NORTHERN WISCONSIN’S STOUT’S ISLAND —a historic property dating back to 1903—served as a serene backdrop for Brittan and Frederick’s one-of-a-kind wedding weekend, which seamlessly blended natural elements, sustainable practices, and organic charm. For the weekend-long experience, the couple delighted guests with welcome bags, pre-wedding parties, canoe trips, bonfires and cozy cabin accommodations. The intimate atmosphere was brought to life with an earth-toned color palette, weaving through every last detail and infusing a sense of grounding and harmony. A lovely lakeside ceremony was enveloped by trees and sweeping views, while low white and green floral arrangements lined the aisle and complemented the property’s foliage. Guests were then treated to an open-air dining experience before moving into a tented reception to continue the festivities. Dog-lovers and animal rescue advocates Emmylou Hetland and Jerrett Quella made their joyful wedding day even cheerier with their two beloved canine companions, Stella and Olive, in attendance. Adorned in lush botanical collars, these pooches stole the spotlight at the Madison celebration, gracefully walking down the aisle and posing with the bridal party. Instead of kissing in response to the traditional glass-clinking by the guests, the bride and groom swapped smooches in return for donations to the rescue organizations from which they adopted Stella and Olive, Jellystone Bark’s Rescue Rangers and Coconino Humane Association. THE PROS’ GUIDE TO CHANGING YOUR LAST NAME AFTER THE WEDDING
While planning the big day, your focus is mainly on event details, guest lists and your ensemble. However, for anyone who has decided to change their name post-wedding, the “adventure” continues long after the vendors have been tipped and the relatives have departed.
Going into the name change process for the first time, many newlyweds (understandably) have no idea what to expect. Enter Colie Christensen, founder of NewlyNamed, a name change kit service designed to make officiating your new last name a breeze.
Colie details the eight “places” brides and grooms must remember to change their names:
• Social Security
• IRS
• U.S. passport
• Driver’s license
• Voter registration
• Vehicle title & registration
• Professional licenses & certifications
• Personal accounts such as banks, credit unions, credit cards, investment accounts, frequent flyer programs, travel programs (TSA Pre, Global Entry, etc.) and more.
• When couples work with NewlyNamed, Colie notes: “We have 3,000+ companies (personal accounts) in our database that our customers can select and add to their kit. Most select 20 to 30.”
It’s important to begin by updating your name with the Social Security Administration (SSA) by filling out form Form SS-5, the application for a new social security card (can be done by mail or online). This step is foundational because your name officially and legally changes after it’s updated with the SSA and the IRS, making it possible to change your name everywhere else. However, it’s important to mention that even though your name is changed in the SSA system, you’ll still need to update it everywhere else to match.
“Once your name is updated with the SSA, other entities can reference it to confirm your new legal name,” explains Colie. This sets the stage for the next steps in the name change process. After updating your name with the SSA, the following locations typically require attention:
IRS: Changing your name with SSA will update your name with the Internal Revenue Service, however, it’s pertinent to note that you should wait about 10 to 14 days after you change your name with the SSA to file your tax return.
U.S. PASSPORT: Apply for a new passport with your updated name. This usually requires submitting Form DS-11 along with supporting documents like your marriage certificate and current passport.
DRIVER’S LICENSE: Visit wisconsindot.gov and the Department of Transportation to fill out form MV3001. Then, take the completed form to your local DMV to update your driver’s license. You will also need to bring your current license or ID, marriage certificate, proof of residency and,
potentially, proof of name and date of birth. See the website for details.
VOTER REGISTRATION: In Wisconsin, you’ll need to re-register to vote under your new name. Get started at myvote.wi.gov.
VEHICLE TITLE & REGISTRATION: Wisconsin’s DMV will update your title, Confirmation of Ownership or registration automatically when you update your license: it will be reflected upon your renewal. If you’d like the title, Confirmation of Ownership or registration to reflect your new name before your renewal (not mandatory), you can mail in your current title or bring it to the DMV with you, per wisconsindot.gov.
PROFESSIONAL LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: If you hold any professional licenses or certifications, such as a nursing license or teaching certificate, notify the issuing authority of your name change.
PERSONAL ACCOUNTS: Update your name with all personal accounts, including banks, credit unions, credit cards, investment accounts, frequent flyer programs and travel programs like TSA PreCheck and Global Entry.

The words ‘sleek, modern, sophistication with a dash of sexiness’ were at the forefront of every decision made.

INSPIRATION IS OFTEN SERENDIPITOUS , as with this divine design by Heather Farr Events. It began with a black-and-white charger, which Farr discovered while gathering ideas for another client. She knew the modern aesthetic of the Ogee charger from BBJ La Tavola would figure in a future design, and when approached by Amber Bricco of the newly opened Denizen MKE, the idea blossomed. A sophisticated yet sexy palette and vision were born.
Each item was selected to evoke feelings of Old Hollywood, but with a modern feel. “We wanted to choose a gown that looked like liquid satin,” Farr says, “and bold, deep, yet romantic tones in florals, linens and accents.” The “Gracelyn” gown by Jenny Yoo from Miss Ruby Bridal has a timeless air that contrasts with the groom’s black tuxedo and black satin vest and tie. Arrangements of roses, ranunculus, dahlias and poppies in burgundy, burnt orange, dusky rose and gold bring jewel-toned highlights to the venue as well as to the bride’s bouquet and hanging floral installation. The rich tablescape incorporates vibrant tones in the details: pomegranate napkins and deep rose candles in crystal containers, with the edgy charger that started it all flanked by gold-hued flatware.
The color scheme extended to the luxurious stationery suite by Coqui Paperie as well, with simple, deckle-edged invitations employing bold, black type on rich white paper in rose-colored envelopes. Simple elegance is also the hallmark of Greige Patisserie’s cake, a chic, three-tiered confection bearing three stunning, deep burgundy blooms.

Hosted by Relics Rentals as one of their signature pop-up weddings, the day was unique and brimming with intentional, beautiful details—from the intimate wedding ceremony giving vintage feels to a cocktail hour of cake pops, dried florals and specialty drinks. Sunny DeBois of Ebb & Flow Flowers crafted monochromatic bouquets of lush botanicals that effortlessly matched the bride’s gown, “Dahlia” by Monique Lhuillier, featuring a subtle floral pattern. Drawing on many local blooms sourced from Door County and Fox Valley, Sunny incorporated a wealth of flowers including cosmos, poppies and snapdragons. Greenery was foraged from nearby land and later replanted with a Door County resident’s help. These components seamlessly came together to create the ultimate garden-inspired celebration. With a timeless, neutral color palette, these botanical elements made a stunning statement at this al fresco wedding day.

WHEN DREAMING UP A ROMANTIC FALL SCENE , Renee Tantillo of Renee Breanne Design + Co. and a team of seasoned wedding pros sought to mingle elegance, creativity and the beauty of autumn in a unique and memorable way. The color palette played muse for the rest of the day to take shape, leaning in to fall tones like deep burgundy, rich plum, warm taupe and earthy greens to achieve a truly sophisticated vibe.
Cozy, romantic details were aplenty in the décor, from the impeccable stationery suite with hand-painted details to a bridal style that epitomized elegance: the “Brinkley” gown by Colby John, accessorized with drop “Viola” earrings by Untamed Petals. Florals were a study in perfection and minimalism, starting with an altar nest in decadent burgundies and plums—a lovely focal point in front of the outdoor stone fireplace to exchange vows.

A monochromatic bridal bouquet of dramatic dahlias was finished with a fluffy taupe bow, making it a striking accessory foiled against the bride’s white gown. CITYSCAPE WEDDINGS can boast skyline views and a cosmopolitan atmosphere, yet the enchantment of a picturesque woodland wedding proved irresistible to Maeve Plunkett and Ryan Smith. Honoring their teenage meeting place at Camp Smitty in Indiana, the couple’s vision of recreating the camp seemed perfectly fitting. Their closest loved ones embarked on a weekend adventure at Elkhorn’s Camp Wandawega. The camp’s history goes back to the Prohibition era of the 1920s, serving as a speakeasy and a hub for organized crime. While undergoing numerous transformations over the years, today, the grounds offer various retreat experiences, including weddings.
Danielle Horvatin of Rosewood Weddings brought the couple’s dream of a relaxed cottage-core-inspired party to life with a chic two-day event brimming with camp nostalgia. The festivities kicked off with Maeve and Ryan sporting matching tennis attire and warmly welcoming campers to their rehearsal day, filled with cannonballs, canoe races and a waterside BBQ feast.

The wedding day unfolded like a scene from a fairytale. The outdoor chapel ceremony was enchanting, adorned with billowing floral installations of baby’s breath, button daisies and delicate peonies. The bride was a vision of ethereal beauty in her romantic Lihi Hod gown, accompanied by her bridesmaids dressed in green. “I do’s” filled the air with celebration, while guests gathered for the al fresco reception, complete with a sailcloth tent and a black-and-white dance floor. Inspired by the natural surroundings, Sunborn Gardens fashioned a rustic tablescape embellished with moss, rocks and delicate florals atop banquet-style tables, mirroring the bride’s hand-painted candlesticks and paper goods. As the dance floor grew lively, the newlyweds stole a quiet moment in the treehouse to share a slice of their own mini cake. Later, a cozy bonfire, accompanied by a s’more’s charcuterie board, provided the ideal conclusion to their retro camp getaway.

Amanda Lulewicz and Martin Butt met in 2015 while working at a small fashion and tech startup company in San Francisco. While Amanda is a Wisconsin native, Martin grew up in London. Eventually, their close friendship blossomed into love, and the pandemic only brought them closer. The couple chose to host an intimate Sunday brunch for their wedding at The Eloise, an elegant, modern-chic venue where the couple held both the ceremony and reception outdoors. Amanda wore a sleek trumpet-flared couture gown by Vera Wang, adorned with a stylish black bow on her right shoulder, while Martin rocked an all-white suit accented with a black tie and shoes. The black-and-white palette had a pop of hot pink with the matron of honor’s dress, a bright complement to the bridesmaids’ black gowns. For a memorable touch, the couple’s lovable dog, Bo, accompanied Martin as he walked down the aisle (and also greeted Amanda during the ceremony!). A close friend of Martin’s led the nuptials as the couple recited their personal vows to each other. Other highlights of the day included Martin’s best man attending via Zoom, a delectable gluten-free brunch that featured a coffee cart from Café Domestique, and an appearance from the El Grito Taqueria truck to top off the day. The reception also featured activities for guests such as corn hole, dancing, a life-sized photo gallery and a giant crossword puzzle (symbolic of the couple’s daily ritual of completing the New York Times crossword puzzle together). Although some rain showers appeared during the reception, guests’ spirits remained sunny, and the showers were attributed to “happy tears” from Amanda’s father, watching over his daughter-turned-bride from above. — Jenny Castro

Mallory Davis and Adam Deutch had a clear idea of what they wanted their wedding to be: uniquely theirs. From the start, the couple chose the guiding word “striking” to describe the essence of their special day. “It informed all of our decisions for the look, feel and details of the wedding,” Mallory says, “which was modern, minimalist, elegant and monochromatic black and white.” The couple also wanted to have fun. “From the beginning, we wanted the event to be a dinner party that happened to also be a wedding, not the other way around,” Mallory says. The bride surprised her groom with his favorite song, Bob Dylan’s “Boots of Spanish Leather,” as he walked down the aisle. The nuptials wove aspects of Mallory’s Christian upbringing with Adam’s Jewish faith by including Christian and nontraditional readings and the Jewish tradition of breaking a glass at the ceremony’s end. Tradition was also a big part of the bride’s engagement ring, a custom design with a diamond from the groom’s family, the bride’s mother, the bride’s grandmother and a “something new” diamond. The surprises continued during cocktail hour when a magician entertained the guests. Mallory’s parting advice? “Don’t be afraid to break from tradition, and make it fun,” she advises. “Do what you want. Nothing else matters in the end.” — Sherri Hildebrandt

Morgan Sachs and Jonathan Moore’s romance began on a coast-to-coast bicycle trip from Rhode Island to California the summer after they both graduated from college. Jon was the trip leader, and Morgan a novice on the Bike & Build organization’s excursion—the goal of which is to raise awareness for affordable housing. As the miles added up, something clicked. The couple eventually wound up in Wisconsin for Jonathan’s job with Trek Bicycle Corp. They wanted to bring their families together (Jon’s family is from Boston and Morgan’s from St. Louis) to share their love of Madison. Their passion for cycling was evident on their special day in the seating chart, which featured bicycle seats and bike bells that guests rang throughout the reception to celebrate. Creativity was everywhere, from the palette of blue and white, with pops of rusty orange in the men’s neckties and boutonnieres, to the LEGO-themed wedding cake. A wealth of exotic florals—king proteas, dahlias, anthurium and other tropical foliage—was another stunning touch. While Morgan’s dad couldn’t attend because of his health, his spirit was present at the cocktail bar, imagined as a pharmacy counter, to honor his long career as a pharmacist. —Sherri Hildebrandt

Rebecca LaRocque and Michael Discipio met in high school, but the classic high school fairy-tale romance wasn’t to be; it took Michael 13 years to muster up the courage to ask Rebecca out. Since their first date in 2021 at Chicago’s Christkindlmarket, the couple has been almost inseparable. For their dream wedding, Rebecca and Michael chose picturesque LaRocque Farms, a venue owned by Rebecca’s twin brother and wife. Situated on 80 acres, the lovely farm exudes charm and romance and features a gazebo, ponds, scenic hills and organic fruit and vegetable gardens. The wedding featured luscious fall vibes, incorporating golds and bronzes in flower arrangements and décor as well as within the bridal party’s attire. As guests arrived, they were given mini bottles of Champagne before the ceremony, a lovely kickoff to the festivities. A well-trained Blue Heeler dog, Tipsy, had the honor of acting as ring bearer. In preparation for their wedding day, Rebecca and Michael took dance lessons and performed a choreographed number to “First Date” by Blink 182. Guests were treated to a fall farm-to-table-themed dinner featuring an assortment of options, including red wine-braised short ribs, kale salad, goat cheese, honey brittle, roasted butternut squash and an assorted bread basket. Adding to the celebration were lavish desserts such as an Oreo and salted caramel buttercream cake and a customizable s’mores bar. A live band provided entertainment, and lounge seating areas inside and outside the barn gave guests comfy spots to sit back and enjoy. — Jenny Castro

Cheyenne Heindenreich and Stefan Velickovic met years ago through mutual friends, but as their relationship grew, the pandemic loomed. In 2020, Cheyenne had purchased concert tickets for Stefan’s birthday, but those plans were put on hold until 2022. The change in plans didn’t prevent their friendship from blossoming into romance, and as the country opened back up, the two finally made it to the concert. It proved to be a life-changing event: they became engaged that very evening. Inspired by their love of music festivals and EDM, the wedding-day aesthetic focused on plenty of music and dancing, essentially turning the party into a rave—complete with disco balls. Vibrant and playful fall colors of red, orange, gold and burgundy were on display in the bride’s bouquet, the floral décor and guests’ clothing, as well as in the sunburst ceremony display designed and built by the groom. Coinciding with Stefan’s Serbian background, guests wore rosemary boutonnieres crafted with a Serbian flag ribbon, and godparents Kim and Kuma wore sashes to symbolize their importance in Serbian tradition. Incorporated also was the plum brandy “Slivovitz,” which guests sipped on from custom-made casks. Cheyenne wore a chic satin gown with puffed sleeves, while Stefan donned a custom green suit featuring his and Cheyenne’s initials and wedding date embroidered within. For the reception, Cheyenne changed into a stylish fringed, sequined jumpsuit, leaving a lasting impression on her guests and her new husband. — Jenny Castro

Kenzie Boyd and Alec Davenport have a great appreciation for special events—they met at one! The two were working at a wedding venue; she as a planner and he as security during a summer off from his teaching job. Their love blossomed over the next six years as they moved in together, raised Alec’s daughter and got their first puppy. Kenzie’s knowledge and experience as an event planner resulted in a brilliant fall wedding in Door County, replete with leaves in bright shades of red, yellow and orange. “I wanted to take a different approach to the traditional fall wedding,” Kenzie says. “I was striving for a very moody vibe to contrast with Northern Haus’s beautiful white canvas.” Using nontraditional dried florals and grasses (many harvested from her florist’s own garden), Kenzie achieved that look with an assortment including dried brown hydrangeas, broom bloom, dried celosia, white strawflowers, explosion grass, bronze fennel and dried baby’s breath in striking, earthy tones—even dainty bare branches with Spanish moss. Kenzie also planned special interactive food-and-drink experiences to make the occasion more memorable: a Champagne station, build-your-own ice cream sandwiches, an espresso station and a “Sip & Solve” puzzle for guests, with the winner choosing the first dance song of the evening. Tapping into their theme of “an oldfashioned kind of love,” Kenzie and Alec opted to make old-fashioneds in a custom whiskey barrel. “We made our own unique cocktail mix and poured it into the barrel with the intent of the cocktail aging in the barrel over time, just like love gets better with age,” Kenzie says. Parents, grandparents and godparents were also involved in a blessing of the rings before the couple exchanged vows. Advice from Kenzie, as a bride and an event planner? “Don’t lose sight of why you’re doing all of this, and enjoy every small moment along the way with your significant other.”—Sherri Hildebrandt

Two Badger alums came together in a bright and airy celebration at The Edgewater for “I do’s” overlooking Lake Mendota in Madison. Influenced by the French countryside, Alex Topel and Ethan Asher worked with Sarah Sarbacker of Cherry Blossom Events to create the lakeside wedding of their dreams. The color palette was the epitome of summertime elegance featuring shades of blue, hints of mauve and blush tones. The ceremony in the sailcloth tent, adorned with an abundance of greenery and lush white botanicals, was breathtaking. Rattan and cane elements were sprinkled throughout the design for a modern touch, effortlessly adding to the summery mood of the lakeshore vibe. A sunset cocktail hour ensued with several quintessential Wisconsin favorites: cheese curds and Spotted Cow beer. The custom bar supported the theme with cane inserts while the luxe lounge area was the perfect place for guests to enjoy golden hour overlooking the water. The reception space and tablescapes echoed the light, European-inspired vision with rattan chargers, romantic floral arrangements, and sky-blue linens. Guests danced the night away to the live band and enjoyed an iconic UW-Madison dessert of orange custard chocolate chip ice cream from Babcock Dairy Store and a chocolate bourbon espresso confection by The Baked Lab. From start to finish, Alex and Ethan’s soirée was a perfect representation of their chic style, their passion for their alma mater and the city where their love story began. —Sydney Stevens

After meeting on a dating app during the pandemic and knowing early on they were meant to be, Katie Kittredge and Laura Schlenker celebrated their dream wedding in an outdoor ceremony at Boxed and Burlap, a charming coffeehouse that also serves as an event space. Inspired by the outdoors and their love of coffee, the couple specifically chose the fall season to coincide with their nuptials and were delighted by the natural ambiance the colorful fall season provided for their ceremony. Showcasing the color palette in its full expression, Katie’s bridesmaids donned gowns in a terracotta color while Laura’s were dressed in blue—perfectly complementing each other. Personal touches permeated the day, from Katie’s stepfather officiating the wedding to a custom cake topper designed after their beloved Golden Retriever, Dottie. They also wove a string of lace that was used by Katie’s mother and grandmother in their respective bouquets. For the couple’s cocktail hour, guests were treated to appetizers around cozy fire pits, and dinner was served in Boxed and Burlap’s barn. Grace Druml and Keegan O’Connor took full advantage of the idyllic scenery at The Carriage House at Lac La Belle in Oconomowoc for their wedding. With the couple’s shared affinity for lakes and the outdoors, Events to a T and Jane Kelly Floral delivered a stylish soirée with earthy details, lush, green foliage and white blooms. The bride opted for a timeless look, donning a strapless A-line gown accessorized with a statement cathedral-length veil featuring floral appliques, which flawlessly matched the ethereal theme of the day. Grace and Keegan shared a sentimental first look amid blooming hydrangeas and exchanged private vows before “I do’s.” The ceremony was picture-perfect as the pair became husband and wife under a vast tree surrounded by loved ones and a floral-lined aisle. Guests found their reception seat assignment on the “Life is Better at the Lake” escort display featuring a faint landscape drawing as the background with lakes the couple has visited together as table numbers. Bringing the outdoors inside, tables in The Carriage House were artfully decorated with grand botanical arrangements, stunning green and white linens, and emerald-colored glassware, while pendant chandeliers and lit candles offered an ambient glow.
