RELEASE PARTY
For Spring/Summer 2024 Issue
Washington’s finest came together to celebrate the launch of the inaugural Spring/Summer ‘24 issue of Washington Wedding Day at THE 101. The magazine, which changed its name from Seattle Bride to Washington Wedding Day for inclusivity reasons, released its first issue with the new title featuring stunning gowns, stylish florals, the best real weddings and more.
Planned and designed by Bridal Bliss, the evening was a chic ode to spring featuring dainty pastels and bold florals. Elle Fleurit Floral Co. crafted whimsical centerpieces and a blooming lounge area adorned with seasonal flora in pinks and yellows. Act3 Catering provided beautifully presented bites to keep attendees satiated, and drinks by Seattle Bartending were an artful display of vibrance. Infinity Jewelry by Margaret was a fun addition to the evening as well as a stylish photo booth from 321 Foto.
For a sweet treat, Aha Sugar Co.’s ice cream cart decorated with balloons offered four flavors and a toppings bar. And of course, ice cream isn’t complete without a complimenting churro from the station adjacent. Papier and Design created paper goods and graphic designs that tied together the whimsical ambiance, and music from Kryspin Music kept the vibes upbeat for a night of celebration with some of the wedding industry’s best. Verdant Cinema captured the evening’s festivities on video and Tetiana Photography showcased the evening with beautiful photos.

INTO THE COSMOS
A verdant nursery was the idyllic scene for this playful design. Planned by the experts at Juliet + Lou, the concept centers on the vibrant cosmos flower, which symbolizes harmony, balance and friendship. “As a nod to the role that friendship plays in the real-life couple’s relationship, we incorporated the friendliest of details throughout the celebration,” explains Elsa Walker of Juliet + Lou. In keeping with the theme, a uniquely quirky friendship bracelet station adds a whimsical touch to the celebration. Handstitched cosmos designs adorn the stationery, and the reception area features colorful tablescapes with textured taper candles and flowers arranged in low bowls. Colors reminiscent of spring and summer, such as orange sherbet, peach fuzz, raspberry, marigold yellow and white compose the palette, with accents provided by feverfew, hydrangea and waxflower. Details such as a cotton candy station and live music lend a festive atmosphere to the event. Our bride—radiant in a high-slit organza and silk gown—and groom embody the flirty, fun romance that inspired the day’s celebration.

BEHIND THE SCENES
By Myla Li PhotosGOLDEN ERA
The Ruins in Seattle’s Lower Queen Anne neighborhood is a unique and eclectic venue, with its maximalist aesthetic, transporting guests to another time and place. “For this styled shoot, we wanted to utilize the space in an entirely new way that we haven’t seen done before at this particular venue,” notes photographer Taylor Ochoa. “The building is unassuming from the outside, but once you step through the doors, you’re transported to an entirely different world. With a speakeasy and art-filled walls, guests will be drawn into the experience and celebration of your day in an instant.”
Special features abounded in this shoot, from the ceremonial circle in the middle of the space to the U-shaped reception table with a flower “meadow” in the center. A profusion of gold adornments, including gold flecks in the Champagne tower and dinner menus trimmed in gold foil, infused the scene with a sense of luxury. —Chelsea Gibson

LET’S GLAMP
Situated on 175 verdant acres in the Columbia River Gorge, SKAMANIA LODGE (@skamanialodge) has been a leading destination for weddings, as well as honeymoons and pre-wedding getaways, since it opened in 1993. Recently, the lodge expanded its offerings with the luxurious Tree House Village and a new event space, the Moonlight Pavilion. Now, Skamania takes camping to the highest level of luxury with its newly opened glamping experience. Luxurious safaristyle tents are tucked in among Skamania’s forest of Douglas fir trees, offering elegance-seeking nature lovers the opportunity to commune with the outdoors— without compromising luxury and comfort. “The glamping experience allows guests to unwind in nature while enjoying the unparalleled amenities and services synonymous with Skamania Lodge,” says Jack Hansen, director of sales and marketing at Skamania Lodge.
The spacious tents offer a serene retreat with a plush sleeping area featuring 300-threadcount sheets, a separate bathing
tent with a full-size bathtub and shower, a coffee and hot chocolate bar and a private outdoor firepit surrounded by Adirondack chairs. In addition, guests can count on all the usual hotel accouterments—and then some: cozy hooded robes, lawn and board games, s’more fixings, flashlights and a basket filled with goodies such as snacks, beverages, Pendleton blankets, warm socks, hats and more. And though you are among the forest’s flora and fauna, the glamping tents are within walking distance of the Skamania trailhead and lodge, making it easy to indulge in everything the lodge has to offer, from its spa to a gourmet meal in the Cascade Dining Room or River Rock Lounge. —Lara Burnap

UP CLOSE & PERSONALIZED
A chance encounter blossomed into a lifelong love, leading Hadley and Jeff to a picturesque wedding at Seattle’s Center for Urban Horticulture. After a heartfelt proposal surrounded by close friends, the couple set about personalizing the décor of their nuptials, taking a DIY approach. Even their save-the-date cards had a personal quality, made from Polaroid photos taken by the couple during the wedding planning. On a crisp September day, they exchanged vows surrounded by the vibrant autumnal hues of the sprawling, lush botanical gardens. The ceremony was intimate, highlighted by the appearance of some special guests: playful bunnies hopping nearby. Hadley’s elegant dress and pearl-studded boots complemented Jeff’s deep blue velvet tuxedo, creating a perfect blend of classic yet contemporary style. Guests enjoyed a lively cocktail hour, which featured dice games and personalized “cattoos” of the couple’s beloved pet, Scully. The reception featured alfresco dining under the trees, with custom cross-stitched table numbers and mini espresso martinis served alongside desserts. “I really loved seeing our friends and family sharing moments with their partners over the course of the night. It was so special to witness all of the love in the room with us,” says the bride. —Megan Simpson Teeter

SLIP INTO PERFECTION
In an endless pursuit to find the perfect slip dress— one that is versatile and timeless—best friends and fashionistas Kristina Kelly and Keely Brittles finally decided to design their own. “We asked ourselves, ‘What does it take to make a statement piece that stands out amongst your favorite dresses?’” The duo spent two years sourcing a luminous, buttery soft silk and conceptualizing the ideal shape before revealing “The Ruby” by VICENTE (@vicente_thelabel) . Crafted in Los Angeles from 100% charmeuse silk, this wardrobe staple is a versatile dress that combines elegance and functionality. “The Ruby” is a beautiful option for weddings, whether it’s as a sleek selection for a bridal shower or rehearsal dinner, or as the ideal bridesmaid gown —which truly will be worn again. It’s fashionable, functionable and ready to wear.

WEDDING REWRITTEN
Eliza Smith and Sheldon Costa met during their MFA graduate program for writing, so it was only natural that their wedding was a creative endeavor. They envisioned a small, non-traditional affair with a plethora of personal touches at Shafer Baillie Mansion. A day before the ceremony, the couple ventured to Pike Place Market to collect their wedding décor: dried flowers from the Lee Family Farm stand. On the big day, Eliza and Sheldon ditched the traditional timeline and began with a cozy cocktail hour, where they mingled with their guests, setting a relaxed yet joyous tone. The couple walked together, hand in hand, into the ceremony, officiated by a grad-school friend who had everyone laughing and crying in turn. Dinner was served on the mansion’s terrace, with library cards doubling as place cards, a clever nod to their love of literature. The evening flowed seamlessly into a lively karaoke reception at The Lab at Ada’s Technical Books & Cafe, where guests’ voices filled the night with laughter and song. Sheldon’s handcrafted popcorn figurine was a whimsical touch, contributing to the night’s charm. As the evening wound down, the newlyweds looked back on a day that felt truly, authentically theirs.

SEASON OF CHANGE
THE PROS’ GUIDE TO CHANGING YOUR LAST NAME AFTER THE WEDDING
While planning the big day, your focus is mainly on event details, guest lists and your ensemble. However, for anyone who has decided to change their name post-wedding, the “adventure” continues long after the vendors have been tipped and the relatives have departed.
Going into the name change process for the first time, many newlyweds (understandably) have no idea what to expect. Enter Colie Christensen, founder of NewlyNamed, a name change kit service designed to make officiating your new last name a breeze.
Washington Fun Fact: “The Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL) does not allow middle name changes,” notes Colie. “So, if you’d like to change your middle name you must either obtain a court order or update your US passport to your new married name before visiting the state’s DOL to obtain your new driver’s license.”
Colie details the eight “places” brides and grooms must remember to change their names...
SOCIAL SECURITY
IRS
U.S. PASSPORT
DRIVER’S LICENSE
VOTER REGISTRATION
VEHICLE TITLE & REGISTRATION
PROFESSIONAL LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
PERSONAL ACCOUNTS such as banks, credit unions, credit cards, investment accounts, frequent flyer programs, travel programs (TSA Pre, Global Entry, etc.) and more. When couples work with NewlyNamed, Colie notes: “We have 3,000+ companies (personal accounts) in our database that our customers can select and add to their kit. Most select 20-30.”
It’s important to begin by updating your name with the Social Security Administration (SSA) by filling out form Form SS-5, the application for a new social security card (can be done by mail or online). This step is foundational because your name officially and legally changes after it’s updated with the SSA and the IRS, making it possible to change your name everywhere else. However, it’s important to mention that even though your name is changed in the SSA system, you’ll still need to update it everywhere else to match.
“Once your name is updated with the SSA, other entities can reference it to confirm your new legal name,” explains Colie. This sets the stage for the next steps in the name change process. After updating your name with the SSA, the following locations typically require attention:
IRS: Changing your name with SSA will update your name with the Internal Revenue Service, however, it’s pertinent to note that you should wait about 10 to 14 days after you change your name with the SSA to file your tax return.
U.S. PASSPORT: Apply for a new passport with your updated name. This usually requires submitting Form DS-11 along with supporting documents like your marriage certificate and current passport.
DRIVER’S LICENSE: Make a DMV appointment and bring a document with proof of your new name on it and your marriage license, as well as your new-license fee. Visit dol.wa.gov/driver-licenses-and-permits/ for more details.
VOTER REGISTRATION: Re-register to vote in the state of Washington – you can do this online eight or more days before an election. Learn more at olvr.votewa.gov
VEHICLE TITLE REGISTRATION: Gather the original copy of your vehicle’s title (it cannot be a photocopy) or complete an affidavit of loss if you don’t have the title. Then, complete the Vehicle Title Application, which will ask you to provide proof of your name change, and then submit your documentation with a fee. Check out dol.wa.gov/vehicles-and-boats/ for more information.
PROFESSIONAL LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
If you hold any professional licenses or certifications, such as a nursing license or teaching certificate, notify the issuing authority of your name change.
PERSONAL ACCOUNTS: Update your name with all personal accounts, including banks, credit unions, credit cards, investment accounts, frequent flyer programs and travel programs like TSA PreCheck and Global Entry.
We get it; the list can be a little daunting. If you want to save yourself the time (and the headache), NewlyNamed’s comprehensive name change kit service streamlines this process and ensures you don’t miss any accounts. With NewlyNamed’s extensive database, you can easily navigate this process and select the entities you’ll need to update within your own kit. Why can’t wedding planning be that simple?

HAMPTONS, NORTHWEST STYLE
CLASSIC ELEGANCE TAKES CENTER STAGE AT FOX HOLLOW FARMS OUTSIDE OF SEATTLE
A wealth of classic chic was on display at this sophisticated styled shoot at Fox Hollow Farm in the foothills of Issaquah’s mountains, just 30 minutes outside of downtown Seattle. The whimsical setting offered everything a couple could ever dream of—manicured gardens, wooded hills, a rustic barn and a trickling creek next to a historic 1940s manor. “This chic wedding brings Hamptons-style inspiration to the Pacific Northwest,” notes Emily Rose of Rose Andrew Events. “We were inspired by the classic white manor home of the property and the hydrangea galore to marry coastal grandma aesthetic with a preppy East Coast Hamptons feel.” A palette of blush and white enhanced the romance already charmingly embodied in the bride’s bow-back dress and standout floral design.

THE SWEETEST THING
MINIMALIST
BEAUTY IN A SOOTHING PALETTE INSPIRED BY THE SWEETEST OF FRUITS
The design concept was simple: a stylish microwedding highlighting textural greenery, Amaranthus flowers and a rectangular cake. The result was pure enchantment. “Something different and fun is exactly what I was looking for in my upcoming wedding season,” says event stylist Mimi Nguyen of Gather with Mimi. She and photographer Myla Li of Myla Li Photos constructed a minimalistic and chic modern motif, focusing on bringing natural elements into the chosen industrial space. Manette Flower Co. ensured that the blooms of the day, including the floating installation above the ceremony space and the bride’s bouquet, matched the palette and the minimalist vibe of the design. For the reception, each piece of décor served the purpose of accenting the centerpiece: the lengthy dessert. “The jaw-dropping ribbed cake sprinkled with edible pearls and green hydrangea flowers was sitting on a 5-foot-long and 7-inch-wide wooden board,” says Nguyen. The tablescape came to life in the presence of the cake. Pears adorned with pearl pins, green grapes in coupe glasses and white candles featuring sheer bows dotted the tabletop, flanking the clusters of white and lime green Anthuriums. “The fruits made for a great, quick snack on the go,” explains Nguyen.
JUST THE TWO OF US
CREATIVE WAYS TO ELOPE IN STYLE, FROM SEAPLANES TO SUNRISE HIKES
Four breathtaking nuptials are distilled to the simple heart of the matter: the couple and their love for one another. If you are considering an elopement, take inspiration from these lovebirds and their intimate ceremonies, with details ranging from DIY flowers to portable feasts to a high-flying adventure.
PIPER & GREG
Piper Zeno and Greg Hart were inspired by a story in Washington Wedding Day (formerly Seattle Bride ) of an elopement to the North Cascades and Orcas Island via seaplane—a wedding scenario the bride had always dreamed of. As luck would have it, they were able to find the same photographer who worked on that story, and the couple decided it was destiny. On their elopement day, Piper wore a simple silk dress with a pearl-adorned veil,
the embodiment of understated elegance. They ditched traditional florals, letting the island’s beauty speak for itself. Their best friend officiated, and they shared heartfelt private vows. The highlight was the seaplane adventure. Their pilot, Austin, spotted a pod of orcas and landed on a private sandbar so they could walk barefoot on the sand. The scenic flight over the islands was everything they had envisioned and more.

Carmen Hargis-Villanueva and James Clemen wanted intimate and meaningful nuptials, avoiding the frenzy of large weddings. Inspired by their shared love for the outdoors, the couple chose a private elopement in sight of Mount Shuksan and Mount Baker. When dawn came, they exchanged vows in a spot overlooking the two breathtaking peaks, and then shared a picnic in celebration. Carmen honored her Spanish heritage with a traditional dress for the morning ceremony, switching to a more relaxed outfit for the evening festivities, which included meeting their friends and family for camp games, dancing and a meal.

ERICA & ANDREW
Erica Walker and Andrew Richardson’s shared love for the outdoors became the heart of their wedding plans. Initially, they had decided on a 150-person wedding in Michigan, but seeing some stunning photos of Mount Rainier inspired them to elope instead. Embracing their adventurous spirit, they opted for an intimate ceremony in the majestic national park. The theme? A blend of exploration and family warmth. The bride and groom decided to ditch formal shoes for hiking boots, ready to trek through the forest. Erica’s bouquet was accessorized with a pin shaped like their specialneeds corgi, Wilbur, who couldn’t be there. They exchanged heartfelt vows in a serene forest setting, then celebrated with an alfresco meal. DIY florals, inspired by the native wildflowers, added a bright, summery touch to the scene. Their day was filled with personal details, including Irish whiskey toasts and a customized Champagne bottle. A sunset hike ended with their private first dance to Taylor Swift’s “Lover,” with Mount Rainier as their backdrop.

Andrew Byfield’s perfect proposal to Amanda Ladner took place on a 9-mile hike at Cheakamus Lake in Whistler, just the two of them in that beautiful landscape, setting the stage for their nature-inspired wedding dreams. Knowing a traditional wedding wasn’t for them, the pair imagined a day that reflected their happiest moments: early morning hikes, stunning mountain views and intimate moments together. Their elopement planning led them to Washington’s North Cascades National Park, a place where their dream could come to life. On their special day, the bride and groom embraced the beauty of the mountains with a sunrise hike. Amanda chose a neutral, rust-colored theme, wearing a dress that perfectly complemented Andrew’s deep burgundy suit. Their attire, along with white, rust and peach wildflowers, blended into the natural surroundings. After a coffee picnic and reading letters from loved ones atop the mountain, they spoke their private vows to one another in the serene morning light. Later, they descended to celebrate with family and friends in the lush forest.

EVENTS BY GENEVIEVE (@eventsbygenevieve) & BUSARA FLORA (@busara.flora)
An air of polished elegance blends with a Pacific Northwest palette of greens to define this lovely design by Events by Genevieve and Busara Flora at JM Cellars. Classic, clean lines are reflected in the bridal gown, cake and stationery, contrasting beautifully with light and airy florals arranged with a focus on texture and foliage. Busara Flora created an unconventional ceremony design with the couple ensconced in an organized, overgrown garden of blooming branches, fritillaria, orchids and delphinium. The bouquet is timeless with subtle tendrils of greenery cascading from a gathering of tulips, ranunculus and a smattering of lily of the valley.

BEST REAL WEDDING SESIRA & WILL
Sesira and Will’s epic wedding celebrated the joining of their lives with a double ceremony at the Four Seasons Hotel Seattle. First, they honored Sesira’s Indian heritage by tying the knot in a traditional wedding sari and sherwani beneath a stunning acrylic mandap covered in a fragrant blend of wisteria, garden roses, ranunculus, lisianthus and orchids. The couple then did a dress change for their Western ceremony, with the bride in an off-the-shoulder gown, and the groom in a classic tux. The mandap also served as an equally stunning frame for the couple’s sweetheart table at the reception. Every detail was on point, from the water-colored invitation suites to the iridescent bridesmaids’ gowns to the delicate floral cake.

AN EXQUISITE DESIGN SCHEME RECALLS OLD WORLD ROMANCE WITH DECADENT DETAILS, BEAUTIFUL FLORALS AND UNIQUE TOUCHES
Design & Planning: Bixby + Pine Photography: Sarah Anne Thompson Text: Chelsea Gibson Venue: Chateau FayloliSet just outside of Seattle, a magical private estate exists. History is everywhere you turn at Chateau Fayloli—from the grandiose marble fountain brought from New York City in the 1920s to the artwork gracing the walls dating back to 1700s France. “The moment we stepped onto this property, we felt the grandness, and our creativity was just brimming,” explains Taylor Rychener of Bixby + Pine. “Bringing this intentional timepiece of an Old World romance story to life was truly a creative dream.”
The palette is a blend of muted tones of apricot, blush, mauve, soft buttery yellow, peach and dusty blue, with accents of chartreuse and oxblood woven throughout. The bountiful florals lining the aisle envelop the courtyard, creating an intimate ceremony setting.
A masterful confection, the three-tiered cake is a study in technique, covered with bas-relief details and handmade sugar flowers, including heirloom roses, garden roses, clematis, butterfly ranunculus, forget-me-nots and ivy.
We focused on creating MOOD with a lighter color story and darker shadows, bringing to life a ROMANTIC European style, pulling in many TEXTURES and layers to create depth and dimension.
– Ash Aske, Bixby + PineAn intimate reception design epitomizes romance with long tapered candles and draping linens. Florals are soft, delicate and whimsical, incorporating textures, tones and interest from blooms such as butterfly ranunculus, hellebore, lisianthus, sweet peas and poppies.
“With that Old World dark-romance style in mind, we carefully selected an incredible list of pieces—from the wood table to the old and mismatched chairs to the vintage lace runner. We curated crystal glassware, handmade earthenware plates, vintage mother-of-pearl silverware and a frayed, rawedge napkin for every place setting,” says Rychener.
The bespoke invitation suite evokes the charm of the past, with muted rose tone letterpress on handmade paper with deckled edges; sage green silk ribbon; layered vellum; vintage floral painting and postage; and calligraphy— all tied with a cord rope.
Not to be outdone, the bride’s and groom’s styles fit the sweeping sophistication of the day. The groom sports a black velvet suit jacket, classic black pants, bow tie and velvet loafers. The bride is a timeless vision in an airy ballgown with sleeves that transition into a flowing cape.
Through shadows we pulled a DARKNESS into the images to make this artfully intentional. From the tones within the color story to the ANTIQUE pieces to the TEXTURES and everything in between, not one stone was left unturned.

SARAH & CADE
Married & Celebrated: THE CORSON BUILDING, SEATTLE
Date: SEPTEMBER 3, 2023
Cade Beyer worked as a bartender at the local cocktail bar three blocks down from Sarah Register’s apartment. She was a regular in the summer of 2020, but it wasn’t until her parents visited that her dad pointed out that Cade might have a crush on her. Later that evening, Cade asked Sarah out on a date and “we’ve been together ever since, traveling to many different countries, hiking with our two dogs and growing together,” says the bride. The theme of their wedding was reminiscent of an Italian summer, with a beautiful pastel palette that included pinks, oranges and yellows. The European ambiance was bolstered by the stunning architecture and greenery of The Corson Building. Since Sarah is Australian and Cade is American—and they have family all around the globe—they decided to celebrate their union with a small event with only their closest family and friends in attendance. The ceremony itself was intimate and magical. Sarah walked down the aisle in a gorgeous gown made from fabrics sourced from many different countries, including Colombia and Italy. The couple met at the altar before a large, luscious fig tree, aptly symbolizing fruitfulness and prosperity on their big day. Sarah and Cade wanted to involve their guests in their union, so they concluded the ceremony by signing their marriage certificate and having guests repeat a shared vow to support them as a couple. Dinner, held underneath hanging foliage and string lights, featured bright blooms and sliced lemons, in keeping with the sophisticated Italian motif. —Lila Swedzinski

ANNIE & MITCHELL
Married & Celebrated: THE LODGE AT TRINITY TREE FARM, ISSAQUAH
Date: AUGUST 26, 2023
Annie and Mitchell’s wedding was inspired by the romantic hues found on Taylor Swift’s “Lover” album cover; the celebration bloomed with a palette of pinks, yellows and periwinkle blue, painting a picture-perfect garden party. Guests were greeted by a custom sign designed by the bride herself, along with refreshing beverages and a playful selection of popcorn. As the sun beamed overhead, the ceremony unfolded beneath a magnificent floral arch, enchanting attendees with whimsical pastel shades. Cocktail hour was a lively affair, with lawn games such as croquet, tic-tac-toe, Yardzee and cornhole contributing a playful charm to the afternoon. Handheld fans fluttered like colorful butterflies, providing a cool respite from the summer heat. Inside the lodge, the softly colored reception tablescapes were an artful design of glass bud vases and modern ikebana-inspired floral designs, illuminated by the soft glow of colorful pillar candles. The pie station offered a sweet escape, while the outdoor cake cutting cast a magic spell on the evening. A particularly heartwarming detail was the collection of bar napkins, each printed with a love note exchanged between Annie and Mitchell during the early days of their romance. Guests eagerly collected these treasures, a testament to the enduring love shared by the couple. In every detail, from the vibrant florals to the playful games and heartfelt gestures, Annie and Mitchell’s wedding was a true celebration of their love story, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime. —Lizzie Parish

ARIEL & RYAN
Married & Celebrated: PRIVATE ESTATE, SEATTLE
Date: AUGUST 12, 2023
Ariel Merlino and Ryan Mooney’s wedding seamlessly blended the elegance of an Italian villa with the beauty of lakeside Seattle. Set in the bride’s grandparents’ home, the venue was transformed into a scene reminiscent of Italy’s Lake Como, complete with ornate columns and a manicured garden surrounding the ceremony location. Ariel, the creative force behind the event, produced a classic and timeless ambiance with European-inspired details that reflected her heritage and complemented the grandeur of her grandparents’ estate. The color scheme of white and gold was accented by deep green in the invitation suites, harmonizing with the natural surroundings. Artful stationery with a vintage flair, ornate tableware and vineyard chairs set among the stunning columns created a picture-perfect setting. The use of trending baby’s breath in the florals introduced an airiness, particularly in the broken arch ceremony backdrop. The garden, reminiscent of an Italian landscape, provided the perfect backdrop for the all-white florals that adorned the venue. The newlyweds’ cake was a masterpiece, featuring hand-painted floral details in the white, gold and green palette. The highlight of the evening was the cake cutting, with the couple bathed in the light of the golden hour as they stood among the columns, creating a truly magical moment. As the night ended, Ariel and Ryan embarked on a romantic journey, taking their intimate reception on the water as they sailed away on a vintage sternwheeler boat, an unforgettable end to their special day. —Lizzie Parish

ANNA & JERRICK
Married & Celebrated: DOCKSIDE AT DUKE’S, SEATTLE
Date: JUNE 11, 2023
Anna and Jerrick’s love story began as most modern romances do: with a simple “Hey” on a dating site. The couple’s wedding day unfolded beautifully at Dockside at Duke’s, set against the modern cityscape of Seattle and beside the tranquil waters of South Lake Union. Vibrant citrus hues mingled with the bride’s favorite peonies and poppies, making up the day’s palette. Guests were greeted by delightful surprises, including an inviting ice cream cart and a whimsical photo booth bus. A Champagne wall doubled as a creative escort card display, mingling elegance and functionality as it guided guests to their tables with style. The vivid colors—lemon yellow, tangerine orange and lime green—mirrored the couple’s “zest” for life, weaving a lively and cohesive theme. From the citrus-infused invitations to the lemon-adorned ice cream cart florals, every detail popped. The reception also included a friendly musical competition featuring dueling pianos, which entertained attendees to no end. The newlyweds’ passion for travel was artfully incorporated into the celebration, with a globe serving as a guest book, symbolizing the adventures they’ve shared and those yet to come. —Lizzie Parish

Date: MARCH 24,
2023
Hannah Fuchigami and Gunnar Conley’s nuptials kicked off a beautiful new chapter of their life, surrounded by friends and family. The couple first met when Gunnar crashed a Halloween party thrown by one of their mutual friends. Hannah introduced herself, beat him at a few games, and, as they say, “the rest was history.” Prior to the ceremony, the couple exchanged private vows and had their first look at the W.W. Seymour Botanical Conservatory. The wedding venue was brilliantly decorated with dynamic colors, florals and greenery, representing the couple’s desire for a backyard garden vibe. They even used Pantone color swatches, along with other playful signage, as table numbers at the reception. After a beautiful exchange of vows, Hannah surprised her guests at the reception with a dress change and a quick haircut. Details such as hand-painted candles lining the aisle, handwritten messages for each guest, and a temporary-tattoo bar made for a joy-filled day that reflected the couple’s love and appreciation for each other and their guests. “Be thoughtful about the people you want surrounding you on your wedding day,” advises the bride. “They should be the ones who will champion your marriage.” —Lila Swedzinski

A custom neon sign at the bar, reading “When You Wish Upon a Starr,” cleverly incorporated their shared last name, contributing another playful element to the evening. Nate, with his flair for creativity, designed the bar, including a star-themed ice sculpture luge. The wedding cake, painted with gold and pink brushstrokes, was a true work of art. BECCA & CHRIS
Married & Celebrated: FOX HOLLOW FARM, ISSAQUAH
Date: SEPTEMBER 9, 2023
Becca Manning and Chris Lockett’s journey to the aisle was nothing short of an adventure. As they set out to plan their dream wedding, their focus was clear: to create an “elevated earthy” experience that honored their guests (95% of whom traveled to the Seattle area) and showcased the city’s natural beauty in September. The couple’s love for the outdoors significantly influenced their wedding plans. They chose their venue for its lush greenery, private ambiance and picturesque stream running behind the house. “I wanted the wedding décor to feel timeless with a twist. I tried to weave our theme into everything: the flowers, table décor, invitations, our wedding party, the cake and beyond,” Becca explained. The color palette of greens, cream, light pink and burnt orange, along with the garden-esque floral arrangements, created a dreamy atmosphere. Flowers appeared to grow naturally from the forest floor. “My favorite design element was by far my bridesmaid’s dresses. The mixed-matched combination really worked out!” said the bride. As attendees entered the ceremony, they were greeted with welcome drinks adorned with flower petals, setting the tone for a magical day. Following the ceremony, friends and family enjoyed a curated dinner menu served at softly colored tablescapes, which featured low arrangements and tall candles. Becca and Chris shared words of wisdom that may ring true to other laid-back couples: “We didn’t want the wedding to feel fussy or too formal. We recommended guests wear shoes they could thrive in! We wanted the day to be memorable and fun for all.” —Megan Simpson Teeter

BRILLIANA & MICHAEL
Married & Celebrated: BELL HARBOR INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTER, SEATTLE
Date: AUGUST 5, 2023
Inspired by their love of Seattle, Brilliana Hou and Michael Liao celebrated their wedding in style at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center on the city’s waterfront. With guests traveling from various places around the country and overseas to attend, the couple made it a point to have their celebration centrally located in the city. Some of the special details reflecting the wedding’s “Seattle” theme included a coincidental Blue Angels flyby as the bridal party got ready, the walk down the aisle with the iconic Space Needle in the background and the breathtaking views of the city skyline during the ceremony. The wedding’s color palette and floral design featured reds, pinks and creams with accents of chestnut brown and black. Chinese tradition played a significant role in the wedding, such as a performance by lion dancers and a traditional Chinese outfit that Brilliana wore, which had been passed down by Michael’s grandmother and worn by all the married women in his family. The day before the wedding, Brilliana and Michael enjoyed a tea ceremony and dinner with their family and friends at the China Harbor restaurant, making their wedding celebration even more memorable. The couple’s dog, Korra, was there in spirit, her image imprinted on bottles of sweet bubble tea to accompany the desserts, such as the matcha white chocolate chip cookies, one of the bride’s favorites. —Jenny Castro

CASEY & ANDREW
Married & Celebrated: HOOD CANAL VISTA PAVILION, PORT GAMBLE
Date: SEPTEMBER 22, 2023
Casey Eastman and Andrew Krawczyk had a romantic first date at Olympia’s Sofie’s Scoops Gelato, where Andrew tried to convince Casey to try the London Fog gelato because he knew she liked tea. Even though that flavor wasn’t a hit with her, the shop became a favorite, and Sofie’s gelato was a featured late-night dessert at their reception. The ceremony itself incorporated a modern white and green aesthetic to reflect the couple’s love of Pacific Northwest scenery. Choosing an elegant garden theme, Casey and Andrew exchanged their vows on the venue’s sprawling lawn, surrounded by earthy florals and vistas of Hood Canal, and with the late-afternoon sun shining down. Following the ceremony, a string quartet entertained guests as they enjoyed a beautiful cocktail hour at sunset. Guests mingled and played games before moving to a candlelit garden tent for dinner, guided by escort cards found sprouting forth from a planter box of moss and greenery. With details like wedding-themed miniature golf stations and custom cuff links that featured their dogs, Casey and Andrew made sure their wedding was a fun-filled event that showcased their journey as a couple. —Lila Swedzinski

ANDY & VICTOR
Married & Celebrated: SUQUAMISH CLEARWATER CASINO RESORT, SUQUAMISH
Date: SEPTEMBER 9, 2023
Andy Murphy and Victor Infante exchanged their vows underneath a gorgeous willow tree on a lawn overlooking the water. Together for 11 years before their picturesque nuptials took place, the couple first met at a gay bar on Capitol Hill in Seattle and shared their first kiss on the night that same-sex marriage became legal in Washington. The theme of their wedding day was “Studio 54 meets The Great Gatsby,” and the dress code was expertly curated: The grooms wore black tuxedos with matching black feather bow ties, the wedding party wore all white, and the guests dressed in vibrant colors. Andy and Victor achieved their glamorous vision by incorporating details such as white ostrich feathers, gold-painted palm fronds and floating candles throughout the venue. A cocktail hour was held on the lawn following the ceremony; guests then headed to the ballroom for dinner and dancing. Attendees enjoyed a delicious three-course meal, and the newlyweds chose “At Last” by Etta James as their first dance song. After the wedding party performed a fabulously choreographed dance, the couple changed into their second looks of the night. The celebration that followed was one for the books, as the couple and their guests danced the night away to a “classically gay” playlist that included songs by Britney Spears, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga. According to the couple, “The wedding went better than we ever dreamed. It was a perfect day.” —Lila Swedzinski

Haley Hanna and Matthew Baker married at Mountain Springs Lodge, located just outside of Leavenworth. The location was special to Haley as she has fond memories of growing up at a nearby cabin down the road. The beautiful setting allowed the couple to enjoy the refreshing outdoors and enabled their guests to celebrate all weekend along as every lodge on-site was booked specifically for them. Looking lovely in white, the bride was dressed in a classic V-neck gown and wore flowing curls and soft glam makeup for an elegant look. Her bridesmaids were just as glamorous in their floor-length red-orange dresses. The groom looked posh in his all-blue tux and red bow tie, which his groomsmen’s attire matched. KYLIE & JORDAN
Married & Celebrated: THE GOLF CLUB AT NEWCASTLE
Date: SEPTEMBER 16, 2023
Kylie O’Brien and Jordan Richards met a decade ago while studying abroad in Rome, Italy. Their wedding took place at The Golf Club at Newcastle, a beautiful indoor/outdoor venue with a picturesque backdrop overlooking the Cascade Mountains and Lake Washington. Their “Love You Forever” wedding slogan was incorporated throughout the event: sewn into Kylie’s gloves, in the flower wall photo op, and imprinted on the Nike Air Force 1 sneakers the couple changed into for the reception. The wedding followed a classic black and white theme with Italian-inspired details, such as the Aperol spritzes for the welcome drink and homemade limoncello for the wedding favors. The couple read their personal vows, and had Duke, their lovable Bernese Mountain dog, serve as ring bearer. Another detail special to the couple was the repurposing of the wedding gown worn by Kylie’s mom. The dress was remade into a bridal robe for Kylie to wear before the celebration, while she wore a white strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline for the wedding. Sticking with tradition, the groom wore a classic black tux, which stood out against the arrangements of white roses and hydrangeas selected for their classic black-tie affair. —Jenny Castro
