PAUL BOWDEN-BROWN THE CHARIMAN
May I welcome the officials, players and supporters of Horsham FC to Princes Park our new home for the next 5 years, and after an enjoyable game and some refreshments a safe journey home. When we played Horsham while I was at Maidstone United, we always had a tough game I even remember playing against our current manager and I am sure this has not changed so we can look forward to a challenging game. I would like to give also a warm welcome to old and new supporters to the match this Saturday afternoon, hopefully we will have many of our landlords supporters joining us this afternoon. I hope you are taking advantage of my offer to all the Dartford’s supporters that do not travel away with their team, for a concessionary price of £5 half price of the normal gate price you can become a Mead Fan and if you are over 65 you will only

pay £2-50 what can I say and you will also be given a Mead Card. I am sure you will enjoy the quality of football seen at our matches and I know that there will always be a warm welcome given to you as you visit us playing at your club’s home. We have also as a favour to John agreed to install SKY in the Champions Bar, so you can also arrive early watch a match that may be covered and have some refreshments and a chat with your friends. Well we have now played three games at Princes Park, so I believe the squad is getting used to playing at their new home. I have heard nothing, but praise for the decision to
move here, and I am writing these notes before we play Cray in the Kent Senior Cup Wednesday evening, so I do not know how it went, but I am sure Tommy gave all those players that have not had 90 minutes a game especially coming back from injury. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sue, Mike and John for getting our boardroom operational, as many will know I am very keen to ensure we keep a very high standard within the boardroom and under Sue’s stewardship this will long continue. I would also like to thank my son Richard for agreeing to sponsor the boardroom and supplying Sky throughout the lower areas of the ground.
> THE CHAIRMAN
I think the operational side of the club on match days is working well, but if any supporters believe we could do things better please let the club know. Remember match days are yours, we need your support to ensure the club continues to mirror off the pitch the great work being done on the pitch. Finally, I would like to thank

known Thamesmead this has been the case we have tried many initiatives to increase this band of supporters and I hope the Mead Card initiative will go some way to achieve this goal.

THE MANAGER <
TOMMY WARRILOW THE manager
Welcome to the officials, players and supporters of Horsham as for the second time this week, I welcome one of my former clubs to Princes Park. I had some really good times at the club – not only finishing my paying career there at 37, but also going into management. After a brief spell at Leatherhead, I had four good years at Horsham as number two to John Maggs and we had some really successful times which helped me mould into a managerial career that helped me go to Tonbridge. I’m glad to see that they’ve got their ground back to finally be able to build their new ground and hopefully get back to some really good times again. Last Saturday, I never imagined just how much attention the result would get but what a fantastic result.

THAMESMEAD TOWN V HORSHAM
Against any team that goes on the pitch, you face potential banana skins, but I was delighted at the way we went out on the front foot and had a perfectly good goal ruled out in the opening five minutes. We didn’t let it affect us and we went on to register what we found out afterwards was a club record score in the FA Cup and got an award for team of the round. So, we can really ask for more than that as we finished off the first week of the season nearly perfectly after playing two of the favourites for the league in Cray and Hythe and being unbeaten as well as FA Cup progress. It’s nice that some of the boys who have been injured are getting more time in their legs which bodes well for
future games as we need everyone fit and available with the relatively small squad that we’re running with this year. Horsham have made a good start too and again today we’ll treat out opponents with the utmost respect and try to make sure that we get our game plan right and continue to extend the good start that we’ve already had ahead of a busy weekend. Two games in three days and pictures can change just that quickly! Even though we’ve had a good start I’m never one to jump up and down and get too excited as its going to be a long season and everyone in football knows that you have good bits and bad bits. Our job now is to sustain things and keep banging

that drum. There’s no reason why we can’t keep doing the good things – we’re trying to install into the players that good things become habit forming and to build on those good habits. That’s something we’ll be emphasising before every single game we go into. Enjoy the game and we’ll see you in Champions Bar after the game. See you at VCD on Monday, Tommy Tommy Warrilow First-Team Manager

LEON SMITH THE CAPTAIN
Hello everyone and welcome to Princes Park, where we take on Horsham in the Bostik League South Good afternoon everyone,
worked his magic.
I can’t believe that its Bank Holiday weekend and this is our first Saturday at home!
It was a hard earned three points but we are now really coming together as a team and we’re continuing to really work hard!
It’s been a busy few days with two great wins for the team last week. The first came on Wednesday against Hythe when Vinesy made a scoring comeback from injury and scored our winner in the last minutes. The boys worked hard throughout the game and were kept in the race thanks to great saves from Lewis and we were ahead at half time thanks to Laurent. They managed to level, but we kept going and pressurising right up to the 90-minute mark when Vinesy

Last Saturday in the FA Cup was amazing – I’m told that we made history with the scoreline. A great game for Alex and Vinesy with two cracking backup goals from Jake and Tom – all that and a clean sheet too for us at the back. You can’t imagine the feeling in the camp on the way home and with a bit of luck we can carry that into today. Thanks as ever for your support! Leon Smith First-Team Captain

THE Academy Hello, and here’s hoping for a successful season for Tom and the lads in our first year at Princes Park. Good luck to Tom and the lads today and here’s hoping for another well-deserved win. A lot of our lads are currently on holiday, so training has been held back a little due to the numbers training, but the lads who are in, are continuing to work hard on their own fitness and development. Steve Quashie has been coaching the lads and has seen all players progressing within their own framework and is looking forward to bringing the lads on further as the start of the season is soon upon us. Below is a quick summary of what we are working to. The players are managed by a team of staff that comprises of a Head Coach, Teacher and Manager. The players follow a performance syllabus which

Good afternoon all and welcome to Princes Park for another home game of the 2017/2018 season. Most of you will be aware of Rhyannas presence in the dugout for most of last season and I’m pleased to confirm she’s agreed to stay with us again this season as my assistant.
starting line up.
Her help for me is invaluable and I for one am delighted to have her on board again.
There were a number of players with little niggles during pre-season which is to be expected after the break and with a few carrying a little extra weight we’ve worked them hard in gruelling one to one sessions to shift the pounds and get fit.
We’ll mix things up this year with both of us providing updates on injuries and any squad news. So it’s been a busy pre-season for Rhyanna and myself, we’ve had our work cut out getting Vinesy back fit after his knee injury in the back end of last season. It was a tough two months, but we’re pleased to have him back in the squad and competing for a place in the WWW.TTFCOFFICIAL.ORG
He’s worked hard not only in rehab sessions with us, but also putting in the work himself to get into shape and ready.
We’ve come into this season with a different mindset, for us it’s all about making sure the boys are taking care of themselves away from the squad.
eat correct, to self manage injuries and niggles and we’ll be regularly weighing the boys ensuring they’re maintaining a healthy weight especially when injured. We want to help them help us and in turn we hope to see a reduction of injuries this season. We saw Bode come off injured in our final pre-season game against Folkestone, luckily is wasn’t anything too serious and we’re hopeful he’ll be back within the next week. That’s all from us and hopefully these notes from us will be kept short and sweet from now on! Good luck today lads!
We want to educate the boys to be preparing right before games etc making sure they

Saturday 19th August The Lashmar Attendance: 89 FA Cup Preliminary Round
8 THAMESMEAD TOWN Teniola (21, 44 pen, 54, 61), McIntyre (28), O’Connor (35), Vines (72, 90 pen)
Thamesmead Town forward Alex Teniola netted four times to end East Preston Football Club’s run in this year’s FA Cup at The Lashmar this afternoon. As well as Teniola’s quadruple, substitute Paul Vines bagged a brace, while both Jake McIntyre and Thomas O’Connor also struck to help division-higher Bostik League South Thamesmead to an emphatic 8-0 preliminary round triumph. EP scored a win over then two-divisions above Ryman League South Tooting & Mitcham United at the same stage last season, so there were hopes Bob Paine’s side could once again pull off a cup shock. However Thamesmead took to their task well, netting four times in the first 45 minutes, then the same amount in the second, to ease into the first qualifying round. East Preston boss Paine felt it was a steep learning curve for his team and said: “I think it was men against boys at times today. We’ve got a young side here and Thamesmead really taught us a lesson.
“We were never going to win the FA Cup but I can’t remember if I’ve ever been beaten 8-0. Both myself and the players are really hurting after this defeat, it’s about how we react now.” Teniola hooked home a free-kick inside three minutes, only for his effort to be ruled out for an earlier foul. Thamesmead could count themselves a little fortunate to have 11 players left on the field seven minutes later. A quick break saw Hayden Hunter attempt to go through on goal, before he was felled by Harley Brand, showing him a yellow card. Having coped quite well in the early exchanges, East Preston went a goal behind on 21 minutes. Brand’s cross picked out Teniola, whose flicked header found the bottom corner. Things got better for Thamesmead as they doubled their advantage seven minutes later. A long, ranging pass picked out full-back McIntyre, he beat his man and unleashed a thunderous leftfoot drive, which somehow went into the roof of the net
from an incredibly tight angle. A quick counter was finished when Laurent Mendy played O’Connor in behind and he rounded Cook then fired home - despite Nathan DaCosta’s effort to clear on the line - as they went three in front ten minutes prior to the interval. Teniola rounded off the first half scoring with a spotkick after 44 minutes. Dane Luchford saw a strike saved by Cook, only to be taken out by DaCosta after shooting with a penalty awarded. Luchford delivered a perfect ball for Teniola to power a header past Cook as he completed his hat-trick nine minutes after the restart. Teniola was not finished there, though, with a fourth coming for him ten minutes later. O’Connor drove forward from midfield, then played the frontman in and he sidefooted past the onrushing Cook. Substitute Paul Vines added a seventh 18 minutes from the end, before he rounded off the scoring with a spotkick a minute from time.

horsham After waiting anxiously for the beginning of the 2017/18 season to begin, Horsham fans were left with a feeling of anti-climax as Dom Di Paola’s side fell to an opening day defeat away at Molesey in what was a poor display. That Horsham failed to win this game shouldn’t have come as a total surprise to Horsham supporters who made the trip to Surrey – The Hornets have not won an opening day league fixture since August 2013.

Horsham then got their season up and running with a win against Bostik League newbies Shoreham as life at Culver Road begin with three point with a comfortable 3-0 win. A place in the next round of the Emirates FA Cup was assured for Horsham, as Dom Di Paola’s men brushed aside Chertsey Town. The Hornets come into this on the back of back-to-back win, but will face a Mead side high on confidence after their 8-0 win over East Preston in the FA Cup last weekend.

CLUB HISTORY The earliest records of Horsham Football Club dates back to 1871 but it wasn’t until 1881 that the club was firmly established. A founder member of the Sussex County Football Association, the club also helped found the West Sussex Senior League in 1896, winning three successive titles between 1900 and 1902. Horsham were overlooked when the Sussex County League was created in 1920 and it wasn’t until their fourth West Sussex Senior League triumph in 1925/26 that they were invited to join. The 1930s was a golden era for the club and the County League was won six times. The club successfully applied to become members of the Metropolitan League that included the ’A’ sides of top Football League clubs, the reserve sides of ‘professional’ non-league clubs and a few amateur teams and Horsham won the championship at the first attempt. However, as the league became stronger so the amateur clubs struggled to make any impact at all and, after finishing the 1956/57 season at the foot of the table, Horsham quit the league in favour of the Corinthian League where they began a period of progress. Following a mass exodus of players, Horsham were forced to rebuild with a young, local team that would peak at fourth place in 1964/65 only to become the first Horsham side ever to be relegated the following season. Under coach Pat Tobin, the team was rebuilt once more and this reaped dividends in 1966/67 when the club once again reached the First Round Proper of the FA Cup. Despite this achievement this was a frustrating period of near misses for the club who finished third, third and fifth. By now nicknamed the Hornets, following a supporters’ competition, the club appointed Roy Osborne as
their new manager and the change brought immediate success with the championship of Division Two achieved in 1969/70, the Division One title in 1972/73, and the Sussex Senior Cup in 1972. Instead of taking their place in the Athenian League Premier Division, Horsham became members of the Isthmian League when that competition expanded to two divisions in 1973/74, finishing eighth in its first season. Now under the guidance of Tony Elkins-Green, 1976-77 saw the Hornets finish in a best ever sixth place, but financial problems threatened the club’s very survival and only the dedicated work of chairman Frank King saw the club saved from bankruptcy and dissolution although it couldn’t prevent a young amateur team from finishing bottom of Division One in 1979/80 and the club was relegated to the new Division Two. Horsham endured some dark times under numerous managers in the 1980s, finishing bottom of the league in 1983/84 and 1989/90, when only a successful relegation play-off against Letchworth Garden City maintained the club’s status. Progress was made under the management of Peter Evans from 1990, during which time the club reached the final qualifying round of the FA Cup, though under his replacement, John Yems, Horsham once again propped up the entire league in 1993/4 leading to the appointment of former captain Mark Dunk as manager. He led his side to the Division Three championship in 1995/96, narrowly missing out on a second successive promotion before departing in 1997. Three years of lower mid-table obscurity followed before former Crawley Town boss John Maggs took over as manager in January 2000, taking a struggling side out of the relegation zone to Division Two
runners-up in three seasons and a promotion play-off final appearance in 2004/05. Promotion to the Premier Division was achieved the following season with another runners-up finish and the club went on to establish itself as a consistent performer, even challenging for a place in Conference South in 2007/8 before ending up eleventh. The 2008/09 ending in a thirteenth place finish. Season 2009/10 saw a return to Horsham, entering into a groundshare with their old neighbours Horsham YMCA, but fortunes were on the wane and an acute overhaul of the finances in 2011 resulted in the departure of Maggs after eleven years. A turbulent 2011/12 found the club under three different managers, with Simon Colbran unable to prevent the side from returning to Division One South. The club entered a new chapter in November 2013 when long-serving player Gary Charman was appointed as first team manager. Charman steered the club to sixteenth place but a poor run of results the following season led to Charman’s departure and he was replaced by former players Anthony Storey and Cliff Cant, who assumed a joint-managerial role until they, too, were released with relegation a virtual certainty. Former East Preston boss Dom Di Paola was appointed in their place and he led the Hornets to win the Southern Combination Football League championship in his first season, enabling the club to regain their place in the Ryman League where they finished a satisfactory sixteenth place. In March 2017 the club was granted approval to move ahead with plans to build a new ground at the Hop Oast area of Horsham, entering into an agreement to play at the Lancing headquarters of the Sussex FA in the interim.

> PLAYER INTERVIEW
We started by asking about last Saturday’s game which was an amazing experience for the whole club; Alex told us: “Saturday was a great experience, being involved in an 8-0 win, that was my first! “Even better to do it in the FA Cup. Also, I was very happy to make history with the club as well. Scoring four with half an hour to go was an amazing feeling. “For me the most important thing was it helping me boost my confidence, as a striker, you always need to get going and hopefully keep a momentum, so to open my account for the season with four was brilliant. I’m buzzing for all the boys hopefully we carry on with great performances till the end of the season.” It was a bizarre afternoon, but we asked Alex if he could put it into words from a playing perspective he said: “I don’t think I can,” he admitted. “No matter what level you play at, scoring just ONE goal is the most amazing feeling, that can’t be explained until you’re actually in the position. “To go off for Vinesy – a top striker – I don’t expect any less from him, he knows how to get the job done! We worked quite well together last season, just waiting for him to get back to full fitness so we continue from where we left off!” We then asked Alex about when he joined the club: “Tommy and Alex attracted me to the club,” he said. “I have worked with them previously; they both gave me an opportunity to play at conference
WWW.TTFCOFFICIAL.ORG
level, and that’s what got my name out there. “So, the belief they had in me then, they still have now! It’s not easy coming across a management team that puts their trust in you to deliver. Tommy knows what I’m capable of and that’s all I need from my manager, because I’ll do all I can to make sure that I don’t let him down. They know when its #TeniolaTime I CANT BE STOPPED LOL!” he added smiling. In his time with the club, Alex has predominantly played with three strike partners – we asked him for his views on each – we suggest you skip the next bit and look away now messers, Vines, Luchford and Kwayie! “Vinesy is an aerial threat. Very good in the air and his positioning is brilliant, 9 times out of 10 he will be winning the header, so it’s always good to get around him and anticipate where the ball is going. “I played with Dane before at Tonbridge! Very good link up striker, his off the ball runs are brilliant, he will be a good asset for us this season. And Tashi is a hand full, a bit like me, we can both work off scraps and get into a tussle with defenders, he is young and has lots of energy! “All 3 strikers offer something completely different, so the manager has his work cut out for him! I think competition is always good, makes you want to play better and prove why you should be starting, so this season will be interesting.
“I think we are at a stage where we know what the Gaffa wants and he won’t stop till he gets what he wants out of us, we are definitely feeling the benefits because we are working together as a team and are still unbeaten in the first few games, which is a good feeling. “The only thing to do now is to keep developing as a team, and I still feel like communication on the pitch could be better.” “Princes Park is and looks like a true football stadium... Massive difference to the old ground. It’s a different atmosphere from the old ground, more of a footballing atmosphere. I think that has a knock-on effect on how you feel as a player and how you play. So when you get to the ground you know it’s time to do the business…” Finally, our “Five First’s” as we ask everyone the same five questions… First football kit bought (either for you or by you)? Welcome to Princes Park our new home - Jamie and Greenie have finally let me write some words for the programme, so here goes! Well a decent start to the season I think you would all agree.
off of him thinking he would be injured again during the celebration.
I think our first home game versus Hythe, whilst not the spectacle we would have liked, ended brilliantly with three points amid joyous scenes as Vinesy scored an added time winner on his comeback from long-term Injury.
Boy was I relieved when he finally emerged from the bottom of the pile with the biggest grin you have ever seen!
I was determined to have a good read of my current book “ Johnny Giles” on the way down, however that never happened, due to all the good natured banter between everybody.
Last Saturday we made the long journey down to the South Coast for our FA Cup tie against East Preston.
It was good to see all the squad & management plus some travelling supporters relaxed with a nice feeling of togetherness.

one, I thought that, despite the opposition not being as strong as us & some strange decisions by the officials, we stuck to our task not taking our foot of the pedal resulting in the team making a little bit of history. We were also named as Talk Sport non-league team of the week, not bad! On the journey home I was determined to have a good sleep, well at my age what do you expect, however that plan was thrown out of the window with the celebratory mood of everyone on the coach. If anyone reading this does not know of Johnny Giles, ask your Grandad & I don’t mean me! I cannot believe a year has passed since we last made history with our visit to Guernsey, I hope we do not have to wait another year to make history perhaps we can do something special this season and write another chapter in the TTFC

story? Lewes at home in the FA Cup next week should be a good game, I would book your tickets early as I think this will be a sell-out!!! This is a MUST win game for us, and particularly for me since I really do not fancy going to Lewes on a Tuesday night, It is a nice place, but just NOT on a Tuesday night. We welcome Horsham the Hornets into our nest today and let us hope we send them home with a sting between their own tail and no points. Craig Gibson First-team coach
