| Prosaically, we could say that what man divided for geopolitical reasons only a little over a century ago, dolphins, whales and turtles have continued to keep undivided. While this stretch of sea that washes the Riviera and the entire French Riviera has always been the common home of thousands of beautiful marine mammals (remember the article about the whale sanctuary in the last issue of Sanremo.it?), it is equally true that the similarities and points of contact between the two actually go far beyond the fascinating world of the deep: there are the common origins of the two populations, the beauties in common that make this area one big French Riviera or, if you prefer, a Liguria Riviera which extends well beyond the Italian border of Ventimiglia. Two states, but common origins and common historical, cultural, tourist attractions that we wanted to remember in this issue. After all, if Monaco pays tribute to a population who, not surprisingly, elected in past centuries and has with increasing intensity begun to do so once again the entire area that goes from Nice and beyond and the Italian Riviera di Ponente as its second home - 130 events are scheduled in the Principality alone in order to celebrate the Year of Russia - Sanremo has always had its friendship with Russia in its DNA. Beginning with the Russian Church built by Pietro Agosti, a key ﬁgure in the history of the City of Flowers, whom we wanted to remember right in the newspaper you are holding in your hands. editoriale Prosaicamente potremmo dire che ciò che l’uomo ha diviso per motivi esclusivamente geopolitici poco più di un secolo fa, delfini, capodogli e tartarughe hanno continuato a mantenerlo unico. Se è vero che questa lingua di mare che bagna la Riviera e l’intera Costa Azzurra è da sempre la casa comune di migliaia di splendidi mammiferi marini (ricordate il servizio sul Santuario dei cetacei sullo scorso numero di Sanremo.it?), è altrettanto vero che le analogie e i punti di contatto tra le due realtà vanno ben oltre l’affascinante mondo degli abissi: sono nelle origini comuni delle due popolazioni, nelle comuni bellezze che fanno di questo territorio un’unica grande Costa Azzurra o, se vogliamo, una Riviera ligure che si estende ben oltre il confine italiano a Ventimiglia. Due stati, ma origini comuni e comuni attrattive, storiche, culturali, turistiche che su questo numero abbiamo voluto ricordare. Del resto, se Monaco rende omaggio a un popolo che, non a caso, ha eletto nei secoli passati e ha ripreso a farlo ormai da qualche anno, con crescente intensità, l’intero comprensorio che va Nizza e oltre fino alla Riviera italiana di ponente, la sua seconda casa - solo nel Principato sono in programma 130 eventi per festeggiare l’anno della Russia - Sanremo l’amicizia con la Russia ce l’ha da sempre nel suo Dna. A partire dalla Chiesa Russa costruita da Pietro Agosti, figura fondamentale nella storia della Città dei Fiori, che proprio sul giornale che avete tra le mani abbiamo voluto ricordare. Buona lettura e buon divertimento con l’ampia rassegna di eventi che Sanremo.it vi propone per trascorrere in Riviera e Costa Azzurra delle feste di Natale da non dimenticare.

| Prosaïquement, nous pouvons dire que ce que l’homme a séparè pour des simples raison géopolitiques il n’ y a pas plus loin d’un siècle, les dauphins, les baleines et les tortues ont continués à le garder unique. S’il est vrai que la portion de mer qui caresse la Riviera et la Cote d’Azur entière est depuis toujours maison en commun pour des milliers de magnifiques mammifères marins (rappelez vous l’article sur le Sanctuaire des cétacés dans le dernier numéro de Sanremo.it?), il est aussi vrai que les similitudes et les points de contact entre les deux réalité vont bien au delà du charmant monde du grand bleu : ce sont les origines en commun aux deux peuples, les beautés qu’ils partagent, qui font de ce territoire une grande et unique Côte d’Azur ou, si l’on préfère, une Riviera ligure qui s’étale bien plus loin de la frontière italienne à Venitimille. Deux États, mais les mêmes origines et les attractives, historiques, culturelles et touristiques que nous avons voulus rappeler dans cette édition. Du reste, si Monaco rend hommage à un peuple qui a, dans les siècles passés et recommence déjà depuis quelques années avec un interet croissant, choisi pour la deuxième habitation la région qui va de Nice jusqu’à la Riviera italienne -seulement dans la Principauté sont en programme 130 évènement pour fêter l’an de la Russie- Sanremo porte depuis toujours cette amitié avec la Russie dans son DNA. Commençant de l’Église Russe construite par Pietro Agosti, personnage clé de l’histoire de la Ville des Fleurs, que dans ce même journal nous avons voulu rappeler. appena eletta Miss Cote d’Azur (lo scorso 3 agosto a Mougins), durante lo shooting del servizio fotografico realizzato in esclusiva per Sanremo.it. Celati da un paio di enormi occhiali da sole, siamo accolti da due occhi di un profondo blu che restituiscono uno sguardo innocente e spensierato. Ventuno anni, nata a Roquebrune Cap-Martin, Charlotte ha iniziato ad appassionarsi alla passerella a soli 13 anni, quando ha partecipato al suo primo concorso di bellezza. << Hai vinto la fascia più ambita della Costa Azzurra, quali emozioni hai provato quando hai sentito pronunciare il tuo nome? “E’ stato incredibile, non mi sembrava vero. Non credo di aver mai vissuto un’emozione così forte.” Come hai festeggiato? “Subito dopo la cerimonia della premiazione, durante l’after-party, sono stata letteralmente travolta da giornalisti e fotografi, tanto da essere arrivata sfinita a casa alle quattro del mattino. Troppo stanca per andare ancora a festeggiare. Stanca ma felicissima. Così ho festeggiato il giorno dopo con la mia famiglia, mia mamma, mio papà e mia sorella maggiore, nel giardino di casa.” I tuoi genitori cosa ne pensano dei successi che stai collezionando? “Sono molto contenti e fieri. Sono sempre al mio fianco in tutto quello che faccio, mi appoggiano e mi danno la forza e la carica necessarie per affrontare le sfide.” A proposito di sfide. La prossima è la finale di Miss France il 6 dicembre a Orleans. Come ti prepari? “In realtà sarò con il gruppo di Miss France a Parigi già da Novembre per la preparazione all’evento. La affronto, come ho fatto con tutte le altre, tranquilla e serena e quel che sarà sarà. Mi piace affrontarlo come un gioco, una splendida opportunità per vivere un’avventura che capita una sola volta nella vita. Mi sento molto fortunata.” Com’era la tua vita prima di Miss Cote d’Azur? Cosa è cambiato da quando porti la coroncina? “Sono una studentessa di Marketing e Management con indirizzo Lusso, Moda e De-

sign, ma ho preso una pausa di un anno per potermi dedicare completamente alla favola che sto vivendo. Come Miss Cote d’Azur ho molti impegni, presenzio spesso alle partite di basket a Montecarlo, Cannes e Antibes e partecipo a inaugurazioni di eventi e boutique.” Che progetti hai per il futuro? “Riprenderò gli studi perché voglio lavorare nel campo della moda. Mi piacerebbe approfondire le mie conoscenze a Parigi in una scuola per designer. Il mio sogno è disegnare abiti da sera.” Quindi ti piace vestire elegante... Chi sono i tuoi idoli nel mondo della moda? “A dire il vero il mio look di tutti i giorni è molto casual. Ovviamente se le occasioni lo richiedono mi piace scegliere con cura l’outfit perfetto, ho una passione sfegatata per scarpe e borse. I miei stilisti preferiti sono Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana e Yves Saint Laurent… sono geniali.” Dalla Cote d’Azur a Parigi dunque. Ti rivedremo qui? (Sorride) “Si certo, questa è casa mia! Mi piacerebbe tornarci, ma non prima di aver viaggiato e vissuto all’estero per qualche anno. Voglio fare più esperienze possibile, magari lavorando appunto nel campo della moda.” Ok, un’ultima domanda, quella che si pongono tutti. C’è un principe accanto alla reginetta di bellezza? “No, sono single e… felice.” >> Una ragazza come poche, che con un sorriso riesce ad ammaliare chiunque abbia la fortuna di incontrarla. Charlotte ha un futuro radioso davanti a se, tanti sogni e voglia di non lasciarsi sfuggire nessuna opportunità per vivere a pieno la vita. E chissà che il prossimo anno non lo passi con indosso la fascia di Miss France. Noi ci crediamo e tifiamo per lei.

| Nous rencontrons la belle Charlotte Pirroni qui vient d’être élue Miss Côte d’Azur (le 3 août dernier à Mougins) au cour du shooting de la séance de photos réalisè exclusivement pour Sanremo.it Nous sommes accueillis par deux yeux d’un bleu profond qui offrent un regard innocent et sans soucis, même si cachés par des grandes lunettes de soleil. Elle a 21 ans, elle est née à Roquebrune Cap-Martin. Charlotte a débutè avec sa passion pour les défilés à l’age de 13 ans, quand elle a participé à son premier concours de beauté.

que je suis en train de vivre. En tant que Miss Cote d’Azur j’ai un grand nombre de rendez-vous, j’assiste souvent aux match de basket à Monte-Carlo, Cannes et Antibes et aux inaugurations de manifestations et de boutiques.”

Tu a gagné l’écharpe la plus convoité de la Côte d’Azur, quelles émotions a tu ressenti quand tu a entendu prononcer ton nom ? C’était incroyable, il semblait ne pas être réel. Je pense n’avoir jamais vécu de sentiments si forts << Comment as tu fêtè ? “Tout de suite après la cérémonie de remise des prix, au cour de l’after-party, j’ai été littéralement submergée par les journalistes et le photographes, je suis rentrée chez moi, épuisée, seulement à 4 heures du matin. J’etait bien trop fatiguée pour repartir encore. Épuisée mais très heureuse. Le jour d’après j’ai fêtè avec ma famille, ma mère, mon père et ma seur ainée, au jardin de chez moi.”

Tu aimes donc le style élégant... qui sont tes idoles du monde de la mode ? “À vrais dire mon look pour tous les jours est très casual. Bien sur si l’occasion le demande j’adore choisir soigneusement le parfait out fit. J’ai une grande passion pour les chaussures et les sacs. Les stylistes que je préfère sont Valentino, Dolce&Gabbana et Yves Saint Laurent...ils sont géniales”

À propos de défis. La prochaine c’est la finale de Miss France le 6 décembre à Orléans. Comment te prépares tu ? “En réalité je vais être dans le groupe de Miss France à Paris déjà à partir du mois de Novembre pour nous préparer à la cérémonie. Je vais l’affronter, comme je l’ai fait avec les autres concours, tranquille et sereine et ce qui sera sera. J’aime le prendre comme un jeu, une belle occasion de vivre une aventure qui arrive une seule fois dans la vie. Je me sens très heureuse” Comment était ta vie avant Miss Cote d’Azur ? Qu’es ce qu’ a changé depuis que tu porte la couronne ? “Je suis étudiante en Marketing et Management avec spécialisation Luxe, Mode et Design, mais je fais une pause d’un an pour pouvoir me dédier complètement à la fable

Quels sont tes projets pour l’avenir ? “Je vais reprendre les études car mon intention est de travailler dans la mode. J’aimerai approfondir mes connaissances à Paris dans une école pour designer. Mon rêve est de dessiner des robes de soirée”

Donc de la Côte d’Azur à Paris. Nous allons te revoir ici ? “(Elle sourit) Oui, bien sur, ici c’est ma maison ! J’aimerais y retourner, mais pas avant avoir voyagé et vécu à l’étranger pendent quelques années. Je veux faire le plus d’expérience possible, si possible en travaillant dans le domaine de la mode.” Ok, une dernière question, celle que tout le monde se pose. Est ce qu’il y a un prince auprès de la reine de beauté ? “Non, je suis single et...heureuse” >> Une fille comme il n’y a n’a pas beaucoup, elle charme avec son sourire tous ceux qui ont la chance de la rencontrer. Charlotte a un brillant avenir devant elle, beaucoup de rêves et l’envie de ne pas loupper aucune chance de vivre la vie en plein. Pietro Agosti

l’uomo che ha cambiato il volto di Sanremo non sarebbe quella che é oggi se non fosse stato per Pietro Agosti. L’ingegner Pietro Agosti... e il Sindaco Pietro Agosti. Nato a Bordighera nel 1873, subito dopo aver conseguito la laurea in ingegneria civile, Agosti si mise all’opera, dimostrando fin dai primi progetti la sua capacità e il suo estro nel creare vere e proprie opere architettoniche. La sua carriera ebbe inizio, infatti, con la costruzione della chiesa di Bussana nuova nel 1987. Negli anni a seguire, si concentrò invece sul centro di Sanremo, dove fece erigere l’Hotel de Paris e l’Hotel Savoy, ispirandosi allo stile della vicina Costa Azzurra. Rigoroso e molto accurato amava occuparsi personalmente di tutti i dettagli decorativi, sempre fedele al suo gusto classico. Il suo nome divenne noto anche tra le famiglie del nord europa, che lo interpellavano per la progettazione delle loro dimore nella Riviera dei Fiori. Fu così che firmò diversi progetti di ville in corso degli Inglesi, ispirandosi agli stili Liberty e Pompier. Sono molte le sue opere divenute un vanto per Sanremo: dall’hotel Mediterranee, alle ville King, Ines, Sunnyblack e Magnolie, alla facciata del cinema Centrale, solo per citarne alcuni. Nel 1910 Agosti fu inoltre incaricato dalla comunità ortodossa a Sanremo affinché costruisse una chiesa di rappresentanza, fortemente voluta da Ma-

ria Alessandrovna. Proprio per questo la chiesa Russa fu costruita a ridosso di quello che ancora oggi è lo splendido corso Imperatrice, passeggiata già dedicata a lei, come ringraziamento per la sua generosa offerta di palme alla città. Nel 1927 Agosti fu nominato podestà di Sanremo e uno dei primi successi da primo cittadino fu quello di dare un parco alla città, facendo acquistare al Comune villa Ormond, di cui progettò la fontana del giardino inferiore. Sempre nello stesso periodo, grazie alla richiesta di Agosti, Mussolini istituì il Casinò di Sanremo come casa del gioco d’azzardo, attraverso un decreto legislativo che legalizzava una situazione di tolleranza che andava avanti da anni. Questo diede un forte sostegno alla vocazione turistica della Riviera di Ponente, una definizione della costa tra l’altro promossa proprio da Pietro Agosti. E proprio le sale del Casinò, l’ottobre scorso, hanno ospitato foto e progetti dell’ingegnere che ha cambiato il volto di Sanremo.

Inès, Sunnyblack et Magnolie, à la façade du cinéma Centrale, seulement pour en nommer quelques unes. En 1910 Agosti vient aussi contacté de la communauté orthodoxe de Sanremo pour le construction d’une Eglise, fortement voulue par Maria Alessandrovna. C’est pourquoi l’Église est construite prés de celui qui est aujourd’hui le splendide Corso Imperatrice, promenade qui lui est déjà dédiée, en remerciement pour son genereux cadeaux de palmiers à la ville. En 1927 Agosti est nommé podestà de Sanremo et l’un de ses premier succès en tant que premier citoyen est de créer un parc pour la ville, la municipalité achète villa Ormond, dont il conçoit la fontaine du jardin inférieur. Toujours dans la même période. Grâce à la demande de Agosti, Mussolini institue le Casino de Sanremo comme maison de jeux de hazard par un décret loi légalisant un état de tolérance que perdure depuis des année. Cela donne un soutien fort au tourisme de la Riviera di Ponente, une définition de la cote promue juste par Pietro Agosti. Et ces mêmes salle du Casino, le mois d’Octobre dernier, ont accueilli les photos et les projets de l’ingénieur qui a changé le visage de Sanremo.

| Pietro Agosti, l’homme qui a changé de visage à Sanremo Sanremo ne serait pas ce qu’il est aujourd’hui si ce n’était pour Pietro Agosti. L’ingenieur Pietro Agosti...et le Maire Pietro Agosti. Il est né à Bordighera en 1873, tout de suite après avoir eu la licence d’ingenieur civil, Agosti se met à l’œuvre, en montrant dès ses premier projets sa capacité et son talent dans la création de véritables oevres d’architecture. Sa carrière commence, en fait, avec la construction de l’Église de Bussana nuova en 1987. Dans les années suivantes il se concentre plutôt sur le centre de Sanremo où il fait bâtir l’Hôtel de Paris et l’Hôtel Savoy, inspiré du style de la voisine Cote d’Azur. Très précis et strict il aime se prendre personnellement soin de tous les détails décoratifs, toujours fidèle à son goût classique. Son nom devient connu même dans les familles de l’Europe du nord qui le contactent pour la conception de leurs maison dans la Riviera dei Fiori. C’est ainsi qu’il signe plusieurs projets de villas en Corso Inglesi, empruntées aux styles Liberty et Pompier. Elles sont beaucoup ses œuvres devenue source de fierté pour Sanremo : de l’Hôtel Méditerrané aux villas King,

Come mai ha scelto proprio Sanremo per le riprese della “Bella Vita”? “Sanremo è un posto favoloso, una città ospitale, con gente sempre allegra e sorridente e con un paesaggio davvero unico”. E’ la prima volta che gira un film in Italia? “Si e ne sono entusiasta. Penso che tornerò per altre produzioni”. Cosa apprezza di più del nostro Paese? “Senza ombra di dubbio la cucina. La vostra sardenaira è superba. E poi ho assaggiato per la prima volta in vita mia il risotto, squisito. Per non parlare del vostro vino”. Nel suo cast ci sono russi e ucraini com’è la convivenza? “Ottima, è il bello del cinema e della televisione. Qui non esistono odi politici. Siamo tutti una grande famiglia”.

Al Victory Morgana Bay, l’elegante location tra i due porti di Sanremo, la notte di San Silvestro diventa glamour. è alle porte e con esso i relativi festeggiamenti. E cosa c’è di meglio che aprire una buona bottiglia di vino? Naturalmente, il vino per eccellenza delle festività natalizie è senza dub-

bio “Sua Maestà” lo Champagne. Situata nel nord est della Francia, nella regione dello Champagne si coltivano le tre uve che hanno reso grande questo vino: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir e Pinot Meunier. Le tre regioni principali sono Vallee de la Marne, Montagne de Reims e Cote des Blancs, caratterizzate da un suolo composto principalmente da gesso,argilla e calcare, il terroir ideale per il prezioso uvaggio. La produzione di champagne si attesta a circa sui 350/400 milioni di bottiglie all’anno, suddivise tra numerose etichette prestigiose, dal Dom Pèrignon al Cristal Roederer, dal Krug Clos du Mesnil al Clos Ambonnay. Ma sono tantissimi i piccoli produttori, i “vigneron” che offrono vini legati ai rispettivi terroir.

Ovviamente lo champagne è uno spumante a metodo classico, ovvero con le seconda fermentazione in bottiglia. Ci sono diverse categorie da conoscere per il consumo, differenti per il grado zuccherino finale. Ecco la lista, a partire da quelli in cui lo zucchero è assente: nature (zero zucchero); extra brut (fino a 6 grammi /litro); brut (sino a 15 gr/l), che sono quelli più comuni, anche se ultimamente sta tornando in voga il demisec (fino a 50 gr/l). Anche in altre parti del mondo si produce la stessa tipologia di vino, ma con altre varietà e altri terroir. Uno dei vini più venduti al mondo è il Cava spagnolo (con circa 240 milioni di bottiglie ogni anno): si produce nel Pènedes, un territorio tra Barcellona e Tarragona, con le tipiche uve macabeo, parellada e xarel-lo. In Italia abbiamo il Franciacorta, una zona collinare tra Brescia ed il lago d’Iseo. Le uve sono lo Chardonnay, il Pinot Noir e il Pinot Bianco. un vin mousseux produit par méthode traditionnelle, c’est à dire avec une deuxième fermentation en bouteille. Ils existent plusieurs catégories qu’il faut connaître avant le choix et la consommation, car elles ont une différente teneur en sucre. Voici la liste des plus communs, à partir de celles ou le sucre est absent : nature (sans sucre) ; extra brut (jusqu’à 6 gr/litre) ; brut (jusqu’à 15gr/l). Dernièrement revient à la mode le demisec (jusqu’à 50 gr/l). La même qualité de vin est également produite dans d’autres Pays, mais à partir d’autres vignobles et de différents terroirs. L’un des vins les plus vendus au monde est le Cava espagnol (avec 240 million de bouteilles vendues par an) : il est produit dans le Pènedes, une zone entre Barcelone et Terragona, avec les vignobles Macabeo, Parellada et Xarel-lo. En Italie nous avons le Franciacorta, sur les collines entre Brescia et le lac d’Iseo. Les vignobles sont le Chardonnay, le Pinot Noir et le Pinot Blanc. Évidement, le vin par excellence pour les fêtes de Noël est sans doute ‘’Sa Majesté’’ le Champagne. C’est dans la région de Champagne, située au nord-est de la France, que se cultivent les trois cépages qui font de ce produit viticole un grand vin : le Chardonnay, le Pinot Noir et le Pinot Meunier. Les trois régions principales sont la Vallée de la Marne, Montagne de Reims et Cote des Blancs, caractérisées par un terrain qui se compose principalement de craie, d’argile et de calcaire, le terroir idéal pour ce mélange précieux. rea Sanremo, la cui organizzazione è affidata dal Comune di Sanremo a Sanremo Promotion, è l’”accademia” che apre ai giovani le porte al Festival. Superando le dure selezioni al termine di quasi tre mesi di laboratorio musicale, solo i due (singoli o gruppi) più talentuosi potranno salire sul palco della più importante rassegna canora italiana, che ha visto quest’anno ai nastri di partenza ben 477 aspiranti cantanti in rappresentanza di tutte le regioni, tranne la Valle d’Aosta, e di età compresa tra i 16 e i 36 anni. Tutti animati dalla stessa voglia: riuscire a calcare il palco più famoso d’Italia e vedere realizzati i propri sogni di artista. Un numero di partecipanti in netta crescita rispetto alla passata edizione di Area Sanremo: hanno infatti varcato le porte del Palafiori 350 solisti, 21 coppie e 21 gruppi. Una Commissione di valutazione, scelta dal direttore responsabile Paolo Giordano e composta da Roby Facchinetti, storica voce dei Pooh, Giusy Ferreri e Dargen D’Amico,

ha ascoltato tutti gli artisti e ne ha scelti 40. Di questi solo 8, giudicati anche da Mogol, sosterranno un’audizione davanti alla Commissione Rai preposta a scegliere i due fortunati cantanti che parteciparanno al Festival 2015 in programma dal 10 al 14 febbraio e condotto quest’anno, per la prima volta, da Carlo Conti. La nostra città punta, anno dopo anno, sempre più alla musica a 360°. Grande sogno del Comune è quello di creare un talent televisivo. Nel frattempo, a Sanremo, a breve dovrebbero nascere delle aree Siae free dedicate a giovani musicisti e cantanti che vorranno esibirsi. Una occasione affinchè la musica possa davvero essere la grande attrattiva della nostra città.

Facchinetti, voix historique du groupe Pooh, Giusy Ferreri et Daria D’Amico, a écouté tous les artistes en en choisissant 40. Parmi eux, seulement 8, jugés même par Mogol, vont faire une audition devant la Commission Rai chargée de sélectionner les deux chanteurs qui auront la chance de participer au Festival 2015 prévu du 10 au 14 février, présentè, pour la première fois cette année, par Carlo Conti. Notre ville compte, an après an, de plus en plus sur la musique à 360°. Le grand rêve de la municipalité et de créer un talent show pour la télé. En attendent, à Sanremo vont naitre à bref des points ‘’Siae free’’ dédiée aux jeunes musiciens que voudront bien s’exhiber. Une chance pour la musique de devenir vraiment une grande attraction pour notre ville.

A Seborga la verdura bio é a

colori

metri dal livello del mare, nel piccolo borgo di Seborga, nell’entroterra di Bordighera, cresce la “verdura” più unica e rara della Liguria e forse addirittura d’Europa. L’azienda agricola “Monaci Templari”, si é specializzata negli ultimi anni, nella ricerca e coltivazione di antiche piante e ortaggi...colorati! Ma se pensate che si tratti di prodotti geneticamente modificati vi sbagliate di grosso. Nelle fasce coltivate da Flavio Gorni e da sua moglie Manuela, tutto é rigorosamente biologico. Il Pomodoro Nero di Seborga, fiore all’occhiello dell’azienda, é un frutto dall’antica tradizione, tanto particolare e gustoso, che dopo essere stato apprezzato dal noto chef inglese Jamie Oliver, l’azienda seborghina ha ricevuto richieste dall’indirizzo più importante e inatteso di Londra: Buckingham Palace. All’ultimo Salone del Gusto di Torino, il Pomodoro Nero di Seborga, tra i prodotti scelti da Slow Food, ha suscitato grande interesse e curiosità tra gli avventori della fiera gastronomica più importante dell’anno. Ma il pomodoro dall’insolita tonalità non e’ certo l’unico frutto della terra colorato, che viene coltivato a Montenero. Le “Bietole Arcobaleno”, trovate la prima volta abbandonate in una campagna da Flavio, sono ormai un prodotto molto richiesto, non solo per l’ottimo gusto, ma anche perché donano a ogni piatto un tocco di originalità

unica. Accanto ai gambi colorati delle bietole si possono trovare anche le “Fave Rosa”, la cui pianta fa tanti fiorellini, prima di regalare i baccelli colmi delle deliziose bacche rosso pallido. L’ultimo arrivato in famiglia é il “Mais Arcobaleno”: qui le pannocchie solitamente di colore giallo, hanno tanti chicchi tutti colorati, lucidi e rotondi come perle. I semi per coltivare queste pannocchie uniche in Italia, sono riservati unicamente a coltivatori certificati “bio”. Il frutteto dell’azienda ha prelibatezze uniche da offrire: la giovane famiglia raccoglie, infatti, le mele rosse (sia buccia che polpa) “Almaty”, un’antica pianta originaria del Kazakistan. Anche le galline non fanno uova “classiche”. Infatti, le “Araucane” e le “Marans” ne depongono di azzurre e color cioccolato. A dicembre sbocceranno i fiori di zafferano. I pistilli, dopo la raccolta (prima che sorga il sole) vengono separati dai petali per poi essere essiccati accanto al camino, diffondendo un profumo unico in tutto l’ambiente. Quella di Flavio e Manuela é decisamente un’azienda con la passione per l’unicità e qualità dei prodotti della terra: i più colorati della Riviera ligure.

| À Seborga les légumes bio sont à couleurs À 450 m. sur le niveau de la mer, dans le petit village de Seborga, dans l’arrière pays de Bordighera, poussent des légumes, les plus uniques que rares de la Ligurie, peut être même de l’Europe.La ferme des ‘’Moines Templiers’’ dans ces dernières années s’est spécialisé dans la recherche et réactivation d’anciens légumes...colorés ! Mais si vous pansez qu’il s’agit de produit génétiquement modifiés , vous êtes bien loin du vrai. Dans les terrasses cultivées par Flavio Gorni et sa femme Manuela, tout est rigoureusement biologique. La tomate noir de Seborga, est le produit phare de la maison, c’est un fruit aux traditions antiques, si particulier et savoureux que, après avoir été apprécié par le célèbre chef britannique Jamie Olivier, l’entreprise a reçu des commandes inattendues depuis l’adresse la plus importante de Londres : Buckingam Palace. Au dernier Salone del Gusto à Turin, la tomate noir de Seborga, entre les produit choisi par Slow Food, a créer un grand intérêt et curiosité parmi les visiteurs de la foire gastronomique la plus importante de l’année. Mais la tomate à la couleur pas commune, n’est certainement pas l’unique fruit de terre coloré qui se cultive à Montenero. Les ‘’Blettes Arc-en-ciel’’, retrouvées la première fois par Flavio dans une campa-

gne abandonnée, sont désormais un produit très demandé, non seulement à cause de son goût, mais aussi pars-ce-qu’elle donne à chaque assiette une touche originale et unique. Prés de cotes colorées des blettes vous pouvez trouver les ‘’Fèves Roses’’, dont la plante produit plein de petites fleurs avant de donner les cosses, comblé de délicieuses baies couleur rouge pale. Le dernier arrivé en famille est le ‘’Mais Arc-En-Ciel’’ : là les épi, qu’habituellement sont jaunes, sont pleins de petits grains, tous colorés, ronds et luisants comme des perles. Les serments pour cultiver ces épis uniques en Italie, sont réservés seulement pour les cultivateurs certifiés ‘’bio’’. Le verger nous offre des gourmandises uniques : la jeune famille récolte les pommes rouges (soit la peau que la pulpe) ‘’Amalty’’, plante originaire du Kazakistan. Même les poules ne déposent pas d’œufs classiques. Au fait les ‘’Araucane’’ et les ‘’Marans’’ en pondent des bleu ciel et des couleur chocolat. En décembre vont s’ouvrir les fleur de safran. Les pistils, après la récolte (avant l’aube) viennent séparés des pétales pour être séchés devant la cheminé, répandant un parfum unique dans toute la pièce. Celle de Flavio et Manuela est décidément un entreprise avec la passion pour l’exclusivité et la qualité des produits de la terre : les plus colorés de la Riviera Ligure

giorni per gli scavi in corso nell’area archeologica di Albintimilium sorta sulla sponda destra del torrente Nervia agli inizi del II secolo a.C., a seguito della sconfitta impartita dai Romani a una coalizione delle popolazioni liguri di ponente: Sabazi, Ingauni e appunto Intemeli. Le ricerche condotte dall’Istituto Internazionale di Studi Liguri nell’area delle mura settentrionali della città romana, facente parte in origine della IX Regio Liguria d’età augustea, continuano la tradizione iniziata dal grande archeologo ligure Nino Lamboglia nel 1938 che proprio da qui rivoluzionò il modo di fare archeologia, applicando il metodo stratigrafico nello scavo di un sito di età classica. Gli scavi pluriennali in concessione all’Istituto dal Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali e del Turismo tramite la Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici della Liguria, hanno permesso l’acquisizione di nuovi notevoli dati sulla storia e sull’organizzazione topografica di Albintimilium e di continuare l’importante scuola di formazione istituita a Ventimiglia nel 1948 dallo stesso Lamboglia, che ha formato intere generazioni di archeologici tra scavi e reperti. Le indagini svolte in questi anni hanno consentito di riportare in vista una consistente parte della cinta muraria che delimitava a nord, in prossimità delle pendici di Collasgarba, l’antico centro urbano e di scoprire un sepolcreto tardo antico che, a partire dalla metà del V secolo d.C., si impostò in questa zona dopo il suo abbandono successivo alle prime incursioni barbariche. Lo scavo, a cui ogni anno partecipano decine di studenti e giovani ricercatori provenienti dalla principali Università italiane e straniere, attualmente è l’unico in corso di svolgimento nel sito romano di Albintimilium, una delle principali realtà archeologiche della Liguria che, con le sue mura, strade, le terme, il teatro, le insulae e le domus con

pavimenti in mosaico e affreschi, costituisce una delle maggiori testimonianze del periodo romano nella nostra regione. Daniela Gandolfi

| La ville romane de Albintimilium Des nouvelles campagnes de fouille dans la ville romane de Albintimilium, la Ventimille moderne à la frontière avec la France Derniers jours pour les fouilles en cours dans l’aire archéologique de Albintimilium, né sur la berge droite du torrent Nervia au début du II siècle a.c. à la suite de la défaite donnée par les Romains à une coalition de peuples ligures de l’ouest : Sabazi, Ingauni et justement les Intemeli. Les recherches menées par l’Istituto Internazionale di Studi Liguri dans l’aire des murs septentrionaux de la ville romaine, faisant partie de la XI Regio Liguria de l’age augustéen, continuent la tradition commencée par le grand archéologue ligure Nino Lamboglia en 1938 que d’ici a révolutionné la façon de faire l’archéologie, utilisant la méthode de fouille stratigraphique pour un site de l’age classique. Les fouilles données en concession sur plusieurs années à l’Istituto per i Beni Archeologici della Liguria, ont permis l’acquisition de nouvelles donnés sur l’histoire et l’organisation topographique

de Albintimilium, et de continuer l’importante école de formation, fondé a Ventimille en 1948 par Lamboglia lui même qui a formé des générations entières d’archéologues entre les fouille et les pièces. Les enquêtes menées pendent ces années ont permis de porter à jours une grande portion des murs qui bordent, du coté nord, en proximité de la pente de Collasgarba, l’ancien centre urbain et de découvrir un cimetière antique que, à partir de la moitié du V siècle d.c., prend place dans la zone, une fois avoir été abandonnée après les premieres invasions des barbares. La fouille, qui attire chaque année des dizaines d’étudiants et chercheur de grandes universités italiennes et étrangères, est actuellement la seule en cours sur le site de l’Albintimilium romain, l’un des principaux site archéologiques de la Ligurie, avec ses murs, les routes, les thermes, un théâtre, insula et domus avec des planchers et de fresques en mosaïque est l’un des plus grands témoignage de vestiges romains dans notre région.

Ouverture de la saison 2014/2015 de la Réserve Blanche A partir de samedi 6 décembre la saison de ski 2014/2015 de la Réserve Blanche offre aux amateurs du ski et snowboard la chance de profiter d’une aire très moderne où vivre des magnifiques journées de sport et relax. À attendre ceux qui vont choisir Limone Piemonte comme station de ski où passer des moments inoubliable en famille ou avec les amis, c’est une zone que chaque année s’engage à ajouter des nouvelles pièces à cet effort de modernisation. Même cette année à la Réserve Blanche ne vont pas manquer des nouveautés, comme l’activation d’un guichet complètement informatisé pour vous faire éviter le queues en début de journée, il est possible d’organiser son propre ski pass par carte de crédit avec un ordinateur, tablette ou smartphone. Les journées passées en Réserve Blanche vont ainsi pouvoir être de plus en plus votées au relax total, pour ce qui concerne la pratique du snowboard et du ski, même confortées d’une ou plusieurs pauses dans les divers établissement offrant,

le atlete di due tra i più quotati club russi di pallavolo femminile, Leningradka San Pietroburgo e Proton Balakovo, che ad ottobre, nei giorni in cui si svolgeva il Mondiale in Italia, hanno scelto la Riviera dei Fiori per l’ultima parte della preparazione in vista della Superleague, l’equivalente della A1 italiana. Il team di San Pietroburgo ha soggiornato per oltre due settimane, svolgendo duri allenamenti tra Ospedaletti e Sanremo. Approfittando delle belle giornate le pallavoliste hanno goduto appieno della pista ciclabile sul mare, autentico valore aggiunto di questo lembo di Liguria. Della permanenza del Leningradka in riviera hanno giovato anche due squadre della Costa Azzurra, Le Cannet e Saint Raphael, sparring partner di due spettacolari test match Francia-Russia ospitati dall’accogliente palestra di Ospedaletti. Curioso che della rosa del Leningradka faccia parte anche una nota giocatrice italiana, quella Simona Rinieri che con la maglia azzurra ha vinto il Mondiale nel 2002. L’entusiastica permanenza del Proton si invece è protratta solo per cinque giorni, tutti

concentrati nella Città dei Fiori, dove le altissime giocatrici non sono passate inosservate. Oltre che per apprezzare il clima e fare un po’ di shopping, le ragazze giunte da Balakovo (oltre 3.300 km da Sanremo!) hanno “trovato il tempo” per aggiudicarsi la 30^ Sanremo Cup Memorial Tessitore, prestigioso torneo nel cui albo d’oro mancava proprio il nome di una squadra russa.

| Grandes fortes et belles Ce sont les athlètes des deux clubs de volley-ball féminin les plus populaires de Russie, Leningradka Saint-Pétersbourg et Proton Balakovo, que en octobre, les jours où se jouait le championnat du monde en Italie, ont choisi la Riviera dei Fiori pour la dernière séance d’entrainement en vue de la Superleague, l’équivalent de l’A1 en Italie. Le team de Saint-Pétersbourg s’est entrainé durement, pendent plus de deux semaines, entre Sanremo et Ospedaletti. Grâce au beau temps les joueuses du volley-ball ont profitées en plein de la piste cyclable du bord de mer, véritable valeur ajoutée de ce zeste de Ligurie. Les deux équipes de la côte d’azur, Le Cannet et Saint Raphaël, ont également appréciés la présence du Leningradka en Riviera, sparringpartner dans deux test matches spectaculaires France-Russie joués dans l’accueillent gymnase de Ospedaletti. Il est curieux que dans l’équipe du Leningradka joue aussi une athlète italienne très connue, Simona Rinieri qui a gagné, avec le maillot bleu, le Mondiale de 2002. La permanence enthousiaste du Proton n’a par contre duré que 5 jours, tous concentrés dans la Ville des Fleurs, où les très grandes athlètes ne sont pas passées inaperçues. Les filles arrivées de Balakovo (plus de 3.300km de Sanremo) en plus d’apprécier le climat et faire un peu de shopping, ont ‘’trouvées le temps’’ pour gagner le 30° Sanremo Cup Memorial Tessitore, un tournoi important que, dans son tableau d’honneur, manquait justement d’un équipes Russe.

luoghi in cui la geografia fisica del territorio si fa geografia simbolica e delle emozioni. Siamo in Liguria, nella Riviera di Ponente, una sommatoria tra la storica definizione di Riviera, che la vede parte integrante dei territori della fastosa Repubblica Marinara di Genova, e la confinante Costa Azzurra, terra “sorella”, dalle caratteristiche paesaggistiche e territoriali molto simili. Nel Medioevo il toponimo Riviera includeva il tratto costiero della Liguria: al centro Genova e ai lati le riviere di Ponente e Levante. Risale infatti al 14 giugno 1180 la più antica citazione del termine “Riviera”, rintracciato in un antico cartuliario notarile savonese in cui si riporta la costituzione di una società per il commercio proprio in Riviera. Qualche anno dopo, nel 1198, in un atto notale di Genova si scopre che il termine Riviera è stato esteso e si allarga a Ponente fino a Montpellier. Dal 1600 in avanti, con i commerci sempre più frequenti e i numerosi viaggi che vanno intensificandosi da tutta Europa creando la nobile tradizione del Grand Tour, il nome Riviera viene associato sempre più a un’immagine costruita su suggestioni. È così che la Riviera tra Genova e il Principato di Monaco diventa luogo del mito, rafforzato da rappresentazioni artistiche (Monet, Matisse, Chagal, Renoir, Picasso, …), opere letterarie (il “Doctor Antonio” di Giovanni Ruffini, uscito in Scozia nel 1855), parchi favolosi (i Giardini Hanbury) e stupende costruzioni architettoniche (Charles Garnier, Le Corbusier) che ne mettono in evidenza il clima mite e piacevole, i paesaggi incantanti e la natura fatta di piante e fiori lussureggianti.

geografia emotiva di un litorale Riviera passa allora a definire non tanto una zona geografica quanto un profilo turistico. È Riviera quella ligure, ma anche quella francese, che si apre subito dopo la frontiera di Ventimiglia. E il carattere internazionale della definizione è testimoniato dal passaggio immutato della parola Riviera in diverse lingue europee. L’immaginario turistico e letterario fonde i luoghi, sfruttando il carattere pressoché identico di territori limitrofi, entrambi caratterizzati dalla salubrità del mare e dalla dolcezza del paesaggio. Accade però, nel 1887, che il politico e intellettuale francese Stéphen Liégeard pubblichi il libro-guida “La Côte d’azur”, minuzioso quaderno di descrizione di un viaggio da Hyères a Genova che mette in evidenza la storia, i paesi e i piacevoli caratteri mediterranei del litorale. Grazie al successo editoriale di quest’opera, il termine Costa Azzurra in poco tempo si fa etichetta perfetta per i luoghi rivieraschi di Francia che hanno come simbolico capoluogo Nizza. Una seconda geografia emotiva dopo quella che già aveva costruito l’immagine turistica della Riviera e che, grazie all’efficacia delle rappresentazioni letterarie e artistiche, ancora oggi richiama alla mente l’idea di vacanza, divertimento e lusso, di vedute marine e affascinanti giardini fioriti. Scegliete voi quali luoghi visitare e come chiamare un territorio da sogno, se Riviera o Côte d’Azur. L’importante, al di là del nome, sarà viverlo, per scoprirlo giorno dopo giorno. | Entre la Côte et la Riviera, la géographie émotionnelle d’un littoral Il existent des endroits où la géographie physique devient géographie symbolique et des émotions. Nous sommes en Ligurie, dans la Riviera di Ponente, une somme entre la définition historique de Riviera, où elle fait part des territoires de la grandiose République Maritime de Gênes, et la voisine Côte d’Azur une terre ‘’jumelle’’ aux paysages et aux caractéristiques territoriales très similaires. Au Moyen-Age, la toponymie Riviera comprenait la côte de la Ligurie : Gênes au milieu et sur les côtés les Riviera de Ponente (à l’ouest) et de Levante (à l’est). Elle remonte en fait au 14 juin 1180 la plus ancienne citation du terme ‘’Riviera’’ retrouvé dans l’ancien registre d’un notaire de Savona qui note la formation d’une société de commerce en Riviera. Quelques années plus tard, en 1198, dans un acte notarié de Gênes nous découvrons que le terme Riviera a été étendu vers l’ouest jusqu’à Montpellier. A compter de 1600, quand les échanges se font plus fréquentes et les nombreux voyage de toute l’Europe augmentent en créant la noble tradition du Grand Tour. Le nom Riviera vient de plus en plus associé à une image crée à partir de suggestions. C’est ainsi que la Riviera entre Gênes et la Principauté de Monaco devient l’endroit du myte, soutenu par les représentations artistiques (Monet, Matisse, Chagal, Renoir, Picasso...), les œuvres littéraires (Le ‘’Doctor Antonio’’ de Giovanni Ruffini, édité en Écosse en 1855), les parc fantastiques (les Jardins Hambury) et les spectaculaires construction architectoniques (Charles Garnier, Le Corbusier) qui montre le climat Antibes ©CRT Côte d’Azur - Photographe : Robert PALOMBA

doux et plaisant, les charmants paysages et la nature faite de fleurs et plantes luxuriantes. Riviera passe alors à définir non seulement une zone géographique mais plutôt un profile touristique. Riviera c’est celle de Ligurie, mais aussi celle française qui s’ouvre juste après la frontière de Vintimille. Et le caractère international de la définition est témoigne par le passage, sans changements, du mots Riviera dans des diverses langues européennes. L’imaginaire littéraire et touristique fait que les lieux se fondent, utilisant le caractère presque identique de territoires voisins, les deux caractérisés par la salubrité de la mer et la douceur du paysage. Mais il arrive, en 1887, que le politique et intellectuel français Stephen Liegeard publie le livreguide ‘’La Côte d’Azur, un cahier avec une minutieuse description d’un voyage entre Hyères et Gênes qui fait ressortir l’histoire, les pays et les agréables caractères méditerranéens du littoral. Grâce au succés de l’édition de cette œuvre, le terme Côte d’Azur se transforme bientôt dans la parfaite étiquette pour les endroits de la cote française qui ont Nice comme ville principale. Une deuxième géographie émotionnelle après celle qu’ avait déjà crée l’image touristique de la Riviera et que, grâce à l’efficacité des représentations littéraires et artistiques, aujourd’hui encore rappelle l’idée de vacances, amusement et luxe, de vue marines et de charmants jardin fleuris. A vous de choisir les lieux à visiter et comment appeler un territoire de rêve, si Riviera ou Cote d’Azur. L’important, au de la du nom, c’est de le vivre, pour le découvrir jour après jour.

Feste indimenticabili a

Monaco con la Cursa di Natale, ribattezzata di recente “U Giru de Natale”, Monaco si prepara all’invasione pacifica di centinaia di sportivi che, a piedi, cercano puntualmente di raggiungere dignitosamente il traguardo dopo aver coperto 10 chilometri del periplo monegasco, con partenza ed arrivo sul porto di Monaco (per info: www.ugirudenatale.com) in realtà, ad accendere l’atmosfera festiva del principato, è il Villaggio di Natale, allestito a partire dal 5 dicembre fino al 4 gennaio, e ispirato al tema “Natale sui tetti”, tutti i giorni a partire dalle 11 del mattino. Per chi è a corto d’idee su come iniziare il 2015, se non fosse sufficiente l’invito aperto a tutti a brindare sul Porto, con DJ e fuochi d’artificio, ben visibili anche sulla piazza del Casinò, ecco una carrellata delle feste più “in” proposte nei locali monegaschi. Il tema “Metamorfosi” è quello scelto dall’Hotel de Paris. Dopo quasi tre mesi di impegnativi lavori di ristrutturazione, riaprono le porte la Salle Empire e il mitico Américan Bar. In programma il tradizionale pranzo di Natale, oltre al veglione di Capodanno. Per tutti è garantita l’emozione rarefatta ed effimera della suggestiva Piazza del Casinò, allestita con decine di abeti colorati e illuminati: un sogno, che di sera si ammanta di magia. Ovviamente le sorprese non mancheranno, anche per le famiglie di passaggio. I turisti saranno accolti da Babbo Natale nella Salle Belle Epoque dell’Hotel Hermitage con il «Thé et Goûters de Noël », dalle 15 alle 18 del 24 dicembre. Novità 2014, per i più golosi, da non perdere il tradizionale e gustoso appuntamento con il “Tronchetto di Natale”, un profumato quanto sofisticato dolce composto da biscotti al cacao, pasta frolla, cioccolato al latte e lamponi, ideato quest’anno dallo chef pasticciere Nicolas Baygourry, ispirandosi alle forme della cupola Eiffel. Sempre nel Carré d’or, in occasione dei 10 anni dell’Hotel Metropole, sono in programma serate speciali per rivivere le emozioni di un tempo. Dalla lobby, decorata con atmosfere dai toni rossi, verdi e dorati che riflettono la magia del Salon des Princes, con gli alberi decorati con centinaia di biscotti profumati e le carrozze di un piccolo trenino elettrico, ai più raffinati. Per questi ultimi palati fini lo chef stellato Joël Robuchon e Christophe Cussac propongono menù speciali per le feste: la sera del 6 gennaio, tra l’altro, sarà dedicata alla celebrazione del Natale Ortodosso con tanto di champagne, caviale, aragoste e cappone, come vuole la tradizione. Infine, per continuare a vivere atmosfere magiche, divertenti e con un pizzico di adrenalina, da non dimenticare la 39a edizione del Festival International du Cirque de Monte Carlo che quest’anno, dal 15 al 25 gennaio, propone l’esibizione del gruppo Flick Flak Flyers, motociclisti acrobatici con un numero da togliere il fiato. E poi, ancora trapezisti del calibro della troupe belga-svedese Balagan, oltre all’attesa performance, sulle note latino-americane, del funambolo italiano Eric Niemen e quella dei Silver Stones, acrobati noti per l’incredibile combinazione di esercizi compiuti sospesi nel vuoto. In tutto, in concorso, quest’anno è prevista una trentina di numeri ma a vincere, come al solito, sarà il divertimento del pubblico, atteso numerosissimo anche per la quarta edizione della “New Generation”, spettacolo circense dedicato ai giovani, previsto dal 31 gennaio al 1 febbraio! | Des Fêtes inoubliables à Monaco Si avec la Cursa di Natale, récemment rebaptisée ‘’U giru di Natale’’, Monaco se prépare à l’invasion pacifique de centaines de sportifs que, à pied, essayent ponctuellement de rejoindre l’arrivée après avoir parcouru le 10 kilomètres du périmètre monégasque, avec départ et arrivée au Port de Monaco (infos sur www. ugirudenatale.com) en effet, c’est à partir du 5 décembre jusqu’au 4 janvier, tous les jours de 11 heures du matin, que le Village de Noël, avec comme thème ‘’Noël sur les toits’’ éveille l’ambiance festive de la Principauté. Pour qui n’a pas d’idées sur comment commencer le 2015, si l’invitation adressée à tout le monde à boire un verre au Port, avec des DJ et des feux d’artifice qu’il est possible de bien voir aussi de la place du Casino n’est pas suffisante, voici un aperçu des fêtes les plus exclusives que nous proposent les boites de nuits monégasques. Le thème ‘’Métamorphose’’ est celui choisi par l’Hôtel de Paris. Après près de 3 mois de travaux, rouvrent leur portes la Salle Empire et le fameux American Bar. Le programme prévoit le traditionnel repas de Noël ainsi que le diner de la Saint Sylvestre. Pour tout

le monde l’ambiance est assurée, fine et éphémère, de la charmante Place du Casino, préparée avec des dizaines de sapins colorés et éclairés : un rêve, que le soir s’habille de charme. Le surprises ne manqueront évidement pas aussi aux familles de passage. Les touristes seront accueillis par le Père Noël à la Salle Belle Époque de l’Hôtel Hermitage avec le ‘’Thé et Gouter de Noël’’, de 15 à 18 heures du 24 décembre. La nouveauté 2014 pour les plus gourmands, à ne pas louper la traditionnelle ‘’Buche de Noël’’ un gâteau autant parfumé que recherché, composé de biscuits au cacao, de pâte sablée, de chocolat au lait et de framboises, que cette année à été conçu par le maitre pâtissier Nicolas Baygourry, inspiré par les formes de la coupole Eiffel. Toujours dans le carré d’or, à l’occasion des 10 ans de l’Hôtel Métropole, des soirées spéciales sont prévues pour revivre les émotions d’autre fois. De la lobby, décorée d’une atmosphère au tons rouges, verts et dorés qui reflètent le charme du Salon des Princes, avec les arbres décorés de centaines de biscuits parfumés et les carrosses d’un petit train électrique, aux plus anoblis. U PAN DE NATALE a

chi si dovesse trovare in vacanza nel Principato di Monaco durante il periodo natalizio e volesse approfittarne per scoprire un’antica abitudine monegasca, il consiglio è di entrare in una panetteria e chiedere il ‘Pan de Natale’. Di cosa si tratta? Lo abbiamo chiesto al Segretario Generale del Comitato Nazionale delle Tradizioni monegasche, Michel Coppo che, affiancato dal Presidente Alain Sangiorgio, abbiamo incontrato nella sede del Museo della Vecchia Monaco, sulla Rocca. Ad accoglierci uno scrigno ricco di oggetti e documenti antichi, aperto gratuitamente al pubblico per 3 giorni alla settimana, da giugno a settembre: oltre 5.400 visitatori registrati solo quest’anno. “U Pan de Natale, con Santa Devota, è una delle tradizione più antiche e viene tramandata da generazioni dalle principali famiglie monegasche, grazie appunto all’impegno del nostro Comitato che, proprio nel 2014, ha festeggiato i 90 anni dalla nascita - racconta Michel Coppo a Sanremo.it. Da quattro anni, il successo dell’iniziativa è da imputare alla disponibilità delle tre principali panetterie di Monaco (Costa, Epi d’or e Mullot) e di un grosso centro commerciale, che, a partire dal 22 dicembre, elaborano per noi questa ‘pagnottina’ per

offrirla in cambio di una donazione che viene destinata a tre associazioni caritatevoli”. Il Pan de Natale è realizzato secondo le indicazioni fornite da Lazare Sauvaigo: è rotondo, decorato con gherigli di noci disposti a forma di croce latina su cui è appoggiato un ramoscello d’olivo, come descritto nella ricetta in monegasco, qui riportata. Per tutti coloro che da generazioni non mancano di fornirsi della loro forma composta da farina di frumento, acqua e lievito, il momento più suggestivo e atteso è la sua benedizione. Questa, di solito, avviene alla fine della Messa di Natale, celebrata la notte del 24 dicembre nella Cattedrale, alla presenza dell’Arcivescovo che con il vino consacrato officia il rito di buon auspicio. Il giorno successivo il Pan de Natale, tagliato in tranci, viene offerto agli ospiti in segno di benvenuto o semplicemente consumato durante il pranzo ma solo dopo che il più anziano della famiglia ha pronunciato a voce bassa la formula “che il male se ne vada e che il bene arrivi”. A questo punto, non resta che estendere lo stesso augurio a tutti i lettori di Sanremo.it.

| Les traditions monégasques : U PAN DE NATALE Pour ceux qui se trouveront en vacance dans la Principauté de Monaco pendant la période des fêtes de Noël et veulent en profiter pour découvrir une ancienne habitude monégasque, notre conseil est de rentrer dans une boulangerie et demander le ‘’Pan de Natale’’. De quoi s’agit il ? Nous avons posé la question au Secrétaire Général du Comité National des Traditions monégasques, Michel Coppo que, auprès du Président Alain Sangiorgio, que nous avons rencontré dans le siège du Musée du Vieux Monaco, sur le Rocher. À nous accueillir un écrin riche en anciens objets et documents, ouvert gratuitement 3 jours par semaine, de juin à septembre : plus que 5.400 visiteurs enregistrés seulement cette année. ‘’U Pan de Natale, avec Sainte Dévote, est une des traditions les plus anciennes qui se transmet depuis des générations entre les principales familles monégasques, grâce à l’engagement de notre Comité que, juste en 2014 a fêtè les 90 ans depuis sa naissance- raconte Michel Coppo à Sanremo.it- Depuis quatre ans le succès de l’initiative est dû à la disponibilité des trois principales boulangeries de Monaco (Costa, Épi d’or et Mullot) et d’un grand centre commercial que, à partir du 22

décembre, préparent pour nous ce ‘’pain’’ pour l’offrir en échange d’une donation qui est destinée à trois associations de charité’’. Le Pan de Natale est réalisé suivant les indications fournies par Lazare Sauvaigo : il est rond, décoré avec des cerneaux de noix disposés en forme de croix latine sur la quelle est posé une branche d’olivier, comme décrit dans la recette monégasque ici rapportée. Pour tous ceux que depuis des générations ne manque pas de se fournir de leur pain composé de farine de froment, eau et levure, le moment le plus suggestif et attendu est celui de sa bénédiction. Elle se fait, habituellement, à la fin de la Messe de Noël, célébrée la nuit du 24 décembre dans la Cathédrale, en présence de l’Archevêque que avec le vin consacré officie le rituel de bon augure. Le jour d’après le Pan de Natale, coupé en tranches, est offert aux invités comme un signe de bienvenue ou tout simplement consommé pendent le repas, mais seulement après que le plus ancien de la famille ait prononcé à voix basse la formule ‘’que le mal s’en aille et que le bien arrive’’. L’ ambiziosa programmazione, organizzata per “mettere in luce la diversità e la ricchezza delle relazioni esistenti tra i due Stati”, come ha sottolineato lo stesso sovrano monegasco SAS il Principe Alberto II, avrà l’obiettivo di trasmettere colori, sapori e spirito di una popolazione che per ragioni storiche e strategiche ha già preso dimora in questo angolo di paradiso negli anni glamour della Belle Epoque del XIX secolo, soggiornando in Costa Azzurra nei tiepidi mesi invernali. Che siano promozioni o spettacoli, è evidente come l’iniziativa, visti i numeri e la qualità dei protagonisti, sia riuscita a coinvolgere sul piano culturale, scientifico, economico, gastronomico e artistico, decine di entità, istituzioni, organizzazioni internazionali pubbliche e private. Oltre ad essere, a giudizio di chi scrive, un chiaro segnale di come la comunità russofona che attualmente lavora e soggiorna tra Sanremo e Saint Tropez voglia condividere e raccontare la propria storia, fatta di grandi bellezze spesso nascoste o poco note al grande pubblico. Il debutto dell’Anno della Russia nel Principato di Monaco è programmato per il 19 dicembre, al Grimaldi Forum, con l’arrivo in scena per tre giorni della Compagnia di danza del Bolchoi che propone, dopo il successo riscosso a Mosca lo scorso 4 luglio, l’opera “La Mégère apprivoisée” adattata sulle note di Chostakovitch ed espressamente creata dal direttore artistico dei balletti monegaschi Jean-Chhristophe Maillot, con la direzione musicale del Maestro Igor Dronov e la partecipazione dell’Orchestra Filarmonica di Monte-Carlo. E poi, ancora, tra gennaio e febbraio, spazio a esposizioni importanti come quella in programma alla galleria Marlborough con le opere dell’artista Grisha Bruskin, di Léon

Zeytline al ristorante Quai Des Artistes o con le Oeuvres Russes accolte alla Fine Art Gallery di Monaco. Immancabili, ovviamente, le grandi serate dedicate al Natale e al Capodanno Russo, senza dimenticare l’apertura, dal 19 al 22 gennaio, delle “Saisons de la Gastronomie Russe”, rassegna di alta gastronomia organizzata al Café de Paris e presso l’hotel Hermitage che proprio il 21 gennaio, grazie all’iniziativa della Monaco Méditerranée Foundation, accoglie alle 18.30 una conferenza animata dall’Ambasciatore della Federazione Russia a Parigi, SE Alexandre Constantinovitch Orlov. L’Anno della Russia a Monaco è inoltre il filo conduttore che ha ispirato l’allestimento dell’esposizione estiva del Grimaldi Forum, che dal 12 luglio al 6 settembre accoglie la mostra “De Chagall à Malevitch, la Révolution des Avant-Gardes” una raccolta unica di opere di artisti che hanno interpretatato la corrente culturale russa avanguardista dei primi del ‘900. E ancora tanti concerti, dibattiti e animazioni popolari, come la festa tradizionale russa detta Maslenitsa, qui ambientata attraverso la creazione di un villaggio effimero che dal 20 al 22 gennaio prenderà vita sulla darsena di Porto Ercole. | L’année de la Russie à Monaco Elle vont être 130 environ, les manifestations, les concerts et les évènements que, tout au long de 2015 animeront la principauté qui accueille officiellement l’Année de la Russie à Monaco. Le programme ambitieux, organisé pour ‘’mettre en évidence la diversité et la richesse des relations que se déroulent entre les deux états’’, comme l’a souligné le même souverain monégasque SAS Prince Albert II, aura comme but de transmettre les couleurs, les saveurs et l’esprit d’un peuple que pour des raisons historiques et de stratégie a déjà pris demeure dans cet angle de paradis pendent les années glamour de la Belle Époque du XIX siècle en séjournant en Côte d’Azur durant les tièdes mois d’hiver. Si trova a Cagnes sur Mer nel cuore della Costa Azzurra, l’ultima dimora di Pierre-Auguste Renoir, il grande pittore impressionista del XIX secolo.

, che trascorse la giovinezza a Parigi e successivamente, nei mesi estivi, a Essoyes, nella regione della Champagne, a causa delle precarie condizioni fisiche, si vide costretto a trasferirsi in un luogo dal clima più temperato. Scelse nel 1907 il Domain des Collettes, sulle alture di Nizza. La preferenza non fu casuale. Renoir conosceva molto bene il Midi: vi era già stato diverse volte, anche con l’amico e collega Claude Monet. Catturare l’ineguagliabile luce e i colori caldi rappresentò per lui l’ultima sfida pittorica. Uomo dai colori vibranti e sensuali, capì che quel luogo non era solo benefico per la sua salute, ma rinvigoriva l’impellente necessità di fissare sulla tela la sua gioia di vivere. “Questo è il pretesto per costruire una grande casa che accolga modelle, amici e domestici” disse il Maestro. E così in effetti avvenne. Fu un periodo molto produttivo per Renoir, che lavorò nel suo atelier fino alla fine dei suoi giorni, nonostante la malattia (era affetto da artrite reumatoide) l’avesse infine costretto a farsi legare con una benda il pennello alla mano che ormai non stringeva più. Non fu solo pittore, fu anche un raffinato scultore e ceramista; realizzerà, ispirato dai colori cangianti della costa, alcune delle sue opere più importanti. Pur segnato dalla malattia, non si lasciò piegare nello spirito e interpretò con la grazia e l’entusiasmo che lo contraddistinguevano, opere sature di gioia e di colore: il colore lui lo possedeva dentro di sé, e nessuna malattia avrebbe mai potuto sottrarglielo. Una volta disse: “Per me, un dipinto deve essere una cosa amabile, allegra e bella, sì, bella. Ci sono già abbastanza cose noiose nella vita senza che ci si metta a fabbricarne altre”. Un concetto che racchiude il senso dell’arte e anche del soggiorno di Renoir a Cagnes.

Dopo la morte, avvenuta nel 1919, la villa fu abitata dal figlio Claude fino al 1960. Quando poi divenne pubblica il Comune di Cagnes la trasformò in museo. Aperta tutto l’anno (chiusa il martedi) contiene numerose opere d’arte realizzate da Renoir. Dipinti e sculture che fanno rivivere con gli occhi del Maestro le sue stesse delicate emozioni e le sue preziose suggestioni. Particolare menzione meritano due dipinti che rappresentano la collina ove si erge la dimora, concessi in prestito dal Musée d’Orsay di Parigi: Paysage aux Collettes, del 1914, e La ferme des Collettes, del 1915. L’edificio è stato riaperto nel 2013 dopo 18 mesi di restauri. Al piano terra sono attualmente allestite le 17 sculture realizzate dal Maestro. Ai piani superiori sono visitabili le stanze dove la famiglia Renoir soggiornava, la cucina e i saloni con gli arredi originali. Si può ammirare inoltre l’atelier dove l’artista dipingeva: vi sono ancora i suoi cavalletti, la sua sedia a rotelle, i suoi pennelli e la sua tavolozza. Non si tratta solo di una rievocazione. E’ un vero e proprio tuffo dentro l’arte. Quel luogo magico parla di lui: tutto è straordinariamente vivo e qui il tempo pare quasi non essere passato. I suoi colori, le sue tele sono lì ad attenderlo. Nel grande parco circostante, tra gli ulivi secolari e i giardini fioriti, sembra ancora palpabile la sua presenza. Ci si aspetta di vederlo sbucare da qualche sentiero, impregnato dell’odore delle sue pitture a olio, mentre ci invita a prendere un thè.

Une conception qui explique soit le sens de l’art que celui du séjour de Renoir à Cagnes. Après sa mort, en 1919, c’est son fils qui habite la villa jusqu’en 1960. Une fois devenue publique la Mairie de Cagne la transforme en musé. Elle est ouverte toute l’année (fermée le mardi) et contient beaucoup d’œuvres d’arts réalisées par Renoir. Des tableaux et des sculptures que nous font revivre avec les yeux du Maitre ses même émotions et ses précieuses suggestions. Ils méritent une attention particulière, les deux tableaux représentant la colline où est érigée la maison, prêtés par le Musée d’Orsay de Paris. Paysage aux Collettes, de 1914, et La ferme des Collettes, de 1915. Le bâtiment a été rouvert en 2013 après 18 mois de travaux de restauration. Au rez de chaussée il y a actuellement 17 sculptures réalisées par le Maitre. Aux étages il est possible de visiter les chambres où vivait la famille Renoir, la cuisine et les salons avec les décors originels. Nous pouvons aussi voir l’atelier où l’artiste peignait : ses chevalets, son fauteuil roulant, ses pinceaux e sa palette sont encore là. Il ne s’agit pas seulement d’une évocation. C’est vraiment comme replonger dans l’art. Ce lieu charmant parle de lui : tout est extraordinairement vif et ici le temps semble ne pas être passé. Ses couleurs et ses toiles sont là et ils l’attendent. Dans le grand parc qu’entoure la villa, entre les oliviers centenaires et les jardins fleuris, sa présence semble encore palpable. Nous nous attendons à le voir sortir d’un des sentier, imbibé de l’odeur de ses peintures à l’huile, en train de nous inviter pour un thé

| Le dernier Renoir Elle est à Cagne sur Mer, au cœur de la Côte d’Azur, la dernière demeure de PierreAuguste Renoir, le grand peintre impressionniste du XIX siècle. L’artiste, que pendent sa jeunesse vit à Paris et par la suite, pendent les mois d’été, à Essoyes dans la région de Champagne, pour cause de son mauvais état physique, est obligé de déménager vers un climat plus doux. Il choisit en 1907 le Domaine des Collettes, sur les collines de Nice. Le choix n’est pas un cas. Renoir connait très bien le Midi : il y a déjà été plusieurs fois, même avec l’ami et collègue Claude Monet. Le fait de capturer l’incomparable lumière et les couleurs chaudes représente pour lui le dernier défi en tant que peintre. Un homme aux couleurs vibrantes et sensuelles, il comprend que ce lieu n’apporte pas seulement des bénéfices à sa santé, mais il redonne aussi force au besoin pressant de fixer sur toile sa joie de vivre. ‘’Ceci est le prétexte pour bâtir une grande maison pour accueillir des modèles, des amis et des domestiques’’ dit le Maitre. Et c’est donc ce qu’il arrive. C’est une période très productive pour Renoir, qui travaille dans son atelier jusqu’à la fin de ses jours, même si la maladie (il souffre d’une polyarthrite rhumatoïde) le contraint à se faire fixer avec un bandage le pinceau à la main qu’il n’arrive plus à fermer. Il n’est pas seulement un grand peintre, mais un fin sculpteur et un céramiste ; il réalise, inspiré par les couleurs changeantes de la côte, quelques unes entre ses œuvres les plus importantes. Bien que très malade, il ne perd pas l’esprit et il interprète avec la grâce et l’enthousiasme que le caractérisent, des œuvres pleines de joie et de couleurs : la couleur bleu qu’il a dans son esprit et qu’aucune maladie ne peut lui enlever. Per il percorso inverso, invece, il treno partirà alle 15:10 da Milano e dalle 16:56 da Genova. Thello. | Thello À partir du 14 décembre prochain Thello, premier opérateur ferroviaire alternatif pour le transport de passagers en France, va lancer une nouvelle ligne ferroviaire directe, entre le sud est de la France et l’Italie, contribuant ainsi à faciliter les échanges frontaliers. Cette ligne va permettre au habitants de la Région PACA (ProvenceAlpes-Cote d’Azur) de rejoindre l’Italie (et vice-versa) par le train à des prix très intéressants. Le train, appartient à la flotte Frecciabianca di Trenitalia, il partira tous les jours de Marseille à 15h30 et de Nice à 18h09. Pour le parcours envers, le train partira à 15h10 de Milan et à 16h56 de Gênes.

Thello. La nouvelle ligne MarseilleNice-Milan est la deuxième ligne ferroviaire internationale à venir réactivée par la compagnie Thello. Certaine de l’importance d’augmenter les liens entre France et Italie, Thello débute son activité en fin de 2011, reprenant la ligne du train nocturne Paris-Venise. Dal 14 febbraio al 4 marzo La Fete du Citron trasporterà i visitatori in oriente, con “Le Tribolazioni di un Limone in Cina”, questo il tema dell’edizione di quest’anno, ispirata al noto romanzo di Jules Verne. Le “Sfilate del Sole” colorano le domeniche, con animatori, fanfare e gruppi folkloristici che si danno alle danze incrociando i magnifici carri addobbati di agrumi. Al calar della notte, invece, i Giardini Biovès si illuminano, regalando uno spettacolo suggestivo, dove giochi di luci e musica si mescolano per dare un tocco magico alle sculture... al limone. La notte si anima con la sfilata dei carri e tutta la città è attraversata dalla festa, con trampolieri, acrobati e musica dal vivo per evocare i mitici personaggi di Jules Verne. La sfilata si conclude con gli spettacolari fuochi d’artificio sul mare. page 113

Come ogni anno, il Salone dell’Artigianato di Mentone e il Festival delle Orchidee accompagneranno la Festa nel Palais de l’Europe, regalando ai visitatori uno spazio di tranquillità. Si potranno degustare tutte le specialità della città come la limonata, il vino d’arancia e l’olio al limone. Spazio anche ai più piccoli, che avranno modo di partecipare alla classica battaglia di coriandoli davanti al palazzo municipale, dopo aver sfilato mostrando i loro costumi di carnevale. | Menton se colore d’or avec la traditionnelle fêtes du citron La fête du citron de Menton est un évènement unique au monde, que attire tous les ans des dizaine de milliers de visiteurs. Les jardins de Biovés s’habillent pendent 19 jours de la couleur du soleil, avec les majestueuses compositions d’agrumes pour les quelles ils sont employés jusqu’à 15 tonnes de citrons, appliqué un par un. é da sempre considerata la capitale del Carnevale francese. Spettacolari e variopinte sfilate illumineranno le notti e coloreranno le giornate di Nizza dal 13 febbraio all’1 marzo. L’evento invernale più importante della città attira ogni anno migliaia di persone da ogni parte del mondo. Lo scenario unico del Carnevale di Nizza, sulla Promenade des Anglais, é arricchito dalle eleganti battaglie di fiori, dove personaggi vestiti con costumi stravaganti lanciano al pubblico mimose, gerbere e gigli da carri decorati con splendide composizioni floreali, secondo un’antica tradizione iniziata nel lontano 1876. Ancora oggi, questo evento valorizza la qualità e la grande varietà floricola prodotta in Costa Azzurra: l’ 85% dei fiori utilizzati, infatti, è prodotto nella zona. Il Carnevale di Nizza 2015 é dedicato al “Re della Musica” e i 18 carri rispecchieranno l’interpretazione del tema in maniera scherzosa, ad opera degli esperti addobbatori.

Dietro la realizzazione di questi meravigliosi capolavori c’è un lavoro lungo e meticoloso, come sempre effettuato dai geniali fioristi in un tempo davvero ridottissimo. I costumi dei personaggi ospitati sui carri vengono creati in un atelier interamente dedicato all’evento: si tratta di modelli unici, creati appositamente per il Carnevale. La sera, tutti i carri sono illuminati e le sfilate accendono di mille luci il cuore di Nizza. Place Masséna, diventa così il palco della festa carnevalesca, con immagini proiettate su maxi schermi, giochi di luce spettacolari, accompagnati da gruppi musicali internazionali e ballerini provenienti da tutto il mondo accompagnano la sfilata dei carri che raggiungono fino a 16 metri di altezza. | La Côte d’Azur remet le masque et se prépare au carnaval de Nice Nice est considérée depuis toujours la capitale du Carnaval français. Des défilés spectaculaires et coloré vont illuminer les nuits et colorer les jours de Nice du 13 février au 1 mars. L’Évènement d’hiver le plus important de la ville attire tout les ans des milliers de personnes de partout dans le monde. Le scenario unique du Carnaval de Nice, sur la Promenade des Anglais, est enrichi d’ élégantes batailles de fleurs, où des personnage vêtus de costumes extravagants, lancent au public des mimosas, gerberas et lys depuis des chars décoré de splendides compositions florales, suivant une ancienne traditions commencée en 1876. Aujourd’hui cet évènement valorise encore la qualité et la grande variété florale produite en Côte d’Azur : le 85% des fleurs utilisées sont enfaite produites localement. Le Carnaval de Nice 2015 est dédiè au ‘’Roi de la Musique ‘’ et les 18 chars reflètent l’interprétation du thème de façon plaisante,

à l’œuvre d’experts décorateurs. Derrière la réalisation de ces merveilleux chefs-d’œuvre il y a un travail long et minutieux, fait comme toujours par des fleuristes géniales, en un temps vraiment très court. Les costumes des personnages sur les chars sont créés dans un atelier intègrement dédié à l’évènement : il s’agit de modèles uniques, produits exclusivement pour le Carnaval. Le soir les chars sont illuminés et les défilés allument de milliers de lumières le cœur de Nice. Place Masséna devient ainsi la scène de la fête de carnaval avec les images projetées sur des écran géants, des spectaculaires jeux de lumières, accompagné par des groupe musicaux et des danseurs venus du monde entier suivent le défilé des chars qui font jusqu’à 16 mètres de haut. Pendent deux semaines, Nice se transforme dans la capitale des masques, de la folie et du divertissement pour les grands et les petits. Il ne faut pas le perdre.

We meet the h llovely l Charlotte h l Pirroni, i i jjust crowned d Miss Cote d’Azur (on 3 August in Mougins), during the exclusive photo shoot for Sanremo.it. Concealed by a pair of huge sunglasses, we were greeted by two deep blue eyes that return an innocent and carefree look. Twenty-one years old, born in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Charlotte began to be passionately fond of the catwalk at the age of 13, when she attended her first beauty contest. Now that you have won the most coveted sash of the Riviera, what emotions did you feel when you heard your name? It was amazing, it did not seem real. I do not think I’ve ever experienced an emotion so strong. How did you celebrate? Immediately after the award ceremony, during the after-party, I was literally overwhelmed by reporters and photographers, so much so that I was exhausted when I arrived home at four in the morning. Too tired to go out again to celebrate. Tired but happy. So I celebrated the day after with my family, my mom, my dad and my sister in our garden. What do your parents think of the successes you are collecting? They are very happy and proud. They are always by my side in everything I do, they support me and give me the strength and the necessary charge to meet the challenges. Speaking of challenges, the next one is the final of Miss France on December 6th in Orleans. How will you prepare for it? In fact I will be with the group of Miss France in Paris from November in order to prepare for the event. I will deal with it as I did with all the others, relaxed and serene, and what will be will be. I like to treat it as a game, a wonderful opportunity to experience an adventure that happens only once in a lifetime. I feel very lucky. How was your life before becoming Miss Cote d’Azur? What has changed since wearing the crown? I am a student of Marketing and Management with a specialisation in Luxury, Fashion and Design, but I took a break for a year to devote myself completely to the fairy-tale that I’m living. As Miss Cote d’Azur I have many commitments, I often attend the basketball games in Monte Carlo, Cannes and Antibes and take part in the inauguration of events and boutiques. What are your plans for the future? I will pick up my studies where I left them because I want to work in fashion. I would like to deepen my knowledge in Paris at a school for designers. My dream is to design evening dresses. So you like dressing up ... Who are your idols in the fashion world? Actually, my every day look is very casual. Of course, if the occasion requires it I like to choose the perfect outfit carefully, I have a passion for shoes and handbags. My favourite designers are Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana and Yves Saint Laurent ... they are great. From the Cote d’Azur to Paris then. Will we see you here again? (She smiles) Yes, of course, this is my home! I’d like to come back, but not before travelling and living abroad for a few years. I want to experience as many things as possible, maybe working in the fashion industry. Okay, one last question, the one that everyone asks. Is there a prince next to the beauty queen? No, I’m single and happy.... Girls like this are very few and far between, who manage to captivate with a smile anyone who has the good fortune to meet her. Charlotte has a bright future ahead of her, so many dreams and a desire to not miss out on any opportunity to live a full life. And who knows? Maybe next year we will see her wearing the sash of Miss France. We truly believe it and cheer for her.

Pietro Agosti, the man who changed San Remo Sanremo would not be what it is today if it were not for Pietro Agosti. The engineer Pietro Agosti ... and the Mayor Pietro Agosti. Born in Bordighera in 1873, shortly after earning his degree in Civil engineering Agosti set to work, demonstrating from his first projects his ability and talent in creating true works of architecture. His career began, in fact, with the construction of the new church of Bussana in 1897. In the following years, he focused instead on the centre of San Remo, where he built the Hotel de Paris and the Hotel Savoy, inspired by the style of the Côte d’Azur. A strict and very precise person, he liked to take care personally of all the decorative details, always true to his classic taste. His name became known among the families of the north, which called him in order to design their homes in the Riviera dei Fiori. It was thus that he signed several villa projects in Corso degli Inglesi, inspired by the Liberty and Pompier styles. Many of his works have become a source of pride for San Remo: from the hotel Mediterranee to the King, Ines, Sunnyblack and Magnolie villas, the facade of the Cinema Centrale, just to name a few. In 1910 Agosti also received a commission from the Orthodox community in San Remo to build a representative church, strongly supported by Maria Alessandrovna. That is why the Russian church was built close to what today is the beautiful Corso Imperatrice, the promenade already dedicated to her as a thank you for her generous gift of palm trees to the city. In 1927 Agosti was appointed mayor of San Remo and one of his first achievements was to give a park to the town, making the City buy Villa Ormond, for which he designed the fountain in the lower gardens. During the same period, thanks to Agosti’s request, Mussolini established the Sanremo Casino as a gambling house, through a legislative decree which legalised a tolerated state that had been going on for years. This gave strong support to tourism in the Riviera di Ponente, a definition of the coast which was in fact promoted by Pietro Agosti himself. The rooms of the Casino, last October, hosted photos and designs by the engineer who changed the face of San Remo.

Sanremo relives the emotions of the Dolce Vita, thanks to a Russian production. The most beautiful sights, the most elegant locations and the breathtaking views are the backdrop for the “Bella Vita”, a drama that will be aired in 2015 on the main Moscow channel “Russia 1”. A love story starring a professor who ten years later meets again the great love of his life, a former student. The two get married but their marriage is opposed by his three children. In addition, undermining the serenity of the couple, there’s the return of a former boyfriend never forgotten by the young bride. A true love story whose ending is quite a surprise. Corso Inglesi, Piazza Bresca, Piazza Cisterna, Piazza Colombo, Corso Imperatrice, the Old Port, the Madonna della Costa and the hills of Sanremo are the beautiful views used as backdrop to the story skilfully narrated by the famous Russian director Alexander Zamyatin, whom we met on the set of the film, a beautiful villa with stunning views on the heights of our city. Why did you choose San Remo for filming the “Bella Vita”? “Sanremo is a fabulous place, a welcoming city, with always happy and smiling people and with a unique landscape”. Is it the first time that you have made a film in Italy? “Yes and I’m thrilled. I think I’ll be back for other productions”. What do you appreciate most in our country? “Without a doubt the cuisine. Your sardenaira is superb. And then I tasted risotto for the first time in my life, delicious. Not to mention your wine”. In your cast there are Russians and Ukrainians, how is their living together? “Good, it’s the beauty of cinema and television. Here there are no political hatreds. New Year’s Eve in San Re R Remo mo Should you decide to give yourself a special treat this year and spend a unique New Year’s Eve, your destination can only be Sanremo. The city lights up for the most magical night of the year, the music resounds in all the streets and the mild climate of the Riviera will allow you to enjoy all the organised shows under a starry sky. Live concerts, events and entertainment such as the Swing outdoors, will accompany you until midnight, the highlight of the evening when the traditional fireworks display, which each year attracts thousands of people, will begin at the Old Port, thrilling both young and old. For those wishing to spend a chic and unique evening, the Casino hosts a dinner in the elegant Roof Garden restaurant. The delicious courses of the Grand Veglione in San Remo’s Casino will be enlivened by music and entertainment. The theatre of the Casino will, as always, play a major role in New Year’s Eve. At 21.30 there will be the “Sing and Swing” show by Massimo Lopez, who will officially kick off “The Red and the Black,” season which will continue until the end of January, with meaningful names of Italian prose and emerging talents. During his show, Massimo Lopez will renew his repertoire of classic swing by revisiting the cornerstones of various authors such as Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Jimmy Van Heusen, Richard Rodgers and others. On stage he will be accompanied by the Jazz Company, one of the most prestigious Italian jazz and swing bands which has been following the actor during his tour performances for several seasons. At the Victory Morgana Bay, the elegant location between the two ports of Sanremo, New Year’s Eve becomes glamorous. The dinner show, with unique and delicious dishes, will be accompanied by acrobats, musicians and artists until the countdown to the New Year. After the fireworks show, the evening continues with live music until one o’clock, when the restaurant is transformed into a dance floor with the best music of Dj Andreino Voice and Marco Astegiano in order to start 2015 dancing in joy and in a truly spectacular ambiance. Celebrating Wines Christmas is coming and with it the related festivities. And what’s better than to open a good bottle of wine? Of course, the wine par excellence of the Christmas season is without a doubt “His Majesty“: the Champagne. The three grapes that have made this wine great: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, are cultivated in the northeast of France, in the Champagne region. The three main regions are the Vallee de la Marne, Montagne de Reims and Cote des Blancs, characterized by a soil composed primarily of gypsum, clay and limestone, ideal “terroirs” for these precious grapes. The production of champagne stands at around 350/400 million bottles per year, divided between various prestigious labels, from Dom Perignon to Cristal Roederer, from Krug Clos du Mesnil to Clos Ambonnay. But there are also many small farmers, the “vignerons”, who offer wines related to their land. Of course, champagne is a sparkling wine made with the classical method, in other words with a second fermentation in the bottle. There are different categories to be known for its consumption and which differ depending on the final sugar content. Here’s the list, starting with those in which the sugar is absent: nature (no sugar); extra brut (up to 6 grams / litre); brut (up to 15 g / l), which are the most common ones, although lately the demi-sec (up to 50 g / l) is coming back into vogue. Other parts of the world produce the same type of wine, but with other varieties and other terroirs. One of the top-selling wines in the world is the Spanish Cava (approximately 240 million bottles per year) produced in the Penedès, an area between Barcelona and Tarragona, with the typical Macabeo, Parellada and xarel-lo grapes. In Italy we have Franciacorta, a hilly area between Brescia and Lake Iseo. The grapes are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc. The total production is around 13 million bottles per year.

For the 6th consecutive year, San Remo Hits Award presents the satisfaction ranking for the songs of the Sanremo Festival, made possible thanks to its partners, which incontrovertibly certify it without the use of voting systems or juries, through dedicated digital measurement systems. Area Sanremo Sanremo, who whose hose organization org rganization is entrusted to Sanremo Promotion by the city of Sanremo, is the ‘”Academy” which opens the Festival’s doors to young people. Overcoming the tough selections after nearly three months of musical laboratory, only two (individuals or groups), the most talented, will take the stage of the most important Italian musical revue, which this year saw at its starting line no less than 477 aspiring singers representing all regions, except the Valle d’Aosta, aged between 16 and 36 years. All animated by the same desire: to be able to take the stage at Italy’s most famous festival and see their dream as an artist come true. A number of participants with a marked growth compared with the last edition of the Sanremo Area: 350 soloists, 21 couples and 21 groups crossed the Palafiori’s threshold. An Evaluation Committee, chosen by the director responsible Paolo Giordano and composed of Roby Facchinetti, historical voice of Pooh, Giusy Ferreri and Dargen D’Amico, has listened to all the artists and has chosen 40. Of these, only 8, also judged by Mogol, will audition before the Rai Commission in charge of choosing the two lucky singers who will take part in the 2015 Festival scheduled from 10th to 14th February and which will be conducted this year, for the first time, by Carlo Conti. Our city aims, year after year, more and more to encompass a 360° music range. The great dream of the City is to create a television talent show. Meanwhile, in Sanremo, some free Siae (Italian Royalties Collection Society) areas should be born shortly, dedicated to young musicians and singers who want to perform. Organic vegetables in Seborga are coloured The most unique and rare “vegetable” of Liguria, and maybe even of all Europe, grows 450 metres above sea level in the small town of Seborga, in Bordighera’s hinterland. Over the last few years, the “Monaci Templari” (Templar Monks) farm has specialised in researching and growing ancient plants and vegetables which are....coloured! You might wonder whether these are genetically modified products, but you would be wrong. Everything is strictly organic in the strips of land cultivated by Flavio Gorni and his wife Manuela. The farm’s show-piece is the Black Tomato of Seborga, an ancient traditional fruit which is so characteristic and tasty that after the famous chef Jamie Oliver’s appreciation, the farm received requests from the most prestigious and unexpected London address: Buckingham Palace. During the course of the latest Salone del Gusto in Turin, the Black Tomato of Seborga was chosen amongst the Slow Food products and was the object of great interest and curiosity by the patrons of the most important yearly gastronomic fair. This unusually coloured tomato is not the only coloured product to be grown in Montenero. The “Bietole Arcobaleno” (Rainbow Swiss Chards) were found by Flavio abandoned in a field and have now become a sought-after product, not just because of their excellent taste, but also because they give each dish a touch of unique originality. Together with the coloured stems of the chard, we also find the “Fave Rosa” (Pink Broad Beans), whose plant produces many small flowers before giving us its pods full of the delicious pale red beans. The latest arrival in the family is the “Mais Arcobaleno” (Rainbow Sweetcorn): the usually yellow cobs are instead made up of many coloured grains, polished and round like pearls. The seeds for growing these unique cobs in Italy are solely reserved for certified “organic” producers. The farm’s orchard offers unique delicacies: the young family harvests in fact “Almaty” red apples (both skin and pulp), an ancient variety from Kazakhstan. Even hens don’t lay “classic” eggs; in fact the “Araucane” and “Marans” breeds lay light blue and chocolate coloured ones. Saffron flowers will bloom in December. After collecting the pistils (before the sun comes up) they are separated from the petals and then dried next to the fireplace, from where they spread their wonderful aroma everywhere. Flavio and Manuela’s farm is certainly a business with a passion for unique and quality produce: the most coloured in the Liguria Riviera.

New excavations in the roman town off Albintimilium, the modern Ventimiglia on the border with France Last days of the excavation taking place in the archaeological area of Albintimilium which grew along the right bank of the river Nervia at the beginning of the II century B.C., following the defeat by the Romans of a coalition of populations from western Liguria: Sabatii, Ingauni and Intemelii. The research conducted by the International Institute for Liguria Studies in the area of the northern walls of the Roman town which originally belonged to the Augustan IX Regio Liguria, continues the tradition begun by the great Liguria archaeologist Nino Lamboglia, who revolutionised archaeology right here, by applying the stratigraphic method to an excavation site of a classical era. The Institute’s multi-year concession given by the Ministry for Culture and Tourism through the Department of Archaeology of Liguria, has enabled acquiring new exceptional historical and topographical data concerning Albintimilium and to continue the important training school set up in Ventimiglia in 1948 by Lamboglia, which has brought up entire generations of archaeologists between these excavations and artefacts. Investigations carried out throughout these years have enabled revealing a significant part of the walls which delimitated the ancient city to the North close to the Collasgarba slopes, and to discover a late ancient burial ground which was set up in the area after being abandoned following the first barbaric invasions. Dozens of students and young researches participate annually to this excavation, which is currently the only one taking place in the Roman site of Albintimilium, one of the main Liguria archaeological realities, whose walls, roads, thermal baths, theatre, insulae and domus with mosaic floors and frescoed walls constitute one of the major testimonies of the Roman period in our region.

winter. Sailing is better in winter ter Thanks to the wonderful climate of the Riviera, the activities of the Yacht Club Sanremo never stop. In December, with two legs of the “Autumn in Regatta” and in January with two other weekends, the 31st edition of the Winter Championship West Liguria never stops. This is certainly the highest level winter league in northern Italy and sees more than 50 boats fighting for the award. In the last days of the year we find the International Meeting of the Mediterranean, Cup Kinder + Sport which gathers hundreds of young sailors from all the European countries in Sanremo. An event that every year becomes more and more important in the international scene of the very young. Youth activity with our crews training constantly in order to achieve even more extraordinary results than in 2014 also continues.

Tall, competent and beautiful We’re referring to the athletes of two of the most prestigious ladies volleyball teams, Leningradka San Pietroburgo and Proton Balakovo which chose the Riviera dei Fiori in October, during the period of the World Championships held in Italy, for the last part of their training before the start of the Superleague, the equivalent of the Italian A1 category. The Saint Petersburg team stayed for more than two weeks, carrying out intensive training split between Sanremo and Ospedaletti. Profiting by the beautiful days, the volleyball players fully enjoyed the cycle path by the sea, an actual added value for this part of Liguria. Leningradka’s stay also benefited two Cote d’Azur teams, Le Cannet and Saint Raphael who were the sparring partners for two spectacular France-Russia matches held in the welcoming gym of Ospedaletti. A curious fact is that Simona Rinieri, the famous Italian player who won the World Championship with Italy in 2002, was a part of the Leningradka team. The enthusiastic visit by Proton only lasted for five days and was entirely concentrated in the Town of Flowers, where the really tall players did not go unnoticed. In addition to appreciating tahe climate and doing a little shopping, the girls from Balakovo (more than 3,300 km from Sanremo!) “found time” to win the 30th Sanremo Cup Memorial Tessitore, the prestigious tournament whose Roll of Honour lacked precisely the name of a Russian team.

The tourist and literary imagery unites locations, exploiting almost identical features in the neighbouring areas, both characterized by healthy sea and landscape sweetness. As it happens, however, in 1887, the French political and intellectual Stéphen Liégeard publishes the “Côte d’Azur” guidebook, a detailed notebook which describes a trip from Hyeres to Genoa, and which highlights the history, villages and pleasant typical characteristics of the Mediterranean coast. Thanks to the success of this book, the term Cote d’Azur in a short time becomes the perfect label for the sea places on the French coast whose symbolic capital is Nice. A second emotional geography after the one that had already built the tourist image of the Riviera and, thanks to the effectiveness of the literary and artistic representations, even today brings to mind the ideas of vacation, leisure and luxury, sea views and attractive flowering gardens. Choose which places you wish to visit and what to call this land of dreams, whether Riviera or Côte d’Azur. Never mind the name, the important thing is to live it in order to discover it day after day.

Between the Riviera and the Cote d’Azur zur, the emotional geography of a shoreline There are places where the physical geography of the area creates a symbolic and emotional geography. We are in Liguria, in the Riviera di Ponente, the sum between the historical definition of the Riviera, which sees it as an integral part of the territories of the magnificent Maritime Republic of Genoa and the neighbouring French Riviera, a “sister” country, with very similar landscape and land features. In the Middle Ages the name Riviera included the coastline of Liguria: Genoa at the centre and at its sides the West and East coasts. The earliest mention of the term “Riviera” dates back in fact to June 14th 1180, traced in an old notary cartulary of Savona in which the foundation of a trading company in the Riviera is recorded. A few years later, in 1198, in a notary act of Genoa, we discover that the term Riviera has been extended and includes to the west the area up to Montpellier. From the 17th century onwards, with commerce becoming more frequent and numerous trips intensifying across Europe creating the noble tradition of the Grand Tour, the name Riviera is associated more with an image built on fascination. Thus the Riviera between Genoa and the Principality of Monaco became a place of myth, reinforced by artistic representations (Monet, Matisse, Chagall, Renoir, Picasso, ...), literary works (“Doctor Antonio” by Giovanni Ruffini, released in Scotland in 1855), fabulous parks (the Hanbury Gardens) and beautiful architectural constructions (Charles Garnier, Le Corbusier) highlighting the mild and pleasant climate, the enchanted landscapes and a nature consisting of lush plants and flowers. Riviera then goes on to define not so much a geographical area but a tourist profile. It is the Liguria Riviera, but also the French one, which starts just over the border in Ventimiglia. And the international nature of the definition is demonstrated by the use of the unchanged word Riviera in several European languages.

Monegasque Traditions: U PAN DE NATALE For those who find themselves on vacation in Monaco during Christmas time and would like to take the opportunity to discover ancient Monegasque traditions, the advice is to go into a bakery and ask for “Pan de Natale” (Christmas bread). What is it? We asked the Secretary General of the National Committee of Monegasque Traditions, Michel Coppo, whom we met in the home of the Museum of Old Monaco on the Rocca, flanked by President Alain Sangiorgio. To welcome us a treasure chest full of objects and ancient documents, open free to the public for three days a week, from June to September: over 5,400 registered visitors this year alone. “U Pan de Natale”, with Saint Devote, is one of the oldest traditions and is passed on down through generations of the main Monegasque families, thanks to the efforts of our Committee that has celebrated the 90th anniversary of its birth in 2014 - says Michel Coppo to Sanremo.it. The success of the initiative has been possible over the past four years thanks to the availability of the three major bakeries in Monaco (Costa, Epi d’or and Mullot) and to a large shopping centre, which begin preparing this ‘loaf’ from December 22nd and offer it in exchange for a donation benefiting three charities”. The Pan de Natale is made according to the directions given by Lazare Sauvaigo: it is round, decorated with walnuts in the shape of a Latin cross on which an olive branch rests, as is described in the recipe written in Monegasque dialect, reported here. For all those who for generations have not failed to acquire their loaf, consisting of wheat flour, water and yeast, the most striking and expected moment is its blessing. This usually occurs at the end of the Christmas Mass, celebrated on the night of 24th December in the Cathedral in the presence of the Archbishop who officiates the rites of best wishes with the consecrated wine. The next day the Pan de Natale, cut into slices, is offered to guests as a sign of welcome or simply consumed during lunch, but only after the eldest of the family pronounces in a low voice the words “may evil go away and may good arrive”. There will be about 130 performances, concerts and events which will animate the principality throughout 2015 in order to officially welcome the Year of Russia in Monaco. The ambitious program, organised in order to “highlight the diversity and richness of the existing relations between the two states”, as pointed out by the sovereign of Monaco HSH Prince Albert II, will aim to convey colours, flavours and the spirit of a population that, for historical and strategic reasons already took up residence in this corner of paradise during the glamorous years of the Belle Époque of the nineteenth century, by staying in the French Riviera in the warm winter months. Be they promotions or shows, it is clear that the initiative, given the numbers and quality of the protagonists, has managed to involve dozens of entities, institutions, international organizations, both public and private, on a cultural, scientific, economic, artistic and gastronomic level. In addition to being, in the opinion of this writer, a clear sign of how the Russian-speaking community which currently works and lives between Sanremo and Saint Tropez wants to share and tell its story, made up of great beauty, often hidden or little known to the general public. The debut of the Year of Russia in the Principality of Monaco is scheduled for December 19th, at the Grimaldi Forum, with the arrival on the scene for three days of the dance company of the Bolshoi offering, after the success in Moscow last July 4th, the work “ La Mégère apprivoisée “ adapted to the notes of Shostakovich and expressly created by the artistic director of the ballet Monegasque Jean-Christophe Maillot, with the musical direction of Maestro Igor Dronov and the participation of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Monte-Carlo. And then, again, in January and February, there will be exhibitions such as the one scheduled at the Marlborough Gallery with works by the artist Grisha Bruskin, of Léon Zeytline at the restaurant Quai Des Artistes or with the Oeuvres Russes housed at the Fine Art Gallery in Monaco. Inevitable, of course, the great evenings dedicated to the Russian Christmas and New Year, not to mention the opening, from January 19th to 22nd, of the “Saisons de la Gastronomie Russe”, a top-class gastronomy overview organized at the Café de Paris and at the hotel Hermitage which, thanks to the initiative of the Monaco Méditerranée Foundation, welcomes a conference conducted by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Paris, RE Alexandre Constantinovitch Orlov at 18.30 on January 21st. The Year of Russia in Monaco is also the thread that inspired the setting of the summer exhibition at the Grimaldi Forum, from July 12th to September 6th, which will welcome the exhibition “De Chagall à Malevich, la Révolution des Avant-Gardes” a unique collection of works by artists who interpreted the Russian cultural avant-garde trend of the early ‘900. There will also be plenty of concerts, debates and popular events, such as the Russian traditional festival called Maslenitsa, here set up through the creation of an ephemeral village that from 20th to 22nd January will come to life on the docks of Porto Ercole. The full calendar is supervised, on behalf of the government of Monaco, by HE Henri Fissore, former Ambassador of Monaco in Rome, who here is the coordinator of the initiative expressly desired by the Sovereign of Monaco “to highlight the relationship that has linked the principality to Russia for more than 150 years”. THE LAST RENOIR The final resting place of Pierre-Auguste Renoir, the great nineteenth century Impressionist painter, is located in Cagnes Sur Mer, on the French Riviera. The artist, who spent his youth in Paris and later, in the summer months, at Troyes, in the Champagne region, was forced to move to a place with a warmer climate because of his poor physical condition. In 1907 he chose the Domain des Collettes, on the heights of Nice. The choice was not casual. Renoir was very familiar with the Midi, he had already been there several times with his friend and colleague Claude Monet. The ultimate painting challenge for him was to capture its unique light and warm colours. A man of vibrant and sensual colours, he realised that the place was not only beneficial to his health, but would energise the urgent need to fix his love of life on canvas. “This is an excuse to build a big house that welcomes models, friends and pets,” said the Master. And so indeed it was. It was a very

Thello, the first alternative rail passenger operator in France, will launch a new direct train line between the south-east of France and Italy starting next December 14th, thus contributing to facilitating cross border trade. This line will allow residents of the PACA region (Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur) to reach Italy (and vice versa) by train with very interesting prices. The train, belonging to the Frecciabianca Trenitalia fleet, will depart daily from Marseille at 15:30 and from Nice at 18:09. For the opposite direction, instead, the train will depart at 15:10 from Milan and 16:56 from Genoa. Thello The new Marseille-Nice-Milan line is the second international railway line to be reactivated by the Thello company. Certain of the importance of encouraging links between France and Italy, Thello launches its business in late 2011, taking on the night line of the Paris-Venice train. Mentone turns gold with the traditional Lemon Festival. The Lemon Festival in Mentone is a unique event which annually attracts tens of thousands of visitors. The Gardens Biovès dress up in the colour of the sun for 19 days with the majestic compositions of citrus fruits, for which up to 15 tons of lemons are used, applied one by one. From February 14th to March 4th, La Fete du Citron will transport visitors to the Far East, with “The Tribulations of a Lemon in China”, the theme of this year, inspired by the famous novel by Jules Verne. The “Parades of the Sun” will colour Sundays, with entertainers, brass bands and folk groups dancing across the magnificent floats decorated with citrus fruit. At nightfall, however, the Gardens Biovès will light up, creating a fascinating show, where the play of light and music combines to give a magical touch to the lemon.... sculptures. The night comes alive with the parade and the whole city is crossed by the party, with stilt walkers, acrobats and live music to evoke the mythical characters of Jules Verne. The parade ends with a spectacular fireworks display at sea. As happens every year, the Craft Fair of Mentone and the Festival of Orchids will accompany the party at the Palais de l’Europe, giving

The French Riviera puts on its mask and gets ready for the Nice Carnival Nice has always been considered the capital of the French Carnival. Spectacular and colourful parades will light up the night and brighten the day in Nice from 13th February to 1st March. The most important winter event of the city attracts thousands of people from all over the world. The unique setting of the Carnival of Nice, on the Promenade des Anglais, is enriched by elegant flower battles, where characters dressed in outlandish costumes launch mimosas, gerberas and lilies to the public from their floats decorated with beautiful floral arrangements, according to an ancient tradition that began in 1876. Today, this event enhances the quality and variety of the floriculture produced by the French Riviera: 85% of the flowers used, in fact, is produced in the area. Nice Carnival 2015 is dedicated to the “King of Music” and 18 floats by expert decorators reflect the interpretation of the theme in a joking manner. Behind the making of these wonderful masterpieces there is a lengthy and meticulous work, as always carried out by the talented florists in a really short time. The costumes of the characters hosted on the floats are created in a workshop entirely dedicated to the event: these are unique designs, created specifically for the carnival. In the evening, all the floats are illuminated and their parades illuminate the heart of Nice with thousands of lights. Place Massena becomes the stage of the carnival festival, with images projected on giant screens, spectacular lights, international bands and dancers from all over the world who accompany the parade of floats that can reach even 16 metres in height. Nice for two weeks turns into the capital of masks, madness and fun for adults and children. A must.

productive period for Renoir, who worked in his studio until the end of his life, despite the illness (he was suffering from rheumatoid arthritis) finally forced him to have a brush tied to his hand with a bandage because he could no longer grip it. He was not only a painter, he was also a fine sculptor and ceramist; inspired by the changing colours of the coast, he gave birth to some of his most important masterpieces. Although marked by illness, he did not allow it to bend his spirit and he interpreted works saturated with joy and colour with the grace and enthusiasm that always distinguished him: the colour he had in himself, and no disease could ever take it from him. He once said: “For me, a painting must be something lovable, cheerful and pretty, yes, beautiful. There are enough boring things in life without us fabricating others”. A concept that embodies the meaning of art and also of Renoir’s stay in Cagnes. After his death in 1919 the house was occupied by his son Claude until 1960. When it then became public the City of Cagnes turned it into a museum. Open all year round (closed on Tuesdays) it contains numerous works of art by Renoir. Paintings and sculptures that bring to life his own delicate emotions and his valuable suggestions seen through the eyes of the Master. A special mention must be given to two paintings of the hill where the house stands, on loan from the Musée d’Orsay in Paris: Paysage aux Collettes, 1914, and La ferme des Collettes, 1915. The building was re-opened in 2013 after 18 months of restoration. On the ground floor the 17 sculptures created by the Master are currently set up. Upstairs there are the rooms where the Renoir family lived, the kitchen and living rooms with the original furnishings. You can also admire the studio where the artist painted: his stands, his wheelchair, his brushes and his palette are still there. It is not just a reenactment. It’s a real plunge into art. That magical place speaks of him: everything is extraordinarily alive and time seems not to have passed. His colours, his paintings are there waiting for him. In the surrounding park, among the olive trees and flower gardens, his presence still seems palpable. We expect to see him emerge from some path, soaked in the smells of his oil paintings, and invite us to have a cup of tea.
