MANAGER’S COLUMN
STEVE
HOUSHAM
May I welcome the officials, players and supporters of Guiseley to our home on this Saturday afternoon, and hope after an enjoyable game everyone has a safe journey home. First of all it was great to see big turnout for our first home game in the National Conference! It was a great occasion and as the game grew so did the players and came out with a creditable battling point. Our second game of the season sent us to a big club in the division Lincoln City and yet again a great turnout by the fans. In these sorts of games against the bigger clubs you try stay in the game as long as you can to upset the home fans but it all blew up in the first 20 minutes which was very disappointing. Credit to the players they kept on trying to play but on the night we was well short and learnt a harsh lesson. We then travelled to Dover I asked for a reaction following the Lincoln defeat. Despite the result the lads gave their all and I was proud of them and I also felt sorry for them as they worked their socks off. But two lapses of concentration cost us and that’s the difference in leagues if you switch off for a moment it will bite you and it did. Tonight we face Guiseley who enter their second season in the National Conference, we expect another

tough test who on their day play some good football. There is still scope for myself and Darryn Stamp to add to the squad but at this moment we have every faith in the player we have on board. Finally I can’t say how proud I am of you, the fans! A fantastic turnout and atmosphere on the opening day and then to travel to Lincoln on a Tuesday night was brilliant. Unfortunately we wasn’t and we hope to pay you back with hopefully wins but most of all pride when we play.
Thanks again, keep believing and enjoy the best you can! Steve Housham First-Team Manager

GUISELEY AFC
North Ferriby United entertain Guiseley AFC in their second home match of the season... The Villagers will be looking to bounce back after successive defeats in the league and entertain Guiseley this evening. A heavy 6-1 away loss to Lincoln City showed Ferriby the quality this division possesses and they again tasted defeat at the weekend losing 2-0 to Dover Athletic. Their opponents Guiseley also haven’t enjoyed the best of starts this campaign but will feel hard done by given the manner of their opening three defeats. The Lions began the season against Eastleigh and found themselves 2-0 down after firsthalf goals from Andy Drury and Joe Partington. New Guiseley signing Michael Rankine reduced the deficit but the club couldn’t find an all important second. 6
NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme
Next up was a home match against a much-fancied Wrexham side. Rankine notched his second of the season to give Guiseley the lead but the game was turned on its head when John Rooney and Gerry McDonough pegged Wrexham into the lead.

Jake Lawlor looked to have given his side a share of the spoils but in a cruel twist of fate the side was undone by a wonder strike from Paul Rutherford with just seventeen seconds left on the clock. Dagenham & Redbridge brought about another defeat and Guiseley will be keen to get their first points of the season on the board starting with this fixture against North Ferriby.

THE PLAYERS
Who are the key men from Guiseley AFC to keep your eye on this afternoon? We introduce them to you here.
THE TEAM GOALKEEPERS Steve Dickinson Daniel Atkinson
DEFENDERS Rob Atkinson Danny East Danny Lowe Ashley Palmer
STEVE DICKINSON
DANNY EAST
Returned for his third spell at Guiseley in October 2013, vastly experienced with Guiseley, Southport, Frickley Athletic and Bradford Park Avenue. After the Lions’ promotion, Steve signed a new contract that will see him act as goalkeeping coach with the club as well as backup goalkeeper.
Former Grimsby Town defender Danny is equally adept at right-back and midfield. He joined the Lions as Mark Bower looked to strengthen his first team squad ahead of the 2016-17 National League campaign. Right-back East, 24, played in 25 games for Grimsby Town in 201516, but was allowed to leave the Mariners in May.
Will Wells Jake Lawlor Adam Lockwood
MIDFIELDERS Danny Boshell Will Hatfield Luke Porritt Javan Vidal
DANNY LOWE
ROB ATKINSON
Nicky Clee
Equally adept at left back and centre back, Lowe signed for the Lions ahead of the 2014-15 season from FC Halifax Town, where he had been the club’s captain and previously won their player-of-the-year award. Danny was a regular throughout his debut season at Nethermoor as the Lions gained promotion to the Vanarama National League.
Former Accrington Stanley centre back Atkinson was the second defensive signing, after the returning Adam Lockwood made by Mark Bower ahead of the 2015-16 season. Rob tasted promotion from the National League to the Football League with Fleetwood Town, having previously played for Grimsby.

THE RISING STAR
ASHLEY PALMER JAVAN VIDAL
WILL HATFIELD
Javan Vidal, a former England Under19’s and 20’s international, joins from Wrexham, with spells at Manchester City, Derby County, Aberdeen and Greek side Panetolikos also on his CV.
A high-energy midfielder, Hatfield joined the club in June 2015 following a spell in the Vanarama National League with FC Halifax Town. He previously made nearly 100 first team appearances for Accrington Stanley, having started his career as a trainee at Leeds United.
Ashley was a commanding central defender for North Ferriby United during their successful National League North promotion season, winning all three of the Villagers’ player of the season awards. Now looking to ply his trade at National League level, Palmer has opted to continue his development under Mark Bower, himself a former centreback.
THE GAFFER
ADAM BOYES
OLI JOHNSON
Mark Bower moved quickly to secure his signature in the close season, signing the striker on for the 2014-15 season. Arguably his most crucial strike came in the Promotion Final as he calmly slotted open the Lions’ first of three as Bower’s men roared back to claim promotion with a 3-2 victory.
Former Stockport, Norwich and Oxford United striker Johnson joined the Lions in early 2014 after earning Mark Bower’s attention with his performances in training. Having struggled for match fitness early in his career at Nethermoor, OJ hit the ground running in 2014-15 providing glimpses of quality either from the start or during cameo appearances from the bench.
MARK BOWER
Very experienced former Bradford City captain, where he made over 250 league appearances. He was a summer 2011 signing from Halifax Town and appointed as first-team manager in September 2013 following a brief spell in temporary charge. NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme

GUEST COLUMN
View From The
STANDS
North Ferriby United fan Jack Hickman gives us his take on the opening three games... We have completed our first three games in the National League, taking one point at home to Braintree but unfortunately being defeated away at Lincoln City and Dover Athletic. A point is probably more then what some of the fans were expecting. But surely we can’t go round settling for a draw every weekend?
Our many new players tried to make a name for themselves and one really stood out for me which was Connor Oliver. He was able to make long passes look effortless and really controlled our midfield when we had possession. Something which we will need when we play the likes of York and Tranmere.
The first game of the season had an aura about it. A different feel to any other home league game which we have ever played. Knowing we were in the highest league we have
Our first away game took us just across the River Humber to Lincoln City. Who we beat 4-0 in our FA Trophy campaign in 2014. We arrived at Sincil Bank with hopes of

ever been it made it feel special. My personal highlight has to be finally getting to see a new kit after three years of the same one! The game wasn’t the best, both teams not able to make any headway in the game, with missed chances for both sides. This game did show however that we can keep up with play in this division, even though people hugely underestimate us.

NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme
something similar, but we were very very wrong. 2-0 down after five minutes and then down to ten men ten minutes later. We got sent a cruel message by the Imps about the task we have got as they dominated the game throughout. Lincoln made it 4-0 before we got our first goal of the season which came from a reliable source, Curtis Bateson. Bateson made
a mazy run cutting in from the left before shooting into the far corner of the goal. The Ferriby fans went into celebrations, but knew the game was long gone. It finished 6-1 in the end, a game to forget, and left us hoping the manager could turn it around for the game on Saturday. Last Saturday all of ten fans made the trip to the Crabble Athletic Ground to face Dover. Away support is hard to come by for us, so to see some of us making the effort to get to Dover is tremendous. Dover were a team who had not won a game in their first two and the Ferriby fans who made the trip were encouraged with the chances we were creating in the game after hardly getting a look in against Lincoln. But Ferriby weren’t able to change these chances into goals and Dover came out on top with a 2-0 win. This game was a chance to add to the point we got against Braintree, but it wasn’t to be and all focus is turned towards the game against Guiseley. This game is huge for us, even though it is only our fourth of the season. Guiseley are yet to get off the mark this season. So let’s keep it that way and give the crowd something to cheer about. Enjoy the game. Jack
