ISSUE 19 Welcome
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to what incredibly considering we’ve got six home games this month, is our last Saturday home game before Christmas! Today we welcome a side with arguably the biggest tradition in our league and one who share links to one of the biggest club side in the world – Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. It has always seemed strange to me that a club in South West London could have such links to a club based thousands of miles away in Sao Paulo, but they do and if you ever get a chance to read into the club’s background, it’s well worthwhile for football fans everywhere…
Talking of reading, in today’s edition of THE MEAD, we’ve the action from Wednesday’s derby with Faversham; our player feature is with the “thirty-seven” club man; we’ve all the latest club news and our latest trips to the gaffers desk and the chairman’s office… Our latest run of home games – remember its six in month of December – continues here on Wednesday when we host our old friends from GUERNSEY with kick off at 7:45pm – see you then… finally it would be remiss of me not to welcome my namesake to our new home at Princes for the first time this afternoon – hope you enjoy the game Greenie… Cheers. Greenie

PAUL BOWDEN-BROWN THE CHAIRMAN
May I extend a warm and friendly welcome to the officials, players and supporters of Corinthian Casuals to Princes Park the club’s new home for the next five years on this November Saturday afternoon and, after enjoyable game and some refreshments, they all have a safe short journey home. I would also like to once again thank all our supporters new and old that have taken opportunity to support the club since our move from Thamesmead. As I walk around the ground I notice a number of old supporters that I am sure have taken the advantage of the community family season ticket offered to all those that live in the proximity of the ground, and a number of new faces that have become regulars. So I would assume that the majority of these supporters are from our landlords Dartford who join us when they are unable to join their team on match day and hopefully they take advantage of our Mead Card initiative. It’s not a bad deal being able to gain entrance to our matches

for £5 and over 65s for only £2-50, but although our gate is slowly increasing, we would always like to see more as I know the team like to play in front of a good size crowd, so please tell all your friends that they can join you enjoying an afternoon or evening watching TTFC be our 12th man and make Princes Park our fortress. With so many home games to play this month – I still cannot believe that the league are making us welcome five clubs to Princes Park as well as another four trips between December 1 and January 1 – why not bring a friend with you on Wednesday when we welcome out dear friends from Guernsey – it will be good to see them again after our cup adventure last season! At this time I am looking too recruiting two people to join our friendly club firstly for a

commercial person to join our small team at the club, it could be a full-time position or part time but will totally depend on the type of person applying for this position they would be reporting directly to myself. It is a type of job that the right person can develop on their own merits for the benefit of all parties, so if you interested or know someone that would like to apply please make contact directly with myself and I will send a full job description. Secondly I am looking for a person that could bring the club into the 21st century with regard to its website and social media streams, so if you are a person that feel you could give the club some of your time to ensure this section of the club is updated and monitored for the benefit of the club and its growing supporter base.

The last three games haven’t been the best and we’re all sharing the same frustration – let’s hope after today, we can start feeling a bit of the Christmas Spirit that is supposed to be around this time of year. The Christmas Draw tickets are out this afternoon and will cost just £1:00 a ticket with the draw taking place on our last game of 2017 – when we play Molesey on December 30th. If you’d like some tickets or
would like to help the club by selling some to your work colleagues, friends and family, they’ll available from today. Let’s have a good game and see if we can climb the table, but it will certainly be another stern task this afternoon – one that I am reminded will be repeated in ten days when we host Corinthian again – this time in the league cup. Enjoy the game! Paul Bowden-Brown Director and Owner

TOMMY WARRILOW THE manager
Good afternoon everyone and I’d like to welcome the players, supporters and officials from Corinthian Casuals who are here today. We’ve probably just endured the worst ten days this season we’ve had for results – its just confirmed what I knew, and what I hope we all know, no game is a given. When you’re supposedly playing the lesser sides when you’re looking to claim points you just don’t know what you’re going to come up against. We had a very, very tough game over at Molesey on a heavy pitch and came away with a draw which, to be honest, if Molesey play like that every week they’ll cause a few people problems at their place. And then we followed that with a trip to Ashford where a lot of changes have taken place and anyone who was there would hopefully agree that a good team on their day would have gone in eight or nine-two in front at halftime rather than two-one down. The second-half was much of a muchness, but we went back to the old bad habits of not taking our chances and our old habits of very poor defending and conceding goals.
PAGE 06
We took that into the Faversham game, which I felt was very flat in the first twenty-five minutes. We had the lion’s share of the game and got into some very good positions – there was a lot of driving with the ball, but the end product just wasn’t there! Again, we created chances on Wednesday – though not as many as in other games – enough to win a game of football although at the other end the three goals that we’ve let in are just schoolboy-ish defending errors. We’ve spoken about it – there’s no blame culture – I’m not blaming them, I’m blaming myself. All the coaching staff and all the players are all in this together and this is where you find out the men from the boys because football is not all about having thing go all your own way. I don’t want this to be a negative rant because it isn’t, as I think in all the games we’ve played we’ve been in a position in more than enough times to see teams off.
THAMESMEAD TOWN V CORINTHIAN CASUALS
But unfortunately, at the other end we haven’t been doing our jobs either! So, it really is a doubleedged sword that is what you mange for! It doesn’t always go swimmingly when all things go well and that’s what we’re well and truly in the middle of at the moment! You don’t run up and pick your toys up, throw them out of the pram and then run away – you address it professionally and properly – there’s nothing personal in football, but we’ve got to rectify the run we’re on so that we go into the New Year in the position that we want to be in – tucked in and around the play-off places – and that wont change! One thing that has gone with us in the last 10 days is other results which have meant that we haven’t lost too much touch with those around us. I’m frustrated that we’ve missed the chance already to close that gap, but the gap hasn’t widened. This league has shown all season
> THE MANAGER
that it doesn’t matter if you’re facing the side second from top or second from bottom, you have to be focused. A few wins put you in it and a few defeats drop you in it! December is a massive month – we’ll have our moans and we’ll have our groans, but that’s football, and that’s why we’ve got to look to get the three points today. I’d like to welcome Donovan Simmonds and Charlie Taylor to the club. We signed Donovan earlier in the season, but personal circumstances dictated things which I’m OK with as he’s been in constant contact with me and hopefully now we can get him back and fit and playing again. I’ve known Donovan for a long time and if we can get 70-80pct of a fit Donovan Simmonds then we’ll have a player on our hands. And the same can be said of Charlie Taylor – they’re both good lads and hopefully they’ll be able fit into the football club. We’re still on the look out to improve the squad, and currently have a couple of seven-day approaches in the wings. The good thing is that I’m still getting player recommendations which is something that we can look at. There’s a part of it that I don’t like as I still believe that we’ve got a very good side here, but there are times when you need to freshen things up during the season… We’ve just got to stay positive – we know what we can do – we’ve got to get back on track as actions speak louder than words. Hello everyone and welcome to Princes Park, where we take on Corinthian Casuals in the Bostik League South. Good afternoon everyone as we’re all back here for yet another home game! The team started well on Wednesday and we were definitely on top which was shown when we scored our first goal. However, this was to be a game of injuries and last minutes goals, but sadly not one for us! We were playing well until Faversham scored and that seemed to put us in panic mode for a while which I can’t Proudly sponsored by... explain.

being forced into sub’s because of injury. But then again, we were still very unsettled and letting the pressure get to us and effect the way that we’re playing – we’ve gone back to not concentrating for the full 90 minutes and its something that we all know must be addressed if we’re going to climb the table back towards the top of table and play-off places which is where the Casuals, of course, are meaning another tough game. THE Academy Hi and here’s hoping for a good result for Tom and the boys today.
ourselves two down in the first ten minutes – two long throws that we defended poorly.
I was unable to make the first-team match away at Ashford last Saturday, as I was away, and I have to admit that, despite the result, I was gutted to miss young academy player, Lennie Laker, make his debut.
Eventually, after settling down, the lads got into their stride and with a few good passes from Dante McIntosh and Artan Fanaj, we had a few good opportunities to equalise!
Obviously, the result was not a happy one, but I was proud to hear that Lennie put in a decent performance, while he was on the field. He has been an excellent student and a hard worker on the training ground. Well done Lennie!
The Phoenix players were still a threat and it was a good test physically for our lads especially as some feel they are ready for the step up.
As you’ll remember, following the desperately sad death of Kacem, our game against Maidstone was cancelled in his memory. On the playing side this meant that we had a break in the fixtures which halted our run of good form which was stopped from steam rolling on.
Sadly, after 90 minutes we found ourselves on the end of an eleven-nil defeat and it was a bitter pill to swallow after five of the goals came from our own poor mistakes. It was a reality check for our lads, and so it will be back to the basics in training and readiness for our home game this coming Wednesday against Millwall Lions. Your is sport.
We were back in action with this in mind when we travelled to Phoenix Sports on Wednesday and found WWW.TTFCOFFICIAL.ORG

CLUB HISTORY
thamesmead town Thamesmead F.C. was formed in 1969 as a community team for local youngsters. The club merged with Southlake FC in 1973, and by 1979 were fielding a Saturday team, playing on local park pitches. In 1980 the club entered the London Spartan League at the Intermediate Division Three level and dominated the divisions in the early 80s, but were couldn’t gain promotion to the Senior Division until they gained senior status. In 1985, the club changed its name to Thamesmead Town FC, and later that year they relocated to Bayliss Avenue, before finally gaining senior status during the summer of 1987 and were accepted into the London Spartan League Premier Division. The club moved to the Kent League in June 1990, where they remained until 2008, generally finishing amongst the top half dozen in the table. In 2002–03, the club missed the runner-up spot on goal difference, despite bizarrely having more points than Cray Wanderers, who won the League! Keith McMahon took the helm in the summer of 2006 and this would be the beginning of a new successful era for Thamesmead. In 2007–08, Thamesmead Town were champions of the Kent League, winning the title on the last day of the season. The title ensured promotion to the Isthmian League, where they were elected to play in Division One North in 2008–09. The summer of 2009 saw work begin to give Bayliss Avenue a massive transformation as work began on “Sportsman Club Thamesmead” The Project aimed to deliver first class facilities for the

local community as well as a stadium suitable for Conference South which was hoped to be completed for the start of the 2010/11 season. However, delays ensured and it was at this time around September 2012 that former Maidstone United Chairman Paul Bowden-Brown became involved in the club as a director, with the main aim of stabilizing the finances off the field and then during January 2015 became outright owner of the club as chairman. When Keith McMahon resigned in early 2015. Before in 2012-13, the Mead finished 3rd in this division and beat Maldon & Tiptree on penalties in the final to gain promotion to the Isthmian Premier Division for the first time in their history. The club’s stay in the Premier Division lasted just one season, and the club endured two turbulent seasons, after Keith McMahon resignation The Chairman appointed Terry Spillane as his replacement unfortunately his reign was terminated by the Chairman early 2016 although the team was in the play-off positions. In the summer of 2016 the Chairman appointed Tommy Warrilow as the first-team manager, and with a new man at the helm came fresh hopes for the season, as Warrilow alongside his number two former Leather and Dartford skipper Alex O’Brien looked to take the club back to the Bostik Premier League. Pre-season began with a completely new-look squad yet it proved to be a historic season in the FA Cup, when the club were the first to play a tie in the Channel Islands before reaching the Third Qualifying Round for the first time in the club’s history.
In March 2017, the Chairman announced that the Club due to unacceptable rising costs at Baylis Avenue the Chairman had reached agreement with the Directors of Dartford FC to enter into a five- year Ground share Agreement that would allow the Club to play their home games at Princes Park Stadium. Dduring the 17-18 close season this Groundshare was formally sanctioned by the new Bostik league directors, as well as confirming that for the first time, the Mead would be competing in the South Division for the 17-18 season. In August 2017, the club enjoyed a record 8-0 win in the FA Cup (away to East Preston) which was not only the Clubs biggest ever win in the competition but was also the first time, we have won a competitive game by eight clear goals!

INTRODUCING
Corinthian casuals Last years beaten playoff finalists are at it again. After being heavily involved in the run in last season where they narrowly missed out on outright promotion, before reaching the play-off final only to lose a penalty shoot-out to Dorking Wanderers, Corinthian Casuals are once again in the thick of the action at the top of Bostik South. This season Casuals, in boss James Bracken’s third PAGE 16
season, are currently five points off the pace being set by South Division League leaders Lewes, but sit second ahead of Carshalton Athletic on goal difference. That said, Casuals arrive at Princes Park on the back of a winless run of three games which in itself comes off the back off a run of six successive victories which once again this season highlights what a ridiculously tight division we are all enjoying...

CORINTHIAN CASUALS
Recent CLUB HISTORY The Corinthian-Casuals Football Club was formed in 1939 following the merger of the two great amateur sides bearing those names. The Corinthian-Casuals Football Club had played only one game when World War II broke out, though it really wasn’t our fault. Come the recommencement of football in 1945, the club proudly retook its place in the Isthmian League, were it would remain for another 39 years. The 1973/74 season was an historic milestone; heralding the end of the amateur. As if in empathy, Corinthian-Casuals were relegated, for the first time in their history, into Isthmian League Division 2. There they would stay there until 1978, when further relegation to the basement followed a third bottom finish in four years. A number of steady seasons were played out before new ground-sharing rules created by the Isthmian League saw the club unceremoniously thrown out in 1983/84. This coming after 65 years of continuous membership, and in spite of a 5th place finish, simply because the club’s long nomadic history meant it shared a ground, thus did not have one of its own. The first season in the Spartan Premier League was a disaster and a second consecutive relegation occurred. Next year, the Corinthian-
Casuals fortunes took an upturn when they bounced back as Champions, remaining in the Premier Division for a further 12 seasons. 1988 was a truly historic year, with the club securing its first ever home ground, merging with the crippled Tolworth FC, thus taking over the running of their facilities. This season also saw the Corinthian-Casuals Tour of Brazil, when legendary Brazilian international, Socrates, donned the famous chocolate and pink colours for a special game. A runners-up berth in 1993 and winning the League Cup in 1995 were the highlights of the Spartan League era, before the club switched to the Combined Counties League in 1996. This was a greatly improved experience. In the first season, a runners-up spot was achieved to at last win back our place in the Isthmian League. The team’s best finish for many years, 5th in 2000/01, saw them miss promotion by a meagre 3 points. In May, the club toured Brazil again, winning the Sao Paulo Athletic Invitation Cup. Victories were achieved over Paulistano and Sao Paulo AC, though SC Corinthians Paulista’s U21’s inflicted a 2-0 defeat. The 2010/11 season was memorable as the club lifted the Surrey Senior Cup for the first time in 57 years when Leatherhead were defeated 2-0 in the final at Gander Green Lane. This triumph was a fitting
tribute to Brian Adamson who stood down as manager at the end of the season. In January 2015, CorinthianCasuals embarked on an historic tour to Brazil to play the twotime FIFA World Club Champions SC Corinthians Paulista. The match played out in front of 30,000 fans in attendance and screened live on two national TV stations. Although the final score was 3-0 to the hosts, Casuals held the professionals to 0-0 for 78 minutes. Corinth won the hearts of many millions of fans in the week spent in Sao Paulo. In 2015, Former Sutton United Reserve and Youth Manager James Bracken took charge and propelled the club to their best ever finishes in consecutive seasons. A 3-point deduction by the FA took Casuals out of the playoff placings however, in his second season, Bracken led Corinth to the playoff final against Dorking Wanderers, drawing 0-0 and missing out through a penalty shoot-out. With James Bracken now in charge for a third season, we look forward with quiet optimism to another year as the eternal underdogs, punching above their weight. The Corinthian-Casuals Football Club continues to take great pride in its rich and glorious history, and still so very much more in its present day standing as the highest ranked amateur club in England.

FEATURE INTERVIEW:
RICHARD PACQUETTE This afternoon, the latest in our series of features talking to the Mead players that today we talk to the striker who if reports are to be believed is has had “more clubs than Tiger Woods” and is now playing for his thirty-seventh club… To find out the truth, GREENIE has been talking to RICHARD PACQUETTE…

> PLAYER INTERVIEW
We had to start with the question – is it true? Pacq laughed and admitted, “I did not realise it was that much before I came – I’m not sure how many, I don’t count lol!” Richard carried on, “There are a few loans in there especially in my younger days, but in nonLeague things always change and circumstances. So, you find yourself moving every season, but I tell myself at least I’m still wanted lol. “But it does mean that I’ve played under a lot of managers. I’ve experienced Martin Allen which was intimidating,” Pacq confessed. “I heard stories about him before he signed me on a week to week at Brentford. We played Hull City away and we was in the hotel the night before and we were all in the pool having a stretch. He called me over and started telling me what he thought about me before he met me his presence and manorisms was a bit scary.” “Another manager I have to mention is David Holdsworth. One evening my phone rang it was the gaffer. “Pacqs?” “What’s happening gaffer?” “I’m in the pub; come and meet me.” I was with a few of the boys and we thought it was test but in the end, we were in the pub having a few pints of Guinness! That was after my first week of signing for Lincoln City that settled me right in.” So, what of our Gaffer we wondered? Richard told us, “When a manager rings you
WWW.TTFCOFFICIAL.ORG
and asks if you want to join their team, it’s nice to know your wanted and they like what you can bring to the table. “I’ve played against Tommy’s Tonbridge teams quite a few times in the past and I know he is ambitious and I’m the same. Our squad is a good squad mixed with experience and youth and it was a challenge I fancied and plus I had Lew Carey giving me that extra push to come lol. Princes Park is a lovely stadium with good facilities I always look forward to a home game. “Tommy told me over the phone what he wanted to achieve. Lew told me I would enjoy it and I was different to what they had and also, I checked the squad and seen some good experienced players I have played against in the past. Tommy and OB are good pretty relaxed they tell you what they expect and that’s how it should be. “The league’s standard has not surprised me either as anyone can beat anyone. It’s just getting that consistency as we’ve played Lewes and Carshalton who are up there, and they are both games we should of won easily.” All sides look to find a strike partnership, and since his arrival his main partner has been another new signing – Danny Parish, who is only nearly half Pacq’s age. We wondered how the two got along? “Dan is good to play with as he is a
little livewire with a good eye for goal. “He still has a lot to learn if he keeps listening to me and Vinesy he can only get better we will use our experience and help him during games and on the training field, and hopefully we can all benefit. Going forward into 2018 I would like to see us finish in the play-offs and win it!” Finally, we asked Pacq his “Footballing First’s”, First football kit bought (either for you or by you? My first kit was an Arsenal shirt. First album or CD bought? When it comes to music in my younger days it was a record by Vanilla Ice. First football match attended? My first football match I attended was to watch my dad he played for a few clubs, but I remember watching him at Northwood. First car owned? My first car I owned was an R registration Vauxhall Tigra. First foreign holiday? My first holiday was to see my family in Dominica. And now the draw for Russia 2018 has been made, we also asked how far England can go? He replied, “I think England will get to the quarter finals in the World Cup!”

CRAIG’S CORNER <
CRAIG GIBSON THE coach
Welcome to Princes Park our new home - Jamie and Greenie have finally let me write some words for the programme, so here goes! Good afternoon and welcome to today’s game when we look forward to entertaining the “famous” Corinthian Casuals. It has been a very disappointing couple of weeks with valuable points dropped first at home to Carshalton Athletic and then on the road at Molesey and Ashford United. I do not have a lot to say about those games as to be honest whilst there were mitigating circumstances in all three matches, in my opinion we just have to be better than that, mentally stronger. We all have opinions and that is mine so there! You can rest assured the gaffer, OB and myself will do everything in our control to Improve on these results. At the time of writing I do not know the outcome of our home match versus Faversham Town on Wednesday evening, but I am hoping we have stopped the rot and gained three points, fingers
PAGE 28
crossed. Are you ready for Christmas? I have to say that, once again, I have disappointed myself, for some strange reason I have not got any presents sorted. I have not put the tree up or any lights and here we are just about two weeks away from the big day. How does this happen, I have known since the 25th of December 2016 that the next Christmas would be on Monday 25th December 2017, and in fact if I am correct it is the same date EVERY year. So how do I get it so wrong & struggle & moan that nothing is ready and it is nearly Christmas? I really do not understand it, and once again the “MAD” panic will set in. I will get it right next year, promise LOL. I know we at Thamesmead are not the best supported club in the land however, we do have a small, very small, band of supporters
THAMESMEAD TOWN V CORINTHIAN CASUALS
and I do not mean friends, parents of players I mean actual supporters. I don’t know each of them personally, however I do know a couple by name and would like to take this opportunity to thank one of them here in the programme personally.
Mr Roy Ripper he is a season ticket holder and has followed us from Bayliss Avenue. Roy is a loyal “Meadie” cheering the lads on through thick & thin no matter the weather, so a BIG cheer of thanks to Roy who typifies what non-league football is all about.
> CRAIG’S CORNER
Say hello to Roy if you see him around the ground or in the bar after the game he deserves our thanks. So back to today, Corinthian Casuals, last season the Casuals enjoyed a hugely successful season being rather unlucky to lose their play-off and miss out on promotion to the Premier division. This season they have again started well and are now amongst the favourites to gain promotion and Indeed fight for the title. We will have our work cut out if we are to win the three points today against this famous old club. AN INTERESTING THOUGHT: Casuals now play their football at Tolworth in Surrey however since their formation back in 1882 they were nomadic for around 106 years until they settled at Tolworth in 1988. I wonder if the “Mead” will be the same and somewhere towards the year 2123 there will be an article in a football programme somewhere mentioning how Thamesmead Town were homeless until they won the FA Cup, mmmm! You never know LOL Enjoy the game! Craig Gibson First-team Coach
