Action Group A highly successful dinner dance was staged last month at Richings Park Sports Club. Pictures of the event can be viewed at https:// arorsaphotography.pixieset.com/80snight/
A Family Christmas Party is
being organised for Sunday December 9th at the Sports Club. Look out on the website and on posters around the shops for further details.
Planning Application We were pleased to note that the South Bucks District Council Planning Committee refused an application from a property in Wellesley Avenue to extend the frontage of their property over the grassed area in front. The refusal was given on the grounds of an alteration to the street scene in Wellesley Avenue which was a design based on early garden villages. If it had been permitted, it would have set a precedent for other properties to do the same and another erosion would thus have 46
been made to the architectural appearance of our community.
Broadband BT/Open Reach have now completed the activation of all the cabinets in Richings Park and thus everyone may now upgrade to a fibre to the cabinet connection via their internet service provider.
Dominic Grieve Around 20 residents attended the public meeting with our MP in St Leonard’s Hall last month and were able to hear his views on several major infrastructure projects and question him about them. We hope to make this a regular quarterly event so watch out for notifications on the website and on posters by the shops for dates, venues and times.
Subscriptions As well as accepting cash or cheques as before, our website also allows for on-line subscription payments. So, if you’ve not yet paid your subscription for this year and mislaid your donation envelope then take advantage of this facility.
Residents Garden A reminder that if you would like to support the upkeep of the Residents Garden and the planter tubs by the shops you can buy a lottery ticket from the South Bucks and Chilterns Lottery. This means that if you buy a lottery ticket from their website and nominate us as your chosen cause then we receive 50p per ticket which we are putting towards the cost of upkeep for the garden. Tickets can only be purchased on-line at www.chilternsouthbuckslottery.co.uk
