EXPRESS YOURSELF
CO NGRATS! We’re so glad you’re joining us here to find your inspiration in these vibrant and lively pages. This is truly an incredible time to be engaged, with so many different wedding day options awaiting you. Bold and bright, unconventional and whimsical, or classic and chic—this issue is brimming with it all. And lucky for you, the old standard of seasonality is no longer applicable—all that matters is what you want!
At Wisconsin Bride, our goal is simply to inspire everyone, regardless of who you love, where you’re from or what you look like. The photo shoots and weddings in this issue are just a tiny sample of the eye-catching locations and out-of-this-world originality that this wonderful state has to offer, and just a small glimpse into its diverse and powerful wedding community and that includes the wedding professionals, of course, and you, the newly engaged couple.
And, when the time comes, we encourage you to share your wedding with us as well. Much of the stunning imagery on our pages comes from real people with real stories, just like you. While we wish we had room to share more of them, we do appreciate every single one that we receive. Will yours be the next real wedding we feature, or maybe even win next year’s award for Editor’s Pick for Best Dressed? (Scan the QR code below for details on how to submit your wedding.)
Speaking of awards, drumroll please: the winners of The Best of 2023 are here! Check out the list on page 60 and get a head start on creating your own vendor team with this tried-and-true roster of wedding professionals, businesses and creatives who have been voted the top of the industry.
And finally, while I love all of the shoots we work on, I have to admit that I’m feeling a little more emotionally invested in one in this issue. Be sure to read all about the surprise ending to “An Air of Debonair” shoot on page 40!
Cheers to you, and to creating a wedding day that is unapologetically, authentically you!

COLOR AND CREATIVITY
POP THE BUBBLY — we have so much to celebrate! Newly engaged couples, congratulations!
We are so excited you are here. It warms my soul to see the creativity and authenticity in this issue. Vibrant colors are back, and that bright, bold wedding you have been dreaming of is about to happen.
Danielle Horvatin from Rosewood Events designed and executed a fabulous concept for a photo shoot at The Starling in Milwaukee (page 40). Among some really amazing wedding professionals was the team from Flowers for Dreams, who took the floral vibe to the next level. It’s the tropical, earthy, edgy combination we have all been waiting for. The best part?
A surprise marriage proposal at the end of the day! Congratulations to Savion and Caleb, and many thanks for letting us be a part of that special moment, one we will never forget.
Another inspiring shoot took place at The Treasury in Delavan, the perfect backdrop for Allison Eberhardt from Et Voila’s vision of Pantone color of the year, Viva Magenta. Allison is truly inspirational and creative. Her vision was brought to life thanks to the help of so many fabulous wedding professionals. I mean, come on , Buds ‘n Bloom—those flowers are incredible!
In these pages you’ll also find the finalists and winners of Best of 2023. These are the wedding professionals chosen by you, our readers, as the best of the best Wisconsin has to offer. I want to thank everyone nominated for sharing your talents, products and awesome skills and congratulate the winners for their outstanding work.
Another fun fact about this issue: Two of our very own wedding pros tied the knot last fall! See pages 100 (Jessica) and 102 (Amber) on their newlywed stories. It is so much fun to see your special love stories in print. A big congrats to you both!
Cheers to love, always!

NEWS AND NOTES FOR THE NEARLY WED.
DARK SPLENDOR
STEP OUTSIDE TRADITION with this striking setup at GATHER at Deer District in Milwaukee. The designers incorporated a twist on classic romantic elements, including a black wedding gown instead of the perennial white—one of several bold contrasts to this sunlit space.
1. CRIMSON NOTES
The bride’s brilliant red lip is the perfect pop of color, matching the glorious scarlet blooms in her bouquet. Dramatic eye makeup adds an element of mystery.
2. A STANDOUT
The groom brings his own vibrant style to the day’s festivities, with a snappy bow tie for a retro note.
3. BRIGHT BLOSSOMS
An unstructured bouquet from Blythe in Bloom includes red, white and deep pink roses and dianthus, flowers that symbolize love and affection.
4. REGAL STYLE
The bride is simply stunning in this Ti Adora “Kelly” gown by Allison Webb, from Miss Ruby Boutique. The A-line gown of embossed floral sateen features a modified sweetheart neckline and chapel-length train. Showy butterfly sleeves can be worn on or off the shoulder.
5. UNDERSTATED GLAM
The timeless elegance of gold appears in the background, seen through soaring windows. In the foreground, gilt pillars display the aisle arrangements, a perfect foil for the bounty of lush florals.
6. A LITTLE FUN
The bride lets her quirky side shine in whimsical sunnies.

KALINA & CO
Looking for a heartfelt memento for your bridal party? Join the trend of permanent bracelets with Kalina & Co. Jewelry.
A welded “Forever Bracelet” can be a lasting symbol of friendship, love, commitment or more. Each bracelet is custom fit and microwelded to be a permanent part of your individual style. The bracelets are gold-filled or sterling silver and come in a range of styles, from dainty chain links to thicker, more elaborate designs.
“The wedding day is my favorite event to style!” says owner Kalina Eichstaedt. “The special couple gets to pick out their custom jewelry for their big day, and then all of the party will have these beautiful mementos from the day of their wedding.”
Eichstaedt is available for wedding showers and bachelorette parties, as well. Guests can pick from the 45 options that Kalina & Co. offers. Prices range from $50 to $150, but depend on style, metal type and thickness. Additional charms, gemstones and monograms can be added to a bracelet for an additional cost (around $15 to $30 per piece). While there is no maximum for a party, the minimum is four people.
Clients can arrange bookings on Kalina & Co.’s website or call Eichstaedt directly. She will travel up to an hour for free, charging $15 for every additional 15 minutes. Small parties can be booked within two weeks but for a larger party, she recommends booking at least a month in advance. And her space needs are minimal: She just needs about four chairs and a 4- to 6-foot table and electricity.

MAKE A STATEMENT
DENIZEN MKE“Entertain something different.” That’s the goal—and the catch-phrase—of Denizen MKE, a new Milwaukee venue slated to start hosting events in October.
Denizen MKE will “give couples an authentic, stress-free day,” says co-owner Amber Bricco. This unique indoor/ outdoor venue is women- and LGBTQ-owned and has a capacity of up to 150 guests. Denizen will offer full planning options as well as day-of setup and cleanup. Couples can choose décor items, tableware, ceremony installations and more from one of Denizen’s five collections: the Nightingale, the Creative, the Timeless, the Free Spirit and the Woodland.
From black, wooden-beaded chandeliers to a woodland accent wall, this venue will “give a bold statement while giving a neutral backdrop for couples to customize,” Bricco says. The space will have a patio and lounge with an outdoor setting large enough to host ceremonies and cocktail hours.
Located across the street from Washington Park in the Martin Drive neighborhood and eight minutes from downtown, photo ops abound. The park has a wildflower garden, lagoon, bridges and a bandshell that, according to Bricco, “mimics the art deco architecture found in the venue.”
Denizen has a list of preferred vendors and will allow outside vendors starting in 2024. @denizenmke —Adriana Dominguez-Nelson *

AN AIR OF DEBONAIR
STRONG, SULTRY COLORS AND TORRID FLORALS CREATE A VIBRANT MOOD AT THE STARLING.
The dashing duo, Caleb (left) and Savion are the epitome of elegance in their seasonally hued suits –– Savion’s a black and green floral tuxedo jacket custom-made by NL Suits, Caleb’s a burgundy suit from Express. Resplendent arrangements by Flowers for Dreams surround them in tones and textures that transport us to lands of sun and sand.

“The floral colors were chosen based on the venue’s unique glass details,” says Drew Hawley of Flowers for Dreams on the striking backdrop behind the smitten couple.
An invitation suite by Lettered by Shi hints at adventures ahead with tropical motifs in moody tones of rust and sage and a hint of modern calligraphy on the envelope.
Winter weddings in Wisconsin don’t have to stay in a small box. We can explore tropical foliage and whimsical blooms, and with so much texture and movement, these floral pieces really brought this shoot to life.

And what better way to end a photo shoot than with a real love story? Making the most of an amazingly romantic day, the entire team helped Savion carry out a surprise proposal.
Before wrapping up, photographer Santiago Murillo and videographer Danielle Chaviano told Caleb they were going to get a “first look” shot. In a moment that Savion describes as a “roller coaster of emotions,” Caleb turned to Savion, preparing to fake a first look, and found Savion on bended knee!
Congrats, Caleb and Savion! Our team is so lucky to have witnessed your proposal, and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for both of you *

—Emma EstebBEST EVENT DESIGN ORANGE DOOR WEDDINGS
Playing off the light and airy ambiance of a tented wedding under the Harvest Moon, planner Summer Snyder of Orange Door Weddings elevated this event to a whole new level with the use of mirrors. “I loved the way we were able to really envelope them in this glamorous garden,” says Snyder. From the aisle to the tablescapes to the cake display, the reflection created by the mirrored surface creates an almost larger-than-life atmosphere.
The shimmer of the mirrors paired with a multitude of sparkling crystal chandeliers and a neutral floral color scheme creates a multifaceted vision to behold. @orangedoorweddings

SOME OF OUR FAVORITE MOMENTS FROM THE YEAR IN WEDDINGS
BY MEGAN WHITEBEST CAKE
WHISK CHICK
“With this cake, I wanted to tie in some really classic wedding cake elements with a modern twist, and I love the look of one unique tier tied into the bigger, more classic piece,” says MK Drayna, Whisk Chick. Covered in fondant and decorated with intricate handmade individual fondant leaves and an asymmetrical floral texture organically blossoming up one side of it, this cake masters blending the classic, white-tiered style with a contemporary touch. @whisk.chick
BEST DRESSED ISABELLA JORGENSEN
‘Tis the season for accessories—especially those that are pearladorned! Isabella Jorgensen let her personality shine in fun, heart-shaped Lele Sadoughi shades with pearl bedecked temples and a Hair of the Dog headband with pearls floating in fluffy tulle. Her custom gown by Eva Lendel ties it all together with a big, bold bow on the back––and like kismet, dainty white daisies in the fields of Northern Haus made a cameo to perfect the backdrop of this carefree portrait. @northernhaus, @lele_sadoughi, @hairofthedog.scrunchies, @evalendel
BEST CATERING IDEA
TALL GUY AND A GRILL
Tall Guy and a Grill doesn’t shy away from creativity, neither in flavor nor in presentation. Made for their annual Farm-to-Table Dinner which was held at Mapleton Barn, these PBR braised mussels with house-made pickled, local Calabrian chili, garlic oil and herbs served in quirky anchovy tins were the perfect passed appetizer at an evening of celebrating local ingredients and Wisconsin’s hospitality industry. @tallguyandagrill
BEST HAIRSTYLE BEAUT BY GEMMA
If given the opportunity to add a little more sparkle to your big day—go for it! The latest hair trend of topping off an updo with a dusting of glitter is just what we needed, and this iridescent aquamarine is giving some serious mermaid vibes. @beautbygemma
BEST FLORAL DESIGN DAFFODIL*PARKER
Sometimes, less is more, and this minimalist display of florals by daffodil*parker is just right. Making the bride’s “modern romantic” vision a reality, daffodil*parker focused on botanicals in rich, deep tones of purple and burgundy with the occasional burst of red. By not using filler florals or greenery, the moody and ethereal personalities of each bloom stood out in singularity. And to make the centerpieces even more memorable, the test tube-like bud vases were shown to perfection in wooden stands handmade by the groom’s brother. “He did such an incredible job, and it was unlike anything I had ever seen at a wedding before,” says bride Katrina Ervin. @daffodilparker
“We wanted to do something that perfectly encapsulated how we met, how we’ve grown together, and both of our passions—something full of adventure!” says Maria Clymer of her hot air balloon elopement with Aron Clymer. Letting their love soar above Stillwater, the two were wed mid-air, with O & B Photo Co along to capture it all. “Our style of photography was the perfect fit for their elopement, because we’re seekers of raw emotions, genuine reactions and authentic interactions,” says Olivia McCracken of O & B Photo Co. @oandbphotoco

WHAT COULD BE MORE REFRESHING THAN AN EXQUISITELY CHIC WEDDING IN THE PRISTINE VENUE OF SISTER BAY’S NORTHERN HAUS? DESIGNER RENEE TANTILLO KEEPS IT COOL WITH A CAREFULLY CURATED PALETTE WITH ROMANTIC FLOURISHES — AND PLENTY OF PIZAZZ.
Presenting the happy couple, who make their entrance in the light-filled environs of Northern Haus, featuring 36-foot ceilings and exposed beams. Accompanied by her groom in a refined black suit, our bride is the picture of nuptial loveliness in an off-the-shoulder Monique Lhuillier gown with discreet ruffle and flowing train. In her bouquet by Atmospheric Floral, a selection of garden roses with soft peaches for a hint of color, set off by the airy texture of oregano foliage, sea star fern, sea oats and smoke bush make a statement of serene splendor.
(this page) Après “I do,” let the fun begin. Northern Haus’ new mobile bar brings the bubbly and other beverages to you for a reception on the venue’s 20 acres of meadows, rolling hills and forest. Our bride takes the sophistication up a notch in a sleek Monique Lhuillier sheath for cocktail hour.
(top right) Why is this man smiling? It could be because it’s the happiest day of his life, but maybe the boutonniere — which includes dried nigella pod, lunaria, smoke bush, and creme brûlée phlox — gives him a little something extra to light up the day.
(middle right) It’s sheer elegance from A to R in a refined serif font, paired with custom calligraphy by Lettered by Shi, sweetly bound with subtle sage bows.
(bottom right) Dark chargers and cutlery plus aubergine florals and goblets of red wine add drama to the table, while the sage green ribbon accent echoes the delicate florals.

Wedding: SEPTEMBER 24, 2022 Ceremony: ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST, GREEN BAY
Reception: ONEIDA COUNTRY CLUB, GREEN BAY Honeymoon: GERMANY & GREECE
As a wedding industry pro, Jessica Bedore, wedding photographer and owner of Tie the Knot Bridal Boutique, has seen it all. Still, she says nothing compares to the perfect proposal and surprise vineyard party with family and friends that the love of her life, Andrew Van Gorden, pulled off. Their autumn nuptials began at St. John the Evangelist, where they were the third generation in Jessica’s family to be wed there. Her 96-year-old grandma not only attended but celebrated what would have been her 73rd wedding anniversary. “The moment I walked down the aisle was surreal,” Jessica says. “Just being in our church that has so much history in our family and being surrounded by our loved ones was such an unforgettable experience.” Jessica and Andrew created a dream team of wedding professionals, including friends and colleagues; inspired by the food, architecture and colors of their European trips, the couple incorporated their favorite details from Tuscany. Ebb & Flow Flowers and Alliey & Co. achieved their vision with olive branches, travertine stone vases and Italian-style chairs at the Oneida Country Club, creating a warm and romantic ambience. Guests enjoyed mini charcuterie boards, bread, balsamic vinegar and olive oil at their tables, adding to the European vibe. “The entire day was everything we always dreamt of, and we were so happy with the memories we made,” Jessica says.

AMBER & NATHAN
Wedding: SEPTEMBER 30, 2022
Ceremony: VILLA TERRACE DECORATIVE ARTS MUSEUM, MILWAUKEE
Reception: JAN SERR STUDIO, MILWAUKEE Honeymoon: CANCUN, MEXICO
“Someday I’m going to marry that guy,” Amber Kowalski recalls telling her best friend when she met Nathan Showers while bartending at Milwaukee club No.720 in 2009. That prediction came true when the couple wed at Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum. Though located on Lake Michigan, guests felt like they were transported to the Italian coast with the historical European feel of the venue. The abundant florals reflected the dark and moody theme of the day, featuring bold burgundy blooms with touches of orange and green. Amber was stunning in her long-sleeved lace dress as she came down the aisle with her uncle. “Although we had 200 people attend, when I walked down the aisle, it felt like it was just Nate and I standing there in that moment,” the bride recalled. The celebration continued at Jan Serr Studio, with centerpieces made from piping and dark linens on the guest tables complementing the industrial reception space. The head table was illuminated with 50 candles, which Amber describes as “absolutely magical.” For their wedding cake, adorned with “’Til Death Do Us Part,” the newlyweds used the same knife to cut the confection that Nate’s parents had used at their wedding 52 years ago. “I remember looking around to see all of our friends and family mingling, laughing and dancing,” Amber says, “and it was such a special feeling seeing all of our loved ones in one place to celebrate us.”

CHELSEA & AUSTIN
Wedding: SEPTEMBER 10, 2022
Ceremony & reception: PRIVATE RESIDENCE, SPARTA Honeymoon: BAHAMAS
Chelsea Lovejoy and Austin Reinhart’s modern-day love story started when both swiped right on Tinder in 2018. By the time Austin met Chelsea’s son, it was clear they were going to spend the rest of their lives together. Their glamorous autumn nuptials took place at her family’s property—the same place where Austin had proposed. A palette of neutrals mixed with greenery achieved the light and airy feel they were aiming for at their al fresco affair, and the mirrored aisle and dazzling chandeliers added the perfect glam element. Before the ceremony, Chelsea and Austin shared a couple-only first look, followed by a first look with their two boys. “Having that moment with our little family is something I will never forget,” the bride says. Guests were welcomed to the cocktail tent with cocktail napkins bearing images of the couple’s dog, Murphy, and cat, Willow. Deer antlers on the table nodded to Austin’s passion for hunting, while crystals, a particular love of Chelsea’s, decorated the cake and the head table. The full harvest moon was incorporated into the décor with moon-shaped menus and a moon backdrop that made a perfect photo-op. The reception tent was festooned with verdant vines, and string lights and chandeliers cast a warm glow over the night of celebration.

NATALIE & CHRISTIAN
Wedding: SEPTEMBER 9, 2022
Ceremony: ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, MADISON
Reception: THE ELOISE, MT. HOREB Honeymoon: HAWAII
When Natalie Cheung and Christian Maravilla met through mutual friends in 2018, they quickly felt a special connection. “Christian always tells me that he remembers looking over at me and thinking to himself, ‘I could see myself with this girl in the future,’” Natalie says. Tradition was the theme of their celebrations, starting a week prior to the wedding with a traditional Laotian ceremony to recognize part of the bride's heritage, to which she wore a handmade sinh dress from Laos. For the big day, she wore a handmade cheongsam , a traditional Chinese dress, and festivities included the Chinese tea ceremony in celebration of her ancestry and a cord and veil ritual to honor the groom's Filipino culture. Natalie knew she wanted to incorporate her love for chinoiserie into the overall design, and planner Ashley Kuehnal brought the bride’s vision to life with a blue and white palette with touches of gold and pink. With Natalie’s only request for florals to be “soft and romantic with hydrangeas,” the couple was delighted when they saw 1209 Creative’s refined garden-style arrangements filling the reception space. Although their day was full of special moments, Christian’s favorite was seeing Natalie come down the aisle: “I realized just how lucky I am to be able to go through life with her by my side,” he says. As a surprise for guests, the newlyweds coordinated a traditional Chinese lion dance performance to end the night and bring good luck and prosperity to the family.

ANNA & JACK
Wedding: SEPTEMBER 9, 2022
Ceremony: CHURCH OF THE GESU, MILWAUKEE Reception: THE PRITZLAFF BUILDING, MILWAUKEE Honeymoon: MEXICO
Anna and Jack’s classic love story began when the two briefly met in Lake Geneva at the National Italian Invitational Golf Tournament in which Jack was participating. After Anna’s Cinderella-esque exit, Jack finally got Anna’s information from fellow attendees. Shortly after meeting, the two met up for oysters and bubbly for their first date in downtown Milwaukee. The proposal two years later was just as classy as their first date, in a surprise visit to her parents’ house with a crackling fire in the hearth, champagne on ice and Frank Sinatra playing in the background. Their September wedding weekend included multiple nods to Anna and Jack’s Italian backgrounds, starting at the welcome party, where guests enjoyed a spread of Italian food and wine followed by a bocce ball tournament.
After the traditional Catholic ceremony, guests were welcomed to the Pritzlaff Building with mini bottles of limoncello that doubled as wedding favors, made by the bride, her mother and mother-in-law. Cocktail hour in the cobblestone courtyard featured grills full of oysters, Italian sausage and vegetables, just like an Italian street festival. The bride likes to make charcuterie trays when she’s entertaining, so each table featured an antipasto spread. “I wanted guests to feel like they were invited over for a dinner party,” Anna says. The newlyweds sat in a loveseat at the head table with their siblings. “We loved that we could be close together during dinner and speeches while looking out at all our family and friends,” Jack says. In lieu of a traditional cake, guests noshed on Italian cookies made by the bride’s aunts and the groom’s godmother, served on wooden rounds from a tree in the bride’s childhood backyard.

LAUREN & JEFFERSON
Wedding: SEPTEMBER 17, 2022
Ceremony & reception: WHISPERING PINES LODGE, EAGLE RIVER
Honeymoon: SPAIN, PORTUGAL AND ITALY
Honoring their love for the outdoors and how they met, Lauren Flood and Jefferson Hankins chose a lakeside retreat on the shores of Eagle River for their small wedding. The two met during a cabin weekend planned by mutual friends, where they spent time canoeing and chatting by the campfire. Jeff trekked from Milwaukee to Madison to take Lauren on their first date at Monona Terrace; two years later, he popped the question at the same spot. The ceremony was the definition of up-north Wisconsin beauty, with the lake as a backdrop and an arch made by Jeff’s dad. The friends who introduced the couple participated in the ceremony, with one officiating and the other doing a reading. Their five nieces were flower girls, while Jeff’s nephew served as ring bearer. Although he’s reluctant to admit it, Jeff shed a few tears when he saw Lauren walk down the aisle in a stunning tulle gown with floral appliqués. After the ceremony, Lauren and Jeff hopped in a canoe to enjoy the lake, just as they did the day they met. At day’s end, Lauren’s mom surprised the couple with a dessert table of their favorite treats, featuring a macaron tower topped with a delicious homemade cake.

PANG & DOMENICO
Wedding: SEPTEMBER 24, 2022
Ceremony & reception: MABEL TAINTER THEATER, MENOMONIE Honeymoon: NEW YORK CITY
Pang Zong and Domenico Marzovilla’s romance started as an OkCupid success story. “Our first date was at a now-defunct feminist bookstore,” Pang recalls. “He didn’t pay for my 50-cent coffee and schooled me on the best way to eat ramen. I was intrigued.” Four years later, a nervous Domenico asked Pang for her hand in marriage as they were birdwatching. Knowing they wanted to be married in a historical venue, the Victorian-era Mabel Tainter Theater was the perfect fit, and even matching Pang’s Belle Époque-inspired engagement ring. During the ceremony, the newlyweds paid homage to their families’ backgrounds by watering an azalea bonsai that contained soil from the bride’s childhood home in Wisconsin and the groom’s parents’ hometowns in Croatia and Italy. Their palette of terra cotta, mauve and rose complemented the vintage colors and textures of the theater with hand-painted gold walls and peach opera seats. Runners in alternating colors of terra cotta and vintage rose, thrifted brass candlesticks, an assortment of vases filled with dried florals and glass cloches filled with mineral and crystal specimens bedecked the tables. Global-inspired food was a main culinary focus, with pupu platters served at cocktail hour and international cuisine at the candlelit dinner. For keepsakes, the couple, who share an interest in mineralogy, gave out crystal specimens in personalized muslin bags, along with apple-filled doughnuts in the shape of Wisconsin with a heart sprinkle marking Menomonie.

KATRINA & COLIN
Wedding: OCTOBER 28, 2022
Ceremony & reception: THE TINSMITH, MADISON
Honeymoon: (PLANNED) GREECE OR SCOTLAND
On an unseasonably warm fall day—“The sun was shining, and it couldn’t have been more perfect,” Katrina Ervin recalls—she and Colin Camp wed. The Tinsmith was the ideal locale for them: close to their home, dog-friendly so their two pups could attend and replete with a stunning solarium filled with plants. Their modern romantic theme inspired a palette of varying shades of purple and burgundy with pops of red for an added edgy touch. The bride wore a romantic A-line gown with off-the-shoulder sleeves, finishing her look with a bold bouquet of dark blooms. Each bridesmaid carried a bouquet of a single variety of a flower in the bridal bouquet and wore a gown in one of the hues of the day. Karina and Colin said their “I do’s” as Colin’s sister officiated. “Having someone we love so much perform the ceremony made our day all the more special,” Katrina says. Tables at the reception also had a personalized detail: wooden vases made by Colin’s brother. Another very special treat: Katrina owns an ice cream shop, so guests could choose between “his” and “hers” ice cream flavors, and in a nod to Katrina’s German roots, a favorite family cake called frankfurter kranz made with "hers" ice cream was also served.

MADELEINE & KEVIN
Wedding: SEPTEMBER 24, 2022
Ceremony: ST. BENEDICT’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, FONTANA
Reception: GENEVA NATIONAL RESORT, LAKE GENEVA
Honeymoon: MEXICO
It was love at first sight for Madeleine Sherrier when she saw Kevin Reddington the day she started at Northwestern Mutual in 2017. What began as a strong friendship turned into a romantic connection when she came to his aid after his car was stolen. That’s when they realized there was something special between them. Not only did they share a strong love of family and shared Irish heritage, a passion for boating and movie quotes, but they also realized that they could count on one another in times of need and could make each other laugh when times get tough. Four years later, Kevin proposed on a boat ride on Memorial Day weekend on Lake Geneva, Madeleine’s favorite spot; it only made sense that the lake would be part of their wedding day. Madeleine paired her sleek gown with a pair of gloves designed by a friend who took floral appliqués and beading from the bride’s mother and mother-in-law’s veils, the perfect “something borrowed.” “They are one of my favorite things I own to this day,” Madeleine says. Their Ralph Lauren-inspired cocktail hour featured plaids, dark colors and leather furniture overlooking the resort’s perfectly manicured golf course. The ballroom featured abundant candlelight, with florals including baby’s breath, white hydrangeas and orchids. Bagpipes played throughout the day and the couple included an Irish song at the reception, which prompted everyone to gather and dance the night away. *

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS
IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY TO START PLANNING. FOLLOW THESE STEPS AND YOU’LL BE WELL ON YOUR WAY TO MATRIMONIAL BLISS.
FIRST THINGS FIRST:
Tell friends and family. Set the date.
Choose the type of wedding you want (formal, semi-formal, informal; which season). Set a wedding budget and decide who will be able to contribute and how much. Visit, choose and book your ceremony and reception sites.
Pick a photographer/videographer. Have engagement photos taken. Start shopping for your gown. Start working on your guest list. Arrange for both sets of parents to get together.
9 TO 12 MONTHS BEFORE:
Sign up for any pre-marital counseling or classes.
Announce your engagement in local newspapers, if desired. Choose your wedding party members. Arrange the first meeting with your minister, priest, rabbi or officiant and wedding planner (if using one).
Throw an engagement party. Gather wedding inspiration. Start a Pinterest board. Search magazines and websites for ideas. Begin adding the names of vendors and their contact information into a master contact list.
6 TO 9 MONTHS BEFORE:
Select a caterer. Choose a baker, schedule cake tastings. Order your gown and schedule fittings (remember to bring your shoes). Shop for bridesmaid dresses. Hire a florist. Book a band/DJ.
Start researching honeymoon spots. Finalize the guest list. Book a stationer (and calligrapher, if using one).
Mail save-the-date cards. Purchase your shoes, headpiece, jewelry and lingerie for the big day.
Book hair and makeup artists for the big day. Reserve event necessities. Book portable toilets for outdoor events, extra chairs, linens, lighting and so on.
Start making a day-of timeline, determining what should happen when (speeches, first dance, etc).
Book a block of hotel rooms near the reception site for out-of-town guests. Register for gifts at two to three places. Start to keep track of favorite songs.
4 TO 6 MONTHS BEFORE:
Order all wedding stationery (invitations, envelopes, thank-you notes) and work out pricing for programs, menus and place cards, which will be printed closer to the date. Hire wedding-day transportation. Book flights and hotel reservations for your honeymoon.
Arrange the rehearsal dinner. Schedule any beauty treatments (brow-waxing, facials, teeth-whitening) that you’d like to have done before the wedding. Send a guest list to the host of your bridal shower.
Order passport, if necessary. Purchase wedding rings; order engraving. Remind mother and mother-in-law to start shopping for their dresses.
2 TO 4 MONTHS BEFORE:
Order the suits for the groom and groomsmen. Meet with the caterer or facility manager to discuss menus, wine selections, serving style, etc. Choose and order wedding favors and welcome baskets, if desired.
Order the wedding cake.
Meet with your officiant to discuss your ceremony; invite loved ones to perform readings, if appropriate.
Choose songs for the ceremony and reception. Buy thank-you gifts for your attendants. Confirm group hotel rates for out-of-town guests.
Book your pre-wedding and wedding-night hotel.
Finalize your honeymoon plans. Send invitations to the calligrapher if you’re using one.
Plan your bachelorette party with your attendants.
Send a day-of timeline to your vendors so they’ll have ample time for tweaks and feedback.
Sign up for dance lessons, if desired.
1 TO 2 MONTHS BEFORE: Mail invitations.
Do a hair and makeup run-through (with headpiece).
Meet with the caterer to finalize a menu. Send programs, menus and escort cards to the stationer to be printed (if not using a calligrapher).
Send your wedding announcement to local newspapers, if desired. Write thank-you notes as you receive gifts. Maintain a list of all presents received and thank-yous written.
2 TO 4 WEEKS BEFORE:
Plot the seating for the reception. Confirm times with all vendors. Have your final dress fitting. Write your rehearsal dinner toast. Compose your vows, if desired. Visit the salon for one last cut and color. Send escort cards and the seating chart to your calligrapher to fill in guests’ names and table numbers.
Enter RSVPs into a guest-list database, and call invitees who haven’t yet responded. Get your marriage license. If you’re changing your name, order several extra copies. If changing your name, make arrangements with Social Security, Department of Motor Vehicles, credit card companies and your bank. Mail the rehearsal dinner invitations, if applicable.
Stock the bar using your final head count as a guide. Send out as many final vendor payments as you can.
Provide addresses for drivers of transport vehicles.
Create a must-take “shot list” and discuss it with your photographer.
1 WEEK BEFORE:
Compile the fees that will be due on the wedding day.
Give the caterer a final head count. Appoint a reliable pal to transport the cake knife, toasting glasses, etc. to and from the reception site.
Get final beauty treatments (facial, waxing, brow-shaping, etc.).
Pack for the honeymoon. Ask someone to bring your luggage to the reception if you’re leaving from there.
Give your honeymoon itinerary to a friend or family member in case of emergency. Pick up your dress or make arrangements for it to be fetched or delivered.
Arrange for the cake to be delivered to the reception venue.
Buy a guest book, if you choose to use one. Delegate small wedding-day tasks: someone to carry your things; someone to bustle your dress; someone to manage the gifts; someone to hand out tips; and so on.
Send a timeline to the bridal party, including every member’s contact information. Break in your shoes.
Assemble and distribute welcome baskets to out-of-town guests, if desired. Pick up wedding rings, check engravings and sizes.
Remind men to pick up formalwear and shoes, and check them for fit.
If you don’t have a personal attendant, ask a friend to help you get dressed on the big day. Talk to head usher about any special seating arrangements.
Arrange for a light snack for the wedding party to eat while getting ready for the ceremony.
LAST 24 HOURS:
Help decorate the venue, if necessary. Have a manicure, pedicure and any other last-minute pampering treatments. Distribute thank-you gifts to the wedding party, special attendants and parents. Organize for a note or gift to be delivered to your fiancé on the wedding day.
Take a relaxing bath, go to bed early and start getting excited. You’re about to get married! *
