SOMETHING BLUE Words By Joanne Carr
Venue Oldberrow House
Photography By C And G Weddings
Oldberrow House is an exclusive and unique wedding venue, set in 37 acres of mature gardens and pastureland. It is located just outside the picturesque village of Henley in Arden in Warwickshire. We strive to provide complete flexibility, working around our bride and groom’s dreams for their special wedding celebration. We invite you to relax within Oldberrow House and treat it like your own home for your weekend of celebration. The house itself can be used for smaller intimate weddings within its four grand reception rooms. Alternatively if a larger wedding celebration is preferred, our croquet lawn is an ideal site for a luxury marquee or tipi and can easily accommodate up to 200 guests with Oldberrow House as the backdrop, up lit at night. The four luxury king sized, individually designed en-suite rooms complete with roll top baths and antique beds are used over the wedding weekends to provide a lovely retreat when needed from the wedding celebrations. Brides and their bridal party appreciate the relaxed, spacious environment to get prepared for their big day and the family love having quality time over breakfast in our morning room or dining room before and after the festivities, with homemade breads, jams and the occasional double-yoker egg from the local farm hens!We also have a camping field which allows additional guests to camp or ‘glamp’ within the grounds of Oldberrow House and then share a much needed breakfast the morning after the celebrations within the marquee or tipi. Joanne, Anthony and their team work with each bride and groom to ensure their wedding celebration is tailored to their personal taste. From selecting which drinks to serve as guests arrive at Oldberrow House, to customising the bar listto ensure favourite drinks are being served at our licensed bar. Joanne and Anthony are always at hand to ensure the day runs as planned and to solve any issues that may arise without the bride and groom even knowing! Oldberrow House give our bride and groom complete flexibility of the caterer they’d like to use, allowing choice on the style of wedding breakfast to meet their personal taste and budget. We do of course have a couple of caterers we can highly recommend as we’ve seen and tasted their creations first hand at our weddings! As you’d expect we have ample car parking spaces within our parking field and luxury toilet facilities for the guests to use. Electricity and water is also readily available for caterers, bands to utilise.

Oldberrow House hasn’t currently applied for a civil license but St Mary’s of Oldberrow at the bottom of our drive is a small, simplistic and beautiful church. Our local larger church in Studley, Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is only a 10 minute drive away. Alternatively, Stratford and Warwick Registry offices are also within easy reach of Oldberrow House and we can highly recommend a local celebrant who has conducted meaningful ceremonies within the grounds of Oldberrow House.
Joanne and Anthony Carr fell in love with and bought Oldberrow House in February 2012. Our clear vision was to complete a full restoration project, restoring the beautiful house back to its former glory. It’s always been Joanne’s dream to own and run a beautiful and unique wedding venue and Oldberrow House has been hosting exclusive wedding celebrations since 2015.

The house has had a varied past, it was built as a Rectory to St Mary’s Church, Oldberrow, which was rebuilt in 1875 on the site of a medieval church. Oldberrow House has also been a school, hotel and a base for the Women’s Land Army during the Second World War. It was also a set for Dangerfield TV drama in the 1980’s! We are currently working on landscaping the grounds bringing back to life the original features much admired by Eleanor Roosevelt on her visit to the Land Army based here during the Second World War. This will include recreating the lily ponds under the magnificent 200 year old Wellingtonia tree to further enhance our popular location for hosting wedding ceremonies For more information and to arrange a viewing, please give Joanne and Anthony a call on -

The Styled Shoot If you’re looking for a flexible outdoor wedding venue set in the Warwickshire countryside then Oldberrow House could be for you, as you can see from our styled shoot Oldberrow house makes a stunning backdrop for your wedding photography. I knew this venue would suit an outdoor wedding theme, and I’m crazy about the beautiful shade of dusty blue, so I decided to base the whole shoot around that colour. We were spoilt for choice with so many beautiful photography locations for this romantic shoot. With the dusty blue and dove grey colour theme taking the centre stage, Bunting & Willow Weddings created the table dressings along with flowers from Tuckshop Flowers, Carole created a delicate floral bouquet and table dressing to which we added an abundance of greenery for a natural looking finish. Feather & Flourish added their signature calligraphy stationery suit which gave us the stunning finishing touches to the tablescape. Completing the dusty blue theme is the cake, designed by the talented wedding cake baker The Cakeri.

The dresses are from The Bridal Boutique Warwickshire, both dresses are absolutely stunning with unique touches to each dress. To complement the dresses we chose hair accessories from Vintage Button Bridal Designs, both the hair accessories had subtle blue tones to them. Our hair & beauty team brought the whole look together; Christine Cara Make-up used a make-up palette of soft greys, and Sam from Trust Salons did a more striking up style which created a more dramatic look, all beautifully captured by wedding photographer Georgie of C & G Weddings. CHRISTINE CARA MAKE-UP Bridal Make up Specialist Christine Cara reveals her 5 Top Tips to Summer Proofing your Bridal make up: So you’re getting married this summer? Here are 5 of my top tips I recommend and apply to all of my brides for their make up on the big day! 1. ‘Perfect that base’ Opt for an oil-free moisturizer before your make up base, this will ensure you have less shine and moisture underneath your foundation. It’s still important to keep your skin hydrated but not over oily. I will always use a foundation that is correct for my brides skin type all year round but most importantly in the summer months, this becomes vital, I’ll usually opt for an oil-free foundation whatever the skin type, again to ensure there isn’t any risk of shine. 2. ‘Layer on the eyes’ To get a super lasting finish, I’ll tend to use a cream eye shadow before my powder eye shadows so that the lidhas some protection and a barrier to stop the eye shadow from becoming patchy. I’ll often do this with eye shadow from becoming patchy. I’ll often do this with eyeliners as wellusing a gel liner first off and then pressing an eye shadow over the top to make it look smokey but still very lasting! 3. ‘Powder my nose’ Whether you use powder or not throughout the warmer months I will always use a little extra of an oil minimizing powder around the area’s that can produce extra oil - For example, the nose, chin, between the brows and corners of the nose. I’d also always recommend to my brides to have a powder compact or blotting papers in their clutch throughout the day if needs be. 4. ‘Line your lips’ Now I don’t always use liner surprisingly- it very much depends on the brides lips and whether they need it. But also the lip product I’m using, For example if I’m just using a gloss, it’s unlikely I’d line the lips first. However if you’re going to wear a lipstick I always recommend lining the lips first and also applying a little of that same liner colour over the entire the lip to give the lipstick a good base and something to cling onto. The liner will also help the lipstick not to bleed, which can be more common in the heat, if you sweat on the upper lip etc. 5. ‘HD Airbrush- The ultimate sweat proof base’ Having HD airbrush will give that extra piece of mind to those brides who really worry about their foundation not lasting (even day to day). Expectedly it is a heavier courage but it does last a lot longer and is more water replant than most regular foundations. To read more about HD Airbrush and how it works check out my blog’s on my website www.christinecaramakeup.com

REAL WEDDING
COUNTRY RUSTIC WEDDING Words By Sarah Humphreys
Photography By Olivia Photography
A beautifully relaxed rustic barn wedding, in the stunning Worcestershire countryside Nicola & Adam got married at Bordesley Park Farm, Beoley, Worcestershire on 14th April 2017. “We really wanted a relaxed and laid back feel for the day” said Nicola “to reflect how we are as are couple. A rustic countryside venue and theme seemed perfectly suited. We both absolutely love travel and so felt adding in a hint of our favourite hobby would provide a personal touch too!” "I thought I knew what style of dress I was looking for” continued the bride “ I visited several bridal shops, trying lots of dresses that I liked, but was still searching for that elusive feeling of knowing 'The One' as soon as I put it on. I was beginning to think it didn't exist, until I went to Georgina Scott Bridal in Lye. As I walked in,” said Nicola “I could partially see into one of the dressing rooms and was completely stopped in my tracks when I saw the dress the Bride-to-be was wearing! I fell in love with it instantly and it didn't disappoint when I tried it on and made my Mum and Sister well up! It was a fitted Pronovias gown with delicate lace and pearl detail and a beautiful scalloped edge train. My shoes were by Rainbow “ said the bride “they had memory foam insoles which made them so comfortable I wore them all day long! They were a pale gold peep toe with a bit of glam - the pearl detail matched my dress perfectly.” "We had three bridesmaids” said the bride “my Sister Kelly (who was the Chief Bridesmaid) and my two best friends Lucy and Sarah. They all looked stunning in their dusky pink halter neck dresses with sequin detail!” “Adam looked so handsome in a blue three piece lounge suit with tan brogues and a dusky pink tie and pocket square to match the colour of the Bridesmaids.” Continued Nicola “His outfit was finished with a new watch his Best Man gave to him on my behalf on the wedding morning.” “Our florist (Clair at Bella Lily) was amazing...we had no clue about flowers other than we wanted something that matched the colour and rustic theme.” Continued Nicola “Clair got it straight away! She made the bouquets, button holes, centre pieces and even helped with decor and candles in the ceremony room and marquee...she brought our vision to life! She even carefully added a charm I had made for my bouquet with pictures of my two late Nans and stayed to make sure the guys had their button holes pinned perfectly. Her attention to detail was incredible!” “We were lucky enough to actually win our wedding cake via a Facebook competition with Gail's Cake Pantry! A three tier naked cake with three different flavours and with lots of fresh fruit to decorate it, which perfectly fitted our rustic theme.” Said Nicola “We kept the top tier to make sure we got to try some ourselves afterwards!”

“We had plenty of DIY projects” said Nicola “many of which were Pinterest inspired! We made some wooden signs for the venue from old pallets and some white paint and handmade stencils. Our world map table plan with luggage tags was handmade and Adam even designed and printed the table names to include maps of places we have travelled together for each table and a tag line about why that place was special to us. We also designed and printed the other wedding day stationary i.e. order of service and menu cards. We roped in the Bridesmaids on a favour making production line to put together little pots of alcoholic sweets and handmade tags which we doubled up and used for place settings too.”
“One of the most memorable moments was our heavily pregnant friend, the Best Man’s Wife’s, waters breaking three weeks early whilst on the dance floor, dancing to our amazing band (Radioactive) during the evening reception!!” continued the bride... “There was a quick dash to the hospital and a quickly sobered up Best Man and we woke up the next morning to the exciting news that Baby Carter had been born! He obviously wanted to join in the fun!” “The planning process is as stressful or unstressful as you want to make it” concluded Nicola “so make sure you start projects early and don’t be afraid to take up the many offers of help from friends and family...they genuinely want to be included! Most of all, enjoy every moment...it’s all part of it!”

JUST CELEBRATIONS “A Ceremony With A ….A Lifetime Of Memories Congratulations, you found “The One”! You’ve booked the venue, the DJ and the photographer. The invites are in the post, the cake is in the oven. You have the dress, the shoes and the flowers are to die for. Sadly the actual ceremony itself has been overlooked! The “I Do’s”. The most important words that you will say to the most special person in the world, on your biggest day of your lives haven’t been given a thought. Don’t you think you should? Did you know that you can separate the legal aspect of registering your marriage and have your actual ceremony including your personal vows and exchange of rings wherever you want, at a completely different time and place, whether at a licensed venue or not? Celebrancy is gaining momentum in England and Wales. Increasingly couples are thinking ‘outside the box,’ taking control of their ceremony and do not want to be restricted by the red tape of regulation as they rightly demand to have their ceremony of choice, in their location of choice, with content & music of choice, with their partner of choice…. By using a professional Celebrant to officiate your ceremony, you can embrace your individuality. A blended marriage of different cultures, faiths and traditions? Stately home and black tie? Beach wedding with sandy toes & salty kisses, or festival boho chic? Your celebrant can conduct your ceremony on the beach, canal side, lakeside, in private gardens, marquee, tipi or yurt! VINTAGE INSPIRED WEDDING HIRE HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT!
To Photo Booth or not to Photo Booth? That is the question.
Because it’s not really a party without a Photo Booth, but your average Photo Booth is.. well.. somewhat lacking in style. Of course you want the best entertainment for your guests but having spent a huge amount of time, effort and, let’s face it, hard cash planning every fine detail of a perfectly styled day you may well be reluctant to introduce a sad, wobbly plastic box to the corner of your beautiful reception venue. It would be understandable for you to cringe a little opening the Pandora’s Box of neon afro wigs, oversized plastic glasses and inflatable guitars. After all those months of planning you have to ask yourself; do you really want the lasting memories of your special day to include a rubber chicken? So you have to make a really tough choice; maintain your style or bring on the fun. Wouldn’t it be great if you didn’t have to make that choice? Wouldn’t it be fantastic if you could do both? Well here’s the great news; if you book with us you can because we are not your average Photo Booth. We are Camper Photo Booth and we add to your special day’s style rather than detracting from it. We are show stoppers, smile makers and catalysts for laughter and good times. Our Camper Photo Booth is a Photo Booth difference and tons of vintage appeal. We’ll put your guests in the driving seat whilst you sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. Not only that our Camper Photo Booth comes with our unique selection of genuine vintage costumes and props, so whilst you’ll find tons of fun, there’s not a rubber chicken in sight. With Camper Photo Booth prices starting from just £495 we’re the life and soul of any party and if you can’t get enough of our campervans guess what? You can book them as your wedding car too! Combined wedding car and Camper Photo Booth packages start from just £695 so what are you waiting for? Yes you can! … In a Campervan.

REAL WEDDING
UNIQUE CASTLE WEDDING Words By Sarah Humphreys
Photography By James Mottram Photography
A bee themed wedding at the stunning Kenilworth Castle Rachel & Sam got married on 31st March 2017 at Kenilworth Castle then went to The Cross in Kenilworth for dinner then to The Kenilworth for cocktails cake and overnight . Being beekeepers they created a bee theme for their day. “I loved my wedding dress but it wasn't at all traditional. It was rose gold and lacy with small capped sleeves and sat just below my knee from Ted Baker. I guess the shape was a little 1950s,” said the bride “it fitted perfectly and I felt amazing in it. I never even made it to a traditional wedding dress shop to try any on. I also bought a gorgeous brown coat from Jaeger as I knew it was going to be chilly in the castle in March. My shoes were also from Ted Baker” continued the bride “they were dusty pink stilettos. In hindsight the stilettos weren't terribly suitable for the castle as the floor is uneven and walking on grass was tricky but they looked nice! I had a pair of rose gold Converse for the longer walks and when my feet got tired in the evening!” “My sister Sarah did my the honour of being my bridesmaid.” Said Rachel “She looked so beautiful. I was bridesmaid for her a couple of years ago.” “Sam decided to buy two suits, so he had a spare if he changed his mind about what to wear. He ended up wearing the first suit he tried on which was a gorgeous blue suit from TM Lewin.“ "Carol from CK Flowers did my bouquet, my sister's bridesmaid bouquet and all our button holes.” Said Rachel “She also made us some beautiful bouquets as gifts for the people who had helped us with the wedding. Carol is an old family friend of Sam's. I've always loved her arrangements. She has a lovely natural style with beautiful colour combinations. The flowers were a really important part of the day for me and it was really special to have someone we knew doing them. For the flowers in the castle we did these ourselves.” Continued the bride“ Sam’s Mum (Sue) and I went and bought some flowers the morning before the wedding then my parents came over and we all had a fantastic afternoon arranging flowers at the castle. We had simple glass milk bottles with a bees imprint on the window which we filled with spring flowers and two bay trees with fairy lights on the stage (these are now in my garden). The flowers on the registrars table were arranged in a vase which I 'borrowed' from a friend's wedding which I was bridesmaid at about 5 years ago. They were at our wedding...I wonder if they noticed I've still got it!”

“We ordered a chocolate cake from Marks and Spenser with our name piped in gold on the top.” Said Rachel “As it wasn’t a traditional wedding we didn’t have the normal wedding cake cutting moment so we didn’t need a really fancy cake. It was a very rich cake described by some of our guests as death by chocolate!” “We made our own wedding invitations” said Rachel “the table plan for the restaurant (bee theme, table names signs for the restaurant (bee theme) reserved seating signs for the castle (bee theme). We put pictures of ourselves around the cocktail bar. One of our guests who was a little slow on the uptake thought we must have been regulars at the cocktail bar as they had our pictures everywhere!” “My godmother Chris is a professional musician,” continued the bride “She played her cello for us at the castle, it sounded amazing! She even learnt ‘here comes the bride’ for me to walk into! We also had three poems read for us during the ceremony by our two respective longest serving friends and Sam’s sister. They each chose such beautiful words, it was really special. At the restaurant (The Cross) Chef Adam made us a surprise canapé which was themed around my PhD. It was really touching that he went to all this effort to make it personal for us! At the Kenilworth I didn’t need to look through the menu once. I just said the kind of flavours I fancied and they made me delicious cocktails, it was amazing!” “Keep it simple and stress free and enjoy yourself,” concluded Rachel “ you only get married once after all! The important thing is having a relaxed day surrounded by the people that love you.”

From the moment you walk in Old Rectory House Hotel, it has an incredibly welcoming boutique hotel feel, perfect for modern brides looking for an exclusive use venue. I decided to use a peach, ivory & gold colour scheme as I knew this would suit this stunning country house wedding venue perfectly. With that in mind I knew the floral displays needed to be showstoppers! Leanne from Bumble & Wild Floral Design pulled out all the stops to create a beautiful selection of arrangements; they perfectly complemented the cake artistry created by the talented Pam of The Red Cake Company.

To suit this wedding style I wanted a natural, relaxed look for the hair and make-up. Christine Cara Make- up used a pretty palette of peaches and gold’s on our model, and Sam of Trust Salons created a wonderful natural hair style too, hair accessories from Fifth & Spring were the perfect addition to this summer wedding style. The dresses for this light and airy look are from Village Brides Of Long Compton and looked stunning on our model. To set the scene the stationery suit from Design By Gemma looked just beautiful on our table dressing by The Wow Business. The wonderful Jay Emme Photography captures the styled shoot perfectly, for your summery wedding styling inspiration.

TRUST SALONS Great Wedding Hair Tips For Perfect Wedding Day Styling Your wedding day takes a great deal of organisation & planning to make sure it all goes without a hiccups at Trust Salons we are here to help plan your hair &beauty treatments so you can enjoy this special day knowing that you look wonderful & feel unique.

The process begins by simply listening! We want to hear everything to understand everything about your special day. From the silhouette of your dress or suit &headpiece/veil design to the venue itself, time-of-day, colour schemes & floral arrangements, everything plays a part when thinking about just the right look for hair, makeup. We want you to have the wedding day styling of your dreams? Check out our mini list of dos &don'ts. Plan Ahead If you have your hair colored, permed, or treated, be sure to have it done at least two weeks before your wedding day & a top up just before if needed. The extra time will soften your style a bit, so it looks more natural. Also, should disaster strike, you'll have time to fix it. So, let’s get planning ………. we recommend that you have at least one hair & makeup design appointment well in advance. This will give you the opportunity to meet your hair & makeup stylists & discuss your expectations & ideas with them. Together we can then create your look! The one that is perfect for you, the one that you will love, a look that is as individual as you. Throughout the session, we encourage you to tell us what you like & the things you don’t to ensure you are confidently satisfaction that everything is perfect. We ask you to bring along oodles of photos & ideas to share your thoughts with our team we love listening to your ideas & we will provide the best advice to achieve the look you are dreaming of. We want you to be 100% happy & if there is something you are not sure about we can change it & keep changing it until you are happy. Loosen Up Don't get your hair done too early on your wedding day, & think about what’s best for you if you think an up do may be too much for you then don't wear it pulled back too tightly. Your scalp may start to hurt & you could get a headache if you wear a killer up-do for too long. Do the double doo! Up in day & let loose for the evening shenanigans. Keep It Neat & sweet Get a trim a few weeks before your wedding date to neaten up your tresses & eliminate split ends. Treat yourself to a salon conditioning service to get your hair at its very best. Work with a team of stylist that know hair. There may be someone in your usual salon who specializes in wedding styling but you won't be slighting your regular stylist if you try another stylist or ask for a recommendation; having your hair done for a big event is very different from getting an everyday great cut or color. Be sure to work with a team that are perfected in special Coiffure styling & are used to the pressures of on big the day styling Be sure you are confident with your chosen team be sure that they achieve the look you want for your wedding Day. Be True to the Real You Do what you want to do! you want a detailed up-do you go for it, if you want a simpler minimalist look that’s ok too! It’s your hair, your day & what you enjoy is what your guest want to share. Contact us for a consultation on how we can create your wedding hairstyle.

REAL WEDDING
CHIC CITY WEDDING Words By Sarah Humphreys
Photography By Jill Evans Photography
A chic city wedding, with a gold, cream and dark hunter green colour theme in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter. Emilie & Daniel got married on Saturday 5th November 2016 at Coventry Register Office, also known as Styvechale Manor, which is a medieval royal palace in the centre of Coventry with the reception at The Drop Forge, Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham. "Instinctively we knew we weren’t a grand country hotel type of couple. We are both from Coventry, a city famous for its post-war concrete architecture” said Emilie “We knew we wanted a down to earth wedding. We considered a few venues in Coventry and Birmingham but nothing really suited the relaxed city wedding we wanted. A colleague of mine mentioned they had been to a wedding reception at The Drop Forge and we should go and check it out as it sounded like it might be what we were looking for. We both loved the warmth of the space, the industrial past of the building; the mix of ironwork, exposed brick and fairy lights was really romantic. We travelled between the two venues on a vintage Routemaster bus.!” “We didn’t have a specific theme” continued the bride “we wanted our decisions on décor and details to reflect our personal style and our shared history, without being too strict or ‘fancy dress’. The main colours were gold (including glitter and sequins), cream and dark/hunter green.” "We decided early on to focus on the key details that were important to us” Said Emilie “that meant the dress/suit, the food and the music. As we would have been together for over ten years by the time the big day came around, we used details of our shared history, places we’ve lived, food we love, we wanted to feel relaxed and at home in our wedding, rather than putting on a show on the day. We also wanted to include nods to our time spent living in Pamplona and Madrid in Spain. Our favours/place settings were traditional Spanish sweets called polvorones.” “In The White Boutique I noticed an interesting lace pattern on the rack and picked it up, not really considering the style. As soon as I saw myself in the mirror I had tears in my eyes. It was a proper cliché” said the bride “I just knew this was the one for me. It was an Alfred Angelo strapless, fitted bodice ballgown. But it had pockets – which I loved! So, I chose the Alfred Angelo dress and had it customise to suit my style. I had all the petticoats cut out to reduce the volume and shortened it to just above floor length which felt a lot more suitable for an inner-city wedding. Everyone at The White Boutique was amazing, and The Seamstresses could not have been better or more reassuring (and patient!). It was so much fun going for fittings and seeing my dress take shape. My Auntie Hayley made a gold and pearl beaded headdress with a leaf motif to compliment."

“Daniel is known for his sense of style, and always looks sharply dressed, even in something casual. I knew his outfit would be special because he has a real eye for detail when it comes to the cut of his trouser or type of shirt collar, and he will always add finishing touches such as a vintage tiepin or cufflinks.” continued the bride “On the day, he wore a three-piece suit from Mark Powell Bespoke, one of London’s most influential tailors near Carnaby Street. His shoes were from DNA Groove, a modernist Italian designer based in Spain where he gets a lot of his clothes from. He looked amazing, so handsome and put together, I was so proud and I beamed all the way up the aisle towards him!” “My flowers were created by florists Ben and Zak.” Said Emilie “My favourite flower is a hydrangea and I wanted this to feature in my bouquet. They sourced green hydrangeas to compliment the colours we had chosen and along with cream roses and hypericum.”
“ The Cakes were by Sophie Page in Coventry.” said Emilie “ We went for just one tier with a double depth which looked quite dramatic, especially with the ruched gold buttercream icing and the fresh floral cake topper from the florist.” “ I made the table centrepieces which were large jars covered in gold paint, glitter and with fresh flower arrangements to match my bouquet.” continued the bride “ I also made the table plan and table names which were Polaroid’s of important places in our relationship – The Tin Angel bar where we first met, a favourite restaurant, a coffee bar we would eat tortilla at after work in Spain, a restaurant from a trip to Paris. Everything had significance to us. I also made confetti cones, with dried green hydrangea petals, cream and green tissue paper, and a little too much glitter! I still have some in my shoes now!” “Give yourself time to enjoy the process of planning.” Concluded Emilie “Keep it simple and personal. It is your day, nobody else’s. Be sensible when it comes to a budget and focus on the priorities for you both, it could be the venue, a huge guest list or a pimp your Prosecco station. Try to create your dream day within your budget.”
