News Report from Cllr Paul Fuller - 74 Wyatts Lane, Cowes, PO31 8QA. Telephone: 01983 289595 - Email: paulfulleriw@gmail.com Cowes Week - The biggest complaints received for Cowes Week was concerning parking. In one road a resident complained about their driveway being obstructed (by a neighbour!). Following action taken, further complaints were received regarding ‘excessive’ ticketing. Please note tickets are often issued as a result of non-enforcement.
Vacancies for Councillors remain on Gurnard Parish Council - Please contact Parish Clerk, Sue Waters at: gurnardparishcouncil@ gmail.com. Locally, vacancies also exist on Northwood Parish Council.
On the seafront, I received complaints concerning parked high-sided vehicles. As such, there are no restrictions in place preventing this. This follows residents’ feedback taken several years ago.
Parklands Avenue - I continue to find it hard to contain my excitement by the prospect of most of Parklands Avenue being resurfaced. Last month Island Roads Mobile Visitor Centre visited and spoke to twenty local residents.
In the coming weeks I will be speaking to officers to discuss what for next year can be done better, and whether there is scope for improvements. On subject, please feel free to share your thoughts!
Reconstruction should commence on Thursday 17th August lasting 3 weeks, whilst carriage resurfacing will commence from Thursday 14th September. Timescales may of course change... Fingers crossed!
Gurnard Neighbourhood Plan - 7am-10pm, Thursday 7th September, Gurnard Village Hall.
Blackberry Lane - In preparation of darker evenings and children returning to school, I’ve requested Blackberry Lane was risk assessed. Following a greater number of pedestrians using this IW Council owned road, I’ve requested further site meetings and more to be done to mitigate against risks.
Following support from Planning Inspectors and the IW Council, this will go to referendum on 7am-10pm, Thursday 7th September. This gives residents the final say on Gurnards Plan giving ‘strategic’ planning guidance for Gurnard for coming years. Only registered electors of Gurnard are entitled to vote. If you questions let me or Sue Waters (gurnardparishcouncil@gmail.com) know. Details can be found at: www. gurnardneighbourhoodplan.org.uk/wpcontent/uploads/2012/06/10-Final-DraftGurnard-neighbourhood-development-plan. pdf Parish/ Town Council Vacancies Congratulations to Anni Adams, Stuart Ellis and Vanessa Slade co-opted to Cowes Town Council in July.

The Range - Planners, The Range and Island Roads are working positively to improve visibility splays from the stores car park. In addition, pedestrian access is scheduled to be improved by provision of a refuge to be located in Place Road. This is planned to occur later this year. Garden Waste Update - Amey and the IW Council are currently ‘modelling’ opportunities to potentially introduce a Wheelie Bin Subscription Service for collection of Garden Waste. If agreed, this will occur within the next year.
News Report from Cllr Paul Fuller continued Last year, a survey took place and although this was considered preferable to the collection of garden waste collection through biodegradable bags, the response was not as overwhelming as I anticipated. It seems likely that of the two options- only one will be adopted. Please note if two vehicles are used, this significantly increases the cost making the scheme unsustainable. Gurnard Green - A site meeting took place last month. This followed the Parish Council identifying a risk to vehicles potentially rolling down the Green towards the play area below. In light of a request from residents and the Parish Council, IW Council officers suggested anchoring boulders to safeguard against this occurring. Because of how cars park, the gradient of land, how it falls away and the size of boulders to be used, officers are looking into options with Island Roads. Another option, was to consider installing a safety barrier. Again, this will be investigated, and assurances given that this mitigates against any risk. Outcomes will be reported to September’s Parish Council. Skid Resistance - Within Gurnard and Cowes improvements have been undertaken in recent weeks to enhance skid resistance to roads in the area. Particularly welcomed are works to Rew Street and Cockleton Lane following concerns regarding cyclist and pedestrian safety in these roads. Public Footpaths - Bicycles continue to damage the Gurnard to Thorness public footpath. Please note this causes irreparable damage which may lead to restricted access to the hundreds of walkers enjoying this stretch of coast.

Happy Birthday to The Liquidator 16 Pyle St, Newport PO30 1JW
Since opening their doors 2 years ago, The Liquidator has grown in size, is holding more stock than ever and has just taken over a large contract which will see a great range of furniture, tools and DIY items coming to their Newport premises very shortly. Open Monday - Saturday 9am - 5pm . All credit cards accepted
The Liquidator works alongside ex-catalogue stores and takes delivery of their stock to be sold at competitive prices. Redundant stock, deleted lines and goods with damaged packaging can be found in their showroom. All the items are new and range from pictures, mirrors, sofas, seating, furniture to shelving and laundry baskets. They have recently taken a delivery of sofas from Homebase and Argos and have a great range of items from Laura Ashley. All their stock are limited pieces and the stock turns around quickly and the best advice owner Tony can give is “if you see it and want it make sure you buy it there and then, because the next time you come in it will probably be gone” Based at 16 Pyle Street, Newport, PO30 1JW, they are open Monday to Saturday from 9am – 5pm. They now accept all credit cards including American Express and also offer an Island wide delivery service. 1 person delivery is £10 and 2 person delivery is £20 anywhere on the Island. They also do stock clearance for retail businesses that are closing down and Tony is happy to come and discuss your requirements. Keep up to date with their new stock deliveries by following them on Facebook. 6

People often ask me ‘how do I know if I need a chiropractor?!’ My answer is always ‘can you live your life doing what you want to do, comfortably and healthily? If not come and see us for a free spine check and we will tell you what we can do to help you feel fitter and live your life to the full’ As McTimoney chiropractic is a whole body approach to chiropractic care there is no typical patient or condition that we treat – it might be a guitarist wanting help with a painful wrist, an unsettled baby who has had a difficult birth or an 80 year old that wants to be able to dig their garden more comfortably. Other common presenting conditions include simple low back pain, stiff necks, migraines and everything else in between. If we think that chiropractic care is not the solution to the presenting problem we will always tell you and suggest an alternative treatment. If we do think we can help you we will treat you as little as possible to get you and keep you as well as we possibly can.
We look forward to seeing you soon at Cowes Chiropractic Clinic! For more information see our advert above or call us on 282810 to book an appointment.

A Holly Maslen Front Cover Here at Island Magazines we have been very lucky to have the wonderfully creative Holly Maslen allow us to use one of her designs on the front cover. I’m sure you will agree that her pen and ink designs are beautiful and she had many to choose from and this one just caught our eye and was just perfect for us. Holly has worked for many years as a marine artist but decided to go back to her childhood style of pen and ink work, drawing and designing exclusively in black and white. Over the last five years she has worked on many projects including sixteen murals for the Isle of Wight Zoo, a mural in Sloane Square for fashion designer Charlotte Taylor and an exhibition of drawings at Freud in London to accompany the publication of her illustrated book “Escargot Masquerade & Other Stories”. Smaller scale projects have included t-shirt designs for skate company Wight Trash and her own scarves and pocket squares sold via the international Japanese designer Masato. In 2016 Holly opened a gallery in Bembridge for six months, showcasing the work of over 30 Island Artists and now runs another gallery in Bembridge called Mini Big Art on Embankment Road which is open 12-4pm Wednesday through to Sunday. After a break of a year Holly has started designing again in her customary black and white style and will be bringing out a range of products next month. To find out more about her work, and the gallery, have a look at her website www.hollyvmaslen.com

Slimming World’s plan doesn’t feel like a diet. The eating plan encourages you to eat lots of tasty, filling foods like pasta, rice, potatoes and lean meat and fish. You are never hungry and no foods are banned so there’s no deprivation. Support is also a key part of any Slimming World group. As someone who has lost weight herself, she knows the challenges people can face, which is why, along with the group, she will be there to support every one of her members all the way to their chosen target weight. Setting targets, sharing recipes and other ideas and working together as a group to overcome challenges and celebrate success is so important to successful weight loss. Wendy runs Slimming World groups at Gurnard Primary School on Mondays at 5.30pm and 7.30 pm and at Gurnard Pines on Thursdays at 5.30pm and 7.30pm. Yoga by Judith Didham First of all, I would like to say a big thank you to all of you who have attended my Yoga classes in 2017. Normally, of course, we would be resuming classes this month, however I am about to have orthopaedic surgery and have been advised to take a reasonable amount of time to convalesce. Reluctantly, I must therefore not begin my classes again until January 2018. I know this will be disappointing for you but needs must and all that! Normal service will be resumed in the New Year, when we’ll all be in need of some fabulous Yoga to kick start 2018. All classes will begin week commencing Monday 8 January 2018.
