AP Y’  is to create stunning new living spaces that will make it a leading developer, not only in its home country of Turkey, but also throughout the world. The company is already widely renowned for its high level of build and quality of design and has been hugely successful in winning an impressive 11 awards this year. Istmarin is a mixed-use development on 62,000m of prime beachfront land at Kartal. The project will contain 1,463 properties ranging from studios to 5+1 apartments within five blocks. Each tower has been carefully designed to ensure all apartments have a fabulous sea view and their own terrace space. The lower levels of the towers will provide a shopping centre comprising 258 independent units of 90,000m. Kadir Topbas Culture & Art Center

 M’ Kadir Topbas Culture & Art Centre is a public service development in Sancaktepe. Its main purpose is to create a social and cultural life centre from which the region’s population may benefit. It includes an information house, happy houses centre, conference and exhibition halls with the capacity to host 610 people as well as a bill payment centre. Eight classrooms, two foyers, a café, employee offices, rest rooms and a garage for 80 vehicles complete its extensive facilities. The natural slope of the site and the elevation difference between the two streets were utilised to maximize the usage area, resulting in a spacious architectural design.

New Municipality Building

Sancaktepe Municipality’s New Municipality Building consists of a mayoral floor, deputy mayors’ offices, directorates, a cafeteria, material stores, archives, parking lots and garages. Its aim is to optimise public benefit through the integration of all services provided by the Municipality of Sancaktepe. Recently founded in 2009 by the integration of three different municipalities, this project’s design reflects the mission and vision of this young municipality. Constructed on 38,083m of land, elegant traces of Anatolian Seljuk architecture can be seen on the façade. This will help to ensure that the building will form an aesthetically pleasing structure.

House on a Mountain Stream

  , Yury Zubenko Art Design Studio has more than 200 completed projects. These range from city apartments and offices, restaurants and shops to country houses, cottages and hotels. By adopting an individual approach to each client and fully understanding their needs, the company is able to concentrate on every minute detail, bringing exclusivity to each project. The company has presented two stunning, award-winning projects, both in Krasnaya Polyana, near Sochi, Russia. ‘House on a Mountain Stream’ is situated on a slope surrounded by dense woodland. As its name suggests, a clear mountain stream runs nearby and, due to this fabulous location, the property’s interior design concept has evolved from nature itself.

Grass has been replaced by a warm wool carpet and the branches and trunks of trees are resembled in the construction of the roof and in the curvaceous lines of furniture by Ceccotti. Dense, draped curtains recall the rhythmic flow of a river and the fireplace built of enormous river boulders is a reminder of mountain slopes. The whole interior colour palette is conformed to the contrast between the ash-pastel tones of the walls and artefacts and the vibrant green tones of nature. Walking from one free flow area to another is like strolling through a natural landscape with the outdoors reflected in the mirrored surfaces of polished marble tabletops, and through an abundance of picture windows and doors. The result is a beautiful, nature-inspired interior in perfect harmony with its glorious exterior surroundings.

Apartment Hotel House of Sun

The ‘Apartment Hotel House of Sun’ is located on the stunning Caucasus coast amid woodland and mountain streams. Following a strict design concept, Zubenko has created its interiors in an English style that complements its natural environment outside. Every part of the hotel is designed to contrast beautifully; the silver pearl colours of halls, kitchens, living rooms, bathrooms and bedrooms are supported with ‘blotches’ of dark furniture, etchings, consoles and backlights to great effect. The hotel’s impressive entrance features a square ceiling lantern with rounded corners ‘pointing’ to the four main spaces through its shape: entrance doors, reception desk, ‘soft zone’ with mirrored niche and the stairs/ elevator area. This is combined with an English mosaic floor, the centre of which is adorned with four square decorative panels.

The floor of each hotel storey is also decorated with a central mosaic panel and two smaller panels to denote the area of the lift entrance; not only does this look attractive, it also adds stylistic unity. Spacious apartments have tall, wide windows with understated sills to allow more light, air and purity of nature to enter each room. The bedrooms are given a calm, warm atmosphere by the use of plain textured Flemish wallpaper, Provence style furniture and soft carpeting. Each one is also fitted with an authentic English woodburning stove which, in addition to its decorative function, brings a living fire to the interior. Overall, just three different materials: wood, ceramics and metal have created the historical atmosphere of warmth and comfort that was required for the desired image of this hotel.

 B’  interior design studio dates back to 1999. Since then, the company has specialised in planning and executing customised interiors and building unique houses. Each of its projects is specially created to suit the individual tastes, needs and lifestyle of every client. The studio has a particular liking for and understanding of historical styles, for instance those from the Empire and Classicism eras to Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The professional team at Tatiana Bozhovskaya consists of experienced architects, painters, designers and decorators. Top-class contractors are also involved for construction works and every phase of their activity is carefully monitored and controlled. This ensures that clients can place complete trust in the studio to develop turn-key interior/ exterior designs of any level of complexity.

Over the last 15 years, the company has gained a wealth of experience in working with indoor and outdoor spaces of both residential and civil buildings. During this time it has carried out more than 80 different designs of apartments, houses and office spaces and formed trusting partnerships with clients. While working on projects with the Tatiana Bozhovskaya team to create an environment tailored for their needs, clients often become good friends and return to the studio again and again. Tatiana Bozhovskaya’s double awardwinning project is Palovo Residence in the Istra district of Moscow in Russia. The main task for the studio was to create a grand country house in Baroque style with elements of eclecticism, set over 410m. At the same time, the client’s brief required that the house should feel welcoming and cosy, combining classical

elements with all modern communications and technology. The existing house required a complete reconstruction and has been specifically designed so that windows are present in almost every room. This ensures good insulation throughout the property, thus leading to the reduction of energy costs by heating and lighting the rooms by natural sunlight. Within living areas, magnificent carved décor and massive timber window frames form an intricate floral pattern and serve as styleforming elements. In the master bedroom there is a distinctive motif for this style: a carved bedhead and shelving facades imitating drapery fabrics tied up by ribbons. Bizarre chair shapes in the dining room embody Baroque by striving after smooth, flowing lines and rejecting strict symmetry. This ornate floral pattern is repeated

in the textiles and fabrics used and in the decoration of the ceiling and walls. Meanwhile, a distinct flavour of the East is injected into the basement via an opulent rest room and luxurious hammam. Noble finishing materials together with colourful Baroque motifs reproduce a festive atmosphere of traditional grand country residences yet within a modern house. Natural materials combined with classical forms have been carefully incorporated to meet the exact requirements of the client. Therefore, the interior design features a lot of natural stone and wood as decorative elements incorporating marble, onyx, tiles, wallpaper, painted walls and murals. Overall, the atmosphere of the residence complies with the client’s request to create a secluded ‘nest’ in which he and his family can relax from the stresses and strains of the city.

    high-rise residential and mixed-use project constructed by Sireci Acarsan in Gaziantep, Turkey. Being located in the centre of a fast developing area, Iconova is set to become an icon for future construction in the region. The project has won an impressive amount of awards, spanning every aspect of its architectural design and the quality of its construction. A new and modern design approach was required to ensure Iconova formed an inspiring landmark project for the rapidly developing locality. As the first of its kind in the region, it consists of seven residential towers, two retail floors, two social-cultural activity floors and four basement car-parking floors. Ideally located opposite the area’s largest shopping centre, Primemall, Iconova offers highly luxurious living in the centre of the city.

Special building materials have been incorporated into different parts of the bored pile constructed project such as GRC (glass fibre reinforced concrete), C50 concrete, a unitised curtain wall and aluminium composite panels in the façade of the buildings. The project will also be subject to an approved wind tunnel test which will be carried out by RWDI Consulting Engineers & Scientists. This will gauge its building performance and ensure its high-rise elements are structurally safe. The layout of the buildings is arranged in a favourable southerly direction while their curvaceous shape adds to the aesthetic appeal of the project as a whole. By pulling back the front line of the buildings by 20 metres from the edge of the plot, it has helped to create an urban promenade with green areas and car

parking places. Another innovation was to design a circular car route around Iconova. Being close to the project’s border, it enabled the creation of courtyards, walkways, cycle paths, courtyards and a beautiful artificial lake. Apartments have a spacious layout and include a wide range of room options (such as 3+1, 4+1, 5+1, 6+1, 7+1 and 7+2). They come complete with either terraces and balconies or a garden if at ground floor level. All are equipped with a basic home automation system. This will include centralised control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, security locks of gates and doors and other systems to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security. Sports and recreational areas have been designed to meld into the surrounding

landscape and enhance rather than detract from the residential towers’ view. These facilities are open to the public as well as residents of Iconova and have a capacity for up to 3,000 people. They include a fabulous indoor heated swimming pools, Turkish hammams, male/female spas, fitness centres, yoga centres, massage centres, a cinevision room, games hall for teens, interactive halls and activity areas for younger children, indoor and outsoor sports fields, a golf course and bike trails. Retail stores offering national as well as international brands, hairdressers, dry cleaning shops, tailors, a shoeshine parlour and a condolence home all add to Iconova’s onsite provision. These first class facilities serve to reinforce Iconova’s aim to provide a welcoming social meeting point for residents and visitors alike.

a year and its façade regained its former 19th century character based on original architectural drawings. This 3,000m façade proved to be one of the main challenges (and successes) of the development. It was kept structurally supported during the entire construction phase with a 90-100 ton temporary steel support system. Meanwhile, the entire interior of the original structure was demolished and rebuilt, including the addition of five underground floors that did not previously exist. The new internal structure and superstructure comply with the highest 21st century technical and sustainability standards and were designed by the awardwinning architect Andras Gelesz. Horizon Development made it a top priority to restore the unique architectural and aesthetic details authentically and fit them into the unity of the new building. As well as the façade, the main interior courtyard and the impressive wrought/

cast iron structure of the main stairway – originally designed by Gustav Eiffel’s firm – were all restored to their one-time beauty and reinstalled in their original position. Eiffel Palace is a flagship project of historic and sustainable development in Hungary. However, the building has also worked as a catalyst in beautifying its urban environment. Horizon Development has considered it a related task to refurbish the neighbouring streets by way of new pavements, public benches, planting additional trees and creating new parking areas. From the very beginning of the development, Horizon had a very close collaboration with the 5th district municipality of Budapest, both on the theoretical and practical levels. This has ensured that the plans for the district as a whole and the developer are in sync to point towards a joint, harmonious city development concept from which the entire society may benefit.

   Nobel Tower, a technologically advanced high-rise commercial building, was prepared by Iron Tower Investment in cooperation with renowned Polish architecture office Studio ADS. The chief architect, Piotr Z. Barełkowski, is a winner of multiple architectural awards. Iron Tower Investment aims to handle all stages of construction projects from initial consultations, through architecture and construction to leasing, sale and project management. Over the last 10 years, the company’s multi-branch team has participated in completing construction projects all over Poland. The client’s brief for the award-winning Nobel Tower was to design a building within a new science and technology park in downtown Poznan. The basic criteria for the design was to meet the demands stipulated for financing investment projects funded by the European Union. These funds came from the Regional

Operational Programme for supporting investment projects related to the Regional Innovation Strategy. Planning regulations issued by the local authorities required that the historic villa and garden located at the front of the plot must be preserved and that the area should accommodate two 55 metre high buildings of up to 13.5 metres wide. The development line also had to be moved back to match that of the existing villa and all car parking provision had to be provided within the plot. The latter was facilitated by incorporating a two-level underground car park with a common drive-in platform for both towers. The development was to be constructed in two stages. Firstly, one high-rise including all related facilities was to be erected with the twin tower’s construction envisaged for the future. Meeting the needs of the science and technology park, Nobel Tower had to include appropriate office space for small and medium

sized companies; comprehensively furnished Plug&Work offices for start-up companies (socalled ‘business incubators’); open laboratory space for medical companies conducting research and development operations, blood diagnostic laboratories; a day care surgery; and conference centre with catering facilities. Taking inspiration from the structure of smooth muscle cells, the bionic form of the building’s façade conceals massive external walls. These are made of a unique form of concrete slab and so eliminate the need for inside columns. This enhances energy efficiency, ensures the air-tightness of the building and enables open plan interiors for optimum flexibility of leasable space. By adopting the solution of an external shaft connected to the tower by a cargo elevator, the maintenance needs of the laboratories can be easily accessed and carried out. The exposed reinforced concrete ceilings, with a piping system embedded during construction,

serve an additional function as hot or cold water runs through them. TABS, Thermatically Activated Building Structures, constitute the basic heating and cooling system of the building. Thanks to a large storage mass, TABS ensures a stable temperature inside the building. Nobel Tower is designed to offer additional increased comfort for its occupiers while minimalising the use of primal energy. This has been made possible due to hypoallergenic façade ventilation, individual climate control adjustment in every room and opening windows. Dispersed façade ventilation means that fresh air is directly conducted from the outside to inside of the building without any ventilation ducts, while CO detectors in every room also optimise the air exchange. Combined with extensive safety and security measures and the utmost attention to medical sanitary-hygienic standards, Nobel Tower is ideally suited to the stringent requirements of its tenants.

   as an architecture and design platform iki design group has been contributing to modern architecture ever since. No matter what the scale and scope, whether urban or rural, iki design’s solutions are conceived to be functional, inspiring and ‘timeless’. The company has won multiple awards for its projects, four of which are highlighted here. Superfire Residences is a three-tower condominium project of 685 units on a former industrial site in Istanbul. Standing on a Y-shaped, 44,992m plot, its design target was to create a new high-rise development in harmony with the surrounding non-urbanised site. The two 30-storey and one 35-storey blocks offer a mixture of lofts and flats targeted at young professionals and families. The client selected the design which offered excellent views towards forests and the

city. By careful positioning of the transparent glass towers, residents will be ensured optimum viewing as well as privacy. The top of the parking podium features a landscaped pool deck and recreation area providing private outdoor spaces. All these factors will help realise these elegant high-rise towers’ aim to become a modern landmark on the skyline. The Stock Exchange Market, Borsa İstanbul, required an institutional design to operate as headquarters for the precious materials and diamonds market. The client’s key notions were ‘transparency and safety’, giving iki the challenge to transfer these values via architecture. Therefore, the architectural design was mainly inspired by an analogy of natural stones and mines. Several arrangements around the main entrance and the gallery bring a vibrant and dynamic feature

by employing texturised elements symbolising the jewels’ multi-faceted surfaces. Bursa Culture Park Theater is a new performance hall catering for multiple functions, amplified music such as rock and jazz, as well as musicals, dance, congresses and banquets. The main requirement stipulated by the client was to create a new open theatre facility which would truly integrate the needs of the community with those of visitors. The design had to exceed all their expectations and instill a thirst for culture that could be experienced by everyone. Therefore, iki has designed the building like a fragile and iconic community meeting point within a protective case. The multipurpose performance structure has been formed like a sturdy cage in a cocoon with a curved volume. The hall consists of two parts, one of which is stable while the other is hydrolic and

mobile. Its estimated audience capacity is 5,053 with a target of hosting hundreds of varied performances each year. The design goal for Cyprus Hotel in Northern Cyprus was to create an integrated architectural solution for the resort hotel, its casino and associated hotel services. These include the landscape design that reflects the hotel’s cultural and local aspects and complement its spectacular setting, surrounded by green and blue. Consisting of 250 five-star rooms and luxury suites, the new six-storey hotel also offers a ballroom, hammam and spa, swimming pools and all-day dining facilities. The inspiration for the architectural design was mainly based on the shore and topography of the site. Overall, the positioning of Cyprus Hotel maximises the stunning sea views from each and every unit.

 H D and Interiors is a highly successful architectural and interior design company based in Turkey. The company has won two awards for its project Konforist edu.suites in Istanbul. The girls-only student accommodation offers private space equally suitable for socialising as well as studying. All custom-designed suites are furnished with desks, kitchen niches, bathroom and bed compartments while some include terraces and balconies. They range from single and double units to three and four-bed dormitories, each carefully planned to provide optimum space. Renda Helin’s main goal with their design is to make every student feel at home and comfortable within their living environment.

Great care has also been taken in the design of common areas which include a café, hobby kitchen, study room, cinema, swimming pool, sauna, Turkish bath, fitness and laundry areas. Positive colours and messages have been incorporated and the waggish names given to all areas (and even the washing machines) turn each one into a unique space or object. The building itself has a semi-detached structure and so its most important part is the front façade. Therefore, its exterior window shutters feature concept colours and are designed to offer shade and privacy. They also transform the façade into an interactive design and bring life to the building, making it instantly recognisable as a place for the young.

  , Allcon Investment has grown and evolved ever since yet still carefully upholds the main features and values it first adopted. The company has built a solid reputation for the design and construction of buildings meeting both Polish and international construction standards and regulations. Allcon’s award-winning office development Łuycka Plus is in Gdynia in the north of Poland. The project’s goal was to create more office space for the present tenants of Łuycka Office Park as well as opportunities for potential new companies. The building façade has been conceived as an aluminium curtain wall system. This has been developed to maximise natural lighting within the office

spaces. The north façade is fully glazed while the other sides have been given opaque strips to minimise overheating and reduce potential traffic noise. Łuycka Plus has been designed as an open space type office with a central building core. A terrace at the third floor and an entrance arcade on the ground floor form the main features of the building. The entrance area includes reception, office space and technical rooms while floors one, two and three are based on a rectangular plan. Meticulous space planning has provided optimum building depth and facilitates multi-tenant space subdivisions. Built according to the latest technological solutions, the project has resulted in a highly efficient and sustainable development.

  , Hasan Sozuneri Architecture specialises in designing buildings in Turkey and internationally. Successfully completed projects include those for tourism, health, industry, sports, commercial and residential purposes. The company was commissioned by ipekis Group, a textile firm that has produced silk for several decades, to design ‘ipekis thermal cure center’. Although Bursa in Turkey, which is on the historic silkroad, has been famous for its thermal waters since Roman times, its existing treatment and tourist facilities had become both old and inadequate. Therefore, as there is a thermal water source right next to its old factory building, ipekis decided to replace it with a modern cure facility.

Sozuneri’s innovative design for the complex is inspired by the way silk is produced by putting the cocoon into boiling water, before unwinding the fibre and twisting it into thread. As the word ipek means silk in Turkish, ipekis thermal cure center perfectly resembles cocoons unfurling in hot water. Due to the historical importance of silk and silk production for both the city and the project’s site, this final design was liked and approved by both the client and authorities. The thermal cure centre has been designed as a business hotel complete with an extensive physiotherapy unit. The state-of-the-art project includes thermal pools, a polyclinic, two accommodation blocks as well as seminar and meeting rooms.

 I H became the leading independent brokerage and investment banking firm in Turkey soon after its establishment in 1990. The company transformed into an investment portfolio company in late 2004, drawing on its extensive investment banking experience. Van Shopping Mall is a double-award winning project developed by Global in the city of Van in Eastern Anatolia. It has been designed on the basis of the socio-cultural structure and the preferences of the local population and is integrated into the centre of the city. An inviting front entrance with cafes and their terraces on both sides of the façade welcomes pedestrians, while a spacious main

entrance with high ceilings makes a striking first impression. The main gallery area has a wide skylight and escalators enabling vertical circulation within the three floors. Disabled access has been given great consideration throughout the building, as has the maximisation of natural sunlight. The inner design of the mall features more than 95 different units including major anchor stores, small retail shops, restaurants and a food court. A movie theatre complex equipped with the latest technology, children’s entertainment centre, prayer room, baby care and nursing rooms have also been incorporated to ensure all visitors enjoy their experience. Overall, the feel of the villa is of a relaxing weekend retreat in which to escape from the stress of the city. Created for a family of five, Sasalı Villa has been designed to allow maximum amounts of sunlight to flow into its living spaces. Tasarımca Design Office’s additional aim was to connect the family via its central living area, kitchen and dining area, while carefully retaining private areas. An olive tree, symbol of the origin of life, also forms a welcoming feature under the sunlight whenever the main door is opened.

Torre Espacio is an awardwinning example, located on an exceptionally privileged site in Madrid, Spain. The project consists of 43 office floors, two corporate floors at the top, three floors of commercial spaces at the base and six levels of underground parking. Besides providing efficient and attractive office space, Torre Espacio is designed to energise the street level as well as animate Madrid’s skyline. Its design evolves from a square plan at its base to a gently curved lozenge, shaped by the intersection of two quarter-circles, at

its crown. These intersecting curved surfaces are necessarily composed of many separate panels that must be individually fabricated and assembled. Hence there was a need to discover a geometric order that could facilitate the desired evolution from square to quarter-circle. The solution was to subdivide the building section into 44 horizontal layers and then subdivide each quarter-circle of the plan into an equal number of radial segments. The intersections of successive layers in section with successive segments in plan define points along a vertical curve. This gives the resulting tower its visually appealing sense of energy, almost as if it were a living organism that had sprung from the earth on which it stands.

a five-star hotel of 24,000m. In addition, 212,000m of land is left for use as public parks, roads and recreation areas. Vadistanbul will be the new city centre of Istanbul with 1,350,000m of total built up area and 35,000 residents working and living within it. Developed on a previous industrial area, it is in a prime location next to a ring road. This area was previously on the outskirts of Istanbul but is now at the centre of the city with direct access to every part. Located right next to the conjunction of three ring roads, Vadistanbul is also connected to the main metro system by a 935 metre high-rail which has been constructed by the developers. This high-rail connection will be the first private metro in the whole of Istanbul and provides further ease of access.

   pedigree reaching back to 1993, Rose Group is a leading development and investment company operating in Moscow and the surrounding environs, with a particular emphasis on residential projects. Microgorod V lesu – meaning a microcity in the woods – exemplifies modern community-led living, situated on the northwestern outskirts of Moscow. Its location close to both a protected natural forest and to direct transport links for the city allows a meeting of urban and rural lifestyles. Built in phases, this is a balanced and fully self sufficient residential neighbourhood with a variety of fitted-out yet affordable apartments and many public facilities including schooling at all age levels, convenience stores and street-level retail.

Future phases will feature a pedestrian boulevard and additional schooling to cater for the growing population. Ultimately, the project will provide accommodation for over 35,000 people in 1.5 million square meters of housing across a total area of 100 hectares. Local identity created by individual façade designs of core apartment sections in each block. This creates an appearance of different buildings adjacent to each other. The familyorientated housing has entailed a focus on child-friendly features, with vehicle-free courtyards, ample play and sports areas, and apartment designs catering to the needs of childcare. The scope of this project means that while buyers have already occupied properties in the first phase, construction of the second phase is anticipated to be completed in early 2017.

  V sur Mer, France to a family of hoteliers, Nicolas Duchateau discovered his passion for interior design while helping renovate the rooms of a luxury establishment. At a glance, he can assess the potential of a location offering unimagined solutions that perfectly suit it and the client’s personality with ingenious use of space, light, style and furnishings. Acting as both designer and director, Nicolas follows each project through from start to finish. This is exactly what he did when commissioned by a young couple who had fallen in love with Villefranche sur Mer. They had purchased four completely dilapidated maids’ rooms of 100m within a typical local building. The brief given was short –

minimalist, neutral, bright, spacious, ease of care. Inspired by reality TV shows, the couple only wanted to see the project when it was completed. As the rooms were directly under the roof, Nicolas aimed to give each one either a sea or sky view. During the demolition process of uniting the four subdivided maids’ rooms, he realised there was a ventilation canopy. This became a fabulous skylight, flooding the apartment with natural light. Meeting the brief entirely, the space is completely optimised by invisible storage space and sliding doors giving a wonderful impression of fluidity and minimalist volume. Unpretentious and welcoming, the apartment is also full of stunning design surprises.

The company offers customised solutions with great attention to detail. It often collaborates with architects to bring a unique and sophisticated elegance and also to choose the most important materials. Divided into two floors, this 350m, awardwinning property’s structure is divided by two distinct guidelines. One stretches the entire length of the layout while the other is central, developing vertically and creating an almost unexpected volume of space. Huge windows overlook the surrounding landscape and also define the vertical line of the house. They allow

natural sunlight to enter into a large amount of the living space, enabling Martinuzzi to use materials and colours in dark tones without affecting the puristic atmosphere requested by the client. Some of the walls have been painted in a dark shade of grey combined with a neutral light tone for the lower ceilings. This combination with dark furniture and accessories creates a luxurious look crowned by penetrating rays of light right through until sunset. Light fittings have also been chosen to work in perfect harmony with the colours of the interiors. The use of soft, natural materials for the fabrics soften both the furnishing forms and the dark colour palette, resulting in interiors of a discreet and timeless elegance.

The company is renowned for public space projects such as museums and exhibitions (i.e. The Core Exhibition in POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw) and renovations. It has also completed interior design projects for offices, industrial and recreational facilities and private residences. Zoom Natury Recreational Park in Janów Lubelski is the first interactive scientific and recreational centre in Poland dedicated to the environment and ecology. Its six facilities including modern laboratories and multimedia exhibitions were designed by Nizio Design International. This involved the creation of a modern facility on 10 hectares with buildings designed so as not to dominate the environment. Innovatively, they give

the impression of being embedded in and integrated with the extraordinary natural landscape surrounding the waters of the bay. The Old Mine Science and Art Centre in Wałbrzych aims to revive the cultural and social life of the region and become its trademark. It covers four hectares of land and 16 former coal mine buildings that have been given a new shape, purpose and function by Nizio Design International. The brief was to create a complex with educational, cultural and entertainment functions. These technical monuments of the industrial past were to be accompanied by the most modern tools for the creation and presentation of new artistic values. This was successfully achieved through studying historical documents, analysing old plans and thoroughly examining the buildings’ physical condition.

 A D (GAD) is one of the most innovative architecture practices in Turkey and is a leader in research and concept design since 1994. Based in Istanbul and New York the practice has gained an international reputation and has received over 30 awards. Kundu Villas, an award winning project, is an impressive residential development 20 kilometres from Antalya. It includes four large, 22 medium and 12 small residential units. Each unit has its own car park and is linked to public transport via underground connections. The project combines sustainable design and build principles by sourcing only locally available materials. The north-south orientation maximises the use of sunlight as each dwelling is fitted with photo-voltaic panels that produce energy. Carefully positioned openings take

advantage of the natural daylight and also aid in cross ventilation. The exterior cladding acts as a shell that regulates climatic conditions and improves interior lighting. Yasar Holding Pinar Logistics centre, located in the Esenyurt district in Istanbul is another award winning project by GAD. This second-generation logistic centre has a total area of 25,633m. The centre combines management, offices and storage departments all under one roof and so required an interactive design. By utilising a second-skin facade, energy loss has been reduced. The one meter void between the two facades also allows the air-conditiong system to be concealed, provides space for green planting and controls the flow of daylight. Natural ventilation of the office area is generated by landscaped inner courtyards with automatic roof skylight systems.

 C P Residence in Istanbul Turkey is an award-winning project by the renowned architect and interior designer Orkun Indere. The 20 yearold American-style property at Kemer Golf & Country Club has been transformed into a ‘modern Baroque’ style contemporary home for a couple with three children. Based on two acres of land, the 900m house includes a basement, entrance floor, upper floor and an attic. The client’s brief requested a spectacular and splendid design, mixing classical effects with contemporary materials and the latest technology. In view of this, traditional elements such as handcrafted wood, damask textured wallpapers, well shaped parquet work, detailed ironworks,

gigantic interior domes and marble have been incorporated into the design. One of the major changes to the layout was to remove the employees’ area on the basement floor with a separate staircase entrance from the outside. This area has been added to the interior plan with a wooden and glass conservatory together with a secondary staircase for the residents to have direct access downstairs into the cinema room. This means that the house now has two staircases, one crosses the whole building from the upper levels down to the basement while the other leads to the new employee area beneath the kitchen. The previous indoor garage area has also been transformed into a stylish guest room with en suite bathroom.

  , Tozun Interior Design Studio provides interior, architecture and design services across both residential and commercial projects in Istanbul and beyond. Tozun’s design of a 20th floor private apartment in Onaltidokuz Residences, Istanbul, represents the client’s requested merging of two of the company’s concepts for the project – a modern theme for the living areas and a contemporary-classic approach to the bedrooms. To soften the transition, gentle beige and off-white colour is used throughout the residence, together with golden accents, walnut veneers and a silky matt finish. Contemporary artworks by renowned Turkish artist Rasin Berk add value and striking visual features. Particularly unusual elements

include the use of prestigious salmon leather and selective application of highly reflective mirror tiles. For the showhome at Novacity, Tozun was contracted to provide three different apartment plans for use in marketing materials, of which one went on to be realised for the sample apartment. The aim was to create a lived-in mix and match ambience reminiscent of a home that the residents have furnished over time, rather than one overall contiguous design that could look artificial. The showhome needed to appeal to families with children, so striking and playful bedrooms for girls and boys were incorporated with bright colours and artistic murals. Feedback from buyers visiting the show apartment proved to be extremely good.

 R E has its origins in Nuremberg dating back to 1936 and has been run by three consecutive generations of the Sauer family to date. Over the years, the company has greatly expanded and now has offices in Germany, Spain, Switzerland and England. Villa Gioia is Sauer Real Estate’s awardwinning new development in Brissago, in the Canton of Ticcino, Southern Switzerland. The property is located close to Ascona, one of Switzerland’s most prestigious cities, and consists of six luxurious apartments, all with breathtaking views of Lake Maggiore. However, building in such a prime position did not come without its problems. Due to the steep topography of the terrain, many materials

had to be flown in by helicopter as it was impossible for large trucks to access the site. This challenge conquered, Villa Gioja’s apartments were built to the highest specifications and range from 200m2 to 400m2 including spacious terraces. A beautiful infinity pool with surrounding sundeck adds to the residents’ amenities. Due to the property’s superb location, the architectural design has naturally put a lot of emphasis on capturing the fabulous view to best effect. Therefore, the apartments feature large window openings surrounded by special ‘sky frames’ to keep frame widths to the bare minimum. Villa Gioja was completed in June, 2014 and all six apartments were sold to discerning buyers.

Linked to the Kaiserhof Hotel, Gabriel’s is a gourmet restaurant located in an adjacent commercial space. This post-war building, with a low ceiling typical of the time, long thin shape, and just two small windows, presented a range of challenges to the designers in creating a luxurious eatery with appeal to sophisticated diners. What had the potential to be a dark and unwelcoming space has been transformed using golden and pale shades matched with remote-controlled coloured lighting

systems to generate effects ranging from simulations of daylight to the impression of sunset in the evening. Textures used across the seating and wall panelling help to pick up the lighting design. Combining modern architecture and the latest technology with traditional elements reminiscent of old Łódź factories, it will be user friendly for visitors and lessees as well as the environment. In order to revive the spirit of one of these factories formerly on Sukcesja’s site, the investor has restored a brick wall along the main, front façade of the building. This also ensures coherence with the city’s industrial architecture. This brick façade has been complemented by a glass frontage and characteristic openwork ‘lace’, an element strongly referring to Łódź traditions of fashion and design.

Sukcesja will feature over 114,000m of usable area with around 46,000m of rental area occupied by a shopping mall, entertainment and relaxation zone with a nine-room multiplex, bowling alley and fitness club plus a car park with over 1,000 spaces. The architect and the investor – Fabryka Biznesu, have put great emphasis on providing maximum amounts of sunlight throughout the development. Designed in the form of a loop of rectangular buildings with slightly rounded corners, this provides good visibility between the storeys. The investor has also ensured that the area around Sukcesja is attractively arranged. There will be ample greenery, a seasonal gastronomic zone with gardens and an expansive terrace with city views in the entertainment and recreation zone.

The distinctive style and culture of the OT implicitly gave CO Architecture the grounding for their design which has adapted the colours and motifs of the two-dimensional magazine to a tangible three-dimensional interior space. Taking catchphrases, typography, illustration and consistent elements from the magazine, CO Architecture applied these to walls, windows, panels, artwork and furniture

throughout the café, using custom built elements. This eye for detail extended to the uniforms for the waiters and kitchen staff. The interior incorporates exposed brickwork, tactile wooden flooring and recurring vertical rebar cage-like features, instilling a sense of history and groundedness to the space. Mirrored panels serve to open up the more enclosed areas. A welcoming combination of standalone and banquette seating encourages socialisation and conversation, promoting the ideals of OT magazine. Integrated bookshelves create a library to enhance the cultural philosophy of the publication. The results speak for themselves; within an hour of first opening, every seat was taken and a long queue stretched outside – a testament to the design’s success.

This residence, however, was designed for a single man who refused to settle for a mediocre design and wanted to show what a bachelor pad really can represent. He teamed up with Govaert & Vanhoutte Architects to perfect a minimalist approach to a masculine design. The house is designed as a collective space with the main purpose of facilitating the bachelor’s daily activities, which includes the basic daily functionalities but mostly concentrates on social happenings. This bachelor pad has to become a symbol for the modern cosmopolitan male, as it reflects

the owner’s awareness of culture, arts and architecture; while at the same time it acts as a lure for extravagance and social interaction. One the ground level, the house embodies a horizontal concrete volume, holding both interior and exterior space. The whole volume is completely opened up towards the back of the terrain, overlooking a river. Mobile wooden panels allow partial closure for more privacy towards the river if needed. The second level holds the bedrooms and bathrooms. The master bedroom is connected with a private terrace with Jacuzzi. The basement incorporates space to display several cars, a bar and cinema area.

EL BLU  was founded by the architects Clairy Nitsa and Vasilis Christodoulou. Over the years, the company has successfully carried out the development of a significant number of hotels and private residences. Its services include architectural studies, interior design and decoration, technical consulting and project management. ISTION club & spa in Chalkidiki, Greece features an award-winning design by DEL BLU architetti. Its owners commissioned the company to undertake this project involving a five-star hotel complex in the adjacent plot to their existing four-star operation. The approved design was one which turned the highly elongated plot into an advantage and differentiated the hotel complex

aesthetically and volumetrically from its surroundings. DEL BLU’s solution is reminiscent of the locality with its trekking routes, alleys and paths that characterise Greek and indeed most Mediterranean villages. An internal pedestrian pathway accesses all facilities while the diagonal layout of the buildings ensures a better orientation and view of the sea and sunset. This positioning also enhances the idea of dialogue and interaction between the individual buildings and the whole with its surrounding natural environment. The seven central buildings all have a different appearance, however the overall image projected by the layout and facade is uniform and harmonious. This is due to the common architectural elements that are invariably combined within each building.

   New York, P&T Interiors works on residential commissions on an international scale – a testament to their reputation and skills. The company’s focus on close relationships with clients allows a boutique and highly personal approach. “The Tower” in Luxembourg is an adaptation of four historic 250-year old landmark buildings into contemporary spaces that retain a farmhouse feel without the small utilitarian rooms typical of agricultural residences. This involved the creation of grand public areas in the tall main building together with a series of guest suites in separate buildings. While external elements remained generally unaltered, construction of a sculptural staircase ascending the tower created a flowing

passageway that unified the space while maintaining minimalism. A particular quirk required by the clients was a caged area for their beloved parrot – P&T integrated this into the central public room of the tower, creating a tall aviary feature. Custom wallpaper prints of tin tiles contrast with the polished concrete walls and wooden flooring to retain a rustic feel in the otherwise modern design. A similar approach was taken with furniture and textiles, using rougher and worn stylings in the public spaces that turn into softer but bolder fabrics in private bedrooms. The majestic but potentially overwhelming height of the larger rooms is ameliorated by the use of many lower-hanging pendant lights which serve to create a more intimate feel whilst generating vertical focus for the viewer.

The architectural concept was approved by both Russian and international architects, urban specialists and the client. The main idea was to increase the gathering space at the main entrance by opening up the volume, letting the public plaza inside and bringing valuable for this area sunlight deep inside the volume. Fully understanding the site, city and needs of the clients, the design is economically sensible, relatively cheap and easy to construct. The facade panels are six metres high, as are the floors, so only have to be fixed at top and bottom. They are made of doublesided material, thus providing both interior and exterior solutions. Additionally, the

implementation of media screens in its composition eliminate the need for a large number of exterior advertising structures. As the surrounding buildings are typical panel mass production housing of the 80s with a few older, non-heritage buildings, architects did not follow any vernacular style. Instead, considering the needs of the site, its viewing axis and compositional issues, the architectural design seeks to create a contrast with a fresh, dynamic, yet friendly volume. Façade metal panels are ‘pearl’ finish. These reflect the colours of the sky and change with the environment during the day. To bring more dynamics in, turning lamels were introduced to smooth the transition from solid faced to glazing. During the night computer controlled LED lights hidden between these lamels are turning the whole volume into a single media organism.

The management’s brief required that Seljukid architecture should be referred to in its design and that, due to the urgent need of new space, construction

would be phased, starting with the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. The overall vision for the campus was to consider the complex not solely as an educational building but also as an integral part of the social and cultural life of the city. Therefore, to achieve the adherence and sustainability of social and cultural interface, the planning of the university is configured around a central spine or alley. Designed on the highest point of the site, this alley connects the east hill and the west valley to minimise the topographic differences. Moreover, it provides beautiful scenery towards the historic city centre. All faculty buildings are oriented either towards the west or east scenery and located around designated pedestrian walkways.

 Iı is an interior and product designer and also the cofounder of margo interior & product design. Since 2000, she and her team have successfully completed many residential, retail, restaurant and hotel projects. Tanya uses the contrast of old and new, dark and light, modern and traditional to combine raw and natural materials in stunning, new contexts. The company was commissioned to create the interiors for Ramada Hotel & Suites, Adana, Turkey. Tanya began by visiting other 5-star hotels in the region to understand the needs and demands of the guests fully. Because Adana is a Mediterranean city, the chosen design enables guests to feel the effects of

natural sunlight during the day and the sky at night in the interior. The reflections and warmth of the sun’s rays are absorbed through the frame of the atrium, while 41 paper lanterns made from recycled and hardened paper hang from variable cable lengths. Suspended under the sky roof on a steel bar, they are dramatically effective whether switched on or off. Spiral spheres create a striking entrance to the hotel and, instead of perpendicular and sharp furniture, smooth and round corners create soft, fluid lines. The bright and warm colours of orange and lime were chosen to relate to the image of Adana which, supported by natural wood, forms a contemporary and timeless environment.

Bosphorous Loft is an award-winning interior design project by Sia&Moore Mimarlık Dekorasyon. The client’s preference was for a classical style that would prove both elegant and highly luxurious. As the property was intended for VIPs, its design had to be appropriate – rich, beautiful and extremely comfortable. Sia & Moore’s design solution was to create

a harmonious interior with bright, vibrant colours, lots of interesting accessories and décor. Every detail about this home is truly luxurious and unique. Gold features strongly as it is visually alluring and conveys status and wealth. For example, it brings richness to heavy velvet or damask curtains by the addition of golden passementerie and lavish gold thread tiebacks. Gilded ornate or plain gold picture frames are also often used to illuminate the colours in a painting and draw the eye to the subject. This same concept has been used to great effect, bringing attention to particular aspect of a room or its furnishings. Classic luxury paired with natural design elements have resulted in a stylish, yet ultimately cosy, retreat.

 P I (DPI) is a multinational architecture and interior design firm based both in Milan and Istanbul. Its mission includes providing high quality architectural solutions through a talented and efficient team. Esteworld is DPI’s double award-winning project in Istanbul, Turkey. It is the country’s first plastic surgery hospital and provides many different treatments. The client’s particular requirement was to have an essential and modern building with A++ technology. Corporate materials, colours and combinations were determined by DPI’s previous projects completed for the group, the building was built from scratch. There were strict rules for the site which determined its maximum height of eight storeys and rectangular shape. Therefore,

to enhance the building’s appearance, DPI worked on the contrasts and continuity of its materials. As an example, brushed granite stone used on the exterior floors, stairs and rams was also used on the ground floor’s exterior walls. Esteworld has a total area of 4,000m with interiors designed innovatively to prevent low height perception through ceiling leveling and hidden LED lights. As the hospital’s aim is to accommodate patients as if it were a hotel, all waiting areas, rooms, policlinics, restrooms and restaurant are designed with warm, welcoming, natural colours and luxurious materials. Hygiene was also of paramount importance and so easy-clean materials such as marble, laminated wood, corian, glass and stainless steel were incorporated to look good and be ideally suited to purpose.
