THE MANAGER
CHRIS BOLDER
Welcome to the Chadwick Stadium as we take on Warrington Town. I hope everyone enjoys a great afternoon of football. We were obviously delighted with the three points against South Shields and that will give the lads a lot of confidence as they are one of the fancied teams in the division. It was an outstanding, all-round team performance, we defended exceptionally well as a full unit and also looked a threat going forward. The lads have performed very well in the first few games and the games have hinged on key moments at key times, so we knew we weren’t too far away from picking up the first victory. Luke Hinsley came into the side and gave us that much-needed experience at this level. His overall performance helped give us a platform in attack, as well as defending from the front and he formed a good partnership with Jordan Harrison. We had made contact with Luke in previous weeks as he was looking for firstteam football and finally got him sorted over the Bank Holiday weekend. Warrington Town are another very strong side in the division and have made a steady start to the league campaign.
They have kept two clean sheets in their previous games, so they will be looking to add goals to that solidity. They, like many other teams, are probably still gelling together as a team and the more games they play the more this will develop, so we are expecting a very tough afternoon. At this moment in time, we are not looking to bring anyone else in as we feel we have a settled squad of players. We have some lads that have dual signed with other teams in order to keep up their fitness levels and, hopefully, take that chance when it arises. We have a couple of lads carrying minor knocks, but this is to be expected following the burst of games played already. Eddie Rogerson is the only real doubt as he is nursing a slight groin problem, but hopefully won’t be unavailable for too much longer. Once again our fans have been excellent and have really got behind the lads which is greatly appreciated. Chris Bolder First-Team Manager

THE CAPTAIN
James Piercy
A warm welcome to all North Ferriby United fans as we host Warrington Town in the Evo-Stik Premier Division
There is no better feeling than getting that first win of the season. It was a great performance by the lads from start to finish. To a man, everyone put in a shift on Monday against a very good South Shields outfit, who like to have possession of the ball for large parts of the game. It was great to come out with a clean sheet and that can now kick start our season and we can start going from strength to strength. We had belief in the camp that this result was coming and we knew after the first three games we had been there or thereabouts. Certain things had not gone our way which have, ultimately, decided the results of games, so we knew that if we could turn up on Monday and put in a 90-minute performance, then we could come out with a positive result which we did. Chris didn’t tell us to do anything different before the game and to carry on how we performed against Mickleover 4
Sports. The gaffer has shown belief in us as players and has always believed that a result like Monday’s was around the corner if we continued to do what we were doing as a team. We wanted to carry on the momentum we gained from a positive second half against Mickleover in which we proved what we can do with a bit of belief in ourselves. In terms of today’s opposition, Warrington have only lost once and in the past three games they are unbeaten with two draws and a win, with only one goal conceded in the past three, too. So I’m expecting a tough game, so we will have too apply ourselves correctly to ensure we come away with the three points. Enjoy the game today, get behind the lads because the support so far has been great and, hopefully, we can end the game with the three points to send you all home smiling. War rington Town Warrington Town head to the Chadwick Stadium hoping to return to winning ways after successive 0-0 draws over the Bank Holiday period. The Yellows followed last Saturday’s goalless draw at home to Stalybridge Celtic with another 0-0 away at Bamber Bridge on Monday. Last time out against Bamber Bridge, the hosts missed a first-half penalty in what was a relatively entertaining game that could have been won by either side, but the Yellows had to settle for a point. It leaves them with just five points from their opening four games so far. However, more concerning is that the club have only scored in one of those games - the 3-1 away victory over Lancaster City. Warrington manager Paul Carden was positive, despite seeing his side draw, saying: “It’s not the start we wanted, but I think you’re seeing now the way the league is with the less teams, less games there’s 12 points less to be won. “I think in general the ratio of points per game is going to be less to win and get promotion. I think the nature of the league this season is there’s teams that have come up and thrown a few quid at it. “You’ve got teams that have come down that seem to have done the same, but then there’s been a lot of building going on.”

WARRINGTON TOWN
recent history The 2014/15 season commenced with the adoption of a new club crest designed by Tom Greaves, it being chosen as a competition winner to replace the long-standing old town coat of arms motif. Further improvement is now the target with a promotion place the ultimate aim. The club made huge steps forward in publicity terms in 2014 reaching the FA Cup First Round Proper for the first time in our history. We were rewarded with a home draw against Exeter City that was shown live on BBC2. We served up a cracker of a match and one that epitomised everything we love about the FA Cup as Town amazingly defeated our Football League opponents 1-0, thanks to a Craig Robinson header after just seven minutes. What an amazing evening. We went on to play Gateshead in Round Two in what was our ninth match in the competition all told, this time live on BT Sports, but sadly the adventure ended there as we lost 2-0. It had been a fantastic adventure that will live long in the memory. The cup success did have an effect on our league campaign as games in hand could not be turned into sufficient points and we finished the season in ninth. However the season was nicely rounded off with a Doodson Sports Cup Final win over Farsley. Twenty years after our first final appearance in this competition also saw the game decided on penalties, but this time we won, the score being 3-2 after the game had ended 0-0 after ninety minutes. It was the club’s first silverware in fifteen years and the highest ranking tournament we have ever won. Town started the 2015/16 slowly, but it did not last long and we led the table on a couple of occasions, before returning there early in 2016 and opening a gap on our only challengers Northwich Victoria. However, on learning that his contract would not be renewed at the seasons end, manager Shaun Reid decided to leave the club in February 2016. Assistants Stuart Mellish and Lee Smith took 10
charge following Shaun’s departure. The form was just as consistent and Town opened up a substantial lead on Northwich and Spennymoor Town. The lead would not be relinquished and Town won the championship on 16th April with two games still to play following a 6-1 thrashing of Prescot Cables in front of 1411 fans and which took us up to 100 league points, a club record. The final two games were also won to see us finish on 106 points and score in every league game through the season. We also registered the most wins and goals scored in a season. It was without doubt the finest moment in the clubs history to date. Life in the Premier Division brought mixed fortunes and inconsistency led to the management duo of Stuart Mellish & Lee Smith leaving the club by mutual consent in mid-October. Paul Carden was appointed as manager at the end of October with former player Mark Beesley as coach and Craig Robinson as assistant manager. The side settled down well after new year and a very consistent run saw us climb into a play off place. We were in with a chance right up until the final couple of games, but finished on a run of draws to end in tenth position. 2017/18 proved to a busy season for Town if ultimately without silverware. A consistent league campaign saw us occupy a play-off place for all bar two Saturday’s throughout the season. The runners-up position was ours from 17th February through to the final match when unfortunately we were pipped by Ashton United on goal difference and ended in third place. Still our best ever finish. Sadly we would lose our play-off semi-final at home to Grantham Town. The FA Trophy saw us play in 10 matches all told, eventually being highly unlucky to exit in round three to Wealdstone, having defeated Ebbsfleet United in the previous round.

blocked and the rebound just ran away from Russ Fry.
Ferriby opened the game with Liam King chipping a 35-yard free-kick to the home keeper Karl Wills. After this, both sides struggled to create any goal threats for much of the half.
The second-half opened with Jamie Yates heading at Wills. However, the game-changing moment came in the 55th minute. Nicklin turned a Metcalfe shot for a corner and, as the ball went out of play, there was an altercation between Matt Wilson and Steve Foster which saw Wilson red-carded for violent conduct.
Ben Wharton had a good opportunity for Warrington after 13 minutes, but Adam Nicklin turned his shot round the post. Ferriby almost took the lead after 18 minutes. Dan Clayton’s cross was cleared to King whose header went wide. Ferriby were once again caught-out by a through-ball, but Scott Metcalfe fired over when he should have scored. Ferriby probably had the greater possession and territorial advantage, but could not offer any real threat to Wills in the Warrington goal. The Villagers were struggling to win second-balls as they were cleared by Warrington and the home-side always offered a threat on the break. There was little of note until the 39th minute when Jamie Yates’ shot was parried by Wills to King whose effort was
As Ferriby pressed, Clayton fired wide when well-placed. Warrington responded with Lewis Field’s angled shot being turned round by Nicklin.
Both sides still struggled to create any serious threat before Field scored the game’s only goal after 66 minutes. With two players in offside positions, the Ferriby defence missed Field running from deep to latch on a through ball which he took past Nicklin, before placing it in an empty net. Gregg Anderson headed over from Fry’s corner at the near post on 76 minutes, while after 87 minutes Nathan Jarman saw his low shot turned-round a post by Wills. Unfortunately, The Villagers could not find the final crucial touch. Ferriby will be reflecting on a missed opportunity to reach the FA Cup First Round Proper but, on the day, they could have no real complaints.

A stirring fight-back in the final 25 minutes was not quite enough to earn North Ferriby a point at Mickleover Sports. Ferriby opened the game well and were the better and more threatening team in the opening 10 minutes. They should have taken the lead in the second minute when Jordan Harrison was through in a one-on-one with home keeper Lewis King. Unfortunately for Ferriby, Harrison’s shot went straight to King who was able to block. John McGrath created problems from dead-ball situations and from one corner, Pablo Mills headed narrowly wide. Ferriby responded with a shot from Harrison that was saved by King in what was the Villagers’ last threat of the half. The opening goal came after 34 minutes from out of nowhere, though it was no more than Sports deserved. Mills picked-up a clearance some 40 yards from goal and hit an absolutely unstoppable shot into the top corner. Ferriby’s heads went down a little at that point. Another former Ferriby player, Nathan Jarman, smacked the ball against the outside of a post, before Mills got his second of the game. Ollie Roberts’ freekick reached the unmarked

Mills to fire home another powerful shot three minutes before the interval. Ferriby fans were probably fearing the worst at half-time and their gloom deepened after 54 minutes. A low cross from the right hit Evan Garnett in the six-yard box and ended up in the net with the striker knowing little about it. It summed-up the Villagers’ evening up to that point. However, credit to Chris Bolder’s players, instead of their heads going down, they responded emphatically and took the game to Mickleover. Norton saw a shot turned round by King, Forrester had one deflected on to the top of the bar and Joe Lamplough had a shot punched clear. Ferriby pulled a goal back after 69 minutes when Norton headed home Forrester’s corner from the right. Many thought this was going to be just a consolation goal, but it spurred Ferriby further. In the 82nd minute, Charlie Dunkerley’s low cross was turned in by James Williamsom to cut the deficit to a single goal. For all their efforts, Ferriby could not find the equaliser, but they had Sports hangingon by the final whistle.

This was an excellent team performance by North Ferriby, who ran out worthy winners. Two goals from Luke Hinsley on his debut and a third from Jordan Harrison sealed the victory. Hinsley and Harrison played as the two strikers and what a difference they made to Ferriby going forward. The strikers will probably take the headlines, but they were backed-up by a midfield that pressed South Shields throughout the game and by a keeper and back-five that remained strong and largely unflappable under pressure. Shields were often forced to play back towards their own goal as they sometimes struggled to find an outlet up front. When they got the ball out wide they looked a threat, especially through Josh Gillies. Shields started well and pressed the Villagers back for the first five minutes, but they were stung after six minutes. A Hinsley shot was deflected for a corner which was taken by Jamie Forrester. The kick found Hinsley at the far-post and he powered a header beyond keeper Liam Connell. Ferriby had the better of the half after this, with Luke Lofts and Hinsley both going close. Lewis Exall made a point-blank save from Robert Briggs which
was the only serious threat that the visitors had in the first-half. On the stroke of half-time, Harrison doubled Ferriby’s lead. A poor clearance from Connell found Harrison and he lobbed the stranded keeper to find the net from 45 yards. As expected, Shields came out after the interval looking to get back in to the game. They had most of the territory and possession but it was Briggs who had the only shot on target, an effort that was wellsaved again by Exall. Other shots from Shields went high or wide as they were forced to shoot from distance because of excellent work by Ferriby’s defence and midfield. The presence of Hinsley and Harrison meant that the Villagers were able to hold up the ball when played forward. This gave the defence and midfield something of a breathing space rather than the ball being returned towards the Ferriby area. With time running-out and Shields still looking for a goal, a quick and decisive break saw Charlie Dunkerley feed Harrison who had the vision and presence of mind to lay the ball off to the unmarked Hinsley. The striker made no mistake with a powerful low shot that made sure of the win.

Sports Traider Charity, Registered Charity No. 1156175
Youth-focused charity offering young people the kit and support they need to discover and fulfil their sporting ambition and potential.
Sports Traider has established the first chain of charity retail shops in the UK that specialise in sports kit and equipment. The aim is to make clothing and sport equipment affordable to all, and at the same time generate a sustainable source of funding to help disadvantaged young people participate in sport. Each year Sports Traider Charity organises a number of events to engage with the sporting community to raise funds and awareness of the charity. The charity is heavily reliant upon donations, both cash and equipment, from the goodwill of members of the public, and corporate businesses. These are received through UK Virgin Money Giving,
collections, Direct Debit, Standing Order, and through corporate and individual membership of our ‘100 Club’. Every contribution is most welcome and makes a difference within the donors’ local community.
