THE MANAGER

THE MANAGER

STEVE HOUSHAM May I welcome the officials, players and supporters of AFC Telford United to the Eon Visual Media Stadium this afternoon, and I hope after an enjoyable game everyone has a safe journey home. Welcome back to the Eon Visual Media Stadium after another free weekend. Our last game, against FC United Of Manchester, saw us put in a positive performance and a game that saw us score goals. But on a negative point, we was disappointed to score three goals and only get a point out of the game. In our last two games we have looked a threat in terms of scoring, but yet again, our frailties are conceding and it’s something we as a group have been working on during our training sessions. It was the first home game for our fans to see the new lads from Rotherham in and I’m delighted the way they have settled in. Kuda Muskwe will be the one a lot of people would have come away talking about as he scored two on his home debut and, on writing these notes, we hope to have secured all three lads for a further stay at the club and we will be delighted to keep them. Mason Warren has come in and looks to have a great future ahead of him, while Darnelle BaileyKing will also excite fans with his pace and ability. Hopefully Kuda will carry on scoring goals, but it also brings competition for places and in training every member of the squad has been superb and are all fighting to win a starting 11 place which bodes well for future games. We need to carry the training spirit into today’s game against a good AFC Telford United side who have had mixed, but very good results away from

home, so we need to be right all over the park today to get the result we want. We still have two long-term injuries in Danny Emerton and Joe Pugh, but they are getting plenty of treatment to get them right. Thank you for your great support at our last home game and, although it was only a point, I hope you enjoyed the commitment the players put in. Keep supporting the lads who will do their best to keep fighting for the wins we need.. Enjoy the game and up the Villagers! THE CAPTAIN

THE CAPTAIN Welcome to the Eon Visual Media Stadium as we take on AFC Telford United in the National League North. Since my last notes we picked up a draw against FC United Of Mancheser and we return today to take on AFC Telford United. But first, the performance against FC United. We were a lot more positive, but we felt after going 2-1 up in the second half, we should of gone on to win the game even though in the end we needed a late goal to rescue a point. Kuda Muskwe has provided something we’ve been missing all season and you could tell by having someone like that up top it really makes a difference to the team. Hopefully he can continue banging the goals in for us and help us climb the table! We haven’t been in over the previous weekend as Housh gave us a rest, but we trained hard during the week and we will all be raring to go for another massive game at home to Telford. It’s going to be tough as are all the games in this league, but we’ve got to believe and, after last weekend’s performance, I think we have a great chance of picking the much-needed three points up. Thanks again to the fans for the support we really appreciate it. Stephen Brogan First-Team Captain

AFC TELFORD UNITED

AFC Telford United head over to the Eon Visual Media Stadium on the back of progressing to the first round of the FA Cup. The Bucks scored twice in secondhalf stoppage time to beat FC United of Manchester 3-1 on Saturday. Marcus Dinanga opened the scoring in the 52nd minute, in front of 1,451 fans at the New Bucks Head. United’s Craig Lindfield equalised before Dinanga was fouled for a penalty in the 92nd, which he put away. Jordan Lussey put the icing on the cake with a smart finish in the 94th minute. Dinanga’s brace took him to 10 goals for the campaign. The tally means he has already

surpassed the Bucks’ top goalscorer from last season, Josh Wilson – who got nine. In the league, AFC Telford United sit 14th in the National League North having picked up six wins and seven losses from their opening 13 games. Remarkably they are yet to draw a game this term and have scored 19 times conceding 24 in the process. Last time out in the National League North, Telford United overcame Boston United 2-1 after first-half goals from Shane Sutton and Anthony Dwyer - the latter being on the stroke of half-time. Three points for the Bucks could see them climb as high as eight if results went in their favour. NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme

AFC TELFORD UNITED

RECENT HISTORY

AFC Telford United is a football club based in Telford, Shropshire, England. The club were formed after Telford United folded due to financial problems. Currently members of the National League North, the sixth tier of English football, they play home matches at the New Bucks Head in Wellington, part of the new town of Telford. Their colours are white with navy blue and red trim. Telford United, then playing in the Football Conference, experienced severe financial difficulties towards the end of the 2003–04 season following the collapse of the Miras Contracts business of chairman and sole shareholder Andy Shaw. The club went into administration, and although supporters raised around £50,000 in two months, the club’s debts totalled over £4 million, resulting in liquidation on 27 May 2004. On the same day, Telford United Supporters Limited announced that a new club would be formed, which was named A.F.C. Telford United. In June the new club were placed in Division One of the Northern Premier League by the Football Association. Bernard McNally was appointed as boss and a new squad assembled. The club’s first season saw them finish third in Division One, qualifying for the promotion play-offs. After beating Eastwood Town 1–0 in the semi-final, they defeated Kendal Town 2–1 in the final to earn promotion to the Premier Division. The following season saw the club finish tenth. During the season, McNally was replaced as manager by Rob Smith. In 2006–07 the club finished third, having missed the chance to win the league when they lost 2–1 at home to eventual champions Burscough on the final day. However, they qualified for the promotion play-offs, and a 2–0 win over Marine in the semi-

final, they defeated Witton Albion 3–1 to earn promotion to the Conference North. The 2007–08 season saw Telford finish second in the Conference North qualifying for the playoffs, in which they lost 4–0 on aggregate to Barrow. The 2008–09 season resulted in a fourth-place finish and another play-off campaign. After beating Alfreton Town 5–4 on aggregate in the semi-finals, they lost 1–0 to Gateshead. In 2009–10 the club finished eleventh in the league, resulting in the sacking of Smith and his replacement with Andy Sinton. Sinton’s first season saw them finish as runnersup again. In the play-offs they defeated Nuneaton Town 3–2 on aggregate in the semi-final, before beating Guiseley 3–2 in the final. The 2011–12 season saw them finish twentieth, one place above the relegation zone. Sinton left the club mid-way through the following season, and was replaced by Mark Cooper, who remained in charge for only six games, before resigning to take a coaching role at Swindon Town. He was replaced by Graham Hyde, who lasted just two games, resigning after a defeat to Macclesfield Town. John Psaras took over for the remainder of the season, which saw them finish bottom of the division and be relegated to the Conference North. Liam Watson was appointed as manager in May 2013. In 2013–14 the club won the Conference North, earning an immediate return to the Conference Premier. However, the following season Watson was sacked in December with the club bottom of the division and replaced by Steve Kittrick. They eventually finished 23rd, resulting in relegation back to the North division. In August 2015 Kittrick was sacked and Rob Smith returned for a second spell as manager. MATCH Kuda MUSKWE

Saturday 7 October 2017 | Eon Visual Media Stadium | Att: 492 This was an entertaining game with some fine goals. The result was probably fair in the end, but it has done little for rather side’s hopes of climbing out of the relegation zone. The game was end-to-end throughout, but there was little to threaten either keeper in the first 20 minutes. Sefton Gonzales, who had a lively start, fired an early shot at Ross Durrant that did not really trouble the keeper. Steve Irwin, who had a good game throughout the match in FC’s midfield drew a good diving save from Durrant. A few minutes later visiting keeper Lloyd Allison replicated the save to deny Bobby Johnson. The game really burst in to life after 41 minutes. It was one of those 20-second cameos that can, and often does change a whole game. Allinson just beat Kuda Muskwe to the ball on the edge of the area. His clearance was knocked on to Tom Walker on the left and he cut in to fire past Durrant. To Ferriby’s credit, the lead was short-lived as Muskwe played the ball past Allinson less than two minutes later following good work from Russ Fry and Curtis Bateson. Ferriby had the better of the early part of the second-half and took the lead when Steve Brogan drove home a free-kick from the edge of the area. The Villagers’ certainly deserved the lead at this point. However, the goal seemed to galvanise FC United and they began to get on top. They equalised, perhaps a little fortuitously after 63 minutes. Tom Greaves hit a tremendous hooked shoot that hit the underside of the bar, came down and went in the net, seemingly, off Durrant’s head. Technically an own-goal, but it would be churlish to deny Greaves for such a good piece of 12

NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme

skill. Muskwe was inches wide of putting Ferriby back in front almost immediately after the restart. Such was the end-to-end nature of the game. Irwin put FC ahead with an unstoppable 30-yard drive. Given The Villagers’ bad luck this season, it seemed that they would lose to a worldclass goal. However, there is a spirit and determination in this Ferriby side now. The players rose to the challenge and Muskwe equalised with a shot on the turn after good work by substitute Callum Rzonca on the right. The match as a whole was a fairly robust affair with nobody shirking challenges. However, it was played in the right spirit with both sides accepting decisions and players just getting on with the game. On Non-League Day, it was an example to players higher up the system as to how the game should be played. Ferriby manager Steve Housham was much happier than in recent weeks, “It was a well-deserved and hard-earned point. There were some really good goals scored by both sides.”

VIEW FROM THE STANDS

VIEW FROM THE STANDS by Sam Shepherd Welcome to the Eon Visual Media Stadium where today we take on AFC Telford United. I’m afraid to say it’s already getting to the stage where this has to be labelled a must-win game, as we sit six points from safety after last week’s draw with FC United Of Manchester. There is still a long way to go in the season, but we have to start picking up some wins soon or it will become more and more difficult to bridge the gap that has already built up. There are plenty of positives that can be taken from the FCUM game. For a start, we scored three goals which we had not managed since the fourth game of last season, so that has to be seen as a real plus point from the game. Kuda Muskwe has really hit the ground running for us since joining on loan from Rotherham and he bagged two on his home debut. If the loanee keeps up that sort of goal scoring form we might just have a chance of survival. The tenacity of the lads was also pleasing to see. After going 1-0 and 2-1 up it would have been easy for the lads to throw in the towel when Steve Irwin made it 3-2 to the visitors. Muskwe was on hand to score an impressive volleyed equaliser after some impressive buildup play from Rzonca. That gave Ferriby a point they derived from 22

the game and that should be commended. The brutal fact is though that we should never have been in that position. When we went 2-1 in front we weren’t able to control the game and see out the win and that will be the most frustrating part for Steve Housham. As pleasing as it was to grab a late equaliser Ferriby need to hold onto winning positions when they get them to have any chance of survival. Telford arrive at the Eon Visual Media Stadium in good form after winning two of their last three league games and progressing to the 1st round proper of the FA Cup after beating FCUM 3-1 last week. They will see this as an opportunity to keep their good form going so it is going to be a tough game, but hopefully Steve Housham can inspire his side to a much-needed win. If they give Muskwe good service the chances are, he will score and he may well be our best chance of winning today! Enjoy the game! Sam Shepherd North Ferriby United Supporter
