Gutters are an important part of a property, but they can easily get cluttered with leaves, twigs, moss and other items. By keeping them cleared you can ensure the free flowing of rain water. When guttering is blocked the rain water will over flow and will eventually cause damage to the structural elements of the building, water will erode the building material and can ultimately cause damage to the foundations, drainage system and the paving. Internally, damp will appear and create mold and mildew that is not only bad for the building but also your health.
Have you got Gutter Clutter?
Over flowing gutters can cause problems with damp, erosion & even subsidence. We can quickly clear guttering up to 12 meters from ground level, using the latest technology of the SkyVac Gutter Clearer Pictures provided to show the results. Prices start from just £20 WE ALSO OFFER External Surface Cleaning of drives & patios Decking, fence and garden structure treatments Domestic & Commercial

Town Mayor Report for East Cowes Margaret Webster The Town Council has appointed a Planning Consultant, who has proved invaluable. On 1st October the Town Council held a planning meeting to discuss the Red Funnel Regeneration Application. Approximately 80 residents attended and the meeting proved very productive. After the one hour question and answer period, the Town Councillors then discussed their opinions on the application. Having listened to all the comments made and with the professional advice given during the meeting and to us in our discussion it was resolved to write to the IW Planning Officer, Mr Gildersleeves, with the Town Councils resolve. “The Town Council could not make an informed position on this application for two reasons; 1. The Red Line, it does not show the application site as the Highway issues are outside of this and form a fundamental part of the application. This along with the removal on the plans of a roundabout not part of the application, could leave the applicant’s exposed to a judicial review. 2. Tied in with this was noted that comments by Island Roads, as these are fundamental to the entire application this information was required , because of this the TC were unable to comment on something so fundamental to the application. Needless to say we did have many reservations, loss of employment, size of the Marshalling Yard, no footpaths to encourage access to the Town, Slipway Access, Operational times, Housing, affordable housing, Educational and other contributions, Flood Risk Assessment. We now await the Planning departments reply.
The fencing around the Children’s Play Area on the Esplanade has now been completed. This was a requirement by ROSPA. It now looks very attractive and will help keep our children safe. The Supporters of the Amy White Theatre held a concert by the “White Hot Pipes” on the 10th October. It proved popular once again, a great evening enjoyed by all present. Thank you to the supporters who support all year. All funds raised are enabling the refurbishment of the Theatre within the Town Hall – named The Amy WhiteTheatre. Forthcoming Events:Sat. 5th December – Christmas Charity Table top, Father Christmas has been invited, also Children’s activities, Refreshments. Look out for posters. Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th December – Christmas Pantomime – Cinderella. There are several local Residents and children taking part. Do come along and support your community. Tickets will be available from 1st December, again look out for the posters. INFORMATION. Please Note:- East Cowes Town Council Meetings now start at 6.30p.m on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Next Town Council Meeting will be on Thursday 19th November at 6.30p.m.

Christmas is fast approaching and this lead up time to the big event is when most people go online and start ordering presents. This is a brilliant way to get Christmas sorted if you are short on time or just don’t want the hassle of finding parking and trudging around the shops. The only drawback is that you will probably be working when the parcels start being delivered. Think how much easier life would be if you had somewhere safe the parcel could be delivered and then collected at your convenience. This was the same question Post Room Plus asked themselves and is why they offer a “Parcel Keep Safe” service. If you are expecting a delivery you request that the parcel be delivered to their shop address at 21a Lugley Street, Newport PO30 5HD and they will keep it safe and secure until you are able to collect it. Its as simple as that… This is just one of the many services Post Room Plus offer and don’t forget they can also send letters and parcels for you which is perfect if you have presents to send to friends and family overseas. To find out more about their “Parcel Keep Safe” service and the many other services go to their website at www. postroomplusisleofwight.co.uk or call them on 01983 779677 for more information. 11

Councillor Luisa Hillard – County Councillor for East Cowes. Phone/text: 07964 869341 or email luisa.hillard@iow.gov.uk Council Life has been very busy in the past month. The Town Signage Project has finally overcome the legal and planning issues that we encountered and the final signs and map boards should be installed soon. I don’t think that members of the committee ever expected that this would take so long but the end is finally in sight. Eccleston George, the artists who are to build a WWI memorial sculpture in Kings Square, will be going into local schools to run a time capsule project. These time capsules will be placed inside the sculpture for future generations to discover. The chain arch has been completed for some time and should soon be installed between the two Co-ops.
Please be aware that drivers are tempted to go faster on roads in a good condition. Some time ago I asked Island Roads to provide a replacement lamp for the Shedden Fountain and they have a selection available for the Friends of East Cowes to choose from, so I expect that in the near future this will be done, fitted and the fountain restored. On the 9th October the consultation period for the Red Funnel hybrid planning application ended. I have read many of your comments and will be representing the town at the Planning Committee meeting, which I expect will take place in January.
The new waste contract starts on the 1st November. The procurement of this contract has been one of my responsibilities as a In October I asked residents to make me member of the Council’s Executive so I am aware of any highway issues in my ward confident that it will be a positive legacy for (everything North of Yarborough Road) and I the Island. You will not notice many immediate used this extensive list to take representatives changes but a green bin insert for paper and from Island Roads and the Council on a card, and a black wheelie bin for your black tour to view and discuss the necessary bag waste, will be given once Amey have improvements. Issues included flooding of assessed which properties have room for bins, pedestrian crossings and the school end of or require an alternative ‘gull-proof’ sack. Grange Road, the narrowness and lack of pavements on Old Road, the landslip and Volunteer residents spent the summer months Esplanade, potholes… and many others. collecting evidence of beach users to support Some of these issues have been scheduled an application for our beach to get DEFRA for works and some are on the list of highway Bathing Water Designation and to ensure improvements that will require additional everyone knows the importance of this local funding. community project I have detailed below some facts regarding this. Adelaide Grove has now been resurfaced, following repeated requests from myself Blue flag or bathing water? and the District Steward to do it earlier than scheduled. At the time of writing this the Firstly I think it’s important to distinguish that works are underway but they look good. there is a difference between DEFRA bathing 16
Report from Councillor Luisa Hillard Continued campaign: in order to achieve a blue flag for East Cowes there would be far more involved than for the bathing water designation. This may be where some misinformation may have occurred. At no time would the Town Council be asked to take responsibility for all beach cleaning, which would be necessary if seeking a Blue Flag, but is NOT a requirement of the Designation. The Isle of Wight Council, as the land owner, will continue to meet the statutory duty of daily litter picks on the beach.
I hope that by the time you read this the Town Council will again be in ‘full support’ and the application forms submitted Thank you to everyone who came to the community beach clean on the 24th October. There will be more organised in future, particularly if East Cowes does manage to achieve designation, so look out for posters around town and I will try to mention in my reports.
I attend East Cowes Older/Senior Voices every month (usually third Thursday of the month, 10.30pm at Coburg Court) to meet with In the event of an oil spill, ship wreck or other mature residents and I host a drop in session disaster that affects the beach at East Cowes on the first Thursday of the month at the SeaBreeze Café, 9.15am - 10.15am. the Isle of Wight Council and Environment Agency will work together to resolve it. There will be no risk to the Town Council, although Until next month, kind regards, their help in keeping residents informed Luisa would be appreciated.

Like many I have heard of the Isle of Wight Bat Hospital but I can’t say I know a lot about them so I decided to get in contact with them to learn a little more about these wonderful mammals. The IOW Bat Hospital was founded by Donna and Graham Street and has been active since 1996. The beds in their hospital are always full but they always have vacancies as they will never turn a bat away. All the bats they deal with have been found by members of the public and the majority of them have been injured, with most injuries caused by cats and both Donna and Graham know that it’s only natural for cats to want to play with bats as they have 7 cats themselves so never judge others.
can to stop infections and for more serious injuries they work closely with Dr Ian Green of Green and Forster Veterinary Clinic. The IOW Bat Hospital nurse bats back to health and once they are fully recovered they will be released back to nature where they were found. I found out loads of bat facts and never realised that there are 17 breeding species of bat living in Britain and the most common bat is the pipistrelle and astonishingly this species only weighs between 4g-7g and its head and body is only 3.3cm – 4.8cm (about the size of your thumb) You can visit their website to find more information at www.isleofwightbathospital.org.uk or follow them on Facebook.
If you find a bat, don’t panic, gently pick it up with a gloved hand or with a tea towel and put it in a box which has several air holes in it. I can’t stress how important this is otherwise the bat won’t be able to breathe at Cowes Chiropractic Clinic and will die. Then give Donna and Graham Relax and de-stress and feel the a call on 01983 406756 or 07771 605952 benefits of a massage and they will come straight out and pick the Experienced in dealing with bat up and take it back to the hospital to conditions such as Multiple ascertain its injuries which could range from Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, broken arms, fingers and tears to the wings.

Even if the bat has more holes in its wings than a colander they can still give it antibiotics to help the wing repair itself but it is important they do this as soon as they 18

Resin Stone Driveways Beautiful Surface Overlays - for your driveway What is a Resin Stone Overlay?
BEFOR
E
Resin Stone Overlaying is effectively surfacing over your existing block-paved, tarmac or concrete driveway, path or patio. Resin Overlays provide a highly cost-effective and quick way of replacing the surface in the Garden or on the Driveway. As well as being aesthetically pleasing and highly durable, the benefits include: Being both solvent and odour free, during and after application - Restricting growth of weeds - Eliminating loose stones Being environmentally friendly - Compliance with Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
How is it done?
We initially prepare the existing surface using a high-pressure jet washer system and primer, before applying your chosen resin stone combination. The overlays typically take 1-2 days with minimal inconvenience.
Finishing
We also offer a range of natural or blended stone and surrounding landscaping options including moon stone to truly personalise your resin installation.
