TERRY
SPILLANE
I’d like to welcome you all to Sporting Club Thamesmead as we welcome Phoenix Sports to our home ground. I’d like to start by wishing everyone a Happy New Year! Our last three games has seen a return of seven points out of nine and it’s fair to say that if you’d asked me beforehand, we would have definitely taken than return considering the quality of teams we were facing. The Saturday before Christmas we hosted Bury, who themselves were on a very good run and had a very good away record of just one defeat in 11 games. On the day. Bury found themselves up against a very determined Mead side, who were worthy winners on the day. We had done our homework on Bury and we 04
THAMESMEAD TOWN The Official Matchday Programme
knew it was going to be a tough physical game and so the boys were well prepared for that. I thought both teams were evenly matched but we just edged it on the day and Theo’s goal was good enough to win any game. Our next game was another big test for us as we entertained big spending Hornchurch. I have to say that in the 1st half we rode our luck (about time we had some!!) as Hornchurch showed their quality by pinning us into our own half and but for Walks, some desperate defending and the woodwork, Hornchurch could’ve been out of sight! But as I’ve already said, its about time we had some good luck
rather than the other sort that we seem to have endured in a lot of games lately! That luck however ran out later in the game! The half time “chat” was not for the feint hearted and to say it was “lively” is an understatement! However we were still in the game and we told the players to grasp the opportunity we had. A change of formation along with a change of attitude was clear to see from the restart. The tide had turned and it was now Hornchurch who were on the back foot, and we duly got our reward on the 70 minute mark, when Vinesy nodded home from 6 yds out to send our home fans crazy. Obviously

they put us under pressure by continuing to smash balls into our box but I was quietly confident that we would deal with that. Unfortunately for us the official found 6 minutes of added time from somewhere and with virtually the last kick (or should that be head) of the game, they equalised!
“As usual YOU, our supporters have been fantastic these last few weeks” After enjoying a day “off” on Boxing Day, we then made short trip to Aveley full of confidence with the added incentive of remembering our home defeat to them earlier in the season when they celebrated (quite rightly) very
loudly at the final whistle. For me, there was no doubt about the outcome of this game as I could sense the aura in the changing room before the kick off. We started brightly and instantly had them on the back foot but a combination of poor finishing & decisions going against us meant that somehow it was still 0-0 at half time. We reminded the players of our previous game where the shoe was on the other foot so to speak, and that they needed to stay focused and disciplined. We took the lead from a Butts penalty on the hour and 5 mins later, Vinesy showed his class by putting the keeper on his backside, before lifting the ball over him into the net.
had disappeared as they ended up with two players AND two members of their coaching staff sent off. So a two goal win was very well deserved and with the 3 points it puts us a little closer to our aim of a play off spot. We’ve added a couple of players recently so I’d like to welcome playmaker Max Mitchell from Hoddesdon and Sham Barnwell a striker with massive potential from Romford whilst we have also promoted young keeper Max from the Under 21s. As usual YOU, our supporters, have been fantastic these last few weeks so I’d like to thank you all as you make a big difference to us on match days! Come on you Mead! May I welcome the officials, players and supporters of Phoenix FC, our local footballing neighbours to our home at SCT This is the first game played between the two teams since they were promoted champions last season and they are certainly surprising a few clubs this season with their current success. I hope after an enjoyable game they have a safe journey home. May I also wish a warm welcome to Adam Woodward who is a great contributor to all of the community work that the club carries out within the schooling community of this catchment area. Without his and his colleagues help this club would not have the professionally set up it has at this time thank you Adam. May I also personally take this opportunity to wish everyone associated with the club from the first-team, academy to the whole youth section a very Happy New Year and I hope we all have what we wish for at New Year. Also a warm wish to all of our supporters new, old and visiting you are always welcome here. Finally, I would like to send a personal Happy New Year to Stephen Howlett the CEO of Peabody Trust our landlords, together with all of those within the employment of Peabody working under the stewardship of

the local management team headed by the Thamesmead Trusts CEO Mick Hayes a great friend to the club. On Monday I took the short journey from Maidstone to our match at Aveley, this ground whenever I have taken a team to play there has always been a difficult ground to get a win - even a draw! But I should not have worried our team on the day did the job in a very fiery game mostly caused by the attitude of the home players and the inconsistent actions of the referee. The ref, who had his book out issuing cards far too many times in my opinion, especially as it was the home team that lost two players on the pitch together with the assistant manager being sent to the stands, but on the day the players did it for their manager who certainly deserved it and it was great to be a party to their achievements. Well here we are at the start of a New Year, this time last year I was looking forward to relinquishing my role as a Director and major shareholder of the club in March of 2015 - as I felt I had turned the club around to make it viable after the move to our new home at the SCT.
Keith, my fellow Director and firstteam manager, could once again take the reins of the club and take it wherever they felt was best for the club now the debts had been secured, but things tend to happen quickly within football. In January Keith phoned me and said Paul I am going to leave the club in the next few weeks giving the reason of his breakdown of relations with our Landlords the Thamesmead Trust, I said anyway you could change your mind to which he replied no, so there I had it no fellow Director and no firstteam manager I was now on my own. Moreover no retiring from being a Director, which to be honest I was looking forward to it or should I say my partner for 23 years Christine was also looking forward to having me around as were the grandchildren. So I had to decide take on the challenge or also walk away as others had done which would certainly have resulted in the club ceasing to trade resulting in an old football club ceasing to exist something after careful consideration I could not allow to happen, therefore I took on the challenge, appointed an old trusted friend Kai to join me as a Director and then start the task of
THE BOARDROOM
finding a new first-team manager. My plan, as all those that have worked with me previously will know, I always have a plan before I do anything, this plan was for 5 years. It involved reorganising the club firstly by changing the club from a membership club to a full shareholding Limited Company allowing external investment,
“I can confirm that ALL my proposed plans are moving forward as required so let’s look forward to the new year!” repairing our professional working relationship with our landlords - which would also involve increasing our existing 4 year licence to a 10 year lease. Re-organising the youth section to be run by an independent committee
under a new Chairman, take back the running of the Academy from the SCT, and most importantly continue the good work on the field that was Keith’s legacy. To that end I employed Terry Spillane, a very professional and accomplished football manager with a first class pedigree. You get what you see with Terry, something I really admire of him as soon as I met him weeks before I interviewed him, I knew he was the man for this club. Once I had the correct manager I had to commit personal financial backing for a squad that would in the first season at least be in the play-offs but within the first 3 years I wanted promotion to the Premier something this Club managed a couple of seasons ago by winning the play-offs against a team that Terry was managing at that time. As it is quite clear the club could not support a first-team on the small amount of revenue it receives through its gates, so there you have it I personally committed to ensuring the club became financially viable which was okay but unfortunately it relied on me being around for those 5 years to personally fund the requirements.
I hope to be here throughout to ensure my plans become a fruition rather than words and figures on a sheet of paper, but it will always depend on my good health. Therefore I have to ensure that my tasks are accomplished as quickly as feasibly possible with the help of all those around me that feel the same way about this club and there are many. I’m just lucky to be in a position to fund the club at this time but to secure financial viability I must get other third parties involved and interested to join me on this planned journey to ensure that the club gets stronger each season and will one day within the 5 years be able to support itself, I can confirm that ALL my proposed plans are moving forward as required so let’s all look forward to the new year and continued success on and off the field because I am. Now let’s all enjoy the game we love. Paul Bowden-Brown Chairman & Managing Director

In her regular column this year first-team physio Carly Payne brings us up to date with the current injury list... Hi all and welcome to Bayliss Avenue... I’d like to start by wishing everyone a Happy New Year, and I hope you all had a good Christmas! It was great getting “home” for the weekend before Christmas after nearly a two week break. We were all looking forward to both games as the boys looked to pick up where we left off with an impressive 5-2 win over Barkingside. And anyone who saw the games against Bury and Hornchurch will surely agree that we deserved the results we got - but can someone explain where the extra time came from against Hornchurch? In the break that we had in the middle of last month was spent re grouping as a squad, we enjoyed our team Christmas Day out and there was even secret Santa after one training session where some interesting gift were given including
a nerf gun, a dummy and some sponge bob pants! Morale in camp is high so let’s hope we can carry that into today’s game and on into the New Year and get a winning run behind us - lets face it 10 points from the last four games to end the year is a place to start! We start the year on a high with no injuries to report - Gorbs suffered
a dead leg on Monday but should be OK today - and so its now just Hoppo keeping me company in the treatment room. That’s all from me, I’d like to wish you all a Happy New Year and thank you for your support so far this season!

PHOENIX SPORTS
CLUB INFO Nickname: Sports Founded: 1935 Ground: Phoenux Sports Ground Chairman: Andrew Mortlock Manager: Steve O’Boyle Last Season: 1st (Promoted)
Having lost only once last season, Phoenix Sports earned promotion as champions from the Southern Counties East Football League. Amassing 93 points from their 38 games, the club won the title by eight points with a goal difference of +74. Phoenix Sports have continued their good form into this season and sit mid-table just below the Mead in 12th place. The side have taken many by surprise and Thamesmead must be on their guard to ensure Phoenix don’t gain another scalp. From their 28 games this season Sport have won 12 drawn five and lost a further 11 giving them a points tally of 41. A win for either side would close the gap on the Play-off places with four points separating eight teams in a tightly congested top half of the table.

THE OPPOSITION
CLUB HISTORY Phoenix Sports Club was formed in 1935 as St. Johns Welling which later changed its name to Lakeside. After the Second World War they reformed and renamed Phoenix as it was seen to be rising from the ashes of the previous two clubs amid the destruction of the blitz. They played at various locations in the local area including Danson Park, until 1950 when the local council offered them a piece of waste land in May-place Road East, Bexleyheath. This has now evolved into the Sports Ground that we now know as The Club. Football & cricket have been played at Mayplace Road East, and many members past and present have represented the club by playing both sports, but with the growth of junior football cricket has moved away.
Two West. We won Division Two West in 2004-05 and Division One West in 2007-08, regaining our Kent County League Premier Division status. In recent years we have seen a steady improvement in the standard of football played at Phoenix, especially after the introduction of our Saturday morning soccer academy for juniors and a new management team at our senior level.
Due to financial difficulties we were forced to form a Limited Company and are now called PHOENIX SPORTS CLUB (1982) LTD.
After 3 seasons in the Premier Division, the first team became founder members of the Kent Invicta League at step 6 of the National League System, the highest level of football the club has ever played at. We went on to finish runners up, missing out by only two points to eventual champions Bly Spartans as well as reaching the League Cup Final, again losing out to Bly Spartans.
The club entered the Spartan League in 1986-87 and competed there for six seasons. They then returned to the Kent County League Division One West, winning the challenge cup in 1993-94. We won the league in 1999-2000, gaining promotion to the Premier Division, however after two relegations we ended up in Division
Unfortunately the 1st team and Reserve team Management both decided to resign for personal reasons at the end of season 2011-2012. After an exhaustive process we appointed Steve O’Boyle and Tony Beckingham as Joint 1st Team Managers, and John Hope as Manager for the Reserves assisted by Brian Magenis and John

Barry. After a successful campaign and losing only 2 League games the 1st Team managed to win the Kent Invicta League Championship to gain promotion to the Kent League, which has been renamed as Southern Counties East Football League. Last season we aspired to a higher finish, hoping for maybe 4th spot. We had a very good start to the season but unfortunately lost in our first ever appearance in the FA Cup. Losing on penalties after a replay. We then began an unbelievable run in both the League and FA Vase. The Vase journey was fantastic culminating in us reaching the 4th Round Proper, losing to the eventual winners North Shields. In the League we managed to lose only 1 game all season and accumulating 30 clean sheets. Due to these performances we managed to win the League quite comfortably in the end, although there were a few sticky moments. These achievements meant that we also had to work miracles off the pitch, but we eventually managed to get all the necessary works done in time to gain promotion to The Ryman League

Can I start by saying that I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and on behalf of the Academy lads and staff, wish everyone a Happy New Year! As we start the second half of the season, our second and third year students know that this is the time when they have to step up to the mark and produce consistent performances if they are to be pushing for the Gary and the Under-21 side and more importantly if they are to be invited to train with the Gaffer and the first-team.

During the holiday period, it been pleasing that we’ve had people requesting information for our trials we holding next month for next year. I’ll bring you all those details in our next programme in nine days time and yes there is still time to get involved! We are also in the middle of reaching out to non 6th form schools in the local vicinity asking if we can have a look at some of their players with an eye again on next season. In the coming weeks, I shall be running my eye over our U16
teams and talking to them and their parents about our set up and the exciting things going on. Both the Chairman and I are currently in discussions with a third party with a hopeful outcome to move the Academy on further by making links in what we consider to be important places! Good luck to Terry and the lads today. Yours in sport, Ian Docker Academy Manager
FROM THE SECRETARY’S DESK
FROM THE SECRETARY’S DESK Can I please start by wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2016. I welcome the committee, supporters and players from Phoenix Sports, I have a long association with the Crayford based Club and I’m looking forward to the match today. Our form and points gained has improved greatly over the past couple of weeks, good solid performances against two title contenders Bury Town (1-0) and
AFC Hornchurch (1-1) Theo Fairweather –Johnson scored a blinder to give us the three home points against a resolute Bury Town and Hornchurch needed a very very late equaliser to take a point away from SCT. Although our Boxing day fixture away to Aveley had been moved to last Monday we did enough in a match that we should have had sewn up by half time, a penalty from Richard Butler and a Paul
Vines strike gained us all three points in a niggley contest that saw Aveley have two players dismissed. Following our match today we will travel to Harlow next Tuesday (5th Jan.) in another game that will offer a stiff test to Terrys side. Enjoy the game today. Dave Joy Club Secretary

JIMMY HILL TRIBUTE
A TRIBUTE TO
JIMMY HILL
Former Match of the Day presenter Jimmy Hill OBE, one of English football’s most influential figures, died on Saturday 19th December at the age of 87. MIKE GREEN’s been looking at how “Jim the Chin” became one the greatest innovators that football in this country has ever seen... As chairman of the Professional Footballers’ Association, Jimmy led the campaign for the scrapping of maximum wages for professional footballers - his own playing career saw him play 297 games for Fulham and was later manager and then chairman at Coventry. He was sadly diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2008 at a time when little was known about the disease after becoming more than a TV star as Jimmy made more than 600 appearances as presenter of Match of the Day. Indeed when he first moved from ITV to the BBC to present Match of the Day in 1973, the Radio Times announced the news by putting him on its cover under the headline ‘Catch
18

of the Year’! Little did we know at the time but over the coming years he was to have revolutionised televised football as head of sport at London Weekend Television and he arrived at the BBC with the mandate of modernising Match of the Day. He succeeded, making it national institution that it still is today. As the face of the programme, he would go on to be one of the most recognisable TV personalities of the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s. In the days when there were only three channels, the programme regularly commanded viewing figures of more than 12 million every Saturday night.
And he became a cult figure because of his distinctive appearance as well as the forthright and occasionally offthe-wall views he expressed in front of the camera. When he finally moved out of the presenter chair in 1989, Jimmy had made more than 600 appearances on Match of the Day and remains the programme’s longest-serving anchor, spending 16 seasons fronting the show. He moved over to a summarisers chair with the shows “new” presenter, Des Lynam, and stayed on for another decade as a pundit. In total he worked for ITV and the BBC on nine World Cups (1966-1998) and eight European Championships
JIMMY HILL TRIBUTE
(1968-1996). Before he became a TV pundit, presenter and executive, Jimmy was a footballer-turned union leader dubbed the ‘bearded beatnik’ because of his willingness to challenge the system. The son of a Balham milkman, he scored 41 goals in 277 games for Fulham and famously once stood in as an emergency lineman during a game at Highbury in 1972 between Arsenal and Liverpool. Although he scored in every round of the FA Cup when Fulham reached the semi-finals in 1958, his most notable achievements as a player came after he was appointed chairman of the Professional Footballers’ Association in 1956.
He campaigned to end the Football League’s £20 maximum wage, threatening a strike before he succeeded in abolishing the ruling in 1961 and within months Johnny Haynes had become England’s first £100-a-week player. During his spell as Coventry chairman, Jimmy campaigned for the introduction of three points for a win rather than two, with the reasoning that it promoted attacking, and thus
more entertaining, football. Within 14 years, every major league in the world had followed suit, and the system was also introduced at the 1994 World Cup. By the start of the 1980s, the television career was in full swing. He had joined LWT as their head of sport in 1967 and immediately poached the BBC’s Brian Moore, who would be the face and voice of ITV football for most of the next 30 years. The introduction of technology like the first slow-motion replay device in the UK and a predictive computer nicknamed ‘Cedric’ helped ITV’s ‘The Big Match’ outshine ‘Match of the Day’. And more success came at the 1970 World Cup, when Hill was responsible for installing ITV’s panel of experts in a studio at Wembley.
By the time he joined the BBC in 1973, Hill was approaching celebrity status. The same Radio Times that announced his arrival on its cover described him inside as “belonging in the classic mould of those sporting heroes beloved of boys’ comics like Wizard and Hotspur”. He would help Match of the Day become a national institution, also bringing fame to commentators and co-hosts John Motson and Barry Davies. They would come into the studio to analyse their own commentaries and
present news round-ups in the days where the show could only show highlights from two top-flight games each weekend. On the BBC Sport website, Motson paid tribute by saying, “How do you sum up a life like Jimmy Hill? if I had to try and do it in three words it would be: innovator, instigator and inspiration. There is so much to say about Jimmy, it never stopped, it was original, revolutionary. He thought of things before other people did - the two big innovations that the modern generation take for granted - shirt sponsor names, unheard of back in the 70s and 80s, and the three points for a win. He was hugely instrumental in that.” Jimmy Hill’s footballing legacy will never be forgotten both on and off screen. He received an award for his contribution to league football in 2009 and was inducted to the National Football Museum Hall of Fame with a special Lifetime Achievement award in 2010. Our final word comes courtesy of the FA website and chairman Greg Dyke. “In many ways, Jimmy Hill was football. What was remarkable about Jimmy was that he went on to have so many different careers. He was a popular presenter, a hugely influential figure and, such was his style, he was loved by millions - even among those who didn’t follow football,” Dyke said. “I knew him at the BBC. He always kept a simple charm and had a warm personality. Those are special qualities and helped him have a broad appeal, but he managed to combine that with a deep knowledge of football. His insightful analysis and strong-minded opinions helped bring the game to life and paved the way for the TV coverage of football that we love today. He was a true great of the game.” THAMESMEAD TOWN vs Phoenix Sports

BURY TOWN
Fairweather-Johnson (55)
Saturday 19th December 2015 | Ryman League Division One North | Sporting Club Thamesmead | Att: 86
A sensational strike early in the second-half from Theo Fairweather-Johnson along with three stunning saves from keeper Andy Walker saw the Mead inflict only Bury Town’s second away defeat of the season. Playing our first home Saturday game in eight weeks, it was a game that the Mead knew we had to win to get back in touch with the Play Off places. To be fair to the visitors though, they battled back really well after going behind and Andy had to be on the top of his game (after already making one great save) as he brilliantly denies Hall and Hughes to keep the home side in front. The first half started extremely
20
THAMESMEAD TOWN The Official Matchday Programme
cautiously and the Mead could have led early on as Theo’s header thudded off of the bar following Ben Glasgow’s cross. The visitors then had a “goal” from Ramadan ruled out for offside before the same player cut in from the right and sent a drive fractionally too high! Andy was at his alert best to deny Hughes in the early stages of the second half, before Theo’s wonder strike put the Mead in front ten minutes into the half. As the Mead front line continued to stretch the visitors defense, Bury were more and more reliant on swift breaks and after winning a corner from one, Andy produced a truly breath taking save – somehow managing to divert Hughes flicked header (after a deep set piece had been nodded back into the danger zone) over the bar.
With the Mead back line forming a strong green and white barrier, time and again the visitors forwards floundered as the Mead looked to secure the three points. At the other end, Theo’s efforts were more than matched by Paul Vines and the debut making Shoma Barnwell as the home side closed in on three vital points. Three points that were sealed when Andy made his third good stop of the day – this time full length away to his right to palm Hall’s drive round the right post! AFC HORNCHURCH
Vines (66)
McKenzie (90+6)
Monday 21st December 2015 | Ryman League Division One North | Cheshunt Stadium | Att: 133
It was a heart-breaking end to The Mead’s pre-Christmas campaign, after it had looked as though Paul Vines’ header on 66 minutes would make it three wins on the trot and a very happy festive season. It took just 34 seconds for the first chance to fall to Hornchurch as the Thamesmead defence was caught out by a straight ball over the top. Knight was quickest to react and, with defenders trailing in his wake, attempted an early lob over Andy Walker, who moved his feet quickly to punch the shot away. Styles then powered a header against the upright, although Thamesmead were saved by the official’s whistle, and even when the home side could get the ball into the Hornchurch
area, they were still vulnerable to the counter-attack. On 38, Purcell crashed a 25-yard freekick against Andy’s right post, which left the woodwork shaking, which would have what the visitors deserved for their first half performance as the Mead really struggled to get into the game, but the period ended goalless. Thankfully whatever The Boss said to the Mead during the interval started to take effect as Paul Vines in particular started to show off the more aggressive side of his game, making life difficult for the Hornchurch defenders. Even the most biased of home fan would have admitted that the opening goal came against the run of play, and was instigated by an adventurous run from left-back Jay
Porter. His powerful burst caught out the Hornchurch midfield, and the eventual shot dipped viciously in front of Mott, which Goodacre hacked to safety. From Derek Duncan’s set-piece, Paul rose majestically to divert his header beyond Mott and into the corner of the net. With the home crowd baying for the final whistle, referee Sotimirin turned from Santa to Scrooge as the official found nearly EIGHT minutes of stoppage time! And sadly in the SIXTH of these, the visitors earned themselves a point with pratically last touch of the game as Chudman’s long hopeful ball into the box was glanced goalwards by McKenzie and this time not even Andy could stop the ball nestling in the corner of the Mead’s net.

THAMESMEAD Butler (58 pen), Vines (61)
Monday 28th December 2015 | Ryman League Division One North | The Mill Field | Att: 103
Second half goals from
Richard Butler and Paul Vines saw the Mead avenge Aveley’s win at the SCT in August in quote possibly the most comprehensive performance that Terry’s side has produced all season long. After wasting numerous chances in the first half, with the home wood work being struck twice and the Mead having a “goal” disallowed as well, two goals in the space of five mad second half minutes took the Meads total to ten points out of twelve since the early December “break” – a return that has taken the Mead to within four points of the prized Play-off places. Early on, home keeper James Marrable survived loud appeals for hand ball outside of his box as Tyrus GordonYoung sprinted clear but referee Skipper, waved away the appeals! The Mead then had a goal disallowed when the keeper couldn’t hold Richard’s shot but Theo FairweatherJohnson was ruled offside as he netted the rebound, before Marrable fine a fine stop to deny Tyrus following Marc Gorbell’s fine through ball. With the half wearing on, it seemed just a matter of time before the visitors took the lead as first Derek Duncan fired a free kick into the side netting

before a dreadful clearance from Marrable fell straight to Theo, only for the keeper to redeem himself with a fine save. But from the corner, Butts was denied by the bar after firmly meeting Vinesy knock back. The home side then provided the Mead with a real wake up call as Nash got on the end of an aimless ball into the visitors box, before creating space for himself only to be denied brilliantly by Andy Walker who spread himself brilliantly! The first-half ended with the Mead going close again – this time Tyrus fired over from the angle after sprinting clear down the right channel. The second half exploded into lift after only a couple of minutes as the home side found themselves down to ten men as Teniola found himself shown a straight red card for an ugly clash with Farai Hallam which left the Mead man needing lengthy treatment. The decision though clear for all to see for some reason incensed the home dug out and the referee ordered Aveley’s coach to the stand. With a man advantage, surely the Mead must now take advantage and they duly did within five minutes as Tyrus was flattened in the box after Jay Porter’s cross had been deflected high into the air, and Butts duly converted
the spot kick with some aplomb. One became two very quickly as Vinesy showed his class and experience by sprinting clear of the defence, and as the keeper came out desperately trying to narrow the angle, the Mead striker made five goals in his last four starts with some aplomb leaving Marrable stranded on his back-side! With the points now well and truly in the bag, Vinesy could have added another for himself but his effort from Jays cross, didn’t have the legs to cross the line on a very heavy pitch, and Theo was denied the chance of rolling in the rebound by a last gasp clearance. There was still time for the home side to be reduced still further as Harrison was shown a straight red card for a cynical challenge on Tyrus and shortly afterwards a second member of the home sides coaching team was dismissed from the dug out – again for something that was said! All in all a fine performance from the Mead eventually – one that has taken Terry and the boys to the very edge of the Play-off places as 2015 becomes 2016 – a position that some would say is the place to be going into what could become a very exciting second half of the season.

COMMERCIAL CORNER
COMMERCIAL NEWS
with Mike Green
Happy New Year everyone! Its the time of year to reflect on the year gone and what lies ahead in 2016, and whilst we can’t sit back and rest on our laurels for what we’ve achieved so far this season, everyone concerned with the club knows that we must continue to keep taking large steps forward which will take the same hard work as has already been put in this season. And now going forward we have new initiatives and potential plans that we’re working on to turn into reality and hopefully we’ll be in a position to in the next few weeks to confirm the details and publicise what we hope will be the start of a new social diary that will see us hosting events over the coming months that I hope you’ll come out and support! Whilst on the subject of support, you most definitely have this season, and with our gates showing a truly remarkable increase this season, we can only thank you - the Mead faithful - for you backing and the support that you’re giving the boys week in week out in ever growing numbers!
There are plenty of sponsorship and advertising chances still available to take up for the rest of the current season - whether it be advertising in and around the ground or in the official match day programme or on the club website - whether it be match ball or match sponsorship for individual games here at the SCT over the coming months - or it could be player sponsorship for the player’s not yet backed - THE DECISION IS YOURS!
Thanks for your backing in 2015, and here’s hoping that we can still count on it in 2016! Happy New Year everyone. Greenie If your company would like to sponsor a forthcoming home game, please see Greenie TODAY or contact him on commercialttfc@live.co.uk or alternatively 07845 751319

THE CLEAN SHEET CHALLENGE
CLEAN SHEET CHALLENGE
10
CLEAN SHEET TOTAL Following the success of last season’s Clean Sheet Challenge, the club is delighted that once again this season we are seeking your support to raise money for charity, but this year we’re doing it for two charities rather than just one! Last season, Rob Budd and Vicente Mansanet between them kept 14 clean sheets as we raised money for Cancer Research UK – the final total will be revealed soon, and it is worth waiting for! Throughout this season, we’re delighted once again to be working with our friends from Cancer Research, but we will also be raising funds for London’s Air Ambulance, the registered charity that delivers an advanced trauma team to critically injured people in London in a bright red helicopter! We’ll learn more about what the LAA do in an upcoming programme. If you want to contribute - and we hope that you will - we’re in the process of setting up a Just Giving web page for this season, or alternatively there’s always the old fashioned way of filling out the sponsorship form that you’ll find in the boardroom! 34
