AS I SIT TO WRITE
this note, we are in the thick of creating the Best of 2023 awards gala. The excitement of knowing the surprises of what is being planned always brings me so much happiness-much like a child waiting to open their presents!
The past few years have been a turbulent road for the wedding industry, but we are finally returning to normalcy and doing the things we love, such as hosting member events and dinner parties. We kicked off the year with our first member event at The Colony Estate with Très LA Catering. Shortly after, we hosted an exclusive Palm Springs retreat for wedding planners to experience the intimate Ingleside Inn and Avalon Hotel. I forgot how much I missed these events, as this is where memories are shared and created. Turn to page 72 to be inspired by the creative details from the Palm Springs dinner party planned by Nicole Alexandra Designs with florals by Leta Verbana, Layered Vintage and many other talented wedding professionals.
Now, as we’re in the throes of producing our annual Best of party, we get the distinct pleasure of sharing who rose to the occasion in 2022 and acknowledge the finalists and winners, which feels more important than ever before. Find out who these pros are on page 49.
My gratitude is abundant for our community, and especially for our beautiful couples madly in love. I am also grateful for our new identity as Iron Diamond Media. Just like everyone, we too have undergone countless challenges and after hard work, we became stronger and greater prepared. We hope your experience brought similar gifts and brings you happiness as you step into creating your future.
Happy wedding planning!

Inspiration for the Nearly Wed
ENCHANTED GARDEN
Once the focal point of a 17th-century convent of Carmelite nuns in Dijon, France, the chapel at Cal-a-Vie Health Spa served as inspiration for this French- and celadonthemed design. A historic wonder of aged stone, the 1615 chapel was shipped to SoCal from France by freight boat and meticulously reconstructed as the health spa’s meditation center. It sits atop a windy hill enveloped by vineyards—a fitting scene for this relaxed design that melds modern California style with Old World architecture. The concept focused on organic textures and soft and airy garden florals while giving a sense of history. The invitations reflected the vision with shades of natural spring green, terra-cotta and sunstone. Loose organic florals of muted champagne, ivory, gentle pinks and celadon green graced the tabletop, which also featured beautiful green floral place settings and terra-cotta linens. A dreamy high-low gown from Marchesa Notte added a modern touch, while a gorgeous ruffled Amsale gown matched the charm of the 400-year-old limestone L’Orangerie, a once-upon-a-time greenhouse for orange trees.

HOLD YOUR HORSES
Zara Wells had always imagined her wedding day would be spent with those she loved most. “Throughout my life, I envisioned having both of my parents walk me down the aisle, side by side,” she says. She pictured Clayton Dragoo, her high school sweetheart, seeing her ascend the altar, with her father and horse-loving mother linked arm in arm with her. When her mother suddenly passed away in 2017, Zara’s “world was shattered.”
Since Zara was 5, her mother’s two horses, Nutcracker and Eva, have been a focal point of the family’s life. Following her mother’s passing, the young couple took over their ownership. “The horses have been a huge part of our daily life, and we feel so very connected to them,” Zara says.
In September 2022, it was finally time to officially entwine Zara’s and Clayton’s lives, with Willow Creek Ranch—which is home to Nutcracker and Eva—as the venue. However, because of health issues, Zara’s father was unable to attend the wedding. Without her parents to accompany her to the altar, Zara chose from her other lifelong loves. “In honor and memory of my mom,” she says, “Nutcracker and Eva were the ones to escort me down the aisle.”
With rolling hills and stunning views for hundreds of acres, the ranch offered the perfect opportunity for dreamy golden-hour photos. Rather than miss out on time spent with their guests at the celebration, the couple planned a “part two” to re-create the entire look of their wedding a week later to capture those magical sunset photos with Nutcracker and Eva. Setting aside an intentional time for photos to honor what’s most important to them meant Zara and Clayton got to be with all of their loved ones, even those not physically present. —Mackenzie

FLORALS, BUT FASHION
Move over bouquets and boutonnieres—there’s a new trend in town. From floral necklaces to headdresses, crowns and earrings, wearable florals are in full bloom. And Brenna Robinson, owner of Beckoning Blooms, loves it. “People overlook flowers as a form of art,” she says. “We’re seeing that evolve as couples have begun incorporating artfully designed wearable flowers on their wedding days. It’s a unique and creative approach that transcends traditional flowers. They hold up longer and are a fantastic wow piece.” —Chelsea

Legendary bridal designer Pnina Tornai is turning her talents to a bride’s finishing touch: shoes. Created in collaboration with Naturalizer, her debut shoe collection, Pnina Tornai for Naturalizer, combines couture and comfort. “When I saw the quality of the shoes and felt how comfortable they are, I knew instantly that that was the feeling I wanted to share with my brides around the world,” says Tornai of her partnership with the iconic comfort-footwear company. The high-fashion shoe line features details such as voluptuous bows, crystal embellishments and delicate laces—with the sole of each shoe featuring a handwritten message from Tornai. The silk shoes are available in a variety of colors, from bridal white to black, champagne, silver, rose gold and even a bold pink. And with Naturalizer’s attention to comfort and fit, Pnina Tornai heels are sure to be an all-day affair, from the aisle to the last dance.
—Lara BurnapAustin, Texas, has been trending for a while now and is only getting hotter with each passing year. CortesLUXURY CELEBRATIONS LIFETIME MEMORIES
PHOTOS BY TARYN SCHAE PHOTOSTHE ART OF CAKE
Nature is the muse that drives Kelly Gray of Kelly Gray Cakes (@kellygraycakes) , who recently expanded her business to Los Angeles. She began baking in Telluride, Colorado, more than 10 years ago and has quietly amassed a devoted following, including celebrity clients such as Kelly Clarkson and Lily Collins. Gray’s artistic confections appear to have been adorned with freshly cut blooms, a testament to her skill with sugar and attention to detail. “I try to bring in as many organic elements as possible while using flora as my main focal point,” explains Gray. “Lately, I’ve been inspired by delicate details on dresses, architecture and design elements of buildings.”
The beauty of Gray’s work comes from her deep investment in designing a centerpiece that blends with the overall aesthetic— and tastes as delicious as it looks. Gray explains, “Reviewing design boards from wedding planners and florists is an integral part of my process, as it influences the floral varieties I’ll replicate for the cake and overall color scheme or mood.” The most important part of her approach is getting to know the clients. “The design process is intimate,” says Kelly. “I take everything into consideration such as the clothes they wear, their favorite music and the flavors they enjoy.” —Lara
Burnap“My aesthetic is elegant, sophisticated and timeless while still being whimsical and playful. Using hyperrealistic sugar art, I’m able to create delicate organic forms that embrace luxury design and serve as an artistic centerpiece to any event.”

WEDDING DICTIONARY
FIRST LOOK: This is an opportunity to privately (with or without the photographer) see your significant other for the first time on your wedding day, before the ceremony. Not only does it offer a calming, intimate moment and magical photo opportunity, but “it definitely does save time,” says photographer Nicole Kirshner of Nicole Kirshner Photography. She adds that, otherwise, couples would spend the cocktail hour taking photos instead of mingling with guests.
LAST DANCE: Couples are generally so busy on their wedding days, they often don’t get a chance to just take it all in and be together. Unlike the first dance, when all eyes are on the couple, a last dance offers them a private moment to be together as their wedding day comes to a close, typically before the send-off. The last dance also creates an amazing photo op.
STRIKE: “This is when vendors come to break down or pick up items,” says Brooke Heflin of Burlap & Bordeaux. Vendors will remove installations after the event. This removal will often need to be scheduled in a staggered manner between vendors, depending on the complexity and size of the event.
VENDOR MEALS: These are meals provided for the wedding vendors at the event. “We need to feed all vendors who are on site at the venue throughout the entire wedding day,” says Heflin. “This can be the production team,
musicians, planning team, photographers, videographers and sometimes venue staff, such as security.”
STYLED SHOOT:
The wedding or elopement designs are created by wedding vendors to inspire real couples with ideas; they also give vendors the opportunity to showcase their work. “Typically, they are styled in a way that is trend-forward, showcasing the latest [trends] or what is to come,” says Kirshner.
CUTTING CAKE: If an enormous wedding cake to feed the entire guest count isn’t a priority or in the budget, a small “cutting cake” is often created specifically for the cake-cutting tradition. “The ‘cutting cake’ is more of a ceremonial centerpiece and may not be large enough to serve all of the guests,” says Autumn Qiu of Autumn Cake Design. “Some couples may choose to have a different type of dessert or cake to provide variety for their guests.”
TOSS BOUQUET:
The bouquet toss often leaves wedding bouquets a wilted mess—not ideal for preservation. “We love creating a separate toss bouquet, rather than using the couple’s so that they can keep their main bouquet as a keepsake,”
A GUIDE TO ALL THE TERMINOLOGY YOU’LL ENCOUNTER WHEN PLANNING YOUR DAYsays Josie Brainard of Good Seed Floral. The toss bouquet is a smaller arrangement fashioned specifically for the tradition, leaving the bridal bouquet intact to preserve.
INVITATION SUITE: This refers to the package of all the paper goods that come with your invitations. “A standard suite typically includes an invitation card, response card with an envelope and the large mailing envelope,” explains Jasmin Sabau of Jasmin Michelle Designs. “Anything extra like a details card for example, is considered an additional insert.” —Mackenzie

CortesWHERE TO WED
FROM LUXURY RESORTS AND CHARMING ESTATES TO VERDANT RANCHES AND URBANE DOWNTOWN LOCALES, THESE NEW VENUES ARE LOCATED JUST A SHORT DRIVE FROM LOS ANGELES
THE COLONY ESTATE in Camarillo
Straight out of a period romance novel, The Colony Estate resembles a genteel mansion made modern. Two grand rosebush-bedecked lawns grace the property, offering dramatic ceremony and reception sites—one featuring a lavish fountain—for weddings of up to 150 guests. The stately courtyard, veranda and antique manor furniture are balanced by a contemporary terrace and a swimming pool area. The panoramic views from the venue’s impressive balcony present a sweeping vista of the surrounding hills and
landscape. The estate really shines after the sun goes down, as there is no shortage of ambient lighting throughout the grounds.
HART & MAIN in Santa Clarita
Looking for an urban downtown vibe? Located in the heart of downtown Newhall, Hart & Main has it all: a quintessential rooftop deck, mid-century modern structures, a full commercial kitchen and bar, plus a pair of suites for getting ready. “Hart & Main is a unique wedding and event space, with indoor and outdoor options
to fit any occasion,” says a spokesperson for the Hart & Main team. “The vision for Hart & Main was to create a purpose-built, versatile and differentiated event space for people to enjoy and celebrate all of life’s special moments.” Not a detail was overlooked during the venue’s construction. Renting the sophisticated space means every base is covered for your special day: a custom bridal suite, complete with a Champagne bar and hair stations; a custom groom’s lounge, equipped with a barber chair and TV; a rehearsal during the week of your wedding;
accommodations for as many as 120 seated guests and 200 cocktail party attendees; and a credit to use toward the venue’s in-house coordinator. As Hart & Main couple Joe and Amanda Barbosa put it, “We were blown away by our experience hosting our wedding at Hart & Main. Not only is the venue stunningly beautiful, the staff went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect.”
TUSCAN ROSE RANCH in Santa Paula
In January 2023, a 72-acre floral ranch just south of the Topatopa mountain range opened its doors to couples seeking the rich and storied romance of the Italian countryside. Three event spaces are
laden with olive trees, balmy herbs and flowers, and include structural elements of limestone, wrought iron and aged stone, all intimately enclosed by hedges of ficus. Fields of lavender dance along the edges of the picturesque vineyard, while Italian-inspired paving tiles meander through the gardens. Head to the Olive Grove for a cocktail hour under string lights with antique limestone benches and French chateau–inspired gravel. Savor a customizable classic California menu at the reception on the Tuscan Terrace—an 8,000-square-foot lawn replete with 400 rose bushes and French lavender—exclusively served by the renowned DJ’s Catering. With two bridal suites in which couples can get ready separately and hotels only 15 minutes away, Tuscan Rose Ranch offers dreamy nuptials from sunup to sundown.
ZACHARI DUNES ON MANDALAY BEACH in Oxnard
If beachside luxury is what you yearn for, Zachari Dunes on Mandalay Beach is the ideal destination. Part of the Hilton collection of hotels, the property provides an all-encompassing wedding experience: a beachfront ceremony, with a team of “Experience Crafters” at your beck and call; an entire block of rooms for you and your guests; an on-site rehearsal dinner; a bridal suite for getting ready; and an opulent ballroom reception. Ballroom not your vibe? Opt for the 3,500-square-foot oceanfront event lawn, which rests above the beach. Or, choose showstopping ocean views and hold your nuptials on the sugary sand of Mandalay Beach, which can accommodate a whopping 300 guests. Choose from several of the venue’s on-site restaurants for a decadent rehearsal dinner, such as fare from both land and sea at Ox & Ocean, or the laid-back Sugar Beats, offering freshly prepared seafood and “adult popsicles,” a resort favorite.
SANTA YNEZ RANCH in Santa Ynez
Options are abundant at this 105-acre organic vineyard and farm. Located about 35 minutes from Santa Barbara, the expansive property has it all: indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces, a romantic Mediterranean-inspired courtyard, a cozy yet impressive wine lounge and an intimate garden patio. Offering a backdrop of a quaint pond, rolling vineyards and lounging farm animals, the Wedding Lawn is a picturesque site for exchanging your vows. Alternatively, the Grand Barn—a historic horse stable—is brimming with rustic charm. Convenient on-site accommodations for couples and wedding parties will also please every kind of guest: There are comfortable yurts for the glampers, the Horse Cabana for animal lovers, the Deluxe Casita for private vineyard views and a tree-house atmosphere and the adorable Spanish stucco Country Cottage. The ranch offers both an indoor and an outdoor kitchen, which can be tailored to the tastes of food-focused couples wishing to have their dream menu. “Our outdoor kitchen has a wood-burning pizza oven, a smoker and a Santa Maria grill,” says venue co-manager Sara Hershkowitz, “Our indoor kitchen is a 28foot trailer with complete kitchen equipment, inside a spacious dedicated catering prep space inside the barn.” —Mackenzie
SylvesterLOVE IN BLOOM
Walking down the aisle surrounded by family, friends and flowers is every bride’s dream. At Haley Hull’s wedding to hockey player Eric Comrie, the aisle was not only beautiful, but truly unique. The elegant couple exchanged their vows in an intimate ceremony at the groom’s family estate in Newport Beach. They envisioned a celebration that had a timeless design, with clean lines and modern details. A black-and-white color scheme was the foundation of the design, and Haley expanded on the idea with long-stemmed white roses lining the aisle.
Pure Lavish Events and Three Petals brought her romantic vision to life: Hundreds of roses in full bloom graced the aisle and arched around the ceremony space where Haley and Eric said their vows. Delicate white-backed chairs turned inward brought a lovely touch to the setting, a design choice made possible by the small number of guests in attendance. The result was classically elegant yet out of the ordinary, and presented the perfect surroundings for highlighting Haley’s sparkling Berta gown as she walked down the aisle. —Lara Burnap

“We take pride in working tirelessly to ensure everything is flawless and exactly as you wanted.”
—Giada De Laurentiis
A wedding in Italy may not be in the cards, but the next best thing has arrived: Superstar chef Giada De Laurentiis has launched Giada Catering. Prepped and ready to serve Southern California, the elevated catering company features sophisticated Italian-inspired menus, a comprehensive cocktail program plus complementing tablescapes. Clients may choose from one of four menus, each of which embraces the flavors and spirit of various regions: Amalfi, Rome, Milan and the California coast. Personally crafted and designed by De Laurentiis, the menus showcase her iconic style, focusing on her interpretation of Italian cuisine melded with California flavors as well as her hand-picked coordinating table design. Guests will dine on De Laurentiis’ famous dishes (lemon spaghetti!) as well as soon-to-be favorites, such as Waldorf panzanella; petrale sole in coconut broth, which is served with Tuscan kale, lime, ginger and anchovy; and much more. —Lara
BurnapWHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO BRANCH OUT INTO CATERING?
“I worked as a private chef in Los Angeles in my early career, so launching Giada Catering was truly a full-circle moment for me. With Giada Catering, it brings me joy to help re-create the same cherished experiences I had growing up in the kitchen with my grandfather, connecting with family and friends over delicious food, for other people.”
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE COMPLEMENTING TABLE DESIGNS?
“I’ve hand-selected each inspiration’s tablescape to feature its own unique aesthetic, from dinnerware, place settings and tablecloths to floral arrangements and accent décor. Each tablescape is intended to represent the inspiration’s namesake. For example, our Rome inspiration melds classic Italian and metropolitan glamour, while Amalfi conveys a luxurious coastal atmosphere with vibrant Mediterranean touches.”
DO YOU PROVIDE TASTINGS TO HELP COUPLES CHOOSE THEIR MENUS?
“Yes! We encourage tastings, not only to sample a wide variety of items, but also to assure that this important element of the wedding day is beyond expectations.”
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE DISH FROM AMONG THE MENUS?
“Our signature lemon spaghetti is the top-selling dish at Giada Vegas, and it is already a favorite with our clients. And the lemon ricotta cookies are a must-have to close out any party!”
AND FINALLY, ARE YOU ON-SITE AT THE WEDDINGS? AND IF SO, DO GUESTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET YOU?
“I always love sharing in these special moments, so whenever possible, yes I’ll be there and will always take the time to meet the couple and guests when I can.”

Sam and Stephen’s wedding was a marvel of creativity that elevated the “enchanted garden” concept. The ceremony at Mizel Estate featured a mirrored aisle, flanked by lush blooms in shades of lavender, dusty rose and cream, leading to the overgrown chuppah. For the reception, the ballroom at Four Seasons Westlake was transformed from floor to ceiling in an explosion of bold colors and various textures, grounded by a custom moss green carpet. The Belgian-rug-inspired dance floor served as a focal point and created a “wow” moment upon guests’ entry. Three unique tablescapes introduced a residential ambiance, each featuring various seating options and vibrant floral arrangements. Canopied lounge areas, with peacock blue walls, gold chandeliers and colorful seating, provided cozy conversation nooks throughout the space.

Eva, a model, influencer and interior designer, was perfection in an embroidered lace Rue de Seine gown and a custom Stetson hat, while her bridesmaids shone in Birdy Grey dresses, with a touch of sparkle added by BHLDN shawls. Johnny was dapper in an auburn suit from Friar Tux.

DESTINATION PALM SPRINGS
THE FUSION OF SPANISH-STYLE AND THE MID-CENTURY MODERN AESTHETIC INSPIRE A FRESH TAKE ON DESIGN
Design: Nicole Alexandra Designs
P hotography: Kate Noelle Photography
Text: Lara Burnap
Venues: Ingleside Inn, Avalon Hotel Palm Springs
Ingleside Inn, sister property to the Avalon Hotel, is one of Palm Springs’ best-kept secrets. The hidden 1920s gem has been fully restored to its Spanish Colonial Revival roots and brims with West Coast charm. Inspired by this historic oasis, Nicole Alexandra Designs introduced a sense of the contemporary by melding the quintessential Palm Springs influences of desert and mid-century modern. “I love the lush grounds of the Ingleside Inn and the intimacy it provides for weddings,” says Alexandra. “You can keep all guests together in one space for the entire event, from ceremony to the cocktail hour and reception.” The foundation of Alexandra’s design is a coral-hued, tile-patterned linen reminiscent of the Talavera tiles found throughout the inn’s architecture. Rattan chairs add a mod element, while Leta Verbena’s organic arrangements of spring-colored florals enhance the verdant grounds.
Start your wedding weekend by giving guests a warm welcome by Ingleside’s pool. “A welcome party kicks off a multiday event, so we need to have a little fun and start the party,” says Jill Fausner of Layered Vintage. “Disco has been super popular these last few years, and we thought it would be fun to do up disco, but in a subtle, elevated way.” Cool touches include signature cocktails with ice cubes that are engraved with the drink’s name, a perfect idea for showing off the bride’s and groom’s initials or monogram.
A stunning MOUNTAIN backdrop, beautiful weather, stark desert landscapes, rock formations, mid-century architecture, and a touch of OLD HOLLYWOOD GLAM make Palm Springs interesting, desirable and beautiful. Truly, a PERFECT California wedding destination.
Janjic,I was inspired by both the classic SPANISH style of the Ingleside Inn and the MID-CENTURY vibes of Palm Springs. I wanted to combine the two to bring a current feel to quintessential PALM SPRINGS

FLOUR POWER
FLORA AND FLOUR BECOME THE MUSE FOR THIS STUNNING DESIGN AND MENU CREATED BY 24 CARROTS CATERING AND EVENTS
Design: Leproux Collective
Photography: Lorely Meza
Text: Lara Burnap
When it comes to creating a dish, a plated dinner or a four-course meal, the 24 Carrots team always delivers an inventive twist—whether in a recipe or a presentation. Thus, starting simply with a single ingredient—flour, in this case—allowed inspiration to bloom and grow organically, “just like food in nature,” explains Carizza Rose, director of marketing and creative for 24 Carrots. “By taking one ingredient and imagining it in various ways, we can challenge ourselves.” Ever playful in its approach to food and design, 24 Carrots turned the retro slogan “flower power” into an inspiring menu and design that incorporated both sides of the pun: flower and flour. “With a beautiful backdrop provided by Found Rentals and floral design by Leproux Collective, the design was whimsical, vibrant yet soft, and was intended to feel like the lines between flour and flowers were blurred,” says Rose.

LAURA & MARK
Married & Celebrated: CIELO FARMS, MALIBU
Date: AUGUST 28, 2022
Music was at the heart of country lovers Laura Phillips and Mark Milz’s vineyard wedding at Cielo Farms in Malibu. With two musicians playing live, a silent disco party and a performance by the groom’s father, this intimate gathering had a soundtrack all its own. The couple exchanged vows in a classic ceremony with a few unique touches that reflected their personalities. The bride, a devoted Britney Spears fan, walked down the aisle to the pop hit “That’s Where You Take Me,” performed live by a keyboardist. Alongside her, floating gardenias in glass planters lined the aisle for a unique water feature. Laura donned a Netta BenShabu lace gown with off-the-shoulder sleeves and a built-in corset for a timelessly chic look. In a sentimental gesture, she wore a vintage hummingbird brooch that once belonged to her late grandmother. The groom kept it cool in a white Tom Ford suit, throwing on a matching cowboy hat later in the night to display his Southern roots. The couple agreed on a simple design, with all-white florals and minimal dark greenery seamlessly blending with Cielo Farms’ landscape. The reception tables were a glamorous Western dream, featuring gold chairs with black velvet backs and cushions, and emerald green details. Crystal chandeliers suspended from the trees imbued the Malibu Hills setting with a high-class country charm. The couple honored their furry friends, Max and Brandy, by naming their curated cocktails after them. The celebration carried on into the night, with friends and family lighting sparklers on the dance floor to send Laura and Mark off on their honeymoon.

CAITLIN & STEVEN
Married & Celebrated: HUMMINGBIRD NEST RANCH
Date: MAY 14, 2022
Enveloped by lush greenery at Hummingbird Nest Ranch, Caitlin Goldstein and Steven Belyanskiy wed in the Santa Susana Mountains surrounded by their loved ones. The ceremony held special significance to seasoned planner Ashley Chanel Events + Design, as she also previously planned two other events for the Goldstein family. The couple chose an elegant, romantic theme reminiscent of a European garden for their special day. As an experienced Los Angeles–based stylist, the bride chose several design elements that evoked the sense of enchantment she had envisioned. With Anna Le Pley Taylor’s artistry, her magical ideas were brought to life with a gorgeous ceremony arch embellished with ample florals. The outdoor venue was made even more visually captivating with a gentle mix of soft pink hues and dark greenery. Following the ceremony, the reception began beneath a spacious transparent tent adorned with cascading floral garlands and twinkle lights to keep the atmosphere of the outdoors alive. The reception design featured delicate gold, white and dusty rose details. Tea lights and a profusion of blooms further illuminated the space, imbuing it with a cozy, inviting vibe. Given that many of Steven’s family members live in Ukraine and could not attend the wedding, it was essential to incorporate elements that felt like home to him. The groom was pleasantly surprised by a celebratory dance complete with white wigs and traditional Ukrainian elements! The night finished with live music, much dancing and endless laughter. The couple’s day was truly a magical scene straight from a fairy tale.

KRISTIE & DIARMUID
Married & Celebrated: REDBIRD, LOS ANGELES
Date: APRIL 14, 2022
The acclaimed Redbird restaurant in downtown Los Angeles proved the perfect choice for Kristie Lo and Diarmuid McCoy’s cuisine-focused wedding. The couple wished to center their day around food, florals and family—with many members traveling from all corners of the globe to attend their wedding. The special day began with an intimate first look at Hotel Figueroa and then shifted to Redbird for the ceremony and reception. Known for its New American cuisine, the restaurant also has an ample outdoor space that was perfectly suited to their wedding day feast. Inessa Nichols Design brought the color into the day by designing a magnificent ceremony pillar and a dramatic floral arrangement in hues of yellow, orange and magenta that was suspended over the dining table. Chef Neal Fraser and the culinary team served a beautiful dinner featuring dishes such as chawnamushi (a Japanese custard) with lobster, hamachi crudo with blood orange ponzu, cavatelli with foraged mushrooms and English peas, porterhouse steak and much more. Celebrating Poppy, the couple’s daughter, was a top priority, so they named the farmers-market-themed seating chart in her honor and incorporated illustrations of her namesake flower into details such as the guest favors and paper goods. Guests were also encouraged to pick produce and flowers from the seating station for an interactive, take-home experience. Ginger and Pepper, the couple’s dogs, also made a charming appearance at the wedding ceremony, dressed impeccably in an adorable doggy tuxedo and floral collar. Highlighting family and cuisine, Kristie and Diarmuid’s wedding was a remarkable celebration that radiated love and joy.

CHRISTINA & JAY
Married & Celebrated: MILLWICK, LOS ANGELES
Date: OCTOBER 8, 2022
When Christina Lockett and Jay Hewitt toured Millwick in downtown Los Angeles, they knew they had found their wedding venue the moment they spotted the funky disco ball. During their three-year-long engagement, the couple had dreamed of a warm, tropical vibe that would put friends and family in the mood to celebrate and dance. And their wedding did just that, with guests grooving so enthusiastically to the music that Millwick’s disco ball came crashing to the floor, making their day truly unforgettable! For the reception, the couple aimed to re-create their Southeast Asia trip where Jay had proposed, by infusing the industrial-chic space with a cool, laid-back vibe that was nonetheless vibrant. Millwick’s endless greenery and Layered Vintage’s creative vision brought this urban jungle to life, achieving the couple’s dream. Vibrant coral, orange and pink flowers were whimsically arranged in a jaw-dropping installation that hung over the head table. The addition of spray-painted baby’s breath gave the design a unique edge by combining color and texture to create a cloud-like canopy. To ensure a casual ambiance, the couple opted for two long tables and a family-style meal. The evening ended with dancing—and even a little Christmas in October as the bride insisted on boogeying down to Mariah Carey’s seasonal hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”

AMY & EDDIE
Married & Celebrated: MERV GRIFFIN ESTATE, PALM SPRINGS
Date: MARCH 26, 2022
Leaving no detail overlooked for their special day, Amy Gowing and Edward Klumpp married the desert vibes of Palm Springs with a classic East Coast style, tying the knot at the stunning Merv Griffin Estate. The couple, both dressed in classic white wedding attire, made a chic statement against the vibrant color palette of sherbet and sunset hues. Guests were greeted with welcome totes filled with Amy’s and Eddie’s personal favorite items, which included Mountain Sweet Berry Farm chips from New York’s Union Square Greenmarket and homemade cactus-shaped cookies from Amy’s mother. Amy and Edward exchanged vows outdoors beneath towering palm trees and with the gorgeous Santa Rosa Mountains in the distance. Abundant florals lined the aisle, and a curved ceremony setting had been designed to look as if the flowers were sprouting from the lawn. To honor Amy’s grandmother, pussy willows, which were her favorite flora, were included in the arrangements. The reception was awash in shades of coral, orange, peach and cream, perfectly complemented by potted cactuses and rattan-back chairs. The floral designs were the stars of the event, especially the arrangement hanging above the 34-person head table. It featured velvet and rattan lanterns draped with greenery and Layered Vintage’s signature flower “chains.” Later in the evening, guests took a break from the dance floor to recharge at the espresso martini station. “Our favorite photo was captured, unbeknownst to either of us, while dancing with espresso martinis in hand,” says Amy. “Every time we see the photo, we are transported back!”

Married & Celebrated: ROSEWOOD MIRAMAR BEACH
Date: OCTOBER 1, 2022
With friends and family at their side, RaeAnn Bussola and Tony Thompson wed on the great lawn of Rosewood Miramar Beach, overlooking Montecito’s astonishing ocean views. Their wedding design was inspired by the natural beauty of California and filled with timeless romance. The ceremony included intimate touches, such as the officiant being a friend of the groom and endearing readings from two of the bride’s closest friends. The couple married atop a raised stage decorated with a plenitude of white florals. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and sushi as the sun sank into the ocean. The celebration then moved indoors to the capacious ballroom, where floor-to-ceiling curtains gracefully draped the walls and dazzling chandeliers cast a warm glow. Guests enjoyed dancing to a band performing live and eventually made their way to a designated lounge where an afterhours DJ awaited, and they continued to dance the night away!

Married: SAN FRANCISCO CITY HALL
Celebrated: ART ATTACK SF
Date: APRIL 1, 2022
Drew Tuma and Joey Hersh’s wedding was all about creating unforgettable memories with their loved ones, and it succeeded through flowing drinks, contagious laughter and tireless dancing. The couple exchanged vows at the majestic San Francisco City Hall, with its magnificent marble architecture and grand staircases. Clad in matching black-and-charcoal suits and sporting unique hellebore boutonnieres, Joey and Drew were joined in marriage in an intimate ceremony. After, the highly anticipated reception kicked off at Art Attack SF, in the heart of the newlyweds’ favorite neighborhood, the Castro. The gallery provided the ideal canvas for the celebration, with its spacious white walls and sleek cement floors transformed into a mid-century modern space with florals and details that had a cool, organic twist with coral accents. The stylish party included personalized touches, such as a neon sign displaying the couple’s names nestled into a custom greenery-adorned wall. However, the true centerpiece of the reception was an incredible 12-tiered croquembouche. The towering dessert, made to feed 125 people, offered two different profiteroles: the classic Bavarian cream–filled version and a hazelnut-cream-filled variation coated in a glass-like caramel shell. Drew and Joey’s dream of a lively celebration filled with dancing, laughter and a healthy dose of Rihanna’s music came to fruition without missing a beat.

Married & Celebrated: MONTECITO CLUB
Date: AUGUST 18, 2022
Lacie Wilson and Quinn Macnab’s wedding took full advantage of the breathtaking scenery at Montecito Club, tucked next to the stunning Santa Ynez mountains. The couple’s intimate day was filled with personal touches and good eats. The bride envisioned a classic white wedding accented with touches of green and gold. Burlap & Bordeaux delivered a floral-filled design, which was introduced at the ceremony with a striking leafy-green arch filled with white roses and abundant blooms lining the aisle. Cocktail hour kicked off in style with a wall of Aperol spritz cocktails adorned with colorful freeze-dried flowers and personalized gold charms. During the reception, guests danced to a hybrid blend of a DJ and a musician performing live, which created a unique interactive experience. Additional entertainment was provided by a photo booth for taking black-and-white photos, a Polaroid guest book and a shot-ski station for a bit of college nostalgia. Late-night bites included wagyu sliders and mini truffle-accented grilled cheese sandwiches as the celebration carried on into the night. For a personal touch, Lacie and Quinn placed handwritten notes under the seat of each guest. The thoughtful gesture brought a special warmth to the night and gave the couple a chance to share their appreciation and love for everyone who attended their celebration.

JOANNE & DARYLL
Married & Celebrated: WALDORF ASTORIA MONARCH BEACH
Date: OCTOBER 1, 2022
Joanne Patalot and Daryll Cortes’ love story began in eighth grade when they attended Most Holy Trinity School in San Jose. After dating for a few months, they drifted apart and went on to high school and college. Eight years later, Joanne and Daryll reunited after connecting on Facebook. The two share a passion for all things Disney, so when their dream to marry at Disneyland didn’t happen, Dee Lee Designs transformed the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach into their very own fairy tale. In the grand ballroom, Nisie’s Enchanted Florist created a ceiling of breathtaking hanging florals composed of lush roses and orchids; the effect brought Joanne to tears when she saw it. “When I opened my eyes, my jaw dropped, and it felt like time stood still,” said Joanne. “All that mattered at that moment was Daryll and I, and the magic that surrounded us.” Special touches included a wedding cake with a Mickey Mouse hidden within, an exquisite Champagne tower and late-night snacks to keep their guests fueled on the dance floor.

IQRA & ALEX
Married & Celebrated: THE GARDEN AT REDBIRD, LOS ANGELES
Date: JANUARY 11, 2022
Love, laughter and a sprinkle of quirkiness marked Iqra Sheikh and Alex Resurreccion’s wedding, an intimate celebration infused with personal, humorous touches that created an unforgettable day. The couple’s garden-inspired wedding was perfectly set at Redbird LA, where the venue’s endless greenery and outdoor charm effortlessly complemented the event’s emerald, white and gold color palette. The triangle, which is the groom’s favorite shape, held special significance for the occasion and were thoughtfully incorporated into elements such as the invitations and guest favors. The altar arch, a triangle comprising the couple’s first initials, had dual meaning: It was designed to form both an “A” for Alex and an “I” for Iqra, signifying the couple’s union. In addition, each side of the triangle symbolized the unique wedding date, 1/11, making it a memorable day for anniversaries to come. Floral arrangements were intentionally minimal, with eucalyptus leaves as the focus to pay homage to the couple’s first home together, which had two large eucalyptus trees in the front yard. Following the ceremony, guests located their seats on a chart featuring priceless Polaroid snaps of the couple. To commemorate when they first met, at work, Iqra and Alex offered guests the opportunity to have professional headshots taken by the photographer, as a gag favor for their LinkedIn profiles. Further entertainment included a DJ and endless dancing. As the reception came to a close, a party bus chauffeured guests to the couple’s home to continue the celebration with tacos and tequila shots. As the sun set, another bus arrived to transport the wedding party to the airport, where they caught a red-eye and embarked on a journey to Mexico to revel in its vibrant culture and celebrate on its stunning beaches.

ERIN & JACK
Married & Celebrated: THE LAUTNER COMPOUND
Date: MARCH 12, 2022
With a shared affinity for desert beauty and a deep connection to California, Erin Morgan and Jack Knauer chose the stunning Lautner Compound to host their wedding. The couple values authenticity and fun above all else; they wanted their day to feel personal to their guests, and most importantly, to themselves. To ensure maximum time on the dance floor, Erin and Jack broke from tradition with a short ceremony and skipped the cutting of the cake. The design embraced a modern desert aesthetic with elements of the tropics to create a welcoming atmosphere. Drawn from the couple’s personal styles, the color palette was carefully curated to reflect their distinct personalities. Bold shades of dark green, vibrant pops of gold and soft pink touches created a lively ambiance in the Palm Springs desert. To stay true to their vision, Erin, Jack and their wedding party created many design elements themselves. With help from the bridesmaids and the groom’s mother, who is a skilled succulent gardener, they crafted unique floral centerpieces that perfectly embodied the tropical/desert aesthetic. The mix of succulents and colorful florals blended seamlessly, perfectly executing the couple’s dream. Honoring Erin’s late mother was a top priority for their special day—to pay tribute to her, the couple collected heart-shaped rocks from Puget Sound beaches and offered them to guests as keepsakes and reminders of the bride’s beloved mother. This sentimental touch was inspired by Erin’s childhood memories of walking on the beach and finding uniquely shaped rocks with her mother. Erin and Jack’s wedding was a truly authentic celebration, filled with gratitude and appreciation for their union and loved ones.

CHRISTINA & LEE
Married & Celebrated: MILLWICK
Date: OCTOBER 7, 2022
Although both Christina Yi and Lee Harder grew up in the South—Christina is from Tennessee, and Lee is from Georgia—they loved the idea of tying the knot in LA, the city they now call home. “We thought it would be a fun ‘destination wedding’ for our friends and family if we celebrated our marriage where we were living,” says Christina. Though married in a civil ceremony in 2021, the couple thought it was important to also have an intimate celebration with loved ones. For a venue, they chose Millwick, which is located in Los Angeles’ Arts District, one of their favorite areas in the city. “It’s a pretty magical feeling when you walk into the venue, because you wouldn’t expect it to be there,” says Christina. The couple was drawn to Millwick’s blend of “industrial, tropical and artsy.” Their vision of an autumn-hued boho-style wedding was brought to life by Kate Flowers LA, which artfully created arrangements in hues of soft cream, rich brown and delicate pink, accentuated by dried florals and abundant pampas grass. During the ceremony, the couple placed wooden mandarin ducks on the ceremonial table; the ducks are a traditional Korean wedding gift that symbolizes a lifelong bond between devoted partners. The couple also chose to tie a fisherman’s knot as part of their union ceremony, as an homage to Lee’s Eagle Scout experience. Because the couple shares a deep appreciation for cuisine, food was a highlight of their wedding. In a bow to the bride’s Korean heritage, they served japchae, a traditional Korean noodle dish, for dinner. In Korean culture, serving noodles at a wedding is considered a good omen, symbolizing longevity. For a late-night snack, Christina and Lee delighted their guests with LA’s famous Kogi BBQ food truck, which serves an iconic fusion of Korean flavors and California tacos. To top it off, they treated their guests to one of their personal dessert favorites: Randy’s Donuts.
