ISSUE 01 Welcome
And so the night has finally come...
As you’ll all by now know, tonight is the Mead’s very first competitive game to be played in our new home at Princes Park! Its been 116 days since we bid farewell to Bayliss Avenue, and over the course of the summer (remember that week in early June?) much has gone on behind the scenes and this evening we’ll all see the fruits of the Chairman’s and others hard work - hopefully!
time around. Like the Gaffer, we’ve kept some things the same and we’ve added some great new features too and we sincerely hope that you like the new mix as much as you did the old one. Tonight we include an interview with our top scorer from the last two years, who’s going to become a Dad before Christmas; a new weekly column from the new first team skipper, and there’s the very latest from Tommy and from the Chairman’s office. Enjoy the game and safe trip home,
In a new league and in a new home, we hope you like the new look that we’ve given to THE MEAD following our award-winning season last

May I welcome the officials, players and supporters of Hythe FC to Princes Park our new home for the next 5 years. When we played Hythe while I was at Maidstone United we always had a tough game and I am sure this has not changed so we can look forward to a challenging evening. I would like to give also a warm welcome to old and new supporters to the match this evening, hopefully we will have many of our landlords supporters joining us this evening, and you are taking advantage of my offer to all the Dartford’s supporters that do not travel away with their team, for a concessionary price of £5 half price of the normal gate price you can become a Mead fan and be given a Mead Card. I am sure you will enjoy the quality of football seen at our matches and I know that there will always be a warm welcome given to you as you

visit us playing at your club’s home. We have also as a favour to John agreed to install SKY in the Champions Bar so you can also arrive early watch a match that may be covered and have some refreshments and a chat with your friends. Well here we are playing our first home match in the Bostik South League this season 17-18, it also brings back a lot of great memories to when I was Chairman of Maidstone United Football Club and the time that we played in the Ryman South in Division I as well as the Premier travelling around the South East of England making many friends both new and old it was a great time in the history of Maidstone and also a great experience for myself. I learn a lot about myself as
well as playing in Non-League Football and I am sure that during the forthcoming season I will meet some old friends something I am looking forward too. Our first game was at Cray last Saturday and as I thought it was a very challenging affair, but we did not have the best start with two of our key players not being available due to injury. But as the quality of our squad we went out onto their new 3g surface and gained a very well-earned point which I thought was a fair result. So, I hope that these players are fit for tonight’s game but if not, hopefully we will continue as we finished last Saturday. I know that Tommy will not sit on his laurels and will keep

working to get it as he wants it to be on the pitch and ensure the players are in the right frame of mind for this match this evening. Well on Saturday we are away to East Preston in the FA Cup, I have always liked travelling to new clubs in the early rounds when we play in either the FA Cup or the Trophy. I always ensure that the team travel to any away game in a good coach supplied by out travelling partner Kings Ferry Coaches, I feel they deserve

it and hopefully it puts them in the right frame of mind to carve out a bit more history for the club. Finally, I would like to thank all those businesses that have agreed to support the club this coming season, either by sponsorship, or advertising it all help we must remember without this revenue there would not be a club, football clubs cannot just rely on a rich benefactor it always ends badly if they do. We are fully aware that as
a club we probably have one of the smallest band of supporters, ever since I have known Thamesmead this has been the case we have tried many initiatives to increase this band of supporters and I hope the Mead Card initiative will go some way to achieve this goal. Now let’s enjoy a good game of football and hopefully have gained three points by the final whistle. Paul Bowden-Brown Director and Owner

TOMMY WARRILOW THE manager
Good evening everyone and welcome to the first home game of a new season – in a new home and in a new League. First up for us tonight is Hythe Town – a club who I had a good time at many years ago and I’m glad to see how they’ve grown and progressed over time and of course enjoyed a fantastic FA Cup run a few years ago. I did have some good times there and will always remember them. Back to the present and we go into tonight’s game on the back of a good point in our opening game of the season at the weekend when we visited Cray Wanderers. It was a very hard-earned point against a side who I believe will be challenging come the end of the season and was a good test as to what we must reach in this new division. With a pre-season behind us and a squad built to PAGE 06
THAMESMEAD TOWN V HYTHE TOWN
work with has made a big difference to our state of mind going into the season this year. Twelve months ago, we found our players on the way through but this year we’ve brought in some new signings to compliment the core of last year which I think finished strongly last season. Our own expectations will be to go out and win every single game that we play but obviously football is never like that. So, it’s important that we concentrate on the positives and work on what goes wrong to make sure that we learn from it in our next performances. I’ve been more than happy with the lad’s attitude during what was a typical pre-season
full of highs and lows. But the important thing was to make sure that he hit the ground running on opening day – especially against a side like Cray – and I think we did more than that and fully deserved the point that we got. I think a draw was a fair result as both sides had chances – I think a defeat would have been cruel on us and so getting a point away from home late on like we did was deserved as we go into tonight against another side who I expect to be there or there a bout’s come the end of April. I believe that tonight is a new start for the club and that having a new home for the next five years is so important now that everything behind the scenes has finally been
> THE MANAGER
completed. It’s important that we all embrace our new home as we’ve got facilities here that are second to none at this level as well as the level above and even arguably at the level above that – which is remember where Dartford themselves play! Playing wise we couldn’t ask for anything else, and so it’s up to us now to get organised as a team and a squad for the season ahead; we haven’t got a bog squad. But I must welcome the new signings that have joined us in Lewis, Tash, Ryan, Jake, Dane and welcoming back Simon, Joe and Butts. It’s an exciting time to be part of our football club as we look to wake the club up and push it on and progress up the Non-League pyramid.
We’re looking to grow of the pitch as well and we’re all pulling together to match those expectations behind the scenes and hopefully the Chairman will soon get to see some of the advantages of all his hard work and effort that he’s put in at the football club. As always, we’ll be in the bar after the game for a chat – thanks for your support whether you be new to the Mead or have followed us to our new home… Enjoy the game! Hello everyone and welcome to our first proper game in our new home here at Princes Park.
Hello everyone and welcome to our first proper game in our new home here at Princes Park. Following on from an impressive pre-season, we kicked off the season with what we knew would be a tricky and tough trip to play Cray in our first game in the new division. A massive congratulations to Tash for netting twice and the way he’s fitted in so well since he joined us from Tonbridge. I personally feel that the fact that the boys were

able to dig so very deep was really pleasing for all of us after a tough pre-season, and was made possible as a result of how we fit we are as a team. Now if we can take the same discipline and attitude into tonight – and with you showing the great support that you showed us last season – fingers crossed we could well get our first win of the new season, before we head into the FA Cup at the weekend. First things first though and Hythe tonight! Thanks for your support! Leon Smith First-Team Captain

THE Academy Hello, and here’s hoping for a successful season for Tom and the lads in our first year at Princes Park. Hello, and here’s hoping for a successful season for Tom and the lads in our first year at Princes Park. Our full-time apprentices are continuing to work hard up at Long Lane and under the guidance of our new coach Steve Quashie, are showing signs of continued improvement. Steve comes with a wealth of experience having worked at Queens Park Rangers and within the youth systems and education department of Premier League clubs. He is also an FA tutor for level 1 and 2s and so you can see the lads are in good hands. I have to also at this point praise Linda King the education tutor who’s doing a terrific job with the boys. Three of our lads have done the first team pre season training

and two of them, Lennie Laker and Ade Adeniran are currently gaining vital experience at Lordswood in the Southern Counties East Football League (SCEFL) under the watchful eye of their manaher Richard Styles.

GET WITH THE PROGRAMME
Award-winning editors from Enfield Town, Thamesmead Town and Corinthian-Casuals chat to Ian Townsend from the Bostik League about what makes a good programme. Ken Brazier, Jamie Barwick and Stuart Tree were last season’s Isthmian League Programme of the Year award winners; for Enfield Town, Thamesmead Town and Corinthian-Casuals, respectively. We caught up with each of them to ask about their triumph, but mainly in an attempt to understand just what they are doing right. How did you become a programme editor? Ken: I was programme editor with the predecessor to Enfield Town, Enfield FC, about thirty years ago. I was persuaded to get involved by somebody I knew who worked with the club, so I picked up the baton for a while. I then went back to the role for the new club in 2014. Jamie: I became the programme editor by chance really, I had just left university and was looking for ways into sports journalism and thought this could be a way. I applied to become the programme editor at North Ferriby United, was successful, and on the back of doing that for a season I speculatively emailed a couple of design companies. One replied saying they were looking for someone to take
PAGE 16
THAMESMEAD TOWN V HYTHE TOWN
on a smaller contract, that of Thamesmead Town, and would I be interested? So it started there, and I’m now going into my fourth season at Ferriby and third with Thamesmead. How much of the work do you have to do yourself, and how long does an issue take you to complete? Ken: I would say from an average programme I have to actually write around a quarter. We have a Ladies section which provides copy, and a Youth section, there is the traditional information about the opposition, and then I look for something else to add additional interest, but it’s important that I provide balance. We also have a local blogger/writer known as The Cold End who very kindly sends content, and of course I have information from the boardroom and the manager, etc- but it all has to be edited. I perhaps spend around ten hours on each issue as I want to get it right and I work hard to keep it relevant and up to date. Stuart: How much work? Pretty much all of it. Once you’ve produced your first issue of the season you have your template, which helps, and then you work
from there. We don’t have many contributors- we have a young lad who writes match reports, and he has real talent, but essentially the photographs, articles, interviews etc are all mine. Our fanbase is growing, but it’s not at the level of some teams in the League and although I ask for contributors they don’t often deliver so I end up doing it myself! I couldn’t really tell you how many hours I put in; more than I should because I’m difficult to please! Some clubs would like not to have to produce a programme, or perhaps to produce a download rather than a physical copy. Are you sympathetic to that ideahow do you see the future of the programme? Stuart: I’m totally sympathetic to that. I understand that it’s a rule that we have to produce a programme, but I believe- for example- that some of our Bostik clubs are selling ten or twenty copies. Creating programmes doesn’t make money, it costs money, and sometimes printing costs are considerable. We’re lucky that this season we’ve someone printing them for free, which is incredibly kind, but generally speaking it’s a drain on club resources, it takes a long time
> GET WITH THE PROGRAMME
to create, and if a club doesn’t have someone like me at Casuals or Ken at Enfield then what do they do? It can become a chore. People like our programme, they are complimentary about it, but the amount of money that we lose is considerable for a club of this size. But, of course, there are still a cadre of people who want a physical copy; it’s a difficult dilemma to solve. What are the key ingredients that make up a good programme? Ken: Colour, not too many adverts, and up to date information that hasn’t already been on the internet! When I’m doing a player interview, for example, I always try to probe for new information that hasn’t been published elsewhere. It can be difficult, because things like twitter make the world an open book. Tradition is all well and good, but we need to explore new dimensions and deliver something eye-catching. Jamie: A matchday programme is a way for a club to communicate to the fans, so I think columns from various people at the club are critical. An interview with a player is also good to have and just general pages such as club and league statistics which make the fan want to read it. Which programmes from other clubs do you admire? Ken: I like the programme from Dulwich Hamlet, but there are other good ones too. Lewes, Leiston, Tonbridge and Chesham,
for example, have all produced great programmes in recent seasons. Stuart: I tend to look at the award winners from programme monthly magazine, and then buy them so that I can find out what they are doing well. AFC Bournemouth120 odd pages of magnificenceStoke City, Sunderland, and nearer home Wealdstone. Also, Hastings United’s was fantastic. Finally, how do you improve on last years success? Ken: We need to sell more! It would also be nice to get more contributors; we’re all (generally) volunteers, we’ve got deadlines to meet, and sometimes you’d like to do more but there aren’t enough pairs of hands to make that possible. Jamie: I suppose we’re in a difficult situation really, we won the award last year, so the crux of the programme will remain the same. We’ll obviously redesign the programme, but the basis of the content will remain consistent. We’ll try and get some more in-depth player interviews if we can and hopefully go for another award this year! Stuart: Goodness knows! It was
lovely to win the award, and to finish eighth overall in the Soccer Club Swap Shop National Awards out of six hundred and seventy-eight entries was overwhelming. It’ll be tough to improve. I need to keep doing what I’m doing, listen to people about what they’d like to see in the programme, and take on board suggestions. But I can’t turn it into a full time job, I already have one of those! There are some magnificent examples of the programme editors’ art at some of our Bostik League clubs. Certainly the examples at Donkey Lane, Princes Park and King George’s Field are as good as you might expect, but there are many more worthy of your time. So, help out your club. Buy a copy, and, if you like it, tell your friends. If you don’t, tell the club, and perhaps offer your services to improve it.

by Colin Head (Kent Sport News) Cray and the Mead shared the points in this local derby league opener, putting on an entertaining match, which both sides could have won, but the final result was probably fair. The game started at a high tempo and was open with play going from end to end, the Mead created the better early chances though the on-loan Tashi-Jay Kwaiye firing over and then soon after going closer as he hit a post, before Alex Teniola hit the side netting from the rebound. Mead pressed The Wands back playing down the Hayes Lane slope and made it hard for the home side to play out from the back, but it was Cray who went ahead with their first real chance when Luke Medley set up Karl Dent who powerfully drove home to make it 1-0 from ten yards. The visitors though were level only five minutes later, though, when Scott Kinch played in Tash brilliantly who coolly slotted the ball under the advancing Nick Blue to equalise. Skipper Leon Smith went close

of the game.
The second half started with Tash hitting a curling effort narrowly wide, but Cray once again edged in front with their first chance. Ben Mundele combined with Brandon Scott who crossed for Michael Freiter to fire home from close range.
Sub Bradley Stevenson shot wide and Scott also brought Lewis into action with another great save as the half went on.
The Mead though rallied again, as Alex was denied a goal against his old side when Lea Dawson blocked his goal bound shot and Ryan Flack forced a save from Blue, before the home side had arguably their best spell
Dent had an effort well saved by Lewis Carey and he was also on hand to brilliantly deny Dawson’s header from a corner.
With both sides making changes it was the Mead who finished the game on top – Alex had a bicycle kick well saved by Blue, before the pressing paid off in injury time when a great long throw from Leon was flicked on brilliantly by Tom O’Connor to Tash who headed home the equalizer and gained the Mead a deserved point on an entertaining opening day.

Hythe town Hythe Town kicked off the new Bostik South league with defeat, but will have designs on bouncing back at the first time of asking tonight. The Cannons took on Walton Casuals, but succumbed to a 2-1 defeat. Casuals got a deserved lead on 18 minutes as Josh Kelly curled a shot from the edge of the area into the top corner of the net. For the Mead, they will hope to build on their 2-2 draw with Cray Wanderers. A brace on his debut from Tashi-Jay Kwaiye ensured the Mead didn’t go away empty handed and will carry that momentum into tonight’s game.

HYTHE TOWN
CLUB HISTORY Hythe Town Football Club was formed in August 1910 although football in Hythe can be traced back into the previous century. The club joined the Folkestone and District Leagues and after the First World War had some success, four championships and only once outside the top three in fourteen seasons. The 50s and 60s saw little league success but that changed in the early 70s with three successive league titles and a Kent Junior Cup win. The club were runners-up in the Kent League on three occasions but it was not until property developer Tony Walton took over Hythe Town in February 1988 that things really started to happen. That summer saw the ground developed to Southern League standard with seats and a social club, with viewing balconies, above new dressing rooms. Town won the 1988-9 Kent League title by 14 points and set a league record of 133 goals. The club gained promotion to the Southern League. The next season saw another promotion as the main aim, but the club’s great run to the FA Vase semi-finals handicapped their league ambitions, with four games a week at times, and a sixth place finish. The following season was very similar, topping the table in November but runs in four cups again caused fixture congestion and a final placing of eighth.
In 1991/2 Hythe again topped the table in the early months, but the money was beginning to run out and liquidation followed. Supporters rallied round and entered a scratch side, as Hythe United, into the following season’s Kent County League and negotiated continued use of Reachfields Stadium. After three seasons the club regained senior status and in 1995 were elected back into the Kent League but the club would struggle for a number of seasons in the wrong half of the table. In 2001 Hythe dropped the “United” suffix, reverting to “Town” and in November 2002 appointed Paul Fisk as Manager. This proved a turning point and Hythe became a top six club. There was one exception, in 2005/6, when again the Vase was a distraction, winning five ties before going out to Winchester City in the fourth round, in front of 441 spectators at Reachfields. In season 2007/8 Hythe forced themselves to the top of the table in March and were considered to be favourites for the title. Disappointment was acute therefore when form was lost in the final weeks and the side not only slipped to fourth place. The club achieved runners-up spot the following season and then Scott Porter, who had been Paul Fisk’s assistant, took over as manager for the 2009/10 season. There were many good results but too many dropped points saw Hythe finish in third position. The 2010/11 season was possibly the most successful in
the history of the club, with Scott Porter leading the side to the Kent League Championship for the first time in over twenty years, and with it promotion to the Ryman League. During the 2011/2 season the club maintained their progress and finished in eighth place in Ryman Division One South. The following season ended with a 17-match unbeaten run and a fourth place finish. This brought about the club’s first playoff appearance, unfortunately losing at Faversham in the semifinal. After another eighth place finish Scott Porter and Clive Cook left the club at the end of 2013/4 and Tim Dixon was appointed as manager in May 2014. It was a disappointing season that saw the club finish in 16th position and after a poor start to 2015-6 the club decided to part company with Dixon in September. Clive Cook returned to take over, this time as manager and led a remarkable turnaround from 22nd place to fourth as the club qualified for the Ryman South play-offs for a second time. Defeat followed at Worthing in the semi-final. The hopes of a promotion in 2016-2017 were dashed as Hythe finished in seventh place. The season was notable for the departure of Alfie May who moved to Doncaster Rovers in January 2017. The club now looks forward to 2017-2018 with optimism of challenging for promotion.

Mum and (brother) Joe along with the rest of the family are obviously pleased for us and equally looking forward to meeting him!” During his career Paul has scored goals, but we wanted to know that whilst goal scoring must be so pleasing, what’s it like when things don’t go to plan? “I’ve been reasonably particular about where and for who I play for and with,” Paul admitted: “so it’s very pleasing that the majority of those decisions have been good ones, but when things don’t quite work out how you would like or when times are tough, I strive to remind all the forgetful people that I have been doing this for a long time, only one year in the last 18 have I not broken 20 competitive goals, so take them stats and do with them as you please!” With that in mind, remembering that last August, Paul wrote a page in the history books of the FA Cup by scoring the first goal ever scored in the competition in the Channel Islands, just how tough was it to miss the end of last season we asked. “It was definately tough as I was on for beating last year’s 24 goal hauls, so that was frustrating for me, but this year there’s an opportunity to do that once more so that will be my first target.” Shrugging Paul went on, “I’m not
WWW.TTFCOFFICIAL.ORG
going to lie I wasn’t sure if I had the same determination at 33 to work hard and do the extra bits needed to recover and come back strong enough to maintain my own personal standards. “But getting back around the boys gives you a lift and Rhy have been instrumental in pushing me when I didn’t fancy it and making sure I work myself back into contention. “Although I’m not completely 100% fit I’m sure with a bit more work with the girls and some match time I’ll be fully up and running in no time.” We then spoke about the end of last season and the mood in the dressing room with everything that went on and off the pitch: “You know it was a strange one because after such a good run through the Christmas period we allowed our season to kind of slip away from us which was extremely frustrating for the most part,” Vinesy continued: “but it gives hindsight and so long as that’s a lesson learnt we can only be stronger because of it. “I think the change to the new ground will hopefully bring the best out of the boys, turning up to a new stadium with the facilities it has will make our opposition raise their game so we will simply have no choice and I for one am looking forward to seeing how the boys all react to that!” Wherever Paul plays, he can always seem to rely on the support of one person – his mum Eileen. With a
grin on his face, he said: “Mums has supported both mine and Joe’s footballing ventures since about 1992! “Always there to watch; cheer and commiserate. She’s never pushed an opinion or been overly analytical, but she doesn’t mind letting the ref or the opposing fans knowing about themselves from time to time!” We finished with the same five questions that we will ask everyone… What was you first kit bought for you? It was the spurs yellow away kit about 93!! What was the first cd/album that you bought? Was most likely to be some sort of Motown classics album! What was the first game you would have been watched? Watching my uncle Francis play when he was at Ks then pro Spurs vs Aston Villa in the 90s What was the first car you bought? I’ve only been driving since December last year and I treated myself to a Citroen C4 not that it lasted very long! And finally, what was the first holiday that you can remember? It would have been going over to play football in France when I was about ten the care free days!!

CRAIG GIBSON THE coach
Welcome to our first home game of a new season - Jamie and Greenie have finally let me write some words for the programme, so here goes! To the hordes of Thamesmead fans that have to travelled to Dartford tonight - thank you to the familiar faces!
here at Dartford and I am sure the players, officials and, most importantly, the supporters will enjoy the experience.
Lets be honest - we’re not the first club to ground share, bigger clubs than us have had to; Brighton & Hove Albion (at Gillingham for goodness sake!); Charlton Athletic (half way round South and East London) are two examples where clubs had to ground hop for a few years. I’m sure that we will embrace the wonderful facilities
So pre-season is over for another year, though for me, it was a late start as I was away on holiday, but OB & the gaffer kept me up to date with the goings on and worked the boys hard as you would expect.
PAGE 28
THAMESMEAD TOWN V HYTHE TOWN
We have welcomed back a large number of last season’s squad,
outsiders may be surprised due to our final position at the end of last season, however it was the belief of the gaffer & the backroom team that for a variety of reasons we under performed. Those players know this is their chance to repay the gaffer for the faith he has shown in them. Some old favourites have departed for pastures new, of course we wish them all well other than when they play against

us when we sincerely hope they all have absolute shockers - LOL!
continue to learn and Improve working alongside Lewis.
New signings have arrived and settled in well, goalkeeper Lewis Carey, the old fella Simon Glover, Ryan Flack, Dane Luchford, & Jake Mcintyre, Tashi-jay Kwayie is on loan from Tonbridge Angels.
Our Physio’s Carly & Rhyanna have been working hard getting Vinesy & Kinchy back to fitness ready for the start of the new campaign & due to their old age they will no doubt have to be managed well throughout the long season.
From a personal point of view I am delighted to be working with Lewis & Max Ovenden our goalkeepers, it says here that they are “both really good keepers and nice guys!” Seriously, Lewis has joined us from Eastbourne Borough in National League South (it’ll always be Conference South to me) and although only 23, has a vast amount of experience at the higher level. The manager has done extremely well to get him on board. Max, meanwhile, impressed Tom & OB towards the end of last season and we were delighted he agreed to stay with the club – he will
WWW.TTFCOFFICIAL.ORG
I am so happy to get this dig in to Kinchy who christened me “Grandad” in the dressing room last year - I can’t imagine why! Also a warm welcome to Terry Sedge who has joined us in the roll of kitman. He’s a good knowledge of football at this level and will no doubt add an extra voice with his experience when needed. Saturday we travelled to Bromley for our first game of the season in the Bostik South and came away with a hard earned point in a 2-2 draw, both goals coming from Tash.
For me, the pleasing thing was how we kept going to the very which many will agree was something that was missing for large chunks of last season. We kept our discipline rather than feeling sorry for ourselves when going behind on two occasions and in the end got our just rewards. We have to be ready for the challenge that Hythe will pose tonight and get our home form up and running with a win which would set us up nicely for next Saturday when we enter this seasons FA Cup and travel to East Preston on the South coast – at least its closer than Guernsey, but then we’ve got to go there after Christmas for a League game this year haven’t we? Enjoy the game and please bring a friend next time. Craig Gibson First-team coach

LIAM KING - 2 GOALS
> FAN PREVIEW
BY STEVE PANTHER
FAN PREVIEW 1. What was your favourite moment of last season? Quite a few actually! The final whistle at Thurrock on Tuesday August 16th after our win and dreaming of the play-offs ( this elation lasted until Saturday the 27th with a 2-0 defeat at Brentwood). Our best ever FA cup run which included some much welcome exposure following our freak goal at Guernsey, jumping around like a teenager after Tom O’Connor’s lovely extra-time goal against Hanwell in our secondround qualifying replay, and fantastic away wins at VCD, Aveley, play-off chasing Phoenix and the 5-1 drubbing of Tilbury. 2. And what was the worst moment? The abandoned pre-season friendly with Clacton which was much publicised at the time. Losing some good players from a squad which I felt would be in with a real chance of a promotion push, this included a terrible injury to our goalkeeper Andy Walker which took a while to recover from. Going out of the FA cup at Merstham. Losing 3-0 at home to Hornchurch when I felt we were doomed to relegation. And obviously leaving Bayliss Avenue in Thamesmead to ground share with Dartford this season for the next 5 years. 3. How will you do this season? If I am honest, I don’t have high hopes of a play-off push, but you
never know at this level. Things can change week upon week if we can keep our best players and add a few we can dream. We have lost our Player Of The Season Jay Porter, who has been magnificent for the Mead and really deserves a chance to play at a higher level. I like what I’ve seen of our new left back, Jake Macintyre, but he has big boots to fill. Bode Anidugbe continues to impress and I hope he can have another good season and help lift the weight with some goals; we really need a 25 goal striker. Tom O’Connor is a player I have all the time in the world for. He has been unlucky with injuries, but he has everything and if he has a big season who knows? Play-offs here we come, ha ha! 4. Which matches are you most looking forward to- and why? Guernsey -flying to a match! Hastings away for pre-match crazy golf and fish and chips. Phoenix and VCD are always big games as our local rivals. Sittingbourne- if we win might make a night of it at the dog track ! Faversham Town- do they still have the Shepherd Neame brewery tour there? (yes, but you have to bookIan). Ramsgate- nice beach there, and fish and chips. In fact, now we are in the South division after moving over from the North no driving through the the Dartford tunnel means every match has a positive.
5. What is your favourite away ground? Thurrock and Witham Town. 6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why? I suppose VCD, due to the fact they have our previous long-serving manager and Honorary Vice President- and the close proximity. Phoenix is also a big one we would hate to lose. 7. What advice would you give to an away supporter visiting you for the first time? As we are in a new home it is going to be learning curve for everyone, so if they come across anything please share. 8. Who is your favourite player (for your club) of all time- and why? Well I could mention some obscure player from the eighties when we had no ground! When I was growing up we had some unbelievable players- how none of them ever made it I don’t know. But I decided to ask someone much better informed than me, Peter Tierney- a servant of the club for 45 years and an honorary vice president- and he tells me it would be Dean Bowey. 9. Finally, predict who will fill the top five positions at the end of the forthcoming season: Corinthian Casuals, Cray Wanderers, Greenwich Borough, Lewes, Phoenix Sports.
