Dear Readers Welcome to the April issue of In and Around Iver It’s officially Spring Time, the clocks have gone forward, the nights are feeling a lot shorter and no one could be happier about that than me. At last there are still a few hours left at the end of the working day, to come out of office hibernation and be able to see the great outdoors. Winter always feels long to me and although it’s a great time to catch up on numerous tv series and veg out on the sofa, enough is enough. Even my six month old granddaughter has developed a huge fascination for a kids’ programme called Bing! So much so that her little arms and legs are flapping away with excitement while it’s on. The downside to that is the disgruntled flapping and strange groaning noises that follow when it finishes. We’re then held to ransom ~ endure yet another Bing or see if she’s equally excited by Hollyoaks. Turns out she’s not and to be honest, neither am I. It’s time to get out, enjoy a few walks, introduce her to the joys of the park and being outside and if Sammy’s not watching, maybe making the odd mud pie or two. Until next month... Angela & Sammy

Heathrow Consultation
Thorney Country Park
We hope that the snowy weather did not deter too many people from attending the consultation session at the Sports Club on March 2nd. There we learned of Heathrow’s tentative plans to extract gravel from the field at the end of Old Slade Lane and then turn the resultant pit into a flood storage area. We also heard about ideas to use the Thorney Mill Lane industrial area for an aviation fuel depot and storage area. Feedback from this consultation round will be used internally by Heathrow to finalise plans to submit to the Department for Transport for approval. This will result in another round of consultations next year. So, if you missed your chance to comment this time round there will be another.
Despite our vigorous objections, Bucks County Council decided to proceed to the next stage in the plan to use Thorney Country Park to receive inert waste over the next 6 years in return for a £6 million payment to help balance their books. However, they have agreed to draw a “red line” inasmuch as that any project will have to use the railway completely and put no HGV traffic on Thorney Mill Lane. We doubt that this is achievable and thus the project could well be scuppered as a result.
Spring Newsletter Hopefully, our hard copy newsletter will be out during this month. This will be available from Costcutter Stores and the Chemist.
Children’s Playground You should see work starting this month on the installation of this facility which we hope will be up and running sometime during May.
A contractor has been appointed but they do have to jump over the hurdle of acquiring planning permission for their methodology in how they execute the project. The first steps in this task are for the contractor to consult with the local community about their plans. This will give us another opportunity to make our views known.
Annual General Meeting By the time that you are reading this article you should have received a notice through your door about the AGM which we normally hold in April each year at the Sports Club. The date had not been finalised at the time of writing this article. Please make an effort to attend and ask questions of the committee and representatives of the local authorities who also attend.
Subscriptions The notice of the AGM will be accompanied by an envelope requesting payment of the 20182019 subscription to the association. Please do so as we do have substantial outgoings in terms of printing and the on-going maintenance of the residents’ garden by the shopping precinct.

Magic & Rose
Millie
The RSPCA Hillingdon, Slough, Windsor, Kingston and District Branch Registered Charity No: 263515
How would your missing house cat get home? 3 year old cat came into our care in January, desA surprising number of the reports our Branch receives about missing cats, relate to house cats who according to their owners, aren’t microchipped because they never go out or only ever stay in the garden. Sadly unforeseen events can and do happen, and an open door or window can provide an exit for a cat that has had a fright, is just acting out of curiosity or if not neutered ventures off in search of love. Indoor cats are generally not streetwise and are particularly vulnerable in the big wide world. Microchipped cats are more likely to be reunited with their owners if found and to receive prompt veterinary care if injured or involved in a road traffic accident. We would recommend that all cats be microchipped, and indoor cats should be no exception. Microchipping typically costs £10-£20, and you can also look out for special microchip promotions which may be cheaper – it’s a small price to pay for added peace of mind and safety for your cat. Also remember that a microchip won’t help reunite you with your pet, unless you notify the microchip database whenever your contact details change. For advice or help with microchipping your cat, speak to your vet or call our RSPCA Hillingdon Clinic on 01895 231435.
perately in need of someone to love and the chance to start over. After having Millie spayed, microchipped and vaccinated, we set about looking for the perfect new home to fulfil her dreams of finding love and happiness again. A couple of weeks later, we were delighted when Millie left us to join her lovely new family. Her ‘Mum’ has recently been in touch to let us know how Millie is getting on. "What a little treasure she is! She's settled in so well, has chosen her favourite chair and has a lovely time playing with her catnip sock and long pheasant's tail feather - which seem to be more fun than the toys bought from the pet shop! Thank you for looking after her and for letting me adopt her."
We’re always so pleased to receive these lovely updates about the animals we have rehomed. There are however, always lots of others waiting for their chance of a fresh start in life. They come into our care for many different reasons – abandonment, owner death, illness, relocation or homelessness, financial pressures or just being plain unwanted!
