Vanuatu A tropical wonderland

Vanuatu calls travellers seeking an escape from the ordinary. This archipelago of 80 islands is a treasure trove of natural wonders, cultural riches, and adventure experiences that are guaranteed to leave a lasting impression on all who visit. From the moment you set foot on its shores, Vanuatu captivates with its stunning landscapes, warm hospitality, and a sense of timelessness that invites you to slow down and immerse yourself in the moment.

Efate: Discover the magic

Every Vanuatu journey begins on the main island of Efate, where the vibrant capital city of Port Vila awaits. This picturesque harbour town pulses with life, its streets lined with colourful markets, restaurants, and a mix of traditional and modern influences. As Vanuatu’s main commercial centre, Port Vila is as ‘city’ as it gets.

From duty-free outlets to locally crafted Vanuatu products, there's something for everyone. Browse through handmade handicrafts, savour artisanal goods like coffee, vanilla and spices, explore the vibrant produce market, or even visit the local distillery. Each offers a unique taste of Vanuatu's culture and flavours. If it happens to be raining, there’s a movie theatre in town. And if your accommodation has self-catering options you may want to pick up supplies. In that case there is a small Au Bon Marché supermarket downtown and a bigger supermarket up the hill from the Grand Hotel and Casino.

In and around Port Vila, visitors can choose from a wide variety of accommodation options. These include large resorts such as the Warwick Le Lagon Vanuatu, Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu, Ramada Resort, and Iririki Island Resort and Spa. For those seeking a more intimate experience, boutique properties like Mangoes Resort, Nasama Resort and Breakas Beach Resort will tick the box.

Around Port Vila

Just a 20 minute drive from Port Vila, the Mele Cascades is one of Vanuatu’s most popular (and convenient) excursions. With a series of breathtaking waterfalls and serene swimming holes nestled in the lush rainforest, it is a cool spot for the hottest of tropical days. Walking to the cascades is an adventure in itself – as you navigate the winding trails, breathe in the fresh air, and let the sounds of nature serenade you. Once you reach the falls, plunge into the refreshing pools, feel the mist on your skin, and bask in the tranquillity of this hidden oasis.

For an adrenaline rush, Efate offers a myriad of thrilling activities. Soar through the treetops on a zipline, gallop on horseback along pristine beaches, or take to the skies for a bird's-eye view of the island's stunning landscapes. Glass-bottom boat tours provide a window into the underwater realm without getting wet, while fishing enthusiasts can book their spot on a charter for the chance to reel in the catch of a lifetime.

Horse trek adventures

If you're after a unique outdoor adventure, horse trekking at Club Hippique is fun for all. Set on a 400-hectare fully operational beef cattle ranch that features a rainforest, copra plantation, and saltwater lagoon, you'll explore the lush tropical landscape on horseback. There are a variety of rides to choose from, including a day-long adventure starting at 10am, which features a swim at Blue Lagoon, interaction with baby turtles at Reef Zoology, and ends with a horseback ride and swim at Etmat Bay. The Island Ride offers a 2-hour journey through rainforests, village gardens, and the beach of Etmat Bay with a chance to swim with horses, while The Tropical Ride is a 1-hour ride through rainforests and fields to the main bay of Etmat (without swimming). Remember to wear appropriate clothing (jeans or long trousers), close-toed shoes, and bring a hat, reef-friendly sunscreen, and water.

Zipping along

One of Vanuatu's top adventures (literally) is ziplining with Vanuatu Jungle Zipline. Their Combo Tour is a full four-hour experience where you'll conquer three of Vanuatu's most thrilling attractions. Begin with the jaw-dropping Canyon Swing, a daring free-fall that will get your heart racing. Next, soar through the lush tropical canopy on their Zipline, which includes six ziplines totalling over 1km in length. This offers an adrenalinepumping journey and a bird's-eye view of Vanuatu's stunning landscapes. Finally, traverse the awe-inspiring Skybridge, which provides unmatched panoramic vistas. The Combo Tour promises an unforgettable day of adrenaline-charged fun, and transfers from select hotels are included.

Magic Mud: Volcanic Earth

When you travel to other countries, it's always nice to bring home souvenirs that remind you of your trip. With Volcanic Earth, you can take home something that not only serves as a memento but also makes a difference to your well-being long after you arrive back home!

This natural skincare brand has made a name for itself across the world with its innovative products that tap into the benefits of homegrown ingredients like volcanic ash, pumice, virgin coconut oil, pure Tamanu oil, and hibiscus. By making a purchase, visitors are helping support communities across the islands. The Volcanic Earth shop is located on the Kumul Highway - on the way to Warwick Le Lagon. If you'd like to experience the products firsthand, the Volcanic Earth Day Spa (next to the shop) has a full range of luscious treatments.

Playing with fire

Like many South Pacific islands, Vanuatu has its own captivating tradition of fire dancing. While today's performances often feature modern twists, they remain incredibly entertaining and impressive, showcasing the skill and artistry of the dancers. One of the best places to witness this enchanting spectacle is at The Beach Bar on Mele Bay, where every Friday night, after Happy Hour sunset drinks (5-6pm), the venue puts on their famous Friday Night Fire Show.

The show features a talented group from Wan Smal Bag Theatre, who have been trained by volunteer English circus performer, Rik Hinton. Under his guidance, they have mastered the art of spinning fire sticks, fire poi, fire hula hoops, and even the breathtaking skill of fire breathing. Set to cool contemporary dance music, their performance is a spectacular display that you won't find anywhere else in the Pacific. The show is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.

From Cane to Cocktail: 83 Islands Distillery

Vanuatu probably isn't the first place you'd expect to see a premium quality distillery. But with locally grown ingredients (namely sugar cane) in supply, 83 Islands Distillery is making serious waves in the world of spirits. (Including a couple of silvers at the London Spirit Awards). Rum is their speciality, but they also create small batches of Gin, Orangecello and Coffee Liqueur.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the art of rum-making with a visit to the distillery, where the process behind the pure cane rum, proudly 100% Vanuatu made, is unveiled. Tours are available Monday to Friday at 9.30am, 11am, 1.30pm, and 3pm, each lasting approximately one hour, including the tasting session.

For a more casual experience, the cellar door tasting offers a variety of spirits and liquors to sample while getting insights from one of the team members. The tasting tray includes six different spirits or liquors and takes about 30 minutes. On top of that, their tasting bar has stunning lagoon views, and offers signature cocktails and a menu featuring locally produced spirits and liqueurs.

Tanna: A land of fire

For those craving a more off-the-beaten track adventure, the island of Tanna calls with its raw, untamed beauty. This is an island where nature reigns supreme, and the immense power of the earth is on full display. The highlight is of course, Mount Yasur, an active volcano that rumbles and roars, sending plumes of smoke and ash into the sky. Witnessing the majesty of this volcano is an unforgettable experience, whether you choose to hike to the crater's edge or admire its fury from a distance!

Tanna's rugged coastline is home to hidden gems and the Blue Cave is one of the absolute must-sees. Here sunlight filters through an opening in the rock, casting an almost divine blue glow on the water below. Visitors can dive into the luminescent pool, swim beneath the rocky archway, and emerge on the other side to find a secret beach where time seems to stand still.

Inland, visitors will discover Tanna's lush rainforests, where cascading waterfalls and ancient banyan trees create a Jurassic Park like landscape. Experiencing the island's rich cultural heritage should be part of this journey. Life is still lived by cultural values that have been passed down over thousands of years. On a village visit, you’ll witness captivating dances, listen to the haunting sounds of the conch shell, and gain a deeper understanding of the customs and beliefs that shape the lives of the Tannese people.

Volcano Island Divers: Underwater Wonders

Scuba divers will be in heaven in Tanna, and the best way to experience these underwater wonders is with Volcano Island Divers based out of White Grass Ocean Resort and Spa. They have made it their mission to open the world-class reefs of Tanna to the global diving community. What awaits is an unspoiled, untouched, and unbelievable aquatic experience.

Tanna's volcanic nature means there is virtually no fresh water runoff –meaning exceptional visibility and dramatic marine landscapes. Divers can explore caves, reef walls, amazing swim-throughs, and caverns, all while encountering a myriad of creatures and critters. The island's resident green sea turtles and dugong are big attractions, while macro lovers will be thrilled by the abundance of "little critters" found at several dive sites.

Volcano Island Divers has full PADI Dive Centre accreditation, and provides a full menu of PADI courses – from blowing bubbles in the swimming pool right through to highly advanced open water courses.

Tanna Coffee: Your island fix

For coffee lovers and travellers seeking a true taste of Vanuatu, put Tanna Coffee at the top of your list. The small coffee plantation produces some of the purest and most flavoursome Arabica beans in the world! The volcanic soils, sunshine, and rainfall create the perfect environment for growing the coffee, while the traditional organic and sustainable farming practices handed down over centuries ensure that every sip is satisfying and good for the environment.

Visiting the Tanna Coffee plantation is a unique experience that allows visitors to witness the passion and dedication of the local farmers who pour their hearts into every bean. You'll learn about the meticulous process of natural fermentation, sun drying, sameday processing, and local roasting that captures the essence of this premium product. And, of course, you'll have the opportunity to taste the difference for yourself! If you can't make it to Tanna in person, don't fret, Tanna Coffee is brewed all over Vanuatu – plus you can take it home with you too!

Santo: Peaceful paradise

For visitors seeking a true escape from the modern world, the island of Santo is a dream come true. This unspoiled paradise boasts some of the most beautiful and secluded beaches in the South Pacific, where powdery white sand meets turquoise waters in a breathtaking display of nature's beauty.

Champagne Beach is the crown jewel of Santo, a stretch of pristine shoreline that seems too perfect to be real. Here, you can sink your toes into powder-soft sand, bask in the warm sun, and let the gentle waves wash over you.

The land surrounding Champagne Beach is traditionally owned by local families, and they have kept this serene shoreline developmentfree. All you'll find are a few makeshift shelters that serve as shops when cruise ship passengers come ashore – the only time the beach gets busy. Otherwise, there's an excellent chance you'll have this magical place to yourself. Our advice? Pack a picnic and make the most of it or head to Port Olry just 10 minutes north and enjoy lunch at one of the beach side restaurants.

Santo's underwater world is equally mesmerising, with an abundance of vibrant coral reefs, sea life, and World War II wrecks. It's no surprise that divers were the first regular tourists to visit Santo. For underwater explorers, diving the SS President Coolidge is a must. This World War II shipwreck has become a mecca for divers from around the globe. Swim through the ghostly remains of the ship, encountering a wealth of marine life that now calls this underwater museum home.

Million Dollar Point provides another diving highlight reel. This spot is where the US Army discarded military equipment at the end of World War II, and it is a treasure trove of relics, featuring an array of abandoned tanks, bulldozers, cranes, and other machinery. The site also boasts the wreck of the El Retiro, a trading and salvage vessel that adds to the site's mystique. As you explore the seafloor, you'll be transported back in time, surrounded by the remnants of history.

Matevulu Blue Hole
Diving the SS Coolidge

Continuing with the water theme, Santo's famous Blue Holes are a must-see. These natural wonders boast crystal-clear waters in shades of blue that seem almost otherworldly. The Nanda Blue Hole, Matevulu Blue Hole, Riri Blue Hole, and Hog Harbour Blue Hole are just a few of the many hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Each swimming hole offers a unique experience, from rope swings and platforms for jumping in to secluded spots perfect for a relaxing swim.

Whether you're looking for adventure or simply a refreshing escape from the sun, Santo's Blue Holes have something for everyone. Take a kayak trip along a tidal river to reach the Nanda Blue Hole, or hire a 4WD to access the more remote Matevulu and Hog Harbour Blue Holes. With entrance fees ranging from 500 to 1000 VUV (approximately $6.50 to $13 NZD), these natural wonders are an affordable and unforgettable addition to your Vanuatu itinerary.

Santo: Exploring the Millennium Cave

Hidden in the heart of Santo, the Millennium Cave is a must-visit destination for adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike. As the largest cave system in Vanuatu, it offers an unforgettable journey that combines trekking, scrambling, and swimming through a breathtaking underground world.

The adventure begins with a 45-minute drive from Luganville, followed by a short walk through lush forests that lead to the cave entrance. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by towering caverns, majestic waterfalls, and crystal-clear pools that showcase the raw beauty of nature.

Guided by expert local guides, the Millennium Cave tour is a challenging yet rewarding experience. Adventurers will navigate through a network of tunnels and caverns, discovering hidden wonders at every turn. The rugged terrain and refreshing river swim provide the perfect balance of excitement and relaxation, immersing visitors in the untouched wilderness of Vanuatu.

Exploration awaits

Vanuatu is a destination that rewards those who venture off the beaten path. Here, things move at a slower pace. The focus is on enjoying 'the now' rather than rushing through it. Visitors are encouraged to take the time to chat with the friendly locals, learn about their customs and traditions, and gain a new perspective on what truly matters in life.

Vanuatu captivates the heart and ignites the imagination. From the vibrant energy of Port Vila to the rugged beauty of Tanna and the unspoiled paradise of Santo, each island offers a unique blend of adventure, culture, and natural wonder.

Whether travellers are seeking an action-packed family vacation, a romantic escape, or a chance to disconnect from the world and reconnect with themselves, Vanuatu invites people to pack their bags, leave their worries behind, and embark on a journey to this hidden gem of the South Pacific.

Fiji Tourism Exchange 2024 Record growth and a bright future

Anyone who has visited Fiji over the last 12 months will have noticed how busy it has been. And those observations were confirmed at Fijian Tourism Exchange (FTE) 2024 held in early May.

The two-day event was filled with workshops and networking opportunities for over 550 delegates (an increase of 10% from 2023) - with tourism operators, international buyers, and media representatives all wanting to explore Fiji's unique offerings and build the all-important relationships that drive business.

At the opening, Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill shared some impressive numbers. In 2023, Fiji welcomed around 929,740 tourists, primarily from Australia, New Zealand, North America, the UK, and China. These visitors stayed an average of 9.5 nights, maintained occupancy rates between 70-80%, and contributed a substantial FJD$3.3 billion to the local economy.

Hill attributed the success to the engaging 'Where Happiness Comes Naturally' marketing campaign, a refreshed Fiji tourism website, and strong partnerships. He also highlighted the value of key eventsthe 2024 calendar already includes the Spartan Race, NRL Match,

GoPro Summit, Corona Fiji Pro Surfing Competition, and Adventure Next - all showcasing the best of what Fiji has to offer.

On top of that, Fiji is also making big strides in sustainability. Initiatives like the 'If You Can't Bin It, Bag It' cleanup campaign and partnerships focused on waste management demonstrated Fiji's commitment to being a responsible steward of the environment. With visitor arrivals projected to increase by 4-6.5% in 2024, bringing in between 966,929 and 989,940 tourists, Fiji's tourism sector is well-positioned for continued growth.

FTE 2024 was once again an incredible event to be a part of. It was great to see and meet with such a wide array of operators offering top-quality products, which is at the heart of Fiji's current and future growth in the tourism sector. The passion and dedication on display was truly inspiring.

Outrigger completes major upgrade

OUTRIGGER Fiji Beach Resort has announced the completion of its extensive multi-million dollar transformation to it signature Coral Coast property. This significant upgrade blends modern amenities with authentic Fijian charm across the resort's 40 acres, featuring 253 revamped rooms and suites that provide guests with a tranquil beachfront sanctuary.

The transformation introduces a new "Premium Ocean View" room category and renovated public areas, including the main buffet restaurant and lobby. Families don’t miss out either – they can enjoy a new waterslide at the main pool area, while the OUTRIGGER Adventure Park offers thrilling activities such as paintball and archery. Cultural experiences like the 'Sip and Paint' session and 'Butu Vatu' add to the resort's authentic Fijian vibe.

To further enhance guest experiences, OUTRIGGER has introduced the 'OUTRIGGER Adventure Pass,' granting all-inclusive access to various resort activities. Established in 2020 as a Charitable Trust, the foundation actively manages conservation efforts at both Malolo Island Resort and Likuliku Lagoon Resort, as well as the privately leased Mociu Island.

One of their most important projects is the successful Fiji Crested Iguana breeding and reforestation programme, which they run in partnership with international organisations like the US Geological Survey and San Diego Zoo. Another important initiative is their work with the MARS organisation on the Reef Star project, which aims to restore damaged coral reefs.

Closer to home, the foundation improves the lives of Malolo Island communities by funding educational facilities, water infrastructure, and energy solutions. Barefoot Resorts champion conservation

Sitting in the stunning Yasawa Islands, Barefoot Manta and Barefoot Kuata Island Resorts are at the forefront of marine conservation, making a significant contribution to the preservation of the region's marine biodiversity. These resorts have brought in six qualified Fijian marine biologists who lead comprehensive conservation initiatives that are essential for maintaining healthy marine ecosystems. Plus, they involve extensive community engagement and education to ensure local support and participation.

At the heart of their conservation strategy is the development and management of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). These areas, endorsed by local chiefs and governed under traditional 'Tabu' areas, limit fishing activities to help marine life and habitats recover. This supports the regeneration of coral and fish populations beyond their boundaries, which in turn benefits nearby areas.

The success of these conservation efforts also provide a boost to the local economy by increasing tourism and creating job opportunities, with visitors to the resorts often describing it as the best reef encounter in Fiji!

Plantation Island help create revolutionary rescue reef

On 8 June, Plantation Island Resort and local NGO Corals for Conservation (C4C) launched the UNESCO-endorsed BULA Reef nursery to celebrate World Ocean Day. BULA Reef, located off Plantation Island Resort on Malolo Lailai (Mamanuca Group), is now the largest rescue reef of its kind, featuring over a thousand heatadapted "super corals." These corals were collected from areas under extreme heat stress, where they were at risk of dying due to an approaching marine heat wave. Most of the corals left behind died within months.

BULA Reef is part of the Reefs of Hope programme by C4C, the first coral-focused climate change adaptation programme endorsed by the UN. This effort has been formally recognised by UNESCO within its Ocean Decade of Action. Unlike traditional coral gardening, the programme uses heat-adapted corals and natural recovery processes. Fish help maintain the nurseries and restoration sites, enhancing coral health and reducing costs. An amazing initiative, well done to all.

Guests are welcome to see the sanctuary (and iguanas) for themselves. This includes a tour of breeding cages and the dry forest habitat, which is led by Likuliku's Environment Manager.

Location

Likuliku Lagoon Resort sits on Malolo Island, around 25 km from Nadi International Airport. A one-hour ferry ride or 40-minute speedboat ride takes visitors from Port Denarau to the resort. Helicopter or seaplane flights are faster and offer mesmerising views if your budget can stretch. Likuliku is on Malolo Island's southeast coast, looking out to Castaway Island and a short boat trip from tiny Mociu (Honeymoon Island) and Monuriki, the location for the Tom Hanks film, Castaway

Mociu Private Island

In 2018, Likuliku Lagoon Resort secured the lease of Mociu Island—a tiny, uninhabited island that is only a 15-minute boat ride from the resort. The island provides couples with the ultimate private getaway. Spend a couple of hours snorkelling the pristine reef surrounding the island. Watch the sunrise while enjoying a delicious champagne breakfast. Or choose a romantic private picnic that will long live in memory.

The Distillery Co Fiji: A Family's Passion for Crafting Spirits

In the heart of Pacific Harbour, a family-owned distillery is making waves in the world of craft spirits.

The Distillery Co Fiji, founded by two brothers with deep roots in the island nation, is the first of its kind in Fiji. The idea for the distillery was born during their mother's 80th birthday celebration at the family home, and it has since grown into a thriving business that is putting Fiji on the map for premium, locally-crafted spirits.

The brothers' connection to Fiji runs deep, with their great-grandfathers arriving in the mid-19th century. One came to catalogue Fiji's flora, while the other, an engineer from Birmingham, helped construct the country's first sugar mill. Their love for Fiji was so strong that they decided to make it their permanent home.

From grass to glass: The Distillery Co Fiji's approach

What sets The Distillery Co Fiji apart from many other distillers is their commitment to creating their products from scratch. Instead of buying ethanol, they ferment molasses and produce their own ethanol in-house at their Pacific Harbour distillery.

This approach is not only a nod to Fiji's long history of sugar cane production but also a way to support the local economy. By using a byproduct of the sugar industry to create world-class spirits, The Distillery Co Fiji is helping to breathe new life into a sector that has faced challenges in recent years.

Blue Turtle Gin: A taste of Fiji

One of the distillery's flagship products is Blue Turtle Gin, which was created as a tribute to the brothers' great-grandfather, Jacob Storck, who came to Fiji to catalogue its flora. The gin features a unique blend of traditional botanicals like juniper berries and coriander seeds, as well as distinctly Fijian ingredients such as yaqona (kava), lailai (local ginger root), moli kula (local wild citrus), and curry leaf.

Developing the recipe for Blue Turtle Gin was a labour of love, with the team working their way up from a 2-litre lab still to a 20-litre still and finally to a 600-litre production still. The result is a bold, full-bodied gin that captures the essence of Fiji and has quickly gained a devoted following both locally and internationally. From July 2024, Blue Turtle Gin will be served on Fiji Airways and is already the house gin at most major resorts.

VulaViti Vodka: Fiji's first vodka

VulaViti Vodka holds the distinction of being the first vodka to be distilled in Fiji. Made from molasses using a unique fermentation process that reduces esters (flavour compounds), VulaViti Vodka undergoes a rigorous distillation process involving both a large pot still and a double reflux still. This results in a high-grade, clean ethanol that is then proofed to create the final vodka.

The end product is a smooth, clean, and clear vodka with a subtle sweet note. Unlike many other vodkas on the market, VulaViti Vodka is completely free from additives like citric acid or sugar and is also glutenfree. Its quality and unique character have earned it a place as the house vodka at most major resorts in Fiji.

Kalo Kalo Rum: A rising star

Given Fiji's long history of sugar cane cultivation, it's no surprise that rum is a natural fit for the island nation. However, it wasn't until 1979 that the South Pacific Distillery, an arm of Fiji Sugar, began producing rum. The Distillery Co Fiji's first foray into rum, Kalo Kalo (which means "star" in Fijian), was released in July 2023 and has quickly made a name for itself.

Kalo Kalo Rum is crafted from rich molasses sourced from the Fiji Sugar Corporation in Lautoka. It is distilled using a combination of a traditional pot still and a column still, resulting in a light rum with enticing notes of caramel and molasses. Despite its relatively recent debut, Kalo Kalo Rum has already garnered significant acclaim, scoring 85 points at the 2023 London Spirit Awards, making it the highest-scoring white rum from Fiji in the past two years. It has also become the rum of choice at most major resorts, and its versatility shines in cocktails like the Mojito and the Fijian Caipirinha, locally known as the Baravi.

A bright future ahead

As The Distillery Co Fiji continues to grow and thrive, plans are underway for a larger, purpose-built facility in Nadi. This new distillery will not only house the production facilities but also offer tours for visitors, a farm where they can grow their own ingredients, and of course, a bar where guests can sample the distillery's wares.

Through their dedication to quality, commitment to sustainability, and passion for showcasing the best of Fiji, the brothers behind The Distillery Co Fiji are not only creating exceptional spirits but also helping to put their homeland on the map as a producer of world-class craft beverages. As they continue to innovate and expand, one thing is clear: the future looks bright for this family-owned distillery and the Fijian spirits industry as a whole.

Whale watching in Tonga: Swimming with giants

The islands of Tonga are renowned for their exceptional whale watching and swimming experiences, particularly with humpback whales. Here's what you need to know about this incredible adventure:

When is whale watching season?

Every year, from July to October, humpback whales embark on a remarkable journey from the icy waters of Antarctica to the warm, sheltered waters of Tonga. During this period, these majestic creatures come to mate, give birth, and nurse their calves. The peak whale watching season in Tonga is in August and September, offering the best chance to witness these gentle giants in action.

Top whale watching locations

Tonga's main islands for whale watching tours include Vava'u, Ha'apai, Tongatapu, and 'Eua. Among these, Vava'u stands out as the premier destination, boasting the highest concentration of licensed whale watching operators. Each location provides unique opportunities to see and interact with whales in their natural habitat.

Swimming with whales

One of the most incredible aspects of whale watching in Tonga is the opportunity to swim and snorkel with humpback whales. Tonga is one of the few places in the world where this is legally permitted. These in-water encounters are conducted by licensed operators with trained guides, ensuring the safety of both whales and swimmers. The experience of being in the water with these magnificent creatures is truly unparalleled.

The Tour Experience

Whale watching tours in Tonga are typically full-day adventures that start in the morning. These tours involve searching for whales and often include opportunities for swimming or snorkelling with them, as well as exploring nearby reefs or islands. During these excursions, you can witness a variety of whale behaviours, including breaching, tail and fin slapping, spy-hopping, and even singing, which can be heard via hydrophones.

While whale sightings are highly likely, in-water interactions depend on the whales' behaviour and cannot be guaranteed. However, even observing these creatures from the boat is an awe-inspiring experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Whale watching in Tonga offers a unique and unforgettable opportunity to observe humpback whales in their natural environment, with the added thrill of potential in-water encounters. It's a must-do experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.

This year, Tetiaroa atoll saw a record turtle nesting season with over 1,400 tracks and more than 220 on Onetahi alone. Over 75 female turtles and 30,000 live hatchlings were identified. The Brando, located on the atoll, ensures turtle preservation by constructing villas on the beach, slightly set back. From September to April, guests can witness baby turtles heading to the lagoon. These findings are part of a research program by "Te Mana o Te Moana," supported by the Polynesian government and the Department of the Environment.
