UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN

Brimming with Old World charm and modern touches, Carol Banh Keiner of The Blushing Details and Vanessa Mestas of XO and Fetti gathered inspiration from Italian bistros, the cobblestone streets of Verona and Shakespeare’s romance literature. The dreamy scene is perched among sweeping mountain and ocean views at Malibu Solstice Vineyards and is reminiscent of a vineyard wedding on the Amalfi Coast. From the Tuscan sunset palette to the organic floral design and bistro chairs, every detail makes you want to grab your passport and head for Europe. A prominent feature of the design is the bountiful grazing station, replete with a variety of foods and desserts that lend different textures and pops of color to the table. In keeping with the classic yet intimate feel of the design, cascading arrangements and mismatched silverware have been placed on the reception table to create the vibe of an Old World dinner party. The gorgeous invitation suite is a combination of handworked details, graceful calligraphy and a scrolling floral design, a motif that is echoed on the all-white cake. Every component of this elegant scheme inspires couples with a love of travel to infuse the things they love—both old and new—into their wedding day.

BACKYARD BEAUTY

Tying the knot at home is becoming more common in the wake of the pandemic as couples are choosing to keep their wedding intimate. Anita Casano Kanellis of AK Brides (@akbrides) took Sangeeta and Greg Williams’ grand 200-person wedding at a garden space and reenvisioned it as a small gathering at their apartment. “They originally were having a wedding ceremony at a nursery outdoors, with lots of organic and natural elements surrounding them,” says Kanellis. “There was greenery growing on the rooftops in the pavilion, and we were bringing in rugs and more greenery, with florals and a macrame backdrop at the altar.” Kanellis and her team remained true to the original plan, but deftly scaled it back for the couple’s home. They draped greenery-adorned macrame around the doorway and brought in rugs, candles, metal lanterns and a plethora of plants to create a nursery-like ambiance. With wreaths around their necks in honor of the bride’s Indian culture, Sangeeta and Greg said their vows in front of their guests, who were seated below the balcony. “The parents of both the bride and groom as well as other close family members and friends gave toasts and speeches that were so heartfelt, they brought every person within listening distance to tears (including me!),” says Kanellis. “The bride and groom were embraced in love that day, and the family did a wonderful job of making the day special.”

Today’s weddings aren’t complete without providing standout backdrops for guests’ selfies. Wheat and Honey Events designed a photoworthy Instagram spot at Madison and Quentyn Luna’s wedding by positioning a stunning column of greenery and white flowers on each side of an adorable “Capture the Love” sign, which was done in white cursive lettering against a black background. Nestled in a corner of their reception venue, the backdrop gave guests the perfect setup for commemorating Madison and Quentyn’s wedding with selfies. — Emily Sweet

FOREVER IN BLOOM

Air-drying or pressing florals in books have long been the best options for preserving a wedding bouquet—until now. Ever After Bouquet is the brainchild of Temecula-based artist Crystal Balcom, who turned her love of preserving flowers into a beautiful business. “I believe we all have an emotional tie with florals, whether it be a name, an occasion or a memory...flowers tell a story,” says Balcom of her love for preserving memories in the form of florals. In her studio, she transforms bouquets into keepsakes, such as paperweights, candleholders, bookends and even art pieces. Her preservation technique entails encasing the flowers in resin, ensuring that blooms retain their best color and shape; however, the process does require that the botanicals are shipped within 24–48 hours. The ordering process is simple: Check Ever After’s online calendar to save your spot, create an account or bridal registry and pick your forever piece. Balcom works directly with each client to ensure that the client’s vision and style are reflected in the final product. Ever After Bouquet is the perfect way to keep the memories of your wedding day fresh in your mind.

MODERN MOONSHINE

Sweetwater Cocktails (@sweetwatercocktails), a new spinoff from the culinary masterminds at the Très L.A. Group (@treslagroup), brings an interesting twist to libations at parties throughout Southern California. With decidedly vintage tastes, Sweetwater finds its roots in the Prohibitionera style of merriment. Sweetie was the original nickname of the founders’ Ford AA truck, which once belonged to the notorious racketeer, bookie and bootlegger Charlie Crawford, and transported alcohol distilled in Sweetwater, Arizona, during Prohibition. These days, the word Sweetwater has less scandalous connotations, but it still stirs up just as much fun as it once did. Among its signature cocktails is the namesake Sweetwater, featuring tequila, St-Germain, lemon and rosemary. The Floral Fizz is a concoction of chamomile- and elderflowerinfused vodka with lemon, Thai chile and eucalyptus bitters. And if you’re feeling especially adventurous, there’s the Medellín, which is a blend of mezcal, crème de cacao, Colombian coffee and Mexican chocolate bitters, all topped off with an orange peel flambé. Sweetie, the cocktail truck, is also available to make an appearance as a mobile bar to inject some character and history into your reception or cocktail hour.

PRODUCE, PLEASE!

THE MOST MEMORABLE WEDDINGS PLACE A SPOTLIGHT ON THE UNIQUE STORIES OF THE BRIDE AND GROOM . For Ashley and Cody Capurro, this meant leaning into their roles in the California produce industry. A fourth-generation farmer whose family has grown vegetables throughout the Golden State, Cody spent his formative years atop tractors with his grandfather and in his dad’s sales office. Ashley currently works at Driscoll’s selling berries. Planner Nena Johansen of Vino Fiore Events beautifully translated the couple’s affinity for agriculture into romantic tabletops. To create an elevated dinner party atmosphere, Johansen incorporated sherbet-hued roses and complementary foliage in white ceramic vases atop rustic tables with burlap linens. Simple silver cutlery bookended ebony plates, on top of which rested menus printed on gray string-and-washer envelopes. Blush-colored votive candles were set in glass cylinders, while vegetables got the calligraphy treatment to transform them into table number signs. Provided by Cody’s uncle, who owns Watsonville Coast Produce, oranges, leeks, asparagus and a number of other fresh fruits and vegetables were placed throughout the setting in clever acknowledgement of the couple’s backgrounds. At the end of the night, guests were given farmers market baskets for collecting their own bounties to take home and enjoy.

Tranquility and simplicity are the goals of the design which is enhanced by navy, blush and muted gold decor, creating a perfect canvas for weddings and events. RICH HISTORIES AND MODERN STYLES INTERSECT IN THESE RECENTLY RENOVATED AND NEWLY OPENED SPACES.

stunning views and outdoor spaces. Throughout its history, the inn has served a variety of purposes, including as a lookout during World War II and a hideaway for Hollywood celebrities. The inn’s new design pays homage to that rich and interesting history. Known for its seasonally derived menus, creativity and high quality of service, Made by Meg offers guests delicious and modern food options, and features more than 1,500 dishes. Walker says, “Our plan is to continue La Venta’s long legacy of hosting timeless and intimate seaside ceremonies, and we are more than ready to write our chapter in its history book.”

MAR MONTE HOTEL

Santa Barbara’s historic Mar Monte Hotel (@marmontehotel) is an ideal spot for couples who dream of tying the knot with their toes in the sand. Nicely situated across the street from East Beach, the Mar Monte recently underwent a multimillion dollar renovation. In this reimagining of the 1930s hotel Vista Mar Monte, contemporary style draws inspiration from Santa Barbara. Throughout the 3 acres of Spanish-influenced property, design choices mirror the rise and fall of tides, as seen in the seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. Muted blues and grays enhance the hotel’s Spanish-style architectural elements, such as the exposed beam ceilings and arches. The hotel boasts more than 10,000 square feet of oceanfront event space, so there’s something for every taste and any number of guests. Most couples choose to have their ceremonies on the beach and return to the hotel to host their receptions in one of the well-appointed and newly renovated ballrooms. The variety of beautiful event spaces ranges from the intimate Fireside Room, which features hardwood floors and a wood-burning fireplace, to the vast Pacific Ballroom, with its entire wall of ocean-facing windows. The Terrace Ballroom, located in the Santa Maria building, includes a wraparound terrace for smooth indoor-outdoor flow—the building, which includes 37 guestrooms is also available as a buyout. Guests can fill their off-wedding time by grabbing one of the complimentary bikes for a cruise around Santa Barbara, including the nearby Funk Zone which boasts wineries, breweries and shops. A private tasting at the nearby Paradise Springs Winery is a great option for a guest outing or welcome party with the knowledgeable Stephen leading the way.

Setting a wedding at a museum provides a unique opportunity to incorporate the art and architecture of the space into the celebration’s design. At the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, designer Jesse Tombs paid homage to the museum’s collection and architecture with each design choice, from a braided grass centerpiece to minimal floral arrangements. “We really wanted to showcase as many locations around the property as possible and embrace each location with a different look and tone based on the environment and feeling of the surrounding artwork,” says Tombs.

At the Living Wall breezeway location, Studio Mondine and Tombs incorporated the Living Wall into their design by creating a one-of-a-kind braided grass centerpiece. The muted arrangement graces a table set with seagrass-wrapped glasses, wooden silverware, taupe linen napkins and white crimped dishes. The team explored new concepts when designing the florals, coming up with a table motif that harmonizes with its surroundings.

“We didn’t want the table setting to distract from or compete with the graphic and colorful Alexander Calder Big Crinkly sculpture,” says Tombs.

Contemplating the museum’s Chronicles of San Francisco mural by JR in the Roberts Family Gallery, Tombs and her team were inspired by the story of the art installation. “With such a huge presence in the space, with its rich story and powerful message as well as moving video—it was a feat to behold,” says Tombs. A clear glass table allows the work of art to be the focal point, with crystal candlesticks placed among the delicate arrangement of vines by Studio Mondine. Tombs partnered with Yonder Design’s Julie Neubauer to create the menus, which feature an X-ray image of florals to show “transparency and shed light on all the movement and beauty in the gallery.” The Oscar de la Renta gown from the Jin Wang boutique also embraces this concept with its sheer skirt and lace bodice.

The focus is on luxurious and timeless décor to complement the beauty of The Langham’s grounds. Floral extravagance and glamourous décor choices convey a sense of opulence.

Dramatic centerpieces are at the center of this design. A blend of various white flowers, including orchids and roses, brings a lush texture to the arrangements, with pale pink roses adding a splash of color.

TABLETOP

Metallic gold is a perfect complement to the white décor with ethereal florals providing a beautiful foil to the chargers and silverware. A mirrored table serves as a modern element, bringing contrast to the richness spread on top of it. Cut-glass water goblets enhance the luxury, and elegant white menu cards embellish each place setting.

The use of subtle colors aims the spotlight on the variety of textures and patterns throughout the design, and the backdrop lends a sense of the ethereal to the setting. To reflect the design’s musical inspiration, unusual elements such as vintage binoculars, ukuleles and sheet music were incorporated into the décor.

The softly whimsical florals are a blend of white and green blooms. Greenery and florals decorate the Spanish-inspired iron gazebo, the site of the ceremony, and the tabletop florals deepen the ethereal atmosphere.

Perched in the Santa Ynez Mountains, which frame Santa Barbara, this celebration’s setting was inspired by Belmond El Encanto’s natural beauty and sweeping views. Deep wine hues enhance the already rich ambiance of the hotel’s red brick pathways and strike a contrast against the abundant greenery that fills the lush grounds.

Rust and terra-cotta tones from Belmond’s grounds are woven throughout the floral design, including an asymmetrical arch arrangement of ranunculus, garden roses and ferns. Draping lends romance and softness.

Emulating the rich color of merlot, this smart invitation suite shines with touches of deep maroon and is finished with dainty twine and an urn wax seal.

An intimate rectangular table with wishbone chairs greets guests with a warm yet modern welcome. The décor features tapered candles in hurricane glasses and low floral arrangements, encouraging conversation and sharing.

This tabletop setting was created using a mix of materials, including stone dinnerware, white inlay flatware, patterned linens and rattan glassware, to achieve a classic meets coastal place setting. Monogrammed leather coasters by Isidore and Augustine invite each guest to their seat.

After a year of uncertainty, hardship and struggle, Michelle and Brett Vapnek wanted to create a magical evening that was bold, beautiful and unforgettable. To create this memorable event, Rob Pausmith of Très LA Group, together with Poppy Design Co., drew inspiration from Brett’s proposal, which was written on agate and read, “You are exactly where you are supposed to be.” The team embraced this mindset and created a design that would allow the guests to experience different moods throughout the night. The ceremony embodied romance with its palette of muted grays, purples and blues. A performing string quartet enhanced the romance. Michelle and Brett grew up practicing different religions, so they decided to blend their experiences into one event that celebrated them as both individuals and a couple. After the cocktail hour, guests moved to the next experience through a tunnel of wisteria, which was accentuated by an ombre floral display that began with the ceremony’s muted hues and led to the dramatic reception reveal: a feast of color filled with blue, purple, pink and green flowers. Under thousands of twinkle lights, guests dined at Tuscan-style tables, which featured intricate arrangements containing Michelle’s favorite dyed orchids. In a nod to Brett’s profession working in the cannabis industry, a Moroccan lounge was created for guests to kick back and enjoy the night. Jasmine Rae Cakes took Michelle’s love for lotus flowers and created a showstopper that tasted as beautiful as it looked. The couple were the last two people at their wedding and they ended the night in perfect fashion: dancing to their song, James Bay’s “Wild Love.”

For Rachel Mann and Adam Taylor, breaking away from tradition and choosing a rock ’n’ roll vibe set their special day apart. From their love of the color black to their inspiration taken from disco balls, the duo was focused on making their event unique. Rachel wowed in a modern off-the-shoulder, black-and-white gown from Rue De Seine, which was a perfect complement to Adam’s all-black tuxedo. Bridesmaids’ sequined dresses matched Rachel and Adam’s vision, and groomsmen in all black followed suit. The color palette for the event ranged from toffee to dusty blue, with a variety of hues highlighted throughout the décor. Naturally, Rachel, a florist who owns Joy of Bloom Florals, took the reins on the floral design and created all the bouquets and centerpieces, along with three floating floral installations. She opted for seasonal flowers and explored bold color combinations to bring her vision to life. Balancing sweet peas, garden roses, butterfly ranunculus, tulips and other spring florals with more unusual elements such as sago palms, blue- and peach-dyed phalaenopsis orchids and bleached painted palms tied the entire floral landscape together seamlessly. The couple’s custom-made arch featured disco balls and blooms side by side, and at the reception, disco balls were incorporated into a stunning lighting display. Guests were greeted with miniature disco balls and custom sweatshirts, which came in handy when it got cooler in the evening. “We wanted the day to represent our personal style and for all our guests to feel this through the design,” says Rachel. “I think we accomplished just that.”

Among the citrus and avocado orchards at Quail Ranch, Ivy Henderson and Scott Sandler threw a classically Californian wedding to celebrate with their nearest and dearest. A fifth-generation Golden State local, Ivy scoured Ventura County for the most quintessentially West Coast location, ultimately selecting Quail Ranch for its Spanish architecture, towering oaks and lush gardens. The couple opted to keep their design clean and elegant, allowing the natural beauty of the landscape to shine. Planner Brooke Heflin of Burlap & Bordeaux brought their vision to life, creating a black-tie garden-party atmosphere with green and white florals, clean white linens and black Chiavari chairs. White garden roses, imported roses, ranunculus, spray roses, Italian ruscus, hydrangea and magnolia greens were all sprinkled throughout the design. Ivy’s favorite touch was the white aisle, which was brought in especially for them and lined with stunning blooms that transformed the ceremony space. Scott’s Jewish traditions merged with Ivy’s Scottish heritage, with the playing of bagpipes for the recessional and the dancing of the horah at the reception. Thanks to live tunes from Ben Mallare Entertainment, the sense of celebration continued as Ivy and Scott danced the night away, ready to begin the rest of their lives together.

Shawni McDonald and Cash Myricks’ opulent wedding at the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach was the embodiment of luxury and elegance. Tech mogul Cash met Shawni through work, and Cash eventually proposed during a Valentine’s Day getaway in Malibu. For their wedding day, the couple opted for a summertime black-tie event, complete with extravagant florals and décor. The color palette played off nature’s neutral tones, featuring gold, white, cream and forest green. Shawni wowed in her Eve of Milady gown, an off-the-shoulder dress with dramatic lace detailing and a bold train. Her bouquet brought stunning cream-colored roses together with bedazzling elements. In a gesture of remembrance, seats were reserved for important family members and friends who had passed away. For an element of fun, a colored wristband system allowed guests to select their comfort level with social distancing, with choices ranging from “Celebrating like it’s 2019” to “2020 has me confused.”

Floating floral arrangements lined the aisle for the ceremony, giving the venue an ethereal feel. Ending their special day with a surprise, groom Cash presented Shawni with a brand-new Bentley.

Josh Khalili and Chris Dickie tied the knot in an elevated beachy celebration in La Jolla. The two met nearly eight years ago through online dating, and while neither of them expected the other to be “The One,” the doctor and television executive ended up being a perfect match. Josh and Chris most often can be found at the beach, which made Ville Sur Mer’s oceanside locale an ideal spot for their special day. The ceremony was officiated by one of the couple’s best friends, who led guests through a few meditative breaths before Josh and Chris read the vows they had written for each another. Their altar featured asymmetrical pillars of greenery and blue tones from larkspur, delphinium, nigella and blue thistle. Josh’s father passed away unexpectedly two months before the wedding, so the couple made sure his presence was still felt. A photo of him sat in a front row seat and Josh wore his father’s prayer shawl. The couple incorporated elements of Josh’s Jewish and Persian heritage and Chris’ Armenian background: each groom stomped on a glass during the ceremony, everyone danced the hora and baklava was featured on the menu. In lieu of a guest book, they opted for a surfboard that friends and family could sign, which also gave a nod to Ville Sur Mer’s collection of more than 300 surfboards. Each table at the reception was labeled with a different beach Josh and Chris have visited, spanning the globe from Iceland to New Zealand and beyond. As the sun set, the couple took a brief trip down to the rocks to bask in the moment, both of them wearing complementary blue suits that echoed the hues of the waves crashing behind them. After the cutting of the cake, guests took to the Balinese-style palapa that served as a dance area, shimmying away to Josh and Chris’ favorite songs as market lights dazzled overhead.

After meeting 10 years ago at Six Flags, Sheri Alzeerah and Sean Henry joyfully tied the knot in a vibrant and bold celebration at Lombardi House in Los Angeles. The couple’s main goal was to show their guests lots of joy, love and laughter—especially the last. True to their fun-loving personalities, they devised quirky details, such as randomly assigned table numbers, Diet Coke escort cards and unusual songs, including Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” The brightly hued wildflower floral arrangements were inspired by the movie “Midsommar,” a nod to the couple’s weekly Sunday horror-movie night. Sheri is proudly half Filipina and half Iranian, so guests were treated to a traditional sofreh aghd, an Iranian spread of items representing different parts of a healthy marriage. The couple also fed each other honey off the tips of their pinkies, an Iranian wedding tradition symbolizing sweetness in life. The groom put his artistic skills to work and designed all of the paper products, including the colorful table numbers, place cards, menus and programs. For the bride, one of the most memorable moments was the father-daughter dance to a piano arrangement her father composed when Sheri was born. “The song is called ‘Shahrzad,’ which is my full name,” says Sheri. “I don’t think there was a single dry eye in the crowd!”

Vivian Mehrabian and Anthony Grigorian celebrated their love with a festive, traditional Armenian wedding at the Taglyan Complex in Los Angeles. The couple first met while in middle school and have remained best friends ever since. Their special day began at 11 a.m. with an Armenian ceremony that lasted three hours, after which they headed into their reception. Vivian and Anthony wanted to combine their two styles and ended up with a sleek black and pink design that featured candles galore. The day was full of Armenian traditions, beginning with Anthony meeting Vivian at her parents’ home for their first look. Traditionally, the groom’s family brings three sinis, or gift baskets, to the bride—one with her shoes and bag, one with chocolate and cognac, and the last featuring lingerie hidden in a floral arrangement. Eddie Zaratsian was responsible for the jaw-dropping arrangements at the ceremony as well as the overall design, bringing Vivian and Anthony’s wildest dreams to life. Pink baby’s breath overwhelmed the space, covering the fronts of the dining tables and floating along the dance floor. “When we saw the restaurant, we were literally in shock because we had never seen a wedding done like this, and it felt so unique and special,” says Vivian. As the dance floor filled, guests tossed money in the air above the newlyweds, an Armenian tradition called shabash, meant to bring wealth, happiness and good fortune to a marriage that is sure to last a lifetime.

Aglow in front of an enchanting Maui sunset, Sarah Parizino and Russ Stein got engaged at the Grand Wailea. Russ secretly prepared a magical night at the hotel, which was Sarah’s special family vacation spot for most of her childhood. Due to the pandemic, the planning process for their big day was far from easy, but the couple was able to have the wedding of their dreams. Sarah took the traditional walk down the aisle through the historic and beautiful St. Francis of Assisi, surrounded by friends and family from all over the country. The reception venue in Indian Wells featured classic white with a hint of desert ambiance. Florals had a touch of a sand/taupe color, and the décor included traditional Italian gold plating and white linens. It was truly an unforgettable moment, just like something out of a movie.

Raven Bouregy and Collin Snyder’s intimate 20-person wedding was filled with elegance and meaningful touches for guests and the couple alike. Originally planning to elope, the couple decided to expand their nuptials at La Lomita Ranch to include close family and friends. Inspiration was taken from the stunning natural beauty of the working ranch, and the celebration featured a blend of natural and bohemian décor. Florals in muted, neutral tones and in minimalist arrangements enhanced the décor. Raven’s showstopping gown was custom-made by Ivana Čizmadija in Croatia and featured monstera lace and long, draping sleeves, perfectly suited to the Spanish architecture and blooming greenery of La Lomita Ranch. Bringing their long-standing love of Polaroid instant photos to their wedding day, Raven and Collin had a Polaroid picture station set up, resulting in dozens of joyous Polaroids from their guests. For the months preceding the wedding, Raven, her mother and mother-in-law found 30 antique and vintage goblets, each completely distinctive from the others. Guests were able to choose a goblet to use during the event and take home later as a keepsake. Tying in family traditions, Raven wore a Turkish gold medallion that had been passed down through the women in her family for more than a century.

Ashley Lawrence and Matt Nishanian found a hidden gem at Fazeli Cellars in Temecula for celebrating their wedding. After getting married last summer in the backyard of Ashley’s parents, the couple had to reschedule their official celebration date three times before landing on their first anniversary. Tying in past celebrations, the couple used the wedding of Ashley’s parents as an inspiration for their own day at Fazeli Cellars, a beautiful venue tucked into Temecula’s hills. Simple and chic florals in neutral tones paired with natural greenery decorated the ceremony and reception space. The couple exchanged their vows beneath a dramatic floral arch featuring white roses and foliage. The evening was made more meaningful by the attendance of Matt’s family, whose members traveled from out of state to be there. Ashley also was surprised and moved to find a cardboard cutout of her brother, who could not attend the wedding because he is in active military service. But the sweetest highlight for Ashley was dancing with her father, which brought back happy childhood memories.

Yancy and Connor kept their Anaheim wedding intimate, uncomplicated and joyful. The easygoing couple gave their vendors free rein to organize their traditional yet unstuffy celebration. Yancy and Connor first met in college, where they took classes together. But it was six years after graduation before Connor worked up the courage to ask Yancy out, and then a quick three years after that, they said, “I do.” To acknowledge her Mexican heritage, Yancy brought in a mariachi band during cocktail hour to liven up the atmosphere before the ceremony took place. The couple opted for a color palette of mauve and sandy tones, which was reflected in the bridesmaids’ dresses as well as in Falynn Thompson’s floral design. Yancy and her team of vendors proved that you don’t need to spend an arm and a leg to have a showstopping wedding. During the reception, guests had fun playing a trivia game, competing to see who knew Yancy and Connor best, and the dance floor was never vacant.

What began as a meeting between two neighbors ended up in marriage for Kendall Brumfield and Tim Menninger. Staying true to their Santa Barbara roots, the duo tied the knot at Belmond El Encanto, bringing special details to the entire event, from the first look to the last dance. Kendall stunned in her Muse by Berta gown, with its floral detailing along the bodice, and a Martina Liana veil to match. A natural color palette of mauve, dusty rose, gold and creamy neutrals complemented the natural flora of El Encanto. As a senior event planner for Ashley Chanel Events + Design, Kendall enjoyed being on the opposite side of the industry as a bride. The couple’s day was full of homages to Santa Barbara, from the gorgeous views of El Encanto to each table being named after a meaningful and iconic Santa Barbara street. One of the most touching moments was the private first look between Kendall and Tim, during which Kendall presented Tim with colorblindness correction glasses from EnChroma. Allowing him to experience the hues of the sky and natural beauty around him was a moment that stood out from the rest of the day. For the couple, it was also important to honor Kendall’s late father. Seats were reserved for him at both the ceremony and reception, plus a dance was dedicated to him, with Kendall, her father’s friends and her mother dancing together to “I’ll Be Missing You” by Puff Daddy. Kendall reflected, “Overall, the day was quite a dream for Tim and I.”

Grace Murk and Tyler Woods’ Tinder love story began when they both swiped right in July 2014 while living in their hometown of San Diego. After seven years of dating, the couple tied the knot at the beautiful Lomas Santa Fe Country Club in a classic wedding that included a modern twist. When it came time to plan the wedding, Grace opted for a setting that was at once minimalist, elegant and timeless. The look was expertly achieved by the team at Lomas Santa Fe with a neutral palette set off by flickering candlelight. Soft ocean blue accents set a graceful contrast to the white cake, guest tables and romantic arrangements of roses, peonies and ranunculus, also in shades of white. The sweetheart and head tables were adorned with gold tapered candles, and single blooms in small bud vases and Italian ruscus were placed throughout. The couple shared a beautiful night surrounded by their loved ones, finishing their night with Grace’s number-one karaoke song and a true rock classic, “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey.

Throw an engagement party.

Gather wedding inspiration. Start a Pinterest board. Search magazines and websites for ideas. Begin adding the names of vendors and their contact information into a master contact list.

6 TO 9 MONTHS BEFORE:

Select a caterer.

Choose a baker, schedule cake tastings. Order your gown and schedule fittings (remember to bring your shoes).

Shop for bridesmaid dresses.

Hire a florist.

Book a band/DJ.

Start researching honeymoon spots. Finalize the guest list.

Book a stationer (and calligrapher, if using one).

Mail save-the-date cards.

Purchase your shoes, headpiece, jewelry and lingerie for the big day.

Book hair and makeup artists for the big day.

It’s never too early to start planning. Follow these steps and you’ll be on your way to matrimonial bliss.

Reserve event necessities. Book portable toilets for outdoor events, extra chairs, linens, lighting and so on.

Start making a day-of timeline, determining what should happen when (speeches, first dance, etc).

Book a block of hotel rooms near the reception site for out-of-town guests. Register for gifts at two to three places. Start to keep track of favorite songs.

TO 6 MONTHS BEFORE:

Order all wedding stationery (invitations, envelopes, thank-you notes) and work out pricing for programs, menus and place cards, which will be printed closer to the date. Hire wedding-day transportation. Book flights and hotel reservations for your honeymoon.

Arrange the rehearsal dinner. Schedule any beauty treatments (brow-waxing, facials, teeth-whitening) that you’d like to have done before the wedding. Send a guest list to the host of your bridal shower.

Order passport, if necessary. Purchase wedding rings; order engraving. Remind mother and mother-in-law to start shopping for their dresses.

TO 4 MONTHS BEFORE:

Order the suits for the groom and groomsmen. Meet with the caterer or facility manager to discuss menus, wine selections, serving style, etc. Choose and order wedding favors and welcome baskets, if desired.

Order the wedding cake. Meet with your officiant to discuss your ceremony; invite loved ones to perform readings, if appropriate.

Choose songs for the ceremony and reception. Buy thank-you gifts for your attendants. Confirm group hotel rates for out-of-town guests.

Book your pre-wedding and wedding-night hotel.

Finalize your honeymoon plans. Send invitations to the calligrapher if you’re using one.

Plan your bachelorette party with your attendants.

Send a day-of timeline to your vendors so they’ll have ample time for tweaks and feedback.

Sign up for dance lessons, if desired.

1 TO 2 MONTHS BEFORE: Mail invitations. Do a hair and makeup run-through (with headpiece).

Meet with the caterer to finalize a menu. Send programs, menus and escort cards to the stationer to be printed (if not using a calligrapher).

Send your wedding announcement to local newspapers, if desired. Write thank-you notes as you receive gifts. Maintain a list of all presents received and thank-yous written.

2 TO 4 WEEKS BEFORE:

Plot the seating for the reception. Confirm times with all vendors. Have your final dress fitting. Write your rehearsal dinner toast. Compose your vows, if desired. Visit the salon for one last cut and color. Send escort cards and the seating chart to your calligrapher to fill in guests’ names and table numbers.

Enter RSVPs into a guest-list database, and call invitees who haven’t yet responded. Get your marriage license. If you’re changing your name, order several extra copies.

If changing your name, make arrangements with Social Security, Department of Motor Vehicles, credit card companies and your bank. Mail the rehearsal dinner invitations, if applicable.

Stock the bar using your final head count as a guide.

Send out as many final vendor payments as you can.

Provide addresses for drivers of transport vehicles.

Create a must-take “shot list” and discuss it with your photographer.

1 WEEK BEFORE:

Compile the fees that will be due on the wedding day.

Give the caterer a final head count.

Appoint a reliable pal to transport the cake knife, toasting glasses, etc. to and from the reception site.

Get final beauty treatments (facial, waxing, brow-shaping, etc.).

Pack for the honeymoon. Ask someone to bring your luggage to the reception if you’re leaving from there.

Give your honeymoon itinerary to a friend or family member in case of emergency. Pick up your dress or make arrangements for it to be fetched or delivered.

Arrange for the cake to be delivered to the reception venue.

Buy a guest book, if you choose to use one. Delegate small wedding-day tasks: someone to carry your things; someone to bustle your dress; someone to manage the gifts; someone to hand out tips; and so on.

Send a timeline to the bridal party, including every member’s contact information. Break in your shoes.

Assemble and distribute welcome baskets to out-of-town guests, if desired.

Pick up wedding rings, check engravings and sizes.

Remind men to pick up formalwear and shoes, and check them for fit.

If you don’t have a personal attendant, ask a friend to help you get dressed on the big day. Talk to head usher about any special seating arrangements.

Arrange for a light snack for the wedding party to eat while getting ready for the ceremony.

LAST 24 HOURS:

Help decorate the venue, if necessary. Have a manicure, pedicure and any other last-minute pampering treatments.

Distribute thank-you gifts to the wedding party, special attendants and parents.

Organize for a note or gift to be delivered to your fiancé on the wedding day.

Take a relaxing bath, go to bed early and start getting excited. You’re about to get married!
