Daniel and Kathryn have probably been asked a thousand times if they are already a couple since their Princess and I days. With their sweetness and closeness, the two stars’ chemistry is undeniable. However by September, Angeline and Erik have started exchanging ‘I love yous’ and ‘I miss yous’ via text message. Many are confused with the status of Angeline and Erik’s relationship, but for the two singers, slowly but surely is the key to a lasting relationship.

It has truly been a successful year for James Reid and Nadine Lustre. They both released hit albums and their singles have always topped the charts. Their Wansapanataym series earned high ratings and was a constant trending topic on Twitter. Their first movie Diary ng Panget has raked millions in the box office. Nash and Alex’s first primetime soap Bagito has become an instant success among televiewers. Despite having an adult and sensitive theme, Bagito has scored high ratings. Nash has earned praises for his portrayal as a young dad while Alexa was also being praised with her performance as a troubled teenager. With their first soap, NLex have proven that they have what it takes to thrive in the industry together and to leave a mark in showbiz as a love team. In 2015, they are also set to star in a movie under Star Cinema which fans should watch out for.

It might be their first time to headline a primetime show together, but their palpable and great onscreen chemistry have propelled their love team to greater heights in Forevermore. LizQuen has become one of the hottest love teams on primetime television and fans have been raving their performances as Xander and Agnes. Without a doubt, LizQuen will grow even bigger and their stars will shine even brighter with their upcoming movie titled The Bet this 2015.

Amid the controversies they have encountered this year, KathNiel remains solid as ever. Daniel and Kathryn have achieved numerous successes this year from movies, television, and endorsements. Their movie She’s Dating the Gangster is one of the top grossing movies of the year. They have guest starred in several TV shows this year which always trended online. Their appearance in the Bench Fashion Show was also one of the most talk-about events of this year. This Kapamilya teleserye captured the hearts of Filipino televiewers across the globe for more than two years. fter the guest appearance of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III on the New Year episode of Gandang Gabi Vice, social media has been abuzz with comments. While some enjoyed his appearance which even spawned several semi-autobiographical news features afterwards, there are also a few who criticized PNoy for opting to be part of that show. Host Vice Ganda, in an exclusive interview with Push.com.ph at the recently-concluded Thanksgiving Party of the movies The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin 2 and Feng Shui 2, just shrugged off the negative comments about the episode. “I am so happy with the result how the people took the interview. s the love interest of Pokwang in the family drama movie Edsa Woolworth, Lee O’Brian said he really enjoyed shooting his first major movie role with the Filipina comedian. “I think there’s a lot of chemistry between us. I think we get along really well as friends. I think we get along really well as actors and we both have mutual respect for the profession but on a personal level definitely a lot of connection. It was a great journey and I thought our interaction demanded a lot of different styles so we had to have a lot of heart-to-heart talks,” he said. Even after shooting the film in the states, Lee admitted he and his leading lady have kept in constant touch which is what has led the media to speculate about a brewing romance between the two. During the presscon for the movie held inside ABS-CBN last January 8, everyone at the event noticed just how close the two were. “In the film I play Chad Bauer, the guy who works at being the love interest of Pokwang and then becomes a love interest three months after filming,” he said. The US-based actor, who got his start in doing commercials in Peru, shared why he finds Pokwang very attractive. “First of all, she’s a gorgeous woman. Second, the ability to be very compassionate but also lighthearted. I love that kind of style in a person. Think someone who can sway from seriousness to funny-ness in a heartbeat, that’s not a skill, it’s a gift,” he added. When it comes to having long-distance relationships, Lee admitted that it is always a possibility if they decide to take things to a deeper level. “As of now, we’ve just been communicating. We’re both pretty busy people so she definitely had to come back immediately after and she’s a very busy woman professionally and personally speaking, too, and I am as well so we keep up communication. At this moment we can’t say anything, but never doubt on the future. Never say never because you never know,” he explained. Pokwang recently hosted a dinner in her home for Lee and other members of the US-based cast during the week the movie started showing in the country. It’s this kind of hospitality that Lee admitted would

make him consider marrying a Filipina in the future. “Knowing how Filipinas are, I think it could definitely be a possibility. Definitely,” he said. Even though he has never worked with Filipinos before on a movie project, Lee said doing Edsa Woolworth was a breeze for him. “I’ve had experience working with other cultures and other languages. I actually got started in Latin America so the shock of working with cultures other than my own isn’t so intense. The journey for me started when I worked in Peru, I stumbled into an audition and ended up in a national commercial down there. And then moved on to other work like infomercials. Up in the States I worked in a few feature films last year, numerous show films, and now my focus is commercials and infomercials, presenting and talking to the camera. Specific shows, a couple of appearances in re-enactment shows and appearances in TV shows but apart from that this was probably the first role that I have lots of lines and lots of involvement,” he shared. In between filming the movie abroad, Lee discovered just how popular his co-star really is. “Starting out, our director John-D (Lazatin) informed me of how big of a star she was and is. I didn’t realize that until we started filming when people would stop us every five minutes at the restaurants and take pictures with her. So it’s something that I’ve come to understand,” he admitted. The American actor said he was not at all insecure about her fame. “That’s her success. She went on and earned it. And I think every person is entitled to enjoy it and if someone makes a comment about it, that would be lame on my part to even think that. That’s just not how I am,” he said. During the press conference, many were curious if Lee would consider being based in the country (in the hopes that his relationship with Pokwang comes to fruition) and the foreign actor replied, “If I miss my flight yeah definitely (laughs). I’m totally open to working in the Philippines and around the world so returning here would not be weird. To me it’s part of the plan,” he said.

AY bagong teleseye si Vina Morales ngayon sa ABS-CBN, ang Nasaan Ka Ng Kailangan Kita na mapapanood simula July 19 sa Kapamilya Gold pagkatapos ng Flordeliza. Ang bagong teleserye, ayon kay Ricky Lee ay inspired ng pelikulang Nasaan Ka Ng Kailangan Kita na ipinalabas noong 1986 at ginampanan nina Susan Roces, Hilda Koronel, Janice de Belen, Aga Muhlach, Richard Gomez at marami pang iba. Gagampanan ni Vina ang role ni Cecilia na unang pinortray noon ni Susan Roces. fter spending time in the country with his family during the holidays, Tragic Theater actor John Estrada admitted he is relieved that his horror movie has finally hit theaters starting this month. John said he was really affected when co-star Andi Eigenmann got into an accident while doing a scene with him last December “Una shocked talaga kami. Naisip ko shocked na, ‘wow totoo ito’ kamusta si Andi, parang ano kayang parte ang nabali sa kanya? But we’re just thankful talaga na walang nangyari sa kanya. Ako honestly nung nahulog si Andi ang sabi ko hindi na matutuloy itong pelikulang ito. Nawalan siya ng malay at saka iyak lang siya ng iyak. Kaya nga bilib ako kay Andi talaga,” he said. John admitted he got really scared by the incident, “Oo, sobra. First time ko in twenty plus years, first time ko nakita ang ganung aksidente.” With the film currently on its regular run, the actor was proud to say the movie is worth all the hype (after the MTRCB initially gave it a double X rating last month but has now changed it to R-16). “We’re excited siyempre medyo natatakot ng kaunti but more of excitement dahil sa wakas mapapanuod niyo na ang Tragic Theater at pinapangako namin na medyo matatakot kayo dito dahil sa ganda ng pelikula. Aside from finally marrying his longtime girlfriend Marian Rivera, another definitive milestone by Dingdong Dantes this year as well as Director Erik Matti and producer Dondon Monteverde is creating and having Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles, the second movie in the franchise. Kubot is the on the dot continuation of Makoy’s (Dingdong Dantes) battle against the aswangs, whose first clan, the Tiltiks, he defeated during the franchise’s first installment. It started from when he left Pulupandan with his newborn son Macky and wife Sonia (Hannah Ledesma) to head to Manila for safety. Little did Makoy know is that his encounter with the aswangs is far from over as he stumble upon a group of them while on the way to Manila and even in the metro itself. Incomparable movie effects, production design and make up Although they didn’t employ the same textured and rust-like cinematography they employed on Tiktik, Erik Matti nevertheless made sure that they did not scrimp on the effects used for the Kubots, especially in giving life to their unbelievably voluminous and fatal hair. Aside from that there’s also the notable transformation of the other aswangs on the flick like the Dagits and the Moromogs, the dictatorial clan of the film’s antagonist played by the returning KC Montero. Set in Manila, Kubot’s background w a s dotted with aswang fight scenes and chases along marblecolumned buildings, old family houses, filthy and busy streets as well as open rooftops, where Makoy’s house was also situated. Matrix-like fight scenes If you have enjoyed how Makoy and Nestor (Joey Marquez) slashed, beheaded a n d torched Tiktiks on the first movie, t h e n we can assure you that t h e y have more of that in Kubot. As a cherry to the cake, you won’t only get to see the m a l e characters wielding the weapons but even the female characters as well. Such is what Lotlot de Leon and Isabelle Daza, much to the audiences’ shock did. If anything, this movie could very well launch Isabelle as the next action star with the way she has portrayed her mysterious and very aswang-ready character. of the cast While Joey’s character was a little too stiff and subdued on Tiktik, you would see a far more candid and energetic Nestor on Kubot as supported by the well-loved meddling character of Lotlot, who plays the role of Makoy’s older sister. Together, Joey and Lotlot’s dynamism and organic delivery of the punchlines made the entire film part comedy and part satirical. The two were also supported by the equally insane characters of Ramon Bautista, June Sabayton and Bogart The Explorer. Hannah for her part did well as the new and far silent Sonia, a role that was previously portrayed by Lovi Poe. But more than the revelation of Lotlot’s comic nature, it was Isabelle who truly showed her actor’s mettle on the film. It’s as if her role on the flick was a mere culmination of her real-life mysterious aura paired with her active lifestyle. Last but not the least but definitely worth the mention was Elizabeth Oropesa who played the role of the leader of the Kubots named Veron, whose piercing eyes alone and vindictive facial expression very well made her for an utterly eerie nemesis. The ‘patriotic’ side of the Aswang story Adventure-cum-comedy flicks like Kubot are often written off as mere eye candies with no real value to contribute to their audiences’ consciousness. But such wasn’t the case in Kubot. For starters there’s the notable effort of Erik Matti and screenwriter Michiko Yamamoto to unearth and instill long-forgotten folklore to the modern moviegoers by dabbling on the concept of the local aswangs such as the Tiktiks and then the Kubots (or the Hubots, Aswangs in the Visayas region). Almost all the characters had their own moments wherein they shared a few common Filipino traits such that of concern, familial love, and ingenuity, among others. THE FINALE As we all know, just last month Dingdong, as well as the other producers of the film, signed a contract that made The Aswang Chronicles a franchise which means Kubot is not the last film. W DIRECTOR TIKOY AGUILUZ WANTS POPE FRANCIS TO BLESS MANILA FILM CENTER

espite the strong buzz that Tragic Theater’s trailer has created online, director Tikoy Aguiluz remains frustrated over the fact that he wasn’t granted by the Cultural Center of the Philippines permission to shoot at the actual Manila Film Center. Tagged as one of the Most Haunted places in Manila, Aguiluz, in an exclusive interview with Push.com.ph during the premiere night of his first horror film revealed that the film wasn’t shot at the actual Manila Film Center. “They never formally replied to me why they didn’t allow us,” he said. The Manila Film Center has been the subject of controversies due to an accident that happened during the final stages of its construction in 1981 when some scaffolding collapsed which purportedly led to the burying of some 169 workers under some cement. Reports have it that the rescuers were only allowed to go into the scene some nine hours after it happened, supposedly leaving the other workers to be entombed alive. To this day, the incident has spawned several speculations that a cover up for the Marcos Administration supposedly happened hence the lack of proper investigation.

“So apparently during the course of our research, even the accident noong nangyari siya noong 1981 may cover up na naganap. Feeling ko, ano ba ito Martial Law nanaman ba tayo 2015 na? So I was very frustrated,” he lamented about not being granted the permit to shoot. Believing that it’s a story that “needs to be told” he underscored that, “There was a crime that was committed. Nagkaroon ng injustice and until now nobody knows kung sino ang mga namatay at kung ano talaga ang nangyari.” Apart from creating a top-caliber horror film, Aguiluz revealed that part of his objective in creating Tragic Theater is to have Pope Francis bless the said haunted venue. “Kasi based on my research and my experience with working on the film industry marami talagang mga espirito diyan na nagaantay na mapalaya, na ma-bless sila, na malaman ng pamilya, based on the experience of the [spirit] questors kung sino talaga sila, kung ano ang nangyari sa kanila. Hindi sila mananahimik. “So siguro pagdating ng Papa magkakaroon tayo ng focus doon sana. Maski hindi siya, maski si Arsobispo. Hindi ba? Maski ‘yung local church, maski ‘yung church ng Pasay near the site. They can do a final blessing of the place to give peace to the souls that have been buried there for years,” he said. While the incident has almost been forgotten, he believes that the new generation can aidein putting it once again into the spotlight. “Gusto ko malaman especially ng generation ngayon na 15-35, the Facebook generation na hindi nila alam ang mga nangyari na ito. Kailangan magkaroon ng awareness sa nangyaring ito. Hindi ito guni-guni. Hindi ito urban legend. Ito po ay totoong nangyari. Ito po ay totoo na crime na tinago,” Aguiluz stressed. hen it first made headlines last month after making history as the first Pinoy horror movie to earn two X ratings from the MTRCB, the public wondered how scary Tragic Theater could really be. Unlike the usual scary sequences that rely on violent deaths and grotesque or demented characters, this Tikoy Aguiluz-film based on a novel by G.M. Coronel about a group of spirit communicators who attempted to exorcise the ghosts of more than a hundred construction crew members who were buried alive during the rushed construction of the Manila Film Center in 1981. Tragic Theater starts out simply enough with Department of Tourism employee Annie Francisco (Andi Eigenmann) visiting her counseling priest Father Nilo (John Estrada) because she is part of a special project to rehabilitate an abandoned theater which is rumored to be haunted. Father Nilo assembles his group for a visit along with Annie and they are able to communicate with some of the dead who make it known that they do not want to be disturbed. The movie succeeds in its creepy undertones not just because we know the story is based on true-to-life events, but because it is not reliant on CGI and instead uses physical movement, which some of the stars admitted required numerous takes in order to get the desired effects. Although it was scary enough, some scenes seemed a bit stretched out which lessened the overall impact. Andi Eigenmann is a fragile woman who has been trying to get over past trauma and John Estrada is impressive as a sympathetic priest who wants to help her battle her inner demons. During the exorcism scenes, it looks like the film decides to totally depart from the back story of the lost souls in the abandoned theater and deal with a new demonic entity that arrives after the tragedy occurred. This faceless evil manages to possess one of the members of the group which leaves everybody helpless until Bishop Agcaoili (Christopher De Leon) is called upon to perform an exorcism, a ritual which he does not seem all too confident to do again after a failure that happened in the past. Although not much else is explained about his character, Christopher does his best to give justice to the role of the guy who try saves the day. If there is anything Tragic Theater seems to be trying to do, it is to give the Filipino audience a closer view at what happens during an actual exorcism and what may or may not be going through the possessed person’s mind. It is this kind of psychological warfare that may actually be the scariest thing. If you enjoy a good horror story without needing to be grossed out or have that too-scared-to-look kind of feeling, then Tragic Theater promises you that dreaded feeling all horror fans enjoy up until the very last scene. Derek Ramsay and Jennylyn Mercado’s first foray into rom-com, English Only, Please!, has got netizens buzzing and moviegoers lining up. Not only because the film has earned them the top acting awards in the recently-concluded 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival, but mostly because of its overall light feel. While many thought that the plot of two broken hearts finding love in each other’s arms is fairly run-of-the-mill, people continue to gush about Derek and Jennylyn’s surprising chemistry as well as the film’s catchy, dictionary-like editing.
