STOCKSBRIDGE PARK STEELS North Ferriby United begin their defence of the FA Trophy with a home game against Stocksbride Park Steels.
The Villagers must be vary of their lower league opponents with every team the club encounter wanting to knock the holders out of the competition. Plying their trade in the Evo-Stik First Division South, the Steels sit comfortably in midtable having picked up 22 points from their 14 games this season. Their standing doesn’t reflect the side with the club having as much as six games in hand over teams above them meaning they could well find themselves in the mix for the play-offs when they clear their fixture back log. Coming into the fixture the visitors will be full of confidence having now gone unbeaten in eight games - their last defeat coming in a 3-2 defeat away to Carlton Town. The Steels reached this stage of the competition by beating Ilkeston over two legs. The first ending in a 1-1 draw but the replay saw Stocksbridge run out 3-2 winners.

Stocksbridge Park Steels
CLUB HISTORY Stocksbridge Park Steels was created in 1986 with the merger of Stocksbridge Works F.C. and another Stocksbridge Club Oxley Park Sports F.C. Stocksbridge Works had the ground and only one team and Oxley Park had three teams and no ground. In the early years 1986-91 the new Club ploughed all its resources into the Bracken Moor Stadium so as to meet ground grading criteria and enable the Club to rise through the nonleague pyramid system.
Team Manager and Assistant in February 1991 heralded a period of success to rival the works in the 1950/1964 period. Under Mick and Trevor, Steels started their run to the present Unibond League. 1993/4 saw steels win Premier division of the NCEL, but Steels celebrations were cut short when the ground improvements necessitated were not at an advanced enough state to allow Steels to take place in the Unibond League. The following
There was an opening of a social club, refurbishment to the dressing rooms, erection of floodlights, the building of new stand and extension to the social club new canteen area, making the ground the best junior stadium in South Yorkshire, which currently hosts 8 to 9 Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA Finals. season Steels finished in 3rd place and in 1995/96 they were runners up to Hatfield Main and gained promotion to the Unibond First Division. Steels made steady progress in the first five seasons in the Unibond League, with the highest placed position of 4th achieved in 2000/01. In 2002 Wayne Biggins was subsequently appointed Player/ Manager after a short spell as Assistant Manager, with Graham Furness as Assistant. In the
2002/03 season, Paul Jackson, equalled an FA Cup record of ten goals in one game, during the Steels 17-1 thrashing of Oldham Town. Steels had their best FA Cup run in the 2003/2004 season reaching the fourth qualifying round eventually losing away at Shildon In November 2003 Peter Rinkcavage was appointed as Manager from Gainsborough Trinity with Paul Bradshaw as Assistant with Jason Maybury, taking over from Bradshaw in 2004. A good season followed in 2005/2006 with the Steels, just missing out on promotion after losing to Kendal in the play-offs. In the 2006/2007 season Steels missed out on a play-off position after being in the top three in 90% of the season. But the team finished the season on a high note beating local rivals Worksop Town in the Sheffield
senior cup final at Hillsborough. This was to be the last game, with Peter Rinkcavage in charge. He along with assistant Jason Maybury, left to join Worksop Town in the summer of 2007. Gary Marrow, along with his assistant Mark Ogley was appointed manager before the start of the 2007/2008 season, with former player Gary Ingham taking over from Ogley midway through the season. In his First season at the club, Marrow steered them to a credible 5th place losing to local rivals Sheffield F.C. in the play-off semi-final.
roller coaster debut season in the Unibond premier league, 10 games into the season while his team were top of the league, manager Gary Marrow resigned. Former Steels player Simon Collins took over but unfortunately his tenure didn’t last long. Reserve manager Steve Shutt took over and guided Steels to an excellent 11th place. The 2010/11 season started with the return of Gary Marrow as manager. Gary Marrow resigned just before Christmas during the 2011/12 season and was replaced with Chris Willcock, Darren Schofield was appointed his assistant.
2008/09 was a fabulous season for Gary Marrows team, having finished third in Unibond League Division 1 South they won the play-off final against Derbyshire rivals Belper Town 1-0 and were promoted to the Unibond Premier league for the first time in the club’s history.
Willcock’s second season in charge didn’t start well and he was replaced by his assistant Darren Schofield who brought in the experienced defender Brett Lovell as his number two. Once again Stocksbridge managed to avoid relegation but again it went down to the wire.
Steels supporters were in for a
The 2013/14 season started on a high with an exciting victory over Droylsden but from then on the Steels struggled, spending most of the season in the relegation zone. The club and long serving player/manager Darren Schofield parted company at the end of the season. Former Worsborough Bridge manager Chris Hilton was appointed the new boss for the 2014/15 season. Chris immediately brought in the former Emley midfielder Mark ‘Willy’ Wilson as his assistant and experienced former Barnsley defender Ryan Laight as player coach.

Sam Elliott of the The NLP talks about the pitfalls of the paracute payments... We’ve all met one of them. You know, the person who thinks they are being really helpful but ultimately they are just creating chaos for everyone else. That’s exactly how most of NonLeague football feels about the Football League right now.
On one hand, more money is being injected into the lower levels. That’s always a positive, except it’s coming to just two clubs in the form of parachute payments – and the fear is that everyone else is going to get left lagging behind. That’s paraphrasing, and, as it happens, putting it quite nicely. Two leading figures within the league are frankly foaming at the mouth. The issue is that the Football League, with a fair element of self-congratulation, announced that those clubs relegated from League Two will be coming down with an additional £500,000 in their back pocket. Those joining the Conference will now fall with £474,000 in their first season, and in their second season they will also have £237,000 planted into their accounts. Nice.
Riches, many feel, earned for failure. A kick-back so juicy that Lee Harding, the longserving Braintree chairman, believes is almost a temptation to cut costs at Football League level and bank a nice cheque to come on down. Harding feels the situation will destroy the game at this level. The reason is a footballing one, clubs like his Braintree – eyeing a place in the 92 after building organically over a number of years – will have next to no chance of achieving their dreams. Neither will the likes of Dover, Gateshead or Woking – and those ex-League clubs still trying to get back up, Wrexham, Grimsby et al, are now up against it even more. North Ferriby United The Official Matchday Programme
National League clubs take in around only £40,000 for being a part of the league. That means whoever comes down will have a half-a-million head start. I watched Cheltenham for the first time last Tuesday and they were smashing. Guiseley had no answer as Gary Johnson’s side rolled them over 5-0. They made the point excellently. You don’t need a huge helping hand. Promotion needs to be earned. Fact is, if the Robins left their relegation another 12 months, they could afford over the two years they are enjoying these parachute payments, three more top class players for this level each season.
PLAYERS POPPING UP ALL OVER Be on the look out for North Ferriby United players in and around the area.
Pop-ups of Danny Emerton and Josh Wilde are already greeting visitors to the Holiday Inn Express in Hull city centre. The Holiday Inn Express is delighted to be supporting North Ferriby United.” Players will be popping up in numerous areas in the local area aiming to raise the profile of North Ferriby United. Sheridan Robins of the Non-League paper looks at the rise of Jamie Vardy... As we edge ever closer to the busy Christmas footballing calendar, the headlines just keep on coming for former Non-League starlet Jamie Vardy.
The ex-Stocksbridge Park Steels, FC Halifax and Fleetwood striker Vardy has made a remarkable impact on the Premier League having equalled former Manchester United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of goals in ten consecutive games. His tenth of the season signified that he was not just a one season wonder having played Non-League football just four years ago. Talent is often buried in the most unlikely of places. But in recent weeks Non-League football has been dealt a tough card – perhaps taking away from the influence Vardy has had on the search for emerging talent. Unsurprisingly, Football League clubs have voted in favour of increased parachute payments for clubs relegated from League Two in to the Conference. The cash that clubs receive is set to ascend at an alarming rate. An unbelievable £750,000 will be on offer, meaning that relegation will result in around £474,000 being handed out followed by a “mere” £237,000 during a club’s second year in the National
League. Not only does this sort of money draw parallels with clubs relegated from the Premier League (a sore subject for many football fans) but it allows clubs to readily spend in the notoriously “toughest” league to get out of. Cheltenham Town are sitting pretty at the top of the National League and, having been an established Football League club for sixteen seasons, have the credentials to get back in to League Two. Forest Green are certainly on Gary Johnson’s heels to book their first-ever place in the Football League and there will no doubt be more twists and turns as the season progresses. However, it begs the question of how long that will last with increased payments easing the blow of one of the biggest fears in football – relegation. North Ferriby United The Official Matchday Programme
Will we really have to rely on the FA Cup to provide us with excitement – although based on recent years that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Rising star stories including that of Stevenage Borough, Crawley Town, Yeovil Town and Dagenham and Redbridge – clubs who have progressed up the ladder – are at risk of becoming a distant memory. These clubs now all currently face the prospect of the drop from League Two and surely giving them a head start defeats the object of their past achievements? We should be nurturing talent like Vardy and enjoying the competitive football in all leagues, not letting money cause conflict and resentment. So whichever match you may be watching, look out for the next big name as talent can overrule money.

Two games, two different results, Sam Shepherd discusses the latest Ferriby games... The last two games have produced very contrasting results for Ferriby. Last Saturday I thought we were excellent when we dismantled Fylde who were sitting 2nd in the table going into the match. Ferriby scored in the second minute through Ash Palmer and didn’t look back. Fylde applied pressure in the first-half and missed a few chances but that was as good as it got for the west coast side. Ferriby completely dominated the second-half and Adam Bolder won a penalty in the 51st minute giving Liam King the opportunity to double the lead which he did with ease. Ferriby looked very comfortable at 2-0 but the best was yet to come. The ball broke to Danny Clarke in midfield, he manoeuvred his way into the box before being challenged by
a defender. The loose ball fell to Tom Denton who hit a first time curling shot into the right hand corner from the edge of the area. He is claiming it’s a goal of the season contender and it’s hard to disagree with him. Ferriby saw the rest of the game out to record a 3-0 win which moved them up into second in the table. After the excellence of the Saturday the visit of Nuneaton on Tuesday night brought us all back down to earth. Nuneaton sat top of the table however we had already knocked them out of the FA Cup at home this season so we knew it was possible to win. Nuneaton had other ideas and produced one of the best performances I have seen at our ground in 6 seasons supporting Ferriby. The best moment of the match for Ferriby came just before half-time when they scored an excellent goal to equalise. North Ferriby United The Official Matchday Programme
Liam King played an excellent cross field ball to Emerton who hit a first time cross to Denton who nodded it home. Nuneaton dominated the second-half and eventually found the winner they deserved despite some determined Ferriby defending. Ferriby now sit 6 points behind Nuneaton who I would not be surprised to see win the league. Today we begin the defence of the FA Trophy against Stocksbridge. Despite our opponents sitting two leagues below us this will not be an easy game because Stocksbridge would love to be able to say they knocked the holders of the cup out in the qualifying rounds. I expect a win but it will have to be earnt. Enjoy the game, Sam

North Ferriby United take on Chorley in the next away fixture looking to gain ground on Nuneaton Town at the top of the table.
Founded | 1883 Nickname | The Magpies Ground | Victory Park Capacity | 3,550 Manager | Matt Jansen
Heading into this fixture the Magpies sit in 9th place in the league nine points behind the Villagers in the Vanarama National League North. Chorley will want to address their recent run of form which has seen then pick up one point in their last three games. A 2-2 draw with Bradford Park Avenue was followed by consecutive defeats.
CLUB HISTORY Chorley Football Club were founded as a rugby union club in 1875 but switched to football in 1883. They have reached the FA Cup second round twice in 1986–87 and 1990–91. Their best performance in the FA Trophy was in 1995–96 when they reached the semi-final. They will play in the National League North for the 2015–16 season, after being promoted from Premier Division of the Northern Premier League in the 2013–14 season. Gerry Luczka succeeded ex-Everton, Bolton Wan-
derers and England Schoolboys player Paul Lodge as manager in October 2006. Gerry Luczka was succeeded by Tony Hesketh in February 2008, who resigned in April 2009 to manage Lancaster City.[1] Steve Waywell took charge for 2009–10 season, but following a poor end to the season he left the club by mutual consent and Garry Flitcroft, the former Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers player, was appointed to replace him. Garry had until just before the appointment been manager of rivals Leigh Genesis. Flitcroft promptly took the Magpies to promotion in the First Division North Play-offs in his first season in charge
