As I awoke this morning there was a chill in the air. Fall is on the verge of expressing itself with a colorful array of foliage as trees begin changing colors and shedding their leaves in anticipation of winter. Just imagine the hillsides and their magnificent shades of yellows, oranges and reds. Mother Nature begins the cycle of slowing down; preparing for a period of slumber. And so goes the seasons. With October comes the National Cancer Awareness month when we recall the importance of supporting those who have experienced this debilitating disease. Through prayer, donation or volunteering, we can perhaps give some comfort to these brave souls and let them know they are not alone. October also ushers in the beginning of the holiday season. It’s a time where we begin planning parties, special times with family and friends, dress up events and shopping…all a prelude to completing the 2013 year and beginning a New Year of unlimited possibilities. So, how can we welcome the holidays without feeling stressed out or, as Mr. Scrooge grumpily shouted, “Bah, Humbug”? We all have our challenges with just the daily routines; trying to get our to-do lists done, commitments met and, if we’re fortunate, sneak in some time for ourselves. Avoiding the stresses of added tasks and pressures can cause even more craziness during this holiday period.

Another suggestion, in your spare time read the book, “Stop Sweating the Small Stuff and It’s All Small Stuff”. This book can actually relieve some of the tension we feel during the holidays and even for daily living.

Possible solution…stay home and hide! (Just joking, wanted to see if you were paying attention). The one thing we can do to help ourselves this season is not rely on our memories. Lists, in this case, can be a life saviour and miracle tool. Think about it, you don’t have to try to remember everything and everyone if they are on the list. We’d most likely accomplish a lot more due to our being organized…what a concept!

Michele Avanti

Woman Extraordinaire A conversation with Michele Avanti, “anything you want to accomplish will be achieved to the degree of four things…”

Who is Michele Avanti? Who is this woman of extraordinaire talents? Michele’s world is based on the Spiritual law of love; constantly inhaling knowledge awake or asleep. Always fascinated with something new, she has packed her life with many adventures. Her limitless attitude is inspiring. Her accomplishments; mind-boggling. Her love of life; uplifting. Her view of soul in various forms; transforming. Michele traveled the inner world and was taught by Spiritual Beings since early childhood. By listening to her Divine connections, she was trained to live within the Spiritual Laws of the Universe. This gave her the courage to act according to her heart, not by outer pressures. It is her attitude about life that makes her stand out in. She sees all elements of life with clarity and equality. Her wisdom and knowledge gives great insight to those who listen. Her way of life makes those around her rethink how they see the world. An optimist…perhaps. According to Michele, “anything you want to accomplish will be achieved to the degree of four things: knowledge, energy, time, and money. Remember, there are no failures, just a shortage of one of these elements”. ILT: From an early age you were able to hear what you call, “Spiritual Beings” who guided you on your spiritual journey? What was that like and were you ever scared? MA: No, never. They were and have always been my best friends. They took me places in the inner worlds and would protect me if need be. ILT: Do you ever argue or disagree with the Spiritual Beings? MA: Oh, yes! Just like you argue with your friends. Years ago, the man I was married to had spent all our savings and I could not continue my business, so one day they told me to look in the paper for a job. They made one ad shine off the page indicating I should apply for it. I said, “Are you kidding me? This is for a graphic artist, I have owned an agency, I have hired graphic artists.” They said, “put together your portfolio and apply.” When I argue it always ends the same way, they tell me and then wait for me to comply. Of course I always do and it is always to my advantage. They are always right, no matter how it sounds and sometimes it sounds very crazy! Although I may disagree or argue, the one thing I have never done is to ignore them. ILT: How would you explain the Spirit World? MA: That is a fascinating question with many answers. The inner worlds are vast, bigger than any galaxy. When I was young I visited lots of fun places with beautiful trees and crystals as big as the empire state building. I rode horses and visited Wisdom temples. I visited friends in monasteries that are just above the physical. But as I grew up, I traveled to higher levels where it is more about frequency and less about things. It is harmonious, peaceful and one returns with downloads of information to share. ILT: You speak of the inner planes or worlds. What does that mean? MA: I call them inner planes only because we cannot see them with the physical eye; however, they are not inner or outer, they are all around us. When you visit the Inner planes you are shifting consciousness from one density to a lighter, less dense state. ILT: You have accomplished many goals in life. What is your highest achievement that surprised you? MA: I think there probably have been different things at different times in my life; however, from where I am right now, it would be winning the COVR Visionary Fiction award. As a first time, self published author, I was up against an established author with 20 books at the major publishing company, Llewellyn. For me it was a great accomplishment. ILT: On the other side, what ultimate goal or goals are you seeking to fulfill and why? MA: For me goals are never ending. I plan to finish all five of my books, Tales of Tamoor series, that is one goal. My new book, Birthday Archetypes has spurred me on to write several

PAGE 6 • october, 2013 • IN LIGHT TIMES

other books which will include astrology, numerology, mysticism, and maybe my life story. But underlying everything I write or do, I have only one real goal, to help others feel loved. ILT: What has been your most difficult challenge in life? MA: Early in life my mother had many diseases and medications that caused her to be unbalanced. I did not feel loved by her and had to learn that I am always loved, always whole. My grandmother, who loved me dearly, died, when I was in fourth grade, so I shut down my outer vision and moved to the astral vision. I did not want to continue in the physical. I had to learn my purpose here is important and it is a great honor to be in a physical body. Though my mother may have abused me due to her medicines, it was a gift because I would never choose to escape the chaos with any drug. I can thank my mother for keeping me alive. ILT: Michele, what are some of your most beautiful moments? MA: I have such beautiful moments every single day when my dog Cosette decides to sit on the couch next to me and snuggle up, or when I am writing on the keyboard and my cat Moussie jumps up and stares at me with his big blue eyes and then takes his big paw and places it on my face to tell me how much he loves me. I think beauty is everywhere. ILT: Being an Astrologer, Numerologist, author of several books, radio show host, psychic and reader, not to mention healer, how do you enjoy your life away from your many tasks? We would love to know. MA: The great joy is always being in a creative flow. I do this in most things whether speaking with my Divine Innocents or talking with Mr. Oregano (a plant being), or baking something new, or vegging on the couch with my best friends and watching, “Love It or List It,” or sitting on the back porch watching the sunset with my husband. I am one lucky woman and so grateful for all Spirit pours into my world. ILT: Being Italian I imagine you love to cook. However, I love restaurants and good food, so I always need to ask, do you have any favorite restaurant and a favorite dish? MA: I don’t live in a city and seldom go out to eat. However, my one favorite restaurant, called, “The Lighthouse” in Umpqua, Oregon is a vegetarian restaurant run by a spiritual ashram. My favorite food is Grilled Portobello Mushroom sandwich. ILT: What message would you like to give our readers? What are your words of inspiration? MA: Please be kind to yourself. Let go of the stuff you have hidden in your subconscious that cause you to feel less than wonderful, loveable and whole. Wake up each morning and look in the mirror and say to that reflection, “I love you!”

CRYSTALS & GEMSTONES

pal OCTOBER Gemstone

It (Opal) has been used by Native American Indians and the Australian aboriginal Shaman to invoke vision. It may also be used to disperse infections, purify the blood and kidneys and regulate insulin productions.

Opal is the beautiful gemstone for October. Opal was formed many millions of years ago, when a combination of silica and water flowed into cracks and spaces in the ground. This gradually hardened and solidified to become opal. Opals contain water, which makes them very sensitive to heat. They are soft and can be cracked or chipped easily. Opal is the national gemstone of Australia, which produces 97% of the world’s supply. en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Opal - cite_note-4 This includes the production of the state of South Australia, which amounts to around 80% of the world’s supply. The internal structure of the precious opal makes it diffract light; depending on the conditions in which it formed, it can take on many colors. Precious opal ranges from clear through white, gray, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, magenta, rose, pink, slate, olive, brown, and black. Of these hues, the reds against black are the rarest, whereas white and greens are the most common. It varies in optical density from opaque to semi-transparent. For gemstone use, its natural color is often enhanced by placing thin layers of opal on a darker underlying stone, like obsidian or basalt, called a doublet. Combined with modern techniques of polishing, doublet opal produces similar effect of black or boulder opals at a mere fraction of the price. Doublet opal also has the added benefit of having genuine opal as the top visible and touchable layer, unlike triplet opals. The triplet-cut opal backs the colored material with a dark backing, and then has a domed cap

of clear quartz or plastic on top, which takes a high polish and acts as a protective layer for the opal. The top layer also acts as a magnifier, to emphasize the play of color of the opal beneath, which is often of lower quality. Triplet opals, therefore, have a more artificial appearance, and are not classed as precious opal. Common opal, called “potch” by miners, does not show the display of color exhibited in precious opal. Metaphysically, Opal is known as a “stone of happy dreams and changes”; the happy dreams arising from the understanding of personal higher potentials coupled with the glad acceptance of one’s inherent perfection. The happy changes emanate from those events and situations which allow ones aspirations to surface. This mineral has been used to awaken both the psychic and the mystical qualities. It helps one to understand the higher powers of intuition and mysticism and to utilize these powers to enhance personal understanding and personal experiences in the realms of the sacred and avant-garde aspects of being. Opal has also been known as a “Stone of Love”. It has been used by Native American Indians and the Australian aboriginal Shaman to invoke visions. It may also be used to disperse infections, purify the blood and kidneys, and regulate insulin production. Opal can help vision and the eyes in general, alleviate fevers, and stimulate circulatory functions. It has been believed to provide comfort and ease during childbirth. Opal stimulates originality and dynamic creativity. It is a Karmic stone, teaching that what you put out comes back! It’s a happy gem to me and anytime I wear one, I can’t stop staring at it. It almost can put one into a meditative state, much like a good moonstone! Ref: The Crystal Bible, Wikipedia, Love is in the Earth

Vampire Strikes Back

If you tend to reach out to others to fill in your perceived gaps, get in touch with your own wholeness. Pray, meditate, visualize and affirm your inherent completeness. No one can give you what you already have.

While on an airplane I saw the in-flight movie was Beautiful Creatures. Thinking the movie was a documentary on puppies or a sweet love story, I started to watch. It didn’t take long before I realized it was a vampire movie, complete with pale faces and blood sucking. Oh, well. I’ll have to get my puppy fix at home.

What’s up with the rash of vampire and zombie movies that has pervaded books, theaters, and television of late? Since fiction generated by a culture is an expression of the culture’s subconscious, there must be a message here. Here’s what I believe it is: Our culture is filled with psychic vampires and zombies. Many feel lifeless and needy, so they seek to extract life from those who are more alive than they are. You probably have one or more psychic vampires in your life. You know who they are; people who can never get enough attention, answers, money, sex, love, or security. No matter how much you give them, they want more. They are like black holes who can never be filled. You end up avoiding or resenting them. Yet, everyone we meet is a mirror of ourselves. Each of us feels we need to get something from someone that we do not have or cannot give ourselves, i.e. power, money, connections, passion, fame, stability, or spirituality, to name a few. Sometimes we just attempt to hang with others who have what we want, to see what we can glean from them. For instance, you have youth and beauty and he has stability and money; so let’s give each other what the other one lacks? You have needs, I need to be needed, so I will be your savior based on the idea, “I lack and you have what I lack, so I’ll get what I need from you.” Relationships are then reduced to a business deal. You might feel fairly whole yourself, but you have vampires in your life. People are trying to suck from you to the point of depleting you. An alcoholic husband; a child who won’t earn his own living; a friend who has constant dramas or just won’t shut up; an employee who isn’t doing her job but you feel too guilty to let her go. In the movies the cure for vampires is garlic or a stake through the heart. That might be a bit extreme. Instead, try a good dose of wholeness applied to you or your vampire friend. Confront the illusion that you lack or need, or that your friend does. The best way to get rid of a stray cat is to not feed it, and that’s the best way to get rid of a psychic vampire. Don’t fall prey to the idea you are their source of good. Hold the vision of him or her as a whole, complete, strong, and capable person. Sprinkle that awareness with PAGE 8 • october, 2013 • IN LIGHT TIMES

a generous topping of love. Appreciate and acknowledge your friend for who she is at her best, when she demonstrates independence, strength, and capability, even if those traits show up only rarely. Reward healthy behaviors and do not reinforce the sucking response. If you tend to reach out to others to fill in your perceived gaps, get in touch with your own wholeness. Pray, meditate, visualize, and affirm your inherent completeness. No one can give you what you already have. Look within for answers and fulfillment, and then receiving support from others will be the icing on the cake rather than the cake. Buddha asked, “If you do not get it from yourself, where will you go for it?” The reason for the zombie phenomenon is more obvious. Look at people walking on the streets, riding in subways, and watching mind-numbing TV. Have you ever observed a child watching television? Hypnotized … and adults do the same. Our culture is fairly unsophisticated at dealing with pain. Our primary response to pain is to escape into distraction, addiction, and numbness. You don’t have to go to the movies to watch zombies … just scan your TV room. The only cure for zombies, the living dead, is living life. Return to authentic passion, feel our feelings, the joys and hurts, and tell the truth about them. Honestly communicate what’s going on without denying, numbing, or putting a Band-Aid on our psychic wounds. Become more childlike in our self-expression without hiding, posturing, or censoring. Say “I love you” when you really mean it and to not hang with people you don’t enjoy. To be who we are instead of who others want us to be. Then we stand a chance to infuse life back into the bodies that walk but do not go anywhere; speak but do not say anything; listen but do not hear. The walking dead can be resurrected with love and intention. This month we celebrate Halloween, when the spooks and goblins come forth. The word “Halloween” means “all hallowed eve” or “holy evening.” It’s the night before November 1st, All Saints Day. The shadows come up to be shined away by the light. As we bring the darkness to light, we might recognize what beautiful creatures we are after all.

Enlightening Views

By Dr. Judith Orloff Excerpted from “Positive Energy”

Set Boundaries by saying “NO”

IT

no is a complete sentence ! ”

may sometimes be awkward to set healthy boundaries with negative or draining people, but it is an important skill to learn. If someone has unrealistic expectations of you or unable to respect your feelings, remember “No” is a complete sentence. A key to setting boundaries is to come from a centered, unemotional place—not to be reactive. For example, if someone has been saying disparaging comments about you, from a heartfelt center say, “Please don’t talk about me to others. It’s inappropriate and disrespectful.” Then refuse to argue about it, even if your buttons are pushed. Here are some additional tips from my books, “Emotional Freedom” and “Positive Energy” to help you set boundaries, especially when it feels really awkward. Dealing with an Emotional Drainer
If you meet someone and your energy starts bottoming out, don’t think twice about politely removing yourself from this killing interchange. One of my favorite foolproof lines is, “Excuse me; I really have to go to the bathroom.” Even the most intrepid vampire doesn’t have a counter-argument for that. It’s important that you move at least twenty feet from beyond the person’s energy field. Whenever your wellbeing feels at risk around certain people, make a tactful and swift exit. In a spot, physically extruding yourself is a sure, quick solution. Dealing with a Constant Talker
The secret to dealing with a constant talker is knowing they don’t respond to nonverbal cues. You have no choice but to make your needs audible.

Tone is especially critical with these vampires. They’re hypersensitive to rejection, which provokes them to ramp up their verbiage. So, with a constant talker try to be caring-these are wounded people!--but stay definite and neutral. Then, from a heart-center, set the parameters of your dialogue. Then you won’t be left limp, resentful, or forced into rudeness. You can politely say, “I’m a very quiet person, so excuse me for not talking a long time,” or “I feel left out when you dominate the conversation. I’d really appreciate a few minutes to talk too.”

overheated drainer, you need to own that moment. Do so by letting your breath release tension and ground you. This will keep you from getting caught up in their story. Then lovingly tell them, “Our relationship is important to me, but it’s not helpful to keep feeling sorry for yourself. I can only listen for five minutes unless you’re ready to discuss solutions,” or “I’m really sorry that’s happening to you.” Then, after listening briefly, smile and say, “I’ll keep good thoughts for things to work out. I hope you understand, I’m on deadline and I must return to work.”

Dealing with a Criticizer
If an intimate or co-worker keeps telling you how to deal with something, politely say, “I value your advice, but I really want to work through this myself.” You may need to remind the controller of your position several times, always in a kind, neutral tone. Repetition is key. Respectfully reiterating your stance over days or weeks will slowly recondition negative communication patterns and redefine the terms of the relationship. If you reach an impasse, agree to disagree. Then make the subject off limits.

If you ever feel like you are being overwhelmed by a difficult person, here are some strategies to help you gain control and become centered again.

Dealing with a Complainer
The moment you sense a complainer revving up, take a slow, deep breath to center yourself. Breathing is a wonderful way to quickly reconnect with your life force so their in-yourface intensity won’t sear into your energy field and cause burn-out. Keep concentrating on your breath. Tell yourself you know what’s happening, and you can handle it. As I remind my patients: you have power here. I know how easily we can lose it. But, when beset by this

When you feel attacked break eye contact to stop the transfer of negativity. Use the breath to retrieve your life force. Let it function like a vacuum cleaner. With each inhalation visualize yourself power-suctioning back every drop of energy that’s being snatched from you. Keep inhaling until the job is done. Do this in the presence of a vampire or later on. Exhale negative energy and stress

out the back of your lower spine. There are spaces between your lumbar vertebrae, natural exit points for energy. Touch the area; get a feel for the anatomy. When toxicity accumulates, expel it through these spaces. Envision dark gunk leaving your body. Then breathe in fresh air and sunlight, a quick revitalizer. Jump in a bath or shower to clear negativity and prevent further drain. If you are feeling particularly drained add Epson salts or sea salts to the water. If you are in the shower you can rub sea salt on your skin and then wash it off. Drink plenty of water to flush toxicity from your system too. Also you can burn sage where this vampire has been to purify every nook and cranny. (This works well in hotel rooms when a prior guest’s leftover energy feels uncomfortable, but use only a little so you don’t trigger the smoke alarm!).

10 Steps To Organize & Simplify

Life is interesting. No sooner do we think we have everything organized, neat, tidy, and running like clockwork, suddenly everything is turned upside down. We are left wondering what happened? Usually what happened is that we are organized enough so we can get through the day with our to-do list mostly done only to start the next day doing the same thing. A week goes by, a month and maybe a year, and you asked yourself where the time went. And more importantly, where did I go? The ME that had goals, dreams, hopes, wishes; what happened to the “me” in the year. Where did I go in the endless to-do lists? The reality is we lost our way; if we ever knew it in the first place. We were so busy DOING, we forgot about BEING. We lost our North Star. Our guiding light. That is if we ever had it! It is an ironic habit of human beings to run faster when we have lost our way. Rollo May Psychologist But help is on the way; if you are prepared to stop for a moment, take a breath, and re-program how you live your life. How you can find your North Star and head for its’ light. Ten Easy Workable Steps … Ready? Identify Your Life Values • What is important to you? What trait or personality aspect do you admire in someone you admire? What is a must have for you in life (i.e. access to outdoor recreation. Music. Friendships. Integrity, physical health, humor, a strong work ethic, etc., etc.) List your top 5 or 6. Choose a top priority for the next six months. And then 6 months after that.
If you don’t know where you want to go, how are you going to get there? Think about the one thing that will make a difference in your life. The one thing that will allow you to focus your energy, mind space and help prioritize your time.

Write up and post your values and priorities – make them visible every day.
Keep them in full view… on your computer screen, on the fridge, in a frame next to your bed. So that everywhere your eye falls, there’s a reminder of the future you’ve planned. Make Considered Decisions • Not everything that seems like a good idea necessarily is. If we follow every idea that comes into our mind, or that someone else suggests – we are inclined to go off course and forget priorities and values – time and mind space are limited. Focus! Understand Cause And Effect • In busi-

ness they call this opportunity cost. If I do this (whatever it is) what will it cost – in time, energy, results, and is it worth it? Considered thinking is valuable – it won’t block brilliant ideas if they are considered well. Everything we do has a cost – is what we are about to do worth the cost? (by the way, this is a great discussion to have with your children!) Is It Urgent Or Important? • There is a huge difference. Urgent can take you off course – importance impacts your long term goals and vision. If you live from crisis to crisis where everything is urgent, maybe you’re an adrenaline junky? Or you need to look at your day, week, month and lifestyle, and see what needs to be shifted, changed or released so that you’re not forever putting out fires. Set Aside Regular Time To Problem Solve • Especially for the little ‘niggly’ day to day problems which keep cropping up. Plan a regular 2 or 3 hour timeslot to go over the ‘problem job jar’ and solve the problem – with a series of actions in accordance with your values. This planning gets them out of the way until you can focus on them. It’s a great tool for releasing stress. Check On The Path • At least once a month, look at your day to day and use of time against your priorities and values. Airplanes, cruise ships and major corporations have compass directional correcting tools – it’s easy to go off direction. Set sight on your North star, and keep checking in to make sure you’re on course. Be Open To New Ways Of Thinking And Problem Solving • You may have a heated discussion with a colleague or family member about your priorities, goals and direction. It doesn’t hurt to listen and ask yourself – “what if I did this?” Bring considered thinking into everything – avoid the knee jerk response of thinking your decision is unchangeable… maybe it is (and should be) and maybe it isn’t. But you won’t know if you don’t ask – what if…? Make Time To Relax And Have Fun • You’ll become bored and boring if you don’t! You may also become stressed and ill – and that’s no fun. Or productive! Book time out for yourself, your family and friends – enjoy life, stay healthy, vibrant and productive and find yourself again. What’s on Your Speed Dial? I remember how I used to punch the “anger” & “rage” selection on my speed dial…

I

was visiting my friend in California recently. I noticed the speed dial list on his home telephone and was pleased to see that I was 005 on his list. Appropriately (I thought) his Mom was number 000. I know BFFs are great, but to be on someone’s speed dial? So cool.

It got me thinking. If I used speed dial, who would be on my list? Then I started thinking about not who, but what would be on my speed dial. Specifically, I wondered what belief or emotion would I choose (how would I respond) when outside situations presented themselves to me? What speed dial choice would I make? Would I dial joy, acceptance, understanding, or discernment? Would I select good health or bad? Would I dial frustration, resentment, or fear? Would I choose love or pound the anger button? Yes, what is on my speed dial? Life happens. What do I speed dial, what do any of us dial, when the good, the bad, and the ugly of life happen? And is it time to change some of the selections on our speed dial list? I remember how I used to punch the “anger” and “rage” selection on my speed dial when I got ensnarled in traffic or when someone cut me off on the road. Oh, it was a sight to behold. My face would tighten, ugly sounds would spew from my mouth, and I would pummel the steering wheel with the force of unfettered frustration. I’m amazed I didn’t break the steering wheel. Thankfully, I’ve been able to remove that selection from my speed dial. Today I’m more likely to hit the “chuckle” button. Or, if it is a scary situation, I do a quick “fear” button, breathe, and then hit “chuckle.”

If your choice is to make positive changes on your speed dial, you probably already know there are many people and programs available to support you. Not all of them will be for your highest and best, so discernment is important. Your heart will know. Personally, I have invested a great deal of time and money in myself and spiritual development over the years. It has been well worth the investment. I remember my first program vividly. I sat in the seminar, anger emanating from every pore as I resisted the truths being presented to me—truths about self-acceptance and love, seeing the beauty in others, and finding the authentic me. The group leader responded to my hostility with love and compassion until my false self began to crumble. No matter the program, forgiveness is integral to creating a new speed dial. That means no longer wasting precious energy you have invested in being right, judging others, craving a different outcome, or having another person suffer for their “wrongs.” I’ve met people who say they have done all their forgiveness work. I say “poppy cock”! We’re never finished with forgiveness. It’s an ongoing, life-long process that expands our emotional and spiritual growth and enhances our physical health and wellbeing. There are more steps to changing the speed dial options on our phones. I will end with two of my favorites: passion and gratitude. Passion for creating a more joy-filled, loving, creative, fulfilling, and spiritual life. Gratitude for every friend and frenemy that has come into my life to support me on my journey through both joyful and painful experiences. Without them my speed dial would not have choices such as “love,” “joy,” and “abundance.” And yes, I still have some enhancements to make. How about you? What’s on your speed dial?

The shift wasn’t an overnight thing. I had to do some serious work over the years to shift my speed dial choices. That “work” included therapy, spiritual work, study, meditation, self-development and spiritual seminars, energy work, and support from wonderful friends and “frenemies.” I wonder. Are there some speed dial selections you would like to change? I know I still have a few. Actually, there might be more than I realize—which is why the first step toward changing speed dial options is awareness. If we don’t know there’s an issue, we’ll continue to respond to outside events with criticism, anger, frustration, fear, resentment, jealousy, anxiety, depression, illness, etc. As we become aware, we have a choice—change or continue descending in a negative spiral. Whereas the latter might be fun in an amusement park, in life negative spirals are generally painful in spirit, mind, and body. True, some of us choose to experience the negative—perhaps because we cannot imagine anything different, we get some sort of payback, such as “poor baby” attention, or we may not know how to change or where to go for help.

Great Tips To Have The Best Behaved Dog On The Block!

By Maureen Brownell

Dogs can be trained to stop virtually all undesirable behaviors, including constant barking, rowdiness and jumping up on visitors. Even if they can’t be fixed completely, you can still make improvements by utilizing these tips. Proper training can turn any dog into the perfect pet.

Remember that your dog doesn’t process thoughts the same way that you do. Making this assumption when training your dog results in disappointment and even disaster. This article should help you approach training in a more effective way. A new dog needs to feel safe and happy in their crate during training. Leave food near or inside the crate and leave the door open. They will think of their crate as a happy place. Establish a calm environment when you enter a room that your dog is in. Playtime needs to be a distinctive time you initiate. Don’t acknowledge your dog until you decide. This will establish a controlled atmosphere. Training a dog to go outside to pee means remembering that they’ll have to go after ingesting food or water. To keep your pet regular, feed him quality food a couple of times daily at the same hour. This ensures your dog won’t have accidents, as you’ll know when to expect a trip outside. As the dog gets better at training, you can let it have more freedom. The right balance of training, obedience and freedom ensures your dog has an enjoyable life. Don’t give your dog too much free reign though. You have to have patience when you are training your dog. This will make it less likely that you or your dog will become frustrated or upset with the process of training. Your pet wants you to be happy, but he or she cannot always understand the human language. Be mindful of how long the sessions are when you train your dog. You will bore your dog if you spend a lot of time on just one thing. Do not spend more than 10 minutes on each session. PAGE 12 • october, 2013 • IN LIGHT TIMES

A solid training tip involves maintaining an awareness of other dogs during walks with your own dog. Certain dogs often display aggression, and it can be dangerous to make the assumption that all dog owners have done the right thing regarding training. If you see a dog acting aggressively or fearfully, avoid that dog. Accidents will happen sometimes when you housetrain your pet. Any accidents should be cleaned up as soon as possible to help with the training efforts. If the accident is left behind, the smell will make your pet think it’s okay to eliminate in that spot. It will be difficult to discourage his eliminating in that spot once a habit is formed. There are a number of products that will get rid if the smell. Look for them at your favorite pet store. Never reward bad behavior with the intent of quickly ending a certain behavior. This makes the dog feel like he holds the control. An example of this would be to give the dog treats every time it barks. Remember that training your dog is about establishing a set of rules you both will live by. When these rules have been set and they are consistently followed, you and your dog will enjoy your time together even more! Do not let your dog forget what has been learned. If you continue to keep up with training your dog you will curb any bad behaviors that have popped up. Once your dog is able to understand the basics, you and your dog are limitless as to what tricks and behaviors can be achieved.

A Garden To Attract Hummingbirds

By John Sanderson

“Mommy, come see! There are fairies in the garden!” And so they might have been to the eyes of a five year old who grew up on tales of pixies, elves and fairies. The magical visitor this time, though, was a ruby-throated hummingbird. Hummingbirds have a unique ability to hover in one place by rapidly fluttering their tiny wings which may truly have made them the ‘fairies’ that many people saw hovering around brightly colored flowers. It’s not difficult to create a garden that will attract hummingbirds, but if you’d like to build a habitat in which they will happily nest and live throughout the seasons, you need to provide them with more than a sugar-water feeder and a plant or two. An active hummingbird garden doesn’t need to be large, but it will have all of the following key ingredients to attract and keep the attention of nature’s fairies. Choose nectar-producing plants that bloom at different times throughout the spring, summer and autumn. Flowers are, of course, the key ingredients in attracting hummingbirds to your garden. The tiny birds feed on nectar that is produced by flowers, and seem particularly attracted to plants with trumpet or tubular bright red and orange flowers. Among their particular favorites, though, are rhododendrons, azaleas and rose of Sharon bushes, so the red trumpet isn’t a hard and fast rule. For northern gardens that attract the ruby-throated hummingbird, choose from the list of plants below, making sure that you choose plants that flower at different times during the blooming season to provide food for them throughout the spring, summer and fall.

This Month's Great Pix

Spring Bloomers Azaleas, rhododendrons and rose of Sharon bushes make a great ‘background’ for hummingbird gardens. They bloom early in the spring and continue blooming through the early summer. Pink and bright red varieties are favored, but hummingbirds love ALL rose of Sharon varieties.

Summer Bloomers Bleeding hearts and red mountain columbine bloom in the early summer, as do petunias, morning glories, trumpet vines, trumpet honeysuckle, and impatiens, all of which attract hummingbirds. An expanse of shade-dappled impatiens is a powerful attraction for hummingbirds, which are ‘sight’ hunters, finding their feeding grounds by sight.

Autumn Bloomers Butterfly bush, day lilies, garden phlox, bee balm and impatiens all will keep hummingbirds returning through the autumn and attract late migrators. Provide a source of water in the hummingbird garden. Unlike larger birds, hummingbirds will seldom take advantage of a birdbath or bowl of water. Instead, they relish cool mists. A garden hose with a misting attachment or a small fountain that can be adjusted to a fine mist will keep them happy. Create vertical space for hummingbirds to perch and nest in your garden. Hummingbirds need shelter from predators and small branches for perching and resting (yes, yes, they do perch sometimes!). By choosing a few taller bushes or trees, you can provide both. A few strategically placed hummingbird feeders will offer an easy treat in your hummingbird garden. There are dozens of commercially designed hummingbird feeders designed to be attractive to the little wanderers. Choose feeders with bright red accents, and a capacity for about 8 ounces of sugar water. Rather than using one large feeder, place 2-4 of them around your garden, out of sight of each other if possible. Hummingbirds are notoriously territorial. By providing several ‘private’ feeding stations, you’ll increase the number of hummingbirds that you attract. John Sanderson - Courtesy of http://www.garden-furniture-guide.com

We

No matter whom we think we are here to heal, no matter what part in someone else’s healing journey we think we are about to play, it is first and foremost about our own healing.

are all here to heal ourselves. Each person must move toward healing. No matter whom we think we are here to heal, no matter what part in someone else’s healing journey we think we are about to play, it is first and foremost about our own healing. We must recognize that we live in a limitless world where we have only to conceive a thought, to perceive the reality of that thought and then manifest it into our reality. This is called the healing journey. Healing involves more than the physical body. It involves healing our universal light, the particle of the Creator of which we are a part. We came into the Earth plane as a whole soul, a fully vibrant light. As children we learned the idiosyncrasies of being human. Our parents and teachers gave us all they could, but for many of us, a great portion of our childhood experiences were negative, pulling us further and further away from our original light. We stuffed the negativity down until we got older; therefore, our child self has never had an opportunity to heal. The moment we say to ourselves, “I want to heal my inner child,” the healing begins. Healing is about the full journey of life. It happens on many levels in all four bodies–physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Everything can be healed. A friend of mine has the gift of gab, a beautiful physical body, everything except a meaningful relationship with someone of his choice. This young man won’t find that relationship until he figures out why it hasn’t manifested in his life. When he figures that out, then that meaningful relationship will appear. That, too, is healing.

If you don’t have enough money to meet your expenses, or if you don’t like the appearance of your apartment or home, then you’ve got to heal that. Everything is about healing. Healing involves the whole of you. Healing comes to its fullness when we are aware that we want to heal. Wanting to heal and healing is only a thought away. It’s just that simple. We can find our way through the healing journey if we think the proper thoughts. This is the basis of Signature Cell Healing: The fullness of healing results from the wavelength of our thoughts. We are a product of thought. We thought ourselves into being physical, into this reality called the human experience. Once we understand that, everything can be healed. We can think our way into whatever it is we have a passion to create and open our beingness to it. Remember, anything that has been made, can be unmade; anything that is marred, can be healed. When we realize that, then we see the process in its wholeness. Remember that young Master Jesus was here to remind us to heal back into love. If we want our lives to work in this healing adventure, then we need to realize that each one of us is a magnetic force of light particle energy, amassed into a physical body under the pretense of being a human experience. That means every thought we have matters. If every thought were positive, we would never have an ache or a pain, never long for a relationship, never have mental instability. We would be the highest spiritualists on the Earth plane. If you think no one can have positive thoughts all the time, then that was your first negative thought. Change that thought to this: “I can have every thought be positive.” Watch the chain of electricity

ignite and go down your spine when you recognize that you are light looking for a place to beam. When we commit to a healing journey, we realize that it’s not about healing the physical body only. It’s about healing ourselves back into wholeness. Once we have decided to heal, only our commitment to the journey is left. We stick to this commitment to heal. Oftentimes along the way, we temporarily forget what we are here to do and fall backwards, yet we start over again. We do this because we are human beings, beautiful lights of the Creator who have hidden ourselves behind a veil called ego. We allow ourselves to forget a part of the lesson plan every now and then. We journey through this evolutionary process called Earth as many times as we want, but we are only a breath away from having the whole of the healing. So just take that first step and begin to heal. Healing always focuses on love. Every cell in our bodies is compressed and surrounded by liquid, which vibrates at a higher frequency when we feel love. That’s how we send our healing energies. If all four bodies are aligned, the vibrational frequency increases four times what it normally would have risen to, so we have a body receptive to light energy. While we are in that state of awareness, every cell in our body vibrates, looking for anything that could use a little extra energy to heal. In order to heal, you must feel the love for yourself. Healing back into love means you recognize that you are a particle of the Creator, which is absolute perfection, by accepting that fact you are already healed. The journey shows how you got healed. This is what it means to heal back into love. When you know you are healed, you prove by your own experience that you have done the journey and have healed back into love. The quickest way to heal is to remember that you came here to fall in love with yourself. I know of a woman who shared a story with me, a story of healing that so touched my heart that I feel it is important to share with you now. It is a story of healing that spans 30 years. I’ll begin this story with her high school years as an art major, yet before this time, she had been bullied for years and years. She was, like many young people not part of the “in” crowd, yet did have a few friends here and there among the many “groups” that existed. As an art student, she had the task of creating a finished drawing every week, and one of those happened to be a portrait of a famous rock star. She shared the fact that one of her friends at the time happened to be a big fan of this singer, and so she gave the drawing to him as a gift. A couple of years later while still in high school, the tradition was for all senior art students to do a self portrait, and each of these would be hung on the wall of the art room. There were years of student portraits on that wall and she felt honored that hers would be among all of the others. On the day her portrait was hung, someone vandalized it by drawing a mustache on it. This was devastating to her, especially in light of all the other times she had been laughed at or put down by others. But in this case, she remembers marching right into that art room demanding to know who had done this. After much hesitation, her art teacher told her who had been responsible. She was shocked to find that it had been the very same friend she had given the rock star portrait to a couple of years earlier. Her art teacher pulled her aside and told her, “Look, you have two options here. We can try to erase the mustache and you can touch it up from there, or you can go back and do a whole new drawing.” This young woman chose the second option. She went home that Friday afternoon crushed and broken hearted, and she returned on Monday morning with a newly created self portrait, which was hung right back on the wall. She said that this action of redoing the drawing was her way of standing up for herself. She was determined to make this self-portrait even better than the first one, and by doing this she found a way to love herself even more, no matter how the world chose to see her, or act towards

her. She learned to love herself in a whole new way, and she forgave this other student in the process. Years later, 30 years in fact, she was given the opportunity to see this person again. She was so surprised to find out that not only had he felt bad about what he had done to her self portrait, but that he still had the rock star drawing she had given him. It was framed and hung in the rec room of his home. Every time he looked at it, he remembered what he had done and it had bothered him for 30 years! So my friends, for those of you with painful childhood experiences, remember that there is healing that can take place even many years later. It is never too late to heal yourself, your relationships or anything in your world that needs forgiveness and healing. You just need the courage to take that very first step toward healing, and the journey will begin to unfold.

Understanding the Child Self When we speak of the “child self ” in Signature Cell Healing we are referring to the self within you that still remembers that it is a part of the Creator Essence in all of its fullness, yet in this tender state of innocence, this child may have also experienced upsetting times, which are now seeking to be healed. We are not looking to literally go back in time and relive childhood memories, but rather to tap into the energy that still exists within our cellular consciousness from that time that may have caused pain and upset. This energy still exists within your “child self ” in the present day. Focus your energy now. Focus on this precious little self within you that needs healing. Remember how it felt to see the world with fresh eyes and an open heart—full of joy and wonder, when limitless possibilities existed all around you, long before you ever understood the meaning of sadness. Realize that some things may have happened in your world to cause you pain or some actions you may have done caused pain to be inflicted upon others. Each time another sad event occurred, another layer of energy was encoded into your cells, ever ready to be revealed at a later time, waiting to be healed. When you are truly ready to heal and you can recognize much of your system of understanding is based on the experiences of growing up, you will realize how important this process is. For instance, if you were bullied by other children, and you never healed from that, today you might have trouble with anybody in authoritative positions. Or you may have realized that all of those negative experiences from long ago may have helped you form into the person you are today, offering you deeper wisdom and compassion towards others. Go back in time once again and truly take a good long look at what you are remembering. Embrace each memory that comes up and embrace the fullness of your childhood experiences, knowing that in the larger scheme of life, what you experienced was necessary for your being to learn a deeper lesson, achieve a more encompassing love for yourself and for others. When you look back, when you feel back into that time, what you experience just might be surprising to you! As opposed to feeling all the pain and sadness, maybe, just maybe you can feel compassion for the person who tormented you because they will, at some point in time be faced with the same realizations you are having right now, and they will remember what they did to cause you pain and be truly sorry for it. oga is more than mastering postures and increasing your flexibility and strength.

The History of Yoga In Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism the word yoga means “spiritual discipline”. People often associate yoga with the postures and stances that make up the physical activity of the exercise, but after closer inspection it becomes clear that there are many more aspects of yoga. It is an activity that has been practiced for thousands of years, and is something that has evolved and changed overtime. Different factions of yoga have developed since its conception. The exact history and origins of yoga is uncertain; however, there are pieces that have been connected and allow us to make some conclusions. It is known that yoga originated from the East. The earliest signs of yoga appear in ancient Shamanism. Evidence of yoga postures were found on artifacts that date back to 3000 B.C. Evidence of yoga is found in the oldest-existing text, Rig-Veda. Rig-Veda is a composition of hymns. Topics of the Rig-Veda include prayer, divine harmony, and greater being.

“The primary goal of shamanism was to heal members of the community and act as religious mediators,” (“History of Yoga”). Yoga originally focused on applying and understanding the world. Its focus later changed to the self. Self-enlightenment became the ultimate goal. It was not until the sixth century B.C. that the poses and meditation became a critical element. They were also implemented by Buddhist teachings.

“Double, double toil and trouble, eye of newt and toe of frog”. ctober has long been the month of stories of witches and spells using herbs as well as a frightening array of other creepy ingredients fed to the cauldrons of times long past.

Halloween marks the beginning of both the excitement and stresses of the holiday season. As we leave the long hot days of summer and move into the cooler days of fall, so follows the possibility of illnesses like colds, flu, chest congestion etc. October is a great time to strengthen our immune and respiratory systems to help avoid these illnesses. Using herbs now helps not only with prevention but should you get sick, they can help reduce symptoms like fever, sore throat, chest congestion etc. and shorten the duration of winter illnesses. If you have even the slightest knowledge about herbs, you have probably heard of or even used the herb Echinacea. Echinacea is a wonderful antibiotic, anti inflammatory and antiseptic. Used at the onset of an infection i.e. cold/flu, Echinacea helps keep down the number of bacteria or viruses that are swarming your body. Echinacea can be used for infection anywhere in the body but again seems to have its best effects at the onset of illness and not so much as a preventative or when the illness has gone on too long. Most herbalists suggest taking a dropperful of a liquid extract (tincture) every hour for the first 3 or 4 days. Elder berries are a huge favorite among most people. They have been shown to prevent flu and speed recovery in those who have the flu. These delicious berries contain high levels of A, B and C and stimulate the immune system. Here is simple syrup (and delicious) that you can make:

Yummy Elder Berry Syrup 1 c. Dried Elder Berries 1 tsp. Cinnamon Chips 3 c. Water 1 c. High Quality Honey 2 TBL. Fresh (or dried) Ginger root Put berries, water and spices in non-aluminum sauce pan. Cover tightly and bring to simmer. Simmer for about 45 minutes or so until the water is reduced to ½ its original volume. Strain tea through cheesecloth. Stir in honey until melted completely. Store in a glass jar in the refrigerator. For prevention you can take 1 teaspoon (child dose) or 1 tablespoon (adult dose) daily. Should you get the flu, use same dose every couple of hours until symptoms are gone. Here is a nice tea to help strengthen your immune system and keep your lungs strong and clear of congestion:

Immune & Lung Support 1 oz Red clover blossoms (blood purifier) ½ oz Cinnamon chips 1 oz Astragalus root (builds immune reserves) ½ oz Mullein (soothing antispasmodic) ½ oz Marshmallow root (soothes mucus membranes) 1 oz Peppermint Stevia or honey to taste

Combine all herbs in glass jar. Put 8 cups water and 8 teaspoons herb blend in nonaluminum pot. Cover tightly and bring to simmer. Turn off heat and leave on stove overnight for rich healing tea. Note: if you are adding honey, add in after tea is off heat. We keep a pot of this tea on our stove and drink 2-4 cups daily for prevention. Store unused tea in the refrigerator and warm on stove (not in microwave oven) as needed. Final Helpful Halloween Hint – if you are like most people who raid their children’s Halloween candy bag, keep a stock of herbs like mints, ginger and peppermint to help settle your stomach. Happy Haunting!

If you love fresh spaghetti sauce or pesto, then you’ve just got to have fresh basil and other herbs all year round! A nice window garden getting at least 4 or 5 hours of direct light from a sunny window will give you something to pinch here and there. Gardens with mint, rosemary, bay leaf, savory, oregano, chervil, basil, and thyme are some of the easiest to grow this way. 1. Provide adequate light. The goal is a vegetative light cycle (18 hours of light at least), with eight or more hours of direct sun or bright artificial light. If you need lots of an herb, you will need to take care of the herb’s lighting needs. For example, basil and coriander (cilantro) need just a bit more light than other herbs, and really prefer 8 hours or more of direct light each day. In addition to this, if you want fresh pesto, just a pinch here and there is not going to cut it. Here’s what you can do about it:
Whenever the light levels are low, give them a boost. Two or three fluorescent lights above your plants will greatly increase growth and yield. You can grow enough basil for a few servings of pesto now and then and still have enough always at your fingertips. With a small metal halide light, you would have a larger area with better lighting. You could produce an abundance of any herbs you choose for your culinary and aromatic delights. Basil would take well to the bright conditions under a metal halide, as it is a Mediterranean, sun-loving herb. 2
. Select the proper soil. Some herbs grow better in poor soil, as they can develop a stronger flavor. The oils in herbs make them special. Very fast growing herbs often grow plain leaves and stems more quickly than they can produce tasty essential oils. Often you will hear, “Basil grows better in poor soil,” or, “Your basil will taste better if you don’t fertilize”. What is really meant here is, “Don’t grow your basil too fast.” (Basil is an example to which this applies).
 3.
Correctly set up your containers. When growing in a container it is a little different. The plant still needs some food to grow, and when that food runs out you will need to fertilize. However, as you will see next, this is all taken into consideration together with the growth habits of your herbs:

To keep initial growth rates in control, use a soil mix with just enough

nutrients. Mix 2 parts coir (coconut fibre) compost to 1 part perlite, and then add 20% worm castings. Test the pH of any mix, and if it is acidic, add one gram of hydrated lime for every litre of soil mix. Or, you can substitute with vermiculite, which does not need pH adjusting. Finally, add 1 tablespoon of kelp meal for each gallon of soil to add plant hormones and give beneficial micro-organisms something to feed on. Use this mix whenever you transplant. 4
. Know when to water. If the surface of the soil feels dry, you need to water. Another way to tell is to pick up the container and check how heavy it is. Your herbs like their soil to drain fast. You need to have containers with holes in the bottoms, and you need to add a layer of broken roof tiles (slate is ideal) or other small flat stones, or a centimetre or so of perlite or gravel to the bottom of each container as you transplant. It is best to water thoroughly but less often. Water the container until some water comes out of the bottom, but don’t over-water.

 5.
Start feeding your plants after 10 or so days. When the herbs have been in any container for ten days or more, you need to begin feeding them. In a container, the roots are stuck in a small space and will quickly mine it free of any nutrients, especially if you have been going easy on the nutrients to begin with. Feed with half-strength nutrient such as Maxsea 16-16-16 every two weeks.

 6
. Give an additional boost to your herbs. If you really want to keep your plants healthy, it is recommended to use 10 ml/gallon B1 plant mix and liquid seaweed in every drop of water you give to your plants. The B1 consists of vitamins and root hormones, and the seaweed is trace nutrients and plant growth hormones. This will help with essential oil production. Finally, water basil from around the base; it does not like water on its leaves.

 7.
Use your herbs when ready. As soon as herbs have grown enough for leaves to be pinched, without affecting their growth, you can begin using some of the herbs. This usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the herbs. Herbs like basil are best when harvested before flowers open. You will get your highest essential oil levels when you harvest at the end of the dark period, assuming you do not leave the lights on 24 hours a day.

Detoxify Your Body

By Linn Cole

with Five Cleansing Techniques

Contaminants in air, food and water attack our cells and even our DNA, contributing to disease and aging.

W

hen toxicity in our body reaches a threshold, we often start to exhibit symptoms including frequent colds, irritated eyes, headaches, fatigue and much more. To enjoy improved health, make detox a daily, weekly or monthly routine. Explore the five ways below to find a method that is convenient and effective for you.

Exercise

The skin is the largest detoxifying organ of the body, eliminating toxins through sweat. Heat-producing cardio exercise like dancing or running will encourage a gentle cleansing effect. Increased oxygen intake during exercise also contributes to detoxification. Make sure to shower after working out to ensure that compounds in sweat aren’t reabsorbed. For a more intense cleansing experience, try Bikram yoga, also known as hot yoga, which is performed in a heated room.

Niacin flush

To make the most out of visiting a sauna, try the niacin flush every day for seven days. This powerful technique even helps to break addictions. First, take one gram of vitamin C and 100 mg of niacin, or vitamin B3. 15 minutes later, begin aerobic exercise and continue for 30 minutes. The niacin flush will show as your skin begins turning bright red. When this begins, enter the sauna. Stay for 20 or 30 minutes and drink water as needed. Leave at the first sign of faintness. This routine is not recommended for those with heart disease unless a physician is involved.

Detox bath

For another more rigorous detox regimen, take a detox bath twice a day for three to four days. Add four cups of Epsom salt, two bags of Traditional Medicinals detox tea, and two bags of digestive enzyme tea or four opened capsules of digestive enzymes to the water. This bath is not only cleansing, but also counteracts excess acidity in the body. For a more relaxing experience, add three droppers of kava extract, a few drops of lavender essential oil, or both.

Elimination diet

For long-lasting resolution of chronic health issues like congestion and mental fog, an elimination diet can be a potent cleansing aid. At the most basic level, eliminate common foods that acidify and contribute to body toxicity, including refined sugar, fried foods, meat and dairy products. Allergens like gluten, wheat and corn may also be removed to see if improved energy and/or digestion results. For a more powerful cleanse, shift to a diet devoid of processed foods and eat only fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains and legumes. A further step is to refrain from cooking foods and to only eat foods in their natural and more nutritious raw form. At the far end of the cleansing spectrum is a juice fast, consisting of freshly-made fruit and vegetable juices. Start your cleansing diet with small changes to avoid excessive discomfort. You should consult your doctor and self-educate before undertaking a cleanse.

Hot towel scrub

The hot towel scrub is a simple and comforting way to cleanse on a daily or weekly basis. In the morning, after work or before bed, run a washcloth under hot water, wring it out and rub it vigorously over your body for five to ten minutes. The friction sloughs off dead skin cells, while the heat opens pores and assists with the breakdown of fat. Try standing in front of a mirror while doing it for a greater sense of connection with yourself. PAGE 20 • october, 2013 • IN LIGHT TIMES

Simple Ways to Incorporate Greens Into Your Diet

By Sandeep Godiyal

Green, leafy vegetables are vital for a healthy lifestyle. Filled with vitamins K, C, B and E in addition to magnesium, calcium, iron and potassium and rich in betacarotene and omega-3, they benefit our bodies in many different ways.

A

lthough extremely healthy foods, they do not always have the best taste. A few popular greens are spinach, kale, lettuce, arugula and radicchio. Usually people don’t like them, but for the good of our bodies, we must eat them. Here are a few ways to eat greens without having to taste them and sometimes without having to see them too.

BAKED GOODS

A delicious way to hide your greens is to bake them into your desserts and other baked goods. If you puree them, you won’t even be able to see them. Add the puree to your brownie, cake, or muffin mix and you won’t be able to taste it because of the sweetness. You can even add the puree to pancake or waffle mix. A berry smoothie is a flavorful way to hide the taste of the greens puree. If you bake bread at home, use the puree or minced greens in your bread mix, then add a bit of sea salt on top before baking. Dip it in olive oil and ground pepper for a delicious appetizer.

MULTIPLE INGREDIENT DISHES

Any food with chunky ingredients will hide chopped greens. Omelets, casseroles, soups, stews, chili, stir fry, pasta sauces and cream sauces will all disguise chopped greens. You can even add a puree to a chicken or beef broth. If you are making your own pizza at home, put a layer of spinach underneath the cheese and other toppings, and you’ll never know it’s there. For a pot of black beans, chop your greens as small as possible and drop them in the pot. Add some minced onion or a bit of seasoned brown rice and this will become a super-healthy side dish.

SALADS & MEATS

When making macaroni, potato or any “wet” salad, drop in a handful of chopped greens. They’ll stick to the other ingredients, and you won’t even

know they’re there. If your family eats a lot of meat, a great way to sneak in your greens is by adding them to the raw meat mixture before you roll meatballs, make a beef patty or form a meatloaf. Smothered in a rich sauce, you’ll never know they are there. Tortilla wraps stuffed with turkey, cheese, dressing and some chopped greens make for a great and healthy lunch. If you’re making tacos, add in the greens when you brown the beef or saute the chicken, before you add in your seasoning. For a creamy side dish, you won’t realize that you’re eating greens if you add them to a batch of creamy mashed potatoes.

SNACKS

If you like chips and dip, mix up some chopped or pureed greens in your hummus, guacamole or salsa. The flavor of the dip will hide the greens. If you are really daring and are craving a crunch, try washing and drying pieces of kale, lay them on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil, add some sea salt and then bake them for 10-15 minutes at 350°F. The benefits of greens in your diet are extensive. Greens are simply concentrated nutrition. They help our bodies by assisting in weight loss, digestion and hunger control. They strengthen teeth, bones, hair and skin, and they help manage high blood pressure. Greens lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis, memory loss and macular degeneration. They also ward off depression and help improve your mood.

Living in the Problem?

Try Living in the Solution By Dr. Noelle

You’re annoyed. You promised yourself you would lose that weight, go to the gym, get in shape to join your friends in the upcoming walk-a-thon.

Y

ou’re annoyed. You promised yourself you would lose that weight, go to the gym, get in shape to join your friends in the upcoming walk-a-thon. Yet here you are, six months later, one month away from the walk-a-thon, and you’ve only lost a couple of pounds, your trips to the gym are spotty at best, and you’re starting to make up excuses to give to your friends. But what could you do? Work takes up most of your time and energy, the kids and your spouse eat up what’s left, and who has time to work out when there’s lunches to pack, dinners to make, house cleaning, laundry and chores to do, soccer mom/dad duties and all the rest?! Not your fault, you try! And who can resist a little comfort food now and then to soothe the day’s irritations? OK, a lot of comfort food, but what’s a body to do? You’re mad at yourself for ever agreeing to join the walk-a-thon, and yes, it’s for a good cause, so of course you feel guilty about shining it on. Plus your friends are counting on your participation and you hate disappointing them. Let’s review: you feel pissed, depressed, guilty--and you’re still not up for the walka-thon. Or are you? Right now, you’re clinging so tenaciously to the problem, you have no hope whatsoever of resolving it. Rather than complaining, fault-finding and blaming, none of which get you any closer to either the walk or feeling good, try thinking positively about the situation and working toward a solution. Step 1: Reality Check. You’re not going to get in shape or lose all the weight in one month. It’s OK. It doesn’t make a bad person. Step 2: Accept The Reality, Work With What Is. You can lay off the comfort food and increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables or whatever else enhances your overall health. No, not to lose the weight, but to feel better about yourself. You can get to the gym once a week, or do some low-key stretches and exercises at home several times a week, or take a walk around the neighborhood for a half hour every other day or evening (take the dog, he’ll thank you). Not to whip yourself into shape, but, again, to feel better about yourself. Step 3: Go For A Real Solution, Rather Than An Ideal Solution. You’ve accepted that you won’t be able to walk with your friends, so go for something you can do, rather than just giving up altogether. For example, join your walk-a-thon group in support. Volunteer to man one of the “water” tables, or help set up, or stand at a critical place along the walk and cheer them on. Be at the finish line to welcome your friends with water and huzzahs! Living in the problem gets you nowhere. Living in the solution may not get you your ideal outcome, but it will get you a potentially very satisfying and self-esteeming one. Noelle C. The

Inside Truth About Your Music Choices

Health Lights

By Judith Pinkerton, Founder & President of: Music 4 Life

not realizing that the music you love is actually keeping you stuck in stress and pain.

metal, jazz, new age, or rap. Even certain composers in classical can be problematic.

How does that work? Are you a victim of your music choices? Test yourself.

Time passed in a matter of seconds as the airplane dove for land. There was no time to use music. In the aftermath, however, music could have reduced my high anxiety, which exploded into anger. My flight instructor, Mike, made two bad decisions. When starting my trial emergency landing, he ignored the plane’s electrical problems to target the construction road. The propeller stopped. Fortunately, Mike was an ace pilot and saved us twice from smashing into the ground, and pummeling forest and power lines. By the time we returned to Anchorage, we were 15-minutes late and my partner was impatiently waiting his turn to fly. We called it quits, me simply stating, in shock, that we had to get the prop fixed. Mike made light of it as his instructor license was in jeopardy. Hence, my ANGER escalated as they partied with my boyfriend at my condo. So, I found another friend who embraced my nervous breakdown and screaming fit. If only I’d known about music medicine, I could’ve fixed myself in 15-minutes.

When you instinctively push play on music, or scan the radio, you seek music that feels good to you. When you are stuck in stress (anxiety, anger, depression or sadness) you instinctively match your mood to the music and swim in that mood for awhile. Or, not: you might choose to avoid that mood and not listen to music that triggers pain. Either way, you could be stuck or repressing that unsettled mood rather than expressing it out in a healthy way. Some people say it feels like an exorcism when the mood is finally released. This can be terrifying. So, instead you may shut down, avoid music, and listen only to talk radio.

So what’s the trick in getting un-stuck? Regulate your moods with a daily catharsis. Your intentional choices of music can create a natural catharsis (“a purification of emotions”). When you experience a catharsis, you feel better, relieved, less pain, more at peace and happier.

With the world in crisis, now is the time to heal from stress and pain and increase personal resiliency. Lose the blues or increase your energy by practicing easy, accessible, inexpensive methods that save health care costs. These methods use music like doses of medicine. At one time it was believed that only new age or classical music was the healing dose of medicine “soothing the savage” breast — or beast. Now-adays, all types of music may improve health; including the music you love. But there is a dangerous pitfall: you become a victim of your own choices,

Does this sound like you? Or, do you know yourself so well that you can accurately identify what you’re feeling now, living in the present moment? Many people choose music that connects them to their past or supports their desires for the future. These connections usually repress and do not express what is felt in the present moment.

Your music choices tell a health story about you. What may stop pain for you may cause pain for someone else. When you know how to apply it as medicine, you can: • Reduce behavior problems • Decrease pain • Relieve grief, anger, anxiety, depression or frustration • Heal emotional damage from trauma • Reduce sleep problems Music applied as medicine becomes another learned life skill. Your ability

to cope will skyrocket when dealing with stress, helping you communicate more effectively, improve sports performance, increase work productivity, manage pain, improve happiness and energy levels, and meditate more easily. When applying music as therapy, a c c e s s a b o a rd - c e r t i f i e d m u s i c therapist (a state license is required in Nevada). When applying music as medicine, you do-it-yourself. To complicate life further, when you misdiagnose your mood, you may become stuck in unsettledness, where anxiety is confused with excitement. Anger is mistaken as being energized. Depression is misunderstood as soothing. And sadness is so overwhelming that it floods all feeling. When you are stuck in unsettledness, you dislike typically soothing music or happy music (what your loved one recommends to calm or lift your spirit). Also, you may listen exclusively to any one of these genres: blues, soul, alternative, minor keys, heavy

Drinking Too Much Water Can Be Harmful

O

Putting a burden on the cardiovascular system and kidneys with unnecessary water is a subtle process. For the average person, it is virtually impossible to know this burden exists, as there are usually no obvious symptoms. But make no mistake: this burden is real and can hurt your health over the long term.

It is estimated the woman who died drank approximately 2 gallons of water during the contest. When she and other contestants complained of discomfort and showed visible signs of distress, they were laughed at by the promoters and even heckled.

Forcing your body to accept a large amount of water within a short period of time, say, an hour or two, as several contestants did during the “Hold Your Wee for a Wii” contest can be fatally dangerous. Here’s why. If you force large amounts of water into your system over a short period of time, your kidneys will struggle to eliminate enough water from your system to keep the overall amount at a safe level.

By Dr. Ben Kim

n

January 12, 2007, a 28year old Californian wife and mother of three died from drinking too much water. Her body was found in her home shortly after she took part in a water-drinking contest sponsored by a local radio show. Entitled “Hold Your Wee For A Wii,” the contest promoters promised a free Wii video game machine to the contestant who drank the most water without urinating.

This tragic news story highlights the importance of understanding why drinking too much water can be dangerous to your health. Whenever you disregard your sense of thirst and strive to ingest several glasses of water a day just because you have been told doing so is good for your health, you actually put unnecessary strain on your body in two major ways: Ingesting more water than needed can increase your total blood volume. And since your blood volume exists within a closed system (your circulatory system), needlessly increasing your blood volume on a regular basis puts unnecessary burden on the heart and blood vessels. The kidneys must work overtime to filter excess water out of the circulatory system. The more water you flush through your kidneys doesn’t mean cleaner kidneys; rather, the filtration system that exists in kidneys is composed in part by a series of specialized capillary beds called glomeruli. The glomeruli can get damaged by unnecessary wear and tear over time, and drowning your system with large amounts of water is one of many potential causes of said damage.

As the circulatory system becomes diluted with excess water, the concentration of electrolytes in your blood will drop relative to the concentration of electrolytes in your cells. In an effort to maintain an equal balance of electrolytes between your blood and cells, water will seep into your cells from your blood, causing your cells to swell. If this swelling occurs in your brain, you’ll experience increased intracranial pressure i.e. your brain will get squeezed because the flat bones that make up your skull don’t provide much give. Depending on how much water your drink in a short period, you could experience a wide variety of symptoms, ranging from a mild headache to impaired breathing.

circumstances, including your diet, exercise habits, and environment. If you eat plenty of foods naturally rich in water, such as vegetables, fruits, cooked legumes and whole grains, you may not need to drink much water. Using less or no salt and other seasonings, your need for drinking water goes down even further. Conversely, if you do not eat a lot of plant foods or you add substantial salt and spices to your meals, you may need to drink several glasses of water daily. Regardless of what your diet looks like, if you sweat on a regular basis because of exercise or a warm climate, you will need to supply your body with more water (through food and/or liquids) than someone who does not sweat regularly. Ultimately, the best guidance, follow your sense of thirst. Some believe thirst is not a reliable indicator of how much water you need, since many suffer with symptoms related to dehydration. My experience has been that most people who are chronically dehydrated have learned to ignore a parched mouth. If you ask such people if they are thirsty

and would like a piece of fruit or a glass of water, they will almost always realize they are indeed thirsty. Some suggest observing the color of your urine as a way of looking out for dehydration. The idea is that clear urine indicates you are well hydrated, while yellow indicates you need more water. While this advice is somewhat useful, it’s important to remember, some food additives (including synthetic nutrients) and heavily pigmented foods (like red beets) can add substantial color to urine. Thumbs down for synthetic nutrients, and thumbs up for red beets and other richly colored vegetables and fruits. The main idea is, beware of mindlessly drinking several glasses of water without considering diet, exercise habits, climate, and sense of thirst. When you do find yourself in need of water remember, you can get it from liquids and/or whole foods rich in water. Dr. Ben Kim, is a chiropractor and acupuncturist living in Barrie, Ontario Canada. Awakened Oracle I am thrilled to join the In Light Times family. I love sharing the wisdom of Astrology with my fellow seekers. The message for us this October is to stay true to Love, to those we love, and to our Divine Selves as we emerge via transformation. Astrology uses the placement of all planets at the moment of your birth to determine the “Matrix” of energy you are working through this lifetime. The sign determines the process of connecting with that aspect of you. For instance, the Sun may be in Libra at birth, but Libra does not define “Who you Are”, it determines the process by which you will connect with “Who you Are”. Energy

for

October 2013

ARIES • Mar. 21 to Apr. 19

Aries, stand tall and stay true to your beliefs. A Spiritual Warrior knows when to stand up or stand down and knowing the difference. Being true to yourself may not require action. It may take all your “will” to stand down until right action presents itself.

TAURUS • Apr. 20 to May 20

Taurus, listen carefully to the music within before you speak your truth. Normally you know your mind and are not afraid to speak it; however, truth will shift as you grow and change, and it’s time to be sure the truth you speak is still the truth you live.

GEMINI • May 21 to June 20 Strength: Clarity. We will have an increased ability to clarify our intent and desires. Challenge: Wholeness. We will be reminded that our life is a reflection of our intents and desires. Totem Energy: Snake. Snake represents transformation. The changes within us will necessitate changes outside of us and we naturally shed what no longer serves us. Energetic Theme: The theme for this October is Dog energy. Dog reminds us to see that a loyal, yet gentle protection surrounds us. We are receiving the compassionate protection of The All. The Music of the Spheres for October The Sun, traveling through Libra, balances our experiences in all areas. Libra loves peace and beauty and looks for natural balance in all areas. At a higher octave of Libra, we find the Sacred Mirror. In the Sacred Mirror, the “other” is realized as a reflection of our “True Self” and becomes a tool through which we better see within. We must also pass the “fun house” mirrors, where the mirror is distorted, and thereby distorts our reflection. This is no longer an accurate reflection of our True Self. “Know Thy Self by feel and you will then recognize Thy Self by reflection”. Moon Cycles: New Moon: October 4th, 5:34pm PDT- 11Libra 56 Sabian Symbol (a channeled set of 360 visuals corresponding with each degree of the zodiac) 11-12 Libra- A professor peering over his glasses at his students. New Moon Message: Remember to balance relationship with the quest for knowledge. Full Hunter’s Moon: October 18th, 4:38pm PDT (Penumbral Eclipse- dimmed full moon) - 25 Aries 45 Sabian Symbol 25-26 Aries - A man possessed of more gifts than he can hold. Full Moon Message: Abundance is the state of having more than you need, not more than you want. Astrological Highlights: Saturn in Scorpio trines Chiron in Pisces on the 2nd. Saturn transiting Scorpio has been a long and relentless deep dive into our dark subconscious. Chiron’s healing trine to Saturn as we start the month will balance those raw nerves with compassion and acceptance, and tie us back to the realization that whatever is being cleared and healed right now personally, is also being cleared for the collective. Venus enters Sagittarius on the 7th expanding our attractive qualities and Mars enters Virgo on the 15th cooling down our aggressive tendencies. So by mid-month we have a buoyed sense of self assurance and calm. Mars in early degrees Virgo will oppose Neptune in Pisces on the 20th for more balance and a renewed commitment to ground our dreams and visions here and now. Mercury goes retrograde on the 21st and then the Sun enters Scorpio. Mars trine Pluto in Capricorn on the 31st is our wake up call for the 4th Uranus/ Pluto square in the cycle on November 1.

Gemini, this montn may present you with some hard choices. You may find a need for courage to face a decision this month in order to continue on your path; or, it may just be the courage to pick a path and start. Remember, no choice is also a choice.

Cancer ~ June 21 to July 22

Cancer, enjoy your passion for home and hearth because some good old fashioned grounding is in order. Let go of anything that has become too complicated and get back to the basics. Snuggle up inside that shell of yours and sink your energetic roots deep into the soil of the Mother.

Leo ~ July 23 to Aug. 22

Leo, those around you are looking for you to take a leadership role. If you have been wondering who was going to get everyone organized and sort this mess out, it may be you. You have a gift for leading and inspiring others, and this month your gifts are needed more than ever.

Virgo ~ Aug. 23 to Sept 22

Virgo, you will find your answers in the wind. Normally reason and details are your friends; however, they may not give you the answers you seek. Raise your head up from your spreadsheet and listen to the voice of Spirit for the guidance you require.

Libra ~ Sept. 23 to Oct. 22

Libra, you will be asked to Know Thyself this month. If you have been spending too much time focused on relationships, you may have lost touch with who you are without them. Remember, there can only be balance when both sides are honored. Honor yourself … others will wait.

Scorpio ~ Oct. 23 to Nov. 21 BrynMorgaine, psychic, writer and astrologer, specializes in Personal and Planetary Actualization. Author of two online manuscripts, and creator of Polarity Creation Therapy, she can be reached at Awakened Oracle Metaphysical Institute at 360-436-6287. Introducing Libra September 23rd to October 22nd “I BALANCE”

Ruling Planet: Venus ~ Rules: Lower Back & Kidneys ~ Symbol: The Scales ~ Element: Earth ~ Energy: Masculine ~ Quality: Cardinal ~ Color: Blue Green ~ Gem Stones: Diamond & Quartz ~ Flowers: Roses & Hydrangeas ~ Most Compatible Signs: Gemni & Aquarius ~ Higher Octave of Libra Energy: Experiencing beauty and our outer world as a mirror of our soul while maintaining our own center. ~ Lower Octave of Libra Energy: A focus on beauty, peace and harmony at any cost to avoid the inner conflict of seeing a reflection we do not prefer. ~ Full Spectrum of the Aries/Libra Axis: “To know myself and hold myself sacred and from that position to seek my reflection in others as a path to growth and understanding”.

Libra is the sign of Harmony, Beauty, Balance, Fair play, and Relationships. This is the process of embracing the ease, harmony and joy we find in relationships. Libra is an Air sign, so this is a mental process. That does not mean we are not heart centered, it means we are seeking knowledge. We do so with renewed curiosity, sampling any subject that holds our fascination. Wherever we have Libra in our charts, we champion esthetics, beauty and harmony. Libra needs to understand itself in relationship to others. As we vibrate higher with Libra, we are diplomats. We see the real value of harmony and the need to bring fair play to all sides of any polarity. At the highest octaves, we are embracing the external as a reflection of ourselves. We are now seeking harmonics, rather than harmony, and are empowered to heal by offering a pure mirror for others.

PAGE 28 • october, 2013 • IN LIGHT TIMES

Scorpio, a deep cleansing is on the horizon for you. It is time to purify and be rid of anything that no longer serves you. Focus on eliminating what you can and lighten your load, This includes any thoughts or old beliefs that have outlived their usefulness.

Sagittarius ~ Nov. 22 to Dec. 21

Sagittarius, your powerful optimism and broad vision are seeking a practical outlet right now. This is the month to take concrete steps toward realizing that last great idea and making it manifest. Your genius will shine as you bring those ideas to life.

Capricorn ~ Dec. 22 to Jan. 19

Capricorn, new bridges appear that will carry you over the barriers you have been feeling. Look for a new book or new idea that will bridge the gap. What you had been feeling as polarized will now begin to feel harmonious as a new path emerges.

Aquarius ~ Jan. 20 to Feb. 18

Aquarius, prayer is a powerful tool and you will find it effective. Reach within to find whatever you would like to manifest or shift and release your prayers. You will find you have more faith, and through your acts of faith, you will be richly rewarded and your prayers answered.

Pisces ~ Feb. 19 to March 20

Pisces, you may find yourself revisiting some old issues. Your inner child will be up to play and may bring a bit of long forgotten sorrow with them; however, you know what to do. Compassion for yourself and anyone else involved will quickly release any issue. Be gentle with yourself.

The

Number Nine

Over the last eight months we have looked at numbers one through eight and discovered how they sequentially expand. This month we come to the last and most complex number of all, Nine. Where the number Eight moved in a wave of precise balance back onto itself infinitely, the number Nine bridges the experience of balance to a higher power. This is why I call Nine the bridge between Heaven and Earth. Let us examine the many images of Nine to give the mind easy access to its complexity. First, imagine a barbell. The bar connects two squares, which each are composed of four lines. Thus we have nine lines working together. Seeing it in a horizontal position we may think it will take perfect balance and strength to lift. This is true in a spiritual sense. To achieve the nine frequency, one must take the balance of the eight to a whole new level. We must remain balanced and strong in the knowledge of who we are, in order to carry the frequency of Nine. Now turn the barbell upright in your mind and the bar becomes a conduit, moving frequency or consciousness from the top bell down to the lower one. Just to hold this barbell upright takes the issue of balance and strength to a whole new level. In order to do this well, we must become the bar. The bar is, a perfect symbol for the individual who carries the Nine frequency. Let’s look at another very familiar symbol, the equilateral triangle. This is a triangle with exactly three equal sides. View the triangle flat on the ground and extend a line from each corner bringing them together at the top; now we see a three sided pyramid with all equal sides and equal base. At this point we have gone from the Three frequency of the base to the Six frequency of the pyramid, fully visible above the ground. Now draw three more lines below the surface and bring them together at this new bottom point, which creates a perfect reflection of the above ground pyramid. We created these two pyramids using nine lines and thus have entered the Nine frequency. Nine’s frequency is more than what is seen, it resonates in the reflection of everything and immediately moves us from what we perceive as real into what is real. It awakens our senses to the knowledge that there is more beyond the physical perception. Whenever we see a reflection and contemplate on it, we enter the frequency of Nine. If we back away from the image of the reflecting pyramids and look at the image as a whole, we see the shape of a diamond. The diamond is what we are becoming as we expand our consciousness. In the physical body, we are inside a carbon-based vehicle. Under great pressure carbon becomes a diamond. The Nine frequencies in its highest enriched state vibrate as the diamond. Those who carry this frequency are challenging themselves in this lifetime to attain the balance and strength to be the bridge between heaven and earth. This bridge in its greatest form is a diamond crystal, which is the secret portal or stargate that ancient peoples used at the capstone of their pyramids. The vibration of a crystal energy within the confines of the Nine vibration opens doorways to travel between worlds. When you view the ancient pyramids, you often see four sided structures, with a four sided base, which equals the Eight frequency, what brings these to the Nine is the activation of the diamond capstone that draws in a pillar of light, much like the bar in the barbell described above. This pillar of light is a reminder of the pranic tube that can be activated in every human being. It is the opening of the crown chakra, that soft spot at the top of the head of a child. When we love and welcome our Divine self and align our bodies in balance with Mother Earth from which these bodies are created, we open the Crown Chakra, the human stargate and thus the pranic tube fills with light and we become the Nine energy - actively participating as a bridge between Heaven and Earth. To master the Nine, one should practice filling the pranic tube with light each day, and allowing the information of the universe to flow through us. By doing this we receive answers to questions we have asked, and frequently to questions that others we will encounter have asked. This is why those who are Nine’s in this life give answers easily, humbly and before being asked. Nines will naturally open to Source and bridge. They need time away from the crowd and do not

This chart allows you to quickly access the number related to any letter. Thus you can identify what numbers are active through a name, or address. When looking at the chart, the letters listed below each number will activate that frequency and you can add them together to find the power of a word. For example, the name, Art. Look at the column with number one at the top. There you will find A, thus A=1, R is located in the 9 column, so R=9, and T is located in the 2 column, so T=2. Thus for Art we would add, 1+9+2=12, which when reduced = 3.

like being in a group of more than three. They are humble and seldom require any of the fashionable material toys. They focus on small things and know joy and contentment in deeper ways than other numbers. Nines are always a gift to the world in some way because they do function as a bridge between worlds.

OCTOBER &

Its Frequencies

October is: O (6) + c (3) + t (2) + o (6) + b (2) + e (5) + r (9) = 33 the master number of 3 2013: 2 + 0 + 1 + 3 = 6 Total: 33 + 6 = 39 = 3 The October frequency of Thirty-Three is a powerful energy. It is the master energy of Mother Earth, a nurturing, family energy that is concerned with the feminine, the creative powers of our planet and how humans can assist in this creation. This is the month where we celebrate the harvest in the Northern Hemisphere and where they celebrate the new birth of life in the Southern Hemisphere. To gain the greatest value this month, choose to nurture life around you, if you don’t recycle, start. Consider the Earth in new ways. Plan to take walks in nature, perhaps help out with some clean up action in your neighborhood, if you can, participate in the harvest, do so actively and thank Mother Earth for all she produces for us. Take time this month to honor the temple you have, though it came through your biological mother, it is part of Mother Earth and when you nurture your body, you are honoring the Earth Mother. By adding 2013’s six frequency to this month’s Thirty Three, we activate Three which simply reiterates all that has been stated above. It is a time to choose and reunite family, to ignite our awareness to the family of all life that is around us. These bodies are part of Mother Earth, not just the human body but all the bodies on this planet; four-legged, finned, winged, as well as all vegetation, trees and mountains. We live on the skin of our great Mother. October 2013 asks us to remember our part in this creation, to unite with all life and choose to master this creative process. •
