The Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel in Omaha welcomed the Nebraska wedding community to celebrate the Spring / Summer ’24 Issue Release. The airy space was complete with a neutral color palette, architectural details, and beautiful florals, adhering to the Spring theme designed and planned by Lust for Life Events. The space was truly breathtaking with lush flowers designed and provided by Orange Lotus Designs, luxe rentals by The Wall Flower Omaha and signage by Nicole Reher Creative. Wedding pros sipped on drinks, enjoyed bites from the hotel while The Toast Band performed live music. Foto Fun Spot’s photo booth was the perfect way to document the evening, followed by delicious desserts from Once Upon a Cake.

UNVEILED

INSPIRATION FOR THE NEARLY WED

Embracing the charm of Old Hollywood romance, this bride chose a vintage 1920s gown, complemented by family heirloom jewelry, to produce a distinctive wedding day look at Joslyn Castle, beautifully captured by Victoria Peterson. See more on page 32.

SECRET GARDEN

Inspired by the flourishing greenery of the Midwest and the industrial aesthetic of Omaha, Emma Roberts of Emma’s Photo Co. crafted a perfectly juxtaposed wedding design that brought a secret garden to the concrete jungle. Achieving the modern side of the design, The Omaha Studio offered a sleek canvas for the concept with its clean lines and neutral backdrop. Following the theme, an array of green blooms by Orange Lotus Designs created a lush oasis. A dramatic bouquet including sword fern, lily grass and green anthurium gracefully matched the bride’s Truvelle gowns and the groom’s chic calla lily boutonnière. The ceremony space was framed with acrylic pedestals adorned with a remarkable arrangement of blooms, with candles offering a cozy glow. The candlelit tablescape was a dream come true featuring reindeer moss and singular flowers surrounded by grapes and pears. Elegant toile plates and white bows added a touch of femininity to the verdant display. “My advice would be, if you love elements from different vibes or themes, don’t be afraid to mix and match to see what you come up with,” Roberts said. “There are no rules.” Sydney Stevens

Finding “the one” is a daunting task. For bride Megan Freese, she knew she wanted to do something different for her wedding day, and she didn’t want to settle for just one look. As a professional in the fashion industry at Moda Operandi, where her day-to-day consists of helping stylists find pieces for bridal clients, Megan sought four unique ensembles for her Omaha festivities. “Despite all my wedding looks being from different designers, I was so happy with how cohesive they ended up being!” she said. LABOR OF LOVE

Karli McCain and Austin Coffin used their extraordinary DIY talents to create a wedding that was rich with meaning and full of personal touches. A talented woodworker and carpenter, Austin milled the seats for the wedding and laserengraved the welcome sign. He also laser-engraved and hand-carved each family member’s name for seating at the reception. Karli, an enthusiastic thrifter, found or made many items. For nearly a year before the wedding, the couple collected and recycled green glassware to be used during the cocktail hour, then each guest chose a glass for their beverage of choice and kept it as a wedding-day token. A fan of boho chic, Karli also collected used vintage rugs to place down the aisle. Extended family also took part: one aunt arranged the florals using assorted dried and artificial flowers, and another aunt provided homemade wine for an after-the-ceremony cocktail hour. —Sherri Hildebrandt

A NEBRASKA WEDDING PROFESSIONAL HEADS TO WYOMING FOR A LAVISH FIVE-DAY WEDDING

CELEBRATION

The wild wild West boasts mountain views and a unique atmosphere that is as cinematic as it is romantic. For Grace Osborn and Jason Howard, Brush Creek Ranch near Saratoga, Wyoming, was the ideal spot for their five-day extravaganza. They also knew the best person for the job: lifelong friend of the bride’s family, Kimmylea Konsel-Taylor of LimeLight Expressions. Rallying wedding professionals from 13 different states, Konsel-Taylor turned Grace and Jason’s luxe-meets-western dream into a reality.

The festivities began on Wednesday with a cozy, candlelit cellar dinner paired with the finest vino. Games, breathtaking views and live music performed by country star Charly Reynolds was the lineup for the Thursday evening welcome party. Rich fall tones decorated Friday’s rehearsal dinner accompanied by music from Restless Road and a whiskey fortune teller from New York. Saturday’s wedding day was like something from a fairytale. A floral-lined aisle led to an impressive display of opulent blooms overlooking the Wyoming countryside. A night of dancing ensued as the band Alabama took to the stage, paying homage to the couple’s meeting place and alma mater, the University of Alabama. The jubilation concluded on Sunday with a farewell dinner and a pajama party with Image Entertainment acting as the DJ. From start to finish, KonselTaylor crafted one-of-a-kind events that were brimming with personal details and flawlessly reflected the bride and groom.

Pretty purples, bountiful blooms and ethereal elements create a fanciful design at Omaha’s new venue, Zenia. The modern property opened its doors in 2023 and serves as a sleek location for couples to tie the knot.

Inspired by fanciful garden atmospheres, Kaitlyn Ryan of 1432 Events crafted an enchanting wedding day concept. “At the beginning of planning, the main word I was hearing was ‘whimsical,’” Ryan says. “I had this idea where I really wanted a fun feel amid a garden setting.” Dana Osborne Design leaned into the floral-focused theme to yield a stunning array of stationery paired with custom wax seals.

With Ryan’s playfully elegant vision in mind, Jessica Franks of Ethereal Floral Studio used a bright spring mix of allium, stock flower, butterfly ranunculus, hydrangeas, shimmer and quicksand roses and larkspur. “We used fern types for foliage to soften the look and provide a bit of movement for the bouquets and installations,” Franks says. A unique poppy bulb boutonnière brings a dainty bit of beauty to the scheme.

The ceremony space is framed with lush white roses and greenery while blooms in pink and purple shades decorate the aisle. An off-the-shoulder jacquard gown from Ellynne Bridal adds the perfect touch of romance to this joyous day. Adhering to the concept, jewelry from 14 Karat Omaha added sparkle throughout the design, particularly with a one-of-a-kind amethyst ring.

I truly wanted this spread to feel like the perfect garden party atmosphere. I knew that the colors were going to scream feminine and girly, so going heavy on the greenery pushed us into this beautiful garden look.

Ryan, 1432 Events

Flickering candles cast a mystical glow on the table garnished with an opulent runner of flourishing florals. “The tablescape was my favorite,” Franks says. “I wanted it to look like it was growing upward from the tabletop as if it were a garden." Iridescent glassware and patterned napkins adorn each place setting, enhancing the atmosphere. “My goal was to pull in some color and pattern without taking too much away from everything else we had going on,” Ryan says. “I think that the subtle pink floral napkins did this perfectly.”

A mesmerizing cloud of blooms grace the cocktail hour, along with arrangements that appear to sprout naturally from the ground. A grand drink installation wall accented with macrame pendant lights reigns over the scene offering celebratory lavender libations.

Growing up in a small town means you automatically share a bond with others who grew up in a small town. That’s true for Karli McCain, who grew up in Hartington, and Austin Coffin, from Shelby. When they met at a party in college, it felt like they’d known each other all their lives. Time spent with family and enjoying life at the lake is important to them, so their wedding ceremony at the edge of Lewis & Clark Lake perfectly reflected their love of the peace and beauty found outdoors. When it came time to choose wedding attendants, Karli resolved to pick two of her best friends from childhood: her two male cousins, who as “bridesmen” joined her bridesmaids for the trip down the aisle. Also, part of the wedding party was Karli and Austin’s beloved German Shepherd, Skye. Family was involved in other ways, too. Karli collected wedding photos from both sides of their families and hung them from tree branches around the wedding site in thrifted frames, a meaningful tribute to examples of great marriages. Following a tradition in the area, the bridal party made a quick detour for a photo op at the old gas station in Bow Valley, then it was on to the reception where not even the 102 degree weather could melt the happiness of the day.

Ashley Whitley and Chinedu Izuegbunam started flirting at summer camp in 2015—as counselors, not campers. Over the years, the friendship (and flirting!) continued, and though educational goals took them to other parts of the country, they both ended up back in Lincoln. Romance bloomed, culminating in a twoday, high-energy, multi-cultural wedding. Nebraska met Nigeria at Friday’s celebration. Bright colors, traditional food and clothing play a big part in Nigerian weddings, as does dancing by members of both the bride’s and groom’s wedding party. “An important piece to a traditional Nigerian (Igbo) wedding is the Igba Nkwu, where the bride seeks her future husband in the audience,” Ashley shares. “During this time, I went to look for Nedu and once I did, I offered him a cup of wine that he consumed to indicate he is indeed the correct man in the crowd I am choosing to marry.” Saturday night’s traditional American celebration was highlighted with sparkle, Ashley said. “My dress’s under-layer was sparkly, my bridesmaids’ dresses were pure gold and sparkles, and the table decor consisted of gold sequined tablecloths and table numbers that I hand-made!” Nedu is a huge fan of the Backstreet Boys, so he rallied his groomsmen to perform a personal dance and serenade his new wife. And as a special gift to his bride, Nedu “journaled every day for a year leading up to our wedding and presented that to me in a special book form,” Ashley says, “with pictures and his daily thoughts on why he finds me special.” — Sherri Hildebrandt

A small, simple ceremony was exactly what Sarah Doolan and Cale Henry had in mind when planning their wedding. There was one important factor that needed to be considered: They wanted to make sure their children were a big part of the day. “Having our children involved was very important and special to us, so their roles in the ceremony were so much fun,” Sarah says. “Cale had two sons when I met him, and we have a daughter together, so being able to integrate everyone together was very special.” With only family and close friends in attendance, the couple had the intimate, elegant celebration they envisioned. Sarah and Cale became husband and wife at the edge of a small lake before a simple wooden backdrop draped with swaths of white fabric, bouquets of white florals and garlands of greenery. One fun fact Sarah shared was about The Kiss: Cale had been sick days before the wedding, so “Our kiss at the ceremony was our first kiss in almost a week to keep me healthy!” The magical day ended with Sarah, Cale, their kids and their nearest and dearest enjoying a laid-back evening of dining and dancing—the perfect way to start their life as a new family. — Sherri Hildebrandt

A neutral color palette, an elegant array of blooms and special details were on full display for Seraya Hamilton and Pierce Anderson’s classic-meets-modern wedding at The Fountains Ballroom. Amid the venue’s serene landscape, a beautiful waterfall set a tranquil mood for the al fresco ceremony performed by the couple’s pastor. Seraya’s bridesmaids, attired in black gowns of their own choosing, and Pierce’s dapper groomsmen dressed in black, contrasting with Pierce’s white tux, set the black-and-white theme. The reception achieved the minimalist chic vibe the pair was going for; a plethora of baby’s breath and white roses softened the contemporary space as flickering candles and fairy lights added a touch of romance. Guests left voicemails for newlyweds via the “After the Tone” telephone guest book (also making for cute photo-ops). Not fans of cake, Seraya and Pierce chose to honor their special day by choosing an assortment of favorite desserts, resulting in a veritable dessert charcuterie board. Seraya upped her comfort level by changing into a daring white jumpsuit to dance the night away with her husband before they were escorted with a bubble send-off by their loved ones. “We truly wish we could relive it again and again!” the bride said. Her parting advice? “Try to slow down on your day,” Seraya says. “They really don’t lie when they say it goes by quickly!” — Sydney Stevens

A college friendship between Marissa Gigantelli and Nick Lassek progressed to romance, and while the two shared a love for their Italian roots, it was cheese that really bonded them: Romano over Parmesan, they agreed! Their love resulted in a wedding ceremony at St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church, presided over by Nick’s cousin, a priest, with an emphasis on strong family and friendship ties. Marissa’s passion for sustainable clothing was carried out through her thrifted gown by Sincerity, a dreamy dress with a sweetheart neckline and detailed embroidery, complemented by a dramatic floor-length veil. She carried a charming bouquet of white and blush blooms from Stems, echoed in Nick’s boutonniere. Then it was on to the Hotel Deco for dinner, cake and dancing. The couple honored their heritage by incorporating some Italian traditions into the celebration, notably offering “Bomboniera,” a popular party favor at many Italian celebrations. It includes sugar-coated Jordan almonds and symbolizes fertility and sweetness over bitterness in a new marriage. Marissa surprised guests by changing into a short and flirty second dress as the party got into swing and cake-cutting commenced. There wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd when Taylor Boshart and Haley Kieser recited their personalized vows to each other at their elegant outdoor wedding ceremony at Hillcrest Country Club. The couple’s passion for DIY was notably reflected throughout the celebration filled with décor made by the couple, starting with a set of double doors at the ceremony site through which each bride entered. The brides’ bouquets and other floral arrangements added pops of color, while the stage was beautifully decorated with exquisite 8-foot floral garlands that included roses, dahlias, ranunculus and Italian ruscus. Handcrafted touches at the reception included party animal name cards, Kentucky Derby-themed signature cocktails, and plenty of interactive activities and games including beer pong and a special lemonade stand served by the flower girls. Another unique touch at the reception included photos stationed at each table featuring the brides at their respective ages according to the table number. At the end of the evening, the couple shared a private dance to Adele’s “When We Were Young,” topping off the night in a sentimental and very personal fashion. — Jenny Castro

The hidden jewel stands as a lush oasis where guests were transported to an enchanted garden in Omaha’s historic Old Market. Honoring their vow to stay present with each other on the big day, Angela and John D’s morning started with a relaxing stroll with their dogs before festivities began. Adhering to the ethereal atmosphere, the bride donned a beautifully billowing Alena Leena gown and carried a monochromic bouquet of white orchids and roses as the groom opted for a striking black suit by Vera Wang. A sentimental ceremony preceded a chic 1920s-inspired cocktail party complete with a jazz trio. Tables were adorned with dainty florals weaving touches of mauve throughout the neutral palette.
