MANAGER’S COLUMN
STEVE
HOUSHAM
May I welcome the officials, players and supporters of Macclesfield Town to our home this afternoon, and I hope after an enjoyable game everyone has a safe journey home. Welcome to the Eon Visual Media Stadium as we take on Macclesfield Town in the National League. Having had two defeats on the bounce we could of gone into the Southport game feeling low on confidence, but that is my job to keep the spirits of the players high. I keep reminding them what a fantastic job they are doing and yet again it showed against Southport.
the players of course because we just didn’t perform on the day and they owe themselves and the fans a performance to hopefully get another three points on board. We also welcome two new players in the form of Matty Templeton (Barnsley) and Sam Cosgrove (Wigan) who have joined us on loan.
back as quick as possible. As I say to my players keep believing and enjoy the ride, hopefully you the fans are still enjoying it as much as we are it’s nearly the end of January and we are still in there with every chance to avoid the drop. I’ve said before we are not the only
We started on the front foot and got an early goal we fully deserved. From then on Southport did get on top of the game and got a goal back just after the break and they kept pressing us, but our young boys quickly turning into men. They put their bodies on the line and when we countered we was very lively and we got 4 goals for their efforts, but most of all a massive 3 points. Today we face Macclesfield and welcome them back for the second time. Are we looking for revenge from the FA Cup defeat? My answer would be no, I will be reminding
Both are young lads who have bright futures in the game they come in at a vital time as we have picked up a few injuries over the last couple of games. So hopefully Jordan Parkin (physio) can use his magic touch to get them
ones who make this team you the fans are in the team as well so be proud we keep this club flowing with pride and keep believing your support is amazing. Steve Housham First-Team Manager

THE VISITORS...
MACCLESFIELD TOWN
North Ferriby United welcome Macclesfield Town to the Eon Visual Media Stadium hoping to make it back-to-back victories... The Villagers are riding high on the crest of a confidence wave after beating Southport 4-2 - a victory which marked the first time since March that they have scored 4 in a league game. Goals from Reece Thompson, Connor Oliver, Curtis Bateson and Ryan Kendall ensured North Ferriby recorded their fourth away victory of the season. Their will also be a hint of revenge on the cards for the Villagers after today’s opponents knocked the club out of the FA Cup. Vinny Mukendi had give the Villagers a 1-0 lead after 45 seconds, but Town rallied and scored four times to dump out Ferriby. Town also picked up a victory over 4
NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme
Ferriby at Moss Rose, with Dan Whitaker’s 22nd-minute penalty the difference. Despite going down to 10-men shortly after, the Villagers couldn’t find an all important goal. In terms of current league form, the away side saw their four game wining run come to an abrupt end against Guiseley and saw their midweek fixture with Eastleigh postponed so will come into this clash relatively fresh. Ferriby’s great win over Southport was made all the more important given teams around them also picked up shock victories. Another victory today would further close the gap to safety.

CLUB HISTORY
CLUB HISTORY
MACCLESFIELD TOWN The beginnings of the club can be traced in part to the 8th Cheshire Rifle Volunteers who played their first match in 1873. The Olympic Cricket Club also played football in Macclesfield, and in October 1876 the two organisations amalgamated to form Macclesfield Football Club. Macclesfield FC became members of The Combination League for the 1890-91 season remaining until the end of the 1896-97 season when they had to withdraw due to financial difficulties. Macclesfield FC re-emerged for the 1900-01 season when they became members of the Manchester and District League, where they finished as champions in 1909 and 1911. Macclesfield were founder members of the Cheshire County League in 1919 winning the League Cup in 1925 and achieving the League and Cup double in 1932. They retained the title in 1933 and the post war years championship victories in 1953, 1961 and 1964. At the beginning of the 1968-69 season they became founder members of the Northern Premier League, topping the table 12 points clear of Wigan in their first season. The feat was repeated the following season when they also won the inaugural FA Trophy at Wembley against Telford United. In 1979 the club finished bottom of the Northern Premier League but returned to winning ways with the Cheshire Senior Cup in 1983. The 1986-87 season saw the Silkmen win the Northern Premier League and promotion to the Vauxhall Conference.
Sammy McIlroy, was appointed manager at the start of the 1993-94 season. The 1994-95 season saw the Silkmen win the Vauxhall Conference, heading the table from 5th November 1994 until the end of the season, but were denied promotion to the Football League due to ground criteria. Success under McIlroy continued with their greatest triumph to date came at the end of the 1996-97 season when they won the Vauxhall Conference by five points, having trailed by 15 points at one stage. On this occasion success was rewarded with promotion to the Football League. In the 15 years as a Football League Club, the Silkmen found themselves in a mid or lower table position. There was instant success in the 199798 season, when they finished as runners-up in the Nationwide League Division Three, gaining automatic promotion. Nevertheless, they found life in the Second Division difficult, and finished the 1998-99 Season in bottom place and were relegated for the first time in their history. In 2004-05 when the completed the season in fifth position, only to be beaten in the Play-off semi-final by Lincoln City. The Silkmen then faced some difficult years and never regained a top-half position. In their 2009-10 season, the Silkmen saw the sudden death of manager Keith Alexander in March 2010. Further tragedy hit the club almost twelve months later when midfielder Richard Butcher died in his sleep just a few days shy of his 30th birthday.
Despite this Gary Simpson led his team to a respectable 15th position in the league. The Silkmen were hit by numerous injuries throughout the 2011-12 season which impacted on their overall performance and, they finished bottom of League 2. Steve King was appointed manager in the summer of 2012 for the Silkmen’s first season back in nonLeague football. Playing attractive football they were often chasing a play-off position. Towards the end of the season King was dismissed with John Askey taking over as caretaker manager, the team completing the campaign in 11th position. John Askey was appointed manager in the summer of 2013 completing the season in 15th position in the league. The 2014/15 saw the Silkmen make a real challenge for promotion, spending much of the season in the top five before just missing out on a play-off place. Following on from their near miss, the Silkmen pushed for a top five finish again in the following season. Ultimately they fell just short again, but it was another season of real progression for Macclesfield. With the appointment of Steve Watson as the new assistant manager of the Silkmen as well as the retention of the majority of the playing squad from last season, everybody at Macclesfield Town will be hoping the 2016/17 campaign could mark a return to the fourth tier for the Silkmen.

LEAGUE ROUND-UP
LEAGUE REVIEW Lincoln City won 2-0 against Dover Athletic last Friday night to lead the Vanarama National League table by five points going into Saturday`s matches. A Tyrone Sterling own goal after 9 minutes and a late, 83rd minute second from Terry Hawkridge earned the Imps victory. However, second-placed Forest Green Rovers were only able to claw one of those points back as they were held to a draw by a well-organised Braintree Town side at the New Lawn on Saturday. Third-placed Tranmere Rovers and fourth-placed Dagenham & Redbridge both had the afternoon off after their respective games were frozen off, but sixth-placed Barrow AFC were unable to take advantage after losing 2-1 at bottom-markers York City. Apart from Woking, whose game was off, it was an excellent day for the bottom sides, with second-bottom North Ferriby United, fourth-bottom Guiseley AFC and the team now immediately above the drop zone, Maidstone United, all winning. Guiseley shocked Macclesfield Town at the Moss Rose, winning 2-1.
12
NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme
The Lions took the lead on the halfhour mark through a Michael Rankine penalty after James Wesolowksi had been brought down in the box. But the Silkmen levelled through Chris Holroyd just 2 minutes later. Rankine grabbed what proved to be Guiseley`s winner 3 minutes into the second half, also from the spot, after Will Hatfield had been felled in the box by Macc `keeper Scott Flinders. Maidstone United climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 victory over Torquay United at the Gallagher Stadium. The defeat sees Torquay back in trouble, level on points with Southport in eighteenth. Eastleigh extended their unbeaten league run to four games, but were pegged back for a 1-1 draw against Emirates FA Cup heroes Sutton United at Gander Green Lane. And now the U`s can concentrate on their massive home cup tie with Leeds United which is live on BT Sport. Scott Rendell’s sixth goal in six games earned Aldershot Town a hard-earned point at the International Stadium
against Gateshead. Jordan Burrow’s header gave the home side a 35th minute lead from a Wes York cross. The Shots equalised 6 minutes later when Jake Gallagher created an opportunity which Rendell took expertly. The visitors, though, dominated for long periods and could have won it in the end, although The Heed nearly snatched it late on when James Bolton`s header was cleared off the line by Tony Straker. The cross-border derby between Chester FC and Wrexham also ended honours` even. An exciting encounter saw the visitors take a 53rd minute breakthrough when former Chester man John Rooney netted from close range. James Alabi levelled from the penalty spot 5 minutes later after he had been brought down by James Jennings in the area. Boreham Wood and Solihull Moors shared a goalless draw at Meadow Park.

STANDS Two away games and two differing results, North Ferriby fan Sam Shepherd discusses the recent away days... Since our last home game Ferriby have had two away games which have produced very different results. The first of the two trips was to north Wales to face Wrexham. In truth, it was a pretty even game, but one moment of real quality from Football League journeyman Izale McLeod won it for the hosts. He hit a stunning first time shot into the top corner from the edge of the area to underline his previous
The ball came through a crowd of bodies and he dived to his right to get his fingertips to it. It really was one of the best saves I have ever seen. Ferriby dominated large parts of the second half but they lacked a clinical touch in front of goal, a frustratingly regular theme of Ferriby matches this season. Luckily the week after at Southport they put that right. The Villagers travelled to Southport
after just 6 minutes through Curtis Bateson. Despite losing Ryan Fallowfield to injury and Southport equalising earlier in the second half Ferriby seemed to have a different spirit and were determined not to lose. Connor Oliver then scored a classy goal as he found the bottom corner from 20 yards. Ferriby rode their luck at times with Taron Hare keeping the hosts at bay with a couple of excellent blocks, but then Steve Housham saw his side do what they haven’t done before this season, kill a game off. Ryan Kendall and Reece Thompson scored 2 goals in quick succession which killed the game off much to the delight of the travelling Ferriby Faithful.
professional level quality. Rory Watson had a magnificent game as he made save after save including an absolute worldie in the second half to keep Ferriby in the game.

knowing the game was going to be a “6 pointer” with Southport also struggling at the wrong end of the table. If this made them nervous they didn’t show it because they flew out of the blocks and took the lead
Today we face Macclesfield for the third time this season and after the previous 2 encounters it’s fair to say we owe them one! Hopefully the lads will be full of confidence after last week’s win and they can pick up another three points. Enjoy the game! Sam
