MANAGER’S COLUMN
STEVE
HOUSHAM
May I welcome the officials, players and supporters of Southport FC to our home this Monday afternoon, and I hope after an enjoyable game everyone has a safe journey home. Welcome to the Eon Visual Media Stadium as we take on Southport. Looking back at our last home game against Maidstone, for the first time we came off and got what we deserved - nothing. It was a frustrating day we started slowly and conceded early then
they had a man sent off. Although we huffed and puffed we never really threatened and looked a beaten side which was a big disappointment.
We travelled to Gateshead on a Tuesday night and we wanted a reaction, we changed a few things round from the Maidstone game and for the whole game the lads played the plan we set them and a superb performance brought us our first away win in the National League!
Another long trip against Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday saw us defeated, but not without a gutsy display by the lads.
Yet again on the day the only thing that split the sides was two quality finished goals by the top of table side, but I was pleased with the way the lads acquitted themselves against another full-time team and was close to getting something out of the game. Today we are back at home against a team who, like ourselves, are at wrong side of the table. It will be a tough game as they have brought in Steve Burr who I respect as one of the best non-league managers. He has already brought some good results so we need to be on top of our game to get the points we need. Today is the day we need you, the fans, to be our 12th man! Your support home and away has been the best I’ve known in my time in management. Although results are not going our way I can see how much you enjoy the journey we are on so today be loud be proud and sing your hearts out for the lads. Steve Housham First-Team Manager

THE VISITORS...
SOUTHPORT
North Ferriby United welcome Southport FC to the Eon Visual Media Stadium ahead of a crucial match in the National League... Despite the season still in it’s infancy today’s fixture has the feeling of an early six pointer, with both teams occupying places in the relegation zone.
The club are capable of playing at this level and have notched credible draws against Tranmere Rovers, Eastleigh and Aldershot.
Southport make the trip to East Yorkshire looking for their first victory since their 2-1 home win over Woking back in August.
For the home side, Ferriby will have pinpointed this match as one where they can pick up points. Steve Housham saw his side address their four game losing run by beating Gateshead away thanks to Reece Thompson’s strike.
Since then the club have gone eight games without tasting victory, however the club will know the importance of their next two fixtures - the Villagers and then a home match versus Bromley.
4
NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme
That said they failed to back up that result and fell short against Dagenham & Redbridge in a 2-0 away defeat.

Represented England in the Under 17 World Cup.
Vastly experienced left back, Neil made over 150 appearances for Shrewsbury Town and between 2010 and 2015 he broke the 200 barrier with Wrexham. He signed for the Conference club ahead of the 2010–2011 campaign taking the number 3 shirt and was a regular in the side in his first season with the Dragons making 42 appearances.

KEVIN LOKKO
LIAM NOLAN
Wrexam born defender Ross was with Wrexham last term having been a product of the club’s youth policy. Captained the Wrexham reserve team and was a regular in the centre back position. Ross missed the start of the 2015/16 season due to a metatarsal injury and made just 4 starts with 11 in the previous season.
Liam started 35 times in 2015/16 with 7 sub starts also under his belt he also scored two league goals. Strong and athletic he made the midfield slot his own after some hardworking and determined performances. Signed for Southport in August 2015. Paul Carden moved to bring in the Liverpool born midfielder after he ended an extensive trial at Blackburn Rovers.
THE OPPOSITION
THE RISING STAR
ANDRAI JONES GARY JONES
JAMES GRAY
Club Captain Gary is the veteran of the squad at 39. Despite his veteran status he still made 43 starts last term, more than any other Southport player. He also chipped in with five goals and became a fans favourite narrowly missing out on the Player Of The Year award. Gary signed for Southport following his release from Notts County in August 2015.
Striker James has been on the Southport shopping list for a few seasons and had previously been poised to sign for the club before opting to go to Wrexham. He finally put pen to paper to the delight of manager Andy Bishop. James has plenty of experience having played for Northampton, Accrington, Darlington, Middlesborough(his first club) and Hartlepool.
LOUIS ALMOND
JOHN COFIE
Southport supporters were delighted when Louis extended his contract by a year at the end of the 2015/16 season. A much sought after player after a fine season which saw him end up as leading scorer with 12 league goals. Louis made 41 starts for The Sandgrounders last season and finished in third place in the Player Of The Year also picking up several goal of the month awards
He had been on the Southport radar last season and finally put pen to paper for the 2016/17 season and is looking at an extended run in the first team to kick start his career after a much travelled last few seasons having played for Royal Antwerp in Begium, Molde in Norway along withLeague One experience with Sheffield United, Crawley and Notts County.
Andrai made 15 starts and 5 sub starts in 2015/16. He began his career as a youth at Everton and then Bury. Impressive displays for Bury reserves earned the Liverpudlian a move to then championship Barnsley. Released in the summer of 2015, the talented and versatile defender/midfielder penned a two year contract with the Sandgrounders and goes into his second season at the club. Lots of ability and pace, he will be one to watch this term.
THE GAFFER
STEVE BURR Steve Burr took over at Southport after the club relieved Andy Bishop of his duties after a string of poor results. Tasked with taking the club forward, Burr, was sacked by Chester in April after a run of just one win in 10 whih put the club in a relegation fight. GUEST COLUMN
View From The
STANDS Sam Shepherd looks at the recent string of results including the superb Gateshead win... Our last home game was a disappointing one to say the least. We slipped to a 2-0 loss against Maidstone who were the first team in the bottom half of the table to defeat Steve Housham’s side. Ferriby were 1-0 down nearing half-time, when Reece Thompson broke
just below the Play-offs, so it was always going to be a challenging week. One thing is for sure the spirit of this newly constructed the team can’t be questioned, as proved in the Gateshead game. Ferriby
and was brought down giving the referee no choice, but to give the Maidstone defender his marching orders.
were excellent on the night and outplayed their high-flying opponents for large spells of the game.
Unfortunately Ferriby failed to make the most of the man advantage in the second-half and conceded again soon after the interval. Our attack struggled and we slumped to the two goal defeat. This was slightly worrying with two away games in a week against Gateshead and Dagenham & Redbridge on the horizon. Both of whom are sat in or
Reece Thompson looks to be a great signing with his pace worrying defences and he was rewarded for his constant harrying of defenders on the night, when he popped up with the winning goal. Rory Watson made a fantastic save at the death to preserve Ferriby’s first 3 points away from home in the National League. Make no mistake this was
22
NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme
a momentous result for Ferriby and one which made the rest of the league take notice that we won’t be pushovers. Four days later Ferriby made another long trip down south to newly-relegated Dagenham & Redbridge. Again the Villagers acquitted themselves well but as has happened a few times on the road, they conceded an early goal and despite several chances they were unable to find the back of the net. They were eventually punished for this when the hosts scored a goal on the counter to kill the game off. Dagenham went top with that result so to come away with nothing was not a disaster especially with Ferriby putting in a big shift. Today we host Southport, who sit two places below us in 23rd. I don’t therefore need to tell you that today is a massive game, a “6 pointer” if you like. A win today would be a huge boost and would pull us away from other teams near the bottom. Enjoy the game!
