You can read all about Art Therapy on page 5 and on page 6 , if you are a cat owner you can find out how you can help the cat crisis on the Island. The ‘Dates for your Diary’ page is on page 10. The Rotary is appealing to the generosity of Islanders in the hope that you will all be able to support this years Christmas Shoe Box Appeal. The full details are on page 13 and this is a great Charity to help and in doing so you will put a smile on the face of a child at Christmas. Monthly News Report for Carisbrooke by John Hobart. South Farm, Sandy Lane, Whitecroft. E-Mail: john.hobart@iow.gov.uk Mobile: 07717 716 663 On September 9th 2015 Queen Elizabeth ll marked her place in history as the longest serving British monarch of all time. On that day she had ruled for as long as her Great, Great, Grandmother Queen Victoria (63 years, 216 days). Although Queen Elizabeth is not a regular visitor to the Island I feel that through Victoria, her daughter Beatrice and the young Royals, not to mention Prince Phillip a regular past visitor through his love of sailing, that the island has many royal associations. (Especially our own Carisbrooke Castle of course!)

I could totally relate to the sermon given by Canon David Issac, particularly as he described watching the Coronation on a massive television with a screen the size of a shoe box….yes I know it shows my age, but I have the same memory!! When you think of how technology has moved on that kind of TV coverage will also never be repeated in the same format!!

On 31st August (Bank Holiday Monday) Gunville Methodist Chapel hosted yet another It seemed appropriate therefore that St successful Fun Day. I attended and there is no doubt that a lot of fun was being had with a Thomas the Apostle and St Thomas of Canterbury, our minster church, should BBQ, stalls, art and craft activities, live music celebrate the event with a dedicated service on and more. It is great to see so many people Sunday 13th September. I was able to attend getting involved in community events and and so glad I did…It was a well organised and much praise must be given to the small group inclusive service. of people who give up their time to organise, run (and clear up after) such events. And particularly nice to see so many Finally, the matters concerning flooding in the of our young in attendance. Helping youAchieve Achieve Helping you your inLife Life your Aims Aims in

I have the Secret Garden colouring book which is combined with an inky treasure hunt and features pictures containing birds, rabbits, insects and animals hidden amongst swirly trees, beautiful gardens and other magical wonders. I can find myself engrossed in colouring for hours at a time or sometimes I can just pick it up and shade a few flowers. There is no set time and you can make the rules up as you go along. Its relaxing and rewarding and you can take it with you wherever you go and its not expensive either. These books are designed to give us a break from the manic world that we live in. Feeling stressed or has your day been frustrating, perhaps you are recuperating, or maybe you just need some you time… whatever the reason Art Therapy could be just what you need. You will find many local shops will be stocking these colouring books or you can order them online like I did from Amazon. Not sure if this is for you? Then why not just colour in the front cover of this magazine and see how you go. Remember there is no right way and no wrong way. Make it your picture.

QUAY STREET MASSAGE CENTRE

Sandy Heward and Steve Baverstock are pleased to announce the opening of the Quay Street Massage Centre in Newport, with the intention of providing a bespoke massage service to people suffering from muscular injuries or from general stress related problems.

They believe that a source of good, professional massage treatments should be available to everyone and not just the privileged few. The simple fact is that massage therapy, used regularly from a professional source, is proven to help boost your physical health, guard against further muscular injuries, and make significant difference to your general well being. They have previously owned a similar business in north Hampshire and when the business was sold in December last year they decided this was the right time to follow their dream and move to the Island.

Quay Street Massage Centre can provide treatments that will help you whether you are old/young, male/female, sporty/unsporting. If you have “aches & pains”, “knocks & pulls”, or “stress & strains”, a good quality massage will help get you back on track, helping you to get the most out of life, whether at home, work, or a chosen hobby. Simply put... anyone and everyone can benefit from regular massage therapy. After a consultation with your therapist, your massage will then be tailor made to suit your own particular needs. Ultrasound Therapy (as used by all professional sports clubs for speedy recovery), is available in conjunction with your massage treatment. Steve & Sandy are pleased to announce that the listed premises at 30 Quay Street is now open to clients. For further details visit their website www.quaystreetmassage.co.uk or see their main advert below.

Newport Parish Council

Newport’s Bloomin’ Green Competition

The alternative gardening competition, that was devised by Cllr Lois Prior in 2012, as part of Newport’s Green Town project, saw a large increase in entries this year from local residents to community groups and schools. Instead of judging the gardens on how many flowers it has, or how glamorous it is, the aim is to encourage Newport and Carisbrooke’s residents to grow gardens that are good for wildlife and for the environment. Past winner Claire Draper, owner and director of The Plant Shop, helped Cllrs Prior and Julie Jones-Evans with the hard task of judging and selecting the winners. Resin Stone Driveways Beautiful Surface Overlays - for your driveway What is a Resin Stone Overlay?

BEFOR

E

Resin Stone Overlaying is effectively surfacing over your existing block-paved, tarmac or concrete driveway, path or patio. Resin Overlays provide a highly cost-effective and quick way of replacing the surface in the Garden or on the Driveway. As well as being aesthetically pleasing and highly durable, the benefits include: Being both solvent and odour free, during and after application - Restricting growth of weeds - Eliminating loose stones Being environmentally friendly - Compliance with Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).

How is it done?

We initially prepare the existing surface using a high-pressure jet washer system and primer, before applying your chosen resin stone combination. The overlays typically take 1-2 days with minimal inconvenience.

Finishing

We also offer a range of natural or blended stone and surrounding landscaping options including moon stone to truly personalise your resin installation.
