The company has designed Landmark 81, a multiaward winning project which has been further bestowed with the coveted title of ‘World’s Best Architecture’. The 460-metre high landmark building in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam is ideally located within Vinhomes Central Park. Designed by Atkins for Vingroup, its expansive façade faces the beautiful Saigon River. Encompassing an area of 241,000m² and comprising 81 storeys, Landmark 81 will be the tallest building in Vietnam and in the whole of South East Asia. Its upper portion will accommodate the five-star Vinpearl Hotel, while the predominant function will be residential along with a luxurious shopping

centre. This will include the finest retailers all under one roof for a top-class experience. Featuring alongside this impressive array of mixed amenities are finely crafted landscape features. These will enhance and enliven the architectural design as the landscaping gradually grows upwards from the plaza to the many roof terraces surrounding the podium and tower. Atkins’ challenge as architects was to create a unique and dynamic tower design to support Vingroup’s vision for a high-end mixed-use development project. The tower is also integrated into the public realm, which addresses sustainable design challenges at various interfaces of the project. Landmark 81 now spirals above the growing skyline of the city adding a new iconic landmark to Ho Chi Minh City’s towering skyline.

 A  a multiaward winning, Hong Kong based practice with a focus on retail design and broadcast studios. One its latest projects, Phoenix TV International Media Center has won the highly coveted title of ‘World’s Best Interior’. Although Phoenix New Media’s iconic building had already come to define its Beijing neighbourhood in China, the studio and newsroom designed by Head Architecture gave it the heart it needed and deserved. The client’s brief was to create a functional newsroom around a single idea of repeated circles. The challenge was to create a collaborative workspace paired with a newsroom to raise the bar for all Chinese broadcasters. The resulting circular theme of the main news desk ripples through the

studio, creating a myriad of corners, curves and light. Circular columns sheathed in backlit glass create new reflections at each turn, highlighted by the curving walkways. Recalling the zig-zag bridges of classical Chinese gardens, the corners invite staff and visitors alike to pause and talk or simply admire the view. Undoubtedly, one of the most innovative features is the producer’s Control Room which is suspended from the ceiling above the main news desk forming a striking visual centrepiece. Above all, the studio rigorously adheres to a single concept, housing state-of-the-art broadcast facilities as well as staff offices. Specifically designed by Head Architecture to be versatile, it offers Phoenix’s producers endless shooting angles and variations.

WCD   - design firm with an international team based in Shanghai, London, and Barcelona. Its portfolio includes high-end residential, boutique hotels and urban design. From concept to construction drawings, the company emphasises detail and the incorporation of local cultures into each design process. Featuring an award-winning interior design by HWCD, Rui Hong Xin Cheng is a private apartment north of the famous Bund in Shanghai, across Huangpu River from Lujiazui Financial District. On one side is the historic promenade of Western mansions, while on the other is a surreal congregation of skyscrapers. HWCD’s challenge was to unify these stark opposites. Having spent many hours in consultation with the clients, the designers’ inspiration stemmed from their characters and

expectations. As this project represents the top end of Shanghai residential developments, it has been highly bespoke from the very beginning. The best materials were procured following factory visits and meetings with experienced craftsmen and these were used to achieve the appropriate, optimum effect. The magnificent wall art in the guest bedroom, an image of an awesome city landscape, took no less than four months to create from drawings. Each step from the selection of wood, laser cutting to joining, is infused with a respect for age-old craftsmanship such as marquetry. Although following traditional methods and paying tribute to the apartment’s historic context, daring composition and combinations have given the space a distinct personality. For example, the dining room’s crystal chandelier uses rock crystals from a Belgian mine, ceasing to be a mere utility, it becomes

the personification of the clients’ preferences and experiences. Every element of this design displays a sense of unrushed pursuit for quality and perfection. Keppel Sheshan Riviera Residence is another award-winning project by HWCD. Situated in the so-called ‘Back Garden of Shanghai’, Sheshan Scenic Area, this is the only natural woodland area of this megacity. Sheshan has become a magnet for city high flyers looking to build family retreats there in recent years, thus HWCD was commissioned to design the show villa for a new and luxurious 170,000m² development. Villas at Keppel Sheshan Riviera Residence have a total area of 271 to 375m², a neoclassical façade, double height lounge, dual aspect layout and a panoramic roof terrace with enviable woodland views. Walking through the show villa, a striking sense of luxury and elegance is immediately

apparent. Its bespoke style, delicacy in taste and elaborate details combine to provide an excellent visualisation for prospective buyers. Additionally, the design provides a nonintrusive platform on which any other themes can be incorporated. The show villa’s sense of space and symmetry gives the interior a touch of classic luxury while decorative shelving immediately catches the eye. A champagne gold coloured brass display shelf unit in the TV room was inspired by antique Chinese display shelves and forms an excellent example. On the first floor, the master suite features a fabric bound, wall-length headboard and velvet bed bench to enhance the feeling of homeliness and comfort. More functional rooms such as the games room, home cinema, wine cellar and maid’s quarters are extensively finished with natural stones and treated wood hardware to ensure an enduring environment.

H P, an integrated property, project development and asset and facilities management group, has developed the award-winning TH Hotel & Convention Centre (THHCC) Kuching in Sarawak, Malaysia. It is ideally located close to Kuching International Airport. The four-star hotel incorporates the needs of the local communities by comprising an office component and convention facilities including a hall that can accommodate up to 1,090 people. It also features a Hajj complex which has been specially designed for Muslims who are planning on embarking on the pilgrimage to Mecca. The TH hotel stands nine storeys high, which increases the visibility of the building from various angles. Externally, this design gives a more dynamic and lasting impression with its distinct positioning and patterning.

The regional context was another important aspect and considered at great length before finalising the underlying design principle of THHCC. The resulting building design embodies the cultural heritage of the indigenous community in Sarawak, through the adaptation of Pua Kumbu motifs into its form. Pua Kumbu is a traditional, multi-coloured hand-woven fabric made and used in Sarawak. Its rich patterns and vibrant colours are as unique as they are significant to the local community. This ethnic heritage is infused into the design of THHCC to create a timeless and synergistic blend of art and architecture. The consideration of immediate surroundings and the locality was extremely important when implementing the design, in order to allow the building’s external appearance to reflect the local culture, society and climate

requirements. This approach resulted in a striking modern contemporary building façade that was accentuated by tropical architectural elements. Inspiration was sought from the lush tropical rainforest of the Borneo island in which THHCC Kuching is located. This not only celebrates the glorious setting of the development site, but also forms the underlying green technology and efficient living adopted by the project. The scale, design, building function, landscaping and materials are chosen to be environmentally friendly as far as possible, and also made to be conducive to the expectations of a modern, 21st century lifestyle. The final overall design of the integrated building development includes a grand lobby at the ground floor, while the lower ground floor contains public and private parking bays. The hotel’s interior design uses Islamic concepts as a guideline for the facilities areas,

in terms of spatial planning and layout. This extends to common areas which are mostly divided into separate male and female facilities in order to fulfil the requirements of the adjoining Hajj complex’s patrons. All public areas take inspiration from local traditional motifs that are commonly found in fabric etchings and mat weavings native to Sarawak. The cultural symbolism in these design patterns are further accentuated by sustainable design concepts. The Presidential Suite is the most exclusive VIP accommodation available within the hotel, with the room embracing a lavish sense of style with custom designs and fittings. Within the exclusive suite, there is a living room and dining area, an activity/lounge area, the main bedroom with a master bathroom and a smaller bedroom with twin beds and an adjoining bathroom.

Lè Architecture

Lè Architecture is a high-rise office tower in Taipei, Taiwan which aims to redefine the skyline of this rapidly developing district. Its design is inspired by the shape of pebbles in the nearby Jilong River; developing the unique aesthetic that conveys softness and elegance as well as strength and character. Zhuhai Holiday Resort New Hotel (Phase 1) is adjacent to the Pearl River Delta in China within an area known as ‘the garden of the garden city’. The concept for the new buildings thus draws inspiration from the site as an aged tree that continues to grow, extending its roots and sprouting new branches.

Ariel Muller’s brief was to renovate the condominium to capitalise on the sweeping views and vibrant urban surroundings. The client wanted to open up the space to adopt a more contemporary lifestyle conducive to family enjoyment, entertaining and ultimately bringing the outdoors in. Fresh and bold, the condominium’s new design harmonises with the surrounding ocean and natural elements while a newly furnished outdoor terrace further extends the living space and connects beautifully with the outdoors.

Its comprehensive range of services are backed by a team of professionals who remain focused throughout the entire design and build process. Mandalay is the company’s magnificent, award-winning villa on Providenciales’ Long Bay Beach. Due to the fact that there was an existing building on the site which was constructed prior to the 100 feet setback regulations, Mandalay was permitted to be built on its foundations, with just a 30 feet setback. With very little client direction, aside from requiring it to be a frequently visited vacation villa suited to entertaining multiple guests and family, the design became a

collection of features previously considered but never employed on other projects. The result is an eclectic combination of local heritage architecture, sprinkled with Bermudian features. It incorporates interesting tropical elements that are impractical in other climates and which help to create the epitome of Caribbean vernacular architecture and indoor/ outdoor tropical living design. Sliding window walls that are completely concealed when in the open position; the need to go outside to transit between rooms; and living spaces that flow seamlessly from interior to exterior, all help to connect villa to its fabulous surroundings. The concept attempts to capture ocean views from all areas but, where this has not been possible, elements have been created to engage and compete for vacationers’ attention equally well.

Five of the six total guest bedrooms are located on the second level, four of which are directly oceanfront. This challenging but important rental marketing feature was successfully accomplished by positioning two of the King Suites out over the pool area. Crowning Sun Serenity fittingly is the thirdfloor mezzanine and its sunset terrace.  G,  partnership with Peninsula Investments Group, is developing a tower that is located in downtown Montevideo, Uruguay. Nostrum Bay is an affordable housing, high-rise building that will include both residences and some retail space at street level. For this project, Altius commissioned Carlos Ott Architects in association with Carlos Ponce de León. The resulting double award-winning project is part of a new generation of tall buildings in the country and forms one of the most distinctive examples. Its dramatic shape rises next to the Bahia de Montevideo shore and port, creating a striking natural landmark. The building will have 17,790m² of built area including three retail spaces, parking facilities for 103 vehicles and 193 residential lists.

The exterior of the tower dazzles, as the client requested, while the interior toys with a soft tension between a high-tech maritime look and a lavish, yet warm, aesthetic. In order to make the most of the tower’s location, all apartments have open views over the city while a core enclosing its facilities forms the central spinal column of the building. The top floor was specially required to have some of Nostrum Bay’s residents’ amenities as well as two barbecues and roof terraces with panoramic views towards the city, bay and Cerro de Montevideo. Nostrum Bay will become one of the iconic scenes of Montevideo. It will not only be a landmark from which the urban panorama can be experienced but also an outstanding silhouette in the skyline of Montevideo.

 D  won the Best International Leisure Architecture Award with its design of The HillTop Clubhouse for The Hong Kong Jockey Club. This stunning building speaks about time, place, memory and cultural symbolism and at the same time evokes lightness and transparency. This unique building form has also been layered horizontally with its internal activities and material finishes. The podium, which accommodates the main vehicular drop-off area, car parking and building plant, has been clad in a charcoal grey granite with accents of beige limestone. This reflects the past long-standing building on this site and the memory of the British colonial period of Hong Kong. The pool deck, which accommodates a 50-metre swimming pool with surrounding terrace areas, has been enclosed in a gun-metal grey window wall system to visually separate

the light horizontal tower above with the solid podium below. The horizontal tower, which accommodates the various venues, has been clad in a silver champagne curtain wall to reinforce and reflect the cultural symbolism in Asia of the traditional building material of woven bamboo and of folding screens originating in China during the Han dynasty. The roof, which accommodates four tennis courts, has been enclosed within a permeable metal screen to conceal them from the surrounding neighbourhood and to provide a visual ‘crown’ to the building. The architectural vision for the appearance of this building form was to evoke lightness and transparency during the day and also at night. This vision of a ‘lantern’ building at night was inspired by traditional Chinese lanterns used for festive occasions because lanterns are a symbol of ‘reunion’.

 , Joakim de Rham of Swiss Bureau Interior Design and Siavosh Adeli of Adeli Interior Architecture & Partners have designed the award-winning Room of the Emirates of the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. One of the largest rooms of the Palais des Nations, it required a complete refurbishment to comply with current technical standards for conference rooms. Interpretation, fire safety and accessibility for disabled persons were among the project’s key objectives. Represented by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, the client brief requested that the architects integrated strong symbols of their country into the design. The brief also sought to combine functionality and cutting-edge technology, with an aim to merge innovation and cultural heritage in line with architectural

trends apparent in the UAE over a number of past years. The project’s concept was born from the idea of creating a sensation of openness and natural luminosity as the existing Room had no natural light. By allying themselves with the latest technology, the architects developed a ‘living’ ceiling whose geometry draws its sources from the United Arab Emirates’ emblem. The ceiling includes LED technology, enabling the ‘sky’ to transform from dawn into dusk in real time. The entire Room was also designed in the colours and scenery of the Emirates. A woodwork of sand-coloured blades with undulating effects on the periphery subtly suggest windblown sand dunes, while the back of the presidential zone has a deep blue marble wall with sparse greyish slits, signifying the foam of the Persian Gulf.

 E S & Leisure Center is an award-winning, premier lifestyle facility located in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC). The goal for the developers, Emaar, The Economic City (EEC) was to create an unparalleled health and fitness destination for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Set over 53,000m² with a built-up area of 14,700m², Esmeralda will act as a hub for the Al Murooj community and also serve the growing population of expats and Saudis in KAEC Industrial Valley, Jeddah and Rabigh. The exterior of Esmeralda is a highly modulated massing of building forms designed to provide visual interest from all sides. There is no rear to the development; for instance, the sports block to the east with its

large interior space was articulated in such a way so as not to overwhelm the neighbouring homes. The northern social space has also been designed to provide additional screening from the sports block. The interior features a visually grand clerestory due to the prominent and impressive climbing wall that is visible even from the parking lot. This visual space is segmented just above the lobby by the diagonal lines of the fitness floor above, creating an improbable dynamic space within the colonnaded axiality of the clerestory. By providing an unparalleled health and fitness destination in a safe and luxurious environment, EEC has created a legacy for the continuing wellbeing of KAEC and the broader KSA.

One of its latest accolades is for Roberto’s Ristorante located in The Galleria Mall complex in Abu Dhabi. The 800m² project called for an intelligent and dynamic interior design solution – one which would introduce a variety of new and visually diverse materials and finishes. The client brief was to establish and create a new exciting direction and natural evolution of the previously designed brand. It was also a client requirement to develop a new visually stimulating and exciting lounge to be incorporated into the restaurant’s interior while remaining sympathetic to the brand

and its origins. The end result is a seamless transition from the previous brand identity to Roberto’s newly evolved direction. The Elmsbridge team has designed a small, boutique property nestled into a steep site. The concrete block building method was chosen because it is traditional to the island and creates a superlative finished product. The wonderful, historic Georgian and classic

Caribbean architecture surrounding Nelson’s Retreat is also respected and balanced via clean lines and native textures. The vegetation and landscaping of the site will be an important unifier with the environment, whilst still framing a modern hotel with clean lines and contemporary energy. Befitting the Caribbean, the interiors are open spaces that flow seamlessly from indoors to outdoors. The furniture is flexible for work or play as desired and the tone is mindful of the target market of guests generally in their 20s to 50s with a keen sense of adventure. The studio apartments will be privately owned and operated via the rental program with up to one month’s use per year and annual profit share for the owners.

   solutions, EPL novospace is a South Africa-based interior architecture firm creating inspirational designs for clients across multiple sectors. RCL Foods is the result of a merger between five companies, requiring a head office, with architecture by Elphick Proome Architects, and a work environment focused on people. The intent was to foster a sense of unity and energy, with creative spaces and the opportunity to generate chance interactions. After extensive research into the needs of the client, novospace presented a number of overall style concepts, with the ultimate decision going to ‘Funky Raw’. Internal finishes were chosen to contrast against the white and charcoal exterior of the building,

incorporating raw exposed brick, concrete, polished cementitious floors, rough sawn timber and an array of steel elements. A subtle approach is taken to link the interior with the nature of RCL Foods’ business – the occasional table supported by cutlery-shaped legs is a whimsical touch. Specific facilities needed for the project included test and development kitchens, a public food shop, cafés and a skybar. These were integrated around a dramatic central atrium to encourage collaborative working practices. The ultimate result of novospace’s work is a truly African working environment – one that departs from the familiar sameness of competing companies to create its own bespoke industrial aesthetic and identity.

It works exclusively with international clients, providing high-end custom architectural design services for luxury vacation homes and investment properties in Costa Rica, Panama and the Caribbean. The company has won two awards for its project Cap Limon Luxury Club Residences in the Dominican Republic’s Samana province. The client, Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Club (LHVC), gave a brief requiring a modern and clean architectural style to blend with the surrounding natural environment. Thus, Sarco has created open, airy spaces with a blurring of indoor and outdoor lines and an exterior featuring natural materials.

During the Master Plan process, the design team identified potential residential ‘neighbourhoods’ that can be developed in phases. Areas of the resort with premiere ocean views were selected for larger estate residences, while those at the rear with appealing jungle and valley views were ideal for a mixture of vertical residences and smaller bungalow designs. The resort’s amenity buildings are exemplified by the VIP Club Restaurant and the striking, flowing rooflines resembling tree canopies. As if ‘floating’ above the treelines of the hillside below they provide an example of the vision for the rest of the project. They also convey LHVC’s desire to provide guests with a high-end yet natural luxury experience – one which is not currently found in the Dominican Republic’s other resorts.

 L P is a design and architecture firm based in Mexico which is dedicated to create the best architectural solutions and interior design for modern needs. The company’s two projects detailed here are both award-winning examples. Departmento CSF involved the complete refurbishment of a two-storey apartment on the 21st floor of a high-rise building. The element that best fulfilled the client’s requirements was De Leon’s creation of the double height space, allowing much needed natural light into the property. Most of the design concept evolved from this decision as the space changed dramatically once the existing suspended ceiling was removed. A distinct original lack of character has been transformed by giving the living areas a more

industrial appearance, resembling more of a loft than an apartment. Clandestino Hotel is a small boutique operation in the city centre of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. The refurbishment project was carried out on a historic house dating back to the 19th century. Some of the original features had to be preserved and restored, while adapting the existing building to suit its new purpose. The project resulted in eight guest bedrooms, four located within the original building and the remainder in a new building located at the rear of the estate. Joined together by a common courtyard, the two parts of the Clandestino Hotel create a style that is true to the town’s colonial essence while combining it with contemporary elements.

The name AVG refers to the most significant real estate projects of Ukraine. Lavina Mall is a prime, award-winning example of these trends in Kyiv, featuring 500 trading areas and an entertainment

complex of 20,000m². The transformation of an old, empty hangar into a modern shopping and entertainment centre provided quite a challenge. All elements, zones and blocks were designed to be united by a single idea, taking into account the business objectives of the future centre and reflecting the philosophy implied in the name ‘Lavina’ which means avalanche. This incorporates the themes of air, water, ice and snow in the design concept, interpreted in a futuristic way. One of AVG Group’s main tasks was to combine the idea of the natural avalanche element with the project’s entertainment centre which is named ‘Galaxy’. Therefore, the overall goal was to create a uniquely designed shopping and entertainment centre that corresponds to the status of the largest retail project in Ukraine in terms of both retail zones and overall space.

This approach ensures that the company’s interior design concepts are steeped in tradition but have a forward-thinking attitude. Segreti Design’s Contemporary Kleinburg Residence is an award-winning private residence in Toronto, Canada. The client brief was to create a contemporary home that exhibited grandeur as well as the unexpected. Feature spaces within the home therefore became the great room, kitchen and the master bedroom with its en suite bathroom and dressing room. Customised artwork for the great room was large scale and impressive, to provide impact as a feature wall. A contemporary sectional sofa, unique custom chandelier, a book matched

marble fireplace as well as other accessories to complement this feeling of splendour. The clients requested a touch of seafoam green for their master suite which would remind them of the turquoise water at their winter Miami home. This was expressed through the use of custom mosaics with an iridescence that reflect the light beautifully. The colour palette was primarily a neutral grey and white with an emphasis on white marble and light-coloured walls. There were several unique customised elements in this residence, from the curved rotunda walls to the colourful art glass which cascades like a vine of flowers up the stair hall. Kleinburg Residence displays all of Segreti Designs’ signature forward-thinking elements that will allow this property to carry forward with its timeless beauty for years to come.

 I, helmed by partners Nikki Hunt and Andrea Savage, has earned an international reputation for attention to detail, quality and creativity, winning awards at national, regional and global levels. A bespoke home, both inside and out, Ridout Road features architecture and interior design by Design Intervention. The property in Singapore was inherited by a couple and their two teenage daughters and, although the site is beautiful, the building was very dilapidated. Design Intervention demolished the house and created a new family home; contemporary in design and full of light, it maximises the fabulous views. Inside, pops of colour enliven the décor and add energy and

vitality without overwhelming the rooms. The wife is an amateur artist and so her love of artistic effects is reflected in many of the soft furnishing choices. Singapore Winevault is a new wine tasting, restaurant and entertainment concept within a rooftop oasis in West Singapore. As its location is far outside the city centre, Design Intervention had to ensure that its interior design would entice guests to make the journey. The client brief was to create the ambience of an American mountain lodge – the challenge was to rework a look associated with snowcovered terrains and blend it seamlessly into lush, tropical Singapore. The result is a mash-up of two seemingly opposing design themes in a striking yet harmonious manner.

The company, based in Toronto, Canada, has won awards for the two following projects. Solar House is a modern home in the Toronto neighbourhood of Forest Hill Village. The clients wanted a sustainable property in tune with the environment to suit their contemporary lifestyle. Meeting complex regulations, a solar panel; system was installed to maximise solar harvest without appearing obtrusive. The property’s resulting architectural design enhances the life of its residents by containing an impressive array of spaces which combine natural materials with a strong connection to the surroundings. It also sensitively contributes to the streetscape while

pointing the way to a modern design approach, both in its immediate neighbourhood and in the city as a whole. Urban Villa is a contemporary home with a basement level three-car garage, also located in Forest Hill Village. Makow Architects created the driveway down the left side of the house into the basement, in order to achieve a symmetrical, unified and classical façade typical of the original homes which characterise this neighbourhood. The company also designed the architectural interiors, enabling a full coordination of the flow and proportions of spaces inside. Harmonising windows, interior and exterior materials, the play of light, space and surface is evident in each room. Every detail in the house and garden is fully integrated in the design process with every element being part of a unified whole.

 R A is a leading Brazilian architectural practice. The company’s awardwinning property Casa Mar is located on the Ilhabela archipelago in the state of Sao Paulo. Designed to be open to the landscape, the home’s basic aim is to show great respect for its beautiful surroundings. Its concept has been inspired by the contrast and blend of tones seen in traditional Brazilian Colonial architecture. Clearly dividing the building into different blocks which are clearly defined by their usage, Casa Mar’s varying planes and angles add to its optimal insulation and natural ventilation. A central and imposing area of concrete hosts the outdoor leisure and alfresco dining

area. It also serves to separate the social and intimate areas into two other distinct volumes, one at each end. The social area features a balcony with decking covered by a pergola for internal shading and appears to ‘float’ on the mountainside. At the other end, the intimate area of the property has been coated with massive clay bricks to help moderate internal temperature. It contains four bedroom suites, one of which is the master located above the others. All suites have access to decks and a large garden. With Casa Mar, Renato Rossi has created a stunning property with an internal environment that literally projects itself out into the landscape and offers fabulous views of both the mountain and the ocean.

Its award-winning project ‘Yacht House’ is ideally located on a state-of-the-art, artificial island surrounded by a marina. Ocean Reef comprises two of the first residential man-made islands in Latin America. An exclusive community interconnected by a bridge, it will contain just 138 waterfront residential lots with views of the Gulf of Panama and the city’s skyline. Yacht House was for PODA a challenge to

create an elegant, avant-garde and unique residential building to redefine the meaning of modern luxury living. Comprising four residential units with one per floor, the building’s rooftop has minimum covered spaces in order to maximise the views. The design evolved through many stages, eventually taking its inspiration from a superyacht. This was not solely in the morphology but also through the process involved in the building’s design, in which form and aesthetics intrinsically respond to the performance and environment itself. The building’s elegant, double-curved metal façade is made by an advanced cladding system. This will create a distinctive and unique architectural identity that resembles the hull of a superyacht, while also helping to maximise shadows, privacy and security.

  P, Mexico in 2012, Proyecto Cafeina specialises in provocative architecture that generates intense emotions and sensations through consistent quality and integral design. Casa Ibarra is a prime, award-winning example in Puebla’s historic downtown, an area listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The building dates all the way back to the 16th century and is surrounded by the city’s important heritage monuments. Proyecto Cafeina’s renovation of Casa Ibarra proved challenging as it had to be undertaken with a great deal of respect given to the building’s historical background. Most of the invaluable colonial wall paintings located throughout the house were delicately restored while old and new elements of the design were carefully contrasted and differentiated.

Cassa Ibarra now comprises nine residential apartments and two retail spaces. The materials chosen respond accordingly to the house by incorporating a mix of colonial colours, stripped materials and black steel in some elements. These areas include the stairs and mid-level floors that provide a contemporary and timeless appearance to the interiors. Certain original walls have been left exposed and illuminated by downlights so that the stonework can be fully appreciated. The interior design reflects the historic nature of the property while introducing some contemporary features such as lighting and furniture. A few of the original wooden beams have also been innovatively reassigned in order to be used as lamps, window frames and bathroom furniture.

Espacio Las Cavas is an award-winning, multi-family residential complex which is unique in the area of Canning, 30 kilometres away from the city of Buenos Aires. Designed for the young, middle-class market sector, the development is environmentally-friendly and preserves all natural surroundings. The project required two, three and four-room units with different designs and areas. It comprises 40 residential units, a gym, changing rooms, a multi-purpose room, guard and access control points, open-air

areas for sports including an aerobic pathway, a playground and parking lot. Developed in four housing blocks plus a block intended for common uses, all are placed along the perimeter creating a central green area. DXARQ ’s priority was to generate green spaces between the housing blocks, thus fostering the quality of the space and varying their use. By arranging the project in concentric rings, part of the public space can be treated as a private space. This provides each unit with its own garden, stressing the concept of a concentric ring: a garden inside another garden. Inspired from the outset by the idea of merging the architecture with its surroundings, Espacio Las Cavas succeeds in harmoniously merging indoor living spaces with the outdoors.

   three well-known companies, Group Quorum, Group Marsan, and Lemay, has resulted in the project L|L Laval-SurLe-Lac. A haven exuding discretely modern sophistication in the midst of mature trees in Laval, Quebec, Canada, it comprises four distinct pavilions. Each one features 24-30 condominiums and penthouses, forming an architectural masterpiece that takes on a different light at various times of the day, depending on the vantage point.  SUN  founded in 2013 in Toronto, Canada and specialises in residential and commercial architecture and interior design. The company focuses on the essential meaning of the space, creating a strong connection to the surrounding culture and aesthetics. The Courtyard House features architecture and award-winning interior design by Atelier SUN. This new 3,000 square feet, two-storey detached home is located in the East York region of Toronto. The client’s brief was for a modern yet cosy environment in which his family which includes two new-born babies could grow. While it had to be suitable for family gatherings and entertaining, it also had to serve as a peaceful and enjoyable living space for daily life.

The design creates a unique spatial relationship between each functional space. A beautiful indoor courtyard with a double height ceiling brings greenness, light and shadow inside the house while at the same time connects all rooms together. A series of landscaping and bamboo further integrates the outdoors with the indoors. Although using everyday materials to remain within the client’s budget, the designer has turned them into unique details tailored to the design concept. A balance between white oak and a rough concrete finish with a touch of brass and black marble provides the space with a warm and natural feeling. The resulting space provides a unique living space and enhances the interaction between its users and nature.

The company has won awards for the three following projects. Bosque Real Residence is in Huixquilucan, Mexico and consists of two towers of 40 storeys each. It includes one level of penthouses with 164 apartments in total, five levels of basement parking and three motor lobbies. Between the towers is a three-storey clubhouse offering a full range of resident amenities. All apartments face the golf course and have spacious terraces extending their living space. From its inception, Mayakoba was conceived as a resort development to enhance its natural environment. Within this beautiful location, Rosewood Residences Mayakoba is a collection

of ultra-luxurious residences in the middle of a lagoon surrounded by jungle. Inspiration for this project came from the desire to offer a full appreciation of the outside from inside. Hence, the beauty of nature flows through wide windows into open spaces, creating an experience of being immersed in nature. Barrio Santa Fe is a linear project which members of the public may use with or without charge. It includes a host of leisure amenities such as restaurants, cafes, bars, cinemas, museums and aparthotels with leisure amenities. There are five single-level modules located along the length of a walkway, allowing passers-by to transit between each of them and generating enjoyable spaces. These volumes are half buried in the natural terrain with green roofs, giving the illusion of emanating from the ground itself.

Located along the waterfront, the project is part of an extensive land reclamation in the historic part of the city. The 22-storey, twin building development has a phased construction programme and consists of 125,000m² of office space. Retail and public spaces are arranged at the base while parking is provided in a five-level basement with dedicated ramps serving both buildings. The design has carefully considered the hierarchy of public, semipublic, semi-private and private areas in a seamless progression. Access to both buildings is via a central public plaza and each building’s lobby is at the first floor. This

serves to leave the ground floor open for public functions. The development has been designed to achieve LEED ASHRAE Gold certification and has currently been pre-certified Gold. Responding to the local tropical climate, an enhanced, self-shading strategy has been established with the building elevations. All the principal open-air public circulation and amenity spaces have also been provided with effective sun and rain protection. Today, AQWA Corporate stands alone as the forward-looking anchor of Rio de Janeiro’s port revitalisation efforts. Its state-of-the-art design creates efficient and ecological spaces for tenant users who will enjoy 360-degree views of Guanabara Bay and Niteroi Bridge, Pao de Acucar Mountain, Cristo Rendentor Statue and the downtown skyline.

C D  D was founded 20 years ago by Mari Cooper, one of the most famous interior decorators in Peru; as a parallel project 10 years later she launched two important showrooms in Lima where she exhibits important brands that her firm represents. The company has since become renowned for innovative and contemporary designs, using only the finest and most durable materials. Casa San Isidro is an award-winning interior design project for a private residence by MC. The project called for a two-storey building where the ground floor could accommodate the clients’ extensive art collection. It therefore had to feature ample, wide open spaces flooded with natural light. This level also had to cater for regular social events stemming from the

clients’ business activities. The second floor was dedicated to spacious living space for the family as well as private art holdings. The main entrance to the property is light and airy and displays a collection of paintings by Latin American artists. Moving in to the main salon, it becomes apparent how elegant and sophisticated the design is with neutral colours, decorative accents in black and contemporary lines. The stylish wine storage room and bar is a multifunctional space which includes a dining table and entertainment area and open views to adjoining areas. A stunning double height terrace features a grand mural by a Dutch artist and is decorated in a grey colour palette to blend beautifully with the artwork. Presenting a perfect place for al fresco dining it overlooks the outdoor swimming pool.

The company’s award-winning project, Neskuchny Home & Spa, is a new modern complex of five residential sky-scrapers in Moscow. Its launch made the development lead the market of the Russian capital’s expensive housing in early 2017. It also marked the transition to the next stage of high-rise construction for the city. Neskuchny Home & Spa is the city’s first residential sky-scraper project of such an exciting scale, rational idea and development ambitions. For the first time in many years the attention of buyers of high-rise, high-class residences has shifted from the city’s business

district to one of the locations of the Leninsky Avenue and historic Don district, a favourite for many generations of Muscovites. The site area totals 5.6 hectares and the construction of five towers with a height from 140 to 262 metres is divided into five stages. The first, which comprises the highest tower, will be fully operational in mid-2020, while the whole complex is planned for completion in 2023. In one of the bridges between the towers the space between the 35-39th levels is given to the spa complex. This has an area of 2,000m² with a personal zone, fresh-bar and an exclusive for Moscow high-rise, panoramic swimming pool with ionized water. This will be the only swimming pool of its kind in Russia as well as being located at a height of 130 metres.

 G T is a cooperative project of Lisi Development with UN Studio. The 11-storey tower contains 32 apartments (from 85m² to 200m²), three retail units and a residents’ underground car park. All apartments enjoy spectacular views over the Mtkvari River valley and the growing city of Tbilisi. The building, with its integrated connection to the new green plaza, will be the architectural anchor and new landmark of the Lisi Green Town. The extensive use of glass, natural materials and a controlled shading system of terraces, ensures that all requirements for comfortable living are integrated in the project. The apartments’ elevator lobbies and entrance area are linked to the double height interior and exterior verandas. These are planted to create sky gardens and shared spaces for interaction among neighbours.

Furthermore, the lighting scheme of the sky gardens subtly changes with the seasons. The tower is a stacked volumetric composition of vertical villas arranged to enable the surrounding natural landscape and terraces to blend into a new integrated manifesto of living. This results in unique personalised interior spaces and also creates a new indoor/ outdoor experience. The building is vertically divided to enable visual separation between apartments and interrupt its volume along the central design element of vertical verandas. The design concept is based on a combination of the local and traditional Georgian ‘veranda’ approach and smart living solutions. By using verandas as spaces for interaction, the anonymous boundaries of a multi-storied apartment complex disappear. The essence of the design is to create neighbourhoods in the sky, connecting people through architecture and social sustainability.

 V I was founded at the start of the financial crisis at the end of 2007/beginning of 2008 by Lynn and Rob Longley. Disappointed by their own experience as property buyers in France, they were determined to offer something better.
