“Paige’s entire attitude around us buying our forever home was completely in line with us getting married. Paige absolutely kept our hopes and dreams very high even when we were worried things weren’t working out as we wanted them to. Paige not only cheered us on through the house buying process, she continuously reaches out & checks in with how we are settling in in our neighborhood & loves to hear any and all wedding plans!”
After you say yes to the dress, let me help you say yes to your new home! I understand life is full of change & I love supporting my clients through it all. If you are looking to buy or sell a home - please reach out.
“We cannot thank Paige enough for helping us stay sane during this process….she was genuinely interested in helping us decide what was best for us, not just trying to gain another client or sell another home. Being able to lean on Paige for home advice during this time was a great outlet to get my mind off those long days/nights of wedding planning.”

In a space that seems more like New York or Paris, The Whim — which opened in Northeast Minneapolis in October — is a classic. Jennae & Elliot Saltzman, owners of The Whim, love the history of the 1920s industrial space, and the remodeled venue now features white brick walls soaring to 14-foot ceilings and numerous
picture windows to match the originals. With more than 10 years in the business, Jennae created The Whim to provide clients the creative freedom to build their vision. Amenities include two getting-ready suites for small gatherings, two mixed-use rooms and a fabulous patio to supplement the larger space, which can
comfortably accommodate 300-350 guests. (Another bonus: 80-plus parking spots.) The Whim has a stellar list of vendors to work with, but true to their clientfocused mission, they welcome any vendor you might choose. Minneapolis, thewhimevents.com
Grace Loves Lace is now open for brides and bridal parties in downtown Minneapolis. Brides can breathe easy wearing the Grace Loves Lace brand. These high standards also ensure that every Grace Loves Lace
bridal or bridesmaid gown is comfortable and breathable. The chic, serene showroom offers a personalized, stressfree experience and complimentary appointments with staff whose mission is for you and your bridal party to feel at home. Minneapolis, graceloveslace.com
When Leanne Larson started Paint My Wedding Day, her aim was to create works of art that capture the joy and love of your special moment. Larson and her team of two accomplished artists can capture your big day just as a photographer would in one-ofa-kind masterpieces. The artists arrive before the ceremony and paint throughout the day or evening; Larson particularly enjoys that guests can observe her as she paints, and she will often paint them in as they watch. After the ceremony and reception, Larson takes her work back to the studio to add the final touches that will make the painting a unique keepsake. Paint My Wedding Day can also turn the finished wedding painting into notecards or prints. paintmyweddingday.com
The Knights — mom Amy and daughters Madeline and Kalley — are the masterminds behind Urban Daisy Event Space. Their philosophy: provide hospitality and harmony for guests — or rather, members of the Urban Daisy family. The space, which opened last year, is designed for brides, grooms and families to cherish life’s special moments. With two signature suites where couples can get ready and a separate kids’ space, they aim to make your event stress-free. Retracting garage doors let in plenty of sunlight, while live trees, wall planters and the signature daisy
photo wall turn the venue into an indoor garden. The space also boasts a chic mezzanine, modern cocktail lounge and airy reception area. With 17-foot ceilings and pristine white walls, you can imbue the space with your own vision. Up to 275 guests can feel at home here, whether they’re lounging on the 20-foot sectional, trying out the swings in the cocktail area or sipping refreshments at the quartz-counter bar. Settle in at a cozy bed-and-breakfast or rustic inn during your wedding festivities and make it your own personal haven. Whether it’s a romantic night for two or an activity-packed weekend with the whole clan, you have plenty of options. Here are six.
Gather with your nearest and dearest at the Walsh House, which overlooks the 18th green on the Red Wing Golf Course. With four bedrooms, four baths, a full kitchen and dining area, along with three fireplaces and a spacious front porch, the restored Victorian mansion is just right for a night-before dinner, day-of preparations or opening gifts at a day-after brunch. It makes for a quaint setting for a small wedding (30 people or fewer), but most couples hold the ceremony and reception in the Skyroom, the newly renovated event space atop the golf course clubhouse. While Walsh House doesn’t offer meals, guests are welcome to prepare their own or use a list of preferred vendors who can provide for any occasion.
Spend the night in an enchanted treehouse! Experience the magic in Hope Glen Farm’s treehouse suite, a fourstory private getaway nestled in the mighty branches of a 150-year-old burr oak. The treehouse (a.k.a. “the lofty lodge”) is actually built around the tree to withstand any weather. The 1,200-square-foot retreat includes a full kitchen, four outdoor decks on four levels, two fireplaces, a jacuzzi — and a secret room to discover. At night, climb to the top of the 30-foot tower for stargazing (telescope provided), or go up during the day to take in the fantastic view. One of the two suites — the treehouse or the farm’s rustic-elegant Corn Crib Cottage — is included with a full day wedding rental. Both are also available for individual rental through Airbnb.
The rare opportunity to marry in such a unique venue in the Mississippi River Valley is a big draw, but the charming bedand-breakfast in the lovingly restored brick farmhouse is in a class by itself. The 1914 barn and the reception pavilion are available for weddings from May to October, but you can make your getaway to the B&B yearround. “With over 8,000 square feet, our B&B offers plenty of room for family and friends,” says Kirk Stensrud, who owns and operates the venue with his wife, Wendy. Your day on the farm begins with a threecourse breakfast; afterward, you can stroll down one of the paths winding through the 35 acres of spectacular woodlands, bluffs and fields. The bridal party can use the get-ready room on the third floor near the honeymoon suite for makeup and hair appointments. Each of the five suites has a private bath, featherbed, fireplace or gas stove, and two-person jacuzzi.
Innkeeper/owner Beth Koralia is a woman of many talents, from pastry chef to private jet pilot. She’s also an expert planner who can customize your wedding weekend from start to finish, whether it’s an intimate stay for the two lovebirds or activities for all ages and interests in the Duluth area. With six guest suites (including the separate carriage house), there’s plenty of room for a gracious gathering in the delightful 1904 mansion, built for mining and railroad baron William Olcott. The Blue Room is a popular choice because of its ample size and morning light, a plus for primping before the big event. The inn can also host weddings of up to 35 people (a leafy outdoor site is a favorite). And because Beth, a Duluth native, knows all the best vendors or can provide many services herself, you’ll have time to spend with your guests while she handles the details. Need a photographer? She knows several. Want dairy-free cupcakes? Beth can make them. Bonus: She makes your breakfast herself — or sometimes her dad will!
Bring the whole clan to Gathered Oaks for a country weekend. Innkeepers Andrew and Tessa Larson manage the central Minnesota venue, which features a welcoming farmhouse loaded with Scandinavian charm and historic detail and the stylish restored barn-turned-event center. The farmhouse is perfect for a rehearsal dinner, ceremony preparations, a gift-opening brunch or simply as a comfy gathering place for the wedding weekend. The farmhouse can accommodate 24 guests in eight private rooms, each with a bath, an attic suite with five beds (great for a family) and a gracious honeymoon suite. The property also features eight hotel-style rooms in renovated grain bins. Each room features a private bath, separate entrance, plenty of windows, a queen bed and a television; one room also includes a kitchenette and seating area. Andrew’s mom, Anne, handles the property’s accommodations for nonwedding bookings. While meals aren’t provided, the innkeepers have plenty of recommendations for everything from florists to caterers, as well as places to visit and activities to enjoy in the area.
Situated on 103 acres of rolling hills in southern Minnesota’s bluff country, Sacred Clay Country Inn will make your celebration of love even more memorable. Weddings are a weekend-long affair here (a two-night minimum stay is required), with full use of the custom-built inn’s nine luxurious guest rooms for you and yours (plus dozens more available for guests at Lanesboro’s many other charming accommodations).
Innkeeper Fred Kiel serves a generous breakfast, and he and his team are happy to host up to 40 dinner guests in the Gathering Room — though in warmer weather, it’s lovely to dine al fresco on the expansive veranda, where guests can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. You can also opt for a more formal five-course gourmet dinner for a smaller group. Guests who want a more casual vibe — perhaps an outdoor groom’s dinner — can use picnic tables by the fire pit. (Supply your own food and beverages.) Opportunities abound for activities, whether it’s golf at a nearby course, hiking or biking on one of the numerous trails in the area, kayaking or canoeing on the Root River or trying out your fly-fishing skills on the property’s trout stream. Because the barn isn’t climate controlled, weddings are most comfortable from late April through mid-October, but they can host weddings of up to 30 people any time of the year in the inn. *

LAUREN TORRES & RYAN SCHEIPP
MAY 15, 2021
Lauren and Ryan confronted more challenges before their wedding than many couples do in a lifetime. The two met through Bumble, and after three and a half years, Ryan popped the question; then life started to unravel. Lauren was diagnosed with severe mold poisoning that required hospitalization. They discovered that their dream venue had mold issues. A few months later, COVID hit.
Around the same time, doctors discovered a 2-inch tumor in Ryan’s spinal cord. Ryan was admitted for emergency surgery the day COVID restrictions went into place, expecting to be discharged in a week. Seven days turned into almost two months; when he went home, it was in a wheelchair. In the meantime, Lauren cancelled the purchase of their new home and moved back in with her parents to begin planning a house that was fully handicapped accessible.
During a weekend getaway, they heard about
this contest. Of more than 100 entries, the sponsors were most touched by Ryan and Lauren’s story, and this past spring, Ryan was able to walk down the aisle as the pair began their new life together.

MELISSA ROSEWALL AND BRIAN POLSKI
JUNE 5, 2021
Melissa and Brian met through a dating app in 2017. Brian specified he wanted to meet someone in a helping profession. Very sexy, Melissa thought; a master’s student in social work, she works with youth and adults with mental health issues. Brian is a lieutenant with the Columbia Heights Fire Department and a health and safety specialist for Amazon, and he had been spending all his free time caring for his mother, Leann, who had terminal cancer. His work ethic and calm, positive attitude only made Melissa love him more.
The couple canceled their July 2020 wedding because of COVID, then Leann died the following September before she could see her son marry. Melissa entered the giveaway because “my wonderful fiancé is worthy of something special” and to celebrate the community that has supported them. *

Many couples put their wedding plans on hold or scaled back their original plan after COVID-19 hit. Now, they’re making up for it, throwing big post-nuptial celebrations and even “second” weddings. Here’s a look at recent trends.
Emily and Matthew first held a casual backyard ceremony attended only by close family and friends. Later, they celebrated in high style at the Machine Shop. The couple chose Lasting Impressions Weddings to organize each event.
FO R MONTHS, MAYBE YEARS, YOU’D BEEN PLANNING THE WEDDING OF YOUR DREAMS. Then 2020 swept in with a deadly virus, and everything shut down. That big wedding had to be postponed. Maybe, like some couples, you said, “We just want to be married,” so you went down to City Hall, or held a micro-wedding with 10 of your nearest and dearest. Or maybe you went the Zoom route, and friends and family watched you wed via video.
Now, even though you’re legally married, you still long for your big day. Is it finally time to have a party?
With 2.5 million weddings anticipated this year — the most since 1984 — the wedding scene will be busy, so start planning now. Some couples have already decided to wait until 2023 to throw their grand fête.
Wedding planner Sarah Trotter of Lasting Impressions Weddings says she saw a lot of first weddings in 2021, many of which were originally scheduled for 2020. Until last June, she says, “there was nothing, nothing, nothing, and then it was crazy!”
She’s also seen plenty of “second” weddings — another, bigger event for couples who had a minimalist first wedding. “People were really ready to celebrate,” she says. “A lot of those who did a second party already had it planned. They’d prepaid for most of it and wanted to keep it the same because they already had it contracted.”
Second weddings have “leaned a bit more casual,” says Laine Palm of Laine Palm Planning + Design, but have also tended to be extended, weekend-long events. “There’ll be the rehearsal dinner the night before, welcome drinks, the wedding day and a brunch the day after,” she says.
Faith Folayan of This Love Weddings planned a mix of second weddings in 2021.
“There were those couples who originally wanted that elaborate dream wedding but couldn’t afford it then,” she says. Once they could spring for it, they wanted to pull out all the stops. “For the guests who could attend, the couple wanted to make it special so it would be worth their while. They found ways for those guests to really enjoy the whole experience,” such as special entertainment and party favors.
However, COVID still cast a shadow. Even big celebrations were downsized — for example, from 200 guests to 120, says Trotter — which has had its advantages: “The event was more intimate, where the couple could really interact with all the guests.” The guests benefited too. The couples were still spending the same amount, but on fewer people, allowing more luxury touches such as an open bar, better transportation, more décor — “they added more fun stuff,” she says.
Newlyweds Leslie and Kevin Huang knew from the start that they wanted a very small, immediatefamily-only first wedding and a bigger celebration later. Married in a sweet, simple ceremony at PAIKKA in June 2020, they waited 13 months after
Leslie and Kevin knew they’d have their big wedding someday, but chose not to put off their marriage because of COVID-19. They exchanged vows at a very small ceremony at PAIKKA in St. Paul with family members only. Thirteen months later, they held their dream wedding at Pinewood Weddings & Events.
Laine Palm Planning + Design coordinated both.
the first wedding to throw the big party. “We were definitely still feeling concerned about our guests’ health, so we actually cut our guest list to almost half of our original list,” Leslie Huang says. “And a lot of our out-of-state and out-of-country family and friends weren’t able to make it anyway, due to COVID.”
For wedding 2.0, the couple followed their original plans and had an outdoor ceremony at Pinewood Weddings & Events in Cambridge — but this time with guests, attendants, a walk down the aisle and a renewal of their vows, with a reception following.
The options for this event are wide open, whether it’s a formal wedding ceremony, reception only, first-anniversary party or a sequel.
And you don’t have to do it all yourself. You’ll get the biggest bang for your buck with the help of a good planner who has seen weddings of all sizes and styles in the past year and can help you create the event that’s just right for you. A planner will help you locate and reserve venues, manage vendor relationships, iron out details and help you avoid potential pitfalls on the day-of so you can enjoy your long-awaited gathering.
As you start planning, the first thing to do, says Folayan, is “rehash the budget. Think about the amount you spent so far, if you put down a deposit and what the new budget should be.” That can help you narrow down the kind of party you choose.
Next, pick a date. Many couples’ first choice is the same date as their “first” wedding, for an anniversary party or vow renewal. But keep in mind there could be another date you can make just as memorable.
“Be flexible,” Folayan advises. Because there’s a backlog of couples waiting to wed, venue space and time will remain at a premium. “Think of a weekday wedding as an option,” she says.
Likewise, be flexible about where. With 50 percent of weddings scheduled for 2020 pushed to 2021, there will still be spillover into 2022 — so
once you decide on the kind of event you want, start planning the details.
Should you go all-out and send invitations? Again, it’s a matter of choice, but given the uncertain times, a lighthearted invitation advising guests to save the date but stay tuned could be your best bet. An email update closer to the date could offer further details and build excitement.
Folayan also suggests deciding what, if any, elements you’ll take from your first wedding to the second. “How formal is it going to be? What will you do away with or incorporate into the second wedding?”
Planners agree: Turn out in the wedding gown you so lovingly chose — whether or not you’ve already worn it once.
“A lot of brides didn’t even get to wear their wedding gown the first time they were married,” Trotter says. “Some didn’t get it in time. Or they wanted to save it for the big wedding.”
Huang fell into that category. “I bought a dress online for our first wedding since I wanted to save my original dress and veil for the bigger wedding.”
Says Folayan, “The wedding dress is very much a part of the celebration. No one is letting go of the dress!” Some brides choose to have two, she noted, “one for the ceremony, one for the party, depending on how much dancing they’re going to do.”
Food and drink are always an important element of any party, but again, given pandemic concerns, safety measures are crucial. “Food safety for both the catering team and the guests is of utmost importance,” says Palm. “I have been doing a few more buffets [in 2021] than usual. Each one had servers, but in general we are doing more plated meals overall.”
Trotter says she’s seeing many fewer family-style meals and more plated meals. And “everything got quite a bit cuter,” she says. “Caterers have been doing a great job making individual portions, whether appetizers or desserts, look really inviting.” Self-serve dessert tables, food stations or candy bars tend to encourage close contact, so you might consider forgoing those, just as a precaution.
And yes, wedding cake is still being served, but it’s more likely to be a smaller cake for the couple to cut and take home, with guests served individual desserts.
COVID in some form is unlikely to vanish. As variants have emerged and outbreaks have ebbed and flowed, personal comfort levels with gatherings have fluctuated accordingly. A trend for the foreseeable future is to have your celebration — at least some part of it — outdoors. Set your sights on a beach, a park, a backyard, a
rooftop — anywhere guests can gather comfortably yet socially distance.
Get a feel for your guests’ preferences and consider the level of caution you feel is necessary. “My couples are typically in their late 20s, early 30s, and they have aging parents, so from the get-go they’re thinking of health and if it’s safe to move forward,” Folayan says. “They’re thinking of the health of their own parents, not just their grandparents.”
If you want guests to wear masks, let them know beforehand (a polite but firm mention on the invitations can alert guests well in advance) and also have disposable masks available. Some couples request that guests only attend if they’ve been vaccinated and can show proof; that’s up to you. Caterers, coordinators and servers are likely to be masked and often gloved. Many wedding planners explain their protocols on their websites.
Above all, your wedding 2.0 should reflect the two of you as a couple, whether it’s sleek and sophisticated with luxe décor, canapés and flutes of champagne followed by dinner and dancing — the “full monty” that you didn’t get to have the first time around — or a boat ride on the Mississippi followed by a barbecue in the backyard and games of bocce ball on the lawn.
If your first wedding was an elopement or a micro wedding, share photos or videos of the highlights. Share some stories and plan a few toasts to the people who helped you get through your “pandemic wedding.” This is also your opportunity to observe rituals you might have missed the first time around: the first look, the first dance, the cake cutting.
“We definitely had our doubts about having a second, bigger celebration,” says Huang. “But at the end of it all, we were grateful that we were able to celebrate officially with more friends and family. The pandemic made us realize not to take for granted these moments of getting together and celebrating.” *
Be flexible. Because there’s a backlog of couples waiting to wed, venue space and time will remain at a premium.
Spice up tradition with these modern, minimalist cake designs.
A three-tiered wedding cake is a classic choice, but this monochromatic piece by Hey There, Cupcake adds a contemporary vibe. Textured frosting is the canvas for feminine touches of pearls and pulled-sugar adornments. It all adds up to sweet perfection.
This on-trend, two-tiered delicacy by D’Amico Catering commands attention with an intricate design. Covered in Swiss meringue buttercream, the delicate stencil overlay, gum-paste berry sprigs, edible wafer paper and a touch of pearlescent luster take it to the next level.
For a modern twist on a timeless classic, Chowgirls Catering revamped the design using everyone’s favorite: buttercream frosting. Sitting on a bed of hanging amaranthus, the cake features clean sweeps of icing, with texture on the sides and top to draw the eye up. Fondant petals and edible pearls nod to the amaranthus below, with a hint of something blue.
DOUGH-PHORIA
Cake or art? This minimalist design by dough-phoria uses layered fondant geometrics to dramatic advantage in this edible masterpiece. Tiers of varying sizes give this cake a monumental, feel, a fitting creation to mark this milestone in your life.

GET YOUR GROOVE ON WITH MID-MOD BRIGHTS AND GEOMETRICS.
PAGE 63
A sleek 1966 Chevelle Super Sport decked out in a floral arrangement by Studio C Floral and filled with an abundance of balloons from Girl Friday is the epitome of cool, whether coming or going. Ready to party, our bride glows with a teased-up ponytail, bold earrings and a flirty cocktail mini with gauzy puffed sleeves.
THIS PAGE
Chargers and menus pick up the mod pattern of the tablecloth. Eye-catching reds, pinks and yellows in centerpieces by Ink & Ivy Designs keep it fresh, while an airy update on era-inspired chairs from Collected & Co. keeps it funky.
OPPOSITE
As hearts overflow with love and a car overflows with balloons, our newlyweds are ready to float off to their new life together.
OPPOSITE
Dare to be different with this asymmetric cake by Ink Sweets. Kicky colors and a daring balancing act make it an offbeat masterpiece — especially when placed on something other than the standard linened table. This gel-backed stand by Girl Friday with florals by St. Cloud Flowers & Gifts provides the perfect alternative.
THIS PAGE
Quirky glass candleholders add a shapely element of intrigue to the tablescape. The lively font in the invitation suite by Hunt Wright Design Co. announces guests are in for a retro bash to remember.
Our bride has flower power on her side. Her capelet of fresh blooms, designed by Studio C Floral, smoothly transitions from hot, deep reds to cooler, soothing yellows, the perfect way to top off her loose, flowing gown. Her beaming groom awaits her, framed by a ceremony installation by Girl Friday and St. Cloud Floral and Gifts.
OPPOSITE
Every mid-mod party needs a signature cocktail cart. Decorative stands match the ceremony installation, and double as a display for vintage blush glassware from Rudy’s Event Rentals.

Small is beautiful at this seasonal celebration, perfect for the couple who want to share their day with a favorite few. Every detail receives its due, starting with a tablescape alive with color, from the clean white china atop subtle blue chargers to the rainbow of fruit and florals.
Our bride, in a gown by Savannah Miller, chooses a simple hairstyle and fresh face, complementing her natural look with pearl-studded statement earrings. Her unstructured bouquet is like a breath of spring with lilacs, garden roses, Brownie tulips, hellebore and sweet peas.
Our couple make a quick change into relaxed looks for the reception. He trades his sophisticated ceremony ensemble for a touch of whimsy, while the bride charms us all over again in a gown with frilly cap sleeves and sleek neckline.
Ruffles of torn fondant and dizzying height give the bourbon chai cake from Ink Sweets a decidedly contemporary appeal.
The stationery suite is delicate and earthy at the same time, with deckle-edged paper, ethereal watercolors and a sweet silk ribbon to tie it all together.
White-on-white surface design takes the Collette plates from ordinary to elegant, amid sumptuous centerpieces and candles fancifully presented in bud vases by Jessica Holleque.

THE INEFFABLE BEAUTY OF A MINNESOTA LAKE AT SUNSET PROVIDES THE BACKDROP FOR A PLAYFUL PORTRAIT OF TRUE LOVE.
The two of you, awash in amour — that’s what the perfect wedding day should be. Our bride is in her element in the “Bianca” gown from Mara Marie Bridal, surrounded by glorious floating flower arrangements from Florology Wedding + Event Floral Design. The magic continues as our couple, poised for a kiss, sees the day’s last rays reflected in the soft, neutral hues of locally grown zinnias and snapdragons, Quicksand and Sahara roses, starflower pincushions and feathery, copper-tinted plumosa ferns.
In this dreamy setting, our bride opts for the simple beauty of a romantic ’do of long, flowing locks, adorned with a band of select blossoms, and minimalist makeup from Styled by Abbi. The groom, in an ensemble from The Tie Bar, seems smitten — as well he should be. *

CEREMONY & RECEPTION: Ashery Lane Farm, Mayer HONEYMOON: TBD
Lucy Rogers and Frank Ragnow met in high school and were “just friends,” but Frank always told her they would get married someday. Despite attending different colleges, Lucy would make the trip from Madison, Wisconsin, with high school friends to cheer on Frank playing football in Arkansas, and by senior year in college, the friendship had turned romantic. A year and a half later, they were walking in Excelsior Commons on Lake Minnetonka as a hidden photographer waited for Frank to get
on one knee. Following her enthusiastic “Yes!” came a surprise cruise with friends and family. Ashery Lane Farm was an idyllic backdrop for their wedding, which featured a sophisticated palette of whites and creams with greenery. After the ceremony, the newlyweds took some alone time to enjoy the first sweet moments of marriage. Loved ones from every stage of life were in attendance. “They all have made us who we are, and it was so amazing for them to be together to celebrate us,” Lucy says.

HONEYMOON: Miami
Revolution Photography, Julie Dukowitz Photography
After their romantic first date in summer 2020, it was clear that Luana Melz and Brent Libby had an undeniable connection. They met through an online dating site, and their love grew quickly. Brent just knew when it was time to pop the question. Their sunny June wedding was full of bright color and lively patterns. The couple tried to bring as much “home” as possible to Luana, who is from Brazil, since her family couldn’t
attend due to COVID-19. Lush blooms were on full display at the groom’s family home in Newport, where they held their nuptials. Flowers graced the back of every chair, and a floral installation with twinkling lights floated above as guests enjoyed a macaron tower. Flowers also formed a display of the couple’s initials behind the head table. Ropes of greenery and hanging floral bouquets added to the dreamy ambience.

CEREMONY & RECEPTION: Walker Art Center
HONEYMOON: 14-state road trip
Lindsay Sacco first noticed Idalia Friedson when a mutual friend tagged her in a photo on Instagram. On a whim, Lindsay decided to give her a follow and start a conversation in the DMs. After a few months of Facetiming, texting and old-fashioned letters in the mail, it was clear to them that this was something serious. Lindsay booked a flight from Minnesota to see Idalia in Washington, D.C. “From that moment, we both knew it was a forever kind of love,” Lindsay says. The first two years of their relationship were spent long-distance, but when the pandemic hit, they decided to quarantine together. A year later, after dinner at
their first-date spot and a sunset boat tour, Idalia popped the question to Lindsay in front of her favorite view of D.C. “There’s nothing like Abe Lincoln giving you a nod of approval while you’re professing your love to your soulmate,” she says. The Walker Art Center was the ideal spot for the couple, who love art, and was full of bold florals for their big day.
Lindsay’s aunt and Idalia’s grandmother both played music while a live painter captured the scene at their ceremony. Custom-colored macarons served as favors at the end of the night as the couple thanked their guests for supporting their exceptional love story.

Romance was in the air when Crystal Siemers-Peterman and Ean Sinn met at a wedding in 2019. Even though Crystal was heading back to California and Ean to Minnesota, it didn’t stop the couple from keeping in touch — 12 days after they met, Ean booked a flight to see her. COVID-19 interrupted their long-distance relationship, and Crystal decided to move closer to family in Wisconsin. Eight months after they met, Ean proposed with a bottle of wine
from a vineyard the two had visited in California. At the wedding, hues of pink and classic black suits set a romantic tone for the day, and a cheese board, pizza and ice cream were served, paying homage to Crystal’s childhood on a dairy farm. Because of the pandemic, this was the first time the couple’s families and friends met, which made it even more special, and many tears of joy were shed. The night ended with a full dance floor and full hearts.

Sparks flew for Ashlee Carlson and Justin Hullander when they met at a wedding in 2017. After three blissful years together, the two were hiking in Ely, and at a picturesque overlook of snow-covered pines, Justin asked Ashlee to be his wife. A dinner celebration that night was made more special when an anonymous couple heard the two talking excitedly about their engagement and paid for their dinner. Their wedding month was especially significant, as the bride’s grandparents married in March, and was also the month
the couple had met. Ashlee and Justin said “I do” after their two dogs walked down the aisle as “flower man” and “ring bearer” (both dogs are boys). Bloom Design’s one-of-a-kind floral installation above the head table welcomed spring, and twinkle lights warmed the space. Prosecco from The Tiny Tap flowed all night while guests captured the moment at the photo booth and munched on late-night snacks of cheese curds. The newlyweds couldn’t believe the love they felt that day — for each other, and from friends and family.

Krista Slusar-Mrazek and Noah Walz met while working together during college. After dating for a couple of years, Noah told Krista he wanted to show her a lakeside mansion in Alexandria before their dinner plans. As they walked to the end of the dock to get a better view, he shared an extensive history about the house — which he had made up, to buy time before dropping to one knee to propose, followed by a surprise (to Krista) engagement celebration with both families. Their
summer wedding was well attended by family and friends, including a mutual friend who acted as “flower man” before Krista walked down the aisle accompanied by her grandma’s best friend's singing. The couple chose a palette of blush and rose gold featuring pink Depression glass pieces that Krista’s family had thrifted over the years, and peonies flown in from Alaska. The night ended with divine desserts, lit by a neon sign of the newlyweds’ last name.

Gaurav Joshi knew he had to swipe right on Franny Gustafson when he came across her profile on dating app Bumble. He and his friend were on their way to Schnebly Hill Road for a spontaneous off-roading trip in Flagstaff, Arizona — where Franny lived. “If Gaurav had not agreed to visit Schnebly Hill that day and log on to Bumble, things may have turned out differently,” Franny said. A week later on Valentine’s Day, the two met in person for their first date. Six months after that, the couple was taking a walk in Sedona when Gaurav proposed. After her “Yes!” they strolled around Tlaquepaque, an arts community in Sedona, and celebrated
with glasses of bubbly. As guests arrived at Franny’s dream wedding venue, Camrose Hill, they signed a guestbook globe to honor the couple’s family members who live all over the world. Gaurav’s family photos filled a table, because COVID unfortunately kept most of them from attending. The ceremony payed homage to Gaurav’s culture with a Varmala Ceremony, during which the bride and groom exchange flower garlands to signify union. Afterward, the dance floor came alive as the DJ played American classics and Indian songs. But for the newlyweds, a favorite part of the day was sneaking outside to just take everything in.

A birthday barn party in Wisconsin brought Natalie Hager and Luis Loya together in 2015. The two went to colleges 20 minutes apart, though Natalie was from the Minneapolis suburbs and Luis from Chicago. After graduation, Luis followed Natalie to Minneapolis, where they spent the next four years making memories. The day they closed on their home, they decided to grab a bite and walk across the Stone Arch Bridge in downtown. As they approached the midpoint, Luis got down on one knee and proposed, a moment
that was “simply magical,” Natalie says. Their dreamy wedding of florals, twinkling lights, candles and chandeliers featured a blush, gold and nude palette. At the ceremony, a lasso was tied around the couple to signify unity, a tradition that honored Luis’ Mexican heritage. A mariachi band serenaded guests for the cocktail hour as friends and family reconnected. During the reception, the newlyweds snuck up to the roof overlooking Stillwater to pause and reflect on their happiness.

Nicollette Villella’s brother introduced his co-worker Charlie Olson to his sister, Nicollette; little did he know they were destined to be soulmates. Three years after that introduction, the couple had just closed on a new home together and stopped by the house afterward.
Nicollette was surprised and delighted by an aisle of candles and rose petals Charlie had arranged to have set up while they were out. “After I popped down on one knee and asked my best friend to marry me, I was relieved to hear the word ‘yes,’ ” Charlie says. On their wedding
day, Quincy Hall was graced with a floral installation suspended from the ceiling like a work of art. A neon sign declaring “That’s Amore” hung behind the head table, a nod to Nicollette’s Italian family; the sign now hangs in the couple’s home. Before the ceremony, bride and groom shared a meaningful first look. The first look at the reception area was also breathtaking: Charlie loved seeing his new wife’s face light up. Caterers spun pizzas until midnight as everyone danced, and the newlyweds say they couldn’t have been happier.

Ever since they were kids playing hockey together, Jessica Harrington and Anthony DeGiulio had a crush on each other, but both were too shy to say anything. Sophomore year, Jessica passed Anthony a note — and asked for a reply. They continued to pass notes until "eventually we were forced to talk to each other," Jessica recalls. At 16 they began dating. Eight years later, they were on a trip to Cabo when Anthony took advantage of a stunning sunset at the beach to propose. When the newly engaged couple arrived home, they were surprised with a house fully decorated for Christmas with flowers
from their families. The Lafayette Club was the perfect wedding venue, as some of the couple’s best memories took place at the lake. After they read their personally written vows, guests were welcomed to the reception with an accordion playing Italian music, a nod to the DeGiulio family, while guests were treated to favors of homemade meltaway cookies (the bride’s favorite) and limoncello, among other offerings. The newlyweds toasted the day with the same glasses the bride’s grandparents used at their wedding. To finish the evening, guests danced the night away to the Riverside All-Stars.

After exchanging glances in the hallway at work, Hailey Felski and Eric Facklam sensed there was something special there. Fast-forward five years: A guitarist was playing their song while they walked along the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis as Eric proposed on bended knee, then he surprised her with an engagement party with family and friends from out of town. Their wedding date fell on the 40th anniversary of the bride’s aunt and uncle, so Hailey
and Eric invited them to share the first dance to “Can’t Help Falling in Love with You.” The elegant neutral color palette carried through to the bridesmaids’ champagnehued dresses, set off by the groomsmen in black tuxedoes. Flickering taper candles lit up the ballroom at Hazeltine as bride and groom basked in the love of the important people in their lives. “It makes me tear up thinking back on the day,” Hailey recalls fondly.

Adena Byczek and Eric Hinz’s love story dates back 17 years, when the two met through mutual friends at a tailgate party. Over the years they ran in to each other, but it wasn’t until about five years ago that they crossed paths after not seeing each other for awhile and decided to hang out one night — and sparks ignited. On an autumn trip to Duluth, after a romantic dinner, Eric suggested a walk on a nearby dock and popped the question. At their mid-summer wedding, Eric’s brother-in-
law officiated, his sisters were bridesmaids and his sons were groomsmen. Adena’s favorite moments were walking down the aisle with her new stepsons and hearing the cheers after the couple’s first kiss, making it all feel official. A wedding planner herself, the bride filled the space with gold accents, pampas grass and greenery, complete with a ceremony arch and doughnut wall. Sparkler fountains made a bright beginning to a night full of dancing and celebration.
