Although any changing of the guard is not without some pain and stress, at ITLA we are dead-serious about offering the best, most correct and fastest certificate documentation in the cattle industry. Those who watch, know ITLA registration certificates have the OCV permanent number and birth weights along with a full color photo of the critter being registered. The ITLA certificates have more information, require more time to generate and still are provided to members at the lowest price in the industry. This is not easy. Yet, that is who we are. A livestock registration certificate is a title of ownership and tells a prospective buyer a lot about who and what they are buying. I am Russell Freeman the past VP of ITLA, and now President. In total appreciation of everyone prior to me, I am grateful and respect every ounce of energy dedicated by volunteers and elected ones to build ITLA to what it is today--- and I won't ever forget that. In case I am somewhat of a stranger to anyone, here are some things about me, our Texas Longhorn involvement, and our historical cattle family. My family was in Colorado in 1899 when the state started registering cattle and horse brands. My great grandmother, Carolyn Freeman, on September 30, 1899, registered the Freeman Ranch brand in the state of Colorado. In 124 years, the ranch location has changed from county to county and many generations have changed. As a teenager I met and talked with famous South African professor Jan Bonsma when he was evaluating Texas Longhorn cattle for Horlock Cattle Co in Colorado. The Freeman Ranch headquarters is located in the canyon country of southeast Colorado. Today, Freeman Ranch is owned and operated by Russell and Jamie Freeman, and our sons Whitt, Henry, and Jack assist with the day-to-day ranching duties. You have seen our ads on Winning Honor, Lightning In A Bottle, Rural Safari Son, and Committed. We are serious about genetic progress and the great Texas Longhorn breed. Having only being ITLA President for a few days don't call asking hard questions. Give me a few days to "know the ropes." You can watch and see some new and progressive plans for ITLA to grow bigger and better in all the things we do for our members. You will be surprised with new staff members who will be "answering" your phone calls in the office. Stop by the ITLA office and meet our new staff, but don't talk toooo long --- they have certificates to crank out in quick order. Always, member services come first.
A LETTER FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT
240-291-1958 lizzhuntzberry@yahoo.com
Spring is flying by, and summer is closing in! I absolutely love seeing all the pictures of everyone's calves hitting the ground! This is the time of year when all our rewards come in for hard work the rest of the year...
At ITLA, there have been some adjustments in progress. We are fortunate to have Craig Perez in the office every day getting our paperwork completed and up to par. If you have spoken with him in the office, you know he is competent and committed to providing quick, correct service to our members. He has been an asset in catching up registrations and transfers this past month, and I am grateful for that.
The show and futurity season is well under way, as well as some great sales happening around the country. These are great opportunities for us to get out and see what is going on in other people's programs and share fellowship time with other breeders. One thing I consistently hear from new folks joining the longhorn community is how friendly and helpful everyone is. I have also had this experience and it's one of the things my family values most about our involvement. In other breed circles, there just isn't the same camaraderie we have in our industry. If you are out and about at some of these events this year, make sure and visit with new breeders and show them what sets us apart from other cattle clubs!
With all of us working together, ITLA accomplishes great things for the longhorn breed. Make sure you are doing your part to contribute to our success. Exhibiting cattle, sponsoring events, or serving on committees to promote our cattle are ways each of us can participate. Join me in supporting President Freeman as he steps into the leadership role with ITLA. Good people are in place to keep us growing and moving forward!
A LETTER FROM THE HEADQUARTERS
For those of you who have contacted the ITLA office since May 1, 2023, you might have noticed a familiar voice. It has been fun to surprise those that already know me and even leave some in total confusion. If my name doesn't ring a bell, chances are you likely know my alter ego. After 20 years in the industry of giving my time and helping promote the breed through the Gallery of Horns on the Arrowhead Cattle Company website, I finally get paid to build digital pedigrees. Just not for my website, instead in service of the membership doing registrations and transfers.
As you might expect, this is the busy season for registrations and transfers with new calves being born every day and sales every week. The ITLA BOD is committed to ensuring that the ITLA offers its membership a fast and accurate service. To honor that commitment, I've been putting in the long hours to get your registrations and transfers completed. To help streamline the workflow, if you have an animal in a sale or show that needs your registrations and transfers done as soon as possible we are asking that you call the office to ensure expedited service.
I'm already getting pretty fast of turning work around. I could use a little help from all of you. Using the I-Register system speeds up the workflow greatly, and I think you will find it is much easier than filling out the paperwork. Let's face it, most of us are not big fans of paperwork. So go digital!!! Also, be prepared to send me pictures. I love looking at all the great cattle that you own. The ITLA is special in that it offers to add your pictures to the registrations for FREE.
In the month of May, over 300 pieces of mail with your registrations and transfers have been sent to our membership in more than 7 countries. This is a trend that will continue and if you could do myself and the BOD a favor, share the good news on social media! Give your director a call and let them know you are a happy member. Remember, they are breeders just like you and they would be happy to just talk cows if that is more your speed.
Something New In Glen Rose
In my own gratitude, I would like to thank my trainer. If you have been around, Teresa was a cheerful and dedicated team member on the staff who came back to chip in and help as well as train me. I would like to also like to thank Director Joel Dickinson and Kara Dickinson (now part of the Drover Team), for making the long drive down to Glen Rose Texas to put in a little over a 60 hour work week with me as volunteers. That doesn't even include the half day on Friday and all day Saturday we spent representing at the Fort Worth Stockyards Sale. It is with continued gratitude that I thank Director Brad Westmoreland and his family for coming in and volunteering time to help. Be on the lookout for the Gangof5 crew in ITLA merchandise that will be available to purchase soon.
I still have much to learn, but I am closer to the breed than I have ever been. For those of you that know me, know that is really saying something.
On behalf of the ITLA Board of Directors and myself we would like to thank each and every one of you for your valued membership. We know you have a choice in who provides your registrations and transfers, and that is why I would like to personally ask you to continue to choose the International Texas Longhorn Association.
John Moxley lives in New Market, Maryland with his wife Suzanne, where they own and operate a plumbing business and farm 130 acres. They have 5 children and 6 grandchildren. They started Cross Wrench Ranch and raising Texas longhorns in 2000. Since then, they have bred and raised an ITLA Championship show Grand Champion steer, female and bull. John is Vice President of NETLA, ITLA Approved Judge, and Director at large and Treasurer of the ITLA. Currently they are raising about 50 head of longhorns and sell beef, show stock and breeding stock. John was also a judge at the ITLA Champ show futurity
ADVICE AND WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT
WHY CHOOSE ITLA?
I have been a life time member of ITLA since I have been in Longhorns. I don’t really even recognize any other registry, it is the best registry around and it is well run.
ADVICE TO NEW BREEDERS
Go quality over quantity and never forget they are a beef breed, do not go too big too fast.
WHAT ITLA EVENTS CAN WE FIND YOU AT?
You will see me at the NETLA events local to our area For the past 11 years, we have attended the ITLA Convention and Championship Show- so hopefully we will be able to swing that this year as well.
ITLA IN 2023
I see us growing with membership and registrations ITLA is bouncing back from some troubles we have had to become stronger and better.
ADVICE TO ITLA YOUTH
It is good to set yourself up with someone who is experienced Be sure you learn the ropes before you jump right into purchasing your own cattle Remember quality over quantity Sportsmanship is more important than winning
WHERE ARE MY CERTIFICATES? DAROL DICKINSON
WHERE ARE MY CERTIFICATES?
By: Darol DickinsonHistorically ITLA has taken pride in providing the most information and most colorful registration certificates in the industry, also with the quickest turn around time. However, some things are beyond ITLA control, for one, the US postal service, or lack thereof, like the accompanying photo.
In the last two years a percentage of registration applications and completed certificates are not always getting to the ITLA office, nor reaching the final owner of the registered cattle. Many of us older people recall the historic motto, "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." Now, a comment is added, "This slogan is not a formal commitment, and in fact the USPS may delay mail during bad weather." In the last two years the weather has, possibly, been very bad.
WHERE ARE MY CERTIFICATES? WHERE ARE MY CERTIFICATES?
Notice the returned to sender info shown in the photo. This registration application was sent April 3, 2023, then for only what a postal employee could understand, it was lost in the USPS ozone, then stamped "Not Known" and returned May 9, 2023, arriving in the rural mail box of the sender May 13. From departure to return a total of 40 days. Granted, the ITLA PO Box is 2610, rather than 2510; while laying around the Glen Rose, Post Office for over 30 days the postal clerks received several dozen other pieces of mail and often sent out 2 to 5 dozen certificate-envelopes every day. Hundreds of mail items come and go to this postal box monthly, but the mystery to the government employees is 'enormous' and this one envelope could not find it's way into the ITLA box. To make things easy, a staff person picks up and delivers ITLA mail daily and is well known in the post office.
Why couldn't this envelope find it's way?
WHERE ARE MY CERTIFICATES?
Here are some tips:
1. If checks to ITLA for services do not clear the sender's bank in a reasonable time, there may be a problem.
2. To be sure, when selling and transferring cattle call the new buyer, in a reasonable amount of time, and find if they did receive their certificates.
3. When buying in an auction call the sale management if certificates do not come to you. At this particular time, in an air conditioned post office, in broad open daylight, your valuable documents may be floating around in the 'courier-ozone.'
WHERE ARE MY CERTIFICATES?
INTERNATIONAL LIVESTOCK CURRENT NEWS
WHAT ABOUT MRNA?
THE DEVIL'S BREW?
Grave concern is exploding from the new pharmaceutical product "messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) which has been approved for livestock use in Australia, China and New Zealand. Although this injection is not approved in the USA, millions of dollars are being poured into lobbying to get approval. Each needs to know how this injection is transmittedfromimportedlivestockrawmeat.
A MESSAGE FROM BILL BULLARD
Imported meats are the most economical in the USA food market due to their lack of health testing required. Over 22% of beef consumed in the USA is imported from other countries. This cheap beef is mostly consumed by government schools and colleges, jails, hospitals, rehab facilities, senior citizen facilities, and government "Meals on Wheels" programs. At this point the only source of consuming mRNA injected meat is imported. It is important to know about mRNA. It is imperative to resist approval of mRNA technology when it is lobbied into the USA.
Safety is to buy known, for certain, local produced USA meats. Please listen to Bill Bullard with a five minute voice message on mRNA.
TOP OF THE WEST TLA
AFFILIATE SPOTLIGHT
Greetings from Top of the West Texas Longhorn Association We have been thriving in Southern Idaho, Northwest Utah, and Northern Nevada for over 23 years. Our originating small dedicated group held our first show at the Twin Falls County Fair and met with huge push back from the Beef Department largely because we were different, and that the public absolutely loved us. We have held the public’s curiosity and admiration all these years while we have continued to evolve and grow As we grew and eventually got our own barn which we filled in a very few years.
One of our youth had started the first FFA Longhorn Project over 10 years ago but met with huge resistance when the Beef Judge ejected him from the ring for having horns A few years later we convinced the 4-H to allow a Longhorn Club for one year on a trial basis Cody and Koryl Campbell were the leaders of the first 4-H Longhorn Club in Idaho and the 4th in the United States and the year was a great success They led the way to there now being three Longhorn Clubs and FFA Members in Twin Falls County Cody received the ITLA Unsung Hero award for his leadership and hard work last year.

Top of the West TLA and now three Longhorn 4-H Clubs has outgrown our barn and all other available pen space forcing the cancelation of our open show last year. We now have completed blueprints and are doing fundraising with sponsorships for a new 4-H barn. The Fair Board has saved additional space for our open Entries for this year even if the new barn is not completed by Fair Time
We have exciting times ahead of us because we continue to grow every year The Longhorns are the most sought after and asked about every year and has more non-family spectators in the stands Other counties are learning and want to do what we do because of the excitement that we create. The Dairy exhibits are right next door to us and anytime the parents can’t find their children, they know they are visiting us in the Longhorn barn
Our Top of the West TLA Show is scheduled for Sunday September 4th starting at 9 AM. Dr Justin Sabio from Texas is our Judge this year and we are so excited to have him and his family join us this year. We ask that all of you make plans to come join us for what we believe is the best Texas Longhorn Show in the Circuit Everyone that has been to our show as a Judge, Spectator, or Exhibitor; all want to come again
I would like to shine the spotlight on one of our Youth, Autumn Voss who also joined us at the Convention in Oklahoma last year.

My name is Autumn Voss. I am 20 years old and live in Twin Falls, Idaho. I have been showing longhorns for 6 years now. I started out by showing other peoples longhorns at the Twin Falls County Fair. I had the pleasure of showing a cow named Ruby Rae that I leased from Victory Ranch my first year After 3 years I decided to finally buy my own longhorn that was one of Ruby’s calves I bought a steer named Prince and he is now 2 years old I now am a leader and help out the youth in my 4h club. I absolutely love showing and raising longhorns they are a brilliant breed and I couldn’t have done any of it without the support of all the people who introduced me to longhorns and ITLA.

WHAT'S NEW
Hey Y’all.
Who’s ready for the youth showmanship season to begin!? I know I am. Little Miss ITLA and I have been working with our show team for awhile now and are excited to finally get to show them in the show ring.
The last couple of weeks we have been busy fundraising, representing, and preparing our animals for the upcoming shows. Shoutout to Mr. Robbie and Mrs. Fran Andrews from Andrew’s Farm for inviting us to fundraise at their booth at the Got to be NC festival in Raleigh, NC. We had a wonderful time informing people about this amazing breed and meeting lots of new friends including little Mr. Xavier H. who was kind enough to take a picture with us and made a big personal contribution to our fundraising efforts. Thank you, Xavier! We also had the pleasure of meeting Miss Bailey North Carolina while fundraising at the Blooming Festival in Nashville, NC. Wishing y ’all a great summer and I can’t wait to see everyone at the upcoming shows. Keep working hard and sharing kindness.
God Bless, Rachael
MartinEphesians 4:32 - “And be ye kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. ”
WHAT'S NEW
Traditions stay alive, sometimes with changes. New can keep the old going. New pastures feed the herd when the time comes.
Just like when we haul our long horns to taller fresh grass pastures. Changes are always around us, and they can be good! The Drover is on a new pasture and it keeps the tradition.
Spring and summer means rotating pastures to keep the herd healthy. Calves come and animals keep growing. Raising an old treasured breed in long horns means always knowing when it is time for new pastures and keeping the pastures healthy.
Welcome to the new pasture, Drover, and thanks for always helping the breed.

I am a member of ITLA and NETLA I am 10 years old from Bailey North Carolina. I have been a longhorn member since birth. My parents registered my first calf when I was born I attended shows and sales before I could walk. Now I have my own cattle that carry my brand. My favorite thing about raising Longhorns are the people The Longhorn people are great people and willing to help. I also love the cattle because they are such a special breed
WHAT'S NEW
Hello, everyone summer is coming and I am so excited to get out of school for the summer. That means I will have more time to take care and work my heifers. My plans during the summer is to attend some shows such as the NETLA youth show in Maryland as well as some of the sales. I will also be helping with many 4H farm camps this summer. This past month I have been able to attend the Hudson Valentine sale Fort Worth, and been able to help educate, and Share the breed at an event called the Got To Be NC Festival. I wish everyone the best and look forward to seeing you all at the events.
Happy Trails, Leah

GEORGE STRATFORD GENNIN
1944 - 2023
"He served as a member of American Legion, Order of Daedalians, Air Force Association, Veterans of Foreign, Texas Longhorn Breeders Association, co-founder of Texas Longhorn Marketing Association, and Madison Boys & Girls Club. As Waylon and Willi sang “Mama Don’t Let your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys” the purchase of a farm estate in 1999 allowed George at the start a new career-hobby as a breeder of registered Texas Longhorn cattle on his Virginia ranch “Chimneys” with his wife, Laureen Their farm in the Virginia countryside enabled them to enjoy a busy lifestyle developing their estate raising livestock (Texas Longhorns, Heritage Tennessee Fainting Goats, Bulgarian Karakachan dogs, - another international program!) Over the years they attended and hosted many auctions, sales and gatherings with a fabulous cast of fellow longhorn breeders across America. The Gennin’s were members and active in the TLBA, ITLA, cofounders of the Texas Longhorn Marketing Association (TLMA). Laureen wrote a feature in the Texas Longhorn magazine for eight years, served on Longhorn boards, and making it a family affair; they introduced their grandchildren, (Sierra, Caylie, G3 and Raquel); to the cattle management breeding programs with their own stock, which allowed them to travel with their grandparents to many Longhorn events "

He adored his wife and children and he was overwhelmed with joy when he became a grandfather to “little” Les and Chita Les leaves a legacy of love that will be remembered and treasured for generations to come Professionally, Les started Admiral Glass Company in 1984 Under his leadership, the Admiral Glass Company grew to be recognized as one of the top glazing contractors in the United States, successfully completing many of the most high-profile projects in Texas. Les was proud of his company, but even more proud of the employees who worked alongside him to make it a success. One of Les’ greatest passions was his ranch, Craft Ranch, where he bred and sold award winning Texas Longhorns. He also loved breeding high quality whitetail deer for his children and friends to enjoy He loved fishing along the Gulf Coast, cooking, classic cars, and his dogs, especially Humphrey Les will be greatly missed by all "
