MUSIC Details of exam Pupils will be given one hour to complete an online test. The test will feature a series of theory and listening activities relating to the schemes of work covered by the pupils this academic year.

Topics to revise Elements of Music • Pitch, dynamics, timbre, structure, texture, tempo, duration/rhythm • Understand the vocabulary associated with each element • Be able to recognise aurally, how these elements are used in different ways

Working with Chords • Recognise the notes on a treble clef and bass clef staff, including sharps and flats • Read simple rhythmic patterns with three or four beats in a bar • Have a secure understanding of how to build a triad • Know the primary and secondary chords • Recognise major and minor tonalities aurally Theme and Variations • Describe theme and variation structure • Understand how the elements of music can be changed in a variation • Aurally recognise changes in a variation • Be able to suggest how characters and personalities can be described through music Folk Music • Explain the origins of folk music from the British Isles • Identify key folk instruments and recognise them aurally • Have a basic understanding of modes and be able to explain the Dorian mode • Explain the musical characteristics of folk music e.g. simple melodies, repetition
