THE MANAGER
THE MANAGER
STEVE HOUSHAM May I welcome the officials, players and supporters of Bradford Park Avenue to the Eon Visual Media Stadium this afternoon, and I hope after an enjoyable game everyone has a safe journey home. Hello and welcome back for a home game having spent the last two matches away. I would like to welcome Mark Bower and his Bradford Park Avenue side for today’s game. I’m not really going to talk about our previous games, as it will feel like going over the same things from previous weeks. What I will discuss, though, is what myself, Darryn and the group have been working on and trying to solve our problems. We have been working harder with the players to drill into them the importance of working hard no matter how the game is going. We need to make sure we work hard for each other, but a key factor we have been working on is the team spirit. Last season we had one of the best team spirits I have seen in a squad and it helped us get a lot of points. Yes we have a new set of lads this season and a lot of them are young, but some are very quiet and sometimes frightened. But we have worked on that and hopefully we can pick up some valuable points with great togetherness and spirit.
I don’t just mean the players we, as a club, need to show that togetherness and fight all the way in a positive manner. Finally, I hope we all observe a minute silence for all those brave heroes from the war and we thank them for their bravery. Wear a poppy with pride and enjoy the game. THE CAPTAIN
THE CAPTAIN Welcome to the Eon Visual Media Stadium as we take on Bradford Park Avenue in the National League North. The AFC Telford United match was really disappointing and hard to take, especially at home. We just wasn’t good enough all over the pitch and that can’t happen again. We then went to Leamington and, without sounding stupid, we actually performed quite well. The game was very even with Ross hardly having anything to do apart from pick the ball out of his net three times, with two of them being penalties. But it was the daft errors to concede the penalties and again from a long throw that ultimately cost us which, at the end of the day, is what obviously counts. Then we went to Southport after a good week’s training and Steve Housham changed the formation and we performed well and could have easily got all three points. The game was end-to-end with both teams having good chances to grab the win, so a draw in the end I think was a fair result. Going into Bradford today, we have to build on our last performance and show the same spirit and make it really difficult for them. We just need that one win at home that can kick start us and hopefully help us build some momentum going into Christmas. Thanks again to the fans that keep showing up to support us we really appreciate it Stephen Brogan First-Team Captain

BRADFORD PARK AVENUE
North Ferriby United return to the Eon Visual Media Stadium after two away days to take on a Bradford Park Avenue side on the cusp of the play-off places. Park Avenue currently sit 10th in the table with 23 points from 17 games, knowing a victory could take them as high as sixth if results go in their favour. Last time out the club comfortably beat Blyth Spartans 4-1 on home soil after goals from Wayne Brooksby, Oli Johnson, Jamie Spencer and Adam Boyes. Mark Bower had previously placed onus on bad luck for some of Avenue’s recent shortcomings, but witnessed his side develop a clinical edge to take advantage of
Blyth’s defensive fragilities. The result was a fine display against a Spartans side who, at the time of playing, were flying high in third. Speaking after the game boss Mark Bower said: “It’s a great result and a deserved one because we played as well as we had done at Harrogate and at home to Salford last week. “This time we got the rewards for our efforts and we could have won it by more really because we continued to create chances. The club, though, have been hit and miss during the month of October, failing to win a game, but picking up a point against Kidderminster Harriers, Harrogate Town, before losses to Darlington and Salford City. BRADFORD PARK AVENUE
RECENT HISTORY
Bradford Association Football Club was formed in 1907 and used Park Avenue to distinguish itself from Bradford City and Bradford Northern RLFC. It was unsuccessful in its application to join the Football League in 1907 but after playing a season in the Southern League joined the Second Division of the Football League in 1908. On 3 May 1974 the shareholders agreed to liquidate the company with debts of £57,652. Supporters then registered the name as a company and began again in the Bradford Amateur Sunday League Division Four. After playing at Bingley Road and Hope Avenue in 1974 the club moved to Avenue Road and won promotion for the first time in 1975. The next season saw promotion again and in 1985 came promotion into the newly formed Bradford Sunday Alliance League. In 1987 the club returned to play a season at Park Avenue and in 1988 they joined the West Riding County Amateur League. The following season, Avenue were admitted into the Supreme Division of the Central Midlands League after one season into the North West Counties League. Third place in the first season in the North West Counties League was enough to gain promotion to the top flight where they had mixed fortunes for 3 seasons. The 1994-95 season saw Avenue create an upset when, 20 points adrift of Clitheroe with just 13 matches left, they took the title by four points. After three season’s groundsharing, Bradford now play at the Horsfall Stadium. Since the turn of the millennium, Bradford won only the third championship in its 94 year history, when the Unibond League First Division was won by a clear ten points to gain promotion to Premier Division of the Northern Premier League. Having spent time establishing themselves as a top-half side in the NPL, the club faced a challenge in 2004 to gain a place in the newly-formed Conference North. Long-serving manager Trevor Storton resigned with the club secondbottom, but his replacement Carl Shutt pulled together a string of fine results to get the club into the play-offs for the final promotion position. Seemingly against all the odds, Avenue won the play-off against Burscough to claim their place in the inaugural season of Conference North. However the club spent just one season at the level as they were relegated back to the NPL in 2005, and the slide continued as Bradford were relegated to the Unibond League Division One.
The club looked one of the favourites to gain promotion, but a sticky spell through winter and yet another managerial change saw Bradford lose in the play-offs. Yet another change came at the helm in February 2008, as Dave Cameron arrived from Rhyl. Cameron manager to change the club’s fortunes around, however, as nine victories in a row saw Avenue win the Division One North title. However Cameron resigned in November, with John Deacey taking over the manager’s position on a temporary basis. Deacey was handed the manager’s role on a permanent basis for the first time in October 2009. However it was a campaign of agony as Avenue missed out on the title by a point, before losing to Boston in the play-off final at the Horsfall Stadium. Deacey resigned but was soon re-appointed for a second crack of the whip, but the club failed again, losing to FC United of Manchester in the play-off semi-final. However the club finally managed to return to the Conference North in 2012, as a Tom Greaves goal in the last minute of extra time saw Deacey’s side defeat FC United in the play-off final. An impressive season back at that level saw Avenue finish seventh in the league, just outside the play-offs. 2014-15 saw Avenue seriously relegation threatened as they dropped into the bottom three on Boxing Day but after being taken over by Gareth Roberts the club finished 13th. Deacey agreed to depart the club at the end of the season and Drury took charge at the age of just 29. However, 2015-16 didn’t go to plan and Drury agreed to leave the club with the team placed in lowly 17th. Darren Edmondson was immediately brought in with the pair steering the club to safety, and as Edmondson moved on, his assistant Alex Meechan took charge. The club was officially ratified as a Community Benefit Society, and became Bradford Park Avenue Community Football Club in 2016. Change was heralded with a modernised club badge, before a board of directors is elected midway through the 2016-17 season. The summer of 2016 saw the first team struggled at the start of the season, and Meechan was relieved of his first team duties having failed to win any of his 12 games in charge. Former Bradford City defender Mark Bower was appointed the new Avenue manager in September. He led the club to an unbelievable escape as somehow he steered his side clear of relegation, with the form of a team in the play-off places. NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme

VIEW FROM THE STANDS by Sam Shepherd Welcome to the Eon Visual Media Stadium where today we take on Bradford Park Avenue. Today’s game is massively important and one we simply have to win. Ferriby are eight points adrift at the bottom of the table and need to start finding some wins soon to start bridging the gap. It’s been a very difficult season so far, but we have to try and find some positives to build on moving forward. Last week’s game at Southport is something Steve Housham will be looking to take something from. Ferriby took the lead, before falling behind, fortunately the impressive Kuda Muskwe popped up with an equaliser late on to earn Ferriby a valuable point. With the way results have gone so far this season you may have expected Ferriby to crumble when they went behind, but they showed great character to get back into the game and get a result. Unfortunately Ferriby are already in the position were draws aren’t really good enough especially in home games and today is a must win without a doubt. Ferriby have been involved in a couple of high-scoring draws recently, so the ability to score goals is certainly there for Housham’s side, 22

but they need to stop conceding so many goals if they are to start picking up wins. Muskwe has been an excellent loan signing and if he can keep his run of goalscoring form going we will have a chance of picking up some wins. Today’s opponents had been enduring a torrid run of form themselves until last time out when they recorded an impressive 4-1 home win over Blyth Spartans. Away from home though they have struggled all season and Ferriby have to look to exploit that. PA don’t keep many clean sheets, so chances should be there for Ferriby to score, the big question will be can they keep their opponents at bay for 90 minutes? A clean sheet would be invaluable in a game like this, but that is something Ferriby have found very hard to come by so far this season. Can that change today? With no Hull City game today, I would hope to see some of their supporters attending the game today and hopefully they will leave impressed by a hard-working winning performance that could finally spark Ferriby into life. Enjoy the game! Sam Shepherd North Ferriby United Supporter
