A COUNTRY WEDDING Words By Sarah Humphreys

Photography By Poppy K Photography

Growing up in the countryside, it was a natural decision for Beth & Josh's wedding to reflect everything they loved in life Beth & Josh got married at Corley Church on 22nd August , for the wedding reception they then went on to a working barn on Josh’s family yard, they travelled by tractor from the Church to the barn for their equestrian / rustic themed wedding. " The barn was perfect as it was a blank canvas and we could really make it our own, me and josh both grew up in the countryside from driving tractors and excavators to climbing straw bales we knew this was what we wanted to create a relaxed environment , " said Beth "As for the equestrian elements we can put that down to my lifelong passion for horses . We had a blended theme" continued Beth " which combined Equestrian/country side and rustic elements. By mixing them and including handmade details we created the personal , relaxed country feel. We wanted a small wedding surrounded by the people who loved us and wanted to share our happiness. " "It would of been a head scratching moment for most but we had the vision to transform the barn into the magical and perfect setting for our Rustic wedding. It meant our little boy Riley and the other guest children could be safe and enjoy the space during our reception" said Beth " As it was based on a farm we were very lucky to have lots of pieces round the yard that suited our theme that we could decorate. Old wheelbarrows soon had flowers in and the old tractor and Our land rover defender were soon parked up with bunting on." "My wedding dress was an A line style " said Beth " to complete my dress and for my something blue I cut a heart out of my sons first blue baby grow and hand stitched it into the underskirt of the dress. My shoes that I wore to the ceremony were just plain white satin kitten heeled shoes , then for after the ceremony I changed into converse trainers which had Mrs Edwards written on the side and the date of the wedding on the sale of the shoe. ood friends of the couple Sharon and Lee Ali are owners of west acre garden centre “They really pulled it out of the bag for us “said the bride” We picked the flowers up fresh the morning of the wedding, the flowers where perfect they matched every aspect of our theme. I knew I wanted my bridal party flowers to have a loose natural feel including lots of wild flowers to match our venue. “We were lucky to still have wild flowers out in the fields.” continues Beth. “Which were picked and placed in decorated tins around the top layer of bricks in the barn. The younger members of the wedding party particularly enjoyed this way of getting involved. Even a lot of equestrian items such as saddles, snaffle bits, and even my riding boots made it to the table filled with Gipsophelia, the ceiling was adorned with old wooden ladders with flowers and tea lights hanging from them.” said Beth.

“The entire family spent weeks painting, sticking, gluing, sanding to create every piece of this wedding. The time and effort the everyone put in was outstanding. Go with what makes you happy” concluded Beth “and what you want and stick to it, it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to be good we had the best day of our lives and the simplicity of it was unreal use your imagination and just enjoy every moment from the prep to the tidying up the next day. The perfect wedding doesn’t have to cost £20,000. As long as you are surrounded by the people you love and share your happiness that’s all that really matters.”

GILDED GOLD Words By Sarah Humphreys

Photography By Tinaclare | .art

With the stunning backdrop of The Leicester Guildhall, I knew a atmospheric photo shoot would look amazing with the photography skills of Tinaclare | .art. With the Guildhall being one of the finest surviving timber-framed medieval halls in England it has been a focus of civic life in Leicester for more than 600 years. This Grade I listed building dates back to 1390 and retains much of its medieval appearance and sense of the past. The Guildhall is set in the heart of Leicester’s old town, an area steeped in history, famous for the discovery of King Richard III’s remains and home to Leicester Cathedral with its beautiful gardens. Imagine your wedding day in a stunning medieval setting where Parliament and the borough council met, municipal feasts were held and where Shakespeare’s players took to the stage. With this historic building in mind, we collaborated to create a bridal focus photo shoot. Nicola Anne Bridal provided us with a selection of her bespoke dresses which were perfectly complemented by Serenity Kate Couture bridal hair accessories. Sheila of Saffron Ivory created a variety of hair styles while Bethany Welch worked her make-up artistry on our model to create a natural hair & make- up. You can certainly create a statement in The Great Hall, it is a stunning room with murals dating back to the 17th-century showing the arms of the borough, large medieval windows, fine brass chandeliers and walls lined in elegant dark oak wooden panelling, it would certainly be a unique venue to say ' I Do ' If you are looking for a more intimate ceremony or drinks reception why not choose the majestic Mayor’s Parlour, with carved oak panelling, an elaborate 17th-century fireplace and a stunning 15th-century stained glass window. There is also a enclosed courtyard, which is the perfect space for hosting drinks receptions and a fantastic location for your wedding photography. .

CHOOSING YOUR

HAIR ACCESSORIES Words By Pamela Sommers

You want to look and feel your best on your wedding day and hair accessories are a delightful way of pulling your overall look together. With so many different hair accessories to choose from; tiaras to hair combs and hair pins to delightful jewels. This may seem daunting, to even the most organised person. Do not worry, help is at hand… Here are some tips to help you choose beautiful hair accessories to complement your look and enhance your ‘WOW’ factor. To begin with, consider the overall theme of your wedding and establish what you are trying to achieve. Think of the colours you would like throughout your wedding, especially your dress and of course your bridesmaids’ dresses. What time of the year your wedding is planned for can also be an important factor when choosing accessories. Floral accessories or garlands look lovely and romantic in spring and summer. For autumn and winter weddings pearl and sparkly crystal accessories add that magical feel. Decide whether you would like your bridesmaids to wear similar accessories to you, or if you prefer them to wear something more delicate and subtle or vice versa. You may prefer your bridesmaids to wear smaller versions of your hair accessory, such as a small hair comb. Start by selecting your dress, as this will be the foundation to base your accessories around. The colour of your dress will affect the colours and style of your accessories. For instance silver accessories look even more sparkly with a white dress. While pearl or gold accessories look fabulous with a cream or gold coloured dress. Think about how you would like to wear your hair. Get creative and experiment with different hairstyles to find out what suits you best and what makes you happy. It may be worth having a chat with your hairstylist for ideas. The hairstyle you choose will affect which hair accessories you wear.

A CANDID PHOTOGRAPHY LOW DOWN

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE ? Words By Sarah Brittain Edwards

Booking a wedding photographer is one of the biggest decisions that you will have to make when planning your wedding. Once the guests have gone home, and the honeymoon is over, the pictures ( along with what you can remember! ) will be one of the lasting keepsakes from your special day. So, when it comes to booking a photographer, what do you want? What are you looking for? What style are you after? Too many questions! Too much choice So, I’ll give a bit of an overview of one of the main styles around, from my own experience. You will more than likely have heard the terms ‘candid’ or ‘reportage’ and ‘formal’ photographic styles bandied around. My style of wedding photography is definitely candid, and I shall try to explain what this term really means for you when booking a candid photographer for your day. Getting to know my couples before their big day, is a definite must! I love to hear how they met; how they got their inspiration for their day; why certain themes and locations were chosen, and who the special people are attending. This helps me to build a picture of the couple and their intensions behind their day, which I aim to capture as the day unfolds. On the day, being a candid wedding photographer means being on the ball, and following the laughter! My eyes are constantly roving, looking for opportunities that I can capture. I am aiming for the best possible photographs, where I am considering composition and light, but just as important to me, are the people or items in front of the camera, as I am being commissioned to capture the moments of the day as they really happen. This also includes all of the detailing, I realise how the couple have been painstakingly pulling these elements together over the months of preparation, and it is only respectful of me to photograph as found, without re-styling or direction. This also goes without saying when photographing the moments of the day. I work in an unobtrusive and candid way, where I capture moments as they happen, 'the decisive moment' as master photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson would say.

Inspired Brides | Summer 2016

C

ouples need to be really sure about the style of photography they want when booking - do they want natural, candid shots without posing, which will be a true representation of the day and will capture beautiful moments, as they happen. or... More formal type photography, where there is a lot of posing and a lot of directing from the photographer in order to get the perfect shot. Are you comfortable posing in front of the camera? Do you want time out of your day to pose? In order to get a staged perfect shot, it takes time! There is of course a place for both candid and staged, and both styles can produce really beautiful shots - so at the end of the day it really does just boil down to personal preference! Therefore, couples really need to be sure of the type of photography that they want in order to remember their day... staged and more traditional, or candid and natural. Really look at a photographer’s portfolio and ask how your favourite images were achieved - were they staged or were they candid? This will give you a sense of the photographer’s competence and creative vision from behind the camera. I come from a photographic background, where I have created, art directed and photographed large and crazy group shots for magazines, using all the photographic gear and have created some fantastic images. However, when I photograph weddings, I personally love shooting in the candid style and using natural light, where I’m capturing the events as they unroll. I thrive on the excitement, the energy and the unexpectedness of the shots that I achieve, from each different and unique wedding. VINTAGE DREAMS Words By Sarah Humphreys

Photography By James Mottram Photography

A truly beautiful vintage inspired December wedding in Uppingham Rutland.

Beth & Charles got married at St Guthlac’s church, Knighton, Leicester, with the reception at The Falcon, Uppingham, Rutland. "We didn’t have a rigid theme" began Beth " but the ideas that we put together were vintage, cosy/wintery and bicycles. When deciding the wedding date we were both concerned that it would be too Christmassy. So we tried to create wintery and cosy feel instead of Christmassy. The venue suited this very well. As a couple we go cycling quite a lot so bicycles became the theme of the tables. They also suited a vintage theme so when I’d decided on my dress it fitted well. " Beth went for a beautiful champagne coloured dress " I wore Maggie Sottero Ettia dress bought from serendipity brides in Weedon, Northamptonshire. I loved the warmer champagne colour, the capped sleeves and the 1920s feel. I didn’t think I’d find the dress I’d imagined in my head but I knew as soon as I put the dress on it was perfect. No other dress came close. It also helped to guide the theme of the day. I knew very early on " continued the bride " that Rachel Simpson offered a style of shoe that would really suit the dress and had friends tell me how comfortable they were. The Emily shoe was the first style I tried on. The colour and style were perfect." " Our florist did the most amazing job. " continues Beth " She completely understood that we wanted wintery without being Christmassy and she helped us to find flowers, berries and foliage to suit our colour scheme and vintage theme. We had bouquets, jam jars and bigger arrangements for the church. " " We had a close friend offer to do our wedding cake " said Beth " It was three tears (chocolate, vanilla and lemon sponge). She created exactly what we wanted. The icing was a pale brown/nude colour covered in white lace. She then made the most amazing pale pink sugar craft roses. It was incredibly special to have her do this for us. We know it took a lot of time and effort especially as she was 8 months pregnant at the time. "

We decided to do this over hiring a suit so he could enjoy the experience and end up with a suit that he could keep.” “Don’t spend too long dwelling on and making a decision, particularly the small ones that seem big at the time but actually aren’t.” Concluded Beth “Take recommendations for suppliers. We did for most of our suppliers and we weren’t disappointed. Try and share the work load with people who want to help. Plan the day for you and not other people.”

CHIC & UNIQUE Words By Sarah Humphreys

Photography By Esme Fletcher

Berrow Court is a hidden gem of a venue situated in the heart of Birmingham. This splendid grade II listed Victorian Mansion was once the home of the distinguished politician Joseph Chamberlain. It is set in three acres of beautiful gardens, creating a stunning backdrop for our photographer Esme Fletcher to work with. This unique venue itself offers a completely bespoke service, allowing you to create a wedding that suits your exact needs & budget. Now one of Birmingham’s most sought after venues for wedding receptions, private dining and conferences, accommodating up to 75 seated guests for wedding breakfasts and private dining. Buffet-style dining can be provided for up to 200 guests. The rooms within this beautiful Victorian Mansion are simply stunning, so it was ideal for us to create a beautiful chic photo shoot there. Dee McMeeking set to work creating a relaxed stylish look, dressing the table with a garland of greenery with pops of colour from Miss Piggy Roses; Cerise Carnations; Gerberas & Pink Eustoma, and to finish the table dressing beautiful menus from Feather & Flourish Stationery . Shakespeare In Love Wedding Boutique provided us with the most dreamy dresses, those along with the hair accessories from All Things Lucy and make-up skills by Pennie Hewston, the team created the effortless and relaxed bridal look we were after. Richard Paul Menswear suited our groom with a navy suit & tie which really complemented the bridal wear look & feel of the venue also. The room we dressed for the shoot was the Garden Room, this is a large room that can hold up to 75 seated guests, buffet-style dining can be provided for up to 200 guests and it really is such a beautiful room. In addition to the Garden Room, there is also the Gold Room, named after its intricate gold décor this a fresh and airy space with large original opening windows overlooking the lawns of Berrow court. Other rooms include; The George Morris Room named after Berrow Court’s eccentric former owner and The Library & Bar where many original books still remain on the oak fine art bookshelves.

IT'S ALL IN THE DETAIL Words By Sarah Humphreys

Photography By Kayleigh Pope Photography

A relaxed pastel theme summer barn wedding, with DIY projects and heaps of personal touches at Wethele Manor, Leamington Spa. Kelly & Stephen got married in August at the beautiful barn venue, Wethele Manor . " We both knew that we wanted the day to be relaxed whilst still feeling special so we chose pastel colours as we felt that these would suit the venue and Stephen has always been in to graphic novels and Marvel so we wanted to make sure that this featured somewhere too " Kelly began " We also did a lot of DIY. I am lucky enough to have very talented family and friends and they were all roped in at some point! We made tons of bunting, table runners, all of the centre pieces and stationary. We made our own sweet table instead of having individual favours and also created our own photo booth area; most of the props ended up on the dance floor! Everyone commented on all of the little details, I think it made a difference and we could really put our own stamp on things. " The pastel theme followed through to the flowers " My very talented friend Jenny did my flowers for me " said Kelly " I knew what style I wanted and Jenny completely got it. They were absolutely stunning! " Kelly had spotted a dress in the boutique window, but wasn't sure it was her style "I had tried on so many dresses, I had always thought that I wanted a lace dress but no matter how many I tried on they just did not suit me. The wedding dress I chose in the end was Alli by Stephanie Allin and I bought it from a gorgeous boutique - Coco and Kate Atelier. I was coming to the end of my appointment there when I asked if I could try this one last dress on.... and I loved it, it made us all cry! I felt so comfortable in it on the day. " the bride continued " Stephen wore a light grey 3 piece suit from River Island and a pale blue bowtie – as well as Iron Man cuff links! "

“J

ust try and enjoy the process” concluded Kelly “We did do a lot of things ourselves which we enjoyed, it also saved us a lot of money but it isn’t for everyone! We left ourselves a lot of time to complete all of the different DIY projects. We also spent a lot of time debating whether we could really justify the expense of videographer...anyone debating it, just book one. I love our wedding video and I think I would have regretted not having one.”
