THE MANAGER

TERRY

SPILLANE

I’d like to welcome you all to Sporting Club Thamesmead as we welcome Great Wakering Rovers to our home ground. Good afternoon and welcome Great Wakering to the SCT. Last Saturdays game was a tough away trip to Soham. After a change of manager a few weeks back they’d bought in some very good players inc ex Man Utd star Luke Chadwick and Craig Hammond who’s a very well respected striker in the non league world. They’d been on a very good run of results having lost just 1 in their previous 6 games so we knew it would be a game where we had to be at our best to get a result. The pitch was in awful condition so it was not going to be a pretty game, but as I’ve stated before we have a team who can adapt very well to the conditions we

04

THAMESMEAD TOWN The Official Matchday Programme

play in. We started very well and I thought we took a firm foothold in the game and were in control of procedures. We could’ve taken the lead after just 5 mins when Tyrus outmuscled his marker to create a chance for himself but unfortunately his shot went high and wide when well placed. We then had more possession than our hosts but apart from Lee’s speculative effort from 25 yds out that went wide chances were at a premium. However on 25 mins a good interchange of passing and movement down our left side ended with Jay putting in an excellent cross that Vinesy got on the end of only to see his

thumping header come back off the bar!! But Theo showed his class and was alert to the rebound and scored from 6 yds out. With our tails up and every player in our team working their socks off it seemed only a matter of time before we increased our lead!! On the 35 min mark Tyrus controlled a through ball in the Soham penalty area but was bundled over by the onrushing keeper who was lucky to just get a yellow card. Up stepped Butts to drill his penalty past the keeper to put us 2-0 in front. We spoke at half time about the importance of keeping our work rate up and still driving forward in possession rather than sit back and defend for 45 mins. The pitch

THE MANAGER

was going from bad to worse so we told the players to keep calm and make sure our passing was accurate and put into the right areas. We started the 2nd half on the front foot again and on the 50 min mark Vinesy had a great chance to put the game out of reach but unfortunately his shot from 12 yds out was saved by the keeper!! That seemed to ignite our oppo and give them a glimmer of hope but I still felt comfortable as we were dealing with their long ball game very well. After what must of been Sohams 20th long throw into our box they got there reward on 88 mins!! I was very disappointed and frustrated with the goal as initially we failed to clear the ball from the throw properly and when the cross came back in there forward got himself in front of our defender.

The next couple of minutes I can only describe as dreadful!! We have been in this position numerous times this season and the players have been told time after time!! Week after week how to deal when this situation arises. But instead of relaxing, keeping possession or making sure our clearances go into row z or preferably out of the ground they sat back and let them get cross after cross into our box!! Our clearances were non existent and our attempts at keeping possession were quite simply awful. On the 90 min mark yet another failed clearance was picked up and delivered into our box and with the last kick of the game Sohams player tapped home from about 3 foot out. So we managed to turn what would have been an excellent win and 3 points into (on paper) a credible draw! Although I’ve got to say at the time I didn’t quite see

it like that !! As usual our faithful few supported us at the game and the players along with myself,Tony,Darran & Carly thank each and everyone 1 of you. Today’s game will be another tough test for the boys and I’ve no doubt it will be a very different style of game from last week’s game away at Soham where the pitch resembled a ploughed field. GWR have a reputation as a club that always produces teams that play football the right way so I’m looking forward to today’s game very much. Please give us your usual terrific home support - “Come on you Mead!” Come on you Mead! Terry Spillane First-team Manager

THE BOARDROOM

PAUL

BOWDENBROWN

May I welcome the officials, players and supporters of Great Wakering Rovers to our home at SCT this Saturday afternoon, and hope after an enjoyable game and refreshments they all have a safe journey home. Whilst writing these notes I am advised that we are in for a very cold spell, well anyone that travelled to our game last Saturday to Sohom Town Rangers FC will know what cold weather was as it was freezing throughout the Saturday afternoon. When we arrived we found a friendly welcome but when you looked at the pitch you could fully understand how they had had no games played on it for 2 weeks, it resembled a ploughed field with the goal areas just mud mostly frozen. Anyway the game went ahead thankfully after the cost of arranging a player’s coach, we played well in the first-half resulting in being 2 up at halftime, this remain at this score until the 88minute when our opponents scored and then on the 90th minute scored again leaving the game a draw. I accept they had not lost since December but in my opinion the unacceptable attitude of some players and substitutions were our downfall. So all I can say with regard to this match would be, should this type of display continues that makes our climb to the Play-off positions un-reachable I will

06

THAMESMEAD TOWN The Official Matchday Programme

have no alternative but to review the playing budget as I have no intention of supporting a wage bill prepared to be in the Play-offs at the end of this season. If the players are not going to earn their monies and the right to wear the club shirt, I have always said it’s not our divine right to not lose but it’s the way we drew this game that really annoys me so in a few words its totally up to them what my actions will be over the coming weeks. Two weeks ago I started negotiations with our landlords Peabody to see if we could agree either on a 5-year licence to continue using the SCT as our base and home after the conclusion of our existing 4-year licence in the next 2 years or more acceptable to the Football Club a 10-year licence. But it would seem that although I gave 100% commitment to the Trust and Peabody early last year when I personally took full control of the club to ensure that we as a football club would continue to use the SCT as our Home, not only for the first-team, but the youth set-up and more importantly in my opinion the Academy’s for the foreseeable future, something they requested if we were to work together as partners for the future.

But it would seem during these recent discussions with their senior representatives that they cannot mirror my commitment at this time due to themselves not knowing what the future may hold at the end of our existing licence in 2 years. The Trust say it is all due to the recent amalgamation of the Trust to the Peabody Group and new budgets being agreed and the Peabody Trust insisting that rather than being subsidised the SCT must stand on its own during this current financial year, something I fully accept is a major factor in business terms. This as you can imagine has all come as a great revelation to me because at my monthly management meetings with Senior Management of the Trust my discussions on the subject of the possibility of a 5 or 10-year licence was accepted in principle and in good faith. But it would seem since our last meeting at the end of October before I went into hospital all has changed and my words have fallen on deaf ears after me explaining in detail that to ensure the financial stability of this club I need to know what the future charges and length of contract available to the club

THE BOARDROOM

would be given in the future. So that I can plan well ahead and by having these plans in force we can, firstly attract new investors because it is a foolish thought to think that this club would survive without my personal investment that covers ALL the costs of running the club and ensuring my first-team manager has a budget acceptable to him to cover the whole costs of running the squad we have here at the club. Ensuring that we continue to have a vibrant youth set-up, we continue to coach within the community and especially ensuring we support financially the hard work Ian Docker has put in to ensure the academy is run much more professionally and available to a bigger market catchment area than it was under the previous regime and to at least work to break even and not run at a considerable loss. I have also committed myself and the club into long contracts with third parties because I assumed incorrectly that we would be here for a further 5 years after the remaining 2 years at least but in 5yr periods of contracts. But due to the Trust not being able to confirm or discuss this possibility I have this uncertainty, and all I receive at this time as a result of my meetings is a comment if you want to have an extension you need to provide a plan to show both the Trust and Peabody of our commitments and plans for the future, of course I could do this. I have an updated 5 year business plan as of January of this year with budgets in place but they are only bits of paper, I would have also thought my personal actions over the last 12 months have showed to all that I have taken on the personally responsibility of running the club, financing it, re-organising the previous out dated structure, and finally committed to bring new investment to the club to ensure it can continue to offer all of its services that the club offer

as well as the local community would have been sufficient but it would seem not by the actions of the Trust. I feel that in any business you must be able to forecast for the future and I feel 2 years is not an acceptable period for the club to run its business.

the existing Membership Limited Company (Non Shareholding) to a new company that has been formed as a Shareholding Company but as you would expect due to FA rules and regulations you have to jump through hoops.

So there you have it I have made a concrete commitment but for whatever reason it would seem that I cannot negotiate a long period of licence here at SCT with our Landlords for whatever genuine reason.

I wish the big boys in Football Administration would remember Non-league football clubs that suffer from small gate revenue like us, and are also work as a major party within the community, only survive by the generosity of owners.

I feel so strongly about it that I am considering making representation direct to Mr Stephen Burns responsible for this area and the CEO OF Peabody Group Stephen Howlett so they can hear the information I have been given by Trust Management and can confirm or deny it and maybe explain why it would seem they are not prepared to enter into discussions on this matter, and I will fully explain that the long term future and financial stability of the club is in danger because at this time the club and its operation totally relies on my financial goodwill and if I cannot interest investors due to the lack of tenure all is at risk. I suppose my question will be I want to know why they do not seem to want TTFC here playing at the SCT, I cannot believe it makes business sense to lose the revenue we give them yearly some 400% more than we were paying the Trust 2 years ago by having a licence with them to play at the SCT. But maybe there is another reason that I have not been made party too, we shall have to wait and see, but whatever happens I will continue to honour my commitment given 2 years ago and that the club continues its operations bringing youth players through to our academy and then onto our first-team. Another initiative that I am in the process of auctioning and will continue with to try and give the club that bit more of a financial stability is to transfer

Well I will continue to work tirelessly to achieve our aims for this fine club, because there are far too many people that rely on me on and off the field, together with our great small band of loyal supporters and volunteers. So yes I’m disillusioned at this time with my landlords understanding of the football business but I am not down and out at this time, as many of you will know I am a fighter, I may have lost a fight but not the war and I will continue to ensure we try and mirror the success Terry and the boys are having on the pitch at this time. As I have always said the SCT is our home and I have had a valued working history with our Landlords especially their local management together with their continued support to both myself and the club on and off the field and whilst I have a breath left in my body I will try and ensure I can come to a acceptable compromise with our Landlords that will ensure the current concerns are only a blip in the history of our club and we can agree a way forward for the benefit of both parties. Now let’s enjoy the game this Saturday afternoon. Paul Bowden-Brown Chairman & Managing Director

CARLY’S CORNER

CARLY’S

CORNER

In her regular column this year first-team physio Carly Payne brings us up to date with the current injury list... Good evening all and welcome to Bayliss Avenue… It’s the third home game of 2016 for us tonight and we hope to get another winning run underway. It was a disappointing result for us away to Harlow, which saw us lose 1-0 not a true reflection of the game at all! With our games Redbridge, Maldon& Tiptree and Tilbury we were all at the club for training, after a great session we go into tonight’s game focused and ready to pick up 3 points. On the injury front I’m pleased to report we still have a fully fit squad. Hoppo was given a boost last week when he was discharged by his surgeon following his cruciate ligament reconstruction in August.

He has been given the all clear to return to training, we will now work hard to get him back hopefully to play a part in our push for promotion this season. I hope you all enjoy the game. Carly Payne First Team Physio

THE OPPOSITION

GREAT WAKERING ROVERS

CLUB INFO Nickname: Rovers Founded: 1919 Ground: Burroughs Park Chairman: Tony Butcher Manager: Dan Trenkel Last Season: 15th

Great Wakering Rovers recently ended their three game losing run with a credible 0-0 draw with second placed Cray Wanderers. The club then consolidated this result with a 1-0 win over lowly Redbridge, which coincidently was their first win in nine games - a run which stretched back to late November. Sitting in 15th, Rovers have played the most games in the division with 31 and have picked up 33 points in the form of eight wins, nine draws and fourteen losses. Their problems rest in large to their defence which has shipped in 68 - ranked third worst in the league behind only Redbridge and Barkingside. The Mead will want a return to action following an array of postponements. A win today could see the club rise about Dereham Town should results go their way.

THAMESMEAD TOWN The Official Matchday Programme

THE OPPOSITION

CLUB HISTORY The club was formed in 1919 by soldiers demobbed after World War I and finding employment in the local brickfields. They first played in the Southend & District League, where they played until 1982, being the league’s most dominant club especially in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1982 they switched to the newly formed Southend & District Alliance Football League, but this league folded in 1989. At this point the club decided to make the step up to intermediate level and join the Essex Intermediate League. They remained in this league for three seasons, winning the championships of Divisions Three and Two in successive seasons, after the latter of which they successfully applied to join the Essex Senior League. They were league champions in 1994-95 and were league runners-up three times in the subsequent four seasons. On the last of these occasions they finished in second place behind Saffron Walden Town, but as the latter club failed to meet the ground grading requirements for a place in the Isthmian League, Great Wakering Rovers were promoted in their place, gaining a place in Isthmian League Division Three for the 1999-00 season. At the first attempt they were promoted to Division Two, then moved to Division One North in 2002 due to league reorganisation. Further reorganisations saw them

switched to the Southern Football League Eastern Division for two seasons, but in 2006 they were switched back to Isthmian League Division One North. The 2009-2010 season brought a record number of points for the Rovers at Ryman League level, 64, but towards the end of the season manager Iain O’Connell took over at Ryman Premier side Margate leaving assistant Ryan Wilkinson and physio Cleve Taylor to take over temporary control with 12 games to go. During the close season of 2010, Ryan and Cleve were made joint managers with Danny Heath being promoted from reserve team manager to first team coach to join a new management team. During the 2011-2012 season, after a poor run of results, Ryan Wilkinson and Cleve Taylor decided that it was time to move on and resigned, leaving coach Danny

Heath as Caretaker Manager. After a short period where new managers were interviewed, Danny Greaves was installed as manager and took charge for his first game on 29th October 2011, but saw his side lose 2-0 away at Leiston. Unfortunately, Danny’s reign wouldn’t last long as his side would lose 6 games in 6, scoring 4 and conceding 21, leaving Danny with no option than to resign. Once again Danny Heath would take over as Caretaker Manager although Dan Trenkel would be installed as the new Player-Manager within two games. Trenkel, a Rovers youth and reserve player, joined the first team for his debut on the 4th April 2001, has played over 300 games for the club and immediately made a start on shoring up the frail defence which had conceded 52 goals before his arrival. Dan Trenkel remains in charge of the Rovers, instilling a new sense of belief into his side.

THE ACADEMY

THE

ACADEMY

Good luck to Terry and the lads this afternoon! Well the Christmas break is over and the lads have been back in for a couple of weeks now and have been put through their paces with some tough running sessions and high intensity small sided games. Last week, we got back to playing with one team travelling to play Charlton Athletic Trust, whilst the home game saw us facing Lewes.

12

THAMESMEAD TOWN The Official Matchday Programme

The lads were really looking forward to getting stuck in and showing what they can do between now and the end of season. They returned with one win and one defeat which really wasn’t that bad! Sadly due to illness - which laid low many of the boys as well as myself and Mike as well - we’ve had a stuttering week, with just one game played and that was a narrow defeat at Bromley. Hopefully back to normal next week with the home game being against Margate on Wednesday at 1:00pm...

It’s a busy time for everyone involved in the academy as we’re preparing for the first of our trials in just a few weeks time on the 15th of February and anyone interested please feel free to apply - full details are on our flyer which you’ll find on the inside of the back cover of today’s programme! Yours in sport! Ian Docker Academy Manager

FROM THE SECRETARY’S DESK

FROM THE SECRETARY’S DESK May I offer a warm welcome to our visitors today Great Wakering Rovers, I hope they enjoy their short stay at the STC. Our season continues to splutter along last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Soham Town was definitely points dropped that one gained, two goals in the final minutes robbed us of a must needed win. At this point of the season it is now a must to put a run of wins together to force your way into the Play-off zone, the leadership of the

league is now in AFC Sudbury’s hands, Cray Wanderers who led the table for most of the season have dropped points recently and now sit second , Hornchurch and Thurrock continue to put pressure on the top two. Within our own side this week we gained International Clearance for Phillipe Blaetter a promising youngster who has been playing in Germany so he should feature in today’s squad. Jose Figaro has been released to play in Portugal but other than that it has been a quiet period regarding comings

and goings for us. On Tuesday we face a difficult visit to Haringey Borough, this is the third time we have tried to play this fixture! so please keep an eye on the Club website for updates on the game regarding any postponement. Next Saturday we make the short journey to play Romford. Enjoy today’s game. Dave Joy Club Secretary

HARLOW TOWN

0

THAMESMEAD

Dadson (68)

Tuesday 5th January 2016 | Ryman League Division One North | The Harlow Arena | Att: 176

Despite a battling performance by the Mead, they returned empty handed from their Tuesday night trip to Harlow Town courtesy of Junior Dadson’s 20th goal of the season. The game had began with both sides wary of the other. Read had the first chance of the game for the home side only for Walks to pull off a fine low save. The Mead’s first opportunity was made and fell to unlikely sources as Farai’s pinpoint long free kick was missed by Gordon, only for Gorbs to be denied by a brilliant Sonko block. Walks then pulled of an amazing block to deny Read again – this time Mead’s keeper stood big and firm as the Harlow striker burst through before the half ended with Melaugh’s

driven cross flying across the face of the visitors goal eluding all when any touch would have surely opened the scoring. The home side upped the anti at the start of the second half forcing the Mead onto the back foot as Eadie sent a swinging drive from 25 yards too far right of the visitors left post. Dadson then gave the home side the lead, before the striker was denied a second almost immediately after. The Mead suddenly realised that they were behind and finally got into gear and it was from another long free kick that the Mead threatened again as it caused chaos in the home defence as home keeper Hughes went flapping only for the ball to drop where no green shirt was positioned before the home side scrambled the ball clear. Moments later another free kick, this

time from Matt Mitchell was nodded back by Vinesy arriving at the far post only for the ball to drop agonisingly between three green shirts as the home side hacked the ball to safety. Dadson then should have doubled Harlow’s advantage but somehow managed to head Benjamin’s wonderful cross over the Mead bar. Matt had the Mead’s last chance as time expired but his free-kick flew high over the bar and out of the ground as the Mead sank to our first defeat in six games and lose just a little ground in the Play Off race. January with its nine games scheduled could well prove decisive for the Mead’s hopes – one win and one defeat isn’t a bad start but Terry and the rest of the management team know full well that the year’s first month needs to be a successful one!

THAMESMEAD

Lawton (88), Paterson (90)

Fairweather-Johnson (24), Butler (38)

Saturday 16th January 2016 | Ryman League Division One North | Julius Martin Lane | Att: 110

On a freezing Cambridgeshire afternoon, two goals in the final minutes denied the Mead three points and a much needed three points against a Soham side beaten just once since the start of December. What was most frustrating for the Mead was that the goal gave Soham fluidity and urgency that had previously been lacking as they repeated their come from behind “success” of the previous week against Cheshunt, by levelling deep into stoppage time and denying the Mead. After a cautious start from both sides the Mead took the lead on 24 minutes. Paul Vines sent a thumping header against the home bar and Theo reacted quickest to poke the ball home.

Vinesy was then released in behind the home back line only to be denied by the keepers legs before just a handful of minutes later the lead was doubled. A super ball into Tyrus Gordon-Young saw the Mead’s top scorer bundled over in the box by Sharman and despite home protests that the “first offense” had come from Tyrus, but referee Cartmel pointed to the spot. Up stepped Butts to coolly score. The Mead began the second half again creating the better chances but without really testing Lawton in the home goal which in the end was to prove decisive. The home side got more and more on top as the half went on and it was only some very stubborn defending from the Mead that kept the lead in tact.

When the back line was breached, Andy Walker showed why many regard him in the highest esteem. And when Walks was “beaten” the home sides targeting system was somewhat array! It looked like the Mead would hold on until two minutes from time a cross into the box was finally not dealt with properly and Lawton swept the ball home to give the home side unexpected late hope. Sadly the lesson wasn’t learned and as Swinton crossed, the ball ricocheted around the visitors box and after one block, the ball fell to Patterson who gleefully levelled the score. An unbeaten away trip but one of the most frustrating possible where the trip back to home base felt like a defeat rather than a possible point that could yet prove vital.

TRAVELLER’S TALES

The travels of a Thamesmead Town away supporter...

After Boxing Day’ing at Phoenix Sports v Cray Wanderers followed by VCD v Tonbridge Angels, we woke on Boxing Day x 2 (or Bank Holiday Monday) anticipating a trip to our “favourite” club – Aveley. A strangely appointed 2pm kick-off meant leaving at 12ish to pick up Johnno round the corner, before a trip to Eltham and a liaison with Tiddles, en route to our short venture on the M25 and through “the pipe”. Congestion on the M25 meant us 20

The carvery is freshly prepared and offers a choice of three succulent meats carved by their friendly chefs, temptingly displayed alongside a wide range of seasonal vegetables and homemade Yorkshire puddings. At the bar you can choose from a superb selection of cask ales from Marston’s’ five breweries, a great wine list featuring choices from the distinguished Rothschild wineries, as well as an impressive range of ciders, soft drinks and spirits.

NON-LEAGUE PAPER

Sheridan Robins of the Non-League Paper discusses the hectic footballing calendar around Christmas and New Year... The busy footballing calendar over the festive period may be over but the New Year brings additional challenges and another one of the most hectic months in football. January consists of some clubs trying to offload players and others trying to lure starlets away to new challenges. We may only be a week in to 2016 but the transfers have already begun with some of the most sought after Non-League talent having moved on to pastures new. League One side Barnsley have snapped up Weston-super-Mare striker Bradley Ash on a two-year deal, in what is a career defining move for the 19-year-old. It is easy to see why Ash was scouted by a Football League side after his scintillating form for the National League South side. Having scored 14 goals in as many games for Weston, he also scored his first every hat-trick for the club and has made his way through the academy having joined aged 16. This is a proud moment for the club as he

24

becomes one of the most successful graduates of their academy. He made his debut in 2013 and has therefore experienced first team football for a prolonged period of time – a huge advantage at such a young age. No doubt the Seagulls will miss his goals but they will also be proud of the player they have developed. But Ash is not the only source of Non-League talent that has been noticed recently. Increasingly, clubs are seeing the potential of youngsters and Premier League Norwich City are no different. They secured the signing of Dulwich Hamlet midfielder Diallang Jaiyesim as a second-year scholar for the Canaries academy side. Having joined the club for an undisclosed fee, the potential that the Under-18s have seen in the attacking player shows just how much talent there is in the Non-League game. The 17-year-old may have only made five appearances for Hamlet’s first team but the Ryman Premier high-flyers have developed a player

who has caught the eye of a Premier League side. The move will hopefully result in a prosperous career in fulltime football. With so many headlines dominated by former Non-League starlet and now Premier League joint top scorer, Jamie Vardy, perhaps there will be another fairytale story in 2016. Let’s hope so because this sometimes “infamous” transfer window can throw up some moves that show the obscene amount of money that is transferred at the highest level of the game. It seems every year, there is a record fee for a player exchanged and it is no longer a shock. But already, we have seen Non-League players given the chance at a higher level. Following their careers with interest is surely a lot more rewarding for lovers of the grass-roots game – rather than how much Real Madrid may over pay for their latest goal scorer! Although, one question that will be on everyone’s lips – will Vardy be lured away from surprise title contenders Leicester? I like to think not.

COMMERCIAL CORNER

COMMERCIAL NEWS

with Mike Green

Good afternoon everyone and welcome our visitors to the SCT today from Great Wakering Rovers. Our last game here was the first competitive game we’ve ever played against our near neighbours from Phoenix, and what a great game the two sets of players served up thankfully we edged a five goal cracker to keep in contention, and I have no doubt that if we keep up our great home form we could well be well in the mix in twenty games time at the end of the season! Back to today and after being postponed because our game with Maldon was rained off, today’s than is finally the day for the 2016 NEW YEAR DRAW - a huge thank you to everyone who has entered and everyone who has donated prizes. The draw will take place after the game this afternoon, and a full list of prize-winners will be listed on the club website tomorrow Sunday, with the same list being available at our next home game against AFC SUDBURY on February 5th - as well as being in the match programme that day. We’re in the final stages of confirming the details for the Clubs GOLF DAY that will be held on the Spitfire Course at the WEST MALLING GOLF CLUB on THURSDAY 17th MARCH. We’ll have coffee and bacon roll(s) upon

arrival followed by 18 holes of golf before a two course meal with the usual prize giving and raffles - we’re still confirming actual timings but we’re hoping for a first tee time between 9:30am and 10:00am - we’re hoping to finalise prices too at a fee of no more that £35.00 for the day! If you’d like further details and don’t want to wait until our next home game, drop me an email - headed TTFC GOLF DAY - and I’ll forward them to you asap!

on to pastures new at the end of the month - pastures that we hope wont keep him too far from the SCT on matchdays. Behind the scenes Chris has been a great help in our community efforts, and I hope that we can form just as strong a bond with his successor.

We’ll shortly too be announcing some special offers for the rest of the season, so keep checking the clubs website and our social media feeds over the coming days.

If your company would like to sponsor a forthcoming home game, please see Greenie TODAY or contact him on commercialttfc@live.co.uk or alternatively 07845 751319

Cheers and enjoy the game! Greenie

Don’t forget that the club shop is open as usual today so why not treat yourself? From me a personal thank you to PC Chris Molnar, our local PC, who’s here this afternoon in an official capacity for the last time as he moves THAMESMEAD TOWN vs Great Wakering Rovers

THE CLEAN SHEET CHALLENGE

CLEAN SHEET CHALLENGE

10

CLEAN SHEET TOTAL Following the success of last season’s Clean Sheet Challenge, the club is delighted that once again this season we are seeking your support to raise money for charity, but this year we’re doing it for two charities rather than just one! Last season, Rob Budd and Vicente Mansanet between them kept 14 clean sheets as we raised money for Cancer Research UK – the final total will be revealed soon, and it is worth waiting for! Throughout this season, we’re delighted once again to be working with our friends from Cancer Research, but we will also be raising funds for London’s Air Ambulance, the registered charity that delivers an advanced trauma team to critically injured people in London in a bright red helicopter! We’ll learn more about what the LAA do in an upcoming programme. If you want to contribute - and we hope that you will - we’re in the process of setting up a Just Giving web page for this season, or alternatively there’s always the old fashioned way of filling out the sponsorship form that you’ll find in the boardroom! 34
