Services grew 7.9 percent and industry recorded its highest growth in five consecutive quarters at 8.7 percent. Investments also boosted the economy, with fixed capital posting 25.5 percent growth. “Security will be very, very strict. Females will be closely frisked, ‘yung mga undergarments nang kaunti. “No lighters, no cigarettes will be allowed. Binabawal namin ‘yung big bags, with containers. Yung behaviors of our attendees will be closely monitored,” dagdag pa ni Ms. Dalisay.
“As you can see, cloud clusters are now covering most areas in the Philippines and more are coming. This is a classical manifestation of the onset of the rainy season,” wika ni Cayanan. “Kung kukwentahin natin, not totally 100 percent nakuha ‘yung criteria (for rainy season announcement) na kailangan. In-assess na po natin for the next three to five days weather, kaya inagahan na po namin ‘yung pag-announce,” dagdag niya. “Nakikita na po kasi natin ‘yung impact (of the rain),” sabi pa
SPECIAL FEATURE:
A Silent Noise of Success

Our forecast up to October is 8 to 17 ‘yung tinatayang number of cyclones,” paliwanag ni Cayanan.
Sense is a physiological capacity that provides data for perception. We have five traditionally recognized senses: Sight (ophthalmoception), hearing (audioception), taste (gustaoception), smell (olfacoception or olfacception), and touch (tactioception). Hearing or audition (audioception; adjectival form: auditory) is the sense of sound perception. Hearing is all about vibration. Mechanoreceptors turn motion into electrical nerve pulses, which are located in the inner ear. But what if one day, all of a sudden, we lose one of the five? The term deaf was used to identify a person who was either deaf using a sign language or both deaf and could not speak. The term continues to be used to refer to deaf people who cannot speak an oral language or have some degree of speaking ability, but choose not to speak because of the negative or unwanted attention atypical voices sometimes attract. Such people communicate using sign language. Meet Rommel or Omie, a multi-talented deaf, president of the Filipino Deaf Visual Art Group who recently bagged the BEST FILM category in the Baguio Film Award for his film, The Touch of Sound. The movie is based on a true story of a man who unveils the color of life through his art. Let’s get to know him well and be inspired of his story. How old are you when you found out that you’re deaf? O: I was a happy baby. I cry. I laugh. But when I reached the age of two, I had high fever and overdose antibiotics and it lead to my hearing impairment. It was hard for me to speak because of my inability to hear. How did you handle your situation? O: I was blessed with a family who has shown me love. They were very supportive and taught me everything. Did you ever lose hope? O: My mom showed me so much love even if it means sacrifice. We transferred here in Manila; she worked hard so she can send me to a deaf school in Pasay. As a student I did enjoy everything about life. Especially when I learn the bible, it taught me that in God’s eye, we are all the same. We must do well and be right. How did you become an artist? O: Ever since I was in elementary and high school, I received awards and recognitions because of my talent in sketching. God is so good that even though I am deaf he bestowed me with this gift. The gift of talent that I can share the world how blessed I
am despite my incapability. Do you believe that your talent is a blessing in disguise? O: Yes. I thank God for his goodness. Despite at times I felt being discriminated because I am deaf, I believe that if I will be patient, I can conquer the world and pursue my dreams. Finish my studies and explore what life has to offer. In your opinion, what are the advantages and disadvantages of being deaf? O: I traveled the Philippines and Vietnam. And I have a decent work that I can be proud of. I have my family, wife, children, and mother who are all very supportive, what more can I ask for? There are no advantages and disadvantages, as long as you don’t lose hope, you work hard to achieve all your dreams. God is so good to give me a life to live. Lastly, what will be your advice to other deaf who are afraid? How will you inspire them? O: I think they should get out of their comfort zone. Show their talent. And just work hard.

PHILIPPINES, THE FASTEST GROWING ECONOMY OF 2016 With election spending expected to boost second-quarter growth to over 7 percent, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Emmanuel F. Esguerra said the economy was “on track” to reach at least the lower end of this year’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth target of 6.8 to 7.8 percent. It puts the economic expansion during outgoing President Aquino’s six-year term at 6.2 percent, the highest since 1978. According to President Rodrigo Duterte who will take the office by June 30, "We are pleased to be turning over strong and stable economy to the next administration." Philippine Statistics Authority data showed that the first-quarter
growth figure matched the 6.9 percent posted in the fourth quarter of 2014. Finance Secretary Cesar V. Purisima, for his part, said the next administration would inherit a rapidly growing, vibrant Philippines cushioned by robust foundations built over six years. Purisima said the Aquino administration was leaving the Philippines in a much better place than when it first found it. “No longer the sick man of Asia, the Philippines emerges more confident and more optimistic than ever, demanding to be governed by even higher standards of governance than before,” he said.

The Talas Manileño brings one back to the feel of luxurious gentlemanly lifestyle, exuding vintage charm with wood finishing, antique chairs, and old world décor. But the old world charm is not unimaginably pricey, with fees ranging from P300 and up. Even more charming is how the services are wittingly named: the variations of the pompadour haircut such as the signature Manileño and the Talas Batangas, a cut and shave combo called Tasa’t Ahit, the Pisil massage, the Tina hair color, with a drink of choice between whiskey, beer, and coffee. The shop also sells concept pomade to keep the pompadour style in place. Talas Manileño is located in Cubao Expo, Quezon City and opens its doors from 1- 9 PM.
The internationally-renowned chef served “bringhe”at the Embassy Chef Challenge – described by the US-Philippines Society media release as made from “three heirloom Cordillera rice varieties, taba ng talangka, dried mango, inasal na bangus, and glazed pili nuts. The heirloom rice mix consisted of Eight Wonder Mountain violet sticky rice, Ulikan Red and Tinawon white topped with the national fish bangus (milkfish) from Sarangani Bay, and sprinkled with the unique Bicol’s pili nuts, Cebu’s dried mangoes, Datu Puti patis (fish sauce) and calamansi extract.” Tayag paired the Filipino dish with a special cocktail by mixologist Enzo Lim. Speaking about the recognition, Chef Tayag said, “The Embassy Chef Challenge is a wonderful opportunity to showcase not just the unique flavors of Philippine cuisine but also the accessibility of our food. It has been said that food culture is a reflection of a nation’s soul, and so I intended our offering to be a culinary demonstration of our people’s inherent openness and generosity. After all, Filipino cuisine is meant to be shared.” The Pampanga-native, aside from being a chef, is also an acclaimed artist and food writer. His advocacy for the Pampango cuisine has taken him to the Madrid Fusion Manila congress, amd the Memphis May International Festival. Tayag and wife Mary Ann serves traditional cuisine in their Bale Dutung (Wooden House) restaurant in Pampanga, listed as one of the 101 Best in Asia dining spots and was visited and featured in writer-chef Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations” TV show. Chef Tayag’s win marks the first time for the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. to join the competition.

chicken teriyaki hs thig
8 tablespoons light soy sauce 2 tablespoons sake (rice wine) or sherry 4 tablespoons water 1 tablespoon brown sugar 4 tablespoons granulated white sugar 1½ teaspoons minced garlic 1½ teaspoons grated ginger
Instructions • Heat a saucepan. • Pour-in the soy sauce, water, and rice
Ingredients 1 lb. chicken thighs, cut into serving pieces 1 serving Teriyaki Sauce (get the recipe here)
• Gradually add the white and brown sugars. Stir. • Add the garlic and ginger. Stir and then cook until the liquid starts boiling. • Turn the heat off. Stir to dissolve the sugar. • Let the mixture pass through a strainer to trap the garlic and ginger. • Let cool. Serve as a sauce or use as an ingredient to cook your favorite teriyaki dish.
1 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper ½ teaspoon Garlic powder A pinch of salt 1 tablespoon roasted sesame seeds
Instructions 1. Arrange the chicken in a mixing bowl. Pour the teriyaki sauce in the bowl and add garlic powder, salt, and ground black pepper. Mix well. Cover the mixing bowl. Marinate the chicken overnight. Make sure to place the chicken inside the refrigerator. Teriyaki Chicken Thighs is a version of Chicken Teriyaki using your homemade teriyaki sauce with garlic powder, salt, and ground black pepper. It is easy to prepare chicken teriyaki thighs; all you need to do is to make teriyaki sauce. When grilling the marinated chicken with skin-on, expect the skin to get a bit burnt afterwards. You can avoid it by removing the skin before grilling the chicken, or remove it at the middle of the grilling process. While some usually leave the skin intact on other similar recipes, in this recipe, you could removed the chicken skin after a few minutes. If you did this, the chicken meat can still absorb some oil from the skin which helps keep it moist. This can be enjoyed with regular white rice, You could also use it with old school warm white rice with “Pandan” leaves — you know — the type of rice that our grandmother used to prepare in the Philippines.
2. Grill the chicken. You can use any type of grill. I am using a grill plate (on a stovetop). Grill one side of the chicken for 5 minutes and then flip it over and grill the other side for 5 minutes. 3. Remove the skin from the chicken. Continue to grill both sides for 7 to 10 minutes per side or until the chicken is fully cooked. Make sure to baste the chicken with the leftover marinade every 3 minutes to keep it moist. 4. Transfer to a serving plate. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top. Share and enjoy!

Hiking business in Brgy. Wawa Rodriguez Rizal
Pamitinan at Mt. Binacayan.
First Issue.indd 5
First climbing experience

Gemini - May. 22 - June.

JUNE 2016 / first issue
Sagittarius - Nov. 23 - Dec. 21
Taurus - April. 21 - May. 21

CHRISTIAN BAUTISTA, ANDREA AT SEF, MAGKAIBIGAN O MAGKA-IBIGAN? ESSANG TORRES KASALI SA AWARD-WINNING MUSICAL SHOWS
“I’m still flabbergasted and the production team [Les Misérables - Manila] has said, ‘She’s wonderful. She’s wonderfully talented. We love her. We love her in the company,’” kwento ni Lea Salonga, ang coach ni Essang sa The Voice Kids noong sumali s’ya at maging grand finalist noong isang taon. “I was like, ‘You have no idea how proud I am of that kid. She’s really talented, really special.”

SARAH GERONIMO, WALA MUNANG SHOW
“We are disappointed that she cannot share the stage with her fans in the Philippines and with the world on June 24th. We wish Sarah a speedy recovery.
Samantala, pinangalanan din ang pelikula na idinirek ni Diane Ventura bilang Best Narrative Feature award “To God be the glory. congratulation to everyone involved in this movie and congratulations to my director @mariadianeventura.” Ventura at nanalo sila ulit. Mabuhay Jake at sa Mulat film, more-more!
JACLYN JOSE: FIRST SOUTHEAST ASIAN ACTRESS TO WIN AT CANNES Mula pahina 1
“I’m at a loss for words! I am so surprised and moved. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the jury members,” saad ni Jaclyn sa kanyang speech. “I thank Brillante Mendoza, whose instructions I simply followed. He’s a brilliant director. I am so happy you liked the film. I’d like to salute the Philippine people.” “Congratulations. You have done us proud, the Filipino people,” saad nito.
