ISSUE 18 Welcome
Hello and welcome to another Kent Derby under the Princes Park lights as we welcome the players, officials and supporters of Faversham Town and hope that you had a safe trip up the M2/A2 corridor this evening! I’d like to also personally welcome the Lillywhites management team of Ray Turner and Clive Walker – two guys who I have known for a very long time and personally consider to be one of the most respected management teams in Kent non-league football – up there with the Gaffer and OB of course! Seriously welcome to Ray and Clive and to Clive’s wife – the Faversham secretary Wendy who is as an administrator is someone who I would be honoured to be compared with one day! Welcome all…
In tonight’s edition of THE MEAD, we’ve the action from our last home game with Carshalton; we speak to OB after what has been a frustrating week; we’ve all the latest club news in and our latest trip to the Chairman’s office… Our latest run of home games – its six in December alone – continues here on Saturday when we host CORINTHIAN CASUALS in match three of “Daft Demicember” – kick off will be at 3:00pm – see you then… Cheers. PAUL BOWDEN-BROWN THE CHAIRMAN
May I extend a warm and friendly welcome to the officials, players and supporters of Faversham Town FC to Princes Park the club’s new home for the next five years on this November Saturday afternoon and, after enjoyable game and some refreshments, they all have a safe short journey home. I would also like to once again thank all our supporters new and old that have taken the opportunity to support the club since our move from Thamesmead. As I walk around the ground I notice many of old supporters that I am sure have taken the advantage of the community family season ticket offered to all those that live in the proximity of the ground, and a number of new faces that have become regulars. So, I would assume that the majority of these “new” supporters are from our landlords Dartford, who join us when they are unable to join their team on matchday and hopefully they take advantage of our Mead Card initiative – it’s not a bad deal being able to gain entrance to our matches for £5 and over 65s for only £2-50. But although our gate is increasing slowly, we would always like to see more as I know the team like to play in front of a good size crowd.
So please, with us facing so many home games this month especially, tell all your friends that they can join you enjoying an afternoon or evening watching TTFC and be our 12th man and make Princes Park our fortress. Many of our supporters have recently questioned the demands that our league sometimes put on our players, as tonight is the first of six home matches that we have in December alone on top of games at Ashford, East Grinstead, Horsham before Shoreham on New Years Day. Six home games in a month is a lot normally, but at this time of year with all the other financial pressures on everyone, you have to ask if the schedule we have is fair! But I’m sure others will have their say on that matter elsewhere. Since our last game here, we’ve had two very disappointing away games. The first on the Tuesday night at Molesey was a very strange night indeed as I’m sure my fellow travellers will agree. Then on Saturday and our trip to
Ashford – I’m just glad that home was only three junctions away on the M20 – it was another very frustrating performance against a side who I believe we should have beaten – again missed chances cost us, as did injuries once again. It was great to see Lennie start on Saturday – the first of our apprentices to start for Tommy – and I’ll go more into that when we’re at home yet again on Saturday. Tonight, sees the official launch of our Christmas Prize draw – tickets cost £1.00 each and there will be some great prizes available for the draw that will take place at our last game of 2017 – when Molesey make the return trip to see us on December 30th. Let’s have a good game and see if we can climb the table, but it will certainly be another stern task this evening. Enjoy the game! Paul Bowden-Brown Director and Owner

ALEX O’BRIEN
THE MANAGEMENT Good evening everyone and to everyone connected with Faversham Town, welcome to Princes Park for another derby under lights! It goes without saying that the last week has been disappointing – two games that we would have hoped to (with resect to the sides we played) who we should have beaten and we’re still very much in shock! Yet like a wounded animal we’ve got to fight for our lives starting hopefully tonight against a Faversham side – another team who we know very well. They’ve a few players who Tom and I know very well and have indeed played for us and we know that they will work very hard which means that we know what we will have to do and hopefully get the points. To be honest they’re probably not happy to be where they are in the league at this time as I fancied them to be a lot higher than they are and they WWW.TTFCOFFICIAL.ORG
might well yet go on a run – but obviously not starting tonight! We’re facing a lot of games in the next few weeks without, unfortunately, a lot of players – we’ve only got a real squad of 13 or 14 at the minute given the suspensions and the injuries that we’ve got and so – yes, we are at the bare bones scenario! If you look back at things, it’s more or less been like that since the Hornchurch replay with different people getting injured and then suspended. We’ve drafted in some lads from our academy and, while it’s good for their development, it’s also unfair on them because they’re not ready!
to young Lennie in Saturday at Ashford – he held his own and did well, but had to come off at half-time as we completely changed the sides shape. It’s difficult at the minute as we haven’t got that surplus of players – honestly, we are trying – we’ve been talking to players even before tonight’s game – but their demands are just I’m sorry to say, ridiculous! But we’ll keep going and plugging away and with your backing particularly in these three home games in the next week, who know what we can achieve TOGETHER! Thanks as ever for your support and see you in the bar! Alex O’Brien First-Team Assistant Manager

Hello everyone and welcome to Princes Park, where we take on Faversham Town in the Bostik League South. I can safely say that I’ve never been so glad to be available for selection as I am tonight after my suspension ended at the weekend. I wasn’t at the game for either of my first two suspended matches as the bug got me. That said, with the form at the moment not at the best, we were hoping to quick start a new winning run down the M20 at Ashford, but were behind before we really started. third, fourth etc.! But it wasn’t to be an almost incredibly we went in behind… Out we came at the start of the second half and created more chances, but fair play to Ashford, they scored two absolute worldies to seal a really bad day… Tonight, we need to make right what wasn’t right at the weekend and start a ridiculously busy month in front of you – our own fans – and get the win for ourselves, the club and FOR YOU! INTRODUCING
faversham town Faversham Town are a unique football club! The Lilywhites have been one of the most consistent teams in the league’s Southern Division in the past half dozen season’s as they’ve reached the play-offs on three occasions and the final itself twice, which is one of the reasons that their arrival at Princes tonight in 20th place is perhaps the more surprising. But given the experience that their well respected management team of Ray Turner and Clive Walker bring to the table and that PAGE 14
“traditionally” they always improve after Christmas, keeping an eye on Faversham’s progress after the Festive period could well be worthwhile. Whatever the case, the Lilywhites make the trip to Dartford this evening looking for points to kick start their season meaning that potentially we’re facing another Kent Derby cracker! And the uniqueness of the club referred to earlier? It’s literally reflected in their badge as they are the only Senior Club in the country with the Three Lions as their emblem...

FAVERSHAM TOWN
Recent CLUB HISTORY The club was formed in 1884, and experienced many ups & downs during the early years, the storey below takes you from the 1970’s to one of its most successful periods which arguably has been the last 5/6 years. After a brief flirtation with the Athenian League in the mid seventies, the club returned to the Kent League, winning the Kent Senior Trophy in 1977. The following season they repeated this success and were also crowned Kent League champions, completing a famous “double”. The Lilywhites won the Kent League again in 1990, but league form dipped in the 92/93 season and was to stay that way for several seasons. The club managed to reach the final of the Kent League Challenge Cup in 2000, but things were in rapid decline. Matters reached crisis point in 2003, when the KCFA suspended the club for nonpayment of fines, with the club’s operators blaming just about everyone for the mess except themselves. Businessman Ray Leader fought a desperate battle to heal a widening rift with the previous regime over the ownership of the club and ground. Perhaps the turning point came when trustees and Independent Supporters Club committee members got together and declared an alliance to get the club back on its feet. An interim committee was formed, and the long road to recovery was started.
Kent County FA allowed the club to retain their coveted senior status subject to several conditions. Local authority grants were applied for and secured, sponsorship deals obtained, and the club embarked on a range of fund raising initiatives. The revived club played their first season back in 05/06, competing in the Kent County League and finishing as runnersup. Having passed ground inspections and fulfilled minimum criteria, promotion to the Kent League was confirmed and Faversham Town had at last “come home”. Season 2007/08 saw the arrival of Justin Luchford and Jimmy Strouts taking over the management with Town second bottom of the league. The team sunk to bottom before the pair gradually steered them up to mid table. Strouts soon left for personal reasons and Luchford, along with Clive Walker, took the Lilywhites to the Kent Senior Trophy final in season 2009/10, beating Greenwich 2-1 to lift the trophy. A week later, they were crowned Kent League Premier Division champions. Towards the end of his first season in the Ryman League, and with Town within touching distance of the play-offs, Luchford resigned. His place was taken by his assistant Ray Turner. Turner took charge of the last seven league games securing eighth spot - the highest position of any Kent team competing at that level. Having consolidated their position as a mid-table Ryman
South side during the first two years of Turner’s reign, Faversham embarked on one of the best seasons in the club’s history during the 2012/13 season. The Lilywhites lost just three away league games all campaign on their way to finish third and reach the Ryman South play-off final against all odds, but lost 3-0 to Maidstone United. Town spent the majority of the 2013/14 campaign just outside the play-offs, and ultimately had to settle for tenth position in their fourth season in the Ryman South. Off the pitch, Town continued to grow with another significant advance. Faversham had a productive 2014/15 season, scoring 111 league goals - more than any other Ryman League side that campaign - and amassing a record 97 points to finish in third place in the Ryman South for the second time in three seasons. But the club suffered more play-off heartache, as they lost 5-4 on penalties at home to Merstham in their Ryman South Play-off Semi-Final following a goalless draw away. Faversham came fifth at the end of the 2015-16 season, again reaching the play-offs, but after beating Dorking Wanderers 2-1 in the semi-final they lost 3-0 to Worthing in the final, leaving them knocking once more on the door of the Ryman Premier Division. The 2016/17 season was one of transition with a 10th-placed finish and success off it as they forged ahead with Phase One their ambitious rebuilding programme.
