The International Property Awards… so much more Asia Pacific was the first region to come under the scrutiny of our j udges in this year’s International Property Awards’ programme. I am delighted to report that we have been absolutely inundated with entries of an exceptional q uality which created much excitement amongst our panel of j udges who examined the submissions. I would like to offer my sincere thanks to all those who took part. We chose a particularly novel place to carry out most of the judging this time – a secret underground nuclear bunker in the heart of the Essex countryside. Here, without any distraction from mobile phones or interruption from the outside world in general, we were able to carry out this quite considerable task in total privacy. A number of entries were also outsourced to the appropriate experts. Taking the title of Asia Pacific’s Best Property (Single Unit) is Nadayu Melawati (Embun) by Nadayu Properties Berhad. This stunning, four-storey property is luxurious and artistic as well as spacious and ecologically-friendly. Best Development (Multiple Units) has been awarded to Banyan Tree Residences by Laguna Banyan Tree for its superb levels of quality throughout every aspect of the project’s design and amenities. Clean, bright colours contrasting with black and white walls are just two of the striking elements that won Miami Crescent the Best Interior Design (Private Residence) award for PTang Studio. Top scoring winners from the Asia Pacific Property Awards (including those mentioned above) will now go forward to be re-judged alongside other top scorers from Europe, Africa, the Americas, Arabia and the UK. The ultimate winners will be announced at the grand final of the International Property Awards in London later this year. Well done to these companies and to all the other winners listed within this magazine. I must also highlight the great business opportunities which arise from the many gatherings generated by the awards. Throughout the year we assemble the best companies in the property industry at our business days which take place at each of the awards’ presentations. All entrants and award winners are invited to take part in these events throughout 2 0 1 2 .

FAKE HILLS Located on the coastal city of Beihai, south of China, Fake Hills is set on a 800 meter long, narrow oceanfront site. The fundamental geometry of the architecture combines two common yet opposite architecture typology, the high rise and groundscraper, producing an undulating building typology, resulting in a form of a hill. The geometry of the architecture maximizes potential views for the residents; the continuous platform along the roof becomes the public spaces, with gardens, tennis courts and swimming pools on top of the man-made hills. Each opening in the building allows the sea breezes to pass through and creating ocean views from the interior.
