PAUL BOWDEN-BROWN May I welcome the officials, management and players and, most importantly, the supporters of Faversham Town FC on this Sunday afternoon to Princes Park our home for the next four years. I would like to welcome all those supporters new and old that have decided to support Thamesmead Town this coming season. As you will have read, I have negotiated a partnership with Millwall Supporters Association that allows their members to join us as a Mead Card holder at all of our home matches. They will to join our friends from Dartford who, since our move to Princes Park, have joined us in great numbers, so I hope this season we will see a rise in gate numbers because, as I have said many times, the supporters act as a 12th man. Tommy has been busy over the pre-season period as you will see by the new names on the team sheet. It amazes me where Tommy finds these players, but he does and, to be honest, I feel that while we missed out on

a play-off position last season, we could breach that gap this season. I know better than most you can never just assume things will happen, all we can do is to continue supporting the management and players. There will be good Saturday or Sunday afternoons and others not so good, but whatever we must just get on with the job. If player determination has anything to do with it like what was shown during our Kent Senior Cup game at Ashford United, then we are for a treat this season. We ended up with a 3-3 scoreline and then won 8-7 on penalties. The squad was full of new faces and young players, but every single person on that pitch made me proud. The reason I was proud the team was, on the back of a 5-1 loss on Saturday at Hastings, together with a number of key players suffering from injuries,

they went out there and played the game we all love. I only wish there were more of our own supporters able to travel to see such games, I believe the players deserve our support. My main consideration this season is to gain higher gates, not for the money through the turnstiles, but to give the players supporters to play in front of. I believe we will not benefit playing at Princes Park until we have more supporters around the ground and I hope that our friends from Millwall & Dartford can assist us in this quest. As you will have heard, we have now a new under-23 team in operation as well as four young teams playing in the Kent League. This is the start of the initiative of making this club a real football club rather than a one team club as we have been

Hopefully, with the continued support from Welling Youth FC, we will have a large contingency of youth teams joining us next season making us a real community club, so watch this space.
I, therefore, brought a young, professional lady into the club by the name of Sonya and, with her team of volunteers, we hope to rectify this.
Finally I was advised by those around me that we were not marketing the football club whether it be by social media
I hope very shortly we will have a brand new website in operation together with active social media accounts. I am told that we are getting
over 1500 hits - whatever that means - and it is estimated this will rise to over 5000 once we are fully operational, so please all look at the social media accounts and be involved in your own club. TOMMY WARRILOW May I welcome the officials, team and supporters of Faversham Town to the SCT this Sunday afternoon and after an enjoyable afternoon they all have a safe journey home. Good afternoon and a warm welcome to Ray Turner and Clive Walker and everyone connected to Faversham Town. I have a lot of time for both Ray and Clive and wish them every success for the coming season. I would also obviously like to welcome all our supporters, too, to the start of what I hope will be an enjoyable and successful season. Well after a reasonably positive pre season, we got off to worse possible start last week in a game we didn’t deserve to win, but at the same time was never a 5-1 game ! In football you have to take

things on the chin and dust yourself down and start again, and that is exactly what I intend to do. I saw some good things last Saturday as well as the bad and it is easy to state the obvious that the result was not good enough, but in management it is about rectifying the reasons why. We spoke in-depth about the reasons why things went wrong after the game on Saturday and a few home truths were told. To be honest, it was a pretty one-way conversation which I expected after a result like that, but it is important not to dwell on it and move on because these lads have got great potential to do well this

season. We went to Ashford on Tuesday night and made five changes and the lads put in a good honest, hardworking performance and raised the spirits of the squad who were still hurting from Saturday’s result. We played some good stuff and scored three good goals. The downside was we picked up more injuries which was the one thing we had to avoid this season. We come away winning the tie on penalties, but it didn’t feel like that because of the injuries and playing the game this early in the season was something I was not happy about !

As per every season, I am expecting a lot from my squad. We, as a club, are growing in strength with an under-23’s side and the start of youth teams within the club aswell. It will be a big ask asking some of these players to step up straight away to the firstteam squad, but this does not mean we will not be pushing the lads to achieve this. On the injury front, we currently having a really bad run of luck.
We are currently waiting on updates for John Coker, Williams Danquah, Tom O’Connor, Danny Paris, Chigozie Agwuegbo, Michael Adolfo and Aaron McCallum. Obviously looking at that list, it shows how well the boys performed the other night at Ashford. I got some lads back in that were with us pre-season to play at Ashford and had another look at them and they aquitted themselves well.
The substitutes at Hastings started too and again didn’t let themselves down. All in all, it has been the most eventful start to a season I have ever experienced as a manager regarding picking up injuries! But as the saying goes, ‘these things are sent to test us ‘. mead matters PETER TIERNEY All at the club would like to thank everyone who recently attended Peter’s funeral giving one of our founder members and Vice Presidents the send off he deserved. We had planned a matchday tribute to Peter this afternoon, but sadly the family were unable to be with us and so we will say our own goodbye to Peter when we host SITTINNGBOURNE on Saturday 1st September.

FAVERSHAM TOWN After all the successes of the World Cup in the summer, this afternoon we welcome the only league side in the Country that have “The Three Lions” on their badge. Faversham Town endured a frustrating 2017-2018 season after flirting with the Ryman play-offs with many results disappointing to boss Ray Turner and his assistant Clive Walker. Three play-off appearances in four years between 2013
and 2016 saw two final defeats to Maidstone United and Worthing and a semifinal defeat to Merstham on penalties in 2015 emphasises the consistency that the Lillywhite’s have become associated with.

RECENT CLUB HISTORY Season 2007/08 saw the arrival of Justin Luchford and Jimmy Strouts taking over the management with Town second bottom of the league. The team sunk to bottom before the pair gradually steered them up to mid table. Strouts soon left for personal reasons and Luchford, along with Clive Walker, took the Lilywhites to the Kent Senior Trophy final in season 2009/10, beating Greenwich 2-1 to lift the trophy. A week later, they were crowned Kent League Premier Division champions. Towards the end of his first season in the Ryman League, and with Town within touching distance of the play-offs, Luchford resigned. His place was taken by his assistant Ray Turner. Turner took charge of the last seven league games securing eighth spot - the highest position of any Kent team competing at that level. Having consolidated their position as a mid-table Ryman South side during the first two years of Turner’s reign, Faversham embarked on one of the best seasons in the club’s history during the 2012/13 season. The Lilywhites lost just three away league games all campaign on their way to finish third and reach the Ryman South play-off final against all odds. However, at Maidstone United’s newly-built Gallagher Stadium in front of a 2,226 strong-crowd, Town were unable to pull off one final upset against a side with huge investment and backing. Maidstone cruising to a 3-0 victory
to deny Faversham their first taste of Ryman Premier League football. Town spent the majority of the 2013/14 campaign just outside the play-offs, and ultimately had to settle for tenth position in their fourth season in the Ryman South. Off the pitch, Town continued to grow with another significant advance. They came together with nearby Faversham Town Youth & Juniors to form a new youth section. The move also created a route through from youth development into the senior side and enabled the newly-expanded club achieved FA Charter Standard Community Club rank. The Lilywhites took another step forward in February 2014 with the announcement of an ambitious project to redevelop Shepherd Neame Stadium. The plans - broken down into five phases - include rebuilding the changing rooms, adding hospitality an function rooms, extra seating in the stands and a new stadium entrance. A coffee shop and retail store will then be added, with meeting rooms and offices also being built to bring in additional revenue. A new 120-seater stand, fitness centre and sports hall will also be built. Fundraising for the project then began. Faversham had a productive 2014/15 season, scoring 111 league goals and amassing a record 97 points to finish in third place in the Ryman South for the second time in three seasons. But the club suffered more play-off heartache, as they lost 5-4 on
penalties at home to Merstham in their Ryman South Play-off Semi-Final following a goalless draw away. Faversham came fifth at the end of the 2015-16 season, again reaching the play-offs, but after beating Dorking Wanderers 2-1 in the semi-final they lost 3-0 to Worthing in the final, leaving them knocking once more on the door of the Ryman Premier Division. The 2016/17 season was one of transition for the Lilywhites on the pitch, and success off it as they forged ahead with Phase One their ambitious rebuilding programme. A tenth place finish was achieved with a young squad as manager Ray Turner dealt with a number of unexpected player departures, which led to a mid-season wobble. However, in May 2017 MP Helen Whately opened the new changing rooms as the first stage of the stadium redevelopment was finally completed. Another significant advance came when, for the first time, the club were able to field Kent Youth League standard squads at every age group from Under 13s upwards in the 2017/18 campaign. In a further development, the Under 21s also switched to become an Under 23 Development team with the aim of helping young players bridge the gap from the Under 18s to the first team. The progress marked the fruition of a vision set out five years earlier by Turner and Head of Youth Chris Greenfield, who was promoted to Under 23s Manager.

Thamesmead F.C. was formed in 1969 as a community team for local youngsters. The club merged with Southlake FC in 1973, and by 1979 were fielding a Saturday team, playing on local park pitches. In 1980 the club entered the London Spartan League at the Intermediate Division Three level and dominated the divisions in the early 80s, but were couldn’t gain promotion to the Senior Division until they gained senior status. In 1985, the club changed its name to Thamesmead Town FC, and later that year they relocated to Bayliss Avenue, before finally gaining senior status during the summer of 1987 and were accepted into the London Spartan League Premier Division. The club moved to the Kent League in June 1990, where they remained until 2008, generally finishing amongst the top half dozen in the table. In 2002–03, the club missed the runner-up spot on goal difference, despite bizarrely having more points than Cray Wanderers, who won the League! Keith McMahon took the helm in the summer of 2006 and this would be the beginning of a new successful era for Thamesmead. In 2007–08, Thamesmead Town were champions of the Kent League, winning the title on the last day of the season. The title ensured promotion to the Isthmian League, where they were elected to play in Division One North in 2008–09. The summer of 2009 saw work begin to give Bayliss Avenue a massive transformation as work began on “Sportsman Club Thamesmead” The Project aimed to deliver first class facilities for the local community as well as a stadium suitable for Conference South which
Thamesmead town was hoped to be completed for the start of the 2010/11 season. However, delays ensured and it was at this time around September 2012 that former Maidstone United Chairman Paul Bowden-Brown became involved in the club as a director, with the main aim of stabilizing the finances off the field and then during January 2015 became outright owner of the club as chairman. When Keith McMahon resigned in early 2015. Before in 2012-13, the Mead finished 3rd in this division and beat Maldon & Tiptree on penalties in the final to gain promotion to the Isthmian Premier Division for the first time in their history. The club’s stay in the Premier Division lasted just one season, and the club endured two turbulent seasons, after Keith McMahon resignation The Chairman appointed Terry Spillane as his replacement unfortunately his reign was terminated by the Chairman early 2016 although the team was in the play-off positions. In the summer of 2016 the Chairman appointed Tommy Warrilow as the first-team manager, and with a new man at the helm came fresh hopes for the season, as Warrilow alongside his number two former Leather and Dartford skipper Alex O’Brien looked to take the club back to the Bostik Premier League. Pre-season began with a completely new-look squad yet it proved to be a historic season in the FA Cup, when the club were the first to play a tie in the Channel Islands before reaching the Third Qualifying Round for the first time in the club’s history. In March 2017, the Chairman announced that the Club due to unacceptable rising costs at Baylis Avenue the Chairman had reached
agreement with the Directors of Dartford FC to enter into a five- year Ground share Agreement that would allow the Club to play their home games at Princes Park Stadium. During the 2017-2018 close season, this Groundshare was formally sanctioned by the new Bostik league directors, as well as confirming that for the first time, the Mead would be competing in the South Division for the upcoming season. In August 2017, the club enjoyed a record 8-0 win in the FA Cup (away to East Preston) which was not only the Clubs biggest ever win in the competition but was also the first time, we have won a competitive game by eight clear goals! By the end of 2017-2018 season, the club had netted over one hundred League goals but missed out on the end of season Play Offs. Season 2018-2019 dawns with some new personnel but with the same targets…

We’re going through changes The summer of 2018 saw major upheavals of Step Four and Step Five of the English Footballing Pyramid with fresh division’s being added that had some applauding but left some shaking their heads in disbelief that traditional rivalries had been ripped apart leaving neighbouring clubs heading in completely opposite directions along the M25! We set Greenie the task of trying to explain the changes… We ended last season speculating who would be our opponents this season given that in the last two seasons the Mead have “starred” in both the BOSTIK League North and South Divisions. So imagine our pleasant “surprise” when the reorganisation was announced and now with three divisions of 20 clubs rather than two of 24 feed into the PREMIER DIVISION with the “traditional” NORTH DIVISION remaining,

with the South being expanded and replaced by BOSTIK SOUTH EAST and BOSTIK SOUTH CENTRAL. And so the Mead will be playing in the BOSTIK South East which is a division made up predominantly of Kentbased sides, including newly promoted Sevenoaks Town and Whitstable Town along with five Sussex-based sides along with Whyteleafe and Guernsey. But, while we welcome the

new sides into the division this year – the already mentioned Sevenoaks and Whitstable from the “Kent League”, along with Haywards Heath and Three Bridges – what happened to those “leaving use” from last season? We said goodbye to the promoted Lewes, Carshalton Athletic, Walton Casuals and Corinthian Casuals – still not sure how the losing play-off finalists can get promoted, but still – and the relegated Shoreham to whom we wish a
