In short you are immersed in a society of mutation, becoming, or uncertainty, which, however, may find interesting answers through new service concepts, even in a period of transition. This research integrated Industrial Design, Architecture, Home Automation,and EcoWebDesign, wants to participate in and contribute creatively to the scale of the transformation of contemporary social and economic structure, enhancing the principle of conceptual quality and the manufacturing industry, which the Italian product is obliged to history and tradition, to preside in the world. In breve si è immersi in una società della mutazione, del divenire o dell’incertezza, che tuttavia può trovare risposte interessanti tramite nuovi concetti di servizio, anche dentro una fase di transizione. Questa ricerca integrata di Design Industriale, Architettura, Domotica, Web ed Eco Design, vuole partecipare e contribuire in modo creativo alla scala delle trasformazioni del tessuto economico sociale contemporaneo, esaltando quel principio di qualità concettuale e manifatturiera, che il prodotto italiano è obbligato, per storia e tradizione, a presidiare nel mondo.

I processi innovativi nella storia generalmente avvengono per discontinuità: dimensione/misura/ forma/diversità/densità/velocità (Global Cities London School of Economics) sono parole chiavi su cui si dovrà riflettere per riprogettare un tessuto urbano e sociale, che risente di una debolezza del pensiero, nel rispondere a nuove esigenze e nuove realtà che il sistema Italia-Mondo ci pone.

Molti economisti sostengono che l’Innovazione deve essere considerata più che mai come un vero e proprio “Ecosistema Culturale” o un sistema permanente di apprendimento (come suggeriscono S. Beckman e M. Barry della Berkeley University) in cui la scelta delle domande è molto più importante delle risposte. In sostanza, si innova là, dove si è disposti a cambiare per crescere.

Transition Town New Models of Social Housing for social groups emerging from the current socio-economic conditions.

Transition Town is a project of research that wants to read and interpret some features of contemporary society emerging, linked to the transience and insecurity, focusing on new living proposals.

The design approach, based on Systemic and on the theory of complexity, split mode for sharing experimental sustainable living models, based on shared space and services as well as on key concepts such as modularity, flexibility, figurative identity, sustainability and home automation.

The advanced search is a project of social housing, wants to explore and suggest experimental solutions to new urban typologies able to interpret and respond to certain entities, emerging or emerged from social change, focusing on those disadvantaged groups of population (defined by the European Commission/ECReg.n.800/2008).

This project therefore aims to contribute to the development of new scenarios that explore design of a service in its generative qualities. In fact, the housing units will provide new typological categories of products and services designed specifically so as to create an appropriate habitat, friendly and helpful to produce a series of links with the urban society and the world of work, temporarily weakened by the condition of difficulty; will be the basis for generating other common areas that can provide both functional places of shared services, both free spaces of sociability.

These issues today in Italy are not yet clear (though there are important experiences on social housing), but that rely on expanding trend and appear irreversible.

Transition Town si pone come progetto di ricerca che vuole leggere e interpretare alcune caratteristiche emergenti della società attuale, legate alla transitorietà e alla precarietà, focalizzandosi su nuove proposte dell’Abitare.

L’approccio progettuale, basato sulla Sistemica e sulla teoria della Complessità, contempla modalità di sharing per modelli abitativi sperimentali sostenibili, basati sulla condivisione di spazi e servizi oltre che su concetti chiave come: modularità, flessibilità, identità figurativa, sostenibilità, domotica.

La ricerca si pone come progetto avanzato di social housing, vuole esplorare e proporre soluzioni sperimentali di nuove tipologie urbane in grado di interpretare e rispondere ad alcune realtà, emergenti o emerse dai cambiamenti sociali, focalizzando l’attenzione su quelle fasce svantaggiate di popolazione (definite dalla Commissione Europea/Reg. CE n. 800/2008).

Questo progetto intende perciò contribuire all’elaborazione di nuovi scenari del design che esplorino un servizio nella sua qualità generativa. Infatti, i moduli abitativi prevederanno nuove rubriche tipologiche di prodotti e servizi progettati ad hoc così da poter creare un habitat consono, accogliente e utile a produrre una serie di collegamenti con la società urbana e il mondo del lavoro, temporaneamente indebolite dalla condizione di difficoltà; sarà la base per generare altri spazi comuni che potranno prevedere sia luoghi funzionali di condivisione dei servizi, sia spazi liberi di socialità.

Problematiche queste che oggi in Italia ancora non sono formulate in modo chiaro (anche se sul social housing esistono esperienze importanti), ma che si appoggiano su trend in espansione e che appaiono irreversibili.

7 - Introduction

Transition Town: a new urban gestalt.

This research is based on the idea of new and original urban management suitable to the phases of social transition such as the one we are experiencing dismantling of Keynesian economics. This particular concept of Transition Towns, differs from the original model of the Transition Town, based on the concept of “regrowth” society, in which, to indicate the distance from the actual society you would want to even minting a coin independently, as well as many other features of re founding social certainly interesting in its intentions, but very extreme and therefore in my opinion unable to act as a viable model as ideological.

The research that we propose is aimed at the design and construction of residential complexes experimental thanks to an integrated design of Architecture and Design, Sustainability, Building, Agriculture vertical, urban management and marketing of sharing housing, as well as determining the formation of enterprise networks.

The chronical of contemporary economics tells us that the historical recipients of social housing have changed; especially has changed the paradigm of the stability-instability in the economy, which is going from model to “oil” now in deep eclipse, to something else, such as to change the perception of who is actually induced in critical condition. Yesterday was attributed to the sphere of poverty in a stable model, even theoretically consumerism and progressive.

Today, because of the tough competitive arena and incessant new technologies, the area of criticism is greatly enlarged on a global scale, and industrialized countries includes alarming a huge percentage of graduates and professionists.

This is a new situation that opens new opportunities for new energies to raising strong private initiative, while also open to disturbing scenarios of potential default if we talk in terms of Vision and Mission. It is no longer thinkable in fact a society that on the one hand generates “knowledge” through millions of graduates and then let them die slowly marginalizing them.

Questa ricerca si basa su una idea di nuovo ed originale management urbano adatto alle fasi di transizione sociale quale quella che stiamo vivendo di demolizione della economia Keynesiana. Questo particolare concept di Transition Town, si differenzia dal modello delle Transition Town originario, basate sul concetto di “Decrescita” sociale, in cui, a segnalare la distanza dalla società attuale si vorrebbe addirittura coniare una moneta autonoma, oltre a molte altre caratteristiche di rifondazione sociale sicuramente interessanti nelle intenzioni, ma decisamente estreme e perciò a mio avviso incapaci a porsi come modello praticabile in quanto ideologico. La ricerca che proponiamo ha come scopo la progettazione e costruzione di nuclei abitativi sperimentali grazie ad un design integrato di Architettura e Design, Sostenibilità, Domotica, Agricoltura verticale, Management urbano e Marketing dello Sharing abitativo, oltre che alla determinante formazione di Reti di Impresa. La cronanca della economia contemporanea ci dice che i destinatari storici di housing sociale sono molto cambiati; soprattutto è cambiato il paradigma del rapporto stabilità-instabilità nella economia, che sta passando dal modello a “idrocarburi” oggi in profonda eclisse, a qualcosa di diverso, tale da cambiare la percezione effettiva di chi è indotto in condizione critica. Ieri era riconducibile alla sfera della povertà dentro un modello sostanzialmente stabile, anzi teoricamente consumista e progressivo. Oggi a causa della durissima arena competitiva e delle incessanti nuove tecnologie, l’area della criticità è enormemente allargata a scala mondiale, e nei paesi indiustrializzati include in modo allarmante una percentule enorme di laureati e professionalizzati. Questo è un dato nuovo che se da un lato apre verso nuove energie per nuove opportunità rilanciando fortemente l’iniziativa privata, al tempo stesso apre anche verso inquietanti scenari di potenziale default se parliamo in termini di Vision e Mission.

8 - Critiques

Our young people need and deserve not only to work but to be useful to society, and society must guarantee their right to feel useful part of the world, part of a project to the world, and the remainder of the project. But the risk of a sustainable society being engineering, rough or smooth it is, but driven by the economy alone, or worse, without a rudder, is definitely there.

Transition Town responds positively to two aspects of the problem: one to lower the bar of critical social subtracting total, albeit temporarily, at least the problem of finding decent housing with no cash payment; the other is to stimulate the formation of business networks based on innovation. Smart Networks. It called Transition because it is given to predict when this transition period is over, what will be the mega-mega-trends or emerging scenarios, but we would like that these results our democratic society firmly maintained some characteristics of humanism, which is now possible also in terms of business models in the network, from self, or from the many important experiences of co-working.

The term Smart City delivers therefore a fascinating process in which information and communication technologies are now easily accessible, can and must contribute to the simplification of course, the fluid, facilitation and intelligent exaltation, of life in the city thanks to a TV talk the refrigerator or a smart device that while floundering in traffic, cooking for us and watered the plants alone. But we also know very well that the technology to nature, role and fate are never called upon to indicate the direction of change or, paradoxically, to be the drivers themselves.

That role belongs to factor in Design Thinking. Factor Design Thinking, is a constellation of thoughts trans disciplinary suitable for complex societies, and results in signs and sign systems, systemic maps that emerge from the study of new geographies created new systems of social life.

It therefore seems more and more like a real driver of sociological processes as capable of reaching for history and nature, especially today, to translate into new formal alphabets the many changes taking place, to a real cultural ecosystem.

Sustainability is now urgent and emergent, but I do not know if it actually is still the real heart of the problem.

Non è più pensabile infatti una società che da un lato genera “conoscenza” attraverso milioni di laureati per poi lasciarli morire emarginandoli lentamente. I nostri giovani hanno bisogno e diritto non solo di lavorare, ma di essere utili alla società, e la società deve garantire loro il diritto di sentirsi parte utile del mondo, parte di un progetto di mondo, e non il residuo del progetto. Ma il rischio di una società sostenibile ma ingegneristica, ruvida o liscia che sia, ma guidata dalla sola economia, o peggio ancora senza timone, c’è, eccome.

Transition Town risponde positivamente a due aspetti del problema: uno di abbassare l’asticella della criticità sociale complessiva sottraendo, seppure in modo temporaneo, almeno il problema di trovare una abitazione dignitosa senza esborso di denaro; l’altro è quello di stimolare la formazione di reti d’impresa basate sull’innovazione.

Reti Smart. E’ chiamato Transition perché non è dato di prevedere allorquando questo periodo di passaggio finirà, quali saranno i mega-trend o i mega-scenari emergenti, ma noi vorremmo che in questi esiti la nostra società democratica mantenesse fermamente alcune caratteristiche di umanesimo, cosa oggi possibile anche sotto l’aspetto dei modelli di business a rete, dall’autoproduzione, o dalle molte importanti esperienze di co-working. Accanto a questi dati, sappiamo dai report delle Nazioni Unite che fra pochissime decadi il 65-70% della popolazione mondiale vivrà in metropoli o in megalopoli, in breve, in rilevanti ammassi urbani. Il termine Smart City inquadra perciò un processo affascinante in cui le tecnologie informatiche e telematiche oggi ben accessibili, possono e ovviamente devono contribuire alla semplificazione, alla fluidificazione, alla facilitazione ed esaltazione intelligente, della vita dei cittadini nelle metropoli grazie ad un televisore che parla con il frigorifero o un congegno intelligente che mentre annaspiamo nel traffico, cucina per noi e annaffia le piante da solo. Ma sappiamo anche molto bene che le tecnologie per natura, ruolo e destino non sono mai chiamate ad indicare la direzione del cambiamento o paradossalmente ad essere il driver di se stesse. Questo ruolo spetta al fattore Design Thinking. Il fattore Design Thinking, è una costellazione di pensieri transdisciplinare adatta a società complesse, e traduce in segni e sistemi di segni, le mappe sistemiche che emergono dallo studio delle nuove geografie create nei nuovi sistemi di vita sociale. Appare quindi sempre più come un autentico driver di processi sociologici di vasta portata in quanto capace per storia e per natura, specie oggi, di tradurre in nuovi alfabeti formali le molte trasformazioni in corso, verso un vero e proprio ecosistema culturale.

La sostenibilità oggi è impellente ed emergente, ma non so dire se effettivamente sia ancora il vero cuore del problema.

9 - Transition Town

A new trend in the “Made in Italy”.

ICE-agency for internationalization, is pleased to be able to contribute to the project Transiton Town that aims to launch what we would like to become a new trend in the “Made in Italy”, which focuses not only on traditional channels of luxury but also in its being contribution to the social wellbeing of the community of people, an image that has to do justice to the production culture of the country. We wondered whether, given the conditions favorable minimum, the evolution of new dies for the Made in Italy can be triggered by the public as an actor aggregator “super partes”, and what precautions you can replicate the process model “Olivetti” is the internationalization of both the development of communities and territories, given that, in an economic environment “global” that is becoming more harsh, is growing, unanswered, a question of social stability. In the same advanced economies, the concept of social well-being related to the income of the individual consumer starts to falter, and with it the same social stability in the future, if that could be lost at the level of individual income, not being compensated in some way in terms of quality of life, or the life forms that maintain the fullness of the whole social and human dignity: a “being” not measured up having. ICE-Agency along with ISIA Roma Design, has developed a project to aggregate, and place on the world map, the many skills in the field of innovation, in our country (design, supply and research), but often scattered and little synergy . In other words, Transition Towns aims to put in systematic link high intensity areas of research and innovation (ex. Scandinavia, Japan) with a production system-intensive manufacturing and application as the Italian one.

ICE-Agenzia per l’internazionalizzazione è lieta di poter contribuire al progettoTransiton Town che si propone di lanciare quella che vorremmo diventi una nuova corrente nel “Made in Italy”, incentrata non soltanto nei canali tradizionali del lusso ma anche nel suo essere contributo al benessere sociale delle comunità di persone, un’immagine che deve fare giustizia della cultura produttiva del Paese.

Ci siamo chiesti se, dati dei presupposti favorevoli minimi, l’evoluzione di nuove filiere per il Made in Italy possa essere innescata dall’operatore pubblico in qualità di attoreaggregatore “super partes”, e con quali accorgimenti di processo si possa replicare il modello “Olivetti” sia di internazionalizzazione sia di sviluppo delle comunità e dei territori, visto che, in un ambiente economico “globale” che si fa sempre più aspro, sta crescendo, inevasa, una domanda di stabilità sociale.Nelle stesse economie avanzate il concetto di benessere sociale legato al reddito dell’individuo consumatore comincia a vacillare, e con esso la stessa stabilità sociale futura, se ciò che potrebbe perdersi a livello di redditi individuali, non venisse in qualche modo compensato in termini di qualità della vita, o forme per il vivere nell’insieme sociale che salvaguardino la pienezza e la dignitàumana: un “essere” non misurato con l’avere.

ICE-Agenzia insieme ad ISIA Roma Design, ha sviluppato un progetto per aggregare, e collocare sulla mappa mondiale, le tantecompetenze nel campo dell’edilizia innovativa, presenti nel nostro Paese (progettazione, fornitura e ricerca), ma spesso disperse e poco sinergiche. In altri termini Transition Towns si propone di mettere in collegamento sistematico aree ad alta intensità di ricerca e d’innovazione (es.

Scandinavia, Giappone) con un sistema produttivo ad alta intensità manifatturiera ed applicative come quello italiano.

Innovation and change: city around the citizens.

• Marco Olivotto, Technological Transfer - Polo Tecnologico di Pordenone (Italy).

From the beginning, Polo Tecnologico of Pordenone, shared the approach proposed by Transition Town; it’s a highly innovative model and disruptive respect to the status quo of smart cities.

Innovation and change, as the mission that characterizes our Technological Pole, because Transition Town has changed and shifted the focus of traditional smart cities; main actor is no longer the super city, hyper wired and hyper computerized, but the city around the citizens in a “smart” and “easy” context, as well as intelligent is also easily accessible.

The study, which will be exhibited in Barcelona and then hopefully will move in many other parts of the world, tells how in a context characterized by multiple phenomena that impacted on the lifestyles of the people, the building and upgrading of the urban context (architectural, technological, health care, etc...) are the key factors, interconnected and necessary for the creation of an “environment” close and careful for all types of citizenship with their respective characteristics.

It’s an approach definitely a much more close and careful to the Man, and not the “city machine”.

As science and technology park it has been a pleasure for us to work with Transition Town and to select enterprises and technologies, “smart”, or “Easy”, which interconnected and properly placed in the urban Transition Town will help to create a living environment appropriate to the current housing needs; changing and dynamic.

Through the application of modular technology can be transferred and replicated in any socio-economic environment today and tomorrow.

Fin da subito, il Polo Tecnologico di Pordenone, ha condiviso l’approccio di Transition Town proposto dal Professor Marinelli dell’ISIA Roma Design perché rappresenta un modello altamente innovativo e disruptive rispetto allo status quo delle smart cities. Innovativo e di cambiamento, come la mission che caratterizza il nostro Polo Tecnologico, perché Transition Town ha cambiato e spostato il focus delle smart cities tradizionali; attore principale non è più la super città additivata da tecnologia e ipercablata, ma il cittadino attorno al quale viene creato un contesto “smart”, o meglio “easy”, in quanto oltre che intelligente è anche facilmente fruibile. Lo studio che verrà esposto a Barcellona e che poi auspicabilmente si muoverà in molte altre parti del mondo, racconta come in un contesto caratterizzato da molteplici fenomeni che vanno ad impattare sugli stili di vita delle persone, la costruzione e l’adeguamento del contesto urbano e del suo corredo (architettonico, tecnologico, assistenziale etc.) siano fattori chiave ed interconnessi per predisporre un ambiente adatto a tutti i tipi di cittadinanza con le loro rispettive caratteristiche. È sicuramente un approccio molto più vicino ed attento all’uomo e meno alla “macchina città”.

In quanto parco scientifico e tecnologico è stato un piacere collaborare e selezionare aziende e tecnologie “Smart”, o meglio “Easy”, che interconnesse tra loro e adeguatamente poste nel contesto urbano Transition Town aiuteranno a creare un contesto abitativo adeguato alle attuali esigenze abitative mutevoli e dinamiche e che grazie all’approccio tecnologico modulare potranno essere trasferite e replicate in qualsiasi contesto socioeconomico attuale e futuro.

11 - Transition Town

A challenge for the government.

• Martina Toffolo, Ministry to Urban Planning - Municipality of Pordenone (Italy).

The challenge today that the government must pursue is to ensure the quality of life for their citizens, qualities that would become the engine of development and social cohesion.

On this assumption rests the foundation of the study involving the neighborhood of Largo Cervignano in Pordenone, historical intervention of housing designed from the outset as a place of coexistence between public services (the local library, kindergarten), spaces relation (the park, the square) and various types of dwelling (condominium, home online).

But what was a complex project 80s today presents itself as a place with poor quality architectural and urban management costs energy abnormal and difficult social relationships that require public support measures.

The concept of transition town then becomes a pretext to reexamine the dynamics of life and to rethink, at the same time, the living spaces, bringing into play the social dynamics, the forces of the territory and wants to change the rules of the game.

The project envisages a growth path of the community who sees in “temporary transfer” in space conceived and designed (temporary houses, modular, reusable, sustainable), the opportunity to renew and rethink the way we live and the district human relations that I am the true value, waiting and following live, renewal and upgrading of the house of origin.

This project, somewhere between architecture, urban planning and social policies, has the potential to be the model of the redemption of our suburbs for which, in too many cases, the answer to the discomfort is given by repression and by promoting the quality of live.

La sfida che oggi le amministrazioni devono perseguire è quella di garantire la qualità di vita ai propri cittadini, qualità che diventi motore di sviluppo e di coesione sociale.

Su questo presupposto poggiano le basi dello studio che coinvolge il quartiere di Largo Cervignano a Pordenone, storico intervento di case popolari pensate, fin dall’inizio, come luogo di compresenza tra servizi pubblici (la biblioteca di quartiere, la scuola materna), spazi di relazione (il parco, la piazza) e diverse tipologie dell’abitare (il condominio, la casa in linea). Quello che però era un progetto complesso degli anni ’80 oggi si presenta come un luogo con scarsa qualità architettonica ed urbana, costi di gestione energetici abnormi e difficili rapporti sociali che richiedono interventi pubblici di sostegno.

Il concetto di transition town diventa allora pretesto per ridiscutere le dinamiche del vivere e per ripensare, contemporaneamente, i luoghi dell’abitare, mettendo in gioco dinamiche sociali, forze del territorio e voglia di cambiare le regole del gioco.

Il progetto prevede un percorso di crescita della comunità che vede nel “trasferimento temporaneo” in spazi pensati e progettati (case temporanee, modulari, riutilizzabili, sostenibili), l’occasione per rinnovare e ripensare il modo di vivere il quartiere e le relazioni umane che ne sono il vero valore, nell’attesa e seguendo in presa diretta, il rinnovamento e la riqualificazione dell’abitazione di origine.

Questo progetto, a cavallo tra architettura, urbanistica e politiche sociali, ha la potenzialità di essere il modello del riscatto delle nostre periferie urbane per le quali, in troppi casi, la risposta al disagio viene data con la repressione e non con promozione della qualità del vivere.

From product design to service design.

• Marco Pietrosante, Professor of Design - ISIA Roma Design/Location of Pordenone (Italy).

We are experiencing the decline of the model that has characterized the last century and the look out for a new era, in which we move from centralized model to widespread mode of horizontal exchange, the so-called “Third Industrial Revolution”.

The Internet is the proof of this step in the project is manifested as a “system”, activities in which the relationship between the parties and between users becomes the real object of analysis.

In this context, the designers are called upon to give consistent answers to complex systems, in which the satisfaction of the need “stuff” is only part of the activities necessary to fully solve design problems. The objective is to formulate proposals that meet the needs of users and predict the interconnections within the system. For this reason, the design of services study possible interactions with the user at an early stage, either through direct observation of the dynamics and profiles, and with the help of sociological research on behavioral analysis.

The designer sketches as an “open system” in which the interaction between users and their behavior in relation to the project, define the exact manner of use or the project itself.

The design of services, which belongs Transition Town contemplates the involvement of the user becomes part of the system, opening up significant opportunities to encourage responsible behavior by the users themselves who can produce relevant solutions to unexpected problems.

Solutions that can be shared for the optimization of the system and the designer will take into account in the subsequent phases of the project, resulting in an innovative and highly topical, focused on Social Design. It could not be otherwise, as the design is concerned with reading of contemporary and returning it within the project.

Stiamo vivendo il tramonto del modello che ha caratterizzato tutto il secolo scorso e ci affacciamo ad un’epoca nuova, in cui passiamo dal modello centralizzato alla modalità diffusa dello scambio orizzontale, la cosiddetta “Terza rivoluzione industriale”. La rete internet è la dimostrazione di questo passaggio in cui il progetto si manifesta come “sistema”, attività in cui la relazione tra le parti e tra gli utenti diventa il vero oggetto di analisi.

In tale ambito i designer sono chiamati a dare risposte coerenti a sistemi complessi, in cui la soddisfazione del bisogno “materiale” è solo una parte delle attività necessarie a risolvere compiutamente le problematiche progettuali.

L’obiettivo è di formulare proposte in grado di rispettare le esigenze degli utenti e di prevederne le interconnessioni all’interno del sistema. Per questa ragione il design dei servizi studia le possibili interazioni con l’utente già nella fase iniziale, sia attraverso l’osservazione diretta delle dinamiche e dei modi d’uso, sia con l’ausilio di ricerche relative all’analisi sociologico-comportamentale.

Il progettista tratteggia così un “sistema aperto”, in cui l’interazione tra gli utenti ed il loro comportamento in relazione al progetto, definiscono l’esatta modalità della fruizione ovvero del progetto stesso.

Il design dei servizi, a cui Transition Town appartiene, contempla il coinvolgimento dell’utente che diventa parte del sistema, aprendo notevoli opportunità per stimolare comportamenti responsabili da parte degli utenti stessi che possono produrre rilevanti soluzioni a problematiche inattese. Soluzioni che possono essere condivise per l’ottimizzazione del sistema e di cui il progettista potrà tener conto nelle successive fasi progettuali, dando luogo ad un percorso innovativo e di forte attualità, orientato al Social Design. Non potrebbe essere diversamente, visto che il design si occupa di lettura della contemporaneità e della sua restituzione in ambito progettuale.

Looking from the eyes of human sociality, cities have become the main environment within which our specie is reared, communicate and operate at high density of social interactions.

More than half of all humanity is currently settled in cities, and the ongoing massive and fast growth of urban agglomerates, expected to double and triple their size over a period of thirty years, forces a level of large scale planning and building which is unprecedented in our history and carries deep unknowns.

Within this global setting a growing body of studies, rooted in different scientific disciplines, converge toward a new understanding of cities as evolved environments that not only support life–human and otherwise, but bear themselves the characteristic of a live connective tissue performing unique functions, that has great repercussions upon human wellbeing, cognition, prosperity and development. This short introduction articulates some of the connections between fields of research in order to highlight potential relevant lines for design interventions in the urban texture. A growing body of studies viewing cities as complex systems, invite us to rethink urban agglomerations as evolved functional solutions to the riddle of human development.

Cities in this new perception represent complex social and physical environments, hardly separated from the life they host, that thrive on connectivity and social integration. In the initial connections here considered a new perspective is emerging that may guide the form of our cities not from aesthetic ideals nor from utopian visions but from the correlation between the functionality of the social and cognitive space and the morphology of the urban space understood as an environment that mediates information through evolving structural patterns.

In applying those reflections to local design interventions, it is fundamental to open the research on multiple formats to design for integration and inclusion. The focus on connectivity can provide the prism through which to investigate the potential to integrate, into one simultaneously developing process, both the social and the physical development of new structures.

Guardandole dagli occhi della socialità umana, le città sono diventate il principale ambiente all’interno del quale la nostra specie è cresciuta, comunicano ed operano ad alta densità di interazioni sociali. Più della metà della razza umana è costantemente ancorata alle città, e la rapida e massiva crescita di agglomerati urbani in corso, che si prevede raddoppi e triplichi le sue dimensioni nell’arco di un trentennio, impone un livello di pianificazione e costruzione su larga scala senza precedenti nella nostra storia e porta con sé profonde incognite. All’interno di questa impostazione globale un filone crescente di studi, radicato in diverse discipline scientifiche, converge verso una nuova comprensione della città quale ambiente evoluto che non solo supporta la vita, umana e non, ma sostiene essa stessa un tessuto connettivo vivente che svolge funzioni uniche, e che ha notevoli ripercussioni sul benessere, la cognizione, la prosperità e lo sviluppo umano. Questa breve introduzione scandisce alcune delle connessioni tra campi di ricerca in modo da evidenziare le linee potenzialmente rilevanti per gli interventi di design sul tessuto urbano. Alla luce di questa nuova percezione le città rappresentano ambienti sociali e fisici complessi, nettamente separati dalla vita che ospitano, che prosperano sulla connettività e l’integrazione sociale. Sta emergendo una nuova prospettiva che potrebbe guidare la conformazione delle nostre città, non secondo ideali estetici e neppure secondo visioni utopiche, piuttosto in base alla correlazione tra la funzionalità dello spazio sociale e cognitivo e la morfologia dello spazio urbano concepito come un ambiente che funge da mediatore di informazioni attraverso schemi strutturali in evoluzione.

Applicando queste riflessioni a interventi progettuali locali, è fondamentale aprire la ricerca a progetti di integrazione e inclusione. Il focus sulla connettività può fornire il prisma attraverso il quale indagare la capacità di integrare, all’interno di un unico processo di sviluppo simultaneo, lo sviluppo sia sociale che fisico di nuove strutture.

An approach to hospitality design that gives value to the area.

We believe that the systemic design can say something important about the city, on housing and on the vast industry that is the “furniture design” a new vision based on profound changes and impulses of the society of the twenty-first century. Based on these reasons we have created a research, an integrated project (as a system of objects and relations) and integral (generator inclusion and integrated society). The transition calls another highly topical subject to uncertainty, in work, in relationships (liquid society of Bauman), in life, etc... requiring a human thinking being non-linear, systemic, and to be able to deal with exploit. Useful for this kind of approach we felt that the thought of Bruno De Finetti was right in according to the “Logic of the uncertain”. Just by uncertainty and transition we can emerge a factor of “possibility”, a generative process in becoming tied to value envisage new scenarios project, house and life. The project is an integration of knowledge and professionalism, using complex thought to preserve reality at the same time supportive and conflicting with each other. We thought that a house has to be focused on the principles of self-organization, open to external inputs (and therefore inclusive) but with its own functions well-defined in-house. Its structure is designed as a real system with specific characteristics of the model/structure/ process you will have to anticipate as a “disipate structure”, that is an open system that works in a state far from equilibrium, it is not just a dormitory, but rather we will, in-house and outside the city, an exchange of energies, skills, knowledge. Interesting look at the project level is the relationship between setting durable housing, designed to stable social groups, and urban patterns, which should provide for a reasonable period the possibility of a house by which to integrate with the city, getting a job, creating a way of life. The housing development must have the characteristics of “elastic space” that allows communities to organize themselves in different areas of privacy around an idea of public space. Transition Town have ability to generate many new design themes, focusing on new and old rituals, values, behaviors and scenarios.

Pensiamo che il design dei sistemi possa dire qualcosa di importante sulla città, sull’abitazione e su quel vasto settore che è il “furniture design”, una nuova visione basata sulle emergenze della società del XXI secolo. Per questo abbiamo creato un progetto di ricerca sul design dell’inclusione, un progetto integrato (come sistema di oggetti e relazioni) e integrante (generatore di inclusione e integrato alla società).

La transizione richiama un altro tema molto attuale, quello dell’incertezza, nel lavoro, nei rapporti (la società liquida), nella vita, etc… richiedendo all’essere umano un pensiero di tipo non lineare, sistemico, per poterla affrontare e sfruttare. Utile a questo tipo di approccio ci è sembrato il pensiero di Bruno De Finetti sulla “Logica dell’incerto”.

Proprio dall’incertezza e dalla transizione pensiamo possa emergere un fattore “possibilità”, un processo generativo in divenire legato come valore al prefigurare nuovi scenari di progetto, di città, di abitazione, di vita. Il progetto nasce come integrazione dei saperi e professionalità, usando il pensiero complesso per preservare realtà al tempo stesso solidali e conflittuali fra loro. Abbiamo pensato che un nucleo abitativo si dovesse incentrare sui principi di autoorganizzazione, aperta agli input esterni (e per questo inclusiva) ma con una propria struttura funzionale ben precisa al proprio interno. La sua struttura studiata come vero e proprio sistema con caratteristiche ben precise di modello/struttura/processo si dovrà prefigurare come una “struttura dissipativa”, cioè un sistema aperto che lavora in uno stato lontano dall’equilibrio, non sarà un semplice dormitorio ma bensì ci sarà, al proprio interno e all’esterno con la città, uno scambio di energie, competenze, saperi.

L’insediamento dovrà aver caratteristiche di “spazio elastico” che consenta alle diverse comunità di organizzarsi in diversi ambiti della vita privata attorno ad un’idea di spazio collettivo. Transition Town ha la capacità di generare molteplici nuovi temi di design, focalizzando nuovi e vecchi rituali, valori, scenari e comportamenti.

This project therefore aims to contribute to the development of new scenarios of design that explore a service in its generative qualities.

Infact, the housing modules provide new typological categories of products and services designed specifically so as to create an appropriate habitat, friendly and helpful to produce a series of links with the urban society and the world of work, temporarily weakened by the condition of difficulty.

Transition Town affronta alcune problematiche insediative a livello tipologico-funzionale, ecologico ambientale, interattivo-relazionale, ipotizzando in via preliminare anche i possibili termini di un nuovo management urbano.

Questo progetto intende perciò contribuire all’elaborazione di nuovi scenari del design che esplorino un servizio nella sua qualità generativa. Infatti, i moduli abitativi prevedono nuove rubriche tipologiche di prodotti e servizi progettati ad hoc così da poter creare un habitat consono, accogliente e utile a produrre una serie di collegamenti con la società urbana e il mondo del lavoro, temporaneamente indebolite dalla condizione di difficoltà.

The Internet of Things Observatory was founded in 2011 to meet the growing interest of public and private companies to the potential offered by the new paradigm of Internet of Things (IoT). The Observatory aims to investigate the real opportunities IoT combining technology with the managerial perspective, in a context characterized by a lack of clarity on the state of the art applications, benefits enabled and waiting on the evolution of the market.

The activities planned by the Centre for 2014-2015 are: • a search in the field to analyze the main trends of the market and the Internet of Things technologies, with particular attention to the context of the Smart City and Smart Home; • four internal workshops with Partners and Sponsors Observatory, aimed at sharing of intermediate results and to guide the activities of Research; • three in-depth workshop on vertical strands of interest for Research: Technologies 169 MHz & Gas Smart Metering, Smart Home and Smart City; • a public meeting to present the results of the research activity to be held April 14, 2015 with panel discussions and actions of the main protagonists of the world of the Internet of Things.

Growth and constant research have always been the winning strategy of Presotto Industrie Mobili Spa, whose main goal is just to intercept the change, encouraging collaboration with a modern and innovative institution as ISIA Design, which has played a major role in this regard. “The continued and ever faster changing society around us, forcing us to seek new ways of design and new production methods. Design all’avanguardia e integrazione tecnologica nelle soluzioni abitative è il fil rouge che lega la filosofia Presotto al progetto Transition Town, al quale l’azienda ha aderito con grande interesse partecipando al workshop “Arredo Ibrido” tenutosi lo scorso marzo nel corso della Pordenone Design Week. Crescita e ricerca costante sono da sempre la strategia vincente di Presotto, il cui obiettivo principale è proprio quello di intercettare il cambiamento, incentivando la collaborazione con un istituto moderno e innovativo come Isia Design, che ha portato un contributo importante in tal senso. “La continua e sempre più veloce evoluzione della società che ci circonda, ci costringe a cercare nuove vie progettuali e nuove metodologie produttive. I progetti delle scuole di design non sono dei “contentini” che si danno ai ragazzi ma diventano, per loro opportunità di crescita, per noi possibilità di maturare nuove conoscenze e di apprendere linguaggi inusuali che ci permetteranno di anticipare gli eventi. Abbiamo bisogno di una relazione sempre più “interattiva” fra l’impresa e le scuole di design.

L’azienda ha sviluppato prodotti come Spyrogrip, innovativo pannello isolante in EPS, destinato al recupero ed alla riqualificazione del patrimonio edilizio esistente a cui si aggiunge un sistema costruttivo completo a 360° dalle fondamenta al tetto, fortemente innovativo, che risponde ad alti standard qualitativi sia a livello energetico, acustico e antisismico, ma anche di salubrità e benessere per gli abitanti, facendo fronte, inoltre, ad un trend dell’edilizia dove si richiede maggior cura dei particolari ad imprese meno strutturate ed a manodopera talvolta meno esperta.

GiPStech is a spin-off company of University of Calabria developing a disruptive technology platform to allow precise indoor localization and navigation employing commercial smart devices such as smartphones, without the need of costly infrastructure and with sub-optimal data connectivity.

On average people spend 90% of their time in indoor settings, in private or public enclosed spaces, where the localization services made possible and familiar outdoor by GPS are not effective.

GiPStech’s technology therefore extends in an inexpensive fashion the localization services to the indoor settings, enabling the creation of new services that can effectively assist users/ citizens in their prevalent experience.

As a result, users/citizens and businesses will be allowed a new smart interaction with the immediately surrounding environment, leveraging the device computational power and information base to empower indoor spaces.

GiPStech’s technology leverages any pre-existing signal (wi-fi, beacons, etc.) adding precision thanks to the integration of a proprietary algorithm that employs anomalies to the magnetic field present in any indoor location (because of ferromagnetic materials such as steel structures, rebars, piping, etc.) to build maps that allow a precise localization using a common smartphone without any new infrastructure.

The company was founded in early 2014 after completion of an early demo, and raised seed capital in Italy.

GiPStech è un’azienda spin-off dell’Università della Calabria, la quale sviluppa una piattaforma a tecnologia dirompente che permette una precisa localizzazione e navigazione negli ambienti interni, impiegando dispositivi commerciali smart, quali smartphones, senza la necessità di utilizzare costose componenti aggiuntive e con una connettività dati sub-ottimale. Le persone spendono in media il 90% del loro tempo in ambienti interni, in spazi chiusi pubblici o privati, dove i servizi di localizzazione, facilmente utilizzabili e di uso comune negli ambienti esterni tramite GPS, non sono efficaci.

La tecnologia GiPStech, pertanto, estende, a costo zero, i servizi di localizzazione agli ambienti interni, permettendo la creazione di nuovi servizi che possano effettivamente aiutare gli utenti/ cittadini nelle situazioni in cui si trovano più frequentemente. Quale risultato, gli utenti/cittadini e le imprese avranno accesso ad un nuovo tipo di interazione “smart” con l’ambiente immediatamente circostante, sfruttando il dispositivo di calcolo di potenza e le informazioni base per potenziare gli spazi interni. La tecnologia GiPStech sfrutta ogni segnale preesistente (wi-fi, beacons, ecc…) aumentandone la precisione grazie all’integrazione di un algoritmo proprietario che impiega anomalie al campo magnetico presente in ogni luogo interno (a causa di materiali ferromagnetici quali strutture in acciaio, tondini, tubazioni, ecc…) per costruire mappe che permettano una localizzazione precisa utilizzando un comune smartphone, senza alcuna nuova componente aggiuntiva. Objective: To create new opportunities for economic development, linking Europe and the western Atlantic to the Russian Pacific coast through modern infrastructure and “smart” urban centers as key junctions in the service system.

This is the goal of the “Project Razvitie” (“development” in russian), a major investment plan aimed at creating a new EuroAsian economic corridor.

Features: The Project envisages a 200-300 Km wide land corridor fitted with state of the art telecommunications rail and motorway links, a transcontinental pipeline network for gas, oli electricity and water, and new urban settlements as well as advanced eco-friendly industrial districts.

International cooperation: A project of such large proportions can only be achieved with a large international involvement from both Europe, Russia and the Asian countries. At the international level the Razvitie Project can be a driver in economic development in times of serious geopolitical turmoil generated by the Ukrain crises. The Razvitie Project wishes to promote cooperation between international economic players in order to achieve a comprehensive development policy for the benefit of all who live in the Euro-Asian continent. The Italian Committee for the “Razvitie Project” was established along theese lines of common development and peaceful cooperation.

The Committee wishes to act as a service structure to link italian and russian promoters of this major international project.

Obiettivo: creazione di nuove opportunità di sviluppo economico, collegando con moderne infrastrutture la costa russa del Pacifico con i Paesi europei fino all’Atlantico in parallelo con l’ammodernamento dei centri urbani di snodo infrastrutturalei: è questo l’obbiettivo del “Progetto Razvitie” (“sviluppo” in lingua russa), un piano di grandi investimenti finalizzati alla realizzazione di un nuovo corridoio euro-asiatico.

Caratteristiche: Nel corridoio, oltre ai trasporti ferroviari e autostradali, ed ai collegamenti trans-continentali con pipeline per il gas, il petrolio, l’acqua, l’elettricità e le telecomunicazioni, si prevedeno piani di sviluppo per una fascia di 200-300 km lungo l’intera linea, che sarà destinata alla realizzazione di nuovi insediamenti urbani (smartcities) e distretti produttivi a tecnologia avanzata ed ecocompatibili.

Cooperazione internazionale: Un progetto di così grande portata può essere realizzato soltanto con la partecipazione degli operatori di tutti i Paesi coinvolti, a cominciare dall’Unione europea e dall’Italia, il cui contributo tecnologico appare insostituibile. In un periodo di grave crisi geopolitica generata dalla questione Ucraina, con rischi di ritorno a tensioni antistoriche da guerra fredda, il Progetto Razvitie propone una collaborazione tra gli attori economici internazionali per realizzare una vasta politica di sviluppo a beneficio di tutti coloro che vivono nel continente euro-asiatico.

Da tempo siamo passati da società a Continente, il cui attore è la famiglia che organizza e gestisce la domanda di innovazione, verso una società ad Arcipelago, il cui attore è la persona che manifesta una domanda di innovazione più complessa e contraddittoria. Il cambiamento delle condizioni socio-economiche della macchina globale del produrre, ha creato uno scenario culturale e industriale deframmentato e incerto rendendo i tradizionali modelli epistemologici del Design e del Marketing non sufficienti ad una intervento sulla realtà. Innovation Factor Design meant to create relationships; neighborhood or di- stance, to include or to exclude. In the post-industrial society the knowledge seems more like a permanent and multidisciplinary construction that moves by itself, as expected centre of the universe, towards the edges of a three dimensional network increasingly to N dimensions.

In Contemporary Society, those models are now focused on the notion of ubiquity and complexity, making difficult to find a centre not only cognitive but also existential shared in a society where is labyrinthic in which everything is inside something else, and where you answer a question with another question. .Nella società post-industriale il sapere si presenta sempre più come una costruzione permanente e multidisciplinare che si sposta dal sé, preteso centro dell’universo, verso i bordi di una rete tridimensionale sempre più ad N dimensioni. Nella Società Contemporanea quei modelli sono ora focalizzati sulla nozione di Ubiquità e Complessità, rendendo difficile la ricerca di un centro non solo esistenziale ma anche cognitivo condiviso, in una società labirintica dove ogni cosa è dentro un’altra cosa, e dove si risponde ad una domanda, con un’altra domanda.

The WorkPackages helps and sustain the traditional design practice, focusing on the aspects characterizing the Transition Town. The feedback necessary to define a consistent design are very numerous and similar to the nature of the phenomena studied in quantum physics where it counts the most resonance between the parties(networks and nodes) that the force of gravity (attraction to a point).

In particular, the search for alternative solutions and reuse of elements and/ or the recycling of components. Inclusion of new factors and new approaches to urban design, the approach of morphological type IngelsGroupBIG-Bjarke numerous European experiences that go under the title of Container City and Smartcities.

Il WP 2 si occupa di analizzare l’esistente e ricercare proposte innovanti in termini di città e di spazialità urbana. In particolare la ricerca di soluzioni alternative e riuso di elementi e/o il riciclo di componenti. Metamorfosi tipologiche e permutazione di spazi e topologie abitative, con materiali e tecnologie innovative.

Il WP3 affronta il tema dell’identità dei luoghi, dando risalto al Progetto inteso come incrocio concettuale delle interazioni tra forma-funzione-figurazione. Si vuole esplorare un abaco figurativo fatto di elementi e nodi morfologicamente interessanti. L’insediamento umano sarà letto come un mosaico integrato di esperienze emergenti dai bisogni della società.

Le new Town avranno la capacità di creare un pattern, con una propria identità urbana integrata e permettendo l’interazione con i processi lavorativi. Il modulo abitativo nella sua flessibilità non solo offrirà un alloggio temporaneo a chi è momentaneamente in difficoltà, ma sarà la base per generare altri spazi comuni che potranno prevedere sia luoghi funzionali di condivisione dei servizi, sia spazi liberi di socialità.

In WP4 focuses the study of interior design for social housing (social housing). Design of interior spaces, detection and management of housing functions. Nuove idee e nuovi modi di utilizzare i mobili, legando il progetto di forniture design alla visione più generale dello spazio; con una particolare attenzione alla compattezza e alla riduzione dei volumi.

Parole chiave saranno lo studio delle soglie di passaggio come continuità/discontinuità spaziali e come luoghi/nonluoghi.

WP5 - Sustainability and home automation.

The sustainability of the settlement becomes one of the crucial aspects of urban planning, ecological aspects and sustainable despite being a pre-requisite for any basic design still require a strong focus. La sostenibilità dell’insediamento diventa uno degli aspetti cruciali della progettazione urbana, gli aspetti ecologici e sostenibili pur essendo un pre-requisito di base per qualsiasi progettazione hanno bisogno ancora di una forte attenzione.

Nel WP 5 pone perciò particolare attenzione ai principi della sostenibilità in generale e in particolare al basso contenuto di carbonio e ad ipotesi sull’energia.Saranno presi in considerazione gli elementi primari, l’ECO-Continuum e la Permacultura. Verranno affrontate anche tutte quelle tematiche legate alla domotica e all’automazione delle azioni nelle abitazioni. Utilizzando l’Interaction design come ampliamento delle funzioni, semplificazione delle procedure e riduzione dei consumi energetici. Si approfondiranno il concetto di progetto sensibile, ovvero la capacità di rilevare stimoli (sensibilità nel percepire stimoli e percepire una varietà di stimoli) e il progetttointelligente, ovvero la capacità di elaborare stimoli (riduzione dei falsi positivi e capacità di proporre soluzioni in contesti multipli real-time).

CITY & DESIGN

The theme of the accommodation invests human civilization in all its aspects, until it becomes the key paradigm of what isancient-modern-contemporary.

The citytakes on a new significance as a place, in fact, while for millennia it has been the place where we stayed and were communicating, today the city is above all a place where we relate to.

The project starts from the detectionof the mutationof the social model ”Company Continent” to the model of “Company to Archipelago”: the centrality of the traditional family, where the living space constituted almost entirely of product demand and innovation, a company that constantly generating new types of families, groups of socially identifiable and spatial contexts on which to build new applications for the product.

Through the systemic approach to the project, the human settlement will be read in various scales like a mosaic integrated experiences continually emerging from the needs of society.

Il tema dell’alloggio investe la civiltà umana in tutti i suoi aspetti, sino a renderlo il paradigma chiave di ciò che è antico-moderno-contemporaneo.

La città assume una nuova valenza come luogo, infatti, mentre per millenni è stata il luogo dove si stava, si faceva e si comunicava, oggi la città è soprattutto il luogo in cui ci si relaziona.

Il progetto parte dalla rilevazione della mutazione del modello sociale da “Società Continente” verso il modello di “Società ad Arcipelago”: dalla centralità della famiglia tradizionale, dove lo spazio abitativo costituiva la quasi totalità di domanda di prodotto e innovazione, a una società che genera costantemente nuovi tipi di famiglie, di gruppi identificabili socialmente e di contesti spaziali su cui innestare nuove domande di prodotto. Attraverso l’approccio Sistemico al progetto, l’insediamento umano sarà letto nelle diverse scale come un mosaico integrato di esperienze continuamente emergenti dai bisogni della società.

Pordenone Transition Town The following page shows the Transition Town concept for the city of Pordenone (Largo Cervignano), part of the new urban plan of the city.

The building complex located in Largo Cervignano in Pordenone was created in a program ATER at the beginning of the 80 characteristics are certainly interesting architecture that has developed in a way that caught a building program of social housing, especially considering the ‘impact of town design. Il complesso edilizio sito in Largo Cervignano in Pordenone è stato realizzato all’interno di un programma ATER all’inizio degli anni 80 con caratteristiche sicuramente interessanti di architettura che ha saputo sviluppare in un modo colto un programma edilizio di housing sociale, soprattutto considerando l’impatto di town design. Oggi questo insediamento manifesta un forte deficit sia a livello impiantistico per la parte elettrica e per gli aspetti connessi all’area golenale, e sia sotto gli aspetti di impatto visivo, in particolare nella parte del complesso alta otto piani che sta a fronte strada.

La amministrazione comunale ha pensato di utilizzare il paradigma Transition Town, delle architetture temporanee da costruire esattamente nel luogo stesso della loro vita quotidiana, onde poter in questo modo realizzare una grossa operazione di recupero ambientale evitando notevoli disagi o addirittura traumi da disadattamento per la componente degli anziani e dei piccoli.

Queste problematiche oggi in Europa ancora non sono formulate in modo chiaro in termini di mercato, ma va detto che su un nuovo tipo di social housing molto più moderno ed attuale, esistono segnali importanti che si appoggiano su trend in cammino molto precisi e che almeno per i prossimi decenni, appaiono irreversibili. Questo tema è destinato ad evolvere molto rapidamente dal piano del disagio alla richiesta più esplicita in termini di mercato e di domanda-offerta di servizi abitativi evoluti.

Per concludere questo progetto è un progetto di Sistema ed ha perciò tutte le prerogative necessarie per interessare una vera e ampia molteplicità di attori sociali, professionali, imprenditoriali, finanziari e culturali, che il Design Management deve interconnettere e assemblare in funzione sia di riqualificazione delle aree urbane, che di prospettive di nuovi settori del business. Si pensi soltanto cosa potrebbe rappresentare in funzione di un nuovo tipo di turismo low cost ma di alta dignità per cultura spaziale e innovatività.

KI is a portable furniture that consists of two main modules Bag and Home that are linked together.

The Bag module is conceived as a smart container designed to carry the tools for the job. The Home module is formed by six parts that are modular and which can be assembled in different ways depending on the situation. In Japanese culture the word IKI represents the things worth of special consideration, hence the name for the minimal and flexible furniture. IKI is designed to meet the needs of those who have to move for living and working and who do not have a permanent place to live. The IKI furniture is not only a container but especially a smart object with specific functions related to the basic needs of life: feeding, taking care of oneself and work. The user by approaching the badge to the sensor unlocks the Bag module with which he will be able to go to the storage place to pick up the Home module, which conforms to the needs that the user has previously expressed during the compilation of his profile.

IKI è un mobile portatile che consiste in due moduli principali, Bag e Home, che sono collegati l’uno all’altro. Il modulo Bag è concepito come un container smart disegnato per trasportare gli strumenti da lavoro. Il modulo Home è formato da sei parti modulari e che possono essere assemblate in differenti modi, a seconda della situazione. Nella cultura giapponese la parola IKI rappresenta le cose che hanno un valore speciale, da qui il nome scelto per un tipo di arredamento flessibile e minimale. IKI è disegnato per incontrare i bisogni di coloro che devono spostarsi per vivere e lavorare e che non hanno un posto fisso in cui vivere. L’arredamento IKI non è solo un container, ma in particolare, un oggetto smart con funzioni specifiche legate ai bisogni primari di vita: cibarsi, prendersi cura di sé e lavorare.

The heart of the problem is that as we become more and more global we become less and less universal, and our ability to imagine and conceptualize flattens out at an alarming rate. We need a new Urban Gestalt, we need an imaginary city for the third millennium, around which bind the economy based on sustainability.

A key challenge that can organize and configurate processes whose ultimate goal is the quality of the city general identity, not just about economic values, plant engineering, technical or energy.

Il cuore del problema è che mentre diventiamo sempre più globali diventiamo sempre meno unversali, e la nostra capacità di immaginare e concettualizzare si appiattisce in modo inquietante.

Abbiamo bisogno di una nuova Gestalt Urbana, abbiamo bisogno di un immaginario urbano per il terzo millennio, attorno a cui legare l’economia basata sulla sostenibilità. Una sfida importantissima capace di organizzare e dare configurazione, a processi il cui fine ultimo è quello della qualità identaria generale della città, quindi non solo attorno a valori economici, impiantistici, tecnici o energetici.

The settlement has absolute need of symbolic value and therefore the contrast to the dispersion of Symbolic Capital through the proliferation of non-places in our cities, it is a fundamental action. We have a strong need to recognize ourselves in the places we love, and we can tear the catalog of “non-places”. The optimization of sustainable technical values, from all the words that we put in front of the prefix “eco” in short, the new engineering of sustainability, it is now absolutely necessary, but it can never by itself constitute or just return the value symbolic of an adequate social culture and collective space, the architecture of a square, a bridge to the urban theater that we need to recognize in a “place”. Places in short, they are the heart and soul of European cities, but today not only in Europe.

L’insediamento ha assoluto bisogno del valore simbolico e dunque il contrasto alla dispersione del Capitale Simbolico attraverso la proliferazione di non-luoghi nelle nostre città, è una azione fondamentale.

Abbiamo un bisogno forte di riconoscerci in luoghi che amiamo e che possiamo strappare al catalogo dei “non luoghi”. L’ottimizzazione di valori tecnici sostenibili, a partire da tutte le parole a cui mettiamo davanti il prefisso “eco”, insomma la nuova ingegneria della sostenibilità, è oggi assolutamente necessaria, ma non può mai da sola, costituire o anche solo restituire il valore simbolico di una adeguata cultura sociale e collettiva dello spazio, l’architettura di una piazza, di un ponte, di quel teatro urbano di cui abbiamo bisogno per riconoscerci in un “Luogo”.

Luoghi insomma che sono il cuore e l’anima delle città europee, ma oggi non solo europee.

The inhabitants of the Transition Town, must go through an acceptance of a social network operated by contracting with businesses, and then temporarily installed, they offer to the community of their time and skills in exchange for free usufruct of spaces and functions aesthetic and a very high function, thus entering into a circuit of social reciprocal.

Spaces are highly categorized added value through smart technologies, and managed by the respective municipalities, through a mix of home automation, permaculture, self-efficiency, vertical farming, babysitting, elderly care, maintenance, analysis of flows and networks available to phenomena recycling and mapping of communities and individuals with shared values.

Thus, at the outset, we suggest possible terms of a new urban management in complex societies, where the given social inclusion is in harmony, rather it respect and integrate with new economic models based on individual responsibility and group. As has been said and written by many economists is real “economies without money�.

Gli abitanti delle Transition Town, devono passare attraverso una accettazione da parte di un social network gestito dalle amministrazioni con le aziende, e poi, temporaneamente installati, offrono alla comunità parte del proprio tempo e abilità in cambio dell’usufrutto gratuito di spazi e funzioni di valore estetico e funzionale molto alto, entrando così in un circuito di utilità sociale repiproca. Gli spazi sono catterizzati da alto valore aggiunto mediante smart technologies, e gestite dai relativi comuni, attraverso un mix di domotica, permacultura, autoproduzione energetica, agricoltura verticale, baby sitting, assistenza agli anziani, manutenzione, analisi dei flussi e delle reti disponibili a fenomeni di riciclo e alla mappatura

di comunità e individui con valori condivisi.

In tal modo, in via preliminare, si ipotizzano possibili termini di un nuovo management urbano in società complesse, in cui il dato sociale dell’inclusione non confligga, anzi si confronti e si integri con nuovi modelli economici basati sulla responsabilità individuale e di gruppo. Come è stato detto e scritto da molti economisti si tratta di vere e proprie “Economie senza denaro”.

The foundational relationship sought is that which binds the guarantee of flexibility rather wide, is now absolutely necessary, with the ability to be recognizable and identifiable, not only in a pragmatic sense, but mainly in the sense of permanence in the memory of the people who live there although in presence of a social rather whirling and unstable process.

Il progetto si basa sulla ricerca di un abaco architettonico frutto del mix fra elementi costruttivi figurativi e tipologici e delle loro permutazioni per offrire riconoscibilità, facilità d’uso e una accettabile praticabilità e gestione del complesso edilizio.

In termini semantici/estetici Transition Town va dal semplice al complesso attraverso l’adozione del mix tipologico corte, schiera, linea e l’ibridazione del rapporto spazio-funzioni e tipologiemorfolgie mediante permutazione dei segni costitutivi. Uno spostamento lessicale che tenta di difendere l’insediamento urbano dalla obsolescenza a cui è destinata l’edilizia nel nostro paese per l’assenza di un approccio anche estetico verso la nuova città.
