arami-rami na rin ang mga nausong paraan upang makapag-diet at makapag-bawas ng timbang. Bago pa man ang mga surgical procedures upang makapagbawas ng bigat ng katawan o mapanatili nila ang ganda ng kanilang pangangatawan, nariyan na ang mga herbal at food supplements. Sa ngayon, tila mas nauuso na nga ang sinasabing mas natural na pamamaraan ng pagda-diet, at dito na pumapasok ang sinasabi nilang diet juicing o ang pag-inom lamang ng juice na gawa sa katas ng prutas o gulay ng ilang araw para makuha ang nais na pangangatawan. Sinasabing nagsimulang mauso ito sa “Master Cleanse” diet kung saan ito ang ginamit ng sikat na Hollywood Star na si Beyonce upang mabilis na makabawas ng timbang para sa gagampanan niyang karakter sa pelikulang Dream Girls. Ang Master Cleanse na ito na pinaghalong tubig, lemon concentrate, cayenne pepper at maple syrup. Ito ang tanging iinumin sa loob ng sampu hanggang labinlimang araw na walang kinakain. Si Cong. Lucy Torres-Gomez ay aminado na ginagawa din ang ganitong klase ng cleansing na sinasabing hindi lamanag nakakabawas ng timbang kung hindi ay nakakalinis din ng digestive organs ng tao. Dahil dito sinasabing napanganak ang diet juice cleanse o diet detox na sikat na sikat ngayon. Makikita ang ilang mga artista na nagpo-post sa kanilang mga Instagram at Twitter accounts tulad nina KC Concepcion, Julia Montes, Melissa Ricks, Bianca Gonzalez, Iza Calzado at marami pang iba na gumagamit ng nasabing juice cleanse. Nakausap ng Push.com.ph ang The Skinny Juicery, isa sa mga gumagawa ng ganitong klaseng produkto ng juice cleansing. At ayon sa kanila, naglipana at patok ang ganitong klaseng produkto dahil, “Everyone is into fitness and leading a healthy lifestyle right now, the rise of the ‘balik alindog program’ and ‘fitspiration’ like our girl Ellen Adarna who also is a juice fan has strongly influenced the

followers to jump into eating clean, training mean, and drinking greens, which is positively life changing. And juicing has become a lifestyle. It’s just hard to sustain. The movie 12 Years a Slave made history at the 86th Academy Awards as the first movie to win the Best Picture award from a black director. The movie’s director Steve McQueen on his speech remarked, “Everyone deserves not just to survive, but to live. This is the most important legacy of Solomon Northup. I dedicate this award to all the people who endured slavery and the 21 million who still endure slavery today.”

T SEEMS that Gerald Anderson’s current girlfriend Maja Salvador has charmed the entire Anderson family. Gerald’s father, Randy and brother, Ken, in a rare occasion, appeared on the live Sunday episode of Buzz ng Bayan and expressed their approval of Maja. Ken even noted that his relationship with the Dahan Dahan singer is “Parang brother and sister” and that he considers her his Ate. The Dyesbel’s father on the other hand called The Legal Wife actress a “sweetheart” and shared an anecdote of what she did just last year. “Well I first met Maja back in Christmas just last year and at that time I was still overseas. I was working she really endeared herself. She really charmed me.
She said ‘Daddy come home. You need to come home,’” he shared. The older Anderson noted that the aforementioned gesture proved how much a “caring person” Maja is. He also added, “She’s a sweetheart. I think the world loves her.” Gerald, who celebrated his 15th birthday last March 7, for his part was grateful over such statements about his girlfriend. Juan Dela Cruz actor Arron Villaflor lost his van to two carjackers on Saturday, March 8 afternoon at a bookstore along Quezon Avenue and Scout Borromeo. “Ang nangyari kasi nasa ABS ako, rehearsal ako for ASAP. Nagpa-drive ‘yung sister ko sa kanya kasi sabi ng sister ko ‘Arron may bibilhin lang ako sa National Bookstore’ sabi ko ‘Sige sige pa-drive ka kay Jeff,’” shared Arron in an interview with Buzz ng Bayan aired on Sunday. When his sister Nikki was about to leave the venue, Arron shared that she can no longer contact their driver Jeff Valdez. “Tumatawag ako sa driver then nag-ri-ring, hindi sumasagot. Nag-try ako ulit then ‘yon, second try ko nagring then binaba ‘yung phone. So sabi ko sa isipan ko, ‘Bakit ako bababaan ng phone?’ Eh sakto may incoming phone
ako from my sister which is Nikki saying na ‘Arron nakita ko ‘yung van may nagbukas na tao, may pumasok sa van, hindi ko kilala,’” he further recounted. A few moments after filing a report at the district anti-carnapping unit of the Philippine National Police in Camp Karingal QC, his driver Jeff was located by the police somewhere along Mindanao Avenue. Although, according to him, they didn’t see Jeff alighting the van in the footages he considers his driver a “victim” in the said carjacking incident. Despite the unfortunate incident, Arron is grateful that nobody was hurt by the armed carjackers. ven though everyone in the country (and quite possibly the world) already knows who Manny Pacquiao is, Manny, a truthful and honest documentary about the life of Pacquiao, will bring the beloved Pinoy boxer even closer to everyone with its inspirational tale of struggles, challenges, and hope. During the red carpet premiere held last March 10 at the Newport Performing Arts theater in Resorts World Manila, hundreds flocked to the first Asian screening of the movie which concluded with an appearance of the film’s co-producer Raffy Puni who flew to the country just to grace the event after attending the world premiere in Texas. The film starts out introducing Manny’s humble beginnings in a poor community in General Santos City and how even as a little boy he strove to become a good breadwinner for his family. Expect raw and heartfelt testimonials from Manny’s mother Dionisia and wife Jinkee as well as his uncle who became his first boxing trainer at the age of 12. The movie is initially narrated by Hollywood actor Liam Neeson, but it is ultimately Manny Pacquiao himself who tells most of the intricate details of his life (in his signature somewhat broken yet endearing English). Manny also includes intriguing interviews with the people who helped shaped Manny’s international career, like his longtime coach Freddie Roach (who, despite battling Parkinson’s disease, continues to train the Pacman to this day), his advisor Micharl Kocz, his former strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza, boxing promoter Bob Arum, celebrities like Jeremy Piven, Mark Wahlberg, and host Jimmy Kimmel as well as interesting insights from local and foreign boxing analysts who all have different perspectives on Manny’s life.
Although most of the movie focuses on Manny’s career as a boxer (including highlights of his world title bouts as well as his initial fights as a teenager), the filmmakers (Ryan Moore and Academy Award winner Leon Gast) made sure to give just as much emphasis on Manny’s other pursuits like his subsequent political career as a congressman in his home province and his newfound faith as a bible ambassador. As a documentary, Manny does not merely aim to glorify the already illustrious career of the “People’s Champion.” In fact, what it seems to want to do is show the Pinoy athlete for what he really is: a true fighter in and outside the ring; an imperfect
human being with flaws and mistakes; and a man who grows in strength through the years. The movie shows Manny is a great guy not because he is perfect, but because he continues to inspire despite his imperfections. It shows Manny as a champion, a public servant, a hero to the masses and to his family as well. Manny Pacquiao is currently in the US preparing for his rematch with welterweight titleholder Timothy Bradley on April 12 in Las Vegas. ABS-CBN PRESIDENT CHARO-SANTOS CONCIO LANDS THE COVER OF MEGA
A
BS-CBN President, Ms. Charo-Santos Concio, is the cover girl of Mega Magazine for its March issue. The television executive is all glammed up and posh-looking in a stylish trench coat as she poses for Mega’s Annual Power Issue where she talks about pursuing dreams and passion and why she is not planning to stop anytime soon. The magazine tagged ABS-CBN’s President as “The Unapologetic She” and “A Woman of Power” which speaks of the amount of her contribution to the TV industry. Ms. Concio had worked as a production assistant, a producer for a number of films in 1980s and an established-dramatic actress bagging nominations and awards before she became ABS-CBN’s Production Manager, to Program Director and to Executive VicePresident. She was appointed as the 5th President of ABS-CBN in 2008, the first ever woman to head the TV
network. Aside from being ABSCBN’s top executive, she is also the host of the longest drama anthology on TV, Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK). I’ve always been very concerned with the environment. It’s something that I was taught to appreciate at a very young age by my parents and also growing up in Australia where I’m exposed to good environmental practices. So when the opportunity came to work together with WWF, Rovilson and I just grabbed it. We were so honored that such a respected organization around the world. They do such wonderful work so this is a great way that I know I can help bring the word out and get more people interested and involved,” he shared. According to Marc, this year’s Earth Hour has been scheduled from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Saturday night, March 29. Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off lights for 60 minutes to deliver a powerful message on the need for decisive climate change solutions. This simple act has captured the hearts and minds of people all over the world. Aside from WWF, the Fil-Australian hunk is also involved with several other advocacies, which are all close to his heart. “At the forefront of course is WWF which

Vision Philippines, I’ve just been named their ambassador for risk assessment and disaster relief. Also Oxfam, they’ve been doing a lot of fantastic work here. I’m also with Climate Change so WWF has actually partnered up with them on a couple of occasions, there’s Hands-on Manila, the local Dakila Foundation. I’m active with all of them,” he said. Apart from taping episodes of his longrunning weekend show Sports Unlimited all over the country, Marc said he is also excited to share what else is taking up his free time nowadays. “Rovilson and myself are busy with a podcast along with our other friends Stephen Ku and Erwann Heussaff called The Cave podcast. We have a fantastic time doing that and really enjoying the new medium. On top of that I also own a kiteboarding resort in Aklan so I’m busy running that,” he admitted. Although still admittedly single, Marc said he was perfectly happy to celebrate his birthday last February 14 with his closest friends. “I’m single, sadly (laughs). Valentine’s day was my birthday and I spent it with some of my best friends. I went to a friend’s beach house in Puerto Galera and had a phenomenal time. I got some kiteboarding in, snorkeling, I had good food and a wonderful and relaxing time with friends which is exactly how I wanted to spend it,” he said.

ITH his afternoon series Galema on its last month run, Matteo Guidicelli shared with the press his excitement over the epic finale during their thanksgiving presscon held last March 11 at The Lounge in Quezon City. “Just three more weeks to go and there’s a big transformation happening. Having kept mum about his rumored relationship with Sarah Geronimo, Matteo denied he and the Popstar Princess had a falling out because her parents did not approve of him courting her. “Falling out? Rumors are always rumors and basta everything’s positive and I try to keep it positive but it’s okay, everybody’s happy. Huwag na natin pag-usapan yun. Okay na yun. Like what direk Wenn (Deramas) always tells me, just

Although he refused to comment on how things are between him and Sarah’s Mommy Divine, Matteo chose his words carefully. “Wala, wala akong masabi dun po eh. She’s very beautiful with her short hair and she looks good and I’m proud of her. Like all of us would say and as I would say, she looks hot. ay Montelibano, host-comedian Willie Revillame’s manager and friend, underscored that the latter indeed goes to the casino but denied that he has been shelling out millions because of gambling. “I’d like to say na ‘yung nalulong is not true. Yes, he may have gone and played out of fun. He may already have his share of wins and losses pero ‘yung malulong is not really true and it’s not accurate,” he said. According to him, Revillame even recently purchased an Aventador, a type of a luxury sports car by world-renowned brand Lamborghini which reportedly amounts to P20 billion. Several tabloid reports recently had Revillame on its headlines, one of the most notorious report claimed that
he was held for two days in a casino allegedly due to his loss which amounted to P300 million. “It isn’t true. Like I said, hindi siya madalas [pumunta sa casino] tulad ng napapabalita,” he said. fter shocking the public with her alleged suicide attempt recently, comedian Jose Manalo’s minor daughter as it turns out has already tried to take her life back in 2013 supposedly for the same reason, according to her mother Anna Lyn. In an interview aired on Buzz ng Bayan on Sunday, she revealed, “Pangalawa na po ito.’Yung una ‘yung March last year, naglaslas both arms.” Thankfully though they were able to rush her to the hospital, Anna Lyn said. According to the young student’s counsel Atty. Dennis Pangan, Jose was “too busy” to react to his daughter’s first suicide try. “Huwag mo na itanong sa akin kung ano ang ginawa ng tatay nung malaman niya, kasi wala eh. Masyadong busy sa show. Sikat eh,” he said. The 17-year-old was found unconscious in their condominium around 10pm on March 12 after purportedly taking various drugs for her latest suicide try. A suicide note cited family problems as the reason for the attempted suicide. One of which was her father’s rumored failure to pay for her tuition fee. The young lady likewise grieved

provide support for their family. “I would say a little better than Wednesday. Hopefully it will lead to recovery. Pero ang hindi niya ma-take eh ‘yung pinababayaan ng tatay niya ‘yung kapatid niyang bunso na laging umiiyak, laging hinahanap ‘yung tatay…” he shared. Meanwhile, in a statement shown in the same episode, Jose expressed sadness over news of his daughter’s suicide attempt. “Contrary to the baseless allegations being made against him, Jose has been diligently observing and following the orders of the Court as regards the support requested by Anna Lyn and their children,” Jose’s camp said, referring to an earlier legal battle between the former couple when Anna Lyn and their daughter both filed a violation against RA 9262, or the AntiViolence against Women and their children Act of 2004.

nstead of commemorating the late Master Rapper Francis Magalona’s death anniversary on March 6, the Magalona family has decided to mark it with a fun run on March 30. It was the late musician’s son Elmo Magalona who revealed the plan during an interview on the sidelines of Garage’s fifth Young Talents’ Party at the Skye Lounge in Taguig. “Ending ng March, magkakaroon kami ng fun run. It’s going to be handled by FMCC (Francis M. Clothing Company),” Elmo said. According to Elmo, the activity will be fully supported by their family. “I’ll be participating, we (the family) are going to be participating,” he said. However, the young Magalona added that he might not be able to join the runners. “I’m not sure if I’m going to run. Baka hindi ako ano eh prepared. Siguro, I’ll just be there to support everyone. I’m hoping na maraming mag-join,” Elmo explained. How did the idea of a fun run
came about? “Parang it’s an idea na kinombine with Bearwin Meilly. It wasn’t a sunny day as everyone expected Coron to be at that time of the year and the staff and crew were met by Typhoon Basyang’s cold and dreary spell. Anne and the rest of the cast had to wait out the storm, but she was okay about it. “It was good in a way. There was time for teambuilding. It was kind of new to me, I’m always on the go. Always something to do after work. It was a beautiful place to be,” Anne related. On the second day on the island, Metro also saw Anne transform into a mermaid. It took two hours to put the suit on and get her makeup and hair done. Anne emerged in a bikini, with highlights in her hair and a gold colored fish tail. “Mahirap mag-CR!” was Anne’s comment about it.

Si Anne (Curtis) marami ng training sessions nong dati pa for Diyosa but ako first time na gaganap ako bilang isang merman, sireno, so napakahirap para sa akin na magmukhang natural sa tubig na hindi ako nahihirapan,” he relayed. He further revealed, “It was difficult for me kasi when you’re swimming akala mo na okay. Pero pagnakita mo na sa screen hindi pala okay, mukhang awkward na nahihirapan talaga ako, so it was a lot of training for me para masanay talaga sa tubig.” Sam said that he really prepared himself to be physically fit for the role as Liro. “Ito ang first Dyesebel na may mga sireno, first time, at ako, ‘yung character ko, bagong character, sa mga dating Dyesebel walang Liro so this is a

he past few weeks have been quite hectic for Antoinette Taus. The former actress, who is now in the Philippines for a vacation, is extending her stay as offers for a couple of projects came pouring in.
“I never thought that I would actually stay a little longer. Yes [there are offers], there’s a few linedup pero siyempre we just don’t want to jump into anything right away so we’re doing a lot of deciding and thinking right now,” she shared in an exclusive interview with Push.com.ph. She further relayed that she might be doing an indie movie and record an album in the country. “Hopefully one is an indie film for an international release which I’m super excited about. I’ve never done an all-English film before so I’m excited about that and then a new album, hopefully,” she said. Back in Los Angeles, Antoinette was busy with her music and her company Taus Entertainment where she is partners with her brother, former child actor Tom Taus. “Basically, he’s DJing right now and also he’s going to do a lot of producing very soon and we just want to produce our own music, original of course. It’s going to be mostly in English, but we still want to make music for the Philippines so kahit papaano may Tagalog pa rin. And nag i-events din kami in and out of Hollywood,” she shared.

Extending her stay here in the Philippines has meant that she needed to leave her pending work in the US. “I actually left behind a lot of things that I still need to be doing there, but I’m here right now, to me, I just kind of follow my heart, I mean I’m not going to stay here forever. I guess what happened is I basically got two homes now, Philippines tsaka L.A., and marami naman sa kanila nagba-back and forth na rin eh so ngayon mukhang dito muna ako for a few months and we’ll see where it goes,” she said. According to Antoinette, what really motivates her nowadays are her fans so she wants to extend her gratitude to all of them. “I guess what I just want to say is thank you, sobrang nakaka-touch talaga, nakakaiyak. Hindi ko naman akalain na aalis ako ng Pilipinas ng ganon katalagal, sobrang salamat. Honestly, parati ko ring sinasabi sa inyo, alam ko kayo, ;yung nakakausap ko even online, kayo ‘yung reason kung bakit I’m so inspired and I want to keep doing what I am doing so thank you for being there for me,” she remarked.

NETTE TAUS SAYS SHE’S AY IN THE PHILIPPINES Despite being away from the Philippines for quite some time, Antoinette Taus underscored that she has stayed in touch with her friends in the industry. The former Ang TV star recently attended Anne Curtis’s birthday party and had a reunion with her close pals. “I actually saw most of them for the birthday of Anne Curtis. I got to see everyone at Anne’s. And I think we are planning some sleepovers coming soon pero hindi pa nangyayari kasi medyo busy din ako pero once na nagkaroon na ng konting time, magkakaroon na kami ng sleepovers. So ganon pa rin the old friends that I have before are still my friends. Hindi ko pa nakikita lahat pero malapit na, hopefully soon,” she said.

Tom who is now a DJ in the US is currently taking a vacation in the country to spend quality time with his family. “It feels pretty good. The main thing is that I’m happy to see my family again. My dad lives here now, because he used to live with us in the States and now he moved back here, so it’s good to see my dad again and also my uncle, aunt and everybody. I’m going to be here for a month or two, so it’s going to be a long vacation” he shared in an exclusive interview with Push.com.ph. Tom left the Philippines when he was 13 years old after a successful career as a child actor. “It was a family decision actually, my decision also because I could have stayed behind but I wanted to have a different life, go to school and try to do other stuff, you know, other than acting,” he shared. In an interview with the radio personality at the sidelines of BUM Equipment’s introduction of their newest brand ambassadors namely Nash Aguas, Jane Oineza, Diego Loyzaga and Ella Cruz held on March 12 that statement was a pure lie. “Eto nga nakakatawa nung nabasa ko ang statement nila sabi ko ‘Habang siguro sinusulat nila ang kanilang official statements nila, for sure lahat ng balahibo nila pati sa kili-kili nila ay nagtayuan’ because they know they’re composing a lie. Kaya sabi ko isa lang ang katapat ko na sagot ko dyan, isang malutong na halakhak,” he said. He voted for Vice of course kasi doon siya eh. Dapat pinaabstain nila. At tsaka itong si Roldan [Castro] at Mel [Navarro], dapat mag-abstain rin sila dahil sila ang mga officers ng panel or if not ipakita nila ‘yung talagang lumabas,” said Jobert. He even challenges the PMPC to show the ballots “pero kapag binuksan ang sabi ng ilang PMPC members na nakakausap ko lately, sabi nila ‘Dapat walang bura at kapag may bura dapat may initials namin.’” Unfortunately, Jobert says that the ballots can only be opened by virtue of a court order. “Sabi ko ‘Oh eh di mag-court order kayo!’ Basta ako I said my piece I have 22 commitments, I lost the game, okay lang ‘yon,” Jobert enthused. Contrary to popular belief, the Laguna governor’s publicist clarified that he’s revelation of the long-standing controversy isn’t sour graping. “Hindi pwedeng sour-graping you know why? Kasi unang-una, I don’t really believe in both of them eh. In ER, kung sino ang ni-lobby ko and Vice. The rightful winner is Joel Torre. uring the Kris TV episode aired today, March 19, the pump boat which transported the show’s staff and crew including host Kris Aquino, her son Bimby, and guests Daniel Matsunaga and Erich Gonzalez, stalled in the middle of the sea as the machine overheated and malfunctioned. The pump boat that was supposed to take them to an island in Coron, Palawan where the Two Seasons Island Resort and Spa is located, stopped working and fumed midway causing Kris and the others to panic. At first the stars were still joking around but eventually got anxious as things got serious. Kris even said that she almost called her friends who have a chopper to rescue them while Erich resorted to stress eating snacks. Rescuers came and they were towed by a bigger boat to the island. “Erich, aminin mo, it was an experience. FILIPINOS CAN RELATE TO THE FAMILY DRAMA IN THE PLAY ‘AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY’

ome of the most notable names in Philippine theater came together in a tour de force performance in Repertory Philippines’s recent staging of August: Osage County. The Tony and Pulitzer prize-winning play revolves around the lives of the women in the Weston family. The recent Hollywood version of the film starred Hollywood heavyweights Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Ewan McGregor, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The local adaptation is a veritable who’s who of Philippine theater as it is headlined by Baby Barredo, Pinky Amador, Liesl Batucan, Sheila Francisco, Tami Monsod, Richard Cunanan, Leo Rialp, and Angeli Bayani. In this story, retired poet Beverly Weston (Leo Rialp) hires a Native American (played by Ilo-Ilo star Angeli Bayani in her first production
with Repertory) to be the live-in caregiver of his wife Violet who is battling oral cancer. Theater royalty Baby Barredo is a force to be reckoned with onstage as she commands both sympathy and fear in equal parts as the fiery yet slowly deteriorating matriarch who is gets increasingly worried about her alcoholic husband who suddenly goes missing. Her three daughters Barbara, Ivy, and Karen end up going to their childhood home to face their different issues with each other and more family drama ensues. Pinky Amador, who was last seen on the Kapamilya network in the Maalaala Mo Kaya episode Family Picture last year, shows she is adept on stage as she is on television as Violet’s eldest daughter who brings along her estranged husband Bill (Kenneth Moraleda) and their only daughter Jean (Thea Gloria). Sheila Francisco, the only
Filipina to have performed at the prestigious Royal National Theater of London, plays Violet’s sister Mattie Fae and steals the scene whenever she takes center stage. Richard Cunanan plays her husband Charlie who provides some comic relief in this gripping three-hour drama. Their son “Little” Charles (Noel Rayos) is an underachiever who has a secret which will eventually scandalize his mother and the rest of the family. The ensemble performance by one of the oldest theater companies in the country is a wonderfully knit web of individual stories. Pinoys can certainly relate to this dysfunctional Southern family which also have their moments of drama, tragedy, and its own share of deeply hidden secrets.
