Getting Started Prior to applying for admission to IRSC, consult the IRSC Catalog at irsc.edu for admission criteria.

Apply in Five Steps

1. Complete the Application and the Florida Residency Declaration at irsc.edu. 2. Request official high school and postsecondary transcripts. 3. Apply for financial aid. 4. Access MyPioneerPortal and complete all onboarding steps. 5. Meet with an advisor and register for classes. For assistance, call 1-866-792-4772, or visit your nearest campus.

Transferring Credit to IRSC As part of the admissions process, incoming students must provide IRSC with official transcripts. Student Success personnel will enter eligible coursework into the student record. Students can work with an advisor to determine if transferred coursework meets equivalency for their selected pathway.

Military Credit All military training, experience or coursework that is recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE) will be evaluated if the student provides IRSC with a transcript of that training or coursework and if the credit is applicable to the student’s degree or certificate program.

Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) Indian River State College may grant course credit for students who have acquired knowledge equivalent to college credit through work, experience or prior knowledge. PLA is an excellent option for working adults, active-duty military and veterans, experienced volunteers or anyone who has acquired collegelevel knowledge to earn college credit. The Institute for Cold Case Investigation (ICCI) is an applied-learning initiative that gives students enrolled in the IRSC Criminal Justice Bachelor’s Degree program real-world experience as they work with local law enforcement agencies toward resolutions on open, unsolved criminal investigations. The Institute is the first of its kind for a college or university in Florida and the only higher-education-led cold case investigation institute in the southeastern United States.

Digital Media

Graphic Design and Visual Communication Concentration Express your creativity and gain a competitive advantage in the multifaceted graphic, web, social media design and visual communication industries by studying Digital Media at IRSC and earning your Bachelor of Applied Science Degree. As an IRSC Digital Media student, you will develop your own body of work, reflecting strength in corporate identity, package design, advertising, web design, animation, typography and more. Upper-level coursework will broaden your knowledge in technical applications, art and design, interactive media, and the interdisciplinary nature of art, technology and science.

Career Connections Each student in the Digital Media program completes a public portfolio exhibition where industry professionals, hiring managers and art directors from area companies get the opportunity to meet with students and see their work, resumé and career readiness. IRSC graduates go straight into good paying jobs directly out of the portfolio exhibition.

Graphic Design/Digital Media Club The IRSC Graphic Design/Digital Media Club sponsors two ArtistTalk events per year, where students, faculty and members of the community give six minute TED-style talks about their work or a subject related to design or art, and two Student Video Screening Nights, where IRSC students have a chance to show their video and animation work in a public forum. The club also travels to Art Week in Miami every December to attend Art Miami, Context and Aqua, and several other international art expositions.

Animation, Gaming & Modeling Concentration Video game design, animation and 3-D modeling are some of the fastest-growing industries in the world. Push your imagination by creating new and innovative visual imagery for use in a training simulation, game or movie. The Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) Degree in Digital Media explores advanced skills in the theoretical and practical aspects critical to the industry, and upper-level coursework broadens students’ knowledge in areas such as animation, scriptwriting, critical and creative thinking in media, and the interdisciplinary nature of art, technology and science. Graduates are sought after by dozens of area companies.

State-of-the-Art Facilities Students work in digital media labs with superior computing power, more than 40 Apple Macintosh workstations and more than 60 high-end Windows workstations for 3-D modeling, animation and rendering. IRSC facilities include a virtual reality gaming lab, 3-D scanners, industrial 3-D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutter and large-scale photo printers.

The Game Design and Development Club is open to all students who are interested in the start-to-finish development of a game. Games of all sorts are created, played and discussed—from card to board, video to tabletop. Human Services If you enjoy helping others in crisis or those who are having difficulty coping with life problems, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services is your key to a rewarding career. Students may choose from three areas of specialization.

Addictions Studies

Addictions Studies explores the nature and impact of addiction on families, individuals and society. Focus is on addictive behaviors including substance abuse, gambling and internet addiction. Students learn strategies for treatment and recovery, as well as how to provide support, coordinate community outreach activities and facilitate educational programs. Careers are available in a variety of in-patient as well as out-patient treatment facilities.

Youth & Family Studies

This concentration focuses on issues that affect families and children including child behavior problems, domestic abuse, delinquency, sexual abuse, special needs and aging. Students learn to identify problematic behaviors and cycles of abuse that interfere with healthy living. Interviewing and intervention strategies and techniques are a major focus. Graduates may pursue careers that include victim advocates, child advocates, caseworkers, outreach workers, life-skills instructors, family-support workers and crisis-intervention workers.

Human Services Generalist

This concentration allows students to take electives from both the Youth & Family and Addictions Studies concentrations. Practical application of skills and techniques through simulated classroom scenarios is emphasized. Students prepare to work in a broad array of areas including agency family-services counselor, dependency case manager and intake interviewer.

Graduates Go Further

Nearly four out of five program graduates are employed shortly after graduation. This includes placement with dozens of local agencies including SafeSpace and Children's Home Society. The R.N. to B.S.N. Degree provides you with a highly valued credential that may increase your earning potential and open doors to advancing your career. Hospitals and healthcare organizations are seeking nursing supervisors and managers who are effective leaders, ready to manage complex resources. The IRSC R.N. to B.S.N. Degree program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

Organizational Management A Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Organizational Management opens doors for career advancement for students who wish to advance to higherlevel supervisory and management positions within business, industry and governmental organizations. Hands-On Learning: Capstone Studies A recent Capstone project with the St. Lucie County Economic Development Council had IRSC Organizational Management students evaluating the expanding industrial needs of St. Lucie County. The Capstone team conducted focus groups and surveys, and utilized databases to determine the best possible use for a large multi-acre tract of land running along I-95 in the Tradition area. The Capstone presentation revealed “best use” recommendations for the property—highest community benefits in terms of economic development and resident lifestyle—that will inform city planning.

Emergency Planning and Management Gain the credentials and skills to play a key role in local, state and federal emergency planning. Students will acquire a foundation in multi-agency incident command, emergency services policy, organizational administration, public finance and ethics.

Public Policy and Leadership Learn to effectively manage people and projects, provide top-quality service, and ensure efficient and careful use of resources as a professional in a local, county, state or federal position. This degree provides an excellent foundation for students looking to continue in graduate programs in public administration or political science and those planning to apply to law school.

Learn Through Experience During their final semester, students apply what they have learned in a Capstone experience. TRAINING FLORIDA HOPE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT EXERCISE

Indian River State College hosted students from across the country for a domestic disaster training exercise in March 2019. This immersive exercise exposed students to an epidemiological response and mass-casualty response and provided them an opportunity to be involved in a victim’s information center. During the three-day exercise, students trained for response roles that used and tested skills associated with conflict resolution, disaster triage, emergency response coordination and adaptation under pressure. This is an example of the types of hands-on training and large-scale events that students may encounter at IRSC.

Courses within IRSC Global degree programs are nationally certified through Quality Matters (QM). Each offers a consistent format, so students can focus on learning and easily find the materials they need.

Academic Advisement All new degree-seeking students at Indian River State College are assigned an advisor upon completion of admissions. Your assigned advisor works with you to help you map out your degree or certificate program. Bachelor’s Degree Requirements Students must earn at least twenty-five percent (25%) of their Baccalaureate Degree at IRSC. Students must successfully complete, with a GPA of 2.0 or higher, 36 hours of General Education credit (or equivalent) in the areas established by Indian River State College for its Bachelor's Degree program. Students must also demonstrate foreign language competence. Some IRSC Bachelor’s Degree programs have additional graduation requirements.
