NEWLETTER #1 2019 THE NEWS LETTER Upcoming season I will keep you up to date by writing a newsletter every few months. To inform you about the pass and what is coming up.

TARIFA WINTERTRAINING Mid February I went to Tarifa, Spain to prepare for the new racing season. The first three weeks the Levanta was blowing non-stop. Sailing every day two session with the 5.6/6.4 in choppy conditions. Sometimes I swopt my slalom stuff for a wave set and went to Bolonia to enjoy the fantastic waves. Beside windsurfing I made sure to keep fit by going to the CrossFit. Unfortunately the new slalom boards came not in time to join the slalom training in Tenerife in March. So I stayed in Tarifa. Sportlink Tarifa organized slalom and foil training for everybody. A good way to practice starts and more racing situations. The weather and wind conditions were very good this year in Tarifa.

PWA FRANCE

EVENT 1

The first PWA slalom event of the year was hold in Marignane France. The CNM windsurf club organised the PWA event for the first time on this spot. The past 4 years Marignane had always delivered amazing slalom conditions during the AFF (France championship). Also this year the wind was good. Unfortunately during the PWA the wind was from the wrong direction. Just enough wind to finish one elimination. The first heat I lead from start to finish, the quarterfinal I had good speed and was in in qualifying position, until I miss gripped my boom during the second gybe. Going back home with a 17th place. The event was well organized and there was a good atmosphere on the beach, too bad we didn’t get the normal Mistral wind.

Back home I had time to finetune my new equipment a bit more. And on the light wind days I jumped om the foil gear together with teammate Ethan Westera.

FIRST PLACE AT DUTCH CHAMPIONS SHIP STAVOREN. On the Ijsselmeer at Stavoren we got 3 elimination done of the first stop of the Dutch championships slalom. We had super cold weather with 14 to 20kn Northwest wind. I raced all weekend with my 7.9 and 116, the speed with this combo was perfect, leading all the races from start to finish. Second and last stop of the Dutch champions ship September.

PWA JAPAN

EVENT 2

PWA Japan ended without any slalom action. Luckily I decided to bring my foil gear last minute. In the end we could do three foil eliminations. Every race I got a bit better, feeling more and more confident on the foil. Finished 41th in the ranking. I miss a lot of hours training on the foil as my main focus is still on slalom. Looking forward to train more foil to get a better upwind angel.

NEW SPONSORS I’m happy to get two new sponsor on board! SOORUZ SURFWEAR BENELUX is selling Sooruz wetsuits and accessories in the Benelux. I know the company very well as I worked there the past half year, thanks Eric Doorman for the support in 2019!

PWA KOREA The event in Korea started with a good wind forecast for the first 3 days. Too bad the rain killed the wind. So we had to wait for the weather to stabilise to get the thermal wind. At day 3 we finally had some wind to get the first heats started. On day 5 and 6 the thermic came more constantly and ze could do some more heats. In the end we completed three elimination, with 7.9 and 8.6 gear. I got 2 runners-up finals and one quarterfinalexit good for a 15th place in the end. I feeling that I need a bit more gear tuning and more start training to race more stable. Next PWA slalom event is in Fuerteventura. Looking forward to race with the small stuff again!

COMMING UP: At the moment I’m home and sailing on my local lake doing some fine tuning and training. I decided to not go to the Defi wind in the end as the forecast is not looking too good and I want to go for my main goal at the IFCA Wold championship in Sylt next week. Would have been quite a rush to do both events, so for me it looked smarter to focus on the IFCA.
