Dear Readers Welcome to the
Inside this month’s issue
November issue of In and Around Iver And more wet, cold, miserable weather. I’ve never been a fan of the autumn or winter months. Much as I can appreciate the changing of landscapes and the romantic notion of cosy nights with candles and throws, to me it doesn’t compensate for the shorter days, frizzy hair and not being able to plan anything recreational, beyond a trip down the pub or somewhere that involves being indoors. Sadly, even our planned day to Peppa Pig World had to be put on hold. As much as Summer-Hope would have loved it, none of us were keen enough to spend an entire day walking around in the rain. Instead, much of her birthday was spent touring the aisles of a huge toy store. Enjoyable for the first hour or so, after which I could feel myself slumping, whilst darling grandchild whizzed up and down on a dozen different electric cars, pedal cars and even remote controlled cars. Suitable car finally chosen (a Porsche Macan which is now sat bang in the middle of my lounge), we continued through the Peppa Pig paraphernalia, too many other toys and games to mention, until payment and final escape was reached. I can honestly say, I’ve never been quite so glad to see a glass of wine after a shopping trip. It’s going to take some serious psyching up to get me back there again before Christmas! Until next month .Angela & Sammy

Streetlight Upgrade Phase 2 The Ivers Parish Council is responsible for more than 560 lighting columns in residential roads, footpaths and recreation grounds across the parish. Two years ago, we embarked on a programme of upgrades involving the replacement of the lanterns with modern LED units. These provide improved levels of illumination with lower power consumption and reduced maintenance costs. To date, 142 lanterns have been replaced and we have installed three new lights at Iver Recreation Ground. Over the next few weeks, we shall be upgrading a further 111 units at the following locations: Street lighting: Pinewood Green, Hardings Row, Grange Way, Leacroft Road, Bathhurst Walk, The Poynings, Hollow Hill Lane, Hollybush Lane, Lossie Drive, Parkway, Alder Road. In addition, lights on the following footpaths will be upgraded: Church Path, Heathway - Slough Road, St Margaret’s Close - St Margaret’s Church Road/Bangors Road North/Anslow Gardens to Iver Heath Recreation Ground.

Interim Clerk Appointment At an extraordinary meeting of the Ivers Parish Council held on Monday 14th of October, the Council unanimously appointed Mike Kennedy as their professional consultant and new Interim Clerk following the departure of Dawn Fleming last month. Mr Kennedy, who until last year lived in Barnes Way, Iver, brings to the Council over 40 years’ service in local government. Mike’s most recent appointment was Locum Clerk to Batchworth Community Council, in Rickmansworth. Before that he served for over seven years as Town Clerk at Henley-on-Thames until he retired in 2016. Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Kennedy pledged to work hard for the residents and improve community engagement. He will support Councillors in the recruitment of a new parish clerk and expects to be in post for around 6 months. Mr. Kennedy (64) said, “ When the Chairman, Wendy Matthews, phoned me at the beginning of this month to ask whether I was available I jumped at the opportunity to come home and serve the communities of Iver, Iver Heath and Richings Park.” Mr. Kennedy lived in Iver for over 12 years. “I was privileged to call Iver my home. In that time we made many friends through St. Peter’s and St. Leonard’s Churches, Iver Singers and the Ivers Good Neighbours Scheme, ” he said. Mr Kennedy is married to Glenda (nee Collins) who was Iver’s Parish Clerk from 1998-2010. They moved to woodley, near Reading, in 2018 to be near to their grandchildren. 16

New Cycleway and Footpath Opens in Iver Heath
Staff at Pinewood Studios turned out to officially open the new shared cycleway and footpath on Pinewood Road, which runs from the main Studios entrance down to 5 Points Roundabout. This new shared path will improve connections with the Studio and provide a better route for local residents.
The shared cycleway is a further action that Pinewood Studios has taken to successfully remove 100,000 car journeys off the road each year. The provision already in place includes free shuttle buses from local stations to the studios, which is also available for local residents to use with a free pass; supporting people travelling to work by bike with monthly biker breakfasts and biannual bike services, the introduction of electric car charging points on site, and maintenance and ground staff using electric vehicles and bikes. Alastair Jack, Sustainability Manager at Pinewood Studios, said: “This new shared path will make it easier and safer for cyclists and walkers to travel along Pinewood Road and we’re delighted that it’s now open for use.”
Trinity and Slough Homeless Our Concern (SHOC) marked World Homeless Day and World Mental Health Day by having a special screening of I,Daniel Blake at Pinewood Studios Cinema. Trinity is the largest provider of supported accommodation in the London Borough of Hillingdon, housing 300 single people and 40 families with children every year. SHOC is a day centre based in Slough providing 2 meals a day , shower and laundry facilities to around 45 people sleeping rough on the streets. The event raised £1,000 and guests were asked to bring non-perishable food to donate to Slough FoodBank. Sue Serret, Head of Partnerships, for both charities said “We chose this movie to raise awareness of the reasons why people become homeless and how easily this can happen to anyone. It is really important to us that we give people an opportunity to engage with this issue and challenge their perceptions about homelessness. It was such a pleasure to partner with Pinewood Studios who were very supportive throughout the whole evening. Working with corporate organisations has to be about more than just money, it’s finding opportunities that add a meaningful connection to both parties. We raised £1,000 which buys: 70 days accommodation or 400 meals. Thank you to everyone who attended.” wearetrinity.org.uk sloughhomeless.org.uk 20

Residents Garden and Shopping Precinct Sally Munn The Heathrow Rangers are continuing with their work around the shops and the residents garden. You can usually spot them on a Monday with a distinctive branded white van. If you would like to support the upkeep of the Residents Garden and the planter tubs by the shops, you can buy a lottery ticket from the South Bucks and Chilterns Lottery. This means that if you buy a lottery ticket from their website and nominate us as your chosen cause then we receive 50p per ticket which we are putting towards the cost of upkeep for the garden. Tickets can only be purchased on-line at www.chilternsouthbuckslottery.co.uk
Station Car Park and Parking Restrictions The car park on Thorney Lane South is scheduled to be delivered by around February, 2020, but the parking scheme across Richings Park will be implemented earlier to coincide with the introduction of the TfL services in December. Work on the station is progressing well and hopefully will be operational by year end. The full Crossrail train service from Reading to Shenfield is now scheduled for 2021.
Road Wardens The Road Warden for Bathurst Close, Naz Akbar, has now moved away from the area. A big thanks to Naz for her work in not only supporting the residents of her road but also the wider community.
Heathrow At the time of writing this piece we have just learnt that Heathrow have appointed a Community Liaison

Manager with particular responsibility for Richings Park. A report of our first meeting with them will appear in next month’s issue of In & Around. Obviously, our primary concern is with the proposed construction works outlined in the Heathrow Preferred Master Plan. We will continue to represent our area at the various Heathrow forums and press for compensation and mitigation for residents. Please continue to report any planes that you see flying overhead so that Heathrow know that there are people who are concerned living here. www.heathrow.com/noise/what-you-can-do/ make-a-complaint-about-noise Stanwell Moor: it was now documented in Heathrow’s meeting minutes that there would be a special arrangement for Stanwell Moor, clearly an extension to the compensation zone. The minutes were on the Local Focus Forum website so the arrangement was now in the public domain. We have gone back to Dominic Grieve on this, asking him to push for Richings Park to be included in the compensation zone.
Christmas Party This is being arranged for December 15 at the Sports Club. More information will be published on the website, posters, and In & Around next month.
Subscriptions As well as accepting cash or cheques as before, our website also allows for on-line subscription payments. Our current financial year commenced on April 1st, 2019.
