Dear Readers Welcome to the October issue of In and Around Iver Well, this month has been one of working away, whilst sitting on thorns awaiting the arrival of my new granddaughter. As nominated birth partner, I’m typing with one hand and preparing to grab the hospital bag with the other. I can’t really sum up my emotions at the moment excited? nervous? Wondering how I’ll cope with sleepless nights again at my age? Yes, all of those and more. At the same time, I find myself sneaking into the newly decorated nursery, peaking through the wardrobe of tiny pink outfits and remembering back to the time when I first started the magazines, with Sammy being just a small child playing in the room by my desk. At the time of writing this, there are only three days to go, although it’s never an exact science, so who knows when this small person will make her appearance. For all parents and grandparents out there, half term week is this month and Iver Flowerland have a great line up of activities to keep them occupied. (See page 63). Also treat yourself to a visit to their Oktoberfest on Saturday 14th (page 10). last year’s event was fantastic! Happy Halloween!

Charlotte Our charity shops and donations are our lifeline to animal welfare, without the income from our shops and donations we would not be able to help the 10k+ animals that come through the Hillingdon clinic each year. Local animals rely on these so any help anyone could offer would be appreciated.

Tara supervised outside to ensure she doesn't get to any difficulty getting in and out of gardens and over fences etc. Charlotte would love a home as an only pet so she can get all the love and attention. Can you offer Charlotte the home she needs?

News from your local Neighbourhood Policing Team Your Neighbourhood Team at Iver are: Sgt Anna Davison, PC Phil Thomson, PCSO Rav Lewis, PCSO Kam Benawra, CSO Roy Fisher

Burglary A 27 year old male has been arrested and charged with three dwelling burglaries in Wexham and Slough. He is currently on remand at Woodhill prison pending the court hearing.

Burglary Prevention It is great to catch the burglars – like the one mentioned above – but ultimately we would far rather the burglaries didn’t happen in the first place. As well as the NH officers we have a burglary team who focus on identifying and disrupting offenders as well as an investigation team who deal with all reports of burglary. We have analysts who review the crime trends to predict where the next crimes are likely to be. Our research shows that the winter months have historically been a period where the Iver area has been targeted, with burglaries often happening in the afternoon and early evening. As a result there will be a number activities carried out by your local PCSOs along with the Council Community Safety team over the following months. For example certain roads have been identified as what we call ‘hot spots’ and the NH team will completing foot patrols and door knocks at those locations. We will be attending local events and taking opportunities to talk to residents about home security. Of course you can help us too – make sure your house looks occupied even when you are out. Call us on 101 to report suspicious activity so we can check it out. You never know you might prevent a burglary from happening. Of course call 999 if you think you are witnessing a crime being committed. And if you know something but don’t want to talk to the police you can contact Crimestoppers via crimestoppers-uk.org or on 0800 555 111.

The Safe Place scheme gives vulnerable people a short term 'Safe Place' to go if they are feeling confused, scared or upset when out and about in their local town. Shops, businesses and public buildings who are a Safe Place will display the Safe Place sticker in their window. If a vulnerable person seeks help, members of staff would be expected to make a phone call if necessary (emergency contact details will be carried on their Safe Place member card), provide a temporary safe haven for them and also to reassure them and keep them safe until help and support arrives.

How do I get a Safe Place Member Card? Please call the Community Safety Team - 01494 586535 or email communitysafety@chiltern.gov.uk and we will send a card out to you. Please note it is not essential for you to have a card to be able to access this service but it will help if you have an emergency contact number for the staff to help you out.

I would like my business to be a part of the scheme but what will I need to do? Businesses that wish to register their interest in the scheme can contact the Community Safety Team. Businesses should have two or more employees on the premises at any given time in order to handle situations presented to them while still being about to maintain business as usual. Once signed up, businesses will receive a list of contact details so that the employees know who they can contact if a vulnerable individual presents themselves. 36
