In questo numero vi raccontiamo la proposta estiva della Riviera in tutte le sue sfaccettature, celebrando bellezza, cultura e possibilità di vivere il territorio al ritmo lento della natura. Che ne dite di prendere la bici e scoprire la striscia sempre più lunga della pista ciclopedonale? Sulla ciclabile è pronta a ripartire la Run For the Whales, gara podistica che riaccende l’attenzione sui grandi cetacei che abitano il mar Ligure e il Pelagos, un incantevole e prezioso scrigno di biodiversità. Una gita in canoa a Capo Mortola vi condurrà alla scoperta della meraviglia dei fondali lungo il confine. E al mare guarda anche l’avventura della Transalp Experience, un incredibile percorso per bikers da Limone Piemonte a Sanremo. Al suono del ricchissimo calendario di concerti proposti dalla Fondazione Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, l’estate in Riviera ha in serbo anche storie di colori, suggestioni e luci, come quelle che stregarono Monet nel famoso Giardino Moreno a Bordighera, in parte ancora visitabile a Villa Mariani. Della scoperta della luce della Riviera da parte di Monet è pronta a raccontare anche la grande mostra a lui dedicata a Monaco, un appuntamento imperdibile con oltre un centinaio di opere di uno dei grandi dell’Impressionismo. I colori sono inoltre quelli della straordinaria fioritura di Agapanthus a Villa della Pergola, Alassio. Come straordinario è il percorso che celebra Italo Calvino nell’anno del suo centenario, e che attraverso pannelli e citazioni porta alla scoperta di una Sanremo inedita.

Tra personaggi da scoprire e assaggi da gustare tra le quinte di un paesaggio unico, la Riviera è pronta ad accogliervi per una splendida estate!

In this issue, we talk about what's on offer on the Riviera during the summer, celebrating beauty, culture and the opportunity to experience the area at the slow pace of nature. How about taking your bike and discovering the growing strip of cycle and footpath? The Run For the Whales, a race that draws attention to the great cetaceans that inhabit the Ligurian Sea and the Pelagos Sanctuary, is all set to restart on the cycle path. A canoe trip to Capo Mortola will take you on a discovery of the marvellous seabed along the border, presenting an enchanting and valuable treasure chest of biodiversity.

And the sea is also the focus of the Transalp Experience adventure, an incredible route for bikers from Limone Piemonte to Sanremo.

Set to the sound of the rich calendar of concerts proposed by the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra Foundation, summer on the Riviera also offers stories of colours, suggestions and lights, such as those that bewitched Monet in the famous Moreno Garden in Bordighera, part of which is still open to visitors at Villa Mariani. Monet's discovery of the light of the Riviera is also chronicled in the great exhibition dedicated to him in Monaco, an appointment not to be missed, with over a hundred works by one of the greats of Impressionism. The colours are also those of the extraordinary Agapanthus which blossoms at Villa della Pergola, in Alassio. The itinerary that celebrates Italo Calvino in the year of his centenary is equally extraordinary, with panels and quotations taking visitors to explore a previously unseen side of Sanremo. Among people to be discovered and tastes to be savoured against the backdrop of a unique landscape, the Riviera is ready to welcome you for a wonderful summer!

C'est toujours un moment : l'été sur la Riviera fleurie surprend par le genêt et son jaune intense, annonciateur du soleil d'été, et par le bleu cristallin et le bleu profond de la mer. Une invitation à s'amuser, à se détendre et à vivre des moments privilégiés ! Dans ce numéro, nous vous présentons le programme de l'été sur la Riviera sous toutes ses facettes, en célébrant la beauté, la culture et la possibilité de vivre la région au rythme lent de la nature. Et si vous preniez votre vélo pour découvrir le tracé toujours plus long de la piste cyclable ? Sur la piste cyclable, la Run For the Whales est prête à reprendre, une course à pied qui relance l'attention sur les grands cétacés qui peuplent la mer Ligure et le Sanctuaire Pelagos, un trésor de biodiversité fascinant et précieux. Une excursion en canoë à Capo Mortola vous fera découvrir les merveilles des fonds marins le long de la frontière. La mer est également au cœur de l'aventure de la Transalp Experience, un itinéraire incroyable pour les cyclistes, de Limone Piemonte à Sanremo. L'itinéraire qui célèbre Italo Calvino en cette année de son centenaire est tout aussi extraordinaire. À travers des panneaux et des citations, il mène à la découverte d'un Sanremo méconnu.

La Rolex GIRAGLIA FESTEGGIA L’EDIZIONE NUMERO 7O

La Rolex Giraglia è una gara velica tra le più famose, nonché la più antica regata d’altura del Mediterraneo. La storia racconta che fu ideata una sera di dicembre 1952 quando Beppe Croce, Presidente dello Yacht Club Italiano, René Levainville, Presidente dello Yacht Club de France e Franco Gavagnin, direttore di Portosole, si incontrarono a cena in un bistrò parigino. In quella serata prese vita il sogno di una regata che aveva la nobile intenzione di ricostruire lo spirito di amicizia leale e sportiva fra l’Italia e la Francia dopo i drammatici eventi della Seconda guerra mondiale.

La prima edizione della Giraglia si svolse nel 1953 con 22 imbarcazioni. Da allora, sempre mantenendo uno spirito franco-italiano, la regata ha registrato un crescendo di interesse e reputazione, attirando al tempo stesso una flotta internazionale con oltre 240 yacht provenienti da più di 25 paesi e quasi 3.000 partecipanti.

Rolex, title partner dal 1998, ha sempre apprezzato la tradizione, i valori nobili di amicizia e fraternità di questa regata, insieme al fair-play e al bonheur dei suoi partecipanti. L'evento è organizzato dai

partner Rolex di lunga data: lo Yacht Club Italiano (YCI), supportato dallo Yacht Club Sanremo, e dalla Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, tutti pienamente impegnati a coltivare lo spirito e il fascino di questa storica competizione.

L’evento prenderà il via venerdì 9 giugno 2023 dallo Yacht Club Sanremo con tre colpi di cannone allo scoccare della mezzanotte, al termine della serata dedicata agli equipaggi. Destinazione Saint-Tropez. Seguiranno tre giorni di gare inshore nel golfo francese, dall’11 al 13 giugno, con percorsi non superiori a 35 miglia nautiche.

L’attrazione principale è l’ultima regata, la cosiddetta “lunga”, prova di quasi 242 miglia nautiche equivalenti a circa 450 km, che partirà mercoledì 14 da Saint-Tropez con destinazione l’isola della Giraglia, a nord della Corsica, e proseguirà poi verso l’arrivo, a Genova. Qui, allo Yacht Club, sarà ospitata la premiazione finale il 17 giugno.

Qualche numero? Il record della Rolex Giraglia, sul percorso totale di 241 miglia da Saint-Tropez a Sanremo del 2012, appartiene a Esimit Europa 2 che impiegò 14 ore, 56 minuti e 16 secondi.

GIRAGLIA THE ROLEX CELEBRATES ITS 70TH EDITION

The Rolex Giraglia is one of the most famous sailing races and the oldest offshore race in the Mediterranean. The story goes that it was conceived one evening in December 1952, when Beppe Croce, Chairman of the Yacht Club Italiano, René Levainville, Chairman of the Yacht Club de France, and Franco Gavagnin, Director of Portosole, met for dinner in a Parisian bistro. That evening, the dream of a regatta with the noble intent of rebuilding the spirit of fair and sporting friendship between Italy and France in the wake of the dramatic events of the Second World War came to life.

The first edition of the Giraglia was held in 1953, with 22 boats. Since then, always maintaining a Franco-Italian spirit, the regatta has grown in terms of interest and reputation, attracting an international fleet of over 240 yachts from over 25 countries and almost 3,000 participants. Rolex, title partner since 1998, has always appreciated the tradition and the noble values of friendship and fraternity of this regatta, along with the fair-play and bonheur of its participants. The event is organised by Rolex's long-standing partners, the Yacht Club Italiano (YCI),

supported by the Yacht Club Sanremo, and the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, all of which are fully committed to cultivating the spirit and charm of this historic competition. The event will kick off on Friday the 9th of June 2023 from the San Remo Yacht Club, with three cannon shots at the stroke of midnight, at the end of the evening dedicated to the crews. Destination SaintTropez. This will be followed by three days of inshore racing in the French Gulf, from 11 to 13 June, with courses not exceeding 35 nautical miles.

The main attraction is the last regatta, the so-called “long” regatta, a race covering almost 242 nautical miles, equivalent to around 450 km, which will start on Wednesday the 14th from Saint-Tropez, heading for the island of Giraglia, north of Corsica, and will then continue towards the finish, in Genoa. La Giraglia Rolex est l'une des plus célèbres régates de voile et la plus ancienne course au large de la Méditerranée. Un’estate di musica con l'Orchestra infonica di Sanremo

Per l’estate 2023 è confermato il ritorno della Sanremo Summer Symphony, la rassegna estiva dell'Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, frutto della collaborazione tra la Fondazione Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, il Comune di Sanremo e gli operatori del turismo, che porterà nella Città dei Fiori un calendario di artisti noti della scena italiana e di quella internazionale. Come da tradizione ormai consolidata, la ricca stagione estiva della Sinfonica prenderà il via in occasione della Festa della Musica 2023, mercoledì 21 giugno al Forte di Santa Tecla. A seguire, da sabato 24 giugno, le performance verranno ospitate nell'Auditorium Franco Alfano in Corso Imperatrice. L’Auditorium Franco Alfano è uno stupendo teatro all'aperto, costruito all'interno del Parco Marsaglia, con una splendida vista sul mare.

Da giugno ad agosto saranno tre i mesi di musica dal vivo, con un’intensa e varia programmazione: dalla classica, al jazz e al pop, per un totale di quattordici live che includono numerose prime assolute. Sarà un programma davvero ricco e variegato,

costruito per soddisfare i gusti di tutti gli spettatori, residenti e turisti, italiani e stranieri, grandi e piccini. Fra i nomi principali figurano Neri Marcorè, Alberto Fortis, Sergio Cammariere, Noa accompagnata da Gil Dor alla chitarra, gli Oblivion, Randy Brecker, Malika Ayane, Peppe Voltarelli, Olden, Simona Molinari con il trombettista Fabrizio Bosso, Enrica Tesio insieme ad Andrea Mirò e i talenti di Area Sanremo in un sentito omaggio al compianto Vittorio De Scalzi. A SUMMER OF MUSIC WITH THE SANREMO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

The return of the Sanremo Summer Symphony, the summer festival of the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra, is confirmed for the summer of 2023. The result of the collaboration between the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra Foundation, the Municipality of Sanremo and tour operators in the area, it brings a calendar of events featuring well-known Italian and international artists to the Città dei Fiori.

In keeping with what has become a wellestablished tradition, the rich Symphonic summer season will kick off with the Festa della Musica 2023, on Wednesday 21 June at the Fort of Santa Tecla. Then, from Saturday 24 June, performances will be hosted at the Franco Alfano Auditorium, a beautiful open-air theatre, built inside Parco Marsaglia in Corso Imperatrice, with a delightful view of the sea.

From June to August, three months of live music, with an intense and varied

programme: from classical music to jazz and pop, for a total of fourteen live performances that include numerous world premieres. It will be a truly rich and varied programme, designed to satisfy the tastes of all kinds of audiences, residents and tourists, Italians and foreigners, young and old. L’arrivo dell’estate a Sanremo è caratterizzato da una serie di appuntamenti sportivi outdoor di alto livello agonistico. Al campo ippico si svolge Jumping Sanremo 2023 dal 9 all’11 giugno e dal 16 al 18 giugno, rinomato concorso ippico internazionale di salto a ostacoli. Jumping Sanremo prevede una serie di gare di salto ostacoli per le seguenti tipologie CSI YH1* 6YO + CSI 1* + CSI 2* + CSIP-A. L’evento è solito richiamare atleti e cavalli da tutti i continenti, autentici campioni della disciplina. Ad attirarli, il prestigio dell’evento, del campo Ippico di Sanremo e un ricco montepremi. Tra gli ospiti che, nel tempo, hanno scelto la Città dei Fiori per i concorsi ippici ci sono i celeberrimi fratelli Raimondo e Piero D’Inzeo, Graziano Mancinelli, noto negli anni ‘50 e ‘60 come “il cavaliere per antonomasia”, e poi ancora Álvaro Affonso “Doda” de Miranda Neto, fuoriclasse brasiliano, lo svizzero Steve Guerdat che presenziò nel 2013, quando era campione del mondo in carica. Non vanno dimenticate Marta Ortega Pérez, oggi presidente della

catena spagnola di abbigliamento Zara, e poi, nel 2010 e 2011, Charlotte Casiraghi, che gareggiò sotto gli occhi attenti della madre Carolina di Monaco e di SAS il Principe Alberto II, e ancora le squadre nazionali del Qatar e della Siria, in allenamento a Sanremo per gli Europei.

Jumping Sanremo 2023 è organizzata dalla Società Ippica Sanremo, attiva fin dai “ruggenti” anni ‘30 del Podestà Pietro Agosti. A fare da splendida cornice alla gara sarà il campo ippico situato in regione Solaro, con una vista sul mare mozzafiato. Il complesso si sviluppa su un terreno di circa trentaseimila metri quadrati ed è dotato di diverse aree, tra cui un’eccellente scuola di equitazione, un campo in sabbia, il maneggio coperto, la pista di sabbia per il galoppo, ampie e curatissime scuderie, bar e ristorante. Sul campo di gara principale in erba (120 metri per 80) si affacciano le tribune in grado di accogliere più di 1.500 spettatori. Si preannunciano, quindi, due week-end all’insegna dello sport e del sano divertimento.

The arrival of summer in Sanremo is characterised by a series of top-level outdoor sporting events. Jumping Sanremo 2023, a renowned international show jumping contest, will be held at the equestrian arena from 9 to 11 June and from 16 to 18 June. Jumping Sanremo includes a series of show jumping events for the following types: CSI YH1* 6YO + CSI 1* + CSI 2* + CSIP-A. The event usually attracts riders and horses

from every continent, real champions of the discipline. What attracts them is the prestige of the event, the Sanremo equestrian arena and the generous prize money. Guests who have chosen the City of Flowers for equestrian competitions over the years include the famous brothers Raimondo and Piero D'Inzeo, Graziano Mancinelli, known in the 1950s and 1960s as “the

rider par excellence”, and then the Brazilian champion Álvaro Affonso “Doda” de Miranda Neto, and Steve Guerdat from Switzerland, who attended in 2013, when he was reigning world champion. And of course we mustn't forget Marta Ortega Pérez, now president of the Spanish clothing chain Zara, and then, in 2010 and 2011, Charlotte Casiraghi, who competed under the watchful eyes of her mother Princess Caroline of Monaco and HSH Prince Albert II, as well as the national teams of Qatar and Syria, training in Sanremo for the European Championships.

Jumping Sanremo 2023 is organised by Società Ippica Sanremo, which has been active since the “roaring” 1930s of Podestà Pietro Agosti. A splendid setting for the competition will be the equestrian arena in the Solaro region, with its breathtaking view of the sea. The complex covers an area of approximately thirty-six thousand square metres and is equipped with various areas, including an excellent riding school, a sand ring, an indoor riding arena, a sand track for galloping, large and well-maintained stables, a café and restaurant. The main competition ring, surfaced with grass (120 metres by 80) is overlooked by the grandstands, which can accommodate over 1,500 spectators. Two weekends of sport and good, clean fun are to be expected.

ad Alassio uno storico giardino da sogno

Il suo giardino è stato incoronato nel 2022 Parco più bello d’Italia, vanta un legame storico con Sir Hanbury ed è oggi uno scrigno di collezioni botaniche dai cui colori e profumi lasciarsi affascinare. Siamo a Villa della Pergola, Alassio, che divenne dalla seconda metà dell’Ottocento dimora del Generale Montagu McMurdo. Fu lui a trasformare le fasce a uliveti in un giardino ornamentale, mentre nel 1900 la proprietà passò a Sir Walter Hamilton-Dalrymple: sono di quest’epoca le fontane, con le piante acquatiche, i boschetti di cipressi e le prime rose.

“Un degno rivale dei giardini di Sir Thomas Hanbury a La Mortola”: così scriveva nel 1907 William Scott sul giardino. Parole profetiche: nel 1922 fu proprio Daniel Hanbury, figlio di Sir Thomas, ad acquistare la Villa, arricchendo il giardino con esemplari di palme, cactacee, agavi e aloe provenienti dalla Mortola.

Quella degli Hanbury fu un’epoca d’oro interrotta poi dalla guerra: l’abbandono e il progressivo degrado culminarono con la morte della vedova Hanbury. Finché, nel 2006, una vendita all’asta giudiziaria permise a una cordata di amici guidata da Silvia e Antonio Ricci di recuperare la Villa e il giardino scongiurando una speculazione edilizia.

Iniziava la rinascita, con il restauro di 22 mila metri quadrati di flora mediterranea ed esotica guidato dall’architetto paesaggista Paolo Pejrone.

Oggi il parco custodisce sorprese per ogni stagione. La primavera trasforma il giardino in una cascata di glicini: sono decine le varietà, alcune storiche, che crescono nel parco. Si tratta della più importante collezione italiana. L’estate si tinge delle sfumature di azzurro degli Agapanthus, di cui i giardini offrono la collezione più vasta d’Europa con oltre 500 specie. Anche gli agrumi si distinguono con esemplari di pregio, tra cui il Chinotto di Savona, e sono curiose le cactacee di ogni latitudine, ma anche la rara e preistorica Wollemia nobilis.

La meraviglia prosegue con fioriture di tantissime specie, tra cui strelizie giganti, diksonie, tumbergie, spiree, ortensie quercifoglie, bouganville, dature, bignonie, gelsomini, Ginkgo biloba, rose antiche, per non parlare dei fiori di loto e delle romantiche ninfee ospitate negli specchi d’acqua. Oggi la Villa è un relais di charme e ospita un ristorante stellato. VILLA DELLA PERGOLA A HISTORICAL DREAM GARDEN IN ALASSIO

The garden of the Villa was crowned Italy's most beautiful park in 2022. It boasts a historical connection with Sir Thomas Hanbury and is a treasure trove of charmingly colourful and scented botanical collections. The property in question is Villa della Pergola, in Alassio, which became the home of General Montagu McMurdo in the second half of the 19th century. It was he who transformed the olive groves into an ornamental garden. Then, in 1900, the property passed into the hands of Sir Walter Hamilton-Dalrymple and the fountains, with their aquatic plants, the cypress groves and the first roses date from this period.

In 1907, William Scott wrote about the garden, describing it as “a worthy rival for Sir Thomas Hanbury's gardens at La Mortola”. These turned out to be prophetic words: in 1922, it was Sir Thomas's son, Daniel Hanbury, who bought the Villa, enriching the garden with specimens of palms, cacti, agaves and aloes from La Mortola. That of the Hanbury family was a golden age, interrupted by the war: abandonment and progressive decay culminated with the death of Hanbury's widow. In 2006, a foreclosure auction enabled a group of friends led by Silvia and Antonio Ricci to recuperate the Villa and the garden, preventing property speculation. The rebirth began, with the restoration of 22 thousand square metres of Mediterranean and exotic flora, supervised by landscape architect Paolo Pejrone. Today, the park holds surprises for every season. Spring transforms the garden into a cascade of wisteria: dozens of varieties, some historical, grow in the park. It is the most important collection in Italy. Summer is tinged with the blue shades of the Agapanthus, of which the gardens offer the largest collection in Europe, with over 500 species. There are also fine specimens of citrus fruits, including the Savona Chinotto, and curious cacti from every latitude, as well as the rare and prehistoric Wollemia nobilis. The wonderment continues with blossoms of many species, including giant strelitzias, dicksonias, thunbergias, spiraeas, oakleaf hydrangeas, bougainvillea, daturas, bignonias, jasmines, Ginkgo biloba and antique roses, not to mention the lotus blossoms and romantic water lilies that live in the ponds. Today the Villa is a charming relais and houses a Michelin-starred restaurant. VILLA DELLA PERGOLA UN JARDIN HISTORIQUE DE RÊVE À ALASSIO

Son jardin a été couronné plus beau parc d'Italie en 2022, a un lien historique avec Sir Hanbury et est aujourd'hui un trésor de collections botaniques dont les couleurs et les senteurs fascinent. Nous sommes à la Villa della Pergola, à Alassio, qui est devenue la résidence du général Montagu McMurdo durant la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle.

C'est lui qui transforma les terrasses d'oliviers en jardin d'agrément, puis en 1900 la propriété passa à Sir Walter Hamilton-Dalrymple : les fontaines, avec leurs plantes aquatiques, les bosquets de cyprès et les premiers rosiers datent de cette époque.

« Un digne rival des jardins de Sir Thomas Hanbury à La Mortola » : c'est ainsi que William Scott écrivait en 1907 à propos du jardin. Des paroles prophétiques : en 1922, c'est le fils de Sir Thomas, Daniel Hanbury, qui acheta la Villa, enrichissant le jardin de spécimens de palmiers, de cactus, d'agaves et d'aloès provenant de La Mortola.

L'âge d'or de la famille Hanbury est interrompu par la guerre : l'abandon et la décadence progressive aboutissent à la mort de la veuve Hanbury. Jusqu'à ce qu'en 2006, une vente aux enchères judiciaire permette à un groupe d'amis mené par Silvia et Antonio Ricci de récupérer la villa et le jardin, évitant ainsi la spéculation immobilière. La renaissance a commencé, avec la restauration de 22 000 mètres carrés de flore méditerranéenne et exotique, sous la direction de l'architecte paysagiste Paolo Pejrone.

Aujourd'hui, le parc réserve des surprises à chaque saison. Le printemps transforme le jardin en une cascade de glycines : des dizaines de variétés, dont certaines historiques, poussent dans le parc. Il s'agit de la plus importante collection d'Italie. L'été est teinté des nuances de bleu des Agapanthes, dont les jardins offrent la plus grande collection d'Europe avec plus de 500 espèces.

Les agrumes se distinguent également avec de beaux spécimens, dont le Chinotto di Savona, et de curieuses cactées de toutes les latitudes, ainsi que la rare et préhistorique Wollemia nobilis. L'émerveillement se poursuit avec la floraison de nombreuses espèces, dont les strelizias géants, les diksonias, les tumbergias, les spireas, les hortensias quercifoliés, les bougainvilliers, les daturas, les bignonias, les jasmins, le Ginkgo biloba, les roses anciennes, sans oublier les fleurs de lotus et les nénuphars romantiques abrités dans les étangs.

Aujourd'hui, la Villa est un relais de charme et abrite un restaurant étoilé. EN PLEINE LUMIÈRE

A 140 anni dalla sua prima visita a Monaco, lo spirito di Claude Monet ritorna al Grimaldi Forum, trasformato in un prezioso scrigno per “una delle più grandi monografie a lui dedicate in questo ultimo decennio”. “Monet en pleine Lumière" è la mostra che, dall’8 luglio al 3 settembre, esporrà quasi un centinaio delle opere più iconiche dell’artista provenienti da tutto il mondo.

Con l’obiettivo di offrire al pubblico una nuova prospettiva sull’artista, la curatrice della mostra Marianne Mathieu, storica dell’arte ed esperta di Monet, racconta il mondo del pittore francese attraverso un itinerario che ripercorre i suoi viaggi, spesso fonti d’ispirazione. La mostra monegasca permette così di comprendere meglio gli effetti che la famosa visita in Riviera del 1884 ebbe su Monet, accompagnato dall’amico Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Da allora i paesaggi di Monaco, Roquebrune, Bordighera e Antibes, come per incanto, diventano centrali nella ricerca dell’artista: la luce emanata da queste località, così diversa, gli permette di arricchirsi di nuovi colori che cerca di riprodurre sulla tela rappresentando, per esempio, la spiaggia del Salis o il forte di Antibes in tutte le condizioni atmosferiche.

Marianne Mathieu conferma la coerenza dell’opera di Monet, dalla giovinezza a Le Havre agli ultimi dipinti a Giverny. In Riviera, tra il 1883 e il 1888, nel pieno della sua maturità artistica, l’artista si dedicò alla ricerca di momenti, dipingendo non un paesaggio ma un’ atmosfera. Una volta stabilitosi a Giverny, Monet si evolve di nuovo, cambia il suo punto di vista: abbandona le vedute panoramiche a favore di una cornice, concentrandosi su immagini astratte ispirate ai riflessi dell’acqua.

L’esposizione del Grimaldi Forum è dunque un appuntamento importante per chi, oltre ad amare Monet, voglia comprendere perché i soggiorni dell'artista in Riviera siano stati un momento cruciale del suo percorso artistico. Il suggerimento, ancora una volta, arriva da Marianne Mathieu: “In questa mostra, avviciniamoci alle opere di Claude Monet attraverso il prisma della luce: non chiediamoci cosa dipinge, ma piuttosto quando lo dipinge. Non cerchiamo un motivo, ma un momento nel tempo”. La sezione dedicata ai dipinti realizzati durante i suoi soggiorni in Riviera, oltre una ventina, illuminerà i visitatori.

140 years after his first visit to Monaco, the spirit of Claude Monet returns to the Grimaldi Forum, transformed into a precious showcase for “one of the largest monographs dedicated to him in the last decade”. “Monet en pleine Lumière” is the exhibition that will display almost a hundred of the artist's most iconic works from around the world, from 8 July to 3 September. With the aim of offering the public a new perspective on the artist, the exhibition's curator Marianne Mathieu, an art historian and expert on Monet, tells the story of the French painter's world, through an itinerary that retraces his travels, which were often a source of inspiration. The Monaco exhibition offers a better understanding of the effects that the famous 1884 visit to the Riviera had on Monet, who was accompanied by his friend Pierre-Auguste Renoir. From then on, the landscapes of Monaco, Roquebrune, Bordighera and Antibes became central to the artist's research, as if by magic. The very

different light emanating from these locations enriched his world with new colours, which he tried to reproduce on canvas, portraying the beach at Salis, for example, or the fort at Antibes fortress in all weathers.

Marianne Mathieu confirms the consistency of Monet's work, from his youth in Le Havre to his last paintings in Giverny. On the Riviera, between 1883 and 1888, at the height of his artistic maturity, the artist concentrated on the search for moments, painting not a landscape but an atmosphere. Once settled in Giverny, Monet evolved again, changing his point of view. He abandoned panoramic landscapes in favour of a frame, concentrating on abstract images inspired by reflections on water. The Grimaldi Forum exhibition is an important appointment for anyone who not only loves Monet, but also wants to understand why the artist's stays on the Riviera were a crucial moment in his artistic career. The suggestion, once again, comes

from Marianne Mathieu: “In this exhibition, we approach Claude Monet's works through the prism of light: we shouldn't ask what he painted, but rather when he painted it. We shouldn't look for a reason, but for a moment in time”. The section devoted to the over twenty paintings created during his stays on the Riviera will enlighten visitors.

« Monet en pleine Lumière » est l'exposition qui, du 8 juillet au 3 septembre, présentera près d'une centaine d'œuvres parmi les plus emblématiques de l'artiste, en provenance du monde entier.

Afin d'offrir au public un nouveau regard sur l'artiste, la commissaire de l'exposition, Marianne Mathieu, historienne de l'art et spécialiste de Monet, raconte l'univers du peintre français à travers un parcours qui retrace ses voyages, souvent source d'inspiration. L'exposition de Monaco permet ainsi de mieux comprendre les effets qu'a eus sur Monet, accompagné de son ami Pierre-Auguste Renoir, la fameuse visite de 1884 sur la Riviera. Dès lors, les paysages de Monaco, Roquebrune, Bordighera et Antibes deviennent, comme par enchantement, le cœur des recherches de l'artiste : la lumière qui émane de ces lieux si différents lui permet de s'enrichir de nouvelles couleurs qu'il tente de reproduire sur la toile en représentant, par exemple, la plage de la Salis ou la forteresse d'Antibes par tous les temps.

Marianne Mathieu confirme la cohérence de l'œuvre de Monet, de sa jeunesse havraise aux derniers tableaux de Giverny. Sur la Riviera, entre 1883 et 1888, à l'apogée de sa maturité artistique, l'artiste se consacre à la recherche d'instants, peignant non pas un paysage mais une atmosphère.

Une fois installé à Giverny, Monet évolue encore, changeant de point de vue : il abandonne les vues panoramiques au profit d’un cadrage resserré offrant une vision quasi-abstraite de l’eau et ses reflets. L'exposition du Grimaldi Forum est donc un rendez-vous important pour tous ceux qui non seulement aiment Monet, mais veulent aussi comprendre pourquoi les séjours de l'artiste sur la Riviera ont été un moment crucial

dans sa carrière artistique. Une fois de plus Marianne Mathieu donne un conseil : « Dans cette exposition, abordons l’œuvre de Claude Monet au travers du prisme de la lumière : ne nous demandons pas ce que Monet peint mais plutôt quand il le peint. Ne cherchons pas un motif, mais un instant ». La section consacrée aux peintures réalisées lors de ses séjours sur la Riviera, plus d'une vingtaine, éclairera les visiteurs.

MARIANI il giardino segreto di Monet

È tra i pochi atelier originali che ancora oggi, nel mondo, permettono un viaggio alla scoperta dei luoghi degli artisti e dei loro strumenti di lavoro. “La Specola” è l’atelier, conservato e interamente ristrutturato, del pittore impressionista lombardo Pompeo Mariani (Monza 1857 - Bordighera 1927), tra le personalità che tra Ottocento e Novecento animarono la vita culturale in Riviera. Lo studio del pittore si trova all’interno di Villa Mariani e del suo parco, accessibile da via Fontana Vecchia 7, alle spalle dell’antico borgo di Bordighera Alta. Acquistata dall’artista nel 1909 la villa, progettata da Charles Garnier, fu dapprima ampliata da Luigi Broggi, architetto di Villa Regina Margherita. Una seconda fase di lavori coinvolse il figlio del celebre paesaggista Ludwig Winter, Rodolfo, che progettò “La Specola”, luogo di lavoro per il pittore, dove esporre anche le proprie collezioni di manufatti artistici, tra raffinate finiture e arredi di noti artigiani.

Una metaforica finestra sul mondo collocata in mezzo allo storico giardino, dalla quale l’artista poteva trovare ispirazione grazie alle ottime condizioni di luce. La stessa luce che andava cercando Claude Monet durante il suo soggiorno bordigotto nel 1884.

Il giardino di Villa Pompeo Mariani è infatti ciò che resta oggi dell’antico Giardino Moreno, noto all’epoca per la sua ricchezza e bellezza. Di proprietà del ricco commerciante Moreno, questo luogo era così famoso che Monet chiese e ottenne il permesso di potervi dipingere, tra piante esotiche, agrumi e ulivi. Alcuni di questi alberi sopravvivono oggi, testimonianze secolari di ciò che Monet impresse sulle sue tele, lavori come “Bois d’oliviers au jardin Moreno” (1884), “Jardins de la villa Moreno” (1884), “Jardins Moreno à Bordighera” (1884) i cui scorci sono in parte ancora riconoscibili dal giardino di Villa Pompeo Mariani.

Di conservare e valorizzare il patrimonio della casa-museo, così denominata dal 1998, si occupa oggi la Fondazione Pompeo Mariani, che organizza visite guidate al Parco e all’atelier. I dipinti, donati all'Istituto Internazionale di Studi Liguri dalla famiglia LomazziScevak, erede del pittore, sono esposti al Centro “Nino Lamboglia” di Bordighera, sede dell’Istituto.

VILLA POMPEO MARIANI MONET'S SECRET GARDEN

This is one of the few original ateliers in the world that still allow people to go on a journey of discovery of the workplaces of artists and their tools. “La Specola” is the preserved and fully renovated atelier of the Lombard Impressionist painter Pompeo Mariani (Monza 1857 - Bordighera 1927), one of the characters who brightened up cultural life on the Riviera between the 19th and 20th centuries.

The painter's studio is located inside Villa Mariani and its park, accessible from number 7 Via Fontana Vecchia, behind the antique village of Bordighera Alta. Purchased by the artist in 1909, the villa, designed by Charles Garnier, was first extended by Luigi Broggi, the architect who designed Villa Regina Margherita.

A second phase of work involved the son of the famous landscape painter Ludwig Winter, Rodolfo, who designed “La Specola”, a place for the artist to work, where he could also display his collections of artistic artefacts, featuring refined finishes and filled with furniture by well-known craftsmen.

A metaphorical window on the world located in the middle of the historic garden, from which the artist could draw inspiration thanks to the excellent light conditions. The same light that Claude Monet sought during his stay in Bordighera in 1884. The garden of Villa Pompeo Mariani is all that remains of the antique Moreno Garden, famous at the time for its wealth and beauty. Owned by the wealthy merchant Moreno, the place was so famous that Monet asked and obtained permission to paint there, surrounded by exotic plants, citrus and olive trees. Some of these trees survive today, age-old testimonies of what Monet put on his canvases, works such as “Bois d’oliviers

au jardin Moreno” (1884), “Jardins de la villa Moreno” (1884) and “Jardins Moreno à Bordighera” (1884), views of which are still partly recognisable from the garden of Villa Pompeo Mariani. Preserving and enhancing the heritage of the house-museum, as it has been known since 1998, is now the responsibility of the Pompeo Mariani Foundation, which organises guided tours of the park and the atelier. The paintings, donated to the International Institute of Ligurian Studies by the Lomazzi - Scevak family, the painter's heirs, are on display at the “Nino Lamboglia” Centre in Bordighera, the Institute's headquarters.

Cette même lumière que Claude Monet a recherchée lors de son séjour à Bordighera en 1884. Le jardin de la Villa Pompeo Mariani est en fait ce qui reste aujourd'hui de l'ancien jardin Moreno, connu à l'époque pour sa richesse et sa beauté. Propriété du riche négociant Moreno, ce lieu était si célèbre que Monet demanda et obtint l'autorisation d'y peindre, au milieu de plantes exotiques, d'agrumes et d'oliviers. Certains de ces arbres subsistent aujourd'hui, témoins séculaires de ce que Monet a imprimé sur ses toiles, des œuvres telles que "Bois d'oliviers au jardin Moreno" (1884), "Jardins de la villa Moreno" (1884), "Jardins Moreno à Bordighera" (1884), dont des vues sont encore partiellement reconnaissables dans le jardin de la Villa Pompeo Mariani. La conservation et la mise en valeur du patrimoine de la maison-musée, ainsi dénommée depuis 1998, sont désormais confiées à la Fondazione Pompeo Mariani, qui organise des visites guidées du parc et de l'atelier. Les tableaux, offerts à l'Institut international d'études ligures par la famille Lomazzi - Scevak, héritière du peintre, sont exposés au Centre "Nino Lamboglia" de Bordighera, siège de l'Institut.

Italo Calvino A SPASSO PER LA SANREMO DI

A cento anni dalla nascita, Sanremo omaggia Italo Calvino con un percorso che ricostruisce la mappa dei luoghi dello scrittore: quelli autobiografici, quelli narrati e quelli che intrecciano le due dimensioni. È un viaggio che svela il legame tra la memoria di Calvino e la città dove trascorse i suoi primi vent’anni: un’inedita valorizzazione letteraria per Sanremo e una preziosa risorsa turistica, ma anche e soprattutto il frutto di un lavoro corale che ha visto impegnati gli studenti di diversi corsi dell’Università di Genova, quelli dei licei di Imperia, Sanremo e Ventimiglia, e quelli dell’Accademia di belle arti di Sanremo. Frutto dell’approfondimento e della ricerca corale è il libro “Italo Calvino, Sanremo e dintorni. Un itinerario letterario (1923-2023)”, pubblicato da Il Palindromo e curato da Veronica Pesce, docente dell’Università di Genova, e Laura Guglielmi, giornalista e autrice. L’itinerario letterario che il libro racconta, ripreso su un’utile mappa allegata, consente

di rileggere la città non tanto in senso geografico, ma piuttosto a partire dai riferimenti autobiografici dei testi calviniani. Tre sono le macroaree in cui le tappe – e i relativi pannelli sparsi sul territorio, dotati di piccola mappa, descrizione e QrCode per il rimando digitale – si dividono.

C’è la città, dal centro brulicante con corso Matteotti, i carruggi della Pigna e Villa Meridiana, dove viveva la famiglia Calvino, ma c’è anche la campagna, dalla mulattiera di San Pietro, attraversando il Ponte di Baragallo per arrivare a San Giovanni. Infine, il percorso resistenziale, che porta da Baiardo al Monte Ceppo, giungendo al passo della Mezzaluna,

luoghi vissuti dal giovane Calvino partigiano. Le suggestioni del percorso, leggibili da chiunque passeggiando in città o nel primo entroterra, costituiscono una preziosa risorsa per entrare nella Sanremo ormai invisibile, quella antecedente la Seconda guerra mondiale, e confrontarla con la città di oggi. Sono anche la testimonianza del valore letterario di questo territorio: un insolito invito per accostarsi alla lettura dei testi di Calvino, o per rileggere le sue opere in una chiave nuova e diversa, agganciata ai luoghi che lo scrittore ha lasciato da giovane, ma, tra le righe, non ha mai smesso di raccontare.

A STROLL THROUGH THE SANREMO OF ITALO CALVINO

One hundred years after his birth, Sanremo pays tribute to Italo Calvino with an itinerary that reconstructs the map of the places associated with the author: some autobiographical, others the subject of his writings, some intertwining both dimensions. It is a journey that reveals the link between Calvino's memory and the city where he spent the first twenty years of his life: an unprecedented literary promotion for Sanremo and a valuable resource for tourism, but also, and above all, the fruit of a joint operation that has involved students from various courses of the University of Genoa, from the high schools of Imperia, Sanremo and Ventimiglia, and from the Sanremo Academy of Fine Arts. The result of this in-depth study and collective research is the book “Italo Calvino, Sanremo e dintorni. Un itinerario letterario (1923-2023)”, published by Il Palindromo and edited by Veronica Pesce, professor at the University of Genoa, and journalist and author Laura Guglielmi. The literary itinerary chronicled in the book, shown on a handy map included with it, allows us to interpret the town not so much in a geographical sense, but rather starting from the autobiographical references in Calvino's writings. The stages of

the itinerary - and the relative panels scattered throughout the territory, complete with small map, description and QR Code for digital reference - are divided into three macro-areas. There is the busy town centre, with Corso Matteotti, the “carruggi” of the Pigna area and Villa Meridiana, where the Calvino family lived, and then there is the countryside, from the San Pietro mule track, crossing the Baragallo Bridge to reach San Giovanni. Lastly, there is the Resistance trail, leading from Baiardo to Monte Ceppo, reaching the Mezzaluna pass, places experienced by Calvino as a young partisan.

The suggestions of the route, which can be read by anyone walking around the town or on its immediate hinterland, are a valuable resource for entering the part of Sanremo that is no longer visible, the pre-World War II Sanremo, and comparing it with the town we see today. They are also a testimony to the literary value of this area, an unusual invitation to approach the reading of Calvino's writings, or to reread his works in a new and different key, linked to the places that he left behind as a young man, but never stopped narrating, between the lines.

UNE PROMENADE DANS LA SANREMO D'ITALO CALVINO

Cent ans après sa naissance, Sanremo rend hommage à Italo Calvino avec un parcours qui reconstruit la carte des lieux de l'écrivain : ceux qui sont autobiographiques, ceux qui ont été racontés et ceux qui entremêlent ces deux dimensions. Un voyage qui dévoile le lien entre la mémoire de Calvino et la ville où il a passé ses vingt premières années : une valorisation littéraire inédite pour Sanremo et une ressource touristique précieuse, mais aussi et surtout le fruit d'une collaboration avec des étudiants de différentes facultés de l'Université de Gênes, des lycées d'Imperia, de Sanremo et de Vintimille, ainsi que de l'Académie des Beaux-Arts de Sanremo.

littéraire raconté dans le livre, illustré par une carte utile jointe, permet de relire la ville non pas tant d'un point de vue géographique, mais plutôt à partir des références autobiographiques contenues dans les textes de Calvino. Les scènes et les différents panneaux disséminés sur le territoire, dotés d'une petite carte, d'une description et d'un Code QR pour la référence numérique, sont divisés en trois grandes zones. Il y a la ville, du centre grouillant avec Corso Matteotti, les ruelles de la Pigna et Villa Meridiana, où vivait la famille Calvino, mais il y a aussi la campagne, du chemin muletier de San Pietro, en passant par le pont de Baragallo, jusqu'à San Giovanni. Enfin, il y a le parcours de la Résistance, qui mène de Baiardo à Monte Ceppo, jusqu'au col de Mezzaluna, lieux vécus par le jeune partisan Calvino. Les suggestions du parcours, qui peuvent être lues par toute personne se promenant dans la ville ou dans l'arrière-pays, sont une ressource précieuse pour découvrir la Sanremo invisible d'avant la Seconde Guerre mondiale et la comparer à la ville d'aujourd'hui. Ils témoignent également de la valeur littéraire de cette zone : une invitation inhabituelle à aborder la lecture des textes de Calvino, ou à relire ses œuvres avec un regard nouveau et différent, lié aux lieux que l'écrivain a laissés derrière lui dans sa jeunesse, mais qui, entre les lignes, n'ont jamais cessé d'être racontés.

Limone Piemonte è una delle mete classiche per chi si sposta dalla Riviera dei Fiori, un territorio con cui i contatti sono da sempre coltivati. È prevista per fine anno la riapertura del collegamento del colle di Tenda, mentre attualmente Limone è raggiungibile tramite il colle di Nava o con la spettacolare linea ferroviaria che attraversa il confine tra Italia e Francia. Diverse sono le attività estive a Limone per chi desideri soggiornare in paese scegliendo le varie possibilità, dall’alloggio agli alberghi caratteristici: il passeggio nel centro per un aperitivo, le camminate a piedi o a cavallo alla scoperta dei diversi percorsi, ma anche le attività in quota per scoprire un ambiente incredibile, poi i concerti, la cucina regionale e la spettacolare down-hill per gli amanti della bicicletta. Oggi la via è una strada bianca ex-militare che si snoda lungo lo spartiacque alpino sul confine italo-francese, tra tornanti murati o intagliati nella roccia, in un paesaggio mozzafiato che attraversa parchi naturali e aree protette. Il paesaggio è via via lunare, ricoperto di boschi di conifere e abetaie, e offre panorami aperti dove il mare spicca sempre sullo sfondo, pronto ad accogliere i partecipanti all’arrivo.

Il percorso della Transalp, di circa 95Km, è un'avventura alla portata di tutti grazie all'assistenza medica, meccanica, al servizio di bike sostitutive, al trasporto bagagli e all’accompagnamento delle guide. Transalp è anche compagnia e allegria sia per la possibilità di affrontare il percorso con altri viaggiatori, sia per la convivialità che si crea nei punti di ristoro previsti, all’insegna dell’enogastronomia locale, piemontese e ligure, fino all'arrivo a Sanremo. Limone Piemonte is one of the classic destinations for those travelling from the Riviera dei Fiori, an area with which contacts have always been cultivated. The reopening of the tunnel through the Colle di Tenda is planned for the end of the year. Until then, Limone can be reached via Colle di Nava or by the spectacular railway line that crosses the border between Italy and France.

It starts from the car park at Quota 1400 at 7:30 a.m., arriving with the Cabanaira chairlift at the entrance of the Via del Sale at 2,100 metres, where the Transalp 2023 really begins. This is where the cycling route along the spectacular Via del Sale, which once linked the coast to the inland areas of Piedmont, begins. Today, the route is an ex-military dirt road that winds along the Alpine watershed on the FrenchItalian border, between hairpin bends that are walled in or carved into the rock, in a breathtaking landscape that passes through natural parks and protected areas. The landscape gradually becomes more like a moonscape, covered with coniferous and fir forests, offering open views where the sea always stands out in the background, ready

to welcome the participants at the finish line. The 95-kilometre Transalp route is an adventure within everyone's grasp, thanks to medical and mechanical assistance, replacement bike service, luggage transport and accompanying guides.

Transalp is also synonymous with companionship and cheerfulness, thanks to the opportunity to tackle the route with other travellers and the conviviality created in the refreshment points provided, where local, Piedmontese and Ligurian food and wine are served, until the arrival in Sanremo. The return to Limone is by reserved bus, which takes the cyclists back to the start at Quota 1400.

Aujourd'hui, il s'agit une ancienne route militaire non goudronnée qui serpente le long de la ligne de partage des eaux des Alpes, à la frontière franco-italienne, entre des virages en épingle à cheveux, murés ou taillés dans la roche, dans un paysage à couper le souffle, à travers des parcs naturels et des zones protégées. Le paysage devient progressivement plus lunaire, couvert de

forêts de conifères et de sapins, et offre des panoramas ouverts où la mer se détache toujours en arrière-plan, prête à accueillir les participants sur la ligne d'arrivée.

Le parcours de 95 kilomètres de la Transalp est une aventure à la portée de tous, grâce à l'assistance médicale et mécanique, au service de vélos de remplacement, au transport des bagages et aux guides accompagnateurs.

TOP ULTRA RUNNER DA GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS

Si definiscono ultramaratone tutte quelle gare che superano la lunghezza classica di 42 km, estreme per lunghezza o condizioni, nelle quali i Top Ultra Runner si distinguono per il numero di gare e per ulteriori esperienze di corsa davvero al limite. Michele Graglia, top ultramaratoneta italiano, da anni è noto in questo mondo. La sua storia inizia dall’azienda floricola di famiglia per la quale si sposta in Florida in cerca di nuovi mercati. Lì incontra per caso Irene Marie, titolare di una delle più importanti agenzie americane di model management, che gli propone di posare per lei. Per quattro anni vive un mondo patinato e pieno di eccessi e viene definito da Madonna

“The Abs” (Addome, Braccia, Spalle), data la particolare preparazione fisica. Si accorge però che è una vita che non fa per lui e cerca nuovi sbocchi. Nel 2011 legge il libro che darà il la alla svolta:

“Ultramarathon Man” di Dean Karnazes, storia autobiografica dell’ultramaratoneta americano. Comprate le scarpe, Graglia inizia a correre. Impara presto che non bastano l’aspetto fisico e la preparazione atletica, ma che bisogna usare la testa e che sono determinanti il riposo, l’idratazione e l’alimentazione.

Si specializza in gare estreme dove è necessaria anche la forza di volontà, cosa che non gli manca.

Vince nel 2014 la Milano Sanremo di 285 Km, nel 2016 la Yukon Artic Ultra in Canada, 21 ore di corsa a -40° e 30 Kg di slitta a seguito. A luglio 2018 conquista, anche come primo italiano, la Badwater Ultramarathon di 217 Km nella Valle della Morte in California con punte di temperatura a 54°, nel 2020 vince il Moab 240 di 394 Km in Utah, lungo il percorso del fiume Colorado e tante altre gare straordinarie. Graglia scrive nel

2018 il suo nome nel Guinness World Records attraversando l’intero deserto di Atacama in Cile, di 1.000 Km, in poco più di 9 giorni, e nuovamente nel 2019 per aver attraversato di corsa per primo il deserto del Gobi (Mongolia) in 23 giorni, un percorso di 1703 km. Nella sua vita californiana, Michele è stato anche insegnante di yoga, di mindfulness e trainer per tanti artisti. Recentemente ha scritto, con Folco Terzani, “Ultra, la libertà è oltre il limite” in cui racconta la sua storia e la sua determinazione riassunte in una frase: “Se vuoi, puoi”. Ultramarathon is the definition given to races that exceed the classic length of 42 km, extreme in terms of length or conditions, in which Top Ultramarathon Runners distinguish themselves by the number of races run and by additional experiences of running truly to the limit. Michele Graglia, Italy's top ultramarathon runner, has been well known in this world for years. His story begins in the family flower business, for which he moved to Florida in search of new markets. There, quite by chance, he met Irene Marie, owner of one of the most important American model management agencies, who invited him to model for her. For four years, he lived in a glossy world of excess and was dubbed “The Abs”, due to his perfectly sculpted abdominal muscles, by Madonna. He realised, however, that this wasn't the life for him and began looking for new opportunities. In 2011, he read the book that would mark the turning point: “Ultramarathon Man” by Dean Karnazes, the autobiographical story of the American ultramarathon runner. Graglia went out and bought the shoes and then started running. He soon learned that physical appearance and athletic preparation are not enough, but that he had to use his head, and that rest, hydration and nutrition were crucial. He began specialising in extreme races, where willpower was also required, and which he had in plentiful supply. In 2014, he won the 285 km Milano Sanremo, and in 2016, the Yukon Artic Ultra in Canada, 21 hours of running at -40°C and 30 kg of sled in tow. In July 2018, he was the first Italian to conquer the 217 km Badwater Ultramarathon in California's Death Valley, with temperatures peaking at 54°C. Then in

2020, he won the 394 km Moab 240 in Utah, along the Colorado River, and has also run many other extraordinary races. Les ultra-marathons sont définis comme toutes les courses qui dépassent la longueur classique de 42 km, extrêmes en termes de longueur ou de conditions, dans lesquelles les meilleurs coureurs d'ultra-marathon se distinguent par le nombre de courses et leurs expériences de course jusqu'à la limite. Michele Graglia, le meilleur ultra-marathonien italien, est connu dans ce monde depuis des années. Son histoire commence dans l'entreprise familiale de fleurs, pour laquelle il déménage en Floride à la recherche de nouveaux marchés. C'est là qu'il rencontre par hasard Irene Marie, propriétaire de l'une des plus importantes agences américaines de mannequins, qui lui propose de poser pour elle. Pendant quatre ans, il vit dans un monde de papier glacé plein d'excès et est surnommé par Madonna « The Abs » (Abdomen, Arms, Shoulders, en français Abdomen, Bras, Épaules), en raison de sa préparation physique particulière. Mais il se rend compte que cette vie n'est pas faite pour lui et cherche de nouveaux horizons. En 2011, il lit le livre qui marquera un tournant : « Ultramarathon Man » de Dean Karnazes, le récit autobiographique de l'ultramarathonien américain. Una Riviera sempre più sostenibile, da vivere in bici all’aria aperta, godendo degli straordinari paesaggi naturali che il tracciato della vecchia ferrovia garantisce, tra essenze mediterranee e scorci di mare mozzafiato. È questo il messaggio lanciato con il completamento della “green line”, la pista ciclabile che da Imperia, zona Borgo Prino, conduce oggi in continuità fino a San Lorenzo al Mare. 900 metri interamente sistemati, così come gli spazi verdi attigui, che sono stati presentati lo scorso aprile con un evento inaugurale gremito di ciclisti di ogni età, turisti, residenti, sportivi e semplici amanti delle due ruote. Quattro chilometri, questa la lunghezza dell’intero tratto che unisce oggi Borgo Prino a San Lorenzo al Mare, per poi proseguire fino a Ospedaletti. 28 chilometri di meraviglia dove spostarsi in bicicletta, pattinare, o semplicemente passeggiare lasciando la vista scorrere sull’infinito. È solo un frammento di una rete che sarà presto molto più ampia. Il percorso è infatti un tassello del più esteso progetto della Ciclovia del Ponente, infrastruttura fondamentale in vista dell’ulteriore e più grande progetto della Ciclovia Tirrenica, da Ventimiglia a Roma. In Liguria saranno 436 i chilometri da Marinella di Sarzana al confine con la Francia, 77 i comuni coinvolti e tre le aree protette, tra la costa e l’entroterra. La Giunta Regionale ha intanto approvato la realizzazione del nuovo tratto di ciclabile a ponente, tra Diano Marina, San Bartolomeo al mare e Cervo, che si svilupperà

essenzialmente lungo l’ex sedime ferroviario ceduto da RFI ai tre comuni. I lavori dovrebbero partire a gennaio 2024 per concludersi entro il 2025, coronando un investimento complessivo di oltre 31 milioni di euro (di cui quasi 20 da fondi Pnrr) con un’opera che ridisegnerà il volto del territorio. La pista ciclabile collegherà infatti in continuità quasi tutta la provincia di Imperia. Un’opportunità in più per vivere il territorio al passo con il ritmo lento della splendida natura che lo caratterizza, incentivando una nuova mobilità sostenibile rispettosa del territorio e del benessere di tutti

An increasingly sustainable Riviera, to be experienced while cycling in the open air, enjoying the stunning natural landscapes guaranteed by the route of the old railway line, amidst Mediterranean essences and breathtaking views of the sea. This is the message launched with the completion of the “green line”, the cycle path that now runs from the Borgo Prino area of Imperia to San Lorenzo al Mare. 900 metres have been fully developed, as have the adjoining green areas, which were presented last April at an inaugural event packed with cyclists of all ages, tourists, residents, sports enthusiasts and ordinary bike lovers.

Four kilometres, this is the length of the entire stretch that now joins Borgo Prino to San Lorenzo al Mare, and then continues to Ospedaletti. 28 kilometres of splendour, where one can cycle, skate, or simply go for a walk, admiring the view seemingly endless view. This is just a fragment of a network that will soon be much longer. The route is, in fact, only a piece of the more extensive Ponente Cycle Path project, a fundamental infrastructure in view of the further and larger Tyrrhenian Cycle Path project, from Ventimiglia to Rome. There will be 436 kilometres in the Liguria Region, running from Marinella di Sarzana to the French border, crossing 77 municipalities and three protected areas, between the coast and the hinterland.

In the meantime, the Regional Council has approved the construction of the new stretch of cycle path to the west, between Diano Marina, San Bartolomeo al mare and Cervo, which will run mainly along the former railway, transferred by RFI to the three municipalities. Work is expected to start in January 2024 and be completed by the end of 2025, crowning a total investment of over 31 million euro (almost 20 million of which from RFI funds) with a development that will redesign the face of the territory. The cycle path will link almost the entire province of Imperia without interruption. One more opportunity to experience the territory at the slow pace of the splendid nature that characterises it, encouraging a new sustainable mobility that respects the territory and the wellbeing of all.

Une Riviera de plus en plus durable, à découvrir à vélo, en plein air, en profitant des extraordinaires paysages naturels que le tracé de l'ancienne voie ferrée garantit, au milieu des essences méditerranéennes et des vues à couper le souffle sur la mer. Tel est le message lancé avec l'achèvement de la « green line », la piste cyclable qui, d'Imperia, dans la zone de Borgo Prino, mène désormais en continuité à San Lorenzo al Mare. 900 mètres ont été entièrement aménagés, ainsi que les espaces verts attenants, qui ont été présentés en avril dernier lors de l'inauguration à laquelle ont participé des cyclistes de tous âges, des touristes, des résidents, des sportifs et de simples amateurs de vélo.

Quatre kilomètres, c'est la longueur de tout le tronçon qui relie aujourd'hui Borgo Prino à San Lorenzo al Mare et qui se poursuit jusqu'à Ospedaletti. 28 kilomètres de merveilles où l'on peut pédaler, patiner ou simplement se promener, en laissant la vue s'étendre à l'infini. Il ne s'agit là que d'un fragment d'un réseau qui sera bientôt beaucoup plus vaste. L'itinéraire est en effet un élément du projet plus vaste de la Ciclovia del Ponente, une infrastructure

fondamentale en vue du projet plus vaste de la Ciclovia Tirrenica (piste cyclable tyrrhénienne), qui s'étend de Vintimille à Rome. En Ligurie, il y aura 436 kilomètres de Marinella di Sarzana à la frontière française, 77 communes concernées et trois zones protégées, entre la côte et l'arrière-pays. Una charity Marathon a sostegno dei cetacei: il 17 giugno 2023 Sanremo dedicherà una giornata a favore di balene e delfini del nostro mare con la nuova edizione della Run for the Whales. Non tutti sanno che la Città dei Fiori è il punto di partenza più importante per le escursioni di Whale watching nel Santuario Pelagos. Il Santuario Pelagos è un'area marina protetta internazionale di 87.500 km², istituita nel 1999 tra Francia, Italia e Principato di Monaco per tutelare un vasto tratto di mare caratterizzato da un'elevata concentrazione di mammiferi marini, conseguenza all'abbondanza di cibo. Ben otto specie vivono nell’area del Santuario, fra queste spicca la balenottera comune, il secondo cetaceo più grande del mondo con oltre 20 metri di lunghezza e 60 tonnellate di peso. Ed è proprio allo scopo di fare conoscere, tutelare il Santuario

Pelagos e valorizzare il suo potenziale turistico che si svolge ogni anno la Run for the Whales. Tre le gare in programma: una mezza maratona competitiva di 21 km per i runner, una 10 km non competitiva e una camminata di 3 km aperta a tutti lungo la pista ciclo-pedonale di Sanremo. La Run for the Whales è stata ideata nel 2016 a favore dell'Istituto Tethys Onlus, associazione nata nel 1986 per lo studio e la protezione dei mammiferi marini del Mediterraneo. Tethys ha partecipato alla creazione del Santuario Pelagos e da anni si impegna per la sua tutela e conservazione, ottenendo risultati importanti. Sono centinaia le pubblicazioni scientifiche dell’Istituto, che ne attestano la professionalità nella ricerca e lo qualificano tra le più note e autorevoli istituzioni del settore.

RUN FOR THE WHALES 2023

A Charity Marathon in support of cetaceans: on 17 June 2023, Sanremo dedicates a day in favour of the whales and dolphins that populate our sea, with the new edition of the Run for the Whales. Not everyone knows that the City of Flowers is the most important starting point for whale watching excursions in the Pelagos Sanctuary.

The Pelagos Sanctuary is an international protected marine area of 87,500 km², created in 1999 between France, Italy and the Principality of Monaco to protect a vast stretch of sea characterised by a high concentration of marine mammals as a consequence of the abundance of food. As many as eight species live in the Sanctuary area, including the fin whale, the second largest cetacean in the world at over 20 metres long and 60 tonnes in weight. And it is precisely with the aim of publicising and protecting the Pelagos Sanctuary and

enhancing its tourist potential that the Run for the Whales takes place every year. The programme features three races: a 21 km competitive half-marathon for runners, a non-competitive 10 km and a 3 km walk open to everyone along Sanremo's cyclepedestrian path. The Run for the Whales was launched in 2016 in favour of the nonprofit Tethys Institute, an association founded in 1986 for the study and protection of marine mammals in the Mediterranean. Tethys participated in the creation of the Pelagos Sanctuary and has been committed to its protection and conservation for years, achieving important results. The Institute's scientific publications number in the hundreds, attesting to its professionalism in research and qualifying it among the bestknown and most authoritative institutions in the sector. Un marathon caritatif en faveur des cétacés : le 17 juin 2023, Sanremo consacrera une journée en faveur des baleines et des dauphins de notre mer avec la nouvelle édition de Run for the Whales. Tout le monde ne sait pas que la ville des fleurs est le point de départ le plus important pour les excursions d'observation des baleines dans le Sanctuaire Pelagos. Le Sanctuaire Pelagos est une aire marine protégée internationale de 87 500 km², établie en 1999 entre la France, l'Italie et la Principauté de Monaco pour protéger une vaste étendue de mer caractérisée par une forte concentration de mammifères marins en raison de l'abondance de nourriture. Pas moins de huit espèces vivent dans la zone du sanctuaire, dont le rorqual commun, le deuxième plus grand cétacé au monde avec plus de 20 mètres de long et 60 tonnes. C'est précisément dans le but de faire connaître et de protéger le Sanctuaire Pelagos et de renforcer son

potentiel touristique que se déroule chaque année « Run for the Whales » (Course pour les baleines). Trois courses sont au programme : un semi-marathon compétitif de 21 km pour les coureurs, un parcours non compétitif de 10 km et une marche de 3 km ouverte à tous le long de la piste cyclable et piétonne de Sanremo. Run for the Whales a été créée en 2016 en faveur de l'Institut Tethys Onlus, une association fondée en 1986 pour l'étude et la protection des mammifères marins en Méditerranée. Tethys a participé à la création du Sanctuaire Pelagos et s'engage depuis des années pour sa protection et sa conservation, obtenant d'importants résultats. Les centaines de publications scientifiques de l'Institut témoignent de son professionnalisme en matière de recherche et en font l'une des institutions les plus connues et faisant le plus autorité dans ce domaine.

ALLA SCOPERTA DELL’ATM DI

L’Area di Tutela Marina (ATM) di Capo Mortola è la parte a mare dei Giardini Botanici Hanbury a Ventimiglia e include, indicativamente, la fascia compresa da Via Balzi Rossi al confine con la Francia, fino alla baia di Latte, per circa 1,3 km verso il largo. Per la sua bellezza e per la ricchezza di biodiversità, la zona è intensamente vissuta durante la stagione estiva da tantissime imbarcazioni e da chi ama andare alla scoperta del mondo che si nasconde sotto il pelo dell’acqua.

Per accompagnare i visitatori alla scoperta di questo autentico tesoro sommerso, da circa quattro anni è nata una collaborazione tra i Giardini Botanici Hanbury e l’Associazione sportiva dilettantistica (ASD) Pianeta Blu che organizza gite guidate in canoa e snorkeling nell’area di Capo Mortola, un approccio nuovo e diverso per vivere il mare e avvicinarsi a un tratto di costa incontaminato scoprendone bellezze, natura e storia.

Chi partecipa a una delle gite organizzate da Pianeta Blu, non prende parte solo a un’attività sportiva, ma si “immerge” dentro la natura in uno dei Giardini Botanici più belli d’Italia, si rilassa all’ombra dei pini marittimi nella zona del Bar dei Giardini e prosegue, magari pagaiando in mare, alla scoperta dei fondali e delle insenature che caratterizzano la zona di confine.

Per partecipare a una delle attività è possibile acquistare il biglietto all’ingresso, che dà diritto sia alla gita in canoa che alla visita agli stupendi Giardini Botanici Hanbury, da effettuare primo o dopo il tour in mare. Da metà giugno a fine settembre gli orari possibili sono due: al mattino alle ore 9:30 e al pomeriggio alle 13:30.

Le attività sono pensate per tutta la famiglia e prevedono la possibilità di pagaiare, ma anche di tuffarsi nel blu di Capo Mortola o di riposarsi sulla spiaggia. Il tutto, come nelle intenzioni dell’Associazione, creando meno impatto possibile sull’ambiente circostante.

Oltre a vivere scenari unici e inaspettati, i partecipanti potranno scoprire da un punto di vista privilegiato la Posidonia Oceanica, una pianta acquatica fondamentale per il Mediterraneo, che ha trovato nei fondali di Capo Mortola un habitat ideale, ma potrà anche camminare sulla Via Julia Augusta costruita dall’imperatore romano Augusto nel 13-12 a.C e ancora visibile all’interno di Giardini.

Pianeta Blu organizza anche campagne di sensibilizzazione sulle microplastiche disperse in mare e sull’importanza del riciclo, per questo in occasione delle uscite in mare vengono spesso raccolte le plastiche abbandonate sulla spiaggia.

The Capo Mortola Marine Reserve (ATM) is the part of the Hanbury Botanical Gardens in Ventimiglia that extends into the sea and roughly includes the area that extends, from Via Balzi Rossi on the border with France to the bay in front of Latte, about 1.3 km out to sea.

Its beauty and wealth of biodiversity bring crowds of visitors to the area in summer who arrive on yachts and boats, many of whom come to explore the world that hides beneath the surface of the water.

To accompany visitors on their exploration of this genuine underwater treasure, a collaboration between the Hanbury Botanical Gardens and the Pianeta Blu amateur sports association has been in place for about four years. Pianeta Blu organises guided canoe and snorkelling trips in the Capo Mortola area, for a new and different approach to experiencing the sea and discovering an unspoilt stretch of coastline characterised by beauty, nature and history.

People taking part in one of the trips organised by Pianeta Blu are not only taking part in a sporting activity but are also “immersing” themselves in nature in one of Italy's most beautiful Botanical Gardens, relaxing in the shade of the maritime pines

in the Bar dei Giardini area and continuing, perhaps canoeing in the sea, to discover the seabed and the inlets that characterise the border area.To participate in one of the activities, purchase a ticket at the entrance. This entitles you to take part in the canoe trip and visit the beautiful Hanbury Botanical Gardens, either before or after the sea tour. There are two daily time slots available from mid-June to the end of September: 9:30 in the morning and 1:30 in the afternoon. The activities are designed for the whole family and include the option of canoeing and also diving into the blue waters of Capo Mortola or relaxing on the beach. All this, in keeping with the Association's intentions, while creating as little impact as possible on the surrounding environment.

Besides experiencing unique and unexpected scenarios, participants can discover Posidonia Oceanica, an aquatic plant which essential for the Mediterranean Sea and has found an ideal habitat on the seabed of Capo Mortola, from a privileged vantage point. They can also walk along the Via Julia Augusta built by the Roman emperor Augustus in 13-12 BC and still visible in the Gardens.

À LA DÉCOUVERTE DE L'AMP DE CAPO MORTOLA

L'Aire Marine Protégée (AMP) de Capo Mortola est la partie maritime des Jardins botaniques Hanbury de Vintimille et comprend, en gros, la bande allant de la Via Balzi Rossi, à la frontière avec la France, à la baie de Latte, sur une distance d'environ 1,3 km en mer. En raison de sa beauté et de sa riche biodiversité, la zone est très fréquentée pendant la saison estivale par de nombreux bateaux et par ceux qui aiment explorer le monde qui se cache sous la surface de l'eau.

Afin d'aider les visiteurs à découvrir cet authentique trésor sous-marin, une collaboration entre les jardins botaniques Hanbury et l'Associazione Sportiva Amato (ASD) Pianeta Blu a été mise en place depuis environ quatre ans. Pianeta Blu organise des excursions guidées en canoë et en plongée libre dans la zone de Capo Mortola, une approche nouvelle et différente de la mer et de l'approche d'un littoral intact, tout en découvrant sa beauté, sa nature et son histoire.

Les personnes qui participent à l'une des excursions organisées par Pianeta Blu ne se contentent pas de pratiquer une activité sportive, mais s'immergent dans la nature

dans l'un des plus beaux jardins botaniques d'Italie, se détendent à l'ombre des pins maritimes dans la zone du Bar dei Giardini et continuent, éventuellement en pagayant dans la mer, à découvrir les fonds marins et les criques qui caractérisent la zone. Pour participer à l'une de ces activités, vous pouvez acheter un billet à l'entrée, qui vous donne droit à la fois à l'excursion en canoë et à la visite du magnifique jardin botanique de Hanbury, à effectuer avant ou après la visite en mer. De mi-juin à fin septembre, deux horaires sont possibles : le matin à 9h30 et l'après-midi à 13h30.

Les activités sont pensées pour toute la famille et comprennent la possibilité de pagayer, mais aussi de plonger dans le bleu de Capo Mortola ou de se détendre sur la plage. Tout cela, comme le veut l'association, avec le moins d'impact possible sur l'environnement.

Outre les paysages uniques et surprenants, les participants pourront découvrir d'un point de vue privilégié la Posidonia Oceanica, une plante aquatique essentielle à la Méditerranée, qui a trouvé un habitat idéal dans les fonds marins de Capo Mortola, et se promener sur la Via Julia Augusta, construite par l'empereur romain Auguste en 13-12 avant J.-C. et toujours visible dans les Giardini.

Portosole is Sanremo's business card for those arriving from the sea. Located in the heart of the Città dei Fiori, it is one of the largest and most prestigious marinas in the Mediterranean, the habitual base of numerous private mega yachts or those used for luxury charter service.

Berths range from medium-large boats to yachts of up to 90 metres in length, while the depths range from 2.5 to 7 metres. ISO 14001 certification is held in terms of the management of the marina and accompanying facilities, which are of benefit to the pleasure harbour: 24-hour mooring assistance, night security, a fuel station, toilets and showers, water and electricity sockets, quayside lighting, fire-fighting equipment, grey water drainage, car parking and car wash, free wi-fi, boatyards and a tobacconist.

Portosole is also home to the Permare Group, which produces the Amer Yachts line, synonymous with quality and customisation in the boat and ship building sector. Not to mention the fact that Portosole has been

Mercedes è uno dei marchi automobilistici più noti al mondo, ma pochi sanno che la sua storia inizia in Costa Azzurra con Emil Jellinek, oltre 120 anni fa. Nato a Lipsia nel 1853, Jellinek cresce a Vienna, a 17 anni trova lavoro in un’azienda ferroviaria, ma è licenziato a causa delle corse clandestine di treni che organizzava di notte. Nel 1872 si trasferisce in Francia, paese da cui inizia una carriera diplomatica prima in Algeria, poi in Marocco.

Torna a Vienna nel 1882, si sposa e intanto lavora nel campo assicurativo, accumulando una fortuna. Nascono i primi due figli Adolph e Fernand e nel 1889 la figlia Maria de La Mercedes, che diventerà sua prediletta. Per passare l’inverno in climi più miti, Jellinek acquista una casa a Nizza e dopo qualche tempo vi si trasferisce. Entra qui in contatto con il mondo dell’aristocrazia e degli uomini d’affari e si appassiona alle autovetture. Dopo qualche esperienza con veicoli a tre ruote e con motore a vapore, acquista una Benz con quattro ruote e motore a scoppio e inizia il commercio delle automobili. Siamo nel 1896, durante una visita agli stabilimenti DMG (Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft), conosce i fondatori Gottlieb Daimler e Wilhelm Maybach. Due anni dopo diventerà rivenditore ufficiale di DMG in Francia. La passione per le corse si sposa con il suo nuovo lavoro: Jellinek

non si perde una della gare organizzate in Costa Azzurra, alle quali partecipa con i modelli DMG. Come portafortuna per la scuderia e le sue auto usa il nome della figlia: Mercedes.

All’inizio del 1900 muore Gottlieb Daimler e qualche mese dopo, in una corsa in salita Nice-La Turbie, muore il pilota Wilhelm Bauer, che guidava una Daimler-Phoenix da gara. La DMG pensa così di ritirarsi dalle corse, ma Jellinek convince l’azienda a progettare una vettura molto diversa, più competitiva e chiamata Mercedes. Mette sul tavolo 550.000 marchi, si impegna ad acquistare 36 vetture subito e altrettante successivamente, portando così gli stabilimenti di Cannstatt (Stoccarda) al limite della produzione. È la svolta.

In pochi mesi, Maybach crea un capolavoro. Il 22 dicembre 1900 DMG consegna a Jellinek la Daimler-Mercedes 35PS che, da quel momento, macinerà successi e record: con il suo baricentro basso, il telaio in acciaio stampato, un motore leggero ma potente e il radiatore a nido d'ape, sarà riconosciuta come la prima automobile moderna. Iniziava così “l’era del Mercedes”, dal 1902 marchio registrato, e dal 1926 nome esteso a tutta la produzione.

MERCEDES, THE NAME OF THE TURNING POINT

Mercedes is one of the world's best-known car manufacturers, but few know that its story began on the French Riviera with Emil Jellinek, over 120 years ago. Born in Leipzig in 1853, Jellinek grew up in Vienna. At the age of 17, he was given a job by a railway company, but was fired because of the clandestine train races he organised at night. In 1872, he moved to France, where he began a diplomatic career first in Algeria, then Morocco. He returned to Vienna in 1882, where he got married. Meanwhile, he worked in the insurance business, building up a fortune. His first two sons, Adolph and Fernand, were born, followed in 1889 by his daughter Maria de La Mercedes, who was to become his favourite. In order to spend the winter in milder climes, Jellinek bought a house in Nice and moved there after a while. In Nice, he came into contact with the world of aristocrats and businessmen, developing a passion for cars. After some experience with three-wheeled and steam-engine vehicles, he bought a Benz with four wheels and an internal combustion engine, and started selling cars. In 1896, during a visit to the DMG (Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft) factory, he met the founders, Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach. Two years later, he became DMG's official dealer in France. His passion for racing matched his new job: Jellinek never missed a single one of the races organised on the Côte d'Azur, in which he participated with DMG cars. As a good luck charm for the racing stable and his cars he used his daughter's name: Mercedes. Gottlieb Daimler died at the beginning of the 20th century and, a few months later, the driver Wilhelm Bauer, who was driving a DaimlerPhoenix racing car, died in an uphill race at Nice-La Turbie. DMG thought about retiring from racing, but Jellinek convinced the company to design a very different, more competitive car, the Mercedes. He put 550,000 DM on the table and committed to buying 36 cars immediately and the same number later, taking the Cannstatt (Stuttgart) plants to the limit of production. This was the turning point. Within just a few months, Maybach created a masterpiece. On the 22nd of December 1900, DMG delivered the Daimler-Mercedes 35PS

to Jellinek, who began churning out successes and records from that moment on. With its low centre of gravity, moulded steel chassis, light but powerful engine and honeycomb radiator, it was acknowledged as the first modern car. And so began the “era of the Mercedes”, a registered trademark from 1902, extending the name to all production from 1926. Emil Jellinek rests next to his first wife Rachel, in the Cimetière du Château in Nice, overlooking the Baie des Anges.

En 1896, lors d'une visite à l'usine DMG (Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft), il rencontre les fondateurs Gottlieb Daimler et Wilhelm Maybach. Deux ans plus tard, il devient le concessionnaire officiel de DMG en France. Sa passion pour la course automobile va de pair avec son nouveau travail : Jellinek ne manque aucune des courses organisées sur la Côte d'Azur, auxquelles il participe avec les modèles DMG. En guise de porte-bonheur pour l'écurie et ses voitures, il utilise le prénom de sa fille : Mercedes. Au début de l'année 1900, Gottlieb Daimler meurt et quelques mois plus tard, lors d'une course de côte Nice-La Turbie, le pilote Wilhelm Bauer, qui conduisait une voiture de course Daimler-Phoenix, décède. DMG envisage de se retirer de la compétition, mais Jellinek convainc l'entreprise de concevoir une voiture très différente et plus compétitive, la Mercedes. Per rievocare le grandi opere che hanno contrassegnato la vita del Principe Ranieri III, a 100 anni dalla sua nascita il Principato di Monaco si è fatto bello, esponendo la sua effige su bandiere e striscioni che sventoleranno in tutta la città fino a fine anno, nell’ambito di un fitto calendario iniziato con la grande festa popolare del 31 maggio sulla Piazza del Palazzo, dove il Principe Ranieri III era di casa. Ranieri III si è dedicato con passione a rendere ancora più internazionale il suo regno: il Principe “costruttore”, così è ricordato nel corso di varie iniziative coordinate dal Comité de Commémoration du Prince Rainier III presieduto da SAS la Principessa Stéphanie, sua ultima figlia. Tre aspetti hanno contraddistinto la sua vita e il suo regno e saranno ricordati dalle celebrazioni. Lo si vedrà innanzitutto in immagini, anche inedite, mentre "lavora" nel palazzo, circondato dai suoi collaboratori. È in questo luogo di sovranità che sono ricevuti ospiti illustri, si svolgono i principali atti della vita politica monegasca e si perpetua la tradizione del mecenatismo artistico. Ma ci sarà anche l'uomo Ranieri, le cui diverse abitazioni corrispondono a diverse età: il Palazzo di Monaco dove è nato e cresciuto; la villa "Iberia" a Saint-Jean-CapFerrat, dove, non sposato, ha soggiornato fino al matrimonio con Grace Kelly; la casa di campagna sulle alture, a Roc Agel, e infine il castello di Marchais, residenza storica dei Grimaldi dal 1854, rifugio di tutta una vita. Le passioni del Principe saranno illustrate con incontri e appuntamenti alla scoperta di aspetti personali o dietro le quinte della sua vita, come i momenti in cui lasciava l'uniforme per indossare il camice d’artista e ritirarsi nel suo laboratorio a modellare sculture in ferro battuto.

Infine, la rievocazione di grandi eventi che hanno contrassegnato il regno di Ranieri III dalla fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale fino alla proclamazione di una nuova costituzione, passando per i grandi incontri pubblici, da sempre molto sentiti dai monegaschi.

La retrospettiva su Ranieri III proseguirà fino a gennaio 2024: il momento culminante è previsto in occasione del Festival Internazionale del Circo di Monte-Carlo, fondato dallo stesso sovrano e di cui di cui si festeggiano nel 2023 i 50 anni. Ranieri III

1923-2023 CENTENARY OF PRINCE RAINIER III

To commemorate the great deeds that marked the life of Prince Rainier III, 100 years after his birth, the Principality of Monaco has dressed itself up with flags and banners featuring pictures of the Prince, to be flown throughout the city until the end of the year, as part of a busy calendar that began with the big popular celebration held on the 31s of May in the Palace Square, where Prince Rainier III used to live.

Rainier III devoted himself wholeheartedly to making his reign even more international: the “builder” Prince, as he is remembered by the various initiatives coordinated by the Comité de Commémoration du Prince Rainier III chaired by HRH Princess Stéphanie, his youngest daughter. Three aspects characterised his life and reign and they will be commemorated during the celebrations. Firstly, he will be seen in images, some of which have never been seen before, as he “works” in the palace, surrounded by his staff. It is in this place of sovereignty that illustrious guests are received, the main acts of Monegasque political life take place and the tradition of artistic patronage is perpetuated.

But there will also be Ranieri the man, whose different residences correspond to different ages: the Palace of Monaco, where he was born and grew up; Villa “Iberia” in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, where he lived as a bachelor until his marriage to Grace Kelly; the country house on the hills, in Roc Agel, and last but not least, Marchais Castle, the Grimaldis' historic residence since 1854, his lifelong retreat. The Prince's passions will be illustrated with meetings and appointments to discover personal and behind-the-scenes aspects of his life, such as the moments when he abandoned his uniform to put on his artist's smock and withdraw to his workshop to mould wrought-iron sculptures. Lastly, major events that marked the reign of Rainier III from the end of the Second World War to the proclamation of a new constitution, via the great public gatherings that have always been very dear to the hearts of the Monegasque people, will be re-enacted.

The retrospective on Rainier III will continue until January 2024: the highlight will be the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival, founded by the sovereign himself, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023. To discover all the centenary events, visit the website centenairerainier3.mc.

Le Prince Rainier III s'est consacré ardemment à rendre son règne encore plus international : le Prince « bâtisseur », c'est ainsi qu'on se souvient de lui lors de diverses initiatives coordonnées par le Comité de Commémoration du Prince Rainier III présidé par SAS la Princesse Stéphanie, sa fille cadette. Trois aspects ont caractérisé sa vie et son règne et seront rappelés par les célébrations. Tout d'abord, il sera vu en images, dont certaines inédites, alors qu'il "travaille" au palais, entouré de son personnel. C'est dans ce lieu de souveraineté que sont reçus les hôtes illustres, que se déroulent les principaux actes de la vie politique monégasque et que se perpétue la tradition du mécénat artistique. Mais il y aura aussi l'homme, dont les différentes demeures correspondent à différents âges : le Palais de Monaco où il est né et a grandi ; la villa « Iberia » à Saint-JeanCap-Ferrat où, célibataire, il est resté jusqu'à son mariage avec Grace Kelly ; la maison de campagne sur les hauteurs, à Roc Agel, et enfin le Château de Marchais, résidence historique des Grimaldi depuis 1854, le refuge de toute une vie. Les passions du Prince seront illustrées par des rencontres et des rendez-vous permettant de découvrir des aspects personnels ou des coulisses de sa vie, comme les moments où il quittait son uniforme pour revêtir sa blouse d'artiste et se retirer dans son atelier pour réaliser des sculptures en fer forgé.

Enfin, la reconstitution des grands événements qui ont marqué le règne de Rainier III, de la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale à la proclamation d'une nouvelle constitution, en passant par les grands rassemblements publics qui ont toujours été très ressentis par les Monégasques.

La rétrospective sur Rainier III se poursuivra jusqu'en janvier 2024, avec comme point d'orgue le Festival international du cirque de Monte-Carlo, fondé par le souverain lui-même et dont le 50e anniversaire sera célébré en 2023. PREMIO SPECIALE VITICOLTRICE DELL’ANNO PER

Negli ultimi anni la Liguria ha scalato tutte le classifiche di merito in campo vinicolo. Crescono infatti la produzione e l’esportazione del vino nel nome della qualità, segno che una tradizione millenaria è nuovamente riconosciuta. Protagonisti di questo successo sono i viticoltori, le persone che stanno in vigna e in cantina. Giovanna Maccario con la sua azienda Maccario Dringenberg a San Biagio della Cima, val Verbone, entroterra di Vallecrosia in provincia di Imperia, è una di loro. Tra oltre 200.000 aziende vitivinicole italiane si è infatti distinta come Viticoltrice dell’anno per la prestigiosa testata “Gambero Rosso”. Giovanna è figlia d’arte: ha studiato architettura, acquisendo uno sguardo particolare per le pietre e le sue terrazze, il cielo e la terra. Sono questi i suoi elementi: li ritroviamo nelle bottiglie dell’azienda che conduce con il marito Goetz Dringenberg. Il radicamento territoriale si esprime nel Rossese di Dolceacqua o, semplicemente, Dolceacqua. Un vino che nasce da un territorio impervio, domato dall’uomo con terrazzamenti estremi. Rossese qui vuol dire lavoro e uno sguardo sempre in pendenza: si sale o si scende, non ci sono sconti. Rossese è Liguria verticale, è mare visto da

lontano, è anfiteatri di pietra punteggiati di verde e di grappoli scuri a maturazione. Questo è lo scenario dietro al lavoro di Giovanna Maccario, un lavoro tenace e continuo, che esalta le sue caratteristiche fisiche e mentali. La troverete tra le pietre e le viti, con gli occhi vivissimi che scrutano le piante e la terra, che osservano il cielo e il mare là, lontano ma non troppo, accompagnata dal suo inseparabile cane Amiral.

Giovanna parla con i suoi silenzi e le sue improvvise vive osservazioni. Il vino che offre è un racconto territoriale, legato di volta in volta alle sue vigne, citate in etichetta come menzione geografica aggiuntiva (i crus per la Francia, le nomeranze per il mercato): Luvaira, Posaù, Curli, Brae, Sette Cammini. In più lavora anche la Massarda, vitigno locale che tutela, coltivandolo.

In sede ufficiale di degustazione, Giovanna arriva con l’eleganza che le è propria, anche con un semplice blazer scuro. Un’eleganza che deriva dal continuo lavorare nei suoi “teatri vitati”. Mostra così una proprietà di linguaggio e una capacità di descrizione che sussurrano, proprio come accompagnano, con finezza, varietà e infine potenza, i suoi vini.

SPECIAL AWARD FOR WINEMAKER OF THE YEAR

In recent years, Liguria has scaled all the rankings of merit in the wine world. Winemaking and exports are growing in the name of quality, indicating that a thousandyear-old tradition is once again being acknowledged.

The key players in this success are the winegrowers, the people in the vineyard and in the cellar. With her Maccario Dringenberg company in San Biagio della Cima, Val Verbone, inland from Vallecrosia in the province of Imperia, Giovanna Maccario is one of them. Among more than 200,000 Italian wineries, she has in fact been distinguished as Winemaker of the Year by the prestigious “Gambero Rosso” magazine. Giovanna comes from a family of winemakers: she studied architecture, acquiring a special eye for stone and its terraces, the sky and the earth. These are her elements: we find them in the wines of the estate she runs with her husband Goetz Dringenberg.

Her territorial roots are expressed in the Rossese di Dolceacqua, known simply as Dolceacqua. A wine that originates in an impervious territory, tamed by man with extreme terracing. Rossese here means hard work and an ever-sloping eye: either

up or down, without exception. Rossese is vertical Liguria, it is the sea seen from afar, it is stone amphitheatres dotted with green vegetation and dark ripening bunches. This is the scenery behind Giovanna Maccario's tenacious and continuous work, which enhances her physical and psychological attributes. You will find her among the stones and vines, her bright eyes scanning the vines and the soil, watching the sky and the sea there, distant but not too distant, in the company of her inseparable dog Amiral. Giovanna speaks with her silences and her sudden, lively observations. The wine she offers is a territorial story, linked to her vineyards, mentioned on the label as an additional geographical mention (the crus for France, the names for the market): Luvaira, Posaù, Curli, Brae, Sette Cammini. She also cultivates Massarda, a local grape variety which she protects by growing it. Giovanna arrives at the official wine-tasting event with her characteristic elegance, wearing a simple, dark-coloured blazer. An elegance that stems from working continuously in her “vineyard theatres”. She displays a linguistic flair and a descriptive skill that whisper the stories of her wines with finesse, variety and power.

Ces dernières années, la Ligurie a gravi tous les échelons du classement des vins. En effet, la production et les exportations de vin augmentent au nom de la qualité, signe qu'une tradition millénaire est à nouveau reconnue.

Les protagonistes de ce succès sont les viticulteurs, les gens qui travaillent dans les vignes et dans les caves. Giovanna Maccario, avec son domaine Maccario Dringenberg à San Biagio della Cima, dans le Val Verbone, à l'intérieur des terres de Vallecrosia, dans la province d'Imperia, est l'une d'entre elles. Parmi plus de 200 000 caves italiennes, elle a d'ailleurs été distinguée comme viticultrice de l'année par la prestigieuse revue « Gambero Rosso ». Giovanna est une enfant de l'art : elle a étudié l'architecture, acquérant un œil particulier pour la pierre et ses terrasses, le ciel et la terre. Le Rossese di Dolceacqua ou, plus simplement, Dolceacqua, reflète pleinement cet enracinement dans le territoire. Un vin qui provient d'un territoire imperméable, dompté par l'homme grâce à un terrassement extrême. Rossese est ici synonyme de travail et de regard toujours en pente : on monte ou on descend, on n'a pas le choix Rossese, c'est la Ligurie verticale, c'est la mer vue de loin, ce sont des amphithéâtres de pierre parsemés de vert et de grappes de raisin qui mûrissent. C'est le décor dans lequel Giovanna Maccario travaille, un travail tenace et continu qui met en valeur ses caractéristiques physiques et mentales. Vous la trouverez parmi les pierres et les vignes, ses yeux vifs scrutant les plantes et la terre, regardant le ciel et la mer là-bas, loin mais pas trop, accompagnée de son inséparable

chien Amiral. Giovanna parle avec ses silences et ses observations soudaines et pleines de vie. Le vin qu'elle propose est un récit du territoire, lié de temps en temps à ses vignobles, mentionnés sur l'étiquette comme une mention géographique supplémentaire (les crus pour la France, les « nomeranze » pour le marché ligurien) : Luvaira, Posaù, Curli, Brae, Sette Cammini. Le domaine travaille également avec le Massarda, un cépage local qu'il protège en le cultivant.

Lors de la dégustation officielle, Giovanna arrive avec l'élégance qui la caractérise, même dans un simple blazer sombre. Une élégance qui découle du travail continu dans ses « théâtres de vignobles ».

Elle fait ainsi preuve d'une propriété du langage et d'une capacité de description qui chuchotent, tout comme elles accompagnent, avec délicatesse, variété et enfin puissance, ses vins.

Dal locale al globale, mantenendo una filosofia dal doppio sguardo: oggi movimento internazionale, Slow Food nasce nel 1986 da un’idea di Carlo Petrini per promuovere il diritto al piacere e al cibo buono, pulito e giusto per tutti. Un movimento fatto sul territorio, con condotte e comunità locali organizzate in reti, oggi un network mondiale che può vantare oltre diecimila progetti realizzati su 160 paesi, con un milione di attivisti al seguito. Delle 1500 condotte e oltre 100 comunità nel mondo, impegnate a portare avanti i valori e la filosofia dell’associazione, numerose sono quelle liguri e piemontesi che propongono itinerari gastronomici, incontri, corsi di educazione al gusto e visite ai produttori, nonché supporto ai mercati contadini, in sinergia con gli

obiettivi generali. Una filosofia rivolta al benessere, che guarda alla ricerca della felicità per tutti e al rispetto per gli ecosistemi. “Buono, pulito e giusto”, questo non a casa il motto che Slow Food ha fatto suo, nonché il titolo del libro edito da Einaudi nel 2005 dove Carlo Petrini pone le basi per un nuovo modo di guardare al sistema di produzione alimentare, legandolo all’attenzione per la biodiversità, da usare e quindi, conseguentemente, difendere. In questa direzione operano la Fondazione Slow Food per la Biodiversità Onlus nata nel 2003 per sostenere i Presìdi Slow Food sui territori e l’Arca del Gusto: ridare valore al cibo, nel rispetto per i produttori e per i saperi che, in armonia con l’ambiente, portano avanti tradizioni sui territori. Contadini, ristoratori, produttori, ma

anche cuochi sono tra gli interlocutori del movimento. Dall’altro lato c’è la società, da sensibilizzare sui temi cari a Slow Food con i noti eventi internazionali dedicati al cibo e al gusto: Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, Slow Fish, Cheese e Slow Wine Fair, ma anche con l’istituzione della prima Università di Scienze Gastronomiche, a Pollenzo in provincia di Cuneo.

Convivialità e terra, storia e cultura locali, sostenibilità e gusto: tutte queste istanze si intrecciano nel pensiero che Slow Food ha costruito negli anni agendo sui territori e tra le persone, e arrivando a riconoscimenti decisivi come, per esempio, quello della Fao. Dai contadini all’opinione pubblica, dalla tavola ai grandi mercati, nella convinzione che le piccole azioni locali possono avere ripercussioni mondiali

GOOD, CLEAN AND FAIR THE SLOW FOOD PHILOSOPHY

From local to global, maintaining a two-fold philosophy: now an international movement, Slow Food was born in 1986 on the basis of Carlo Petrini's idea for promoting the right to pleasure and good, clean and fair food for all. A movement built on the territory, with local convivia and communities organised into networks, which has become a worldwide organisation that can boast over ten thousand projects implemented in 160 countries, supported by a million activists. Of the 1,500 convivia and more than 100 communities around the world committed to pursuing the association's values and philosophy, there are many in Liguria and Piedmont that offer gastronomic itineraries, meetings, taste education courses and visits to producers, as well as support for farmers' markets, in keeping with the association's general goals.

A philosophy aimed at wellbeing, focusing on the pursuit of happiness for all and respect for our ecosystems. It is no coincidence that “Good, clean and fair” is the motto that Slow Food has made its own

as well as the title of the book published by Einaudi in 2005, in which Carlo Petrini lays the foundations for a new way of looking at the food production system, linking it to attention to biodiversity, to be used and, consequently, defended. The non-profit organisation Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity, founded in 2003 to support the Slow Food Presidia in their territories, and the Ark of Taste both work in this direction: to restore value to food, with respect for the producers and for the knowledge which, in harmony with the environment, carry on traditions in their territories.

Farmers, restaurateurs and producers, but also chefs, are among the movement's stakeholders. On the other hand, we have society, which must be made aware of the issues dear to Slow Food, with the wellknown international events dedicated to food and taste - Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, Slow Fish, Cheese and Slow Wine Fair - but also with the establishment of the first University of Gastronomic Sciences, in Pollenzo in the province of Cuneo. Conviviality and the land, local history and culture, sustainability and taste: all these aspects are interwoven in the thinking developed by Slow Food over the years, acting in the territories and among people, while achieving significant acknowledgements such as that of the FAO. From farmers to public opinion, from the table to large markets, with the conviction that small actions at local level can have global repercussions.

Du local au mondial, en conservant une double philosophie : aujourd'hui mouvement international, Slow Food est né en 1986 d'une idée de Carlo Petrini pour promouvoir le droit au plaisir et à une alimentation bonne, propre et juste pour tous. Un mouvement qui naît sur le terrain, avec des communautés et des conviviums locaux organisés en réseaux, aujourd'hui un réseau mondial qui peut s'enorgueillir de plus de dix mille projets mis en œuvre dans 160 pays, avec un million d'activistes à la clé. Parmi les 1 500 conviviums et plus de 100 communautés dans le monde, engagés à transmettre les valeurs et la philosophie de l'association, nombreux sont ceux qui, en Ligurie et dans le Piémont, proposent des itinéraires gastronomiques, des rencontres, des cours d'éducation au goût et des visites aux producteurs, ainsi qu'un soutien aux marchés paysans, en synergie avec les objectifs généraux.

Une philosophie axée sur le bien-être, la recherche du bonheur pour tous et le respect des écosystèmes. Bon, propre et juste", ce n'est pas seulement la devise que Slow Food a fait sienne, mais aussi le titre du livre publié par Einaudi en 2005, dans lequel Carlo Petrini jette les bases d'une nouvelle façon de considérer le système de production alimentaire, en le liant à l'attention portée à la biodiversité, à utiliser et donc, par conséquent, à défendre. La Fondazione Slow Food per la Biodiversità (Fondation Slow Food pour la Biodiversité), fondée en 2003 pour soutenir les Sentinelles Slow Food dans les territoires, et l'Arche du Goût travaillent dans ce sens : redonner de la valeur à l'alimentation, dans le respect des producteurs et des savoirs qui, en harmonie avec l'environnement, perpétuent les traditions dans les territoires. Agriculteurs, restaurateurs, producteurs, mais aussi chefs cuisiniers font partie des

interlocuteurs du mouvement. D'autre part, il y a la société, qui doit être sensibilisée aux questions chères à Slow Food grâce aux événements internationaux bien connus consacrés à l'alimentation et au goût : Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, Slow Fish, Cheese and Slow Wine Fair, mais aussi avec la création de la première Université des Sciences Gastronomiques, à Pollenzo dans la province de Cuneo.

La convivialité et la terre, l'histoire et la culture locales, le développement durable et le goût : toutes ces instances sont imbriquées dans la pensée que Slow Food a construite au fil des ans en agissant dans les territoires et parmi les gens, et en obtenant des reconnaissances décisives telles que celle de la FAO.
