Perfect Homemade Burgers It’s definitely BBQ season and you can’t beat the taste of a homemade burger. This recipe is just 6 ingredients and takes less than 20 minutes to make so you won’t be tied to the kitchen. This recipe is using beef mince but you can easily substitute it for turkey mince for a more leaner option without losing any of the taste. These burgers can be cooked on the BBQ, under the grill, fried or in the oven. Sandwich your burger between a floury bap or a ciabatta roll, top with fresh lettuce, sliced tomatoes, red onion, cheese and a spread of relish. These will be loved by adults and children alike Top tip: The eggs and breadcrumbs aren’t essential but will help bind the ingredients together. Serves 4 Ingredients • 500g good quality mince • Good pinch of oregano • 1tsp salt • Pinch of black pepper • handful of breadcrumbs or 2 slices of bread • 1 egg, lightly beaten Method 1.
Place the ingredients in a large bowl and mix together or whizz all the ingredients in a food processor until the mixture starts holding together.

Shape the burgers into round flat discs with wet hands. To get perfectly round shapes, press the mixture into a metal pastry cutter. Don’t over-handle the burgers

Place the burgers on the barbecue or in a frying pan and cook until they’re done all the way through and there’s no pinkness in the middle. To check this, press down the top of a burger with a fish slice - if there are pink juices oozing out, then cook for a few more minutes.

Serve on a lightly toasted ciabatta with salad and toppings and enjoy!!!

Telephone: 01983 289595 - Email: paulfulleriw@gmail.com Litter, Gurnard Green - I received a number of complaints concerning the accumulation of litter on Gurnard Green. In light of the warmer weather this year, in 2018 Gurnard Parish Council will consider starting next year’s contract earlier. In addition, an extra collection from litter bins on the Green will to take place each week, whilst a request has been made to request bigger, animal proofed bins for the future. In the meantime, The Red Bin has now reverted to weekly collections. A very big thank you to residents who continue to litter-pick both the Green and Gurnard Beach. Cowes Floating Bridge - In my role as Chairman of the Council’s Scrutiny Committee a meeting, an update was provided on the new Floating Bridge. From the meeting six recommendations were made. These being: · The Committee welcomes a proposed review being undertaken by PriceWaterhouseCooper (The Isle of Wight Council auditors) into problems being experienced with the new vessel. · The time frame for the review should be decided as soon as possible, and Councillors and the public be advised of this. (6 months was considered the correct time frame).
· Local Members, both Town Councils & Business Associations should be kept fully advised of any issues. Since this meeting, I’ve attended a public meeting in East Cowes, and have offered support to residents. Gurnard Neighbourhood Plan - The Plan has received validation, and should be supported by cabinet on 13th July. Of relevance is acceptance of the Jordan Valley as a green gap between Cowes and Gurnard. At the moment, the Referendum is due to take place early September. Disposable Barbecues - If you do use a disposable barbecue please ensure the following: · It is imperative that they are placed on an even surface on either bricks or paving slabs. · Place disposable BBQs well away from the house, shed, fences, beach huts… · Do not use disposable barbecues near or on benches or picnic tables.

The only problem I had was deciding which of her photos to use as they were all amazing but there was just something about the ‘poppy’ that caught my eye and in an instant I knew this was the one for August. Tara was born on the Island but moved to London 20 years ago to further her career in the fashion industry. The stress and city life was no match for the laidback Isle of Wight and after a few years Tara decided to move back to the Island. So far Tara had not shown a real passion for photography and was quite happy to continue taking photos with her compact camera but that all changed when her friend lent her a DSLR camera and Tara took some photos of the red arrows over the Solent. She was then hooked and went and brought her own camera and so her photography journey began... Tara works full time in Newport and in her spare time she does wedding dress alterations but always ensures she finds time to get out and about to different locations across the Island with her camera. Tara doesn’t have a particular style but does prefer wildlife and landscapes and she also enjoys the editing side which allows her to turn really good images into fantastic photos. A big thank you to Tara for allowing Island Magazines to use her photo and I am sure we will be featuring more of her work in the future.
